Washington - El Servicio de Impuestos Internos anunció que la temporada de impuestos de la nación comenzará el lunes, 23 de enero de 2023, cuando la agencia tributaria comenzará a aceptar y procesar las declaraciones del año tributario 2022.

Se espera que se presenten más de 168 millones de declaraciones de impuestos individuales, y la gran mayoría de ellas se presentarán antes de la fecha límite de impuestos del 18 de abril. Las personas tienen tres días adicionales para presentar este año debido al calendario.

El IRS insta a las personas a tener toda la información que necesitan antes de presentar una declaración de impuestos. Official start of tax filing season

Washington – The Internal Revenue Service today announced Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, as the beginning of the nation's 2023 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2022 tax year returns.

More than 168 million individual tax returns are expected to be filed, with the vast majority of those coming before the April 18 tax deadline. People have three extra days to file this year due to the calendar.

The IRS urges people to have all the information they need before they file a tax return. Filing a complete and accurate tax return can avoid extensive processing and refund delays as well as avoid the possibility of needing to file an amended tax return.

In addition, the IRS encourages people to carefully review their tax situation to make sure they don’t overlook important tax credits they may be eligible for, like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The IRS has set a special day on Jan. 27 to encourage people to make sure they understand the important benefits of the EITC, a credit that can help low- and moderate-income workers and families.

The IRS has a variety of free services available to help people. The IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs also offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. People can also get help from trusted tax professionals, commercially available tax software as well as IRS Free File, which provides free electronic filing of tax returns.

IRS Free File will open Jan. 13 when participating providers will accept com -

pleted returns and hold them until they can be filed electronically with the IRS. Many commercial tax preparation software companies and tax professionals will also be accepting and preparing tax returns before Jan. 23 to submit the returns when the IRS systems open.

The IRS's Free File program, available only at IRS.gov, allows taxpayers who made $73,000 or less in 2022 to file their taxes electronically for free using brandname software provided by commercial tax filing companies. Free File Fillable forms, a part of this effort, is available to any income level and provides free electronic forms that people fill out and file themselves also at no cost.

The IRS anticipates most taxpayers will receive their refund within 21 days of when they file electronically, if they choose direct deposit and there are no issues with their tax return. Taxpayers should check Where’s My Refund? on IRS.gov for their personalized refund status.

While the IRS will begin accepting returns Jan. 23, the IRS cannot issue a refund that includes the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February. This is due to the 2015 PATH Act law passed by Congress, which provides this additional time to help the IRS stop fraudulent refunds from being issued.

Where’s My Refund? should show an updated status by Feb. 18 for most early EITC/ACTC filers. The IRS expects most EITC/ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by Feb. 28 if taxpayers chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with their tax return.

Kissimmee, FL - Data released today by the Florida Department of Education shows Osceola School District's graduation rate decreased from 89.7% in 2021 to 85.2% in 2022. - Ten high schools achieved graduation rates above the state average

"While we are disappointed in the overall district graduation rate, we are proud of the work our teachers, counselors, principals, and support staff have done to continue to make progress post COVID, particularly with our most vulnerable student populations,” said Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace. “We are committed to improvement this year.”

Florida's graduation rate is a cohort graduation rate, which measures the percentage of students who graduate within four years of their first enrollment in ninth grade. Non-graduates include students who have been retained and are still in ninth grade, attending adult education, received certificates of completion, received GED-based diplomas, withdrew to a contracted private school, or dropped out of school.

KUA publica el Calendario de Seguridad Eléctrica 2023

Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority publicó su Calendario de Seguridad Eléctrica 2 023, un calendario bilingüe en inglés y español, que presenta las obras ganadoras del 29° concurso anual de arte estudiantil.

El calendario, disponible de forma gratuita en el centro de servicio al cliente de la empresa de servicios públicos en 1701 W. Carroll Street en Kissimmee, presenta una variedad de consejos de seguridad eléctrica e incorpora el calendario del Distrito Escolar del Condado Osceola para una planificación conveniente.

