1. INTRODUCTION We are a group of pupils of 2ºA and we will talk about Velázquez, “Las Meninas” and “Las Meninas de Canido” (Streetart), because it is more interesting, inspirational and curious. 2. VELAZQUEZ Diego Velázquez was born circa June 6, 1599, in Seville, Spain in a monarchy with Felipe III. Diego Velázquez was one the finest Spanish artists of all times. Velazquez became initially popular with his paintings of religious themes. He died on August 6, 1660, in Madrid . 3. LAS MENINAS Las Meninas is one of Velázquez´s greatest works of art. It was painted in 1656 and Las Meninas simply means, “maids of honor”. The painting represents a scene from daily life in the palace of Felipe IV. In the painting we see Princess Margarita in the centre accompanied by her ladiesinwaiting; doña Marcela of Ulloa who is speaking to Diego Ruíz Azcona; Velázquez himself painting; José Nieto Velázquez in a doorway at the back of the painting; and on the wall at the back there is a mirror reflecting the image of the monarchs King Felipe IV and Mariana of Austria. You can enjoy seeing Las Meninas in the Prado Museum in Madrid, in room 12 which is dedicated to the fantastic painter.

4. LAS MENINAS DE CANIDO There are 250 “Meninas de Canido”. Some painters who participated in this initiative are: Jorge Cabezas, Eduardo Hermida’s daughter, etc… The promoter of the project was Eduardo Hermida, he prefers Canido because it is the suburb where he lives. 5. EDITORIAL a)Antía A: THE NEW LIGHT OF CANIDO I like “Las Meninas de Canido” because is more beautiful. I think it is a project that gives light to Canido neighbourhood. Eduardo Hermida had a great idea. My favorite Menina is the one with a guitar in the head. I think that the colours and the notes drawn on the dress are perfect . By: Antía Ameneiro b) Yanedt: THE NEW INITIATIVE OF “MENINAS DE CANIDO” The idea of “Meninas” is fantastic. It´s great and draws our attention. Eduardo Hermida was the driver of the project. There are very real Meninas and others are not. This project draws tourists and curious people’s attention. You can see Meninas everywhere: on the doors, facades, walls… They can be in many forms. By: La Volvoreta

My favourite Menina is a woman´s head. Her hair is short, she has big eyes and she is painted with a lot of colours. Her nose is big but her mouth is small. She is serious. c) Anxo :

THE ENERGY OF CANIDO

I like ”Las Meninas de Canido” because it is a very funny way of decorating the houses and give a bit of art to a village which is very old, so some painters came from other places to paint. In Canido there are more than two hundred Meninas. My favourite Menina is a puzzle made of different colours blue, green, red and yellow. It was painted in a house in 2013. By: Fermin Goiriz Diaz

d)David Meninas Canido I like this project, because the people can express their feelings and publish their artwork for the world. Eduardo Hermida is the driver of this project .The school trip was wonderful, because. I spent the time with my friends and teachers watching these artworks . This Menina, for me , is fantastic because you can be part of the artwork . You can sit in his legs and make a selfie , as if you were the original author of the meninas. By: David Maceiras

bec ause the neighborhood is more beautiful now. I love his painting style. ¨Las Meninas de Canido¨ project draws a lot of people´s attention. My favourite Menina is very modern. It expresses a current scene. It's very colorful and I like the colorful things.
