LADY’ SPEECH

“One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. “ Michelle Obama

v

First Lady Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is a lawyer, writer, and the wife of the 44th and current President, Barack Obama. She is the first African-American First Lady of the United States. Through her four main initiatives, she has become a role model for women and an advocate for healthy families, service members and their families, higher education, and international adolescent girls education.

When people ask First Lady Michelle Obama to describe herself, she doesn't hesitate to say that first and foremost, she is Malia and Sasha's mom.

But before she was a mother — or a wife, lawyer, or public servant — she was Fraser and Marian Robinson's daughter. The Robinsons lived in a brick bungalow on the South Side of Chicago. Fraser was a pump operator for the Chicago OMTIMES.COM

Water Department, and despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age, he hardly ever missed a day of work. Marian stayed home to raise Michelle and her older brother Craig, skillfully managing a busy household filled with love, laughter, and important life lessons. A product of Chicago public schools, Michelle Robinson studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton University. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1988, she joined the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin, where she later met Barack Obama, the man who would become the love of her life. After a few years, Mrs. Obama decided her true calling was working with people to serve their

communities and their neighbors. She served as assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago's City Hall before becoming the founding executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program that prepares youth for public service. In 1996, Mrs. Obama joined the University of Chicago with a vision of bringing campus and community together.

OMTIMES.COM

As Associate Dean of Student Services, she developed the university's first community service program, and under her leadership as Vice President of Community and External Affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center, volunteerism skyrocketed. Mrs. Obama has continued her efforts to support and inspire young people during her time as First Lady.

We are living in very strange times no doubt. The current Political scenario sure can be stranger than fiction, especially when we refer to Women’s role in our society. 2016 seems to be the year of contradictions, where true American values are being questioned in their core, and obsolete perspectives are brought back to the Homefront, almost like they never had left. The disrespect for Women has been a widespread practice not only in the political arena, here at home but in several segments of our society worldwide. The wave of neo-conservative perspective is effecting a slow distortion on the progressive beacon we have been as a nation, many times as a role Model to the rest of the world.

OMTIMES.COM

During the 2016 year, we saw cases such as the one with Brock Turner, a young athlete that raped an unconscious girl on campus being supported by a corrupt system that protects rich abusers and sexual predators on College Campus. We watched in dismay the crumbling of the network of Women health clinics that catered for the Health of lowincome women across the country in the name of manipulation and government control. We witness the increase of disrespectful rhetoric that lessen our conquered territory on equality, casting a shadow on our roles as active part of the society. The divisive rhetoric evokes tints of shame and humiliation to many of us, about our looks, about how do we should control our health, or what are our rights as global citizens.

Empowering Women and Girls have been a signature of Michelle Obama’s groundbreaking work as the nation’s First Lady for the past eight years. Her impeccable style, her fearless ways, and her inspiring speeches brought back the certainty that there is a common underline thread running through our veins that unite the women of this country: A sisterhood of mothers, daughters, sisters and best friends. Michelle understood that when you empower women, you empower communities. Michelle Obama recently delivered an unforgettable speech in which she talked about what it means to be a woman in a society dominated by men. “I feel it so personally,” she said. “The shameful comments about our bodies, the disrespect of our ambitions and our intellect, the belief OMTIMES.COM

you can do anything you want to a woman? It’s cruel, it’s frightening. And the truth is that it hurts — It hurts.” Her campaign speeches have a historical quality about them, and they’ll go down in history just as she will.

Michelle Obama's Speech On Donald Trump's Alleged Treatment Of Women EXCERPT

“…On Tuesday, at the White House, we celebrated the International Day of the Girl and Let Girls Learn, and it was a wonderful celebration. It was the last event that I'm going to be doing as First Lady for Let Girls Learn. And I had the pleasure of spending hours talking to some of the most amazing young women you will ever meet, young girls here in the U.S. and all around the world. And we talked about their hopes and their dreams. We talked about their aspirations. See, because many of these girls have faced unthinkable obstacles just to attend school, jeopardizing their personal safety, their freedom, risking the rejection of their families and communities. So I thought it would be important to remind these young women how valuable and precious they are. I wanted them to understand OMTIMES.COM

that the measure of any society is how it treats its women and girls. And I told them that they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and I told them that they should disregard anyone who demeans or devalues them, and that they should make their voices heard in the world. And I walked away feeling so inspired, just like I'm inspired by all the young people here — and I was so uplifted by these girls. That was Tuesday. And now, here I am, out on the campaign trail in an election where we have consistently been hearing hurtful, hateful language about women — language that has been painful for so many of us, not just as women, but as parents trying to protect our children and raise them to be caring, respectful adults, and as citizens

who think that our nation's leaders should meet basic standards of human decency. The fact is that in this election, we have a candidate for President of the United States who, over the course of his lifetime and the course of this campaign, has said things about women that are so shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And last week, we saw this candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women. And I can't believe that I'm saying that a candidate for President of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women. And I have to tell you that I can't stop thinking about this. It has shaken me to my core in a way that I couldn't have predicted. So while I'd love nothing more than to pretend like this isn't happening, and to come out here and do my normal campaign speech, it would be dishonest and disingenuous to me to just

