Soraya Marquez, state coordinator of Mi Familia Vota, in Orlando, said that the plan to visit schools and educational campuses in Central Florida, is essential for awakening the civic awareness among the electorate, which is considered an important group for elections .

It was a successful day as, Puerto Rican student Lymarie Melendez registered that day. The student population of the school is 83% Hispanic, most of Puerto Rican.

Soto praised the idea, "I think this the beginning of a chain of events leading to the identity of the individual, we are raising them now, we need more participation and especially when they go to vote, to use reason and logic."

Meanwhile, Otero, urged young people to register, "their questions got my attention, they are attentive and want to be heard".

Osceola - Carreteras / Roads Próxima semana inician mejoras viales en John Young Parkway Kissimmee, FL - La Ciudad de Kissimmee anuncia que el Departamento de Transporte de la Florida (FDOT) y Masci Construction están programadas para comenzar la próxima semana la construcción de carreteras en John Young Parkway (State Road 600) de Portage Street hasta Vine Street en el condado de Osceola.

John Young Parkway roadway Improvements Begin Next Week Kissimmee, Fl. - The City of Kissimmee announces that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Masci Construction are scheduled to begin roadway construction on John Young Parkway (State Road 600) from Portage Street to Vine Street in Osceola County next week.

This project includes the widening of John Young Parkway from four lanes to six lanes. Work also includes drainage improvements, curb and

gutter installation, sidewalk milling and resurfacing, pavement marking and signing and signalization of SR 600 (US 17/92, John Young Parkway).

Funded entirely by FDOT, the total cost of this project 12 million dollars. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times and work is estimated to be completed by early 2018.

FDOT road-widening project begins this week in St. Cloud St. Cloud, FL - City of St. Cloud announces the start of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) SR 500 (US 192) road-widening project in East St. Cloud, from Eastern Avenue to Nova Road. FDOT, along with its contractor Jr. Davis Construction Company, Inc., will widen the four-lane roadway to six lanes. KUA - Noticias / News KUA 30º Aniversario Kissimmee, FL - En Octubre 1º se conmemora el 30 aniversario de la creación de Kissimmee Utility Authority.

En 1983, la ciudad de Kissimmee formó un comité ad hoc para determinar la mejor forma de gestionar servicios públicos de electricidad de la ciudad.

Hasta ese momento, la utilidad había operado como un departamento de la ciudad.

En 1984, después de un año de investigación, un comité ad hoc presentó su recomendación a la comisión de la ciudad para una autoridad de servicio independiente, y la comisión a continuación, volvió a nombrar a los miembros del comité a un comité constitutivo para desarrollar la Carta en virtud del cual la nueva utilidad operaría.

KUA Marks 30th Anniversary Kissimmee, FL - October 1st. marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Kissimmee Utility Authority. In 1983, the city of Kissimmee formed an ad hoc committee to determine the best way to manage the city’s electric utility. Up until that time, the utility had operated as a department of the city.

In 1984, after a full year of research, an ad hoc committee presented its recommendation for a separate utility authority to the city commission, and the commission then reappointed the committee members to a charter committee to develop the charter under which the new utility would operate.

The following year, the city commission approved the charter and one month later the residents of Kissimmee voted 2-to-1 to accept the charter that formed the Kissimmee Utility Authority, effective October 1, 1985.

“KUA is perhaps the best investment ever made by the city of Kissimmee,” said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. “Today, the utility offers high reliability, competitive rates, strong customer satisfaction

and a steadfast commitment to the community we serve.”

As part of today’s anniversary festivities, the utility’s fleet of service vehicles made its way through the streets of Kissimmee. The convoy was led by the oldest vehicle in KUA’s fleet, driven by the utility employee with the most years of service - lineman first class Terry Luke (34 years). A special ceremony was also held that included current and past utility board members.

To mark the anniversary milestone, the utility has donated a solar suitcase through We Care Solar. The suitcase provides off-grid health clinics in developing countries with solar power for critical obstetric and surgical lighting, mobile phones, fetal heart rate monitors and other essential medical devices.

“More than 287,000 women die each year from pregnancy complications, and millions of infants are stillborn or die in the first days of life, primarily in regions with insufficient energy resources for conducting basic obstetric care,” said Welsh. “This gift is our way of spreading light and hope to others around the world.”

An estimated 4,000 ghost and goblins are anticipated to participate in our annual Trick-orTreat fun. The blazing trail begins with a check in at Toho Square where costumed kids will receive a map and a free bag to collect their goodies provided by BB&T. Our map will take participants to a multitude of downtown businesses that will hand out candy to participants. At the end of trick-or-treating, family and friends can regroup back at Toho Square to watch Pixar’s Monsters University. During the movie we will also have fresh popcorn and ice cold drinks for sale.

Later on this fall, the 2015 Osceola Arts Festival, presented

by Osceola Center of the Arts and Kissimmee Main Street, will be held on Saturday, November 14 and 15 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Surrounded by historical buildings, unique boutiques, and delicious restaurants, guests will browse through paintings, 3D art, crafts, and drawings from all around the country. There will also be a student art exhibit to showcase young talent as well as a children’s activity tent and sidewalk chalk drawing contest for local art students.

