1. Introduction Las Meninas de Canido We are going to talk about “Las Meninas de Canido”, a project that was started to revive Canido district, we are talking too about who were involucrated in this project, when place and how they did that. Eduardo Hermida invited other artists to paint their interpretation of “Las Meninas” by Velázquez in Canido streets. As we have said, it was a project designed by Eduardo Hermida to revive the district.
2. Velazquez Biography The life of Velázquez Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was the most important Spanish painter of the XVII century. Velázquez is recognized as one of the world's greatest artists. The naturalistic style in which he was trained provided a language for the expression of his remarkable power of observation in portraying both the living model and still life. The principal source of information about Velázquez’s early career is the treaties ”Arte de la pintura” , published in 1649 by his master and father-in-law Francisco Pacheco, who is more important as a biographer and theoretician than as a painter.
3. A short description of “Las Meninas” by Velázquez Las Meninas’ Description Starting from the left to the right, we can see Velázquez painting something that it can be the king and the queen because they are represented in the mirror behind the author. In the middle of the painting the infanta is surrounded by her servants, on the background there is a man that looks as if he is turning on a light. At the bottom there's a dog with other two servants.
4. Feature Article One decade ago started an important project 10 years ago Eduardo Hermida started a project to revive Canido's district For this he got together some people to paint all the district to incite people to come. This project is the representation of Las Meninas by Velázquez from different artists’ points of view. This project is potentiated once a year by many people that come to the district to
paint their interpretation of Las Meninas by Velázquez. They stay there 3 days to do that. In this district the houses before this project were very cheap but after that, the economy of Canido ascended because the district is full of people with good financial resources and the people want to live with them because they can support the district financially. 5. Editorial
Our opinion about this project The love of somebody for his home can be infinite
We all like this project and all it represents, it's incredible to know that somebody did that for his district. If some of us were on his situation we don`t know what we could
have done but we couldn't do that because we aren't so good at painting, maybe we would collect firms or something like that, in short, we liked so much this initiative and we would like that this could be done in other countries and districts.
Personal meninas Teo: First of all I chose this menine because I like how it was
made. It reminds me retro video games, what is something I like a lot. In my opinion this menine has one fail, the pixels are superposed and it doesn’t respect the normal pattern of a retro video game art. This Menina it only has the infanta Margarita on the foreground and a full black background. It has a pattern of only squares and, his right eye is a exception.Like retro video games it has a short palette of colours. His colours are red, white, yellow, black and brown.
Luis: I chose this Menina because it represents for me, the art in the world and the best food. This Menina is represented with the head of a mussel belonging to the marine fauna in the community. A mussel is a typical seafood from here. This Menina and this mussel are very detailed because the fusion of these objects gives us the idea of union between art and food.
Gabi: The first time I looked at that Menina it
impressed me it colours and them combination, the text is painted on her too. The second time, I saw the social media symbols around her, in the middle of those symbols the text “Time’s up”. It is painted with a tonality of blue or green that is similar to the sea,it's made of black and white too, that apports symmetry to the painting, it has a mask in one side of its head.
6. Conclusion
Conclusion of this project We learned that art is very important both for t he economy and society because in this case Eduardo Hermida has revived a n entire district only with his paintings and with the help of other artists, making C anido one of t he richest district of Ferrol.
