Dr. Cassandra
Ohlsen: Enlightened Eating Interview by Lisa Berry Would you change your relationship with Food to save your health and our Environment?
Omtimes.com
Lisa Berry: I was gifted and able to read this book called Enlightened Eating, and I’ll tell you, it was a bit of a scary start at first, for usually when we ask for there to be light shed on something, a subject, we don’t always know what that’s gonna be. We don’t know what’s going to be revealed. So, I am so happy to bring on Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen, and she is the author of Enlightened Eating. And the beautiful subtitle to that is The Eightfold Path to Health, and it truly is. I want to share a little bit about Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen with you. She’s an MD, and she’s a diplomat certified in internal medicine. She received her medical degree from Keck School of Medicine at USC. Dr. Ohlsen has practiced medicine for 25+ years and has lived and practiced in the Monterey area for 20. Her dedication to global health led her to Africa and India, where she worked with Mother Teresa at her Home for Dying Destitute and her children’s home in Calcutta. Before Monterey, she had a medical practice in Pasadena, CA and taught “The Art of Being
a Doctor” at USC School of Medicine. Dr. Ohlsen also cared for the medically underserved at a Los Angeles clinic helping to rebuild community health after the Watts riots So, Enlightened Eating is her first book, and I’m just so happy to welcome you, Dr. Ohlsen. Thank you so much for sharing this time with us. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Oh, thank you so much, Lisa. Lisa Berry: Aw. You know, I was--I really--I started the book, and I thought, ooh, I can’t wait, Enlightened Eating, I love plantbased diets and a way of having monk philosophy. But then, you started talking about the reality of food and where it came from and came from. And you really do shed light on a very difficult for so many levels, we have to have that light shed on these things. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yes, it’s true, it’s true. You know, Enlightened Eating is about changing your health by changing how you eat, and it also changes how you think and acts with regards to Omtimes.com
food. It really transforms your relationship with food from the inside out. I see patients every day that can be helped by changes in their diet. And one of the people that comes to mind is my patient named Butch who has a history of heart disease. He actually had to have bypass heart surgery. And then a few years after the bypass surgery, he had a heart attack.
And he and his wife changed their diet completely to plantbased, no oil eating. And he went back to get his second stint in a few months later, and he didn’t need it. Then years later he stuck with this plantbased diet, he went and had his arteries checked and the graphs from his bypass checked, and they were more open years later than they were when they were installed. Lisa Berry: It’s like anti-aging.
He was having a stint put in, and his heart stopped. They revived him, and obviously didn’t put the second stint in, let him go home and told him to come back in a couple of months to put the second stint in. Right after that, he became my patient, and we talked about how he felt such despair because he really didn’t think he could take care of himself. He was waiting for that next heart attack to happen. And when I talked to him about plantbased eating and how plantbased, no oil eating, especially for someone with severe heart disease really helps take control of your future, he felt hopeful.
Omtimes.com
Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Antiaging. So, he was able to take control of his health by doing that, and some so many people could benefit from plant-based eating. Lisa Berry: I love that you said in that story there with Butch is that he was waiting for the next heart attack and that he didn’t think he could do it. And I think that’s where a lot of people even get stuck in the first place. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yes. And that’s one of the reasons that I have the Buddhist psychology in the book because people don’t know how to change. And the Buddhist
psychology allows you to change without feeling guilty, without feeling shame. It’s very simple. It’s very direct and objective. And so, what you do is you first identify the issue that you want to work on. You identify the problem. Maybe you want to lose weight. Maybe you want to lower your cholesterol. Maybe you want to handle your blood sugar. Then you identify what got you to that place. Were you overeating? Are you eating too many sweets? Are you not exercising? Then once you figure out the causes, you start to eliminate the causes, either incrementally or all at once. And then you start to live with the solution, and you start to question yourself about your own thoughts and what’s helping you and what’s not helping you. So, you would want to encourage thoughts that would help you accomplish the goals that you want. One of my patients is a diabetic, and she really had a scare. She had to be put in the hospital for very, very high blood sugar. And before, she was kind of
casual about it. If she went to a birthday party, she would have cake. But, this time, after that hospitalization, she realized her goal was to be healthy and not to eat that piece of birthday cake. That birthday cake didn’t contribute to her long-term goal of being healthy. And so, for the first time at a birthday party, she skipped the birthday cake, and she didn’t feel deprived. She felt good about it because she knew she was working toward her longterm goal of health. Lisa Berry: The reward wasn’t the taste of the cake or the cake. It was the step closer to the goal. What I kind of got from what you’re saying is that when we actually focus on the goal, that goal almost gives us the fuel and the power behind us like, no, I’ve got to dig and find out who is responsible. Oh, my gosh, it’s me, and I have to do something. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Exactly, exactly, you’re exactly right. I mean, problems don’t solve themselves. And, you know, first, we have got to put some thought into it and realize that Omtimes.com
we’re the ones responsible. We can stay the way we are, or we can make our lives better. Lisa Berry: I wanted to ask you; so, say we have our goal, and now we’re really taking responsibility, we’re making choices, and then, oops, we fall, we do something that we didn’t, abide by our choices. But by following the Buddhist philosophy, there is no shame or guilt involved. Why is that? How do we do that? How do we remove that guilt and shame? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: I think because when you look at the issue objectively, you’re working toward this long-term goal. It’s not gonna be perfect. You are gonna make mistakes. You’re not gonna always do everything that’s right. But, your trajectory is good. You know, your final goal is good. And once you start eating healthier, once you stop eating fast food and processed food, unhealthy food, your thinking changes. It takes a few months, but your thinking changes about food and about yourself and about what you can and cannot Omtimes.com
do. And it propels you to be able to do better for yourself. That’s what the eightfold path to health is about. It’s about talking with yourself and using all these positive reinforcements. So, you talked yourself out of doing that and talked yourself into doing something that was healthy. And you can use your thoughts, your actions, your effort, your awareness to do that. Lisa Berry: One thing that you did write, and I want to say this is that it’s about the word waste, wasting, wasting life force and wasting food and energy and things like that. And when I read that Americans waste 30 percent of all edible food produced, bought and sold in the country, that’s one way of looking at it. But, then you reduced it further, and you said the average American wastes 1,400 calories a day or about two full meals. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Right. And, you know, we do throw away a lot of food. We throw away a lot of food. And there are 1 billion people in the world that are hungry and
starving. And, when we eat animal products rather than plant-based products, the grain is diverted. Grain is diverted to feed animals rather than growing to feed people. And so, by eating plant-based, you can work against that. You don’t have to be a part of that. You know, if one swaps out peanut butter and jelly sandwich for a hamburger, you can save 24 feet of rainforest from being destroyed to grow food for cattle. You can save 130 gallons of water and 2.5 pounds of carbon dioxide with one peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Lisa Berry: That’s incredible, oh, my gosh. And I’m very aware of how we are wasting in this world and how we can save; it’s shocking how much can be saved by small changes. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yes. And, you know, that’s the thing is when you eat plant-based when you eat more vegetables, fruits, grains, you’re not only helping yourself, but you’re helping the world around you. So, you’re not participating in the climate change, you’re not
participating in the killing of animals for food. Americans eat 1 million animals an hour, 1 million animals an hour. So, when you eat plant-based, you’re not participating in that. You’re not participating in world hunger. These little changes ripple out and have such a profound effect. Lisa Berry: You know, that’s profound, I think that was the big one. And, I love that you also wrote ostensibly about it and that it’s not always about even a spiritual commitment. But I confess, I don’t like a million animals eaten every hour, killed every hour. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: So, when you eat more vegetarian or vegan, you feel lighter. You know, you have more energy. And not only that, you know, The China Study is a book that studied the relationship between diet and cancer. And so, what they found was animal proteins, animal fats and casing, which is the protein in milk, increased tumor production and increased cancer risk. And conversely, not eating that stuff lowers cancer risk, lowers tumor production. Omtimes.com
The person you’re talking about in Enlightened Eating is Bob, and Bob became plant--a plantbased eater 30 years ago to try to overcome a family history of heart disease and illness. And he did not want that history that his family members had. He understood that food trumps genetics. Food is more important than genetics. Plant-based food encourages telomerase, which is an enzyme that increases your lifespan. So, eating plant-based increases your lifespan. Lisa Berry: That is shocking. And I was lucky enough to have read The China Study and watched the documentary that was made with, Forks Over Knives, which by the way, did not know that was about that until I was in like going, gosh, I feel like I’ve seen this before. And so, they were very helpful. Telomerase. If you don’t ever hear the word, you only read it, you never know how to say that. And literally, this is so shocking to me because there are so many diets out there that say, no, no, no, you know what, cut out all the carbs, and they’re thinking starches and plantOmtimes.com
