In The Begin— ning

ORBE ON THIS D AY ( F O U R T H O F J U LY ) 2 5 YEARS AGO We looked a little different, we

started our journey as a couple of

friends deciding to give owning a hair salon a go.

Not really having any foresight on

what our future held, we were however so driven by a passion and love for our craft and our industry.

We are so proud to be still here 25

years later! We have created beautiful looks for TV, Fashion Runways—

both nationally & internationally— numerous fashion shoots, and have had so many amazing experiences.

However nothing is more special

than the support we have had by so

many of our clients. We are eternally grateful that we have built so many beautiful relationships.

Training and education has always

been of a high priority, shaping the

careers of many young people. We have

seen over 50 stylists become qualified,

so thank you to our teams past and present.

We now have two stunning salons

in Norwood and North Adelaide, and a

very big thank you to Steph for ORBE Beauty at Norwood.

And another thank you to all who

have helped create our magic

LVL YO U R B E AU T Y ROUTINE IS ABOUT TO GET A WHOLE LOT SHORTER LVL stands for length, volume and

lift. One of these words appears on

pretty much every best mascara on the market. It’s very rare that all three will

appear together, because that would be crazy. Imagine a product that could lengthen, volumise and lift at the same time!

They might claim they can, but if

it existed, everyone woman on the planet would use it. There may not be

a mascara that can do all three, but there’s something called an LVL Lash Lift, or LVL Lashes as they are also

known, that can quite literally do all three things.

Here’s everything you need to know

about this brilliant, and we mean brilliant, lash lift treatment:

This is a healthy lash lift and tint

which leaves the lashes damage free, giving you the look of mascara without

even having to apply it! It lasts around 6-8 weeks depending on your own growth of lashes, we recommend that you use the lash and brow conditioning serum alongside it which is packed full of nourishing goodness!

Treatment: $90 (takes ~40mins) Conditioning Serum: $50

Platinum Blonde THINKING ABOUT GOING P L AT I N U M ?

It’s been everywhere on Hollywood

and a commitment to keeping your hair

Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, these

the following rules and you will have

red carpets, on Instagram, on Kim ladies have certainly pushed boundaries, have you ever wondered “Can I even pull off that hair colour?”

A very valid question; we say break

the rules from time-to-time. We’re

not saying that platinum will suit everyone, but if you are thinking of

not only achieve the look but maintain the condition of your hair.

Rule 1: The colour transition needs

to be gradual. Platinum isn’t possible to achieve in one appointment for brunettes. “Patience is key,”

Rule 2: Preserving your colourists’

hard

work

investment

and

your

in-salon

If you decide to go ahead with your

platinum makeover, get ready to put

some effort into maintaining it. Being

an artificial blonde isn’t easy - you’re likely to spend up to three or four hours

in the salon to get your colour done,

not to mention the money that you’re spending on the appointment itself

There’s some effort required to keep

that colour looking fresh, as well as

a commitment to be using the correct

in-salon treatment service as part of the lightening process. You have to be

prepared to use the best products. The Goldwell Kerasilk Range will assist in the home maintence, it goes hand in

hand with this extensive service and just looks after the integrity of the hair.

While we also recommend keeping

some purple shampoo and conditioner to keep brassiness at bay this applies to anyone who has any kind of lightened or blonde hair.

The following are all different

strengths so speak to your stylist to see what would be best suited for you.

• Goldwell Dual Senses – Blondes and Highlights

• Kevin Murphy – Angel Wash • Milkshake –Silver shine

Anyone who has hair that’s been

lightened should have a regular toner in a salon every four weeks that will extend the life of their colour.

Rule 3: Have your hair cut regularly

To ensure your blonde hair continues

to look fresh, we recommend a haircut

every six to seven weeks. Also having a

few layers added throughout the interior of your cut to add lift and energy to your hairstyle so it won’t sit flat.

So there you go! If you’re looking

to change your hair colour from brown to a platinum shade, don’t expect it to

happen in a day, and make sure you’re prepared to invest the time and effort in

maintaining the colour. You will totally love it!

When you close your eyes and think

of ‘90s fashion, chances are you are

picturing something from 1994: a killer

black dress held together by safety pins, dark red lips and nails, and Jennifer

Aniston’s iconic Friends haircut. But what else made 1994 so great? Here’s

a look-back at the year’s best style and pop culture moments

Vamp is the colour of the year for

nails! The new sassy, sexy ruby red Vamp nail polish was everywhere. And

the Chanel shade is really unforgettable on Uma Thurman in the 1994 hit film Pulp Fiction

The bra came out from hiding when

Sassy Sarahs—as in Jessica Parker

and Michelle Gellar—got away with

wearing nothing on top but a bra. And somehow, the look caught on.

