MCP targets growth with high-profile SVPs to lead Offshore and Cruise and Ferry segments Arendal, Norway: Maritime Communication Partner (MCP), a leading global provider of onboard communications solutions, has announced the recruitment of two highly experienced senior executives to lead its dedicated Offshore and Cruise and Ferry Business Units. Churchill Drilling Tools Celebrates Deployment of DAV at Record Depth Churchill Drilling Tools, the provider of reliable and easy to use systems for the drilling and completions markets, has announced the deployment of its dart activated DAV MX™ circulating valve at a record measured depth of 26,012ft. Churchill’s DAV MX™ and its Smart Dart™ activation technology were deployed at the record depth in a development well off Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. Enabling rapid and assured reamer bypass in a sidetrack operation, the application exploited the deepwater capability of the Smart Dart™ to withstand both rapid delivery speeds and high temperature and pressure variations. Using its multi-cycle capability, bypass deactivation was equally simple and assured as the assembly was pulled from hole. This proved the capability of the system to give the operator total control over both the fluid path directions and the drilling equipment whilst maintaining the well control flow-rate objectives set out in the program. The DAV MX™ is used globally across a range of drilling environments including deepwater, high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) and high-angle extended reach drilling. The Mechanical Extrusion system is significantly more reliable, faster and more cost effective than polymer extrusion, the process used for

traditional ball-activated systems. The system’s previous record deployment exceeded 16,000ft in a well West of Shetland. The high profile achievement is the latest to be delivered out of Churchill’s recently opened Houston base, where the full suite of Churchill products and services is now available. Churchill Drilling Tools’ director Mike Churchill said: “Our technology is now well proven and this latest result confirms that we haven’t yet approached the limit of the system’s capabilities. Sonar Equipment Services Delivers First Multi-Sensor ROV Survey Package Great Yarmouth-based Sonar Equipment Services has successfully delivered its first multi-sensor ROV survey package to Calecore’s marine survey division, Calesurvey. The leading supplier of marine survey equipment to the offshore energy industry has integrated, tested and mobilised a complex array of survey and subsea equipment complete with offshore support personnel for the survey in Norwegian waters. The pipeline route survey with environmental and geotechnical studies is being carried out using a work class ROV fitted with an extensive range of geophysical and bathymetry survey sensors and equipment supplied by Sonar Equipment Services. As part of the scope of work, an Innova Matrix MKII fibre optic multiplexer has been supplied to provide stand-alone transport of all survey data over a single fibre. The Matrix MKII is a compact, plug and play interface solution for all subsea sensors and equipment which can be fitted to any hosted platform. Sonar Equipment Services’ dedicated engineering team carried out a full sensor integration and factory acceptance test at their facilities, ensuring that the

Ceona awards £45m contract to ROVOP, creating 50 jobs Global oil and gas subsea construction specialist Ceona has awarded a five-year contract worth over £45million to marketleading independent ROV provider ROVOP. The contract will see ROVOP provide hydraulic, work-class ROV services on board Ceona’s fleet of new, purpose-built deepwater pipelay and construction vessels including the Ceona Amazon and the Polar Onyx. Stuart Cameron, COO at Ceona, said: “This partnership with ROVOP is a significant milestone in the development of Ceona’s new high-capacity fleet. The construction of the Ceona Amazon and the Polar Onyx is progressing on schedule, and with this partnership we’re ensuring our vessels have the best technology on board to match their capabilities and equip them for projects in the most remote and challenging environments.” As a result of this contract, awardwinning ROVOP is creating 50 new jobs further underlining the company’s fast-evolving track record for delivering advanced ROV expertise and equipment, which is underpinned by its high-value quality of service and dedicated team of experienced personnel.

