In Lithuania, Mammoet transported and installed a walking bridge across the Alytuas Park valley in the city of Alytus. The main section of the bridge and the two side sections are each approximately 100 meters long.

Svitzer to take delivery of Damen ASD 2310 and ASD 2411 tugs Latest additions to the fleet to operate in Bahamas Salvage and Towage specialist Svitzer is all set to take delivery of two new Damen ASD tugs. Svitzer will operate the tugs, an ASD 2310 named Svitzer Yuma and an ASD 2411 named Svitzer Freeport in and around the port area of Freeport on the Bahamian island of Grand Bahama.

Though Svitzer has ordered vessels from Damen previously, these are the first orders from Svitzer USA in Miami. Damen Manager North America Jan van Hogerwou said he is excited by the development.

Damen Global Account Manager for Svitzer Martijn Smit explained that Svitzer required a fast turnaround on their order, which made Damen’s off-the-shelf approach a natural selection. “Svitzer Yuma was ordered towards the end of last year and Svitzer Freeport in February this year. Both vessels will be delivered simultaneously to the client at the beginning of June.” The tugs are being built at Damen Shipyards Changde. The Chinese yard, specialising in the delivery of tugs and workboats, features a production hall for vessels up to 26m, making it the ideal location for the construction of both vessels. Both Svitzer Yuma and Svitzer Freeport have already been launched and are currently undergoing final outfitting. They will undergo trials in May, after which they will be delivered to the client in Shanghai. From Shanghai the vessels will be transported as heavy-lift cargo to Freeport.

Freeport is the industrial centre of the Bahamas. The port area, which

is managed by the Grand Bahama Port Authority, sees a lot of maritime activity from both tourist and industrial sectors. Svitzer plays an important role in the local maritime economy, currently operating four vessels in Grand Bahama. Upon arrival at their destination, Svitzer will hold a naming ceremony for the vessels. “We want to celebrate the arrival of the vessels with the community of Grand Bahama,” explained Marinus Lorwa,

Chief Operating Officer of Svitzer Caribbean. “The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the Bahamian Government and the Grand Bahama Port Authority, as well as personnel from Damen and our own crew and their families.”

The two-vessel order comes following Damen’s recent delivery of three ATD 2412 tugs and an ASD 3212 to Svitzer. Mr Lorwa explained his reasons for selecting Damen: “We chose Damen because of their excellent reputation and for the outstanding products they deliver. I’ve worked with Damen previously and I’m very pleased with the concept, with the vessels and also with the after-sales care. That, for me, is what pushed the button.”

CPA signs MOU with Nederex and Damen Shipyards Willemstad, Curacao - Curacao Ports Authority NV (“CPA”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nederex BV. (Nederex) and B.V. Damen Shipyards Gorinchem (Damen) on the 30th of April. Damen Shipyards and Nederex are engaged in ship repair and the provision of maritime services. Last year CPA and Nederex signed a concession agreement with regard to the activities of Nederex within the St. Anna Bay, from an area which is managed by CPA. “This cooperation is an important step in the right direction,” said Humberto de Castro, CPA’s CEO. “The MOU with Nederex and Damen will strengthen our port and is certainly a positive factor for the economy of Curaçao.”

Damen is located in the Netherlands and operates 32 other ship and repair yards worldwide, with more than 9,000 people. Damen will offer its ship repair and marine services from Curacao and will work together with Nederex to exploit the concession granted by CPA to Nederex. In the recently signed MOU, the parties have defined their further arrangements in order to come to a collaboration with regard to these operations.

“It is our intention to have our own floating dock for maintenance and repairs for Damen customers here in the region,” Jaap de Lange suggests, Damen Services Director.

“We hope to be ready for our first customer at the end of this year or early 2016.”

Albert Zwueste, the COO of CPA, says already a working group is in place to work out the technical aspects, including obtaining the necessary permits for the activities surrounding this project.

