Our selected poem

A dream within a dream by Edgar Allan Poe Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, thus much let me avow-You are not wrong, who deem that my days have been a dream; yet if hope has flown away in a night, or in a day, in a vision, or in none, is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream. I stand amid the roar of a surf-tormented shore, and I hold within my hand grains of the golden sand-How few! Yet how they creep through my fingers to the deep, while I weep--while I weep! O God! Can I not grasp them with a tighter clasp? O God! Can I not save one from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream? 20

Why we chose this poem We chose this poem because we think that it expresses very beautiful things like unattainable dreams and that life is a dream.

Óscar’s opinion I chose this poem because I like how the author compares his life with a dream and I feel represented in the poem, how our life can be a dream and we can’t react because a dream is so real that you don’t know if the things that you are seeing are real or not.

Andrea’s opinion I chose this poem because I like how the author says in this poem that his life is like a dream. In the poem I understand that the author has a dream and in this dream he is dreaming with his life. I also understand that the author has a dream and he doesn’t want that this dream escapes.

Aroa’s opinion I chose this poem because, for me, it talks about beautiful things and sometimes I think that way. I like when he represents the sand like dreams that escape from him and that he also tells that life is a dream and we are dreaming within that dream.

About the author On January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an American writer, editor, and literary critic. Poe’s parents died before he was three years old, and John and Frances Allan raised him as a foster child in Richmond, Virginia. During his life, he wrote different poems: “A dream within a dream” (1820), “Spirits of the death” (1829), “Sonnet-to Science” (1829), Dream-Land (1844)... On October 7, 1849, he died.

Conclusion We learned so much about poetry doing this project and we had fun writing and illustrating our poems. We discovered that we can do beautiful things, just with our imagination and a few minutes. Now we know that with some words, you can provocate any feeling on the people.
