1. Guideline: In this photo we can see, 6 boys who may be between 1012 years old and 2 boys who are younger and may be 56 years old . It seems as if they are in a scrapyard having fun. In the background we can see, some buildings. In the middle of the photo there is a boy (who was) jumping and somebody took the photo when he was in the air.

Gloria: I think that the children were playing in a scrapyard, they were having fun and playing. In the background we can see some poor buildings behind the cars. Some boys were looking at the cars, jumping (over the cars) and walking on them. May be the children have finished school and when they are playing in the street they see a scrapyard and they go to see all the things which are there. In the photo there is a boy who is jumping. I think that (the boy who was jumping) he felt to the ground and he broke his arm. A friend helped him and (he went with him) they went to the hospital.

Marcos: I think some children were escaping from someone. The boys are escaping in the moment that the photographer took the photo. In the background there are some poor buildings behind the cars. I think they were boys who wanted to go to a place where other people / children couldn’t go. Someone was looking for them and they were scared so they decided to escape. If they jumped over the cars maybe they could go to another place which the person who was looking for them didn’t know. We think that the boy who is jumping felt to the ground and he broke his arm. Then a friend helped him and went with him to a hospital.

1.1 Clothing They are wearing shorts and a tshirt, but these aren’t from this epoque, these clothes are from the 60’s, when they were little. The clothes of normal boys, who are playing or something similar.

1.2. Pose They are standing or jumping. They are playing, and having fun, but we don’t know if they are happy, but we think so. Their attitude is positive and his body language is normal.

1.3. Expression They are playing and jumping. They are feeling happy and excited. It looks like they aren’t thinking in this moment, as if they had forgotten all their problems. They are only playing. The photograph suggests that they are having fun like kids, what they really are.

1.4 Point of view The photographer’s point of view is from the floor. He is in front of a car where we can see a boy jumping, and other boys playing. He is crouching because the ground is next to the camera and not too far. The photographer was looking at the subject and he was near but not too much. The photographer took the photo from bottom to top to make us feel that they are at the top.

1.5 Lightning The light is natural because the photographer is using the light (that comes) from the sun, but in some places it's dark, the light in general is hard and contrasty. All the picture is clear except the part of the buildings, this is blurry. The light in the picture draws your attention to the boy who is jumping. It looks as if it was spring because of the light and the weather.

1.6 Framing & Cropping The framing is focused on the cars and the children playing with them. It looks like a poor street, as if it was a war some time ago. Maybe he wanted to focus to the boy who was jumping but he wanted that the rest of the children were in the photo too. The boy jumping draws people's attention. With this cropping you only look at children, nothing else and don’t look to anybody. It only appears the boy who is jumping with his friends.

2. Story of the picture Understanding the context and intended use of the photograph They are Bosnian boys playing in a destroyed Sarajevo. If Gervasio Sánchez’s photos teach something is that children are children in all the situations and in the minimum opportunity the play and smile. Maybe is a characteristic of the species, an instinct of survival that it push us to play and to the friendship.

2.1 Finding meaning The photograph tells us how children although they are in a war, they play. The cars upside down and the boys playing are the thing which most impact in the photo. It makes us think how children play even in the worst situation. The photographer makes us feel lucky because here there are no wars. We think they are creative because they are playing with broken cars.

2.2 Symbol/Metaphor There isn’t any special symbol. We think the metaphor is that if you are a children you are going to behave like this in all the situations.