Ceona’s Polar Onyx and Amazon vessels are due to come into service in March 2014 and January 2015 respectively. Based on a drill-ship design, the Ceona Amazon boasts exceptional sea-keeping characteristics making it ideal for operations in remote and challenging locations. The multi-layer vessel, which is SPS compliant and equipped with a DP2 system, is a large, state-of-the-art, multi-functional,

dynamically-positioned, pipelay and construction vessel. The vessel is capable of laying rigid pipelines, flexible pipelines and umbilicals as well as installing large, subsea structures using one or both of its two compensated masthead cranes in tandem-lift mode to 3,000 metres water depth. The vessel does not require a spool base to support its operations and can be remotely operated, making it extremely well suited to overall field development. Ceona’s high-capacity Polar Onyx is designed for operations in harsh conditions and deep waters, with a length of 130 metres and a 25 metre beam. The vessel, which is being built to the highest standard for dynamic positioning, DP3, and is equipped with a 250t AHC offshore crane, is designed to operate in the SURF (subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines), construction, and inspection repair and maintenance markets. With capacity for flexible pipe loads below deck and on main deck, the Polar Oynx is being equipped with a 275t vertical lay system above a moonpool which is capable of installing flexible pipe and umbilicals to 3,000 metres water depth. Fresh Water Safety Plan als onderdeel van MLC ‘Serieus bezig zijn met je bedrijf, comfort bieden aan je bemanning en contractor(s) en zorgen dat je conform regelgeving werkt’, dat was voor Rory Balkema (Vessel Manager van SeaMar Services BV) reden om de expertise van Kalsbeek BV in te roepen voor het opstellen van een Fresh Water Safety Plan voor de SeaMar Splendid. Dit Fresh Water Safety Plan is onderdeel van de Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) wat op 20 augustus jl. wereldwijd in werking is getreden. SeaMar Services vindt het belangrijk om voorop te lopen als het gaat om bijvoorbeeld het comfort en de veiligheid voor de bemanning. Dit blijkt ook uit het nieuwe schip dat ze laten bouwen bij Scheepswerf ‘De Hoop’ in Foxhol. Rory vertelt dat dit schip in juni 2014 wordt opgeleverd. ‘Het is toekomstgericht, milieuvriendelijk en wordt gebouwd met het hoogste comfortniveau’. Dit niveau is vergelijkbaar met het comfort op jachten en cruiseschepen. Logisch dat SeaMar trots is op dit schip in aanbouw. Het schip in kwestie, de SeaMar Splendid wordt ingehuurd voor de uitvoer van inspecties en onderhoud aan platforms. De SeaMar Splendid zorgt voor een stabiel en veilig platform voor de duikers (en klimmers) tijdens deze werkzaamheden. Het schip kent een bemanning van 9 personen, kan maximaal 22 personen herbergen en vaart onder de vlag van Gibraltar. Wat houdt Maritime Labour Certificate in? MLC is een internationale regelgeving die bescherming

biedt aan de bemanning aan boord van schepen. Iedere schip die onder een vlagstaat vaart die de MLC heeft geratificeerd, dient aan een minimale eis te voldoen. Daarnaast kunnen er per vlagstaat aanvullende eisen worden gesteld. In de MLC wordt onder andere stil gestaan bij arbeidsomstandigheden, bemanningssterkte, accommodatie, voeding en drinkwater. Schepen van vlaggenstaten geratificeerd op of voor 20 augustus 2012 van 500 GT of meer die internationale reizen maken, dienen over een Maritime Labour Certificate te beschikken. Voor schepen die varen onder een andere vlagstaat kunnen andere data gelden. Dit is afhankelijk van het moment dat de betreffende vlagstaat de MLC heeft geratificeerd. Vanaf dat moment hebben de betreffende schepen nog een jaar de tijd om het MLC-certificaat te behalen. Certificatieproces Het gehele MLC certificatie proces van de SeaMar Splendid is grotendeels door SeaMar zelf opgelijnd en ingevuld. Aangezien de SeaMar Splendid vaart onder de vlag van Gibraltar dient er rekening gehouden te worden met de extra eisen die er vanuit Gibraltar zijn toegevoegd aan de MLC. Hoofdstuk 3.2 Food & Catering (MLC) alsmede Maritime Labour Notice (MLN) 014 van Gibraltar is van toepassing als het gaat om het beheer, onderhoud en veilig gebruik van de drinkwaterinstallatie aan boord. SeaMar besloot om dit onderdeel professioneel aan te pakken. ‘Mede gezien de constructieve aanpassingen van de afgelopen

