elcome to the September edition of OCIO magazine. As the visitors start to return to their real world, life on the coast begins to calm down once again, but still, the summer vibe continues as we enjoy the fabulous September temperatures. This is a great time to enjoy all that this wonderful part of Spain has to offer, and we don’t have to search for 30 minutes to find a parking space either! So kick back and relax on a less crowded beach or perhaps over a sunset Gin & Tonic. We all know that autumn is on the horizon, bringing with it the chilly winds and cold nights but it isn’t with us just yet, so don’t pack away those flip flops too soon.

Así que relájese en una playa menos concurrida o quizás tome un Gin & Tonic al atardecer. ne of the key elements of garden design is outdoor illumination. Luckily, there’s a whole range of outdoor lighting to choose from, for every part of the garden. Atmospheric, cosy and essential outdoor lighting helps you to make the most of the space, but knowing where and what to illuminate can be confusing. So here are my go to tips to help you get started. Portable lanterns are a perfect outdoor lighting option. the table itself. They also protect candles from the elements. There are an incredible variety to choose from, just make sure to look for lanterns suitable for outdoor use. String lights are a fabulous addition to any garden and are loved for their laidback feel. Particularly dramatic and inviting when zigzagged over a seating or dining area, they create a canopy of lights suitable for any occasion. Delicate lighting options like string lights and lanterns are essential for creating a cosy atmosphere but will usually need to be supplemented by brighter lighting, especially in high use areas. You’ll want

your guests to be able to actually see their food after all. Outdoor wall lights are robust and completely watertight making them excellent options for year round outdoor lighting. Evenly space these on the outside walls of your home as the foundation of your garden lighting, then you can layer more decorative lighting in key areas. n such a special year as 2021, the FRIGILIANA ART ROUTE reaches its fifth edition with more enthusiasm and creativity, if that was possible. We will have more than 50 artists of 15 different nationalities, showing their works in 29 locations throughout the town. You can find them marked in the brochure that will guide you through this charming artistic tour in one of “The most beautiful villages in Spain”, between white houses and beautiful winding streets. It will be three days full of art and activities in a safe environment. You will have the opportunity to meet each artist personally and chat with them and discover the secrets of their creative process. You can visit the studios of many of these artists and you will even find some of them working in the moment at their location. There will be as many disciplines, techniques and styles as authors: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, encaustic, textile, paperart, art povera, calligraphy, collage ... Among the novelties of this year we want to highlight the possibility to participate in the following workshops and activities: Plein Air painting workshop (Spanish & English) with the artist Alejandro Carpintero from Madrid. Paperart workshop (Spanish & English) with the artists Mar Mel. The projection of the video installation SEPTEMBER FLORA by the artist Alberto Tarsicio. Go back to the cinema with the documentary film “COLORES AL OPIO, LA PROSTITUTA Y EL PINTOR” by the painter Alejandro Carpintero and premiered at the MEAN Museum in Barcelona in April of this year. One more year, we want you to enjoy the walk and art in an environment full of charm, beauty and creativity, with all the preventive health measures in force at the time. And to make your journey easier, we will put at your disposal the information brochures with a map where you will find the 29 locations and an example of the work of each artist. Volver al cine con la película documental “COLORES AL OPIO, LA PROSTITUTA Y EL PINTOR” realizada por el pintor Alejandro Carpintero y estrenada en el Museo MEAN de Barcelona en abril de este mismo año. Un año más, queremos que disfrutes del paseo y del arte en un ambiente lleno de encanto, belleza y creatividad, con todas las medidas sanitarias de prevención vigentes en el momento. eart disease, also called cardiovascular disease, mainly affects older people and means there are problems with the heart and blood vessels. This disease includes a variety of problems including high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, chest pain, heart attacks, and strokes. The heart is the centre of the cardiovascular system. Through the body’s blood vessels, the heart pumps blood to all of the body’s cells. Cardiovascular disease is a group of problems that occur when the heart and blood vessels aren’t working the way they should. Heart disease isn’t contagious, you can’t catch it like you can the flu or a cold. Instead, certain things increase a person’s chances of getting cardiovascular disease. Doctors call these things risk factors. Some of these risk factors a person can’t do anything about, like being older and having other people in the family who have had the same problems. But people do have control over some risk factors; smoking, having high blood pressure, being overweight, and not exercising can increase the risk of getting cardiovascular disease. Many people do not realise they have cardiovascular disease until they have chest pain, a heart attack, or stroke. These kinds of problems often need immediate attention and the person may need to go to the emergency department of a hospital. If it’s not an emergency and a doctor suspects the person could have cardiovascular disease, the doctor can do some tests to find out more about how the heart and blood vessels are working. Bentley Bentayga Hybrid By Paul Woodley