OMTIMES.COM

move on to the next thing like this was all just a bad dream. This is not something that we can ignore. It's not something we can just sweep under the rug as just another disturbing footnote in a sad election season. Because this was not just a "lewd conversation." This wasn't just locker-room banter. This was a powerful individual speaking freely and openly about sexually predatory behavior, and actually bragging about kissing and groping women, using language so obscene that many of us were worried about our children hearing it when we turn on the TV. And to make matters worse, it now seems very clear that this isn't an isolated incident. It's one of countless examples of how he has treated women his whole life. And I have to tell you that I listen to all of this and I feel it so personally, and I'm sure that many of you do too, particularly the women. The shameful comments about our bodies. The disrespect of our ambitions and intellect. The belief that you can do

anything you want to a woman.

prove themselves, it was never enough.

It is cruel. It's frightening. And the truth is, it hurts. It hurts. It's like that sick, sinking feeling you get when you're walking down the street minding your own business and some guy yells out vulgar words about your body. Or when you see that guy at work that stands just a little too close, stares a little too long, and makes you feel uncomfortable in your own skin.

We thought all of that was ancient history, didn't we? And so many have worked for so many years to end this kind of violence and abuse and disrespect, but here we are in 2016 and we're hearing these exact same things every day on the campaign trail. We are drowning in it. And all of us are doing what women have always done: We're trying to keep our heads above water, just trying to get through it, trying to pretend like this doesn't really bother us maybe because we think that admitting how much it hurts makes us as women look weak.

It's that feeling of terror and violation that too many women have felt when someone has grabbed them, or forced himself on them and they've said no but he didn't listen — something that we know happens on college campuses and countless other places every single day. It reminds us of stories we heard from our mothers and grandmothers about how, back in their day, the boss could say and do whatever he pleased to the women in the office, and even though they worked so hard, jumped over every hurdle to

OMTIMES.COM

And I know it's a campaign, but this isn't about politics. It's about basic human decency. It's about right and wrong. And we simply cannot endure this, or expose our children to this any longer — not for another minute, and let alone for four years. Now is the time for all of us to stand up and say enough is enough. This has got to stop right now.

Because consider this: If all of this is painful to us as grown women, what do you think this is doing to our children? What message are our little girls hearing about who they should look like, how they should act? What lessons are they learning about their value as professionals, as human beings, about their dreams and aspirations? And how is this affecting men and boys in this country? Because I can tell you that the men in my life do not talk about women like this. And I know that my family is not unusual

OMTIMES.COM

And to dismiss this as everyday locker-room talk is an insult to decent men everywhere. The men that you and I know don't treat women this way. They are loving fathers who are sickened by the thought of their daughters being exposed to this kind of vicious language about women. They are husbands and brothers and sons who don't tolerate women being treated and demeaned and disrespected. And like us, these men are worried about the impact this election is having on our boys who are looking for role models of what it means to be a man.

Simply Spiritual To perceive reality from a different perspective is to open oneself to the wonders and unlimited wealth of creation. Simply Spiritual offers the opportunity to visit new places, new methods, and different ways to perceive the vast human knowledge of our Universe.

The Truth in Negativity -Anger as Spiritual Power by Andrea Mathews, NMJ Can Anger Possibly Be a Good Thing? For centuries now, our spiritual teachers have been teaching us that anger is a bad emotion. Most commonly today we are taught that anger has physical,

Omtimes.com

emotional and psychological consequences that none of us want. Anger, according to these teachings, makes us say and do things we regret. It makes us feel socalled “negative feelings” and think so-called “negative thoughts.”

If these extend to the most popular version of the Law of Attraction, they will bring us “negative” life events. Because of these teachings many of us expend considerable energy trying to fight hard against ever feeling any such “negativity.” We do not realize that choice is the final operative--that we may choose to feel and examine anger without acting until we are clear on its message. Therefore, instead, we repress anger and say to ourselves that we will be loving and kind instead of angry-as if anger were the opposite of loving kindness. We do not try to get in touch with our truest feelings; we simply tell ourselves not to feel them, because they are bad.

Anger Helps by Expressing Passion and Emotion What happens when we repress anger is that it goes down into a receptacle of the unconscious to be stored until it finds a channel through

which it can be expressed either subtly or overtly. Anger, like every other emotion, wants to be known, to be understood, to be embraced and to deliver its message completely. Therefore, when we repress it, it never really goes away. It just sits in the wings, waiting for an opportunity to step out on the stage and be seen and heardnot by others, but by us. The truth is that anger, like every other emotion, is just a message to us, for us and about us. It is not meant to be squelched in the name of being good or right. Nor is it meant to grab a hammer with which to beat someone else over the head. It is simply meant to give us a message. That message is as individual as the person who is angry. But the message is meant to facilitate authenticity.

