The Japanese artist Hiroko Matsushita, who was in Pilsen thanks to our OPEN A.i.R Artist in Residence Programme, created a delicate and sensitive paper installation, in the spirit of Japanese craft traditions, in the dramatic environment of the DEPO2015 creative zone. Her project, Shadows, used reverse projections on silk paper. Her art reminds us that light is not just a basic need but, also brings beauty and assurance into our lives.

KAZUM
The Japanese artist Kazumi Kashimura has been working with the phenomenon of light in all its forms as part of her artistic residency in Pilsen. Her light installation brought to life the “souls” of common plastic bottles in the Radbuza riverside with the help of thousands of miniature LED light bulbs. Kazumi Kashimura introduced installations comprised of hundreds of recycled plastic bottles converted into unexpected sculptures, and reacted to the topics of ecology and recycling in her own way. The artwork was installed in the former river bath PLOVÁRNA.

SHORT INTERIEW...
g n i t o o h s s r o i r e t in s o o l n i ROSWITHA MARKUS
1_ Why did you chose the interiors of Adolf Loos to do the shooting? We already know Loo´s Building and especially his theoretic work from living and studying in Vienna. Actually, the American Bar designed by Adolf Loos in Vienna´s first district is one of the popular places for artists to go out for drinks and discuss. Loos transports already a very modernist approach with his work, as you would see on later architects from International Sytle. That is very interestin to us, as these interiours have a historic touch, of course, but are kind of timeless in the same sense. It might be a place everywhere at every time. That makes it a perfectly good location for fiction and Sci-Fi. 2_ What do you think that people from Pilsen is going to feel with your movie? Actually, it will turn out to a surprise no? We did not force distinct feeling with our film work, it more offers an atmosphere, a mood, where the audience can choose if tuning in to or not at all.

GETTING INTO....
S ´ k a n r ho a l l i m lud M E T O T N I PROJECT 1 _ How is your project going on? The first three weeks, in January, I made a research which just connected with the people as they visited the organization and workshops. I tried to set up all the people missing in the organization what kind of posibility we could create between a public space and a space inside of the organization, how to support the relationships between the workshops and the different category programme, together to make people closer. But also, how to bring people from outside, from the blocks, where the people live alone, brings them together more, to start up the conversation between the people in this district about TOTEM,
about the philosophy of TOTEM and the philosophy of trust and neighborhood relationships. I made an interview with almost 30 people, it’s really 1% from the amount of the people who visits this organization.
DOMACI JE DOMACI
After the three weeks research process, I did a meeting with TOTEM team and I presented them two projects, one was more about public spaces, about environment inside public spaces, engaging the people from outside.
And the other project was more about tradition, tradition related to new settlement and related to all the old part, which is specific point in this district. The team of TOTEM chose the second project, which was more complex and more easy from organisation aspects and I think it is easier for the people how to get involved. There is a little bit less possibility to be creative in a group of people but it is just to open to enjoy the process of the project. The philosophy and the name of the project is "Domaci je Domaci" (Homemade is homemade). So, that means that there will be special presents for the neighbours, but I dont want to give more details because it will be a surprise.

GETTING INTO....
S ´ k a n r ho a l l i m lud M E T O T N I PROJECT
2- Do you feel that people is getting involved in your project? We chose the people from Bolevec, which is a city quarter located around TOTEM* space. One of the aims is to change the idea about old people, that this kind of idea is possible to create and to bringthem more positive. Because most of them think that is not possible to create, they think that people are totally ignorant and they dont want to collaborate. I think it is a very good reflexion, also it is a good reflexion how the people feel in post socialist area, where a lot of people have a strange feeling and strange meaning of this project. In socialist republics a lot of people must worked together, and must to do together a project but it was a must, now it is a choice and people can create * Regional volunteering center TOTEM
together. In czech and slovak republics, the social part creates deformation in this kind of projects. I think there are people in each group that feel really enthusiastic about it, there are almost 10 or 15 people who have a positive feeling, they see that it is possible. But my position in the project is to bring this feeling that it is possible and I also listen to other opinions, opposite questions and other complications, so I hope that we will find out a good middle point, how to create it. It is also the question if the society is prepared to this kind of project but I think it is good to start up with this because if nobody starts, it will never change.

WELCOME TO....
R . I . A N E NEW OP BER M E M M A TE OPEN A.i.R Team is growing day by day! In fact, during this month we welcomed in Pilsen Matthieu Dubrac, which will work with us till the beginning of October. Matt comes from Nantes (France) and he has experience in communication and production in some music festivals and cultural events. In this short interview, he told us his motivations and expectatives about this new experience. 1_Why did you chose Pilsen? I chose Pilsen 2015 because of the opportunity to work for an European Capital of Culture. I had the chance to work for a project of Marseille-Provence 2013 in the past, so it was for me the opportunity to do the same abroad. 2_What do you expect from your stay in Pilsen? I expect from my EVS to learn new things, to meet a lot of different people from Europe, and to travel in different countries and cities I´ve never been.
