1.Introduction

1.1-Why we chose this painting? In our opinion we chose this painting because it’s one of the most important canvas all over the world, for us this picture express es the different parts of our life for a religious person. In that canvas we can see three parts: heaven, hell, and the garden of the earthly delights, in the last part the humanity falls into the sin.

1.2Biography The author's name is Jheronimus Bosch. He was born in 1450 near Hertogenbosch in the south of the presentday Netherlands. His dad and his grandfather were painters too, the painter was a devoted catholic Jheronimus designed the stained glass windows of the Hertogenbosch cathedral and was a recognized painter. His paintings were about the humanity, for The Bosch people fall into sins and this sentence them to hell. His clientele was made of the rich people, clergyman, noble, our Lady's Brotherhood...

3.Formal analysis The author is Jeroen van Aeken, but he changed his name to Hieronymus Bosch. The painting is “ The garden of the earthly delights.” and he painted it in his workshop, in Netherlands; but now it’s in the Prado museum. The Garden of Earthly Delights on an oil and oak panel. In the left side of the triptych ( 220 x 389cm ) , the heaven, you can see Adan & Eva with God before the sin, behind them there is the source of life. In the heaven there are a lot of birds and exotical animals that the Bosch had never seen. In the right side there is a rock with a human facial expression. In the central table ( 220 x 195cm ), the earth, there are a lot of white and black nude people enjoying from the life’s pleasure. There are a lot of birds and mouses. Some

people are eating fruits. In the pond there are fantastic fishes and strange constructions made of shells. In the right side( 220 x 97 ), the hell, at the top of the canvas there is the hell with fire and torture. In the middle of the paint there are fantastic criatures. The most important creature is the treeman. Behind the treeman there is an ice lake. Some condemned people are skating on the ice. In the antiquity the contrast between heat and cold was one of the hell torture. Stand out a birdman seated in a toilet with a bucket in the head. Some people think that he Is The Devil eating condemned people and defecates him in a well. In that well there are other character defecating gold, this act references to the greed.

3.1What we can see on it? LEFT TABLE

The font symbolizes the life created under the sins; for this reason the Science’s Tree of the Good and of the Bad is very near to the fountain. An owl presides the source, and symbolizes the evil. The rest of the animals represent: evil, clergy's stupidity passion etc CENTRAL TABLE

The fruits symbolize sexual pleasure.the pieces of glass allude the eventuality of the ecstasy. The mouses symbolize envy. RIGHT TABLE

There is a selfportrait, a symbol of sexual reversal. A very interesting detail is the critic to the Church. There are nuns transformed in pigs, and there are priests with beaks, this means that they’re bad preachers. The blocking ears are symbols of suspicion. The instruments are used like torture machines, you can see people suffering in them.

Continuing with our explanation we want to say that painting had historical connections; Jan Van Eyck transmits moralizing ideas, like the critic to the Church and the critic to the human sins.To conclude our analysis, many people analyzed the Garden of earthly delights, but we think that the commentary express better what we want to say is from José de Sigüenza and he said that: «La diferencia entre las pinturas del Bosco y las de otros es que los demás procuraron pintar al hombre cual parece por fuera; éste sólo se atrevió a pintarle cual es por dentro (...) Los cuadros del Bosco no son disparates, sino unos libros de gran prudencia y artificio, y sí disparates son los nuestros, no los suyos, y, por decirlo de una vez, es una sátira pintada de los pecados y desvaríos de los hombres».

I think that the work is very interesting, innovator for his time and It shows plenty of creativity, so the art is with a lot of quality too. The era, is the most important criteria for judging the artwork, because The Bosch lived when “The Inquisition” was all around Europe.

The canvas was a complaint about society and people’s sins and he wants to criticize the Church too. In the painting there are a variety of emotions, the left table is plenty of serenity, in the central table we can see the sexual appetite and in the right table as we can observe there is a lot of anxiety, horror and chaos. As we can understand this painting is addressed to the society in general. Bosch’s canvas had the same moralistic intention as The garden of earthly delights. The work is different from other painters of this era because they don't do the same critics to the religion, the reason is that the Church can censor their works. His ironie about the world counters and of the inexpressive realism of Jan Van Eyck . He was a master of the colour and used deformation and caricature to reveal the wickedness of their characters We think that the work is very interesting and innovator for his time. The era , is the most important criteria for judging the artwork , because when The Bosch lived “The Inquisition” was all around Europe.

4.The story behind it Warning to the man about the consequences that has the man when he enjoys the carnal pleasures, although they’re sweet and very short, like red fruits, front the eternal personality of the tortures of the hell represented in the right part of the canvas.

5.Working as an art dealer (David Zwirner & Larry Gagosian) We are important art dealers, and we want to sell “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, the buyer is the famous expolitician of the Partido Popular, (PP), Luis Barcenas. To sell this canvas we want to say that it is very modern for its epoque, it criticizes society and hypocrisy. And it is one of the most important paintings of the History.

6.Conclusion In this painting Hieronymus Bosch expresses a Mid Age style but very original. This canvas was very valued for many people and included Felipe II, some people said, as us, that the Bosch is one of the most important painters of the humanity, because he criticized the Church and he is called the "First surrealist painter" .