jaren nam het belang toe om het systeem weer eens goed in kaart te brengen. Door een specialist als Kalsbeek hiervoor in te zetten wilden we tevens een signaal afgeven dat we deze MLC certificatie serieus hebben aangepakt. Zij beschikken immers over de noodzakelijke kennis als je het hebt over drinkwatersystemen aan boord, een juiste drinkwaterkwaliteit en praktische beheersplannen.’ In een dergelijke situatie is SeaMar op zoek naar kritische inbreng van een specialist. ‘Er is altijd ruimte voor verbetering’, geeft Rory aan. ‘Wat uiteindelijk weer ten goede komt van de bemanning en contractors en/of van het systeem’. Fresh Water Safety Plan Een belangrijk eis vanuit Gibraltar op de MLC is een uitgebreid Fresh Water Safety Plan. Dit plan dient te bestaan uit een beoordeling van het systeem en een risicoinventarisatie. Aangevuld met het managementplan, controles op het drinkwater (sampling) en de preventieve maatregelen. Als uitgangspunt werd door Kalsbeek een Risk Assessment Legionella uitgevoerd op basis van de Engelse ‘Approved Code of Practice’. Jeroen van Nuil, Potable Water Expert van Kalsbeek BV, legt uit hoe dit proces in zijn werk gaat. ‘Aan boord is het complete drinkwatersysteem door ons in kaart gebracht en een volledige

risico-inventarisatie uitgevoerd. Hierna zijn de kritische punten voor dit systeem benoemd. De bevindingen hebben we opgenomen in een praktisch document waarin duidelijke en overzichtelijk staat benoemd welke acties er op welk moment uitgevoerd dienen te worden. Op deze manier is het document eenvoudig toe te voegen aan bestaande onderhoudsplannen. Door deze praktische benadering proberen we een voorbeeld te zijn hoe je MLC ook effectief in de praktijk kan brengen.’ Beoordeling De MLC certificering werd door DNV beoordeeld. DNV is een van de grootste bedrijven voor de scheepsclassificatie voor de maritieme industrie. Deze beoordeling werd gedaan op basis van 14 inspectiepunten, waaronder een beoordeling op de specifieke drinkwatereisen. DNV concludeerde dat er volledig aan de gestelde eisen is voldaan. Het opgeleverde Fresh Water Safety Plan is specifiek, zeer uitgebreid en duidelijk opgesteld. De presentatie is overzichtelijk en voor de bemanning is duidelijk omschreven hoe het plan gebruikt dient te worden. Hierdoor is het plan, voor de mensen aan boord eenvoudig te implementeren. Implementatie ‘Door de wijze waarop het Fresh Water Safety Plan is opgesteld is deze zeer eenvoudig te

integreren met onze bestaande onderhoudssystemen’, vertelt Rory. “De acties vanuit het Fresh Water Safety Plan zijn toegevoegd aan de onderhoudsplannen van de SeaMar Splendid. Op deze manier waarborgen wij dat de acties ook daadwerkelijk worden uitgevoerd. Tevens is er duidelijke communicatie met de bemanning geweest, waardoor zij weten wat er van hen verwacht wordt’. Kalsbeek Offshore & Maritiem De afdeling Offshore & Maritiem is specialist ten aanzien van water en lucht in de offshore en maritieme sector. “We zijn bekend met de regelgeving en richtlijnen voor deze sector en onze mensen zijn opgeleid en gecertificeerd om in deze sector te werken”, vertelt Jeroen. “We houden ons specifiek bezig met de drinkwater- en luchtbehandelingssystemen aan boord van schepen. We denken mee als het gaat om de kwaliteit van deze systemen. We voeren risico-inventarisaties, audits, samplingprogramma’s en analyses uit. Tevens zijn we in te schakelen in het geval van calamiteiten, zoals Legionellabesmettingen. We voeren reinigingen en desinfecties van het drinkwatersysteem uit maar we kunnen ook preventief de jaarlijkse reiniging van wateropslagtanks uitvoeren.”

