Congratulations, Stephan, for your 20th Year Anniversary at FAIST! Stephan Schmidt joined FAIST Systeme GmbH in 1998 as a process engineer for the newly set-up plastic injection molding department. Back at that time the entire FAIST Group had less than 200 employees in total who were working basically in the two locations in Montone (Italy) and Untermeitingen (Germany). Stephan is definitely what you can call a veteran at FAIST. In the early years of his employment Stephan succeeded in developing a strong technical work relationship with FAIST’s back-then key and only customer SIEMENS Computers in Augsburg. Shortly after Stephan became the key-account engineer and manager for product development of SIEMENS computer housing products, working very closely with our founder Gianfranco Natali and Managing Director Meik Andriani. These products included sheet metal, plastic injection molding as well as various assembly techniques such as laser and other types of welding, eletro-mechanical assemblies and many more. Thanks to his hands-on and pioneering approach and while developing countless computer casings for SIEMENS, Stephan certainly made a rich and sometimes “bloody” experience when it came to burrs and sharp edges. Stephan contributed significantly to numerous patents that were successfully filed for various mechanical solutions in the field of computer chassis. In 2002, when our Group was urgently seeking to diversify its customer portfolio, Stephan was a key contributor in the development of our long lasting customer RATIONAL who is today and will be even more in the coming years a top-10 customer of FAIST Group. Also here Stephan continuously contributes and inspires with technical out-of-the-box
solutions benefiting from his vast experience in the numerous manufacturing technologies that FAIST Group represents. Stephan gets excited and motivated for a new project when others say “it’s not feasible”. Stephan has a wife and two teenage twin boys. His passion in his personal life is above others riding his motorcycle in the European Alps. The Group’s and Division’s Senior Management together with all colleagues are extremely proud of Stephan’s continual loyalty to the Company and of his highly valued contribution to the Company’s success in the past and in the present. While look forward to learning many more of Stephan’s creative ideas for technical solutions, we wish him lots of luck, success and fun at FAIST as well as in his personal life. Thank you, Stephan!

Think Different - LEAN DESIGN through clever solutions! RATIONAL is one of the historic and continuously growing customers of FAIST. There’s an average annual growth rate of 10% for 15 years. FAIST has a good reputation particularly due to the daily performance, the technical solutions provided as well as close contact to the Top Management. Since end of 2016 FAIST Systeme is in close contact with the engineering and purchasing department of RATIONAL, the world-wide market leader in professional cooking devices, in order to co-develop sub-systems and components for the new generation which starts in 2019 and will run seven years. For this generation there are in collaboration between RATIONAL and FAIST several projects in planning and realization with a tooling investment of currently fix € 1’800’000 by RATIONAL at FSYS. In the following two of these projects are highlighted: 1. Out of JUST ONE PIECE! RATIONAL requested FAIST with an existing idea to fulfil the function of the filter with a welding assembly of two components. Obviously this was the design which with they challenged the market for the best price. Instead of quoting this design the engineering department of FSYS analyzed the function and created an idea of the stretched metal. After initial calculations and presentations at the customer the idea was supported by the customer. Based on a very long collaboration with the Italian toolmaker for progressive tools FSYS together with the toolmaker detailed this idea and manufactured first samples. This technology is a real development which has got potential for further applications.

economic than years ago when the volumes were lower. The racks for the sizes with 6 and 10 plates have already been with us and have been improved for the new generation. The trolley for the cooking devices with 20 plates is newly awarded to FSYS as we offered a more economic solution than the current eastern European supplier as well as the residual market. The approach of FSYS is as in other solutions always to find the quickest method to fulfill as many functions as possible. Our manufacturing processes in this case are stamping and bending as well as castings; the final assembly will be performed on a standard laser welding equipment. As there is a high degree of automation the content of labour is very reasonable. There are additional currently confidential ideas within FAIST Group as well as RATIONAL in order to strengthen the collaboration by offering most economical technical solutions.
2. 25% BOM Reduction! Due to the two digits growth RATIONAL is with support of FAIST that for many devices a more industrial approach is more
Faist Trolley consists of 76 individual parts, versus current trolley wit 97 individual parts.