“As the Curaçao Ports Authority we are very pleased with the signing of this MOU,” said Raul Manotas, the CCO of CPA. “This project will have a direct, positive impact on maritime traffic in our port, and that is exactly what we need for our port.”

LR Senergy publishes industry-respected Ternan North Sea report Regional play fairway mapping is the key to locating remaining prospectivity in the prolific North Sea hydrocarbon province, according to the new Ternan play evaluation report released by global energy services company LR Senergy.

The Ternan 2015 Integrated North Sea Report is the latest in a series of regional play fairway evaluations that analyse petroleum systems and provide exploration specialists with a unique insight into the regional risk factors that impact subsurface studies. The reports are designed for evaluation and screening of exploration opportunities. They help minimise regional risk and increase exploration success, and can be used for rapid assessment of acreage in mature, underexplored and frontier basins.

Ternan, a wholly owned subsidiary of LR Senergy, has had a long and successful history of publishing play fairway reports, the first of which was released in 2003. This report covered the UK Central North Sea and was closely followed by reports on the UK Northern North Sea, the Norwegian North Sea, the UK Atlantic Margin and the Irish Atlantic Margin, on behalf of the Irish government.

The 2015 Ternan report builds on the three previous North Sea studies to provide an integrated suite of play maps, incorporating recently released wells and new geological interpretations to give a comprehensive view of the remaining hydrocarbon potential of 19 North Sea plays.

Global head of reservoir services at LR Senergy, Rob Fisher, said: “We are confident this report will help to reinvigorate interest, investment and long-term commitment to the North Sea oil industry.

“The importance of understanding how the regional geology of the North Sea relates to the petroleum system and prospectivity of a play cannot be underestimated. No other product has the same level of detail or data coverage. Mapping the North Sea as a single depositional province, by removing the barrier of the UK/Norway median line, allows these plays to be explored with much more confidence as the maps provide an uninterrupted view of regional prospectivity across the province.”

LR Senergy’s 2015 Ternan report is based upon the interpretation of more than 2,700 released wells combined with previous work and a large volume of published data. The maps and interpretation provide the user with an analysis of the prospectivity of 19 plays spanning the Palaeozoic to the Tertiary. Report author, David Mudge, has used his 38 years’ of North Sea and North Atlantic exploration experience to provide a comprehensive analysis of this globally important hydrocarbon province.

Dr Mudge said: “The 2014 Wood Review called for a revitalisation of regional exploration in the North

Sea to ensure that both existing and new plays are explored, appraised and exploited to their full potential. Play fairway mapping, which displays the regional risk associated with individual plays, is the most effective and systematic way to locate these remaining resources. Our new report will provide the tools for companies to assess the remaining prospectivity of the large number of North Sea plays with proven hydrocarbons, and to locate new resources in areas of poorly understood geology and limited exploration.”

The Ternan report is published as a digital atlas with an accompanying well database and ArcGIS

project. The digital atlas contains more than 160 maps and figures, illustrating the interpretation that builds into a complete picture of the play fairway of each of the 19 plays in the region.

The well database is available as either an ODMTM project or MS Access database. The data can form the basis of a reference database and be merged into existing interpretations from any industry standard software package. The ArcGIS project contains over 100 maps that are also provided as georeferenced jpeg files.

Ceona awarded new deepwater Gulf of Mexico contract with Bennu Oil & Gas Tuesday, May 5, 2015, London, UK – Ceona, SURF contractor with heavy subsea construction capabilities, has been awarded a new deepwater contract with Houston-based Bennu Oil & Gas LLC in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) on their Mirage field. This contract comes after a first contract was awarded and completed last year for operations on their Clipper deepwater field.

The agreement will see Ceona deploy its newest vessel, the Amazon, to install a flexible flowline of approximately 2.4 miles (3.8 kilometres) and an umbilical

of about 2.6 miles (4.2 km) from Bennu’s Mirage well location, which is located in Block 941 of the Mississippi Canyon Field. Each will be tied-back to Bennu’s Titan

Production Facility at a depth of approximately 4,000 feet (1,200 metres).