El concurso, abierto a los estudiantes del Condado Osceola desde jardín de infancia hasta quinto grado, está diseñado para promover seguridad eléctrica entre los estudiantes y sus familias.

Este año, se recibieron un total de 1081 entradas de 21 escuelas primarias del Condado Osceola, incluyendo estudiantes de escuelas públicas, privadas y autónomas.

KUA releases 2023 Calendar of Electrical Safety

Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority has released its 2023 Calendar of Electrical Safety, a bilingual calendar in English and Spanish, featuring the winning entries from its 29th annual student art contest.

The calendar, available free of charge at the utility’s customer service center at 1701 W. Carroll Street in Kissimmee, features an assortment of electrical safety tips and incorporates the Osceola County School District calendar for convenient planning.

Open to Osceola County students in Kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote electrical safety among students and their families.

This year, a total of 1,081 entries were received from 21 Osceola County elementary schools, including, public, private, and charter school students.

A panel of judges selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – which are featured in the full-color wall calendar.

Applications now open for 2023 Summer Youth Program through CareerSource Central Florida

Orlando, FL - CareerSource Central Florida (CSCF), Florida’s second largest regional workforce board, announced applications for its interactive and engaging Summer Youth Program are n ow open. The program allows high school students (ages 15-19) to explore career paths, obtain specialized career training, and gain work experience with local businesses right here in Central Florida.

"CareerSource Central Florida’s immersive summer youth programs give students in our community valuable work experience and training to help guide them to future careers right here in Central Florida and beyond,” said Andrea Wesser-Brawner, Vice President of Special Projects at CareerSource Central Florida. “We work closely with Central Florida’s leading businesses, nonprofits and educational institutions to provide dynamic experiences that can have a lifechanging impact on youth in our community. At CSCF, we are passionate about inspiring youth and helping them be successful in their future, which is what this program is designed to do.”

La UCI del Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital recibe el premio Certified Zero

Orlando, FL - La Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI por sus siglas en inglés) del Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital ha recibido su primer Premio Certified Zero corporativo, que reconoce a los equipos que proporcionan una asistencia sanitaria de calidad y evitan daños a los pacientes en cinco áreas.

Durante 12 meses, ninguno de los pacientes de la UCI de ocho camas de Orlando Health St. Cloud contrajo una infección del torrente sanguíneo asociada a la vía central (CLABSI por sus siglas en inglés), una infección del tracto urinario asociada al catéter (CAUTI por sus siglas en inglés) o una infección por clostridium difficile (CDIFF por sus siglas en inglés).

Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital ICU earns Certified Zero Award

Orlando, FL - Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital Intensive Care Unit has received its first corporate Certified Zero Award, which recognizes teams that provide quality healthcare and prevent patient harm events in five areas.

For 12 months, none of the Orlando Health St. Cloud patients in the eightbed ICU acquired a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) or a clostridium difficile infection (CDIFF).

The elimination of those infections reduces patient harm, improves their recovery and enables a return to normal life after discharge.

“This is an amazing milestone for the Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital team, for this community and our patients,” said Brian Wetzel, president of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “For greater than 365 days, this team has not allowed a patient in our ICU — our sickest patients — to acquire an infection. That is not only a remarkable performance, but also a clear demonstration of the focus this team has on providing world-class healthcare to our St. Cloud community.”

In addition to the ICU, the Orlando Health St. Cloud Medical Unit and Orlando Health St. Cloud Surgical Unit will be recognized for their first Certified Zero Award in February.

Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital names new Chief Financial Officer

Orlando, FL - Amy Wheeler has joined Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital as chief financial officer and assistant vice president for Orlando Health Southeast Region.

In her role, Ms. Wheeler will provide financial expertise, monitor daily operating expenses, and develop key performance indicators for the Orlando Health Southeast Region, which includes Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital, Orlando Health Emergency Room - Osceola and Orlando Health Emergency Room - Randal Park.

