Classic Driveways Celebrates Award Win Classic Driveways has won first prize in the Domestic category of this year’s Golden Trowel Awards, which recognises excellence in concrete design and construction. Sponsored by national supplier PICS (Pattern Imprinted Concrete Supplies), the annual awards invites everyone involved in the decorative concrete industry to submit their best projects from the last year. Judges from the Concrete Society then choose the top three entries from each of the classes. From hundreds of entries, it was Classic Driveways’ stunning pattern imprinted design that caught the eye of the judges. Taking 10 weeks to complete, the beautiful driveway combines attention to detail with excellent craftsmanship.
Having won the same award in 2007, Classic Driveways, based in Worsley, is the only company to have won it twice. Managing director David Faunt said: “We always strive to be innovative with our designs, and winning the Golden Trowel Award for the second time is testament to the excellent service we offer. We pride ourselves on being an honest and genuine company, going that extra mile to source quality products and create timeless designs.” Established in 2001, Classic Driveways has built an unrivalled reputation. With a background in architecture, David has vast experience of paving and landscaping designs, blending creative flair with expert planning through every phase of the landscaping process.

“Replacing your steamed-up windows doesn’t mean you have to replace the whole window… Save thousands by changing only the glass.” It can be stressful when things break or go wrong, especially when it seems the only solution comes at great expense. Unexpected bills can hit households very hard at a time when every penny counts and it means that thousands of homeowners put off fixing their windows or doors for fear of the high costs usually associated with these types of products. Well now you can relax because WindowGeeks, a national window, door & conservatory repair specialist, has expanded to cover Manchester and the surrounding areas, giving local home owners access to real money-saving options that can reduce an alarming bill in the thousands to a far more acceptable one in the low hundreds – and in most cases even lower than that. The fact is that the average single repair or replacement undertaken by WindowGeeks, which includes locks, handles and hinges, as well as the usual replacement of steamed-up double glazed windows, is less than £50. The replacement of a single steamed-up double glazed window can be as low as £30 including VAT and fitting, which is why at this point, many people take the opportunity to upgrade to energy efficient double glazed units or even triple glazing. Our local and experienced team of skilled craftsmen and women provide a professional and cost effective service to thousands of customers across the UK. Manchester branch manager, Tony McNorton, says “Lots of people have problems with their windows. They get steamed-up and won't clear, or the locks stick or the handles get loose… and it becomes even more of a problem in the winter when cold draughts get through, but what’s really surprising is that most people don't realise that all of these problems can be fixed quickly and without spending a fortune.” FOR ADVERTISING OR GENERAL ENQUIRIES, PLEASE CALL 0161 790 2504
WindowGeeks has over 38 years experience in the glazing industry and it’s sad to think that there are still quite a few traditional window companies that won’t carry out repairs. Some do, and do a great job, but Tony adds, “In most cases they're not really interested in the smaller jobs and that's what's so great about WindowGeeks. We offer a real cost-effective solution, which makes it a very easy decision for our customers to choose us... there's no pressure sales from us because there's no viable alternative, unless, that is, you want to spend 10, 20 or even 50 times more on replacing all your double glazing!” While the cost savings might be the biggest draw, there's another reason customers should choose WindowGeeks. “It's all about honesty and trust,” says Tony. “There's integrity in what WindowGeeks do and that's very important to me. We tell the truth, only charge for what needs doing and we always honour our promises. We run a very successful and ethical business based on good old fashioned customer service backed up with top quality products and support from our head office.”

Community Gardening in Your Area ! Planters at the Boothstown Standfield Centre (Jul13)
The Incredible Edible Salford (IES) project is growing from strength to strength as the local community commit to producing a sustainable food-source. The project, supported by the Horticulture Dept. at Salford City College’s Eccles Sixth Form Centre, is based on the successful Incredible Edible framework established in Todmorden, Yorkshire. Horticulture Tutor and IES founder, Ian Bocock, said “The Incredible Edible Salford project has received a large amount of interest and we are now preparing the land in order to plant what we hope to be our first successful crop. I think the Incredible Edible Salford project is appealing to local people for a variety of reasons; obviously there is the access to fresh, organic, home grown fruit and vegetables, but also it provides an interest and a community spirit in the sense that we need the volunteers to help us with the maintenance of
the project, and they are committing to a worthy, community-based project. The project really is one for everyone. We have all aspects of Salford’s community represented through the group of volunteers - families, retired people, those with a keen interest in gardening, and even those who know nothing about gardening but just wanted to get involved in a community-based project.” Latest projects include Boothstown Standfield Centre and Eccles town centre, where vegetable planters are up and running, and ready to harvest. You can view photos and details of all projects on Facebook, follow IES on Twitter, plus the new website www.incredibleediblesalford.org.uk. If you are interested in getting involved in the Incredible Edible Salford project, or can suggest suitable plots in Claremont / South Swinton, call Salford City College on 0161 631 5000.