Spirituality is an Inside Job For example, if I tell myself not to be angry when you continuously betray me in

Omtimes.com

ways that could potentially damage my relationship with my boss, I’m essentially neglecting myself. We have been taught that this kind of self-neglect is an act of love to the other person-even though if we are honest, we would have to admit that we are still angry at this other person in spite of our efforts to repress the anger. But at least we are not acting angry. When we start to understand that true spirituality is an inside job, that is when spirituality begins to become authentic. We cannot be authentically spiritual when we are pretending not to feel things we actually feel. We cannot be authentically spiritual when we are denying the realities of the dynamics at play right under our noses. Anger calls us to take care of ourselves in very loving, nurturing ways. When we ignore it, we refuse to do the deep spiritual work of self-care. On the other hand, when we meditate on our anger,

Omtimes.com

allowing it to give us its message, we begin to behave in ways that make clear the meaning of the anger that came into our awareness from its source in soul. We begin to deliberately speak for our truest boundaries. Standing inside of our own souls allows us to be true to self and other simultaneously. We begin to see that anger is a valuable and especially self-loving message. It cuts a path for us to our soul’s home on earth. About the Author Andrea Mathews is a psychotherapist, author, speaker and radio host. She currently teaches workshops to clinicians on how to assess and treat spiritual problems. The Influences of Sounds in Ancient Times Ancient people used sound and music to heal, balance and uplift their worlds. One crucial way was to properly use the sound of one’s name.

Omtimes.com

The sound of one’s name is a constant energy-influence for one’s entire life, because of the sheer number of times it is heard. In ancient times, how one said his name was crucial, as it described his energy to others. They guarded against saying it in combination with negative emotions, as these subtle energies intermingled. They would, however, say their name with love to uplift their subtle energy communication or utter it with the feeling of power to assert their authority.

The Way You Pronounce is Important Reflect on how you say your name. When you introduce yourself, does it sound like a question or a request for approval from others? Is it a warm and inviting sound? Easily we perceive that others react to us all on their own, yet this subtle art allows us to put out a vibratory field in our voice so that others react to us - as we suggest. It is simple; project a feeling when you say your name. That creates a

statement that carries on the sound of your name. The ancient Sumerians took the art of using the sound of one’s name to another level. They converted one’s name to pitches. There were several processes to convert it to music. One system was called Gematria, in which a number was assigned to each letter of the alphabet, and thus letters were converted into numbers. For example, the 25th letter of the alphabet would represent the number 25. Numbers were then used as frequencies. The number 25 correlated to 25 cycles of sound per second or a very low musical note!

Converting Letters into Sounds, Music, and Frequency This converts the letters in one’s name to sound. Ancient people listened to the music of their name and harmonized with this sound. Thus, they accepted their energies, strengths, and weaknesses in a positive and

Omtimes.com

harmonious manner. Many sages believed that pitches, rhythms, and harmonics (vowel sounds create different harmonics) were the building blocks of the energy in one’s name. For example, how fast or slow it is uttered affects it’s feeling. Vowels and consonants bestow specific vibratory benefits. Each vowel sound has a subtle psychological and chemical influence because vibration affects the physical and emotional body. For example, E denotes a subtle feeling of the feminine quality of grace, wisdom, beauty and 12 receptivity; O and U have a masculine quality of power and expression. A has the perfection of both qualities.

Do You Know the Energy in Your Name? What energy is in your name? With intense focus, vowel sounds were correlated to parts in the body that they resonated with. Through sympathetic resonance, these sounds

Omtimes.com

massaged subtle energy in a specific part of the body. In an example, U stimulated the pelvis, hips, legs, feet and lower body in general. O vibrated the lower trunk, abdomen area from solar plexus to groin. A vibrated the chest cavity, heart and the body as a whole. E massaged the throat, upper chest, and head regions. I energized the back of the skull and head regions. The vowel sounds within your name were believed to subtly encourage health in resonant areas of your body. In an interesting application of this, a person could take a nickname, with the energy (sounds) to stimulate body areas that need extra energy. A Happiness Recipe from the 12 Archangels by Belinda J Womack

Omtimes.com

Have You Ever Found a Great Happiness Recipe? What if daily life could be filled with long stretches of happiness and contentment?

What if our human egos could feel confident, satisfied, and safe within our bodies and safe within our environment? And what if we could remember that if we want to create a better future, we need to let go of the disappointment and resentments of our past? The 12 Archangels, celestial healers and guides for humanity, therefore offer us their happiness recipe for the ultimate in daily life here on Earth. Before we gather our ingredients and mixing bowl, we need to prepare the kitchen. The kitchen is a metaphor for the heart. Our heart is a doorway that opens to an incredibly auspicious passageway. This passageway leads us to the bliss of Heaven, a vibration where fear, lack and suffering do not exist. To locate the passageway, it helps to do some releasing of the past. Human beings can have a habit of living in the past, holding onto the hurt and loss of days long

ago. When we let go of what did not bring us joy and give it back to God, we open our hearts and the passageway that connects us with the flow of goodness of Heaven.

