1. Introduction I am doing this project because in this way I can learn how to “read images”, I can understand better what images show us and see all the aspects of those images, being technical or not. I can also learn how to work cooperatively in groups. 2. Formal analysis a. Observation skills i. Action In this photo I see a teenage boy with a schoolbag, walking under the rain. Before the photographer took this photo, I think that he was going home in a taxi so he saw this lonely boy walking along the street and then he took him a photo. In my opinion, this photo is recent, because of the colours and it’s well focused. It’s hard to tell where this photo was taken because this is a common street, but it seems to me that it is in a French city in a rainy night, I love France and the aspect of the street and my love for this country made me think that at the first time I saw it! I guess that this photo represents loneliness and how lonely a human being can be along his/her life. ii. Characters As the boy is holding a schoolbag I suppose that he is a teenager and I also think that because the type of his clothes look like teen clothes. 2
iii. The story behind this photograph “The lonely man” According to what I said before, maybe the boy had a bad day at school so he was sad and tired and he decides to take a walk till he wanted to go home while he was thinking about everything and listening to his favourite music. I guess that when the photographer saw this boy in the street, he felt identified, because he had already passed through the same situations as this boy did when he was young, so these emotions made him take this beautiful photo. b. Technical Knowledge i. Photographer’s point of view I deduce that this photo was taken just in front of the photographer, far away from the boy, the effect that brings the photo is that he is very alone. ii. Lightning I think that the light of the photo is natural, because it seems that in the foreground the moonlight is reflected more softly on the wet ground, but in the background the photo is darker. In my opinion, the light, and all the rest of the components of this photo mean loneliness. iii. Framing & Cropping In this frame there is a young boy walking along the street in a rainy night and I suppose that outside this frame there is only more street in this rainy night. I think that the photographer 3
only chose this frame because it had all that he wanted. In my opinion, the cropping is very important in this photo because it shows exactly the definition of loneliness, if the photographer had cropped the photo showing more people maybe it wouldn’t mean exactly the same. c. The real story behind this photograph I found his own website, but for reasons unknown to me, the photo of The Lonely Man isn’t there. But I found another styles of photos, like landscapes, urban photos, panoramic photos, portraits and also mixed media! In my opinion, he is very good in what he does, but I think his work isn’t too much maybe it is because he makes simple photos. Here are some examples:

3. Frans Peter Verheyen’s biography Frans Peter has a long experience as a designer, photographer and filmmaker. Worked in the ad world as creative director and made about 250 commercials. His non-commercial work consists primarily of "fine art photography", and short films. Frans Peter has a strong preference for non-digital photography and mixed media. 4. Conclusion Doing this project was a very important thing to me. I learnt how to analyze photos and I also discovered more things than I knew about picture art.