The contract is the second that Ceona has won with Bennu after previously being selected to install a 1.1 mile (1.7 km) umbilical and two 15 mile (24 km) electric quad cables at a depth of 3,000 ft (914 m) on the Clipper pglenroject in spring 2014.

Offshore work is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2015 and, as with the previous operation, the project management and engineering work will be coordinated from Ceona’s Houston offices.

Janelle Pence, VP Commercial Americas, commented: “We have established a strong relationship with Bennu following our previous work together and this latest

contract gives us the opportunity to build on this as well as our track record in the GoM. We are also pleased to be able to deploy the Amazon on this project because it provides another opportunity to demonstrate the vessel’s deepwater capabilities.”

The project is the second that Ceona has been awarded in the GoM to be carried out by its flagship field development vessel, the Ceona Amazon. In March, the company announced a Letter of Intent for a major rigid pipelay project in the Gulf of Mexico for leading US independent oil & gas operator, Walter Oil & Gas Corporation.

The unique Ceona Amazon will be deployed on the Coelacanth export pipelines project with the scope of work involving the vessel laying both an oil and gas export line, totalling more than 22.5 miles (36km).

The Ceona Amazon is a multi-functional vessel capable of operating in multiple pipelay (rigid/ flexible pipe and umbilicals) and operational mode (heavy subsea construction). At 655 ft (199m) long, it is equipped for heavy lifting with two 400mt deepwater cranes, and has capacity to carry 9,500mt of pipe.

One of Northwestern Europe’s largest offshore heliport renovated Den Helder Airport ready for new markets Den Helder, 23 April 2015 – Following extensive work, the partly renovated platform of Den Helder Airport was officially reopened, today. Thanks to the renovations, as well as existing helicopter flights, Den Helder Airport is now better equipped for passenger transport to European offshore cities and windfarms in the North Sea. “Thanks to renovation of the platform, over the next few years we will be better able to serve new growth markets, thereby considerably strengthening our position as the international centre for offshore activities in the North Sea. We aim to become the economic powerhouse for the entire region, and have announced the ambition of doubling the number of jobs on offer, over the next few years. In other words, our focus is clearly aimed at future opportunities,” explained Conny van den Hoff, Director of Den Helder Airport.

New markets Over the next few years, Den Helder Airport aims to attract new markets. Thanks to a recently announced permit, the airport can continue to grow to 27,000 aircraft movements per year. Den Helder Airport is currently in negotiation with a number of interested providers of scheduled flight services.

Scheduled and charter services (maximum capacity approx.

30 people), for example for the transport of offshore personnel from the Netherlands and abroad, including a scheduled service to Aberdeen in Scotland and Esbjerg in Denmark, are on the cards.

Because of its ideal location in respect of the Southern North Sea and close collaboration with the sea and offshore Port of Den Helder, Den Helder Airport also aims to focus on helicopter transport for maintenance personnel to the ever growing number of windfarms in the North Sea. Renovation The extensive renovation of the three oldest aircraft hard standings, undertaken by Ballast Nedam, lasted one and a half months. The old asphalt was recycled, and reused in a durable, low-maintenance platform. The renovated surface now consists of seamless, non-permeable concrete, surrounded by new asphalt.

Following the renovation, the entire platform was completed with

new marker lines, so the airport once again meets the very latest requirements. Proserv successfully delivers opening phase of record contract Global-leading energy services company Proserv has successfully completed the first phase of one of its largest contracts yet to provide subsea control systems for deepwater projects in Brazil.

