1. Introduction In this project we are going to talk about poetry, and to analyse a poem and the feelings it transmits. First we wrote a dada poem in pairs, afterwards some acrostics and haikus. We draw a calligram too. We chose the Patrick Kavanagh poem “In memory of my mother because it makes us feel how the author feels remembering his mother.

3. Our selected poem In memory of my mother by Patrick Kavanagh I do not think of you lying in the wet clay of a Monaghan graveyard; I see you walking down a lane among the poplars on your way to the station, or happily Going to second Mass on a summer Sunday you meet me and you say: 'Don't forget to see about the cattle - ' among your earthiest words the angels stray. And I think of you walking along a headland of green oats in June, so full of repose, so rich with life and I see us meeting at the end of a town On a fair day by accident, after the bargains are all made and we can walk together through the shops and stalls and markets free in the oriental streets of thought. O you are not lying in the wet clay, for it is a harvest evening now and we are piling up the ricks against the moonlight and you smile up at us - eternally.

4. Our opinion about the poem We think this poem is very emotional and it reflects the affection of the author for his mother. The author, throughout the poem, remembers the happy moments with his mother and not when she died. We chose this poem because the author is always positive and we like this aspect so much. In our opinion he doesn’t miss his mother because she is living in his hearth. We like a lot how he expresses his feelings.

5. Poem language In the poem, the author used a very rural vocabulary, for example it speaks about the harvest evening or the days that they spent in the fair. Sometimes it was so difficult to understand the meaning of the poem but if you try, you can do it. The author used a very positive vocabulary too, and it’s something very difficult to use when you are talking about your mother’s death.

6. Poem theme The poem is about the memories of the author’s mother. The author remembers the happiest moments he spent with his mother. He also describes her best qualities, the places where they were together and what he used to do with her. He expresses that he keeps her in mind. He gives more importance to the best memories than to his mother’s death.

7. Author’s biography Patrick Kavanagh is from Ireland. He was born on 1 October 1904 and he died in 1967. His first publication was in the Dundalk Democrat and the Irish Independent in 1928. Kavanagh wanted to work with Russell. Firstly, he rejected it. Kavanagh kept trying and finally, Russell was his literary adviser. His first collection was released in 1936. This collection was “Ploughman and Other Poems”. This collection hadn’t triumph. He thought that in London he had been treated as a farmer and not as the talented poet he thought he could become. In 1949 he wrote a monthly “Diary” for Envoy. Kavanagh referred to this period of his life as “poetic rebirth”. In this time, he published his own journal. His name was Kavanagh’s Weekly. He treated themes like Literature and politic. It was financiated by his brother, Peter.

9. Conclusion We enjoyed so much doing this project, because poetry is something that we do not usually read and with this project we learnt a lot about poetry and we started to read some poetry. In our opinion this project is very different from others because we don't usually do this kind of projects. And in this one we had to use a lot our imagination and creativity. And we had to read between lines to understand the meaning of the poem.