based things like this, and really go heavy on the meat, not just dairy but like actual meat consumption. But, yet, when we stay away from the meat and the dairy and animal products or foods that we extend the very structure of our bodies and our lives. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Exactly. It takes three months, and within three months, you have extended your lifespan. Lisa Berry: Oh, ooh. I can do it for three months. That’s manageable. How do you-what’s the first thing you tell them to kind of ease their mind? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: So, it depends on why they need a plant-based diet. If someone comes in, and they’re overweight, and they want to lose weight, I don’t encourage them to eat a lot of grains. I encourage them to eat more vegetables and fruit and legumes and eat a small number of grains. If someone doesn’t have a weight problem, then I encourage more grains. But, the basics are gonna be the
vegetables, the legumes, and the fruit. In Enlightened Eating, Butch’s wife Darlene talks about, after she had been doing this plantbased eating--and for Butch, no fat, you know, no fat eating, she noticed that her attitude towards food had changed. She didn’t want the things that she had wanted before. The cravings for various foods disappear. And that’s what people find because the foods that are addictive, like the foods that are high sugar, high fat, high salt, you’re not really eating those foods anymore. And so, the desire for them drops completely. And as you stay on plant-based eating, what you want to eat is healthy, nutritious, whole foods. Everything changes. Lisa Berry: Yeah, and that’s where the enlightened part comes about, you actually do feel enlightened. You can see clearer, and you can move when you have the energy, and you’re not so tired. And one thing I really highlighted on one particular part of your book was the bringing up of feeling
isolated when now you eat so differently than anyone else, and it’s socially challenging. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: You know, I feel so good about what I eat. I just feel blessed no matter where I go because I know I’m doing the very best that I can do for my body, for my health, for my future, and for the world. And so, I do not feel deprived in any way. And if I go to a restaurant, I can always figure out something on the menu. You know, I can either get a no cheese, no sour cream tostada, I could get a tofu vegetable dish, I could get pasta with tomato sauce, I could get a big salad. I mean, I want to have a good healthy life. Lisa Berry: If you could you help explain what is high cholesterol, bad cholesterol, and what does that have to do with plant-based eating and meateating or animal eating? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: So, there’s been a level determined for healthy cholesterol. Depending on what you read, if you have total cholesterol of 150 or lower and you have bad cholesterol of 80 or lower, Omtimes.com
you will not deposit cholesterol in your arteries. Now, when you eat a lot of fat when you eat animal products, there’s saturated fat in those. So, cholesterol only comes from animal products, and that cholesterol that you eat can get deposited in your arteries. So, once it gets deposited in your arteries, it narrows your arteries. So, it increases the blood flow so that it can give you high blood pressure. When it narrows enough, you could form a blood clot, you could either have a heart attack or you could have a stroke. So, what you’re trying to do with plant-based eating is lower the cholesterol to a healthy level. The other thing plant-based eating does is it decreases inflammation. Inflammation works against you regarding increased risk for stroke and heart attack because it affects the lining of the blood vessels and makes them kind of more sticky. And so, eating a plant based in the opposite. It lowers inflammation. Over a period of time of eating plant-based, the Omtimes.com
plaque can actually regress. So, you could do good for yourself. Even if you’ve eaten animal products most of your life, once you make the switch and you stick with it, the plague in your arteries can regress. Lisa Berry: Telomerase is literally the anti-aging again here. We are literally shrinking the plague and not just stopping it from forming and building up. And inflammation’s huge with all things. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: I mean, the change in the diet helps everything. So, if they’re on prescription medication, what may very well happen is they may need less medication. So, say they’re diabetic and they start eating plant-based, and they lose weight, and they stop eating all that sugar, then very likely, they’re gonna need less medication. And some people will even need no medication. Some people will need cholesterol-lowering medication in addition to eating plant-based. There have been studies that have shown that if you eat
plant-based, you decrease that rate of inflammation. And even if you’re on cholesterollowering medication and you get normal cholesterol, if you’re still eating animal products, the inflammation is still there. So, the plant-based eating really does so much good for you. Lisa Berry: I need to highlight that again because I remember reading that. How do we know which of us can do a lot of nuts and seeds and oils and who of us should not be doing them? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: So, there’s really no nutritional value to oils. Lisa Berry: No omega? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: You’re much better off to get a good fat from saying avocado or walnuts or flaxseed, flax meal because if you can minimize oils. First of all, it’s a lot of calories, and it’s really to make food more palatable. So, you use the smallest amount possible if you need it on a salad or if you need to cook with it, and you try to maximize the good fats from these other foods that I mentioned.
Some people feel fine on seeds and nuts. Other people feel heavy. You know, they just feel the nuts are a vegetable fat, but they can make some people just feel too full. So, they may not eat those. People with heart disease and people with diabetes should be eating a very, very lowfat diet. If you have diabetes, one of the studies that have been done shows that it’s very hard for insulin to work properly with a lot of fat in the diet. It prevents the insulin from getting into the muscle cells. And so, they’ve found that if you eat a really lowfat diet with diabetes, you can eat plenty of complex carbohydrates, but your blood sugar will go down. And a plant-based diet is three times as effective as the ADA diet, the diabetic diet that’s talked about. Lisa Berry: I’m really happy that you made that distinguishing factor between complex carbs and fats. Because back in the day, probably 20 years ago when I was teaching nutrition, it was, okay. Omtimes.com
Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Right. Lisa Berry: What about coconut oil because I just love my coconut oil? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: I know, I know. The problem with coconut oil is its 90 percent saturated fat. So, saturated fat means it’s like animal fat, but it’s really a vegetable. So, it’s one of the very few products that are not an animal that behaves like an animal. So, palm oil and coconut oil have this high amount of saturated fat. So, really, it’s good to apply to your skin, but it’s not good to eat. So, canola oil is about 5 percent saturated fat, olive oil is about 14 percent saturated fat, and coconut oil is about 90 percent saturated fat. So, coconut oil is more like the good lard. Lisa Berry: Right, it kind of looks like it, too. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yeah. So, there’s a lot of misinformation about coconut oil. I mean,
Omtimes.com
the marketing is misleading, quite misleading. Lisa Berry: I think everybody, you have to listen to your body and really, as you said right at the beginning, have the conversation with yourself what are your choices, what are your goals, how do you feel. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yeah. So, you know, that would do you want to lose weight, do you want to stop smoking, do you want to eat a salad every day. I mean, it’s such a wide variety. But, you name what you want to change. Lisa Berry: I would love for you because you have had some incredible life experiences. Like, to be able to go to Africa and go to India, and just if you, I would love to hear just the differences in diets and foods and thoughts and everything. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Well, there’s a lot of plant-based eating in of course both India and Africa. It’s--food is not as plentiful, and so people there eat a lot fewer calories. I mean,
I’ve seen people eating like one avocado in an entire day. The children at Mother Teresa’s children’s home don’t have as much food as we have in here. Yet I could say, they have more love. And so, you know, it’s difficult to compare. It’s very difficult to compare. Lisa Berry: It’s not better or worse. It’s just different. Enlightened Eating--first of all, what made you think of that title? Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: I thought about Enlightened Eating because I was thinking, when you’re enlightened, you see things as they really are, that you’re, you know, you’re wise, you’re compassionate. And so, I thought that way you would know that you’re eating classically, never have to change how you eat if you’re eating plant-based, that you’ll be thinner, you’ll be wiser, you’ll be healthier. And that’s where that came from. Lisa Berry: I love that you said
that’s classic because you’re right, it’s timeless, it doesn’t have to change. It’s not a fad. It’s not a diet. Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen: Yes, that’s exactly right. It’s a classical way of eating. I mean, I would say that it’s impossible to separate what we eat from how healthy we are, that what we eat affects our health and the health of the world around us. And when you eat plant-based, even if it’s not 100 percent plant-based, your part of the solution and not part of the problem. Lisa Berry: Wow, I love that. That was so beautifully said, we cannot separate it. And if you’re thinking I would like to see some changes in your health, and you’re drawn to this, you feel a little bit enlightened, I would just invite you to go find Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen on Facebook, pick up her book Enlightened Eating, follow her there on Facebook because she just offers so many tips and everything.