"Amy comes to us with nearly two decades of progressive healthcare finance, strategic planning and operations leadership experience," said Thibaut van Marcke, president, Orlando Health Dr. P Phillips and senior vice president Orlando Health Southeast Region.

“She will bring talent and energy to the organization as we continue to plan for significant future growth in the Southeast Region.”

During the past six years, Ms. Wheeler served as chief financial officer for Piedmont Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Georgia. She negotiated physician contracts for the organization and oversaw construction of several projects, including a freestanding emergency department and a behavioral health intensive outpatient therapy facility.

Prior to that role, Ms. Wheeler was based in Tennessee as chief financial officer for Parkridge East Hospital in Chattanooga and controller of Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University and a Master of Health Administration from Ashford University.

Ms. Wheeler began her role as CFO at Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips and AVP for Orlando Health Southeast Region on January 9, 2023.

19na Celebración anual del Día de los Tres Reyes Magos

Kissimmee, FL - El Consejo Empresarial Hispano de la Cámara de Osceola (Hispanic Business Council of The Osceola Chamber) celebró la 19th celebración anual del Día de los Tres Reyes Magos en el casco antiguo de Kissimmee; o mejor conocido como Old Town (5770 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, Fl 34746) el pasado 8 de enero de 10:00 a.m. a 2:00 p.m.

La Fiesta de los Reyes Magos es parte importante del folclore latino. Tradicionalmente este día es muy especial para los niños, ya que es en esta víspera que reciben sus regalos. La celebración incluyó la visita de los Tres Reyes Magos; quienes fueron interpretados por turnos de 45 minutos por voluntarios que fueron elegidos por la Cámara de Osceola. El primer turno estivo a cargo

de M anny Ortega, presidente de la junta de KUA, Martin Levert; director ejecutivo de Florida Technical College y Guillermo Hansen; editor de El Osceola Star Newspaper. El segundo turno estuvo a cargo de los representantes de AdventHealth: Mary Louden, Dr. Denis De León y Alex Adams. El tercer turno estuvo a cargo de AdventHelath (TBD), Sheriff Jerry y Jon Aguello de la junta escolar de Osceola.

Los que asistieron al evento pudieron degustar perritos calientes y galletas patrocinados por Florida Technical College, palomitas de maíz; y un juguete para cada niño menor de 11 años. También se realizó la tradicional rifa de bicicletas y tabletas.

Una vez más se rindió homenaje a esta hermosa tradición y se regalaron muchas sonrisas a las familias y los niños de la comunidad.

Three Kings Day in Osceola 19th Annual Three Kings Day celebration

Kissimmee, FL - The Hispanic Business Council of The Osceola Chamber held the 19th annual Three Kings Day Celebration in Old Town Kissimmee; or better known as Old Town (5770 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, Kissimmee, Fl 34746) on January 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Festival of the Three Kings is an important part of Latin folklore. Traditionally, this day is very special for children, it is on this eve that they receive their gifts. The celebration included the visit of the Three Wise Men; who were performed in 45-minute shifts by volunteers who were chosen by the Osceola Chamber. The first shift was in charge of Manny o Manuel Ortega, Martin

Levert; Executive Director of Florida Technical College and Guillermo Hansen; Editor of El Osceola Star Newspaper. The second shift was led by AdventHealth representatives: Mary Louden, Dr. Denis De León, and Alex Adams. Third shift was manned by AdventHelath (TBD), Sheriff Jerry and Jon Aguello Osceola Schools Board

Those who attended the event were able to taste hot dogs and cookies sponsored by Florida Technical College, popcorn; and a toy for each child under 11 years of age. The traditional bicycle and tablet raffle was also held.

Once again tribute was paid to this beautiful tradition and many smiles were brought to the families and children of the community.

National Entrepreneur Center Announces New President

Orlando, FL - The National Entrepreneur Center (NEC) is pleased to announce Belinda Ortiz Kirkegard as its President. Joining the organization from her previous role as Economic Development Director for the City of Kissimmee, Kirkegard brings over 25 years of public and private sector experience to her new role.