MTV’s first shocking kiss caused a

frenzy when Lisa Marie Presley and

Michael Jackson famously kissed at the MTV Video Music Awards. The couple

had secretly married in the Dominican Republic that same year.

Supermodels said no to fur thanks to

the animal activist organisation, People

for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Christy Turlington and Naomi

Campbell posed naked on billboards

with the slogan “I’d Rather Go Naked than Wear Fur.”

The Wonderbrad lifted us up! The

Wonderbra and the Super-Uplift—

which offered sudden cleavage without implants—made it big! Considered modern miracles, these push-up bras began to account for 10 percent of the bra market.

The popular unisex scent CK One

by Calvin Klein landed on the scene

and spurred an international buzz. If that wasn’t enough, the sexy black and white ads starred Kate Moss and Marky Mark (aka Mark Wahlberg).

Fashion Trends Accessories can either make or

break an outfit. So, it’s essential to

ensure yours are on-point every time. Of course, choosing the perfect bag,

shoes and sunglasses can be a challenge

without the right inspiration. If you’re ready for some fresh inspiration, take a look at the best accessory trends from the Spring/Summer 2019 Fashion

Weeks. These are the looks spotted on the streets of Milan, Paris, New York

and London during the Fashion month of May.

Purple Feet

Street style stars put their best foot

forward in some seriously striking

footwear. Undoubtedly, one of the best

and most eye-catching shoe trends

of the month was the colour purple. Unique and unmissable, bold purple

shades graced an incredible array of footwear styles, including sneakers, pumps, boots, and more.

Sunglasses with Angular Frames

In 2019, sunglasses looked sharper

than ever. Instead of the usual round

and oval styles, this season saw an assortment of beautiful angular frames. From

triangles

and

rectangles

to

diamonds and hexagons, the trend came in a variety of shapes. However, what

they all had in common were straight edges, defined corners and an utterly cool

appearance.

Naturally,

these

glasses will be the chicest way to shield your eyes this summer.

ORBE Winter 2019 • Page 20

Futuristic Sneakers Sneakers

have

long

been

the

footwear of choice for many industry

icons during fashion week. After all,

darting between shows and meetings can get exhausting in heels. This season,

however, the usual cast of comfortable, lace-up shoes took a turn towards the futuristic. From metallic and multi-

coloured designs to supersized styles

with sleek curves, this season’s sneaker selection is fit for the space age. Snakeskin Boots

Prints were massive for the Spring/

Summer 2019 show season and, along

with gracing many garments, they also

appeared on accessories. One of our

favourite examples is the snakeskin boot. As fierce as they are stylish, these sleek boots were worn by style set members on the streets of Milan,

New York and Paris. To soften their appearance, they were partnered with ladylike ruffle dresses and long coats. Shrunken Bags

These bags were as cute as they were

small. So, provided you don’t need to carry more than your phone and credit card, be sure to give this trend a try. Pearls, Pearls, Pearls

Jewellery designs turned ladylike for

the S/S 2019 show season with pearls

appearing on plenty of street style stars. Of course, it wasn’t your grandma’s

pearls that these fashionable ladies were rocking. These pearlescent pieces were contemporary and full of attitude. To wear the trend yourself, embrace an

assortment of pearl jewellery pieces,

such as statement earrings, layered necklaces, hair berets, and bracelets. Also, make note that pearls don’t

always have to be perfectly round to be pretty. Sometimes, a more natural shape looks even better.

Page 21 • ORBE Winter 2019

Hair Trends It’s been seen all over the world

at various fashion weeks and now it’s time to come into your wardrobe. Coming in so many shapes, sizes and

even messages, there’s no excuse to get involved in the trend. Start clipping! Bobby Pins

Bobby pins have never been so

fun. The key to pulling off this look is wearing as many as possible—you

really can’t go wrong with some bobby pin free form.

Pearls, Pearls and More Pearls

A pair of simple pearl hair slides

suddenly makes a casual daytime outfit

feel so chic. Style with additional pearl jewellery for added trend points. A tiny

update to our wardrobes, that we can’t stop talking about.

This may look like a bridal hairdo,

but in fact, it was a look championed by

blogger

Andrea

Rognstad

at

Copenhagen fashion week. It offers

a fun contrast to her heritage checked trench.

work on none other than the closing show of the queen of Australian

fashion; Carla Zampatti. Always a full day, working with a truly talented team from salons around the country. We also

had the opportunity to get up close and