Let’s tidy the kitchen with the 12 Archangels! The Angels ask us to close our eyes and take some deep breaths. They encourage us to say, “I give all of my fears that the painful or lack filled days of my past, especially those of my childhood, back to my Creator. I give all my regrets, guilty thoughts, and not-goodenough beliefs to Mother Father God. I now choose to forgive it all and make room in my heart for happiness. The last step of kitchen prep for the happiness recipe is to ground in our bodies. Take a few deep-down-to-the-belly breaths and say, “I Am here now.” We can then invite the child that lives within us to guide us to the drawer with

Omtimes.com

the wooden spoon. This spoon is symbolic of the wand of power of our Divine Masculine and cup of security of our Divine Feminine. Our kitchen is ready, the bowl (our vessel) is prepared and together with the Divine Child within us, we hold firmly to the spoon of creation. With a focused mind, open heart and grounded body, let’s get cooking with the 12 Archangels and make some HAPPY!

Happiness Recipe: Step 1: Go into your heart and visualize a beautiful purple door with a multi-faceted crystal doorknob. Touch the doorknob and watch the light become activated within your mind and entire being. Open the door and step into an exquisitely beautiful garden with emerald green grass and a sky the clear blue color of Spirit. Step 2: Once you are in the garden, look for a circle of 12 great trees. They are

Omtimes.com

magnificent in height and in the color of their foliage. Stand inside the circle of trees and breathe in deeply, way down into your belly. As you exhale, nice and slow, watch as the anxious “what-if-the-future-isnot-what-I-want-it-to-be” dark bits of shadow are purged from your head and body. Step 3: See a soft violet rain begin to fall onto the trees and down into the circle where you are releasing the fear. This is the rain of transformation and forgiveness. It washes away all of the disappointments and thus makes room for something much better to manifest for you. Please see yourself shake off the old misery as if you are a euphoric pup who has had a romp in the gentle, warm rain.

The 12 Archangels Happiness Recipe Continues Step 4: Look up and see a platter of your favorite treat,

the treat you loved most in childhood. It is floating down, gently and lands in your hands. And so, the child within you appears next to you. Together, enjoy the treat and allow the happiness to invade every cell of you with delight and delicious joy. Step 5: See the child within you manifest a hat of tinkling bells for each of you. Smiling activates the soft singing of the bells. The great Angel trees begin to hum and the atoms in your body radiates this joy. Say, “Thank you, Happiness, for filling me. Thank you, Safety, Security and Trust for filling me. Thank you, Prosperity, Good Health, and Loving Relationship for filling me. I AM so grateful to be alive.” Step 6: Dance within the circle of the 12 Archangels and feel the warmth of the Central Sun, the Heart of the Creator, fill you and the child within with faith and euphoric light.

Thus, feed your vessel with the feeling that all is well. All of the Angels and helpers in Heaven thank you for your willingness to step into the kitchen and try out a new happiness recipe. This extraordinary nutrition will support better health for all eternity. It is your birthright as a child of God to live on Earth as you do in Heaven, rich with happiness and faith that your future is a beautiful one. OM Living For those living a more Conscious Lifestyle

Feng Shui: Healing Through Your Environment by Kartar Diamond Are You Happy in Your Environment? The practice of Feng Shui is often referred to as a system for living in “harmony with nature.” For me, this

Omtimes.com

explanation conjures up images of fields and forests, when in fact most of us are living and working indoors. Does this mean you must spend more time outdoors to achieve the kind of balance Feng Shui adherents are referring to? Does this mean that apartment dwellers and workaholics cannot enjoy good Feng Shui? Absolutely not! While it is enviable that some people can spend a lot of time outdoors and luxurious homes are often built in the scenic mountains or at the beach, there is also an unseen, powerful aspect of nature going on right inside your home, right inside every single structure built on this planet. The Chinese call it “chi” and East Indians call it “Prana.”

Our Body Energies Interact with the Physical Environment These energies exist within our

own bodies and they also exist in our surroundings. There is a constant ebb and flow and co-mingling of energies inside our bodies and our immediate physical environment. And that is one reason is why having a wood framed bed could have a different effect on you than a wrought iron bed frame. There is a transferring of energies from one object to another. This is also why a blue room will have a different effect on your body than a yellow room. Everything in your physical environment can affect your body, intellect and emotions. Many people are introduced to Feng Shui through the media. The concept of “chi flow” is under discussion most often. This often boils down to furniture arrangement and architectural features in how they affect invisible air currents within our home or workplace. Several factors determine

Omtimes.com

whether these energy flows are healthful or hurtful.

Examples of Healthier Room Changes For example, we like to arrange a desk so that you can see and sense incoming people into a room. Having your back to a door can be unsettling and the chi flow will be hitting your back. If there is substantial clutter in a room, it will inhibit a healthy circulation of the air currents in the room, eventually resulting in ill health for the occupant. Less known in traditional Feng Shui is how we can alter the magnetic field of a room using raw elements. These elements are water, wood, fire, earth and metal. An example of water is a fountain. Wood can be a live plant. Fire is real fire burning

Omtimes.com

or a large display of red color. Earth is something really made or stone or soil. Metal can be copper, brass, bronze, gold or silver. Our own bodies possess ratios of these five elements as well, with our bones being an example of the earth element.

