La primavera es un momento ideal para estar en España, especialmente cuando las playas, bares, chiringuitos y restaurantes comienzan a salir de su hibernación preparados para la estación turística. La emoción aumenta este mes con las personalidades del mundo del cine que acuden a Málaga para su festival anual, un evento lleno de brillo y glamur. El mundo de la moda también está en un punto emocionante, ya que empezamos a despejar nuestro armario de ropa de invierno y prepararnos para los brillantes colores de la nueva estación. elcome to the March issue of OCIO Magazine. I think we can safely say that the winter season is behind us and we can all look forward to the warmer months ahead. Spring is always a great time to be in Spain, especially as the beaches, beach bars, Chiringuitos and restaurants all begin to come out of hibernation ready for the tourist season. This month excitement is mounting as the beautiful people of the movie world arrive in Malaga for the annual film festival, an event full of glitz and glamour. The fashion world is also at an exciting stage as we begin to clear out our winter wardobe in preparation for the brighter seasonal colours to arrive. Cleaning: A pressure washer is the best way to clean your terrace or patio. Begin on a low setting, and leave plenty of space between yourself and the part of the floor that you’re targeting. At full power and close range, this tool will do more damage than good. Ronda with Loymer Travel

Escapada a Ronda con Loymer Travel by OCIO magazine

s a part of our New Year’s resolution to see as much of Spain this year as we possibly can, we booked ourselves onto a trip to visit the fabulous city of Ronda. We made our booking with Loymer travel in Torre del Mar. Loymer offer day trips and longer excursions to many places (and not only in Spain). This particular trip was just a day trip by coach at a cost of just18.00 Euros per person. We met the luxury coach at 8:15am at the bus station in Torre del Mar and began the two and a half hour journey to Ronda. Our multilingual Loymer host for the day, Aranxta, was very informative, very helpful and also very entertaining. The scenery of the Spanish countryside as we made our way inland was reason enough to make the trip quite frankly. Living most of our lives on the coast we don’t get to see too much of the inland Andalucia, but it is quite stunning indeed. On arriving at Ronda we disembarked at the central bus station and armed with some helpful tips and advice from Aranxta, we were free to roam the beautiful streets of Ronda, filling the day at our own pace and with our own agenda. As advised by Aranxta, we made our way to the tourist information office and picked up a local map which would help direct us to the ‘must see’ ancient bridge and aquaduct and ultimately into the pretty old town. The city of Ronda is spectacular with so much history. A history that it is prepared to share with you in the many museums which 16 OCIO magazine

mostly have free entrance. As a general rule, I personally am not really one to spend hours upon hours in museums but, I have to say, the excellent presentation and fascinating history made these museums interesting even for me. Bearing in mind the town centre was very busy with tourists, we were very keen to have lunch away from the tourist scene, preferring to eat where the locals eat. We found ourselves in a pretty little tapas bar and restaurant where we enjoyed some local tapas dishes washed down with a glass or two of local wine, very nice indeed. After lunch we decided to start making our way back towards the bus station, stopping en-route for coffee. Feeling comfortable about our destination and armed with the local map, we went off piste a little on the way home and stumbled across a part of town that was clearly used by the locals and not the tourists. It was simply bustling with energy and life with everyone enjoying

the warm afternoon sunshine. Now there is nothing wrong with spending the day as a tourist, after all, we were tourists and, a trip to Ronda without seeing the tourist attractions would be very much a wasted opportunity but, on our next trip to Ronda, we will certainly try and spend some more time away from the tourist routes and enjoy life here the way the locals do. We arrived at the bus station uncharacteristically early and 15 minutes ahead of the agreed time of 5.30pm. Fortunately there is a pleasant little cafe and bar just opposite the bus station which was perfect for a last little taste of local hospitality in the form of two small beers as we waited for our luxury coach to arrive. Our trip to Ronda was everything we had hoped it would be. Just to be away for a day living life as a tourist is fun and exciting. We are already browsing the Loymer website to find our next day trip to another fabulous Spanish City. n