Van Oord has ordered a new cable-laying vessel. The ship will be built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and will be completed at the end of 2014. The vessel is intended for the installation of electricity cables for offshore wind farms. Van Oord is making preparations for the Gemini offshore wind farm which will be constructed 60 kilometres to the north of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch Wadden Islands. The cable-laying vessel will be deployed at that site, among many others. Main characteristics The vessel will be a multipurpose vessel with a length of 120 metres, a beam of 28 metres and a dynamic positioning system. It will be equipped with a cable carousel

of more than 5,000 tonnes and a heavy crane that will enable it to lay heavy and long export cables. On board 90 people can be accommodated. Strategy The cable-laying vessel forms part of the Van Oord strategy to offer a complete package for the construction of offshore wind farms as an EPC contractor. Furthermore, this contract endorses Van Oord’s drive to continuously serve new and existing markets by investing in new technology and marine ingenuity.

Damen Offshore Carrier 7500 The new Van Oord cable layer is based on the Damen Offshore Carrier, a new multipurpose vessel design with a flush working deck, Heavy Lift or RoRo transport as well as offshore installation capabilities suitable for multiple markets. The Travel Club: verborgen juweeltje op de luchthaven In de vertrekhal van Den Helder Airport treffen we sinds kort het kantoor van The Travel Club–Den Helder aan. Daar worden onder andere vlieg-, bus- en autoreizen, verre reizen, rondreizen, stedentrips, huwelijksreizen, cruises, vliegtickets en ook ‘reizen geheel op maat’ ingevuld. Daarnaast verzorgt men ook alle verzekeringen, visa, autohuur, vaccinaties enz. “Reizen is onze passie en die willen wij graag met u delen!”, zegt Beatrix Schuttenhelm die samen met haar zoon Rory en echtgenoot Loek het bureau inhoud geeft. “The Travel Club is een enthousiaste club van zelfstandige vakbekwame reisadviseurs en lid van de ANVR & SGR, die net iets anders werken dan een standaard reisbureau”, vertelt ze. “Wij zijn bijvoorbeeld 24 uur per dag, zeven dagen per week bereikbaar voor zowel het realiseren van een boeking - en je staat verbaasd als je weet hoe vaak we op een willekeurig tijdstip gebeld worden omdat iemand onverwachts vertrekken moet - als voor het oplossen van een probleem dat ergens ter wereld met één van onze reizigers is ontstaan”. The Travel Club-Den Helder is gespecialiseerd in maatwerk, waarvoor men gebruikmaakt van het totale reisaanbod van alle touroperators, airlines en diverse boekingssystemen. “Wij zijn totaal onafhankelijk en bieden de beste reisoplossing per klant. Los van de reis krijgt de klant de persoonlijke aandacht van één of twee reisadviseurs waardoor wij

de klant goed leren kennen en de klant op zijn of haar beurt precies weet wat hij of zij van ons kan verwachten”, aldus het drietal. Tijdbesparing De winst voor de klant zit hem met name in de tijdbesparing. Waar je gemiddeld diverse websites doorzoekt om bijvoorbeeld een hotel te zoeken en een vlucht te boeken, nemen deze reisadviseurs de klant deze zorgen uit handen. “Naast de leisuremarkt richten wij ons ook op de zakelijke reiziger. Door middel van een unieke combinatie kunnen besparingen tot wel twintig procent worden gerealiseerd op vliegtickets”. Kortom, The Travel Club-Den Helder biedt gemak en probeert zowel kosten als tijd te besparen. “Vertel ons waar je op een bepaalde dag op een bepaald tijdstip moet of wilt zijn en wij gaan alles regelen om dat plan te kunnen uitvoeren. Wij zoeken het beste hotel in de gewenste prijsklasse, zorgen voor het juiste vervoer, regelen zonodig een huurauto of taxivervoer en organiseren alle faciliteiten voor de terugreis”

Door mond-op-mond reclame zijn al veel relaties in Den Helder en omgeving bekend met The Travel Club. Maar ook doordat het bureau op Den Helder Airport van The Travel Club nog verder gaat. Loek Schuttenhelm werkt aan het uitbreiden van (vlieg)verbindingen vanaf Den Helder Airport naar onder anderen de Baltische staten. “We krijgen vragen voor lijndienstvluchten naar bestemmingen waar geen rechtstreekse vluchten vanaf Den Helder voor bestaan”, legt hij uit. Om de mogelijkheden daartoe te onderzoeken, werkt hij nauw samen met ‘niche’ luchtvaartmaatschappijen die met kleinere vliegtuigen dergelijke vluchten wél kunnen uitvoeren. “We denken dat er voldoende emplooi is voor het realiseren van dergelijke lijnvluchten”, zegt hij. Waarmee de mogelijkheden van The Travel Club nog verder zullen worden uitgebreid. Maar voorlopig zijn zij ‘24/7’ bereikbaar.