Tried and tested: Serenity Lounge In June, we were kindly invited to Serenity Lounge to sample their new Signature Pamper Package, incorporating a comprehensive range of holistic treatments the salon specialises in. We couldn’t fail to be impressed by the new salon and the immensely relaxing 2-hour treatment we received. Read Louise’s verdict:“I arrived at the Spa which smelled delicious and had a very relaxing atmosphere, beautifully decorated in muted tones of stone and brown. Karen, who owns Serenity Lounge, is very calm and soothing. Combined with the warmth of the heated bed, plus the sumptuous fluffy covers, I felt very warm and relaxed before the treatment even started. Karen explained the run of events and began with a warming hot stone back massage, followed by the head pressure point massage. Having been under a lot of stress recently, at this point I can honestly say my mind and body started to unwind.
Next was the Chakra re-balancing with cr y s tals , wh ich identifies and rebalances the flow of energy around the body. Karen’s feedback was amazingly accurate in terms of the areas that were blocked as they related directly to my life. I then received a holistic facial using Dermalogica products, which I trust and use anyway, plus Karen incorporated their new Bee Venom cream which is purported to give a “botox” type of effect and is used by Royalty in the UK! The treatment was then finished off with a foot massage/reflexology and hot booties to ensure the foot moisturiser really soaked into my feet. Every part of my body had been pampered - I was walking on air when I left and still feel the benefits. I’ve already booked in for another, as this is a ‘must-do’ package which flows so well. Karen is fantastic and it’s amazing value! Try it and you could not possibly be disappointed!”

Real Weddings THE BRIDE & GROOM... Emma Dunn and Dennis Heap, from Swinton, began their romance an amazing 21 years ago. Emma said “It was a long time coming have been together for three years, separating for ten and then finding each other again. After a further eight years together we thought it was time to get married!” THE THEME... We wanted to create a vintage look and chose outfits, venue dressing and car to match. We selected our outfits from local bridalwear shop, Proposals. I first went in with my daughter feeling a little scared but straight away I was put at ease. Rod, Sharon and Gilly make you feel great about yourself and so at home. We chose a mocha, latte and cream colour scheme. The dress was “vintage with slight bling”. I tried only three dresses but knew this was the right one. Rod, who organises all the men’s suits, made sure everything matched.
RTS
THE BIG DAY... After a year of preparation, we married at Swinton Registry Office on 18th May 2013. Our reception was held at Swinton Park Golf Club as the food had been highly recommended. It was a perfect room-size and the staff were so welcoming and accommodating. From beginning to end, the day was absolutely gorgeous, we couldn't have asked for better. You only have to look at our faces in the photos to see how happy we both were. The only thing we would have loved, was to have our mums there who both passed away the year before. THE HONEYMOON... We celebrated in Australia, staying with my brother Ian and his Wife Edna who treated us to an absolutely memorable time doing things we both couldn't have dreamt of. TOP TIP... Plan the day as you both want it and enjoy it from beginning to end as it does go so quickly. Get yourself the best photographer you can afford as your pictures of the day are your memories. The day passes in a whirlwind and you won’t remember it all. 20 LIVE IT LOCAL

CAPTURING THE MOMENT Local Wedding Photographer, Zenna Barry, gives her advice for ensuring great wedding photographs
Zen Photographic: Ben & Jo at Worsley Park, Marriott, Sept 2012
there’s only so much your photographer can do without using a flash. Always have this in mind when looking at venues.
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, that is why finding the right professional photographer is critical. Here are a few helpful tips to get you started...
4. GET CREATIVE You photographer is not just there to snap away aimlessly on the day. They are generally super creative people who can take on idea's and change things around to suit your requirements.
1. BOOK A DECENT PHOTOGRAPHER My advice is do your research. Online wedding blogs are a great place to start. As a guide you need to allocate at least £1k in your budget for your wedding day photography. The average photography spend in the UK is between £1,200-£2,500, honest!
5. LEAVE ENOUGH TIME Here’s what I normally request:GETTING READY: About two hours before the ceremony I will arrive & capture both bride & groom details & portraits. This really helps start the story of the day. GROUP SHOTS: Allow 5 mins per group shot, with a max 8-10 shots. BRIDE & GROOM PORTRAITS: I like to have at least half an hour for this. This can be split into two 15 min sections before and after the wedding breakfast.
2. HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT If your photographer offers an engagement shoot as part of the package then take it! They are a great way to practice showing emotion to each other in front of someone else and getting to know your photographer’s way of shooting before your wedding day. 3.