omo parte de nuestra resolución de Año Nuevo para ver tanto de España como podamos durante este año, nos reservamos un viaje para visitar la fabulosa ciudad de Ronda. Hicimos nuestra reserva con Loymer Travel en Torre del Mar. Loymer ofrece viajes de un día y excursiones más largas a numerosos lugares (y no solo en España). Este viaje en concreto era de un solo día en autobús por tan solo 18 Euros por persona. Nos encontramos con el lujoso autocar a las 8.15am en la estación de autobuses de Torre del Mar y comenzamos el trayecto de dos horas y media hacia Ronda. Nuestra anfitriona de Loymer durante el día, Arantxa, hablaba varios idiomas y fue de gran ayuda, muy informativa y muy divertida. El paisaje del campo español conforme nos adentrábamos hacia el interior ya fue razón suficiente para hacer el viaje. Viviendo la mayor parte de nuestras

vidas en la costa, no hemos llegado a ver demasiado de la Axarquía de interior, que sin duda es bastante impresionante. Al llegar a Ronda bajamos del autocar en la estación central y, tras unos útiles consejos de nuestra anfitriona Arantxa, fuimos libres para recorrer las hermosas calles de Ronda, llenando el día a nuestro propio ritmo y con nuestra agenda propia. Siguiendo las recomendaciones de Arantxa, nos dirigimos a la oficina de información turística para hacernos con un mapa local que nos ayudara a llegar a los lugares imprescindibles, el antiguo puente y acueducto, y finalmente al precioso casco antiguo. La ciudad de Ronda es espectacular y con muchísima historia. Una historia que está preparada para compartir contigo en sus numerosos museos con entrada gratuita. Normalmente no suelo ser de los que pasan horas y horas dentro de museos pero, he de decirlo, la excelente

presentación y su fascinante historia hicieron estos museos interesantes incluso para mí. Teniendo en cuenta que la ciudad estaba llena de turistas, nos apeteció almorzar lejos de las zonas más bulliciosas y preferimos comer en un establecimiento de locales. Llegamos a un bonito bar de tapas y restaurante donde disfrutamos de algunos platos locales acompañados de un vaso o dos de vino de la zona, muy bueno. Después de comer decidimos empezar a volver hacia la estación, haciendo una parada para el café. Teníamos bien ubicado nuestro destino y contábamos con el mapa local, así que fuimos a explorar un poco y nos topamos con una zona de la ciudad llena principalmente por gente local y sin turistas. Esta zona rebosaba de actividad y vida, llena de gente disfrutando el cálido sol de la tarde. Es cierto que no hay nada de malo en pasar el día como turistas, después de todo es lo que somos, y un viaje a Ronda sin ver los principales puntos turísticos sería una oportunidad desperdiciada, pero en nuestro próximo viaje a Ronda sin duda pasaremos algo más de tiempo alejados de las rutas turísticas para disfrutar el estilo de vida de la gente del pueblo. Llegamos a la estación de autobuses inusitadamente temprano, 15 minutos antes de la hora acordada de las 5.30pm. Por suerte hay un agradable y pequeño café bar justo en frente de la estación que fue perfecto para disfrutar por última vez de la hospitalidad local y tomar un par de cañas de cerveza mientras esperábamos a que nuestro lujoso autocar llegara. Nuestro viaje a Ronda fue tal y como lo habíamos esperado. Simplemente pasar un día fuera viviendo como turistas ya resulta divertido y emocionante de por sí. Ya estamos echando un vistazo a la página de Loymer para elegir nuestra próxima escapada a otra fabulosa ciudad española. n

o crees que el color es la cosa mas maravillosa que existe? ¿No luce un lugar más bonito cuando le pones un poco de color? El color también realmente puede influenciar tus estados de ánimo. Y como tal, puedes usarlo como una herramienta para influenciarlos. Cada mañana, tenemos la tendencia de escoger nuestra ropa dependiendo del ánimo en el cual nos sintamos. Si me siento particularmente