The City of Kissimmee will present the 2015 Festival of Lights Parade in downtown Kissimmee on Saturday, December 12. Guest can enjoy strolling entertainers, holiday carolers, marching bands, seasonal food and drink and an appearance by the ol’ Kris Kringle himself, otherwise known as Santa! This fun filled evening parade will illuminate the streets with dazzling floats and costumes from local community organizations and businesses.

Kissimmee Main Street will also be on hand with a special photo opportunity for families. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be ready to meet all the good little boys and girls and have their picture taken too.

In Osceola County, that means some 5,000 people are at greater risk of stroke or cardiac emergency.

Are you one? It’s important to know the facts.

Often described as a “heart flutter,” AFib is the most common heart irregularity, or cardiac arrhythmia. It occurs when the heart’s electrical impulses become erratic, which causes a rapid and irregular heartbeat that weakens blood circulation and allows clots to form.

For about a third of people with AFib, no symptoms accompany the condition. The rest often experience indicators such as palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, weakness and chest pain.

Osceola County Commissioners Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Kissimmee, FL - En celebración del Mes de la Hispanidad, los Comisionados del Condado Osceola ofrecieron una recepción el 6 de octubre en las oficinas de Tupperware Brands Corporation donde asistieron artistas hispanos junto a los Comisionados del Condado Osceola, líderes comunitarios, dignatarios, invitados especiales, y residentes.

Kissimmee, FL - In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Osceola County Commissioners hosted a reception on Oct. 6 at Tupperware Brands Corporation office where Hispanic artists, Osceola County Commissioners, community leaders, dignitaries, special guest, and residents attended.

Durante el evento, 20 estudiantes destacados fueron reconocidos con becas. La Banda de Jazz de la Escuela de las Artes de Osceola, Mariachis, un grupo de danza venezolana y el grupo Pleneros realizaron presentaciones.

Artistas hispanos reconocen al alcalde Buddy Dyer El martes 6 de octubre un grupo de artistas hispanos que son miembros de la exhibición de arte 'La Diáspora' se detuvieron para agradecer el haber dado inicio a su gira. La exposición es en la Alcaldia de Orlando como parte del Mes de la Hispanidad.

Después, la exhibición recorrerá diversas ciudades de los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico.

Sheriff News Agentes advierten al público sobre estafa de tarjetas de débito Condado Osceola - Los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola están advirtiendo al público acerca de una estafa de tarjetas de débito que se dirige a las personas de la tercera edad.

Deputies Warn Public Regarding Debit Card Scam Osceola County – Osceola County Sheriff's deputies are warning the public about a debit card scam that targets senior citizens.

At some point the mail is stolen from the roadside mail boxes and the debit cards are then used to make multiple large purchases at major retailers in Central Florida. On

• If you receive a call from an individual claiming to represent your bank, do not provide them any account information by phone and do not mail them your credit/debit card.

Deputies want to make the public aware of the scam and provide the following safety tips:

• If your bank is upgrading their security, they will not ask for your card back. Instead, they will mail you a new card and ask you to destroy your old card.

• Banks do not make special arrangements with postal service for special pick ups.

If you have received a similar call or have information about this scam, call the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at (407) 348-2222 or Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS (8477). Sheriff & Police Madre Arrestada por Negligencia Infantil y parafernalia de drogas Condado Osceola - El 30 de septiembre, aproximadamente a las 6:00 de la tarde, agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola respondieron a una residencia en Winchester South Court en St. Cloud. A su llegada, los agentes hablaron con un trabajador del Departamento de Niños y Familias quien indicó que tenía la preocupación de que dos niños pequeños hubieraa sido dejados en una residencia sin supervisión de un adulto.

Los agentes encontraron a un niño de 7 años y una niña de 4 años, dentro de la residencia.

Los agentes preguntaron al niño dónde estaba su madre, y este les dijo que su madre estaba comprando comida en McDonald.

Aproximadamente a las 7:20 p.m., la madre de los niños, Emily Almánzar llegó a la residencia. Esta le dijo a los agentes que fue a buscar cena para su familia y luego fue a buscar gasolina. Le preguntó

a su hijo de 7 años de edad si quería ir con ella y le dijo que quería quedarse en casa y jugar con los videojuegos.

Almánzar les permitió a los agentes entrar en la residencia, y ya en el interior, encontraron aparatos de cocina dejado fuera lo que podría haber presentado un peligro para la seguridad, y enchufes eléctricos sin tapones o placas de seguridad.

Mother Arrested for Child Neglect and Drug Paraphernalia Osceola County – On September 30 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Winchester Court South in St. Cloud. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a Department of Children and Families worker who indicated she had concerns small children may be left at the residence without adult supervision.

Deputies located a 7-year old boy and 4-year old girl inside the residence. Deputies asked the boy where his mother was, and he told them his mother was at McDonald's getting dinner.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., the children's mother, Emily Almanzar arrived at the residence. She told deputies she went to get dinner for her family and then went to get gas. She asked her 7-year

old son to go with her and he wanted to stay home and play video games. Almanzar allowed deputies to enter the residence, and while inside, they located kitchen appliances left out which could have presented a safety hazard, and electrical outlets without safety plugs or plates.