he second-generation Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is one of motoring’s more curious anomalies. It’s still a Marmite car visually (you either love it or you hate it), despite a reasonably successful mid-life redesign. But ultimately, it’s also still a 2.7 tonne luxury SUV that is not going to help save the planet, plug-in hybrid system or not. When the Bentayga first appeared at the end of 2015, the world was a very different place, and 2.7 tonne, petrol-powered SUVs seemed far less out of sync with it than they do right now. So in the middle of 2019, Bentley reacted and gave us the Bentayga Hybrid. And now it 32 OCIO magazine

has reacted again and given us a secondgeneration model that uses the same powertrain as the original, but which has been redesigned inside and out, just like the rest of the Bentayga range. It costs £155,000, which is £22,000 more than the first-gen model. But for that you get a new-look interior and exterior, along with a hybrid system that is capable of 81mpg which emits just 79g/km in EV mode. The styling upgrades include a larger and more upright grille, subtle tweaks along the flanks, an entirely new rear end and a pair of huge new LED Matrix headlights that have been designed to look like cut-crystal

glassware. Vast 22-inch wheels are available and a range of new paint options have been added to the already expansive options list. Even with the upgrades and design changes though, it still looks instantly like a Bentayga, and if anything, it appears even bigger and even more imposing in the flesh. Inside, the cabin is even more luxurious than before and is even better equipped, with a 10.9 inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system, a new steering wheel and even higher quality materials on the seats, console and dash. The new TFT instrument display replaces u

As with the original Hybrid, you can also choose between four different driving modes for the suspension, steering, throttle map and so on. The rear seat and boot space have also been improved in all directions, although the Hybrid remains either a four or five seater. The main point of focus for the Hybrid model – its hybrid system – remains unchanged, however, and that is somewhat disappointing, given that it wasn’t exactly world beating in the first place. The range on a single 75 litre tank of fuel and with the battery fully charged is 431 miles; the 34 OCIO magazine

car is capable of 25 miles in full EV mode, during which it can also do 84mph before the petrol engine automatically fires up. There are three modes; EV, Hybrid and Hold. In EV you use only the battery; in Hybrid the car works out which is the most efficient combination of propulsion, taking into account your driving style and how hard you press the two pedals; and in Hold it works out how to keep as much charge as possible in the battery so that, in town, you can switch to EV mode and still have plenty of charge left. A full recharge takes 2.5 hours from a wallbox or around seven hours from a regular three-pin socket. There is no fast charge capability and you can’t drive your Bentayga Hybrid in a way that regenerates power into the battery on

the move, either, because it’s too heavy to achieve this and would burn too much fossil fuel in the process to make sense. To be perfectly honest, as plug-in hybrids go, it’s not one of the more cutting edge examples. But it is still a Bentley and when wafting along in near silence in full EV mode you can fully appreciate the serenity of its ride, the accuracy of its steering, the feel and power of its brakes, the pure quality of its new cabin and the space it unquestionably contains. In other words, all the elements that distinguish the Bentayga as a world class luxury SUV which define it as a true Bentley. Just one question remains and that is, is it really worth the £155,000 price tag? Well, there’s only one way to find out. n