Elemental Theories in Feng Shui A common misunderstanding about Five-Element-Theory, even amongst Feng Shui enthusiasts, is that you can create balance by representing all these elements together in a room. This is the furthest thing from the truth. As elements, they have both a productive and a destructive relationship with each other. For example, water nurtures wood the way a plant is watered and it grows. This is an example of a productive relationship. However, water can destroy

fire, so they are rarely put together in the same room. And putting all the elements together will cancel out all their affects. So, to learn how to use the elements powerfully and correctly, one must train in the traditional Feng Shui schools in the same way that one studies Chinese medicine over a period of time and with qualified instructors.

Every house is a combination of positive and negative influences, permanent as well as transitory. Therefore, we may call Feng Shui a predictive art, like astrology. The reason for this is because we base some permanent energies on when a structure is built. Other energies come and go with yearly cycles.

Feng Shui Philosophy and Principles

About the Author

In Feng Shui philosophy, we want to live in harmony with our own environment and the good news is that we can control a lot of those energies. Given that there is so much in this world which we cannot control, Feng Shui principles can provide both protection from harmful circumstances as well as ways to enhance areas that are already good, making them even better.

What It Takes to Raise a Teenager by Marcia Sirota, MD

Omtimes.com

Raising a Teenager? Wish There was an App for That? The teenage years can be hard on everyone. The young person is going through so many changes to their body and their psyche; they’re discovering who they

are and what they aspire to in life. Hormones are coursing through their veins, bringing on mood swings, irritability and confusion. They question and challenge almost everything -- most especially authority; they’re resistant at best, defiant at worst, and their favorite mannerism, quite often, is eye-rolling. For parents, the teen years bring a myriad of challenges. Developmentally, teens immerse themselves in the stage of separation and individuation. They learn to become independent young adults with their own hopes, dreams, thoughts, feelings and especially, their own identity. They’re driven to engage in behaviors that are offputting to their parents, if not downright repellent, as an unconscious mechanism to push away the people who might otherwise hold them back from evolving into their true selves.

No Need to Let Confusion Rule or Be Fearful Good parents want the best for their teens and want to bring out the best in them. But, in this day and age, with so many conflicting opinions going around about how to nurture our older children, parents are often left as confused as their teens over how best to love, value and protect these young people. Often, parents go to one extreme -- lenience and overindulgence; spoiling and enabling, or to the other -- bubble-wrapping their kids; hovering over them incessantly, not letting them do anything on their own for fear that their teenager will get hurt or make a mistake. Like in any relationship, balance is key. Teens, like all kids, need to feel cherished and safe. But more than any other kids, it’s essential that they feel acknowledged,

Omtimes.com

respected, understood and supported in their autonomy. The parents’ role is to make sure that the consequences to their teen aren’t so severe that there’s no coming back. Letting teens do whatever they want without guidance or limits is a sure recipe for disaster, especially when we’re dealing with youth whose surging hormones are upping their quotient of impulsiveness and risk-taking behavior. On the other hand, severely restricting a teen’s activities or associations is likely to cause a backlash of obvious or subtle acting out, or it can create a young person who’s tormented by inner conflicts. Parents need to walk that fine line between allowing their teens to fail and make mistakes, so that they can learn from these experiences, and keeping them from being selfdestructive or self-defeating. It’s important that teens see that

Omtimes.com

their actions have consequences and learn from their own experiences what works for them and what doesn’t work. The parents’ role is to make sure that the consequences to their teen aren’t so severe that there’s no coming back. Parents have to realize that the teen is a person in her own right. She won’t necessarily share the same goals, dreams or lifestyle choices as her parents. The parents might be Conservative and Christian; the teen might be Liberal and Wiccan. Parents shouldn’t judge their teen for being different; they must respect her choice to be who she wants to be, or at least allow their teen to explore the options. The parents’ role isn’t to tell their teen which career path to follow or lifestyle to choose, but to help him in thinking through his choices so that they’re the best ones he can make. The parents’ role is to

keep their teen safe by making sure he really gets to know the people he’s hanging out with or dating. They can reassure that the people he’s spending time with care about him and want the best for him. Parents need to help their teen to think through their goals and aspirations. They can support their teen in pursuing the various avenues that are the most positive and appropriate for them. It’s about mentoring more than controlling; guiding rather than coercing.

Unconditional Love Goes a Long Way Loving, valuing and protecting our teenager isn’t about giving them so much rope that they can tie themselves up into knots; nor is it about smothering them so much that their creativity, ingenuity and passions are extinguished. It’s about having a non-judgmental attitude and encouraging our teen to explore the things that matter to them, while ensuring that

the teen makes well-thoughtout choices. Ensuring the teen’s safety has more to do with keeping an eye on the activities and people that the teen is involved with and less to do with issues of identity, goals or lifestyle choices. With unconditional love, clear expectations and appropriate guidance from their parents, a teen can develop into a happy, healthy successful adult. It’s not easy to be the parent of a teen, but ultimately, it can be tremendously rewarding. Three Steps to Becoming the Great White Light by Dr. Paul Haider

How Can We See the Great White Light? We come into this world seeing divinity ‘out there somewhere.’ As we progress through towards enlightenment, we make some amazing changes. In seeking the Great White Light of our spirituality, it becomes evident Omtimes.com

that we are much closer to it than we thought. Consider these three steps of awareness as our divine senses expand.