Talent development: we start with students! At FAIST Light Metals we know that technological innovation and efficiency for processes are key elements for any company, just as much as we know that both are intrinsically dependent on human capital worth. That is why we have always invested in training courses and collaborations with universities all over the world; we strongly believe in talents development, starting with students. In our plant in Mexico, we initiated a close collaboration a few months ago with Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Silao. This involved internship projects for five students, involving them in different areas such as production, quality, supply chain and safety, all focused on continuous-improvement activities. Our philosophy is to involve trainees who can support our work directly in several specific projects, yet also put them in the position that they can learn a lot from us, as we provide several training sessions on different key topics. It’s a mutual learning opportunity, and also this approach creates a network of people across different locations, who learn from each other and share projects in a multicultural working environment.

Students visit from Engineering University of Sibiu 23 May 2018. We want to grow and educate the new generations and also develop partnerships with technical Universities. 50 students from Sibiu had visited our factory in Romania in May. Our colleague Andrei Postolachi made a presentation about tool simulation process. The students who came from over 300 km to visit our plant, were very interested in our processes and put a lot of questions regarding our activities, clients and technologies. After Andrei’s presentation, they did the factory tour with our engineers, whom had explained the entire process and presented the products we produce.
My Experience at FAIST Light Metals by Omar Gori. I had the opportunity to be part of the FAIST Light Metals family as a trainee in the corporate finance team. This represents for me an exceptional opportunity, giving me an unrivalled chance of growth, both from a professional and personal point of view. Indeed, during the development of the project, that takes place between FAIST Mekatronic and the Toolshop in Bologna, I have the possibility to be in close contact with managers, with very different competencies and backgrounds, from whom I can clearly feel that I am continuously learning, day after day. Furthermore, in a global environment as FAIST is, I have the opportunity to face several different cultures, and this I believe is by itself a great opportunity of personal growth and learning. In particular, during the internship, I will spend many weeks in Oradea, Romania, where the corporate finance team is located, having then the possibility to enter in close contact with the local culture and customs. Going more into the details of the project, the assignment is related to corporate governance, and its aim is to create a map of the main business decisions, in order to have a clear framework of who are the referents that must be involved in the decisionmaking process. With this project I can see a direct application of the concepts that I have learned at the University, but, at
the same time, I feel that this is an important experience to have an understanding of how much more complex the reality is, compared to what we study in the books. I would strongly recommend FAIST to those that are willing to challenge themselves and are looking for a working experience that can truly be stimulating and a great learning opportunity.

Team building FALU.
10 years in FMKT.
Last May the Team Building session took place where outdoor activities were performed in order to strengthen the linkage between the members of FALU, who had the confidence, conviction and courage to tell others how they are really feeling, what they are really thinking and what they really expect. The activities consisted of challenges for 2 teams that were formed not to compete with each other, but to help each other to achieve the objectives as a whole. For us, collaboration is the essential ingredient for a team to operate in the high performance space. We believe team member experience compromise and mistake it for collaboration. For this reason, FALU organised this event to develop sense of collaboration. Now we have more knowledge about ourselves and we have the confidence to ask for support to achieve the objectives of the organization. This has only been the beginning to perform as a high performance team.
We have celebrated, as usual, our colleagues Casau Adrian and Sturza Cristian for 10 years in FMKT. We appreciate their loyalty and commitment to our organization and we hope to have more celebrations like this every month. As a sign of gratitude for their involvement, our colleagues received a vacation voucher to relax and enjoy this summer season with their loved ones.

Mother’s Day in FALU. In Mexico, in May we celebrate Mother’s Day and in FALU we are proud to have the effort of mothers who come to the company every day to carry out their work with the same dedication and affection they give to their families. This day, the mothers enjoyed an atmosphere full of music, conviviality and laughter, accompanied by a delicious meal. At the end, they received a lotion and, again, we recognised their work inside and outside the company.