Is your mind spinning out of control? Do th is ex erc ise. By John Holland
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you beating yourself up because you’re not doing what you said you would do for this year? Are you overloaded at work so much, that you don’t have time for yourself? Omtimes.com
Is your mind running, running, running with negative thoughts, which can so quickly become selfdestructive? If this sounds familiar or resonates with you right now – then ask yourself: “When was the last time I checked in with myself?” I bet it’s been quite a while! STOP right now and read the rest of this newsletter! Firstly, it’s important to realize that your soul has been trying to get your attention – possibly for a long time! As a psychic and a medium, I believe that most of the drama in our lives manifests when we don’t live by our innerguidance. Your soul knows what it wants and what it needs. If you’re not in alignment with it, then your life can easily become offbalanced, and the outside world then manifests what’s happening on the inside. Equally, there will be times in your life when your soul is screaming out to you. You know the times when the thoughts resound loudly in your head: “What am I doing?” or “I really should get a grip on my life!” or “I can’t keep living this way!” When you find yourself asking these questions,
it’s usually during a particularly busy, emotional, or traumatic time in your life. This is a big clue that your soul is trying to reach out to you. I call these moments: Soul Cry Outs. Your soul is yelling at you saying: “Hey! I am here, and you haven’t paid any attention to me at all lately. I can help!” At times like this, it will send clear signals to your psychic and physical senses depositing markers along the way, even in your dreams. Don’t ignore these, please! The power of the soul has no boundaries, and I even believe that meeting a stranger who somehow brings with them hidden messages is not an accident. Your inner-guidance can bring up a thought, an action, or even manifest a situation in your outside life to get you to STOP and think of what’s happening in front of you. Next time this happens, and you’re faced with a decision or choice, try asking yourself: “What would my soul want me to do?” In today’s society, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-today routine, adopting the same schedule every day, over and over, without ever stopping to think of anything else. We pull away Omtimes.com
from the source that infuses our soul, which only exacerbates the feeling of being constantly tired, drained or confused. It’s easy to become immersed in your work or taking a moment to care for someone who’s sick or deal with family issues. Sometimes though, you have to force yourself to check-in and re-connect with that source for its power, wisdom, and guidance. Don’t forget … you’re the driver. It’s up to you to put the brakes on or press the pause button and say: “I am listening and I am open. JOHN’S LESSON Intuition flows on the breath. It’s also filled with the universal energy that enhances your overall well-being. For this quick exercise, just close your eyes and breathe deeply. Relax, and let your awareness bring you back into your body. Follow your breath to the quiet still place within your heart. Take a few breaths into this area and continue to relax until you feel grounded. Your body and mind will begin to grow quieter with each breath. Let your thoughts come in, just simply notice them, and them Omtimes.com
watch them go out again. Imagine in your mind’s eye that as you breathe in and out, pure universal energy is running up and down your spine. As this energy flows through your body, it’s clearing and spinning your energy centers (chakras) as your soul becomes infused with source energy. Next, bring your awareness into your solar plexus area, and ask your intuition and your soul if there’s something it wants to tell you. Breathe and pause here for a moment, acknowledging whatever comes. As with so many of the exercises, I often recommend that you keep your soul journal nearby, so you can journal your thoughts, those soul flashes, and intuitive messages. This exercise is also great if you have a decision or choice that needs to be done. Get a postit note and create your own affirmation that’s in your mind right now, then stick the note on your computer or someplace where you’ll see it clearly every day. It will be a reminder to checkin with your intuition and your soul before you hastily move forward. Live a Soul-filled life!

The Best Rejection
When composer George Gershwin was developing his career, he contacted his esteemed role model Maurice Ravel and asked if Ravel would take him on as a student. Ravel, Omtimes.com
familiar with Gershwin’s work, rejected him, replying, “Why become a second-rate Ravel when you are already a first-rate Gershwin?” A true teacher does not inculcate students to replicate the teacher, but instead inspires students to discover their own greatness and bring it forth. It is said, “A true teacher makes himself progressively more unnecessary.” The word “education” derives from the Latin educare, “to draw forth from within.” In many ways modern education, by contrast, seeks to “pound in from without.” Certainly we can learn facts and glean guidance from experts. What we do with those facts and guidance is an inside job, the results of which create results unique to ourselves in all the universe. A friend of mine was studying with a brilliant Shaman in New Mexico. One
day she asked him, “How can I be more like you?” He replied, “The way to be more like me is to be more like you.” The message was that the shaman’s talents sprang from tapping into his authentic self and letting it shine. The student’s talents would spring from her allowing her authentic self to shine. Emerson said, “Imitation is suicide.” You can follow in someone else’s footsteps, but then you must find and walk your own path. My mentor said, “The student should strive to devour the teacher.” A student should absorb all that the teacher has to offer, and then go beyond the teacher. To simply replicate a teacher’s method or material is an insult to the teacher and the student. I am always excited to hear when one of my students takes what I have taught her, adds to it, and develops her own unique curriculum incorporating
Omtimes.com
my teachings with her own insights. I take it as a compliment if a student goes beyond what I have taught. I have sought to stand on the shoulders of my teachers, and I seek for my students to stand on mine. The word “guru” is spelled. G.U.R.U.: “Gee, you are you.” The same God that guides a guru, guides you. Ram Dass’s guru Neem Karoli Baba told him, “Guru, God, and Self are one.” This could be the meditation of a lifetime! God lives in all equally. Some people realize this more than others, which qualifies them to be a guru. If they truly know this, they direct you to the God within you. Gurus sit beside a river giving or selling water. The limited guru tells you, “I am the source of water. If you want more, come back and get it from me.” The unlimited guru takes you by the hand and guides you to
Omtimes.com
the river so you can draw it forth in infinite supply for yourself. God does not live only in an exterior person. Those who believe they are God and others are not have missed the point. Those who believe that God lives in others but not themselves have also missed the point. To know God is to know the God in everyone. A woman once wrote to me to ask me to certify her to teach a course based on one of my books. “Which book would you like to teach?” I asked her. “Dare to be Yourself,” she replied. I told her, “I cannot certify you to be yourself or to teach others to be themselves. Your real certification to teach the course is to be yourself. You teach by model far more than words.” I have learned a great deal about humility by watching the spiritual guide Bashar coach his students. Bashar never accepts credit
for a student’s insight or advancement. He always reflects a compliment and gives credit to the student. When a student tells him, “Thank you for giving me a powerful insight,” Bashar replies, “Thank you for opening to recognize the insight.” Or the student reports, “You really touched my heart.” Bashar answers, “You were open and ready to touch your own heart.” Teachers who empower their students, rather than taking students’ power unto themselves, are true teachers. If you are rejected by a teacher, employer, or lover, rejoice. You have most likely given your power away to that entity—an unhealthy act. Any time you believe someone can give you what you cannot give yourself, you disempower yourself. The person who rejected you is redirecting you, either to another place that is better for you, or to the ultimate teacher, employer, or lover— yourself.