1. I Stand Near the Light When we are born, we feel we are totally separate from the light. We sense that God, the Universe, and Great Spirit are out there somewhere and we are really not included in that great vastness. And when we feel down, we go looking for Great Spirit, the Great White Light, to connect and spend time basking in the rays of that which is omnipresent. But most of the time, we sense we remain incomplete; we feel disconnected from divinity. Thus, many of us only turn to the Great Spirit when we have challenges of some kind in our life. Sometimes, we long to hear the word come to us. However, all we hear is either silence or static, because we have too much chatter going on in our mind.

2. The Light Resides Within Me Next, we have a great

vibratory expansion that takes place. This leads us to understand that what we call the light is not ‘out there,’ but lives within. This usually happens because we have been meditating, perhaps going out into nature, and have done countless hours of contemplation. Thus, we start to have greater reverence for all that exists, because we know “We are One with Everything”. Before this realization, we felt separate from creation. Now, we are connected to all sentient beings, every rock, every flower, and everything else. Plus, we understand that everything has a special vibration. We grasp that everything is alive, and everything has consciousness. And so our place of worship becomes nature itself, as we bask in the vastness of creation.

3. I Am the Light Later, we have a powerful expansion of vibration that takes place. This bursts forth from our chakras. Because of

Omtimes.com

this internal connection, we finally understand that the light that we thought lived ‘out there,’ is within us. It does not just reside there, but also that we ‘are’ that light. This Great White Light is the energetic essence of everything and everyone. Thus, we finally ‘become’ the very Great White Light that we seek. We are the words, “I am that I am.” In doing so, we no longer look outward, only inward, for answers of any kind. Because we embody the light, we also find the answers to the spiritual knowledge we seek. This is what the great mystics of the world mean when they talk about the Great or Cosmic Awakening. It is this expansion of spirit that travels through the multiverse to the point of infinity and back to us.

Getting to the Point of Spiritual Realization Some people come to our world fully realized as the “I am,” persons such as Jesus, Buddha, and Krishna and

Omtimes.com

many more avatars. Others come to this world knowing the light resides within them. They go on to become great healers and people who make a difference in the world. The majority of us slowly progress from one stage to the next. Eventually, everyone reaches this pinnacle of amazing acceptance and truth. Beyond understanding, knowledge, and grace, the Great White Light connects when we let go and know that everything is as it should be. Thus, we see the good in all things, and like a moth to a flame, each of us who gathers around the Great White Light are healed. It is Universal: The Law of Rhythm by Diane Wing, M.A.

Universal Law allows us to experience a deeper connection with the Divine and to become part of its very nature. The Law of Rhythm is one that creates acceptance of timing, that is, everything happens in its own time. Our impatience

Omtimes.com

with Universal timing gives a tendency to force things to happen sooner than they are supposed to. Recognizing that there is an ebb and flow, a rise and fall, and a pendulum swing back and forth is the essence of this Law. Timing is one of the most important aspects of living the magickal life. It requires two parts: sensing the flow of energy and using magickal timing such as seasons, time of day, days of the week, and astrological energies. Additionally, understanding that everything happens in its own time is essential to cultivating patience when attempting to manifest your desires. You decide the what; The Universe decides the when. That said, it is possible to tap into the natural flow of the energy around you to support your efforts. The moon cycle is a good place to begin. Especially on the new moon, when the energy is ripe for starting new projects. The waxing moon is a time for building power toward fulfillment, and the full moon

is a time for completion and manifestation. The waning moon is a time for clearing, banishing, and removing. Start matching your activity against the moon phases and see if there is alignment. If not, does it feel as though you are going against the natural rhythm, and it is much harder to complete certain tasks? Try scheduling your personal activities to coincide with the supportive energies of the nature phases. Onto the seasons, where autumn is a time for preparations, harvest, and setting intentions, winter is a time to withdraw, go within, and study. Spring is a time of new beginnings, and summer is the season of fulfillment. If you want to begin a large, important project, spring during the new moon or first quarter will give the biggest boost to starting something new. A client of mine found that she had a powerful urge to reorganize and purge her home at fairly regular intervals. We traced the timing

Omtimes.com

of this activity against the moon phases and found that it always occurred when the seasons changed during the waning moon; a prime time to remove old energies and objects from her personal space. She had tapped into the moon cycle and seasonal vibrations without realizing that nature was supporting her actions. This resulted in a much easier go of the project than would have occurred if she had chosen to clear out during the waxing moon. Planetary energies associate with days of the week, hours of the day, and astrological timing. Each planetary energy carries with it an essence all its own. The days of the week are associated with one of the seven planetary energies. Here are the basic meanings as follows: Sunday-Sun-Power, success, confidence Monday-Moon-Change, intuition, emotions, delusion, pregnancy Tuesday- Mars-Strength, willpower, drive, ambition Wednesday-Mercury-Wisdom, communication, thinking,

