OIS TAT IN 2017
SPREAD OUT THEATRE POW ALL AROUND
1
OISTAT was born out of connecting theatre practitioners and stimulating international collaborations in performing arts field. Over the past 49-year journey, we together created beautiful things and made a difference in theatre community. 2018 is a big year of OISTAT. We sincerely invite you to celebrate what we have done in the past and discover more possibilities in the future.
WER THE WORLD. 2
FROM PRESIDENT In 2017, our four major OISTAT projects— World Stage Design, Scenofest, Theatre Architecture Competition and Technical Invention Prize— were presented together for the first time. In Taiwan, from July 1 to 9, people from over 73 countries came together in Taipei to experience this unique event. We met old friends and made many new during the OISTAT World Congress and OISTAT night, and made plans for future OISTAT activities. As a result of the presentations of candidates to host the next edition of this great combined event, we are pleased to announce that the next World Stage Design will be held in Calgary, Canada in August, 2021. During congress elections were held, which led to several changes in the Executive Committee. EC members Aby Cohen and Miljana Zeković stepped down, and we like to thank them heartily for their engagement, support and drive during the past four years. After a long period of involvement in governing OISTAT both Michael Ramsaur and Louis Janssen stepped down. Both gentlemen have been EC member as well as President, Michael being Louis’ predecessor. We like to express our gratitude for their commitment, inspiration and guidance, especially to Louis, as he stepped down from being our inspirational President for the past eight years. It is my honor to take over the Presidency from him. Marina Raytchinova, Duncan Ei-Eu Chang, Sean Crowley were re-elected and we are happy to welcome the newly elected EC members— Hazem Shebl, Ivo Kersmaekers, Jan K. Rolník and Kevin Rigdon. The global members are the most important assets of the organization. In 2017, we have reached out to more regions and members, making theatre community bigger. We would like to give a warm welcome to our new OISTAT Centres Associação Portuguesa de Cenografia/ Portuguese Association of Scenography-APCEN (Portugal), and Asociación OISTAT España/ Association OISTAT Spain-AOS (Spain), new Associate member, SGT University (India), and new Individual members, Aby Cohen (Brazil), Rosane Muniz (Brazil), Renato Bolelli Rebouças (Brazil), Xian Wu (China), Cyril Lamy (France), Dinesh Yadav (India), Catherine O'Carroll (Ireland), Waleed Ameer (Kuwait), Adrian Damian (Romania), Jeong Sik Yoo (South Korea), Scott Andrew Cally (USA), Richard Bryant (USA) and Michael Ramsaur (USA). 2017 has been a year full of remarkable achievement. OISTAT footprints were left in Gurugram, India; Novi Sad, Serbia; London, UK; Budapest, Hungary; Hsinchu and Taipei, Taiwan. We will continue to expand the theatre network worldwide and provide a platform crossing the boundaries between countries, languages, generations and cultures to stimulate more connection and collaboration among theatre professionals. In 2018, the bridge year of WSD2017 and PQ’19, OISTAT is going to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in Cardiff, UK. Looking forward to meeting you all there.

2017 is the high year of OISTAT that for the first time four major international projects, World Stage Design, Scenofest, Theatre Architecture Competition and Technical Invention Prize, were held together hence the project expenditure is higher than usual. For that reason in 2017 the expenses were higher than incomes. This overspending was possible due to systematic reserves growing in last years (see Statement of financial position for more information). OISTAT's expenses vary from year to year. There are years of projects where expenses are greater, and years where projects and expenses are less.