George Gershwin went on to become one of the most popular and beloved composers of the twentieth century. He achieved this status without studying with Ravel, who, in rejecting Gershwin from leaning on him, and inspiring Gershwin to follow his own course, turned out to be the best teacher Gershwin ever had. How to Avoid Creating a Narcissistic Child 6 steps to guide you how to do it. By Omtimes Finding a narcissist is increasingly common in this age of self-awareness. Here’s how not to create a narcissistic child!
Omtimes.com
You as a mother think that your children are unique, and, in a sense, you are right. But avoid creating a narcissistic child! We know that each and every one of us is unique and singular people. However, continually telling a child that she is special exaggerating her abilities can cause adverse effects. We cannot fail to mention that this problem also has a genetic component and depends on other environmental factors. We want to give some steps on how to avoid creating a narcissistic child. You will see that the key is a balance. 1. Encourage the child’s performance without forgetting to teach about humility It is always good to assist your child make every
effort to do any job and to stay motivated to achieve their dreams and desires. Nothing in life is attained if there is no support or if there is no self-motivation and discipline. The motto, in this case, would be “Be the best you can be.” Encourage your child to feel good about their achievements, but always showing that he is no better than other people. You should help balance this balance between having confidence and at the same time maintaining humility. 2. Beware of privileges The concept of narcissism could be defined in the phrase “I feel that I am the center of the universe.” This is a self-perception about the environment that children develop from the relationship established primarily with parents.
Omtimes.com
So, avoid creating a narcissistic child by eliminating exaggerated privileges. In particular, it is vital that your child does not feel superior to their peers. 3. Do not allow aggression of any kind Under no circumstances should cruelty be allowed. It is important that your child learn to be assertive. A little aggressiveness is usual as children develop, especially with children of the same age. But you must work with your child’s sense of empathy. It is especially important not to let children mock or mistreat pets or use them to juggle. If you see your child doing this, please correct him immediately to avoid creating a narcissistic person. Explain what a helpless and abused person feels about someone older
Omtimes.com
and stronger than her. 4. Accept your child unconditionally as a person The basis of a safe trust and good child self-esteem is acceptance. Your children need to know that they are loved and respected as they are. But that does not mean that you should support their slips. When your child makes a mistake, you should correct it. Just try to make him aware that this mistake will not cost you your mother’s love. 5. Let your child suffer the consequences of her/ his actions. Do not try to protect your child every time he/ she is unhappy or when something is not going so well. If you are the type of parent who goes running to school ask the teacher to
give additional merits to his son even when they didn’t do their tasks, then you are not doing the right thing. A better method would be to set a schedule and have your child complete tasks and duties. Let your child cope with their own responsibilities to teachers when they do not fulfill their own responsibilities and avoid creating a narcissistic child. 6. Show your children their own mistakes Seeking perfection and success are worthy activities. But being a complete perfectionist is a serious problem when mistakes appear. If you show your children that errors and failure are part of life, they will learn to live better. They will be ready to correct their mistakes and will be able to move on, becoming
mature, determined and multifaceted people. Work and avoid creating a narcissistic child A narcissistic child is not born that way, it becomes that way. And most of the time, this behavior is the responsibility of the parents. A child turns into a narcissistic child when this child is suffering an overvaluation by parents or by an adult who continually lives with them. It’s good to work on your child’s self-esteem all the time, it is important to reassure them of their uniqueness and value. Also, reinforce the uniqueness of other people and situations. After all, your child lives in a society and must be prepared to treat other people with the same humanistic sense with which he wishes to be addressed.

Why It’s Important To Take A Compliment by Leigh Burton
Why isn’t a big deal when someone speaks the incredible words “ThankYou.” There is much more to the gift of a compliment or being appreciated than we might think.
Omtimes.com
It feels so good to be shown that we are appreciated. Even a simple look and “Thank-You that can catch us off guard can make the world of difference in our day. While we most often minimize the value with a response that it is our job or that we felt inspired to give of ourselves, it still feels great to experience recognition for our efforts. Especially if our efforts are merely given because we can. It is easy enough a task to recognize and acknowledge that which we appreciate in others because we are naturally inclined to give from the space that is our heart. A thank-you, a handshake, a hug or a smile is easy enough to do, and it tells a story of how what another has done is observed on a personal level. The effort to express gratitude tells a story of appreciation.
Is there anything more valuable that we can give to another person? When we share our appreciation, it motivates the recipient to acknowledge what is good about who they are. It empowers them to continue with what their strengths are, and use them for the better good. Most importantly, it gives them an opportunity to practice another moment of self-love. While living life with gratitude, and the generosity to share with someone else what makes them unique, special and valued, should we not do the same for ourselves? There are so many things that we can do to practice gratitude for who and what we are for ourselves as well as others, but there are two conditions we can achieve that will take self-love to a
Omtimes.com
whole new level. To start with, we can listen to what someone is saying in praise of who we are, and what we have done for them. It shouldn’t matter whether we believe it or not, because what’s been expressed is the opinion of someone outside of ourselves. A person who has their desires, needs, and expectations. They have developed a belief in what they enjoy or appreciate all on their own. Our opinion of that shouldn’t matter, and it shouldn’t become something that can change their mind. If there is difficulty in receiving praise, appreciation or a compliment, then there is a reflection to be done. Why should we deplete the value of what we have done for someone else when it is the receiving of our actions that was the point? The second condition to
Omtimes.com
establish self-love in this manner is to appreciate that which is most important. That which goes unrecognized far too often, and that is ourselves. What is it about ourselves that we can understand and inspire a world of difference in our own lives? With everything we do, we have a rooted desire to be loved, understood and accepted for our ability to contribute. There is no reason that we shouldn’t look within and achieve that on an entirely new level. Appreciation implies trust, consideration, love and so much more. If we asked ourselves what it means to be appreciated, what gift it is that we receive through it, we could see a great deal of opportunity to open our hearts even more, and with personal power that can only generate all the more reason to experience gratitude and generosity.
Are we minimizing the value that we are because of the innate ability to move forward and leaving our valuables behind? While there will be a memory of what we have accomplished, what we have given back to the space that we call our world, it will stay frozen in time. The appreciation of what we are and what we do will carry forward into every day after today, trickling into everything we do. Through it, we can lift ourselves and our spirit to be a better version of who we were a moment ago. Appreciating the courage, strength, generosity, and ability to practice gratitude that is inside us can be one of the most influential practices that we can do. It will initiate a stream of moments that together will be a chapter of our lives inspiring not just ourselves, but everyone around us to practice self-love that
relishes in the wisdom of whom each of us already is. Let’s collectively make the commitment to accept the next compliment we receive with the knowledge that we deserve it. Then, watch the world we call our own start to shift and empower even greater things than we thought possible. One “Thank-You” followed by an “I deserve it” is a self-love practice that can change everything. 6 Invaluable Lessons for Creating an Abundant Business By Jackie Lapin
John E. Fetzer found as much joy in his quest for spiritual enrichment as he did in the wealth he acquired building a financial empire that ultimately made him the sole owner of the Detroit Tigers
Omtimes.com
from 1961 to 1983 and put him on Forbes Magazine’s list of 400 richest Americans. And that may be the most valuable lesson that he offers us today. He maintained that these two were not mutually exclusive and, in fact, his connection to a higher consciousness was integral to his success building wealth from the foundation of his radio and TV stations, to his investment in the burgeoning cable television industry and to his culminating acquisition of the Tigers. As related in the new biography John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age, author Brian C. Wilson shows how Fetzer was a forerunner of the New Age Movement. Brian C. Wilson explores multiple paths to find true “freedom of the spirit” via the insights of emerging spiritual leaders, movements, and approaches - Eastern and Western - including Theosophy, Freemasonry, UFOlogy, parapsychology, and Buddhism, among others.