The firm has delivered the initial three of nine control systems that will support drill pipe riser (DPR) intervention services at depths of 2500 metres. The work forms part of a $40million (approx £24m) deal with a leading oilfield service company. The remaining six systems are expected to be delivered by the turn of the year in line with key project milestones. A new subsea company is being launched at OTC in Houston today (4/05/15). Underwater Integrity Solutions (UIS), headquartered in Houston, is an independent company focused on underwater integrity, production assurance and life extension for subsea fields.

This method allows optimization of the project duration by taking reeling off critical path and minimizing vessel transit time to return back to the spool base to pick up the remaining pipe reels.Lewek Constellation’s 3,000-ton crane situated at the stern of the vessel is a versatile crane that can be utilized to perform heavy lifts for large manifolds, platforms and topsides, as well as to transfer the reels from the material/spooling barge to its deck. The reels will have a weight of approximately 850 tons when empty and approximately 2,100 tons when fully loaded.

Pipe Laying Capabilities In rigid reel lay, Lewek Constellation can apply up to 800 tons of dynamic top tension on flowlines and rigid risers with up to 16 inch nominal pipe diameter. With this tension, pipelay at deep and even ultra-deep waters are no longer a remote possibility.

This is ideal for remote locations close to the Arctic region in terms of minimizing the downtime due to weather.

Green Marine takes delivery of Multi Cat 2712 workboat Marine operations company Green Marine Energy Support Services, based in Stromness, Orkney (Orkney Islands), recently took delivery of a Damen Multi Cat 2712 workboat for its offshore wave and tidal activities. The vessel’s first job was laying the moorings for and towing Green Marine’s heavy-lifting barge and the removal of the HS1000 tidal turbine for Andritz Hydro Hammerfest, which was carried out successfully and in record time.

With a length of 27.7 metres and a beam of 12.45 metres, the Multi Cat 2712 workboat, which was christened Green Isle, is a standard design with several modifications, i.e. a customised mooring system and Green Marine’s own winches, which were installed by Damen and commissioned on board. The vessel has a speed of 10 knots, complies with the MCA CAT 1 workboat code and has a maximum bollard pull of 34.8 tonnes (average 33 tonnes).

The workboat’s basic functions for Green Marine will be anchor handling, installing wave and tidal energy devices, assisting barge operations, dredger service, supply, towing, hose handling and survey. For propulsion it is fitted with two Caterpillar C32 TTA ACERT engines with a total power of 1,790 bkW at 1,800 rpm.

Typical applications of Damen Multi Cat vessels in general are towing and pushing operations, dredging support, harbour mainte-

nance, buoy and anchor handling, deck and/or liquid-cargo transport and pollution control.

Mr Jason Schofield, Managing Director of Green Marine, says: “Damen’s short delivery time – just over one month – was crucial to us. The order was placed on 16 March and we were able to take delivery of the workboat on 22 April, so we could start our job for Andritz Hydro Hammerfest straight away. There’s been an excellent relationship with mutual trust between all parties.

Olsen Windcarrier Recently ELA Container Offshore GmbH delivered a 20 ft Offshore Drying Container to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier. The container has been installed on board of the jack-up installation vessel “Brave Tern” to dry suits, boots and gloves of the staff on board. “We decided to use an ELA Offshore Drying Container to get the clothes dry as fast as possible.

Based on our previous experience we were confident that ELA would be a reliable partner and would deliver on time”, says Michael Koed Aasted, Procurement and Logistics Manager at Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

The 20 ft ELA Offshore Drying Container is available for rent and sale. It is equipped with a Pronomar Drying System which is suitable to dry suits, boots and gloves for up to 20 people. All drying systems are made from solid stainless steel and therefore built to last. The drying systems dry the clothes from the inside out by means of a large amount of warm air entering from a powerful blower. “The drying systems prolong the lifetime of the costly work outfits. From a health point of view, the amount of sick leave decreases as workers are more likely to get sick when working in wet or damp working suits”, says Katharina Pleus, Marketing and Project Manager at ELA Container Offshore GmbH. “Mr. Aasted already visited and inspected our Drying Container at a trade fair in Copenhagen and was highly impressed by the high quality of our products”.