Omtimes.com

Thursday-Jupiter-Expansion, benevolence, optimism, wealth, justice Friday-Venus-Love, artistry, money Saturday-Saturn-Restriction, career, responsibility, endings. Be mindful of these energies and see if you can connect with them on a regular basis. In addition to the natural rhythms, we have our own internal, personal rhythms. These must be acknowledged and included when determining the next course of action. Notice within a 24-hour period when you feel brightest versus when your energy wanes. Those who are morning people get the most accomplished before midday, some feel most inspired in the afternoon, and still others thrive in the darker hours. If you find yourself at a job that goes against your natural rhythm, then you will likely struggle to maintain the required schedule. Seek a vocation that allows you to work within your true nature and

natural energy cycle. Moving in rhythm with our own natural cycles in conjunction with nature’s rhythms is essential for the greatest energetic impact. Internal cycles are present as well with hormonal cycles changing daily and monthly, for both men and women. Astrological cycles can enhance or diminish your energy and motivation. They may incline you toward a specific goal or desire. Those not in step with these cycles or who are unaware of them experience a sense of disconnect with the energy around them. An example of this includes Seasonal Affective Disorder. This is where sufferers feel depressed in the winter when the sun is farthest from the earth. Having mood swings or getting urges to do things seemingly for no reason have a high likelihood of being connected to these internal and external cycles. If you feel out of sorts, consider if you are currently going against the natural or personal rhythms. Trying

to push forward despite indications that the energies are running the other direction creates the feeling of hitting a wall or spinning your wheels. Wait until the timing is right to move ahead. In the meantime, prepare for the moment when the rhythms support advancing your position. By fully aligning with the natural rhythms of the Universe and being aware of your personal rhythms, things flow more easily and life feels more peaceful. Š2016 Diane Wing, M.A., All Rights Reserved. Gratitude is an Attitude by Kara Johnstad

Everyone is Talking about Gratitude Everyone is talking about the new attitude of gratitude and this is very cool. For if you practice gratitude, the universe will pour down its multitude of blessings and everything is in harmony. Adding a quick “Thanks, Love Omtimes.com

while flying out the kitchen door for a meeting, seems easy to come by when things are going well, and life is delivering all of your dreams in big bright boxes wrapped with bows and flows of red and golden ribbons. When your health is well, and you manage to find avocados

that are ripe for that big green salad in winter, then it is easy to practice the attitude of gratitude. As when you are able to whistle a happy tune while hanging the wash and there is no minus below rain falling while walking the dog, then gratitude is a breeze.

gratitude doing, when those few extra pounds you carry around your hips, simply refuses to melt even though you switched your diet to raw kale salads with lemon dressing and take the long daily walk?

But what does it take to have a heart full of gratitude when life actually presents itself topsy-turvy from what we think it should be?

Yes, where is gratitude when an unexpected bill flies in and lands right on the kitchen counter to glare at you for several days until you have mercy and throw it on the pile of bills and letters that you promised yourself to finally take care of on the weekend? The very weekend, which you had actually set aside to go to that yoga class or and spend quality times with the kids.

Gratitude, Even in the Most Difficult of Times

Finding and Feeling the Meaning of Gratitude

What happens to your breathing patterns and calmness? When you did everything according to those lovely “Ten Minutes a Day to Happiness and Success!” self-improvement books, instead of gratitude you found the fastest route to being overwhelmed?

It is easy to be grateful when all is going brilliantly well. But, can gratitude walk at your side each day? Will it accompany you even when you get caught in a rainstorm without an umbrella?

When all is well and in the balance, gratitude flows naturally through us. In these moments, gratitude seems like a breeze - “Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.”

How is your attitude of

Do you react to old patterns or swiftly respond to those moments with flexible strategies that won’t Omtimes.com

accelerate your breath, but keep you relaxed in the here and now? Will you remember putting it all into the greater perspective while keeping a skip in your gait and that big wide smile on your face?

I asked the kids to whip out a piece of paper and simply list 10 things that they had learned and mastered in their short lives and then waited patiently as I heard the sounds of pencils scribbling on paper:

So, while trying to explain to a classroom of young German kids the word gratitude recently, I found myself saying: “Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle and being aware, day in and day out, how much you’ve been given. Gratitude is a gift because it shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance and the beauty of all that is already present.

“Riding a bike,” “learning how to write,” “learning how to read,” “I play piano,” a little boy added, and “I play snare drum,” a little girl smiled back. “I garden with my Grandma,” “I know how to make no-bake cookies using corn flakes and melted chocolate,” “I know how to use a computer,” “I can run,” “I am learning Karate, and oh, last week I went bowling and got a strike!”

This Thanksgiving: Growing Our Gratitude List And lucky us, meantime it has been proven that giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient. It makes relationships stronger and our health better. And yes, it reduces STRESS. Omtimes.com

The Importance of Counting Our Blessings The kids were ecstatic, and their list kept growing. They learned and experienced so much fun at only ten years old, and mastered so many wonderful things. They bounced out of the class, and I knew that this Thanksgiving Day I will have a beautiful paper at hand and lots of colored pencils and felt tip pens.

Why not try it for yourself? As far as I am concerned, I’m happy as a lark to have my first pair of reading glasses and chuckle. Yes, I am starting to look quite distinguished as I write.

