Introduction The project is a good form to analyze films. We can see many pages in internet where they give their opinion and they can help us.

We started this project, talking about the parts of the film. We commented the film synopsis and we gave our opinion about that. We described one character that we had chosen. Talking about his/her characteristics and functions in the movie.

Film synopsis The film is about a man and his six children, they live in the middle of nowhere, in a forest, and they live like animals, they hunt and fish like the prehistoric humans, they grow their own food and they study with their father and they have a very hard training every day. Their mother is ill and she is in a hospital, but finally she dies. When the father receives a letter telling that, he tells it to the children. In the letter the grandfather tells that he will bury her in a catholic way, although she is a buddhist. The children want to go to the burial to save their mother, but it's impossible, their grandfather buried her without permission, so in a crazy moment they go to the cemetery and they keep the coffin of his mother to burn it, as she wanted. The film is about the individual and emotional problems of a family and children that had a very hard life with their mother's death. This is a problem that a lot of people have suffered, but in the film there's something strange, because they live in the middle of the forest, like animals. The film proceeds chronologically, starts with the mother´s death and finishes with all the family but the oldest brother, that is in the university, in a country house, doing a normal life. The film in our opinion has a climax, when the grandfather wants that the children live with him . But finally he didn't get it.

We think that the film has a closed ending because it finishes with all the family in a normal house without problems and with a normal life.

In the film we think that there isn't any narrator, we follow the story between their characters, that we know physically and emotionally too, because they are expressing their feelings all the film. In the film there isn't an over voice or an authorial voice. In our opinion in the film there isn't any humor because sometimes it's a very sad film with the mother´s death. And there aren't any ironies either. In my opinion all the characters are important, and the main idea of the film is about how their life is after the mother´s death and the problems that appear. The action takes place in the United States, nowadays, it's an actual story. The setting starts after the main characters discover that their mother died after that they start with some problems that they have to solve. In the film there are songs and music but in my opinion the music in this film, doesn't matter. Except when they burned their mother, that they sing all together “Sweet child O´mine”. The film, we think, is a drama because it's a hard story although sometimes it has some parts of comedy.

Characters: Ben

Ben, is interpreted by Viggo Mortensen. He is a very worried men, he tries that his children can be self-sufficient. He teaches them philosophy values, and tries that they don't belong to capitalist society, and human values like the respect and the effort. I think that he wants that all they get, will be with their effort. I think that he sometimes is a little strange, because nowadays most of the people want an easy and comfortable life. But he chooses the difficult life, when he teaches his children the important things of life, and as he demonstrated to his sister, their children are more intelligent than the rest. With this character I learned that we have two options in our life, to be who the society wants, or to be free and learn some important things that we don't usually learn. I think that the example of the father is extreme, it isn't necessary that we live in the forest, hunting and fishing but sometimes I think that going out of the bubble of the society and learn by ourselves is good for us. His behavior sometimes is credible and sometimes isn´t, for example to live in the middle of the forest isn´t so much credible, but in the other hand to try to teach to the children the real important things in life, is something typical in some families.

George Mackay is a 27 years old British actor, who has 13 years of career and filmed the total of 21 series and movies. In the film Captain Fantastic he plays the character of Bodevan, alias “Bo”

Bodevan is the older brother of six sibling, together with his father is the other member most responsible for the family, after the death of his mother becomes a great support of his father although he demands great pressure on him. Bodevan tries to be an extroverted boy and relate. He is an exceptionally gifted teenager and he was reinforced with routine of study based on books. After a stop at a campsite, Bo meets a girl of the same age, he tries to relate but because of his lack of social integration, he behaves like a literary character and he only gets that people don't take him seriously. As the movie is progressing, he realizes that applying everything he has read in books doesn’t help him, and he wants to change his lifestyle. His first and great issue was to sign up at the university. The character of Bodevan teaches us that life isn't only learnt in books and that one must always relate to learn what doesn´t come in the books.

Rellian

I will proceed to describe my character, he is Rellian Cash interpreted by Nicholas Hamilton. Rellain is the medium brother of the rest. He has many behaviours’ changes, at the beginning when his mother dies, he hates his father, because he thinks that it was him who killed his mother. But along the story his behaviour evolves and at the end he wants to help his family with his mother’s burial. He doesn’t talk a lot in the film, and doesn’t receive too much importance at the beginning either. When he decides to leave home, and go to his grandparents’, the rest of the family doesn’t understand that change.