In addition, deputies found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Almanzar's bedroom.

Based on her statements and the evidence, Almanzar was arrested for Child Neglect, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was booked into the Osceola County Jail with $1,750 bond.

The Department of Children and Families are continuing to investigate and her children were placed in care of other family members.

Coach Charged with Battery on a Referee Osceola County – On October 3, Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to Liberty High School located at 4250 Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who indicated he was on the field refereeing a sophomore league football game for the Central Florida Athletic Association.

A call was made that upset several parents and coaches and they began arguing about it on the field. One of the coaches, identified as Leo Davis, struck the referee in the face before leaving the area. The referee sustained minor injuries. Several other witnesses

corroborated the referee's story.

Deputies were able to locate Davis as he attempted to leave the school driving his vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Deputies took Davis into custody and he told them he pushed the referee in an attempt to separate individuals who were fighting. A witness had the incident recorded and after deputies viewed the video, they determined it contradicted Davis' account of the incident.

Based on the witness statements and the evidence, Davis was arrested and charged with Battery on a Sports Official. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail with a $1,000 bond.

Más de 10,000 personas marchan por la paz del País San Juan, PR - Sobre 10,000 ciudadanos de residenciales públicos del país, se unieron a la celebración de la marcha "Juntos Por la Paz de Puerto Rico". La marcha se llevó a cabo el viernes 2 de octubre, con oraciones de líderes religiosos a través de toda la ruta en la avenida 65 de Infantería, y la presentación artística estuvo a cargo de jóvenes talentosos de los residenciales públicos.

"Esta marcha es una actividad para fomentar la unidad y la paz en nuestros residenciales. En la medida que unimos esfuerzos de todos los sectores, logramos concienciar a los ciudadanos sobre la importancia de crear espacios para el beneficio de todas las familias puertorriqueñas",

The march began at 9:00 am and swept down 65th Infantry Avenue from Zurana street opposite the San Martin Residential Basketball Park, and went through the residential Gardens Country Club, House Berwin, residential gardens in Campo Rico, to get to the ballpark residential Monte Hatillo. The event featured several prayer stops, and ended with artistic performances and messages from community leaders who stressed the importance of maintaining peaceful and safe places for families.

There Are Some Pretty Obvious Changes on the Court

Hay Cambios Muy Evidentes en la Cancha favoritos de los fans, es tiempo Orlando, Fl - El Orlando Magic lanzó su pre-temporada.

Después de dos partidos jugados hasta el momento hay algunos cambios muy evidentes en la cancha. Los Magic están jugando bajo el entrenador de Scott Skiles y él tiene la responsabilidad.

Orlando still has a long way to go if they hope to make the playoffs. It looks promising this year. And if Coach Skiles sticks to his discipline and accountability, change will be inevitable. The Magic will play the Hawks on Sunday before returning home to host the Heat on Wednesday.

Orlando City mantiene sus esperanzas de playoffs con vida Orlando, Fl - Orlando City ha logrado mantener sus esperanzas de playoffs con vida después de un emocionante partido el pasado sábado frente al Montreal Impact. Orlando se vio obligado a utilizar los primeros sustituciones cuando tanto Rafael Ramos y Tommy Redding estaban involucrados en una colisión. Ramos fue trasladado a Orlando Regional Medical Center para el tratamiento de una lesión en la cabeza y la herida en su rostro.

Redding fue diagnosticado con una conmoción cerebral y está siendo monitoreado.

Orlando City keep their playoff hopes alive Orlando, Fl - Orlando City has managed to keep their playoff hopes alive after a thrilling match last Saturday against the Montreal Impact. Orlando was forced to use early substitutions when both Rafael Ramos and Tommy Redding were involved in a collision. Ramos was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of a head injury and gash on his face.

Redding was diagnosed with a concussion and is being monitored.

In for Ramos and Redding came Luke Boden and Seb Hines.

Orlando maintained possession for the majority of the half. Cyle Larin would be the first to score in the 33rd minute of play but just nine minutes later, Montreal found their equalizer. In the second half, Orlando continued attacking looking for their next goal. Brek Shea ripped an impressive effort that hit the crossbar. Carlos Rivas followed with another impressive effort but it went over the goal. With

the only ten minutes remaining, Seb Hines volleyed the ball into the net to put all 35,421 fans on their feet.

Orlando held onto their lead and walked away with the win.

Orlando City has worked and delivered an inaugural season to be proud of. With only two games left, Orlando is still in the playoff hunt.

They were also the fastest team in the MLS to host over 500,000 fans.

The support they have received is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Their final regular season home match is on October 16th against NYCFC while their final match is in Philadelphia on the 25th.

Orlando must win both games to have a chance at playoffs but there are other deciding factors and that’s the Montreal Impact. The Canadian team has 4 games left and if they win two of those four it will knock Orlando out. The chances are slim for Orlando to make the playoffs but they are still there.