After reading this revealing book, I believe the conclusions that Fetzer came to during his quest -- and personally lived by -- provide valuable guidance to anyone seeking to accelerate his or her own business growth and wealth. Here are a few tenets that I think can be gleaned from the John E. Fetzer playbook of success: “Money is energy,” he often said. For Fetzer, spirituality was a recognition that all is a spirit, which he conceptualized as eternal, conscious energy that, if one were open to it, would inevitably lead one back to the “great central source.” Everything consists of this energy-even money. And if one understands this connection and taps into it psychically, then wealth and success, he believed, were within one’s grasp. This meant to him that money was to be used in the service of good since business success and wealth could only be spiritually uplifting if used for love and service. Although immensely
Omtimes.com
wealthy, Fetzer and his wife Rhea always lived very frugally, spending most of their lives in a modest home in a middleclass Kalamazoo neighborhood. For Fetzer, wealth was not for self-aggrandizement, which would have embarrassed him, but rather for the pursuit of a spiritual mission in service to the world. John’s approach was to serve first, and then money came back to him. Fetzer believed in Karma, and in resolving Karma to reach a higher order of consciousness as one pass through the many lives of one’s soul ascension. Thus, he sought to refrain from selfish, ego-driven actions that would have negative repercussions -- not only in this life but in future lives. John’s approach was to rein in his ego, seek equitable solutions for all, be generous with his workforce and partners, do his best and leave a wake of goodwill. Fetzer trusted a higher intelligence in guiding him to good business decisions. He meditated, contemplated and sought to gain insights that
Omtimes.com
he felt came directly from the source. And when he needed more guidance in plotting his business strategies, he used pendulums, astrology, Tarot cards, and even the Ouija Board. Or, he would turn to trusted mediums, psychic advisors, dowsers, and channelers. He found multiple ways to tap into the infinite intelligence. And he could point to specific situations which paid off handsomely. John trusted the Universe to provide answers, listened to his intuition, and tapped multiple sources for his answers. Fetzer was still seeking to learn, grow and unravel more of the Universe’s mysteries, even as he approached his 9th decade. He never stopped trying to raise his consciousness. And in order to bring others along to a more advanced state of consciousness, so that they, too, could experience the love, compassion, and spiritual connection that creates abundance and peace, he funded some of the seminal spiritual/paranormal/scientific
research of the 70s and 80s, to validate the existence of a higher power that can change our lives vibrationally. John never stopped questing, because it kept him vital-engaged in life and business. Fetzer was a believer in “oneness,” that we are all one unified force with the source of creation. So he lived by the “Golden Rule,” because he knew that he was connected to each and every one he encountered. He dealt with people with a fair and even hand. He brought respect to the negotiating table. He was beloved by his players on the Tigers and the employees in his company. John sought the good in all, refrained from gossip or unkind words, treated his employees with love and regard, dealt in good faith and was a positive light wherever he went. For Fetzer, leaving a legacy for the world was paramount. In the 1980s, Fetzer began to wind down his business activities and sell off his holdings (including the Detroit Tigers). He used his fortune
to endow the organizations that would carry his mission forward, to improve “the human and cosmic condition” through the advancement of the spiritualized science that he felt was so necessary for global transformation, and to support the programs that facilitate building a spiritual foundation for a more inclusive, loving, peaceful world. The lesson here is to weigh what legacy you can leave for the world - and while it may not be funded by great wealth - it can be the fruits of your time, efforts and gifts from which others can enjoy and prosper in the future. Brian C. Wilson, Ph.D., is the author of John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age. He is a professor of American religious history in the Department of Comparative Religion at Western Michigan University. To download a FREE CHAPTER of his book and learn more about how John E. Relationships
The interconnectiveness among all human beings and, consequently, the relationships among us are the focus of this section. The dynamics of the web of connections we make is one of the most prominent aspects of human existence: how we interlace with each other’s existence in a meaningful way.
The Negative Power of Pseudo-Positive People By Marcia Sirota, MD
Tara Parker-Pope just published an interesting article in the New York Times about the health benefits of spending time with positive people. She recommends that if we want to be healthier, we ought to
Omtimes.com
spend less time with negative people and a lot more time hanging out with positive ones. It seems self-evident that there would be benefits to associating with those individuals who are optimistic, supportive, generous and kind. It’s obvious that this would be preferable to being around people who are angry, spiteful, jealous, hostile or undermining. The article got me thinking, though, about people who seem positive but aren’t. What if you’ve been hanging around with some friends who you thought were positive people when in fact, they weren’t? What if they were in fact, pseudo-positive individuals? You’d want to know this, wouldn’t you? Especially in the light of all the research, Ms. Parker-Pope quoted in her article. In fact, I believe that as much as there’s value to spending time with positive people, there’s a detriment to associating with the pseudo-positive ones, and
I’ll explain my reasoning for this in a moment. So who are these seemingly positive people who aren’t so positive after all? They’re the people-pleasers of the world; those unfailingly nice, helpful, generous folks. They constantly do for everyone around them, both personally and professionally. The people-pleasers never say “no,” and they never confront you about anything they don’t like. They never directly express anger at you, and they never ask directly for what they want. They’re always there for you, no matter how inconvenient it might be for them. On the surface, these seem like great people to be around. They’re always helpful, and they never complain about anything; they’re always available, and they never refuse a request. But doesn’t that make you suspicious? Is it possible for a human being to be so genuinely and consistently helpful and never have needs of his or her own?
Omtimes.com
The answer, of course, is no. True positive people would fall into the category of those I call kind. These are caring, openhearted and loving individuals who also know how to take care of themselves. They’re able to say “no,” and they’re comfortable expressing their feelings and needs. Pseudo-positive people fall into the category of those I call “nice.” These individuals are looking for love and approval from others, so they try too hard to please. They can’t say “no,” express a need or confront someone about being hurtful because they’re afraid of losing the person who’s their potential source of selfesteem. Kind people are the true positive people because they don’t want anything from you. They’re choosing to be with you because they enjoy your company and they genuinely like you. They’re giving you their time, their energy and their affection because it makes them happy to do so. It’s a true win-win.