The Drying Container was delivered by ELA’s own truck to Bremerhaven and will be in use on the “Brave Tern” for at least two months. Currently, the “Brave Tern” is active on a project in the German Bight. “The communication within the process from offer

Special solutions for installing biggest steel bridge in Lithuania In Lithuania, Mammoet transported and installed a walking bridge across the Alytuas Park valley in the city of Alytus. The main section of the bridge and the two side sections are each approximately 100 meters long. The resulting 300 meters of solid steel weighs over 600 tons which creates challenges when maneuvering the sections due to both their length and weight.

Construction Company Alkesta, a major construction company in Lithuania, was commissioned by the Lithuanian Government to build a unique walking bridge.

The delicate bridge will connect two banks of the river Numenas, which crosses the Alytuas Park valley and is the biggest river in the country. Alkesta asked Mammoet to carry out the transportation and installation of the sections with an average weight of 204 tons each.

The original bridge across the Numenas was destroyed during bombing in World War II. The purpose of the new crossing is to make the area, which is a national reserve, more accessible, enabling people to enjoy the local nature more. Thus, the government aims to increase the number

of tourists and further grow the area economically.

The project presented a range of challenges including possible harsh weather conditions, a strong current and the width of the river.

Mammoet’s experience in carrying out these types of complex and extensive projects enabled us to advise the client on the best possible approach. Previous experience working in environmentally sensitive locations like national reserves, where many responsible construction methods are required, was especially useful. IHC IQIP B.V. regularly uses the worldwide logistic services of Royal Wagenborg for transporting its heavy piling hammers.

Recently Wagenborg was awarded another logistic challenge: transporting a hydraulic pile driving hammer S-3000, sleeve and additional materials from the production sites in Kinderdijk and Sliedrecht to Flushing, The Netherlands. The hammer and sleeve, together weighing 540 tonnes, measuring 25 meters in height and 6,6 meters in diameter, had to be transported in a vertical position,

which was quite a challenge.

By means of a 13-axle modular trailer and a 7-axle lowloader the heavy parts were transported to the nearby quayside. Here the floating cranes Matador 3 and Matador 2 lifted the precious cargo on a pontoon, measuring 60m in length and 14,5m in width.

Besides these heavy parts Wagenborg also took care of loading

additional equipment, such as 3 power packs, some containers, UET, TLPT and lots of hoses, with the help of several mobile cranes varying from 130 – 400 tonnes lifting capacity. After completion of the entire loading operations, the pontoon was towed to the final destination in Flushing by the Wagenborg tugs Waterlelie and Waterpoort.

ELA Container Offshore GmbH provides Offshore Accommodation for Van Oord ELA Container Offshore GmbH delivered two Offshore Offices as well as six Offshore Living Quarters to the Dutch company Van Oord. They will be used on Van Oord’s accommodation pontoon “Astrachan”. The “Astrachan” is 60 m long and 15 m wide and already has accommodation facilities on board. “For this project we were in need of extra accommodation and hence, we decided in favor of the flexible solutions ELA offers”, say Gerrit Jansen, Projectmanager at Van Oord.

One ELA employee was on site to install the containers on the “Astrachan” including all connections such as pipes and cables.

The assembled complex is two stories high with first level consisting of two Offshore Living Quarters and two Offshore Office Containers with four Wastewater Tanks attached below. The second floor consists of four Offshore Living Quarters. Moreover, 16 Gangways, 3 Small Stairs and 2 Stairways complete the structure. “Because we pre-assembled our containers during production in Germany, we were able to guarantee a quick assembly on site. Assembly of the containers was achieved smoothy and efficiently to our utmost

satisfaction”, says Frank ter Haak, Business Development Manager at ELA Container Offshore GmbH. ELA Offshore Containers are available for sale and for rent.