Wat is uw functie en voor welk bedrijf werkt u? Operations officer bij Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen (NHV). Wat is uw naam, uw leeftijd, in welke plaats bent u geboren en waar woont u nu? Harrald Beekman, 52 jaar, geboren in Apeldoorn en woon nu in Kolhorn. Waar bent u naar school gegaan en welke opleiding(en) hebt u gevolgd? Naar school gegaan in Apeldoorn: basisschool, Mavo, Middelbare Derailhandels Vakschool. En verder een opleiding tot loadcontroller bij Swissair genoten in Zürich. Hoe bent u in het werkgebied Offshore (olie/gas/wind) terechtgekomen en sinds wanneer? Voor acht jaar lang heb ik op Schiphol gewerkt bij Swissair, Easy Jet, Arke Fly en Menzies groundhandling. Door de zware tijden die de luchtvaart op Schiphol soms meemaakt, heb ik uiteindelijk gekozen voor de offshore sector. In 2007 ben ik in Den Helder bij de afdeling Operations van Bristow Helicopters aan de slag gegaan en het laatste jaar ben ik werkzaam bij NHV. Hoe zien uw dagelijkse activiteiten er uit? Het coordineren van in- en uitgaande helikoptervluchten voor onze klant Wintershall. Het voelt als een spin in een web. De afdeling operations maakt vliegplannen, geeft belangrijke informatie aan de vliegers zoals meteo-gegevens, gewichten van passagiers en vracht. Door een goede communicatie met onze klant Wintershall, de vliegers, de engineers en de

grondafhandeling, zorgt de afdeling operations voor een soepellopende operatie. Dit blijft altijd een uitdaging om zo onze “kisten” op tijd te laten vertrekken. Daarbij denk ik aan seizoenen met mist, sneeuw en slecht zicht. Wat zou u nog graag willen doen in de toekomst? Dit werk blijven doen! Wel zou ik graag binnen NHV nog eens in het buitenland willen helpen, met bijvoorbeeld het opzetten van een nieuwe basis. Maar ik wil zeker niet permanent weg uit Den Helder. Is er iemand met wie u van plaats(functie) zou willen ruilen? Graag zou ik eens met een offshore radio-operator willen ruilen. Heeft u een specifieke vrije tijdsbesteding of hobby? Mijn vrije tijd besteed ik aan zeilen, motorrijden en sleutelen aan m’n oldtimer. Maar de meeste tijd gaat toch in m’n oude huis in Kolhorn zitten. Houdt u het nieuws een beetje bij? Zo ja, is er iets gebeurd afgelopen maand dat in het nieuws kwam en u heeft geraakt? Wat me het meest heeft geraakt is het helikopterongeval in Schotland. Wij zijn best brutaal: Wat is uw motto in het leven? Mijn motto is: probeer te leven alsof het je laatste dag is. Technip opens its new subsea purpose-built headquarters in Westhill Technip, world leader in project management, engineering and construction for the energy industry, opens its brand new purpose-built UK subsea headquarters in Westhill, on the outskirts of Aberdeen. Reinforcing the Company’s longterm commitment to serving the North Sea market, this new site brings much of the Company’s 1,200-strong workforce together onto one site and aims at improving the quality of facilities for employees, which supports the development of Technip’s people, a key priority for the Group. This £15 million redevelopment project saw the construction of a 60,000 sq ft building and one and a half storey car park to replace existing buildings on the site. The new facility provides extensive office space, including meeting rooms and dedicated emergency response facilities, as well as a restaurant, coffee shop and gym facilities. Current parking at the site has also been boosted by around 450 spaces.