Omtimes.com
People-pleasers are the pseudo-positive people because they have a hidden agenda. They’re secretly using you to build up their fragile sense of self-worth. They don’t love you for who you are; they’re with you for what you might give them regarding affirmation and validation. Kind people are authentic. They come into the relationship feeling good about themselves, so they aren’t expecting you to compensate for any lack of self-esteem. They don’t expect anything from you except your friendship, so there’s no pressure on you to like or approve of anything they do. You can be real together; sometimes disagreeing with each-another and sometimes even arguing. This makes it possible to form and maintain a meaningful connection. Nice people are inauthentic. They feel compelled to show you only their “good” side. They withhold their true needs and feelings for fear of imposing or offending. Unfortunately, that prevents
you from really getting to know them. You never know who’s really there behind the ever-pleasant mask which can feel on some level, rather uncomfortable. And these overly nice people expect a lot from you, even though they aren’t actually saying so. It’s almost impossible not to sense the unspoken expectations of your affirmation and approval. You can start to feel pressured to constantly validate them, which can become more burdensome than enjoyable. A relationship with someone like this will be superficial, stressful and fundamentally unsatisfying. You should understand that the people-pleaser is in essence, a user, only being nice to gain your approval. They aren’t being genuinely helpful or caring, so anything you get from them is tainted by this unspoken demand. How can you really benefit from gifts that are offered with invisible strings attached? I agree with Ms. Parker-Pope
about the benefits of choosing to associate with positive people. As a psychiatrist, I’ve seen the importance of social support in both mental and physical well-being. Studies have shown that positive social connections improve health and support longevity. That’s why it’s important to distinguish the true positive people from the pseudopositive in your life. You owe it to yourself to pay close attention to the way people behave around you. If they’re always nice and never say no; if they never get mad or express any real needs, assume that they’re too good to be true and that they won’t add value to your existence. Keep your eyes open for the true positive people; the kind ones who are loving and caring but who don’t ignore their own needs. These are the ones who’ll form meaningful connections with you and who’ll exert a truly beneficial influence on your life. Sign up here for my free monthly wellness newsletter.

Sustainable and affordable ideas to an unforgettable first date By Ascending Hearts Dating
Passion can unleash some chemicals that human reason can’t fathom. But we all know that it is essential to make a good impression on the first date, to guarantee the promise of a happy, rewarding and sustainable relationship. It is critical to access the couple’s compatibilities when it comes to small daily things. Just a word of advice, about first dates, make a point to prefer
Omtimes.com
the public meeting options. Be comfortable on your own skin Don’t try to be someone else you aren’t. Plan your date with your potential romantic interest as you would do with an old friend. There is no right or wrong, but you may need to be relaxed, self-centered and calm to thoroughly enjoy your exciting new adventure.
Explore a new part of the City: In contrast to the traditional romantic dinner, this is a much more relaxed and relaxing way of meeting a potential significant Other. Getting to know and admire the streets, old buildings, and people of a new (it could be the Old side too) part of the city is an excellent proposition to make the two of you know each other without both feeling like you are at an uncomfortable “job” interview. Take a walk in a Park If both of you like to do outdoor programs and be in touch with nature, why not make the first meeting in a natural park? As well as being outdoors, you can take a walk or bike. “Novelty is the spicy sauce of relationships, so a more adventurous encounter is a good way to generate excitement.” GO Try and Exotic Dessert According to the relationship specialist, this is an extraordinary alternative to the traditional dinner for
two. If the person you are interested in is crazy about candy, why not take it to a very reputable ice cream shop or a pastry shop with tempting desserts to eat and make this first date a sweet one? Go to a standup Comedy Show Several studies have shown that couples who enjoy fun times have a happier and more cohesive love life. Why not put this psychological research to the test and buy two tickets for your town’s next standup comedy show? Attend a Music Show/ Performance If both of you are serious about sharing your life with each other, you may want to get to know your mutual taste in music and arts. Ideally, you should buy concert tickets for a group that you both like, so you do not run the risk of challenging the taste of other person. If you want a more adventurous option, you can always invite your date to the concert of a band that both are unaware and that will discover the two.

Learn the 8 signs for when a Guardian Angel wants your attention By Humanity Healing
We all have at least one, from the moment we are born, a Guardian Angel who is always by our side and spiritual guides who are with us in the most delicate phases of our life. Learn to identify the signs that
Omtimes.com
your Guardian Angel - or your spiritual guides - are trying to tell you something important. Our Angels and spiritual messengers are always around and are willing to communicate with us in different ways. Usually, they inspire our thoughts, which come to us as “sudden ideas, as if someone had whispered them in the ear. Sometimes, because we are in an especially important point in our life (often without being aware of it,), The communication should start. It may not be a difficult period nor a crisis, but there is a subtle transformation within us, or being in a period of change, of the which we are aware of only a few months later or because we really need help, our guardians seek more direct contact with us, leaving messages ready to be deciphered by us. Learn to (re) know them and know how to use them for what they are: precious help! 1. The room temperature changes Has it ever happened to you
to be in a room of the house and, suddenly, to feel cold or, on the contrary, sudden access of heat? Unless weather conditions are particularly wobbly on that day, your Guardian Angel, or a friendly spirit, is likely to want to make you feel that you are close to you. This happens especially when we are in a new situation or when we go to a place for the first time, being particularly noticed when it happens in an interior space, where the changes of temperature are improbable. 2. Repetition of number sequences It has certainly happened to you to look at the clock and to mark a repeated sequence, such as 11:11 or 14:14. When that same sequence begins to appear more and more times, signs, written on the walls, etc ... then there is a message that you NEED to receive. 3. Unexpected odors and smells If you are at home and suddenly smell that cake your grandmother used to make, or
Omtimes.com
the tobacco your uncle smoked, or smell a place you do not even know, there is a strong chance that a spiritual guide is trying to communicate with you. Smells compel us to notice them through scents for they have the immediate ability to evoke memories or to surprise our senses, making them realize that there is something different happening. 4. Domestic animals begin to act strangely Dogs, and especially cats, can perceive spiritual presences and see what we cannot usually see. For this reason, if your pets begin to behave differently, for example by staring, static, a wall, they may have detected the presence of an Angel or Guide that you cannot see. 5. Being saved from a danger Some situations become dangerous without us being able to predict the outcome that may come from them. When we escape unharmed to a situation that resolves
Omtimes.com
“as if by a miracle” we are undoubtedly accompanied by our Guardian Angel and by the protection of our spiritual guides. 6. Finding Feathers The Angels like to leave feathers, especially white ones, in the way of their protégés, so that they know they are being accompanied. If you notice the appearance of feathers in places where there are no birds, remember that your Guardian Angel is looking for you. 7. Finding Cards Each playing card has a meaning, interpreted through Cartomancy and or Tarot. Finding lost playing cards can bring messages that are associated with the meaning of each card. 8. Feelings in dreams Even if you do not remember your dreams, when you wake up with a sense of lightness and happiness, your Guardian Angel may be bringing you positive and uplifting messages during the night.

AWARENESS, THE SALVATION OF THE WORLD By Marguerite Dar Boggia
Awareness of what? It is the awareness of the SOUL. Righteousness is only seen through the nobility of the Soul. It is the awareness of people between right and
Omtimes.com
wrong, justice and injustice, that will change the world. In the past, the World Teachers have urged us to follow the Laws of the Cosmos: to love one another, to turn the other cheek, to forgive, to recognize that we are all brothers of One Family. After every century, awareness of the people can be observed, when the majority reject prejudice, intolerance, injustice, animosity and religious dogmatism. Individually they have no power but when all the benevolent groups are united for a change of our obsolete economic system, then the Disciple: Humanity will be victorious. It will work with the Divine Laws of the Cosmos. In the world, we have leaders who support and work for COMMERCIALIZATION and GLOBAL DOMINATION1, through their banks and multinational corporations, not for the benefit of the people but for their own PROFIT and POWER. If they cannot create a vassal state through
economic blackmail, then it will create an enemy such as (in the past) the JEWS, the BLACKS, the MEXICANS; and in the present, the MOSLEMS, RUSSIA, and ISIS. They give arms and ammunition to those uninformed, emotionally focused fanatics, called ‘ISIS’ to CREATE a fundamentalist religious State. Then our hypocritical, duplicitous leaders will appear as Heros when they seek to crush the so-called ‘terrorists,’ which they created.2 Commercialization and its destructive COMPETITIVENESS are beginning to be seen as a hindrance to the well being of the people. Commercialization includes all projects with ONLY PROFIT in mind. This is now seen by the intelligentsia as the antithesis of progress. The Divine Plan is for the spiritual growth of ALL of humanity and not just for the few. All atoms, whether mineral, human or solar each have a rate of vibration, a color and a sound, a keynote. If we
Omtimes.com
were clairaudient, we would go ‘mad’ because instead of music, there is a discordant, unbearable chaotic sound of a sick World with a cancerous tumor that needs to burst. There can be no reward without a struggle.... a real battle. These are the tests and trials of the Disciple: HUMANITY. In the individual, it is the battle to control our lower nature: our dislikes, jealousies, resentments, self-importance, selfishness, criticisms, etc. Israeli and Palestinian women are showing us the way to demand peace. For two weeks in September 2017, 30,000 women marched through the desert to the home of Netanyahu in Jerusalem to demand a viable and just peace settlement.3 So far, nothing has come of it. The leaders prefer the status quo. The leaders and the mainstream media owned by the corporations of the Global Elite aka the Cabal were silent on this event.