So let’s have a look at what effect certain colours have on you, so you can pick the right colour for the kind of mood you want to be in. Black: Black is the colour of authority and power, stability and strength. It is also the colour associated with intelligence. Black is a serious colour that evokes strong emotions. Wear it to feel powerful or mysterious White: For most of the world this is the colour associated with purity, cleanliness and neutrality. White is associated with creativity. Wear it for more mental clarity. Red: Red is the colour of energy. People surrounded by red find their heart beating a little faster. Wear red when you want to have lots of energy and confidence. Pink: Pink is the most calming of all colours. Think of pink as the colour of romance, love, and gentle feelings, to be in the pink is to be soothed. Wear pink to feel more loving. Blue: Blue is a calm and restful colour. Seeing the colour blue actually causes the body to produce chemicals that are calming. Over the ages blue has become associated with steadfastness, dependability, wisdom and loyalty. Blue is good to wear when you want to be more intuitive. Green: The colour of growth, nature, and money. A calming colour also that’s very pleasing to the senses. It is also the colour associated with good luck, generosity and fertility. ’m not one to want to throw you into a state of panic but I am sure you are all fully aware that it is just a few months until summer is in full force. The Mercury will rise and the chilly breezes will disappear and you will need to dust off your bikini and swim shorts and bare your soul to the outside world. If you’re like so many of us that seem to accumulate a few extra kilos in the winter months, it’s time to think about returning to your summertime shape, yes, I am talking to you guys as well! Tip No 1: Get Moving, by any means necessary. For your health and for the sake of your body it’s important to leap into spring with enthusiasm. If you’re not into the gym, there are loads of interesting and motivating ways to keep in shape whilst enjoying the fabulous scenery. Why not sign up for an outdoor fitness club or grab a friend and arrange a beach run or simply dust off the bicycle and go for a long ride along the 36 OCIO magazine

beachfront or even inland and try a little cycle off road if you are up to the challenge. The point is to excercise, any excercise. You can start by not taking the lift in your apartment complex and walk the stairs everyday instead. Movement is excercise and excercise means a great looking body for the beach. Tip No 2: Cut back on salt If you have a particular body baring event soon, cut back on the salt. Sodium encourages the body to retain water, thus making the body bloat. You’ll be amazed by how much less puffy you look and feel after a couple of days without salt - try it. Tip No 3: H20 Perhaps the most important health decision you can make on the way into summer is to drink your six to eight glasses of water a day. It will flush out toxins and help eradicate the evil sodium we’ve just mentioned. It will keep you hydrated as the temperature rises and, what is more,

water will soften any lines on your face by keeping the skin moist from the inside. So lots of water every day. Tip No 4: Get a spray tan OK, it’s not a health tip, but it will make you look and feel more healthy. A spray tan will disguise any cellulite or sagging skin and make you look easily five kilos lighter, it’s a must have for any beach affair - and much easier than working on a real tan if you don’t have the time to dedicate to it. n

Es muy importante recibir la primavera con entusiasmo para tu salud y tu cuerpo. Si no te gusta ir al gimnasio, hay un millón de maneras interesantes y motivadoras de mantener la figura, a la vez que puedes disfrutar del maravilloso paisaje. ¿Por qué no apuntarte a un gimnasio al aire libre? ¿Por qué no invitar

a algunos amigos y organizar una carrera por la playa? O desempolvar la bicicleta y dar un largo paseo por la orilla de la playa. Incluso si te apetece un desafío, puedes intentar recorrer un trayecto corto en bicicleta. El objetivo es hacer ejercicio, de cualquier forma. Puedes empezar subiendo las escaleras, en lugar de coger el ascensor del bloque de tu piso. El movimiento es ejercicio y el ejercicio se traduce en un cuerpo que lucirá bonito en la playa. Lo mejor de todo es que el agua suavizará cualquier línea de expresión del rostro, manteniendo la piel hidratada desde el interior. Así que ya sabéis, ¡hay que beber mucha agua todos los días!. Consejo No 4: Compra bronceador. No es un truco de salud, pero te hará sentir y parecer más saludable. Un bronceador disimulará cualquier signo de celulitis o flacidez de la piel, y además, te verás fácilmente con 5 kilos menos. El bronceador es una necesidad para cualquier actividad que se realice en la playa - y mucho más fácil, que trabajar en un bronceado real, sobre todo, si no tienes tiempo para dedicarte a ello. n OCIO magazine