The story of TRON Lightcycle / Run continues after "TRON: Legacy," where Kevin's son, Sam Flynn, opened a second gateway to a digital realm called The Grid. The first of these gateways he created is located at Shanghai Disneyland with the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run.

When you enter the queue for the attraction, located in Magic Kingdom, you'll feel as if you've been digitized and transported to the Grid for a special Lightcycle race. It's your Blue Team versus The Grid's menacing Orange Team program. Your goal is to be the first through eight Energy Gates and secure victory. The attraction will be one of the fastest roller coasters in all Disney theme parks worldwide.

When you enter the queue at Magic Kingdom, you’ll feel as if you’re digitized and transported to the Grid for a special Lightcycle race. It’s your Team Blue against the Grid’s menacing Programs, Team Orange. Your goal is to be the first to race through eight Energy Gates and secure victory. Kissimmee, FL - Osceola Arts is excited to announce the 18th annual National Arts Program Exhibit and Awards with over 200 artworks on display through February 5. Sponsored by the National Arts Program in support and cooperation with Osceola Arts, the exhibit will showcase artwork created by Osceola School District employees, their immediate family members, retirees, volunteers, and Osceola Arts employees, volunteers, and current students.

The National Arts Program is designed to give all artists at all skill levels, an uninhibited opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner and to compete for cash prizes. Trevor Lawrence está poco a poco entrando en la élite de mariscales, pero mucho del éxito es crédito de Doug Pederson, el coach de primer año y candidato al coach del año. Florida shines in the NFL

For the first time since 1999, all three teams from the Sunshine State entered the NFL postseason. Despite two being eliminated in the wild card round, and the other’s a big underdog in Kansas City, it was an overall positive year for the Floridians.

Tampa Bay

It will be a few months of drama in the bay, especially with the very possible departure of Tom Brady, who’s a free agent. His last words in the press conference on Monday, after his elimination against Dallas, sounded like a farewell: "Thank you everybody for welcoming me, just very grateful for the respect and I hope I gave it back it to you." Tom has already flirted with Vegas and Miami, and he could even retire, so Tampa must already think about a possible replacement for him. Garoppolo, Mayfield, go for Lamar, or take someone in the draft? Outside of the quarterback, the Bucs clearly need to improve their running game, the worst in the league, and perhaps make coaching changes. The Bowles-Leftwich formula didn't work, and the number of free agents is alarming. A bittersweet year, and perhaps the end of an era.

Miami

The Dolphins' entire season can be summed up by Tua's health. The quarterback suffered at least three concussions, and at the biggest moment, their playoff matchup in Buffalo, he wasn't there. After giving him their full support in the offseason,

and bringing in Tyreek Hill, Tagovailoa responded and even led the league in yards at midseason. Miami was 8-0 when Tua could finish the games (0-3 when he was absent with concussions), but in December the debacle began. 5 straight losses, plus another head injury for the Hawaiian, and the 'Phins crawled into the playoffs with their third quarterback. In the end it was Skylar Thompson who played, not badly, in Buffalo last Sunday, but Miami again came up short. Going to the playoffs for just the second time in 14 years is no small feat, but now, as in Tampa, a possible quarterback upgrade will be the theme for the next few months.

Jacksonville

There are still words to write about the Jags season, but so far it is a resounding success. From being the worst team in 2021, to winning their division and (at least) one playoff game in 2022. Trevor Lawrence is slowly entering the quarterback elite, but much of the success is to the credit of Doug Pederson, the first-year coach and Coach of the Year candidate. The Jaguars went on a roll at the right time, winning 5 in a row to reach the postseason for the second time in 15 years. But the crowning moment came with the comeback against the Chargers, from losing it 27-0 to winning it 31-30 on the very last play. Lawrence overcame 4 interceptions with 4 touchdowns to guide Jax to victory. Whatever happens Saturday in Kansas City, the Jaguars are headed in the right direction.
