Comunism (by Franco Fortini) (POEM) I was a communist throughout. Justly though, the other communists looked askance at me. I was a communist despite their certainties, despite my doubts. Justly they did not see themselves in me. . They would not admit my discipline. My centralism seemed anarchy to them. My self-criticisms contradicted theirs. Special communists cannot be: to think so is not to be so. . Justly they did not see themselves in me, my comrades. Like them, I too was enslaved. Even more so: I tended to forget it. They did their work, I followed my inclination. Exactly that: I was a communist throughout. . Despite their certainties, despite my doubts I always wanted this world ended. Myself ended too. And it was that exactly which estranged us. My hopes had no point for them. My centralism seemed anarchy to them. . As if I wanted more, more truth, more for me to give them, more for them to give me. Thus living, dying thus. I was a communist throughout. I always wanted this world ended. I have survived enough to see comrades who bruised me broken by intolerable truths. Now tell me: you knew very well I was with you? Was that why you hated me? My truth is truly needed, breathed in through space and time, heard patiently.

I.2 Objective analysis of the poem. I.2.2 Verses measurement, rhyme and structure. -This poem was translated from russian to english. So, the measurement of the verses is very varied. We can find verses from 7 syllables to 14.
-There are 23 verses with more than 8 syllables and 7 with less than 8.¿? -The poem is a free rhyme one. -There are 6 stanzas with 5 verses each.
I.2.3 Figurative language. -There aren’t any similes, alliterations, hyperboles, etc in the poem. We can find some comparisons, but they haven’t poetic meaning. For example: “My centralism seemed anarchy to them” or “Like them, I too was enslaved” He’s comparing himself and his ideas with the others, but it hasn’t a poetical objective.
I.3 Subjective analysis of the poem. I.3.2 The main message in the poem. -The voice is from a person. He’s talking about his communist comrade’s aversion to him. He has a different conception of communist theory, new ideas that are different from the typical form that ordinary people has about it. For this reason and another ones, the rest of his mates rejected him, thinking that his mind is not a communist one and it’s bad. The voice is saying that he is like them, he is a communist despite his mind and their rebuff. His ideas are just different, but they have the same objective.
I.2.4 Another message... -We can find much more examples like this in our society. We live in a world where different minds and ideas are rejected. If you are not like most people, if you have a different form of looking at life, another “strange” behaviour, you can’t be. Advertising, TV, magazines, even people have the same objective: To indoctrinate us, to make humanity an homogenous mass that has the same ideas, the same pleasures.... Why? Maybe It’s easier to control the situation, to avoid a mundial revolution against everything that oppresses us. His mates represent society, his different communist ideas represent any difference in mind... There’s another message too. It’s that we judge everything before knowing really it. His comrades simply don’t try to understand him. For this reason, I think the poem wasn’t made for communist people, but for the world in general too. Verses to think, verses to wake up.
I.2.5 About the author... - Franco Lattes (Franco Fortini) (1917-1994) was born in Florence, he was a writer, teacher, journalist, copywriter and translator. He was a defender of socialism, and a social and political change.

II.Analysis of the song: Smile II.2 Message and history in the song. -The song was composed originally by Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, for his film “Modern Times”. It was a song for violin and piano. The song was popularized in the conservatories and music academies all over the world. The first song, piano students used to learn, was “Smile”. There were many more versions of this song, with adding lyrics to it, like in this Glee Cast version. I think the message is very clear, and it’s very much associated with Chaplin’s mind. We can see that in his films, the main characters are always poor people. Also, we can find some examples of this message even in his life: He started being a poor man, working as a milkman, an errand boy, etc. The lyrics of the song, talk about fatalism, that you must try it again, to resist every obstacle that life puts in front of us. Even when everything goes wrong, we can find a light in our smiles. You'll find that life is still worthwhile If you'll just smile. Smile