ver the past 12 months, our small band of travelling golf enthusiasts have visited some of the most wonderful golf clubs all along the coast from Torre del Mar to Gibraltar, playing courses both inland and along the coast. We have enjoyed some fabulous days out and some great golf to go with it. A few of the favourite courses we have visited are well known and a few will be new to you. Here is a round up of just a few of the fabulous clubs we have visited. Alhaurin Golf: 18 holes - Par 72. Designed by the unforgettable and legendary Severiano Ballesteros. Along these 18 holes you will enjoy the magnificent contrast offered by the well kept treelined fairways, natural roughs and even the wild environment of the Sierra de Mijas. The greens are tricky with many of them being slightly elevated, but once you reach them, putting is a real pleasure on greens of such quality. Atalaya Golf & Country Club: 18 holes - Par 72. Designed by Bernhard von Limburger. The course offers magnificent views of La Concha and the Mediterranean, as well as lakes and streams populated by many species of water birds, including the two resident pairs of swans. The tricky part of this course is the many elevated greens and greenside bunkers, making your approach shot club selection very interesting. Villa Padierna Golf Club: Set amidst gentle green hills and caressed by the breeze of the Mediterranean Sea, the magnificent facilities at Villa Padierna Golf Club pay tribute to the game and delight with peerless service and genuine hospitality. The three 18-hole courses have been designed to be challenging and pleasurable for golfers of all ages and abilities. Marbella Golf & Country Club: 18 holes - Par 72. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior. The course has a very established and mature feel about it and is beautifully carved out of the natural landscape creating many tree lined fairways which are delightful to see but are best avoided from a golfing perspective. Golfing Adventures the legendary Seve Ballesteros, this championship 18 hole course is suitable for all golfers but a wide selection of clubs will be needed to complete the course with any kind of success. The tree lined fairways are in perfect condition and present various strategically placed lakes, streams and bunkers to catch you out if you are not careful. The greens are beautifully maintained and are certainly on the generous side for

the most part but, a few of the tight fairways do finish with smaller greens, requiring some concentration and skill with your approach shot. To go with the beautiful fairways and greens is the course scenery, which is nothing short of spectacular. Well, that is it for this month. f you’re in the market for something to satisfy your audio needs, you may be wondering whether or not headphones or earbuds are the right choice for you. After all, what’s the difference anyway? On top of trying to decide between earbuds and headphones, it’s easy to find yourself overwhelmed by the many different brands out there and what they have to offer in terms of features and design. In this article, I am going to break down what headphones and earbuds are, as well as the differences between them to help you make an informed decision. So let’s start with headphones. Fundamentaly, headphones are two small loudspeakers connected by a band. They’re worn over the top of the head, resting on or over your ears. Each pair of headphones may look different, but their general make up is the same. Headphones generally come with two necessary choices: on-ear or over-ear. Over-ear headphones have large earpads that surround the ears rather than rest on them. They also often come with extra padding on the headband for comfort. The only downside is that they can be quite cumbersome when on the go, but they are good for sealing against the head to help with noise isolation. On ear headphones are designed to rest on your ears rather than around them.Thanks to their small design, on ear headphones are generally lighter but, because they rest on the ears, they are more susceptible to sound intrusion from the outside. Earbuds are a different choice altogether. Earbuds are two compact devices, each with its own driver. They fit either directly into the ear or rest on the inner part of the ear. They can connect to audio devices either through cable or by wireless connection, depending on the model. Their small form factor means they’re unmatched in terms of portability. In terms of audio quality, headphones will usually outperform earbuds at the same price point. For some, earbuds can also be uncomfortable, depending on how they fit your ear, but models do vary so if you find them generally uncomfortable, shop around until you find a model that you like the feel of. Along with comfort, the most important factor to consider is of course the sound quality. Crisp, clear audio is something that everybody wants and both headphones and earbuds feature models that can outperform 40 OCIO magazine