Ik heb de opleidingen secretarieel medewerker en de opleiding Marketing & Communicatie gevolgd op het ROC in Amsterdam Oost. Hoe bent u in het werkgebied Offshore (olie/gas/wind) terechtgekomen en sinds wanneer? Doordat er helaas geen contract verlenging kon plaats vinden bij mijn vorige werkgever vanwege bezuinigingen heb ik meteen mijn CV online gezet op verschillende jobboards. Het resultaat was sneller dan verwacht. Na een week werd ik benaderd door een recruiter van Atlas of ik interesse had om bij hun op het kantoor in Hoofddorp te gaan werken. De mensen benaderen gaat zowel telefonisch als via de e-mail. Doordat er veel uiteenlopende vacatures beschikbaar zijn zoek je op verschillende jobboards naar kandidaten. Op Social Media ben ik ook altijd actief aan het zoeken.

Als ik dan toch in de toekomst moet kijken zou ik uiteindelijk als international account manager aan het werk willen gaan. Een breed pakket van werkzaamheden waarin je alsnog recruit maar daarentegen ook veel contact heb met je klanten en deze ook regelmatig bezoekt. Dit zou eventueel ook in het buitenland kunnen zijn aangezien we ook veel internationale klanten hebben.

Denk hierbij aan het benaderen van kandidaten via bijv. LinkedIn. Je bent veel met mensen in gesprek. Mocht het van beide kanten bevallen nodig je deze kandidaat natuurlijk graag uit voor een sollicitatiegesprek. In een sollicitatiegesprek zijn er vanuit beide partijen natuurlijk veel vragen. Na dit gesprek heb je een goede indruk van de kandidaat waarmee je dus meteen aan de slag gaat met een voorstel voor je klant. In overleg met de accountmanager word dit voorstel opgestuurd. Dus om het even kort samen te vatten is de dagelijkse activiteit voornamelijk het zoeken naar kandidaten en deze mensen ook meteen benaderen. Wat zou u nog graag willen doen in de toekomst? Als ik kijk naar Atlas Services Group vind ik het belangrijk om eerst kennis te hebben van je vakgebied en je klanten. Omdat ik

Fairmount Fuji assisted Saipem in Congolese waters

Fairmount Marine’s multipurpose vessel Fairmount Fuji has assisted Italian contractor Saipem with her operations offshore Congo. Fairmount Fuji has performed several cargo runs between Siapem’s Boscongo yard in Pointe Noire and the offshore Congo moored drilling ship Siapem 1000. Fairmount Fuji also took care of the transport of Saipem crew. Drilling ship Saipem 1000, a 5th generation drilling ship for ultra deepwater operations, was moored offshore Congo pending her next assignment. Fairmount Marine was contracted to assist in the crew change and in the transfer of cargo. Fairmount Fuji transported around 150 personnel to and from the ship. Fairmount Fuji is equipped with a spacious 280 square meters deck. This makes her ideal for the transport of goods. Fairmount Marine is a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation, headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Fairmount’s fleet of tugs consists of five modern super tugs of 205 tons bollard pull each, especially designed for long distance towing, a multipurpose support vessel and a large submersible transport barge. AVEVA announces speakers and sponsors for AVEVA World Summit 2013 Bestselling author Dan Roam will share his insights on how visual thinking can transform business communication AVEVA today announced additional speaker, sponsor and agenda details for this year’s AVEVA World Summit. This global event is being held from 30 October – 1 November in Boston, Massachusetts, USA where author Dan Roam will stimulate delegates’ imagination in an engaging keynote session. Fast-growing ROVOP appoints finance director Subsea specialist ROVOP has appointed a finance director to further strengthen the company’s position for future growth. Alan Shanks takes up the post and also joins ROVOP’s Board of directors, bringing extensive experience in successfully facilitating and managing strategic business expansion from a financial perspective. Previously financial director for subsea oil and gas group, Harkand ISS, Alan’s track record also includes considerable experience of working with owner managed and private equity backed businesses to help drive forward growth. Steven Gray, managing director at ROVOP, said Alan further strengthened the management team at the independent company which focuses exclusively on providing remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services for the oil & gas and offshore wind markets. Prior to joining ISS, Alan was head of corporate finance and advisory services at chartered accountants Hall Morrice where he established a new corporate finance service offering. He was previously assistant director of corporate finance at Ernst & Young where he managed transactions on behalf of clients including acquisitions, disposals and finance raising.