t has been said that the Fiat 500X may not be the best car in its class in any one department, yet it’s sold over 1.5 million units worldwide since its launch. Why? Because it looks cool, that is why. Research shows that for 60 per cent of buyers in the compact crossover class, styling is their primary motivation, and in that respect the 500X is a winner all the way. It has gone through some changes though since its launch and a comprehensive range update in 2018 saw Fiat drop the 500X diesel models completely and there’s no longer a 4x4 version. Instead the company have given the model more 54 OCIO magazine

focus by offering all the models in the range as front-wheel drive only. The range was shaken up so that the two different looks you could get for the 500X, City Look and Off Road Look, were renamed Urban Look and Cross Look. The line-up is completed by the sporty S-Design. As you might expect, there are subtle differences in the way Urban and Cross models look, with the latter getting chunkier bumpers, roof rails and extra body cladding to emphasise its off-road appeal. The 500’s retro cues, such as the double circular headlights, ‘moustache’ grille and curved panels have been up-scaled into something altogether more macho. Urban

Look versions get smoother, sportier looking front and rear bumpers, while the Cross Look models have a more rugged appearance thanks to chunkier bumpers, visible underbody protection and roof rails. The S in S-Design stands for sporty, so you get some racier touches and detailing to emphasise the sporty looks. The 500X is a much bigger car than many crossover rivals including the Mini Countryman, Renault Captur and Nissan Juke, which gives it a certain amount of extra presence on the road. Depending on spec, you can have steering wheel controls, Bluetooth hands-free and music streaming, plus Fiat’s Uconnect system as part of the infotainment package. On the road, the handling is sharp and there’s loads of grip, even if four-wheel drive is no longer offered. The cabin is whisper quiet, too, making the car not only a great runaround but well suited to long trips. n

Follow these rules, and after four weeks of sweat, discipline and calloused hands, you’ll have burnt off your man boobs to be left with a summer body that proves you know precisely which way the beach is. Cut to 1,000 calories a day and that summer body you’re after thinks you’re starving, so stores food rather than burning it as fuel. Which means that beer belly is going nowhere. Instead, aim for around 2,000 calories a day, with every meal based around fresh lean protein.

Think chicken breast or salmon fillets and vegetables. Basic rule is, if it goes in the microwave, it doesn’t go in you. You should have 40 per cent of your energy from protein, 30 per cent from carbs and 30 per cent from fats. You’ll still be at a fat-burning calorie deficit, but there’ll be enough going in to keep your engines stoked. What your summer body does with what you put into it is dictated by hormones. Insulin, which spikes when you eat carbs, is particularly bad, turning food into fat, especially if you have a particularly sugary diet. The more joints you can move, the more muscle fibres you recruit and the more energy you burn. That means moves like deadlifts, rows and pull-ups, which exponentially increase your calorie count by hitting your body’s biggest muscle groups. And yes, by all means, pump your guns too just for fun. Now, the summer body workout regime should be split between heavy metal and high intensity. You are going to need some professional guidance to help you set up your workouts but, do insist on a programme that lets you perform a weights workout twice a week, with at u

Costa Women Axarquía Lebanese evening at Tabulé in Torre del Mar The ‘Costa Women Axarquia’ enjoyed a lovely Lebanese evening for their February event. Restaurante Tabulé in Torre del Mar was the perfect location. This authentic Lebanese restaurant is full of Eastern charm and the food served here is all homemade with imagination and is so tasty. The ladies were met with cava on arrival, as has become the norm, as they turned up in anticipation of the feast that was about to unfold. Host Anwah thoroughly looked after the ladies throughout the evening. A lovely selection of food & drink was shared & enjoyed between the ladies and the atmosphere was full of fun and laughter.