Mussels simple, fresh & delicious Mejiones...sencillos, frescos y deliciosos by Raquel Ortega Ruiz

f you have never tried mussels, you should. Besides being tasty, they are good for you since they contain omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B-12. Because certain food resources like beef are a tremendous burden on the planet in terms of resources, we’re never going to get to the place where everybody on the planet can eat beef. But I do think we’ll get to a place where everybody can eat mussels. Most restaurants that feature mussels serve them as an appetiser because they cook quickly, and they look impressive with their shells usually piled high and sticking out well above the rims of the bowls. Crusty bread is usually served with mussels. If not then request the bread. Once the pile of mussels is reduced, you’ll find a wine broth waiting for you to dip your crusty bread into. The broth usually contains sautéed onions, garlic and thyme. Cleaned mussels are added, the pot is covered and cooked on medium-high for about 5 minutes until the mussels open. Cuando la pila de mejillones se vaya reduciendo encontrarás un delicioso caldo de vino esperando a que remojes tu pan en él. Este caldo normalmente contiene cebolla, ajo y tomillo salteados. Se le añaden los mejillones limpios, se tapa la olla

previously where the mussels were served with broken shells. This is a bad sign that the mussels are not fresh or that possibly the chef or cook didn’t know how to prepare them. Either way, they should not be eaten. Steamed mussels should always be served fresh, anything else is risking your well being. Whilst Mussels are available year round, the peak season for fresh mussels is September to March. If you are unfamiliar with eating Mussels it may seem a little intimidating seeing them arrive at a table, but honestly, it’s not at all difficult to get the hang of them. Some people treat mussels like raw oysters. They suck the meat out of the shell along with the juice. I prefer to hold the shell in one hand, and then using a seafood fork spearing the mussel and pulling it out of the shell. You can then either put it directly into your mouth or dip it in the broth and 48 OCIO magazine

then plop it into your mouth. Once you get down to just broth, make sure you fish out any mussels that may have fallen from the shells. The broth itself you can eat like soup or simply throw caution to the wind and either dunk your bread or place your bread on a plate and spoon the broth over it. Simply delicious! n

Esta es una mala señal de que los mejillones no son todo lo frescos que deberían o de que el cocinero no sabía cómo prepararlos. En cualquier caso, no deberías comerlos. Los mejillones al vapor siempre deben ser frescos, de otra manera pueden ser peligrosos. Aunque hay mejillones disponibles todo el

año, la mejor época para los mejillones frescos es de septiembre a marzo. Si no estás acostumbrado a comer mejillones puede resultar un poco intimidante cuando te los sirvan, pero sinceramente, no es nada difícil cogerles el truco. Hay gente que los come como si fueran ostras crudas. Sorben la carne de la concha junto con el jugo. Yo prefiero sujetar la cáscara con una mano y usar un tenedor de marisco para pinchar el mejillón y separarlo de la concha. Así, puedes comerlo directamente o bañarlo en el caldo antes de echártelo a la boca. Cuando solo te quede el caldo, asegúrate de pescar los mejillones que se hayan salido de sus conchas. Puedes comerte el propio caldo como una sopa, o dejar los remilgos a un lado y empapar tu pan, incluso colocar el pan en un plato y verter el caldo sobre él. ¡Simplemente delicioso! n

Being just a short walk from both the beach at one end of Calle del Mar and the town centre at the other end, you have many options for parking, including the large underground car park which always has parking spaces, even in summer. The restaurant is easy to find with its distinctive white furniture and sun shades laid out on the open terrace.

Service is warm and friendly and being in a pedestrianised area, it’s a perfect safe place for families. All of the food is good quality. The menu is creative with an international fusion of cuisines including Mexican, Italian, American and Spanish. This is certainly a restaurant you will want to visit time and time again to sample the many delights on offer and, with the menu priced to make sure you receive good value for money, there is no reason not to return, bringing your family and friends with you.