Taking on an “Attitude for Gratitude” makes each day a joy to live and slips us back into that deep flow of gratitude and abundance and high creativity that we do adore.

Yes, I learned many lessons these last years. I learned truly that we sometimes see the brightest stars only on the darkest nights. Some of the most difficult times may carry powerful gifts for us to receive. I learned that the attitude of gratitude is 24/7.

“If the only prayer you say in your life is ‘thank you,’ that would suffice.” --Meister Eckhart

Find Joy in the Smallest Things How easy it is to take for granted the good that is already present in our lives. Finding joy in the small things instead of holding out for big achievement was what did the gratitude trick. Now, every morning, I light candles and incense and take the time to tune into my heart. I listen to my inner voice and give thanks for all the blessings that abound. “Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.” --Kahlil Gibran

This month is Thanksgiving. Even though I live in Europe, this is the one holiday I insist on celebrating. It refocuses me on remembering all that I have and in which abundance I truly do live. Giving thanks focuses me on re-shifting and re-sensing where I am at. It brings me back into a space of joy and overflow and deep gratitude as I go into the quieter, more reflective spaces of winter and preparation for a new year to come.

World Vision

The World of Action Versus Spirituality by Debbie Peluso “East and West must establish a golden middle path of activity and spirituality combined.” –Paramahansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi What can we glean from these words? Does this literally mean the Eastern portion of the World versus

Omtimes.com

that of the West? Well, we can look to the history of some Eastern cultures, (India, as an example), and though filled with exquisite art, poetry and spiritual wisdom, from an economic and structural standpoint, there has been less progress. Yet, if we look to Western cultures, whether one agrees with its practices or not, you see economic and technological growth, scientific progress, but a loss of integrity, morality and faithfulness. The West is the world of action, and the East is that of spiritual wisdom and receptivity. But what if we take this a step further? Is this a perfect example of the functionality of our right- and leftbrain hemispheres? Is the World and its continents a physical representation of our consciousness? The right brain represents our creativity, imagination,

holistic thinking, intuition, arts, emotions, faithfulness among other things. All those wonderful characteristics so common of the East and so graciously imparted to the West. Our left brain is our world of action, logic, analysis, language, sequencing and linear thinking. Characteristics of the West and its concern with external evolutions; action versus intuitiveness. We see this in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (symbolic of the body), as well. The right side of the Tree is receptive, expansive, compassionate. Though superimposed it is the left-hand side of the body, it represents the right-brain hemisphere, and vice-versa with the left pillar, which is action, restrictive and linear. The middle pillar is associated with integration, holism and balance. So how do we achieve the balance, and what is the

Omtimes.com

effect of non-integration personally and culturally? Yoga, meditation, kundalini yoga are practices for creating union between our two major nervous systems, the parasympathetic (PSNS) and the sympathetic (SNS). PSNS controls our at-rest functions such as our heart rate, our intestinal functions. The SNS is active and controls our “fight or flight” responses. When the parasympathetic system drives us, we can become lethargic and so blissful that we ultimately succumb to isolation or even depression. We can become so obsessed with the state of “being” that we forget to “do.” Again, we see the analogy of East and West from a physical perspective, the spiritual/receptive versus externally-driven action. But what about when we experience psychological states, such as peace, unity, or grace? Where

Omtimes.com

does this reside? There are some that claim there is a “God-spot” in our brains. Neuroscientists disprove this with studies using electroencephalography on the effects of meditation, spirituality and our feelings of compassion. They discovered all parts of the brain light up when engaged in spiritual and artistic endeavors. All parts of the brain link together. It is just certain parts play a more dominant role. However, from a consciousness level, is this God-spot the CPU of all our actions, emotions and pilot of our functionality? So what stands in the way of the integration of our physical and spiritual worlds (right- and left-brain hemispheres; our East and West?) Is it our ego, illusions, or maybe we are just not emotionally evolved enough to handle living in both realms? It can take a lot of courage to confront the idea that our ego does not

dominate. Is it part of our living in the West, the world of left-brained activity, versus living in the East, our rightbrain receptivity? To live more harmoniously and successfully, one cannot take dominion over the other. We must find ways to integrate. We can do so by engaging in mindfulness meditation in order to clear our minds and allow releasing of the less dominant right brain. As the Beatles so wisely put it, “Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dying. The goal for our consciousness evolution and for successful living in a world that we are so blessed to be a part of is the merging of spirituality and action, as Paramahansa Yogananda so lovingly taught. Imagine the miracles we could create collectively as a culture and personally if we were to merge Eastern philosophy and Western civilization, and vice versa. Could we eradicate suffering in pov-

erty-stricken cultures? Could we re-introduce diplomacy, morality, compassion, respect, and love for all mankind in a culture so consumed with materialism, celebrities and status, financially and egotistically? Can East and West merge to eventually create a world with less suffering and pain? In the face of all these questions, many people believe: Yes! About the Author Debbie Peluso obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Metaphysics in association with the University of Sedona in Arizona. She is a certified practitioner in meditation, metaphysical/ spiritual counseling, and is a working astrologer and coowner of Zion Yoga Studio in the Washington, D.C. area.