Omtimes.com
Most people in the World recognize Israel’s occupation and injustice to the thousands of Palestinians demonstrating for peace in the Gaza strip. Hundreds have been killed, and 14,000 have been wounded with bullets that explode in the stomach and pulverize the bones.4 Yet no one dares to demand boycotts and sanctions against Israel. This demonstrates the intransigence, and/or fear of countries in the United Nations and the apathy of the people of the U.S. to call their congressmen and senators to demand that they desist from giving $3 BILLION every year to Israel. Congress has the power of the purse and should use it. This demonstrates that the Disciple, Humanity has not yet learned its lesson. The people of the United States are especially complacent and ‘politically ignorant.’ Most do not realize that both political parties: Democratic and Republican work for the Global Elite and their banks and corporations. In 2020 at
the next U.S. election, the representatives of Democratic Party will win overwhelmingly; only to start the intended war against Russia. Russia refuses to be a vassal State. But don’t despair, after the disastrous war by the US and its Allies, using starwar technology, the younger generation will insist on a world based on goodwill, justice, and freedom. A new economic system will be offered, which system has been prepared by the Masters and their Disciples. It will prepare us for our destined Golden Age,5 predicted by Edgar Cayce and the Hindu & Zoroastrian Sages. Marguerite Dar Boggia was past Secretary, Membership Secretary and Director for ISAR, the International Society for Astrological Research. She was the Publisher of Kosmos, the ISAR journal. She was a cofounder of UAC and its past Secretary and Director. Her goal is to serve humanity and the spiritual Hierarchy of our

Personal Growth & Development
We grow as individuals as we face challenges and overcome life’s obstacles. This section is dedicated to helping you chart your course.
Facing The Myth of Self-Worth by Andrea Mathews Many, if not most of us, are spending our lives seeking the sense of self-worth that we are promised. The time when we finally become “good enough” in whatever way we see “good
Omtimes.com
enough.” From infancy, we’ve been taught that there is a “good enough.” There is someplace, some psychic place, some happy place, some invisible but specific place out there somewhere in the future where we will finally feel that sense of worthiness that generates self-confidence and self-esteem. And we will know that we have arrived because we will see that we are good enough to have that selfconfidence and self-esteem. Until then, however, we are stuck with this sense that no matter how hard we try we can’t ever quite reach “good enough.” It remains out there somewhere. So we bargain with ourselves. “If I can earn a certain amount of money, then I will finally be good enough.” “If I can have that relationship, then I will finally be good enough.” “If I can get that perfect job, with the perfect mission, then I will finally be good enough.” “If I can find my purpose in
life, then I will do it, and I will finally be good enough.” We strive and wait and, wait and strive, but no matter what we do, no matter how much money we earn, regardless if the Universe drops millions of dollars into our laps, we still have this nagging sense that we are just not quite good enough. Often this is accompanied by a feeling that we should not have what others lack. Why do I deserve this house, this car, this relationship, this money when there are so many people on earth who do not have any of those things? That feeling, that question makes us feel all the more unworthy, for to believe we deserve those things, is to be arrogant, right? But all of this, ALL of this is based on the mythology that there is some worthiness that we must earn. And all of that is found in the paradigm of duality. Duality says that we are separate from each other and the divine and that separation is a result of our fundamentally evil natures. That mythology has spread so Omtimes.com
far and wide and, is grounded so deep in the archetypal memories that we seem to know it is true—even though it is entirely false. The truth is that there is no such separation. We are One with each other and One with the divine and, because we don’t know it, we act in ways that match what we believe to be true; the belief that we have an evil nature. Then we begin to measure our worth based on our behaviors. But this myth is disproven by the simple fact that no matter how many good deeds we do, no matter how many sacrifices we make, no matter what we do we still feel that we must continue to chase that elusive sense of self-worth. But we are automatically worthy, based merely on the fact that we exist. We are worthy because we were made worthy. We do not have anything to prove. The gifts that are given to us in life are because we were meant to have those things. The losses that we experience don’t happen because we deserve Omtimes.com
them. They happen because a loss is a part of the experience of duality, which we are all experiencing as a part of the earth experience. But as we come to know that we are One with the divine, and One with each other and all of nature, we no longer live into the duality experience. Instead, we begin to see with the correct vision of Oneness. At that point, we no longer ask if we are worthy. We no longer seek after that elusive sense of selfworth, we live in the gratitude that comes with knowing that all that we have is a gift from the divine. Why Is It So Easy To Be Negative? by Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari Scientific research shows we have more positive experiences than negative. Why then do we seem almost to cherish the negative and forget the
Omtimes.com
positive? This article discusses how our brains are actually wired to remember the negative and how in our society today we are exposed to so many negative happenings around the world. How do we begin to embrace the positive and become responsible for our own happiness? By noticing the good happening all around us. Scientific research shows that we have three times more positive experiences than negative!!! And yet we are so attuned to the negative and so blind to the good! Why do we embrace the negative and shun the positive? It is our habitual negative bias. In the midst of so much perceived gloom, the truth is we are bathed in a light more than ever! And as we learn to practice gratitude for what we have instead of worrying about what we don’t have, we find God truly loves us as we are. One reason we cling to
the negative is that we are exposed to so many negative happenings around the world that most of the information we get through our eyes or ears is about what is wrong all around us rather than what is right. Research also shows that we are programmed to retain negative memories more than positive ones as a survival mechanism. If we forget to run when a tiger is approaching, that is life threatening! Taking time to smell the roses was not as important for our survival. Therefore, we are so prone to this negative bias in our programmed brain that takes a conscious effort to retain positive memories. Research again shows that if we are to retain a pleasant memory, we have to hold it in our conscious thoughts for a longer time than a negative memory. Due to this negative feeding from our external environment and our innate internal programming, we

start to strengthen our belief that life is a struggle, a battle, and always painful. Most of the time we forget the reality that in this very world, right around us, so much good is happening, so many good people are there, and nature and small children are dancing in the joy of continual celebration!
the light of awareness into our minds to transform the negative emotions and beliefs into positive, higher consciousness. Mindfulness and meditation, prayer and selfless service, help this transformative process.
Yet, there are too many distractions these days and too many negative things to handle. At times, we feel there is no way to run away from all this negativity. As such, we are glad to have happiness in life, but it is always a mixed blessing as it slips from our hands so quickly!
Every day we need to take some time to be with our self. Time for an intimate unbiased one-on-one with our self, just to become more conscious of our dominant traits, our natural tendencies. As we identify thought patterns we just consciously change these habitual thoughts with lifeaffirming thoughts with deep faith in the power of universal wisdom and light.