Rellian has long blonde hair and a little slanted eyes. He is the member that tries to dress as ‘normal’ as possible. In most scenes he wears short trousers. With this character, we can learn that, apart from the knowledge acquired in school subjects, it is also important to learn how to develop skills in order to socialize with people. Rellian thinks that life in the city is better, he tries to explain it to the rest, but he doesn’t know how to do it. The character is realistically depicted. The director describes him as a serious character. I think that I judge him for, the behaviour that he shows towards his family. However he says something that is true that they have to be in contact with civilization.

Nai

I really like the character that I decided to talk about, he is a little kid, and I like when he had no clothes and he didn't mind what everyone could think about it. He is like the cutest one, and the director wants to make us think that he is adorable. And you can see when the father was talking to one of his big sisters about violation and he asked his father what was the meaning of this and then when the father answered the question he asked again, but he asked the meaning of sexual intercouse, but I really liked when the father answered those questions because he answered without any taboos, normally, and I think that this is the real way to teach a kid.

He is smart, but I think that he is normal, he is not better that the other kid of his age, because if we compared his sister Zaja, it is obvious that she is too smart, and she is soo little too. But I think that Nai is so funny, and he makes everyone laugh. Nai is really brave, because when their father tells the kids that their mother died, everyone cried, of course, but when they did their own funeral, he says “goodbye mom” and he presses the toilet, and he was having fun like their mom wanted, and I think that trying not to be sad and be happy is so brave. I don’t know if Nai is really consistent about what is happening, because I don’t think that the father has explained everything in detail. I can say that this character doesn’t change a lot, maybe I can say that he changed because he looks a little bit bigger, and he looks less childish, to say something.

9 Poster analysis At the top of the poster we can see some chunks of critics, below it´s the title and between the title and the awards the slogan of the film “He prepared them for everything except the outside world”. Down all it´s the cast and also the sentence “this summer”, and it indicates that it´a teaser. The poster shows us the members of the protagonist family, Ben, Bo, Kielyr, Vespyr, Rellian, Zaja and Nai dressed with the clothes for their mother's funeral. On right we see the bus that the family used as a means of transport. We think that this background could mean that they are alone because they don't have any other relatives, but they are together. In our opinion we think it could be a message to all the families, because it is so important to be together, and we should always count on our family. The poster uses neutral and natural colors, it has a lot of exposure and contrast and it has a little saturation. And we think that they used subdued colors in the background and the bus to underline the intense colors of the family clothes.

We think it's a perfect example trailer of Captain Fantastic for the next reasons. It compiles many scenes where the characters express themselves in an excited way that makes a strong attraction to the viewer, in spite of that the trailer takes good moments it doesn't reveal the plot. The start of the trailer is calm, so it is taking strength as the seconds pass, but reserving the end of the movie. A point in favour is that just as the planes are becoming more intense, the music also goes in “crescendo” It gives us a clear and concise information about the plot of the film.

“When you have sex with a woman, be gentle and listen to her. Treat her with respect and dignity even if you don't love her”. Our group have made this dialogue because we believe that it would be a conversation that Ben could have in the film, since he often touches the subject of sex education in a very direct way. Supposedly it is the day of Noam Chomsky and Ben gathers his children to give them some gifts, when the little brother of the family, Nai, opens his gift, the middle brother, Rellian has a dispute with his father because of the supposed inappropriate gift that gives him to Nai. Nai: “the pleasure of sex”, is this real? Ben: Yes, why not? It’s really important to talk about this issues without fear. Rellian: This is a joke, what will “the pleasure of sex” help him? Why do we have to read books about sex? It’s a bullshit. Ben: When you have sex with a woman be gentle and listen to her, treat her with respect and dignity even if you don't love her. In the same way that I want your sisters to be respected, I want your brother to respect women. Rellian: Okey… Ben: We should all have information about sexual relationships and be able to enjoy them, you know? Rellian: Yes Dad.

Conclusion This project has been very efficient, apart from reinforcing our english, we learned to analyze movies, and now, if we watch the trailer of a movie, we can understand more, we can know why the trailer is like this, and we can really know if it's a good movie or not.