How do we begin to mindfully embrace the positive when we are so inundated with the negative? We need to do a compassionate unbiased analysis of our thoughts and feelings, and welcome
We need to ask our self: Are we doing the same things that we do every morning? If yes, then we need to remind ourselves not to forget that this day never came to us before and will not come to us again in this lifetime! We
Omtimes.com
need to stop, ponder, and reflect why we are here? Instead of doing our same mindless, repetitive habits let us stop and become aware of our being and feel grateful, prayerful, and “heartful”! Let us celebrate each and every day as an opportunity to breathe with awareness, to work with mindfulness, to love with “heartfulness,” and to forgive with our “beingness.” Let us begin by not just spending the day; let us live to be ALIVE! Let’s not “kill time,” let’s live life!! We are not here just to see some peaks of success and accomplishments, and enjoy the fruits of it. We are here to attain success that is beyond the temporal gains, success to access the power of our spirit, to be on our own, to remain calm when storms hit us, when dark clouds surround us, and when things no longer go our way.
If we truly mean to be happy, then we need to see life in its holistic way; accepting life as is, and not as we expect it to be. With each passing day instead of making life more complicated, let us try to simplify it. Only we can make ourselves happy, nobody else can! Facing Fears: The Miracle of Courage by Judi Lynch Throughout our lives, we face different kinds of fear. Our courage is tested in a myriad of situations and events in which we will have to make decisions. Choices which require bravery. It takes a tremendous amount
Omtimes.com
of strength to be able to recognize our challenges and resolve to change what no longer positively serves us. For some, it’s easier to play it safe, knowing things can be better but choosing to coast with the well-known. We don’t have to languish; instead, we can reach out and ask for help.
It can take just one person to change the negative energy in a room from fear to hope. One word or action of a person who cares enough to make a difference will set off a chain of events creating change for the better. If it were not for these incredible souls, things would not be able to evolve.
The times we are living in right now take a whole lot of courage to stay positive and hopeful. So many are finally speaking out about situations that held them in fear of using their voices. We have always had activists in the world who were passionate and brave beyond reason about injustices and inhumane treatment of others. Their selfless acts and refusal to be silenced gave hope to anyone who felt imprisoned or repressed because of their life circumstance.
If we think about ourselves as children and all of the things that frightened us, we remember the fears we overcame. When we thought there was a monster under our bed, did we look? Did we hide under the covers? Did we call our parents for support? When someone dared us to ride the big rollercoaster, did we hop on or watch from a bench near the ride? If a bully at school threatened someone in front of us, did we speak up? All of these events helped us to make choices and determine the difference between fear and courage.
It takes great courage for some to speak up in a room full of silence and indifference, and time for others to understand a just cause and join in for the common good. Collective courage can change the world.
“Go back?” he thought. “No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? The only thing to do! On we go!” So up he got and trotted along

We always have the choice to ask for help in understanding our anxieties about life. What causes some people to detach from caring too much because of the fear of loving another when others have no fear of falling in love many times during their lives? The answer is their ability to move forward in spite of the fear. That’s the key. Concern can be a catalyst to action, or it can stagnate the mind into inaction. It is a choice.
A person of strength knows that courage can be soft, or roar like a lion. It comes in many forms with twists and turns and various outcomes. It takes facing uncertainty and turning it into a miracle of spirit. It can happen in a split second or from years of adversity. It lives in all of us in varying degrees but, if we keep our hope alive and our hearts open, courage will find us when we least expect it. We can change our lives with one step forward and someone else’s life when we face our fears.
When we find ourselves stuck and inactive about circumstances that need our attention we have to remember that we are in control. We have the power to change many things. Through living, we can learn when to fight for what is right and when to remain silent to keep the peace. Sometimes courage means not saying anything and reflecting on what we are supposed to learn at that moment so that it may

What to do, When Our fears make us Invisible By Cathedral of the Soul
In our childhood, we may not have any fears, any shame, and worries. We May have been confident in ourselves and our abilities, and so our light shined bright. But as we grow,
Omtimes.com
our self-confidence tends to be challenged and to diminish, and fears tend to arise that make us invisible. The desire to be invisible comes from all the social and cultural beliefs that we acquired and assimilated through life. Those fears will solidify as we grow older and undergo many experiences. As we know, our opinions and beliefs have a tendency to limit us. For example, if we think we’re going to make a mistake in a presentation and that actually happens, we probably will not want to talk in public at a later date. In fact, we can get quite convinced that we’re bad speakers when that’s not true. Some of the beliefs we have only promote our fears. Fear of being alone, fear that nobody wants us, that no one pays attention. Fear of not having the perfect family, not taking the best grades at school, disappointing others or failing to reach goals. These fears that make us invisible lead us to recognize with specific labels that do not match us. Our greatness scares us
We live in a society that continually throws us down, leading us to compare ourselves with others and to analyze in detail all our faults. Where are our strengths? In the shadow. They are ready for us to look at them, so they can come to light and thus be aware of our potential. Shadow work is essential to our personal development. Where do all these fears that make us invisible begin to take shape? Usually in the family environment, in the context where we spend most of our time, which is almost always our safety and comfort zone. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness that most frightens us. –Marianne Williamson When we are different, and our behavior is not expected, safety disappears, and sometimes we are afraid. For example, in a family where traditional work is valued, if a family member is engaged in art or a programmer, or a freelancer, he Omtimes.com
may have to listen: “This is not a real job.” The disbelief of those we consider a source of support threatens our self-confidence and, in some cases, the way we value ourselves. We feel secure in being true to family beliefs. We trail in the footsteps of our parents, we get a job like theirs ... But when this does not happen, the feeling of protection is broken to give way to fear and the desire to be invisible at certain moments. Here are the three fears that make us wish to become Invisible. It is not just the family that can make us want to be invisible to be like others and not stand out. Many other fears grow and grow stronger because of certain beliefs that have to do with the social sphere. Let’s see what these three fears that do not allow us to expose who we really are are.
a inimitable ability or a natural gift that allows us to do things we would like to be recognized. However, we know that standing out involves exposing yourself and making others feel uncomfortable and even envious. So, as consequence, we may have to face criticism, judgment, and rejection. For some, depending on your past experiences, this can be unbearable because we always expect others to approve of us. The desire to shine, to be accepted but also the fear of doing so, gives rise to two options: to shine and show our essence, or to be invisible and to follow the outlooks of others. The fear of being alone
Fear of arousing the envy of others
Fear of being alone affects many people. We have the belief that we should be the way others approve to be accepted. For example: if we are too playful, but the friends around us are ashamed of us, we will try to change and suppress our natural tendencies, so we will not be alone.
We all have something unique,
Finally, we choose to be

invisible, so others accept us more easily. However, what we must ask ourselves if is it worth to be with people who do not embrace us as we are? Being alone is like leaving our comfort zone. Why are we so afraid of not finding more friends, partners, or people who accept us? Have you asked yourself this question? If we change our essence, there will come a time when we will ask ourselves who we really are. Choosing to be what others want means betraying ourselves, a rejection of who we are that will eventually cause us great discomfort. Recovering who we will be a process that will lead us to face everything we fear. It is a complicated path, but it is gratifying when we reach the goal because there is nothing more pleasant than a reunion with ourselves. Fear of losing our public identity If in our childhood our family told us that “we do not deserve what we receive,” it is
very likely that we will grow thinking and act accordingly. Thus, we will not only think that we do not deserve a gift, but also that we are not worthy of attention nor of affection. We have adopted an identity based on unworthiness. Curiously, we dread losing what they told us we were. This identity with which we do not identify, though we have learned to adapt. That’s why it’s so hard to change. We build a world according to what we think we are, with what they say we are. Therefore, without realizing it and unintentionally, we avoid any sign of affection. Therefore, it is imperative to unlearn this behavior to know who we are indeed. We often choose invisibility because we believe that the opinion of others about who we are is always right. We may have chosen invisibility so far, but we can decide to stop. We can get rid of the labels that were imposed on us and the fears that only serve to limit us and find in us the best of all companies. Omtimes.com
