Main characters *Marzena Sowa. Usually called Marzi, she is the main character of this story. She is 10 years old. She’s very naughty, she doesn't like spiders and sometimes she doesn’t understand what’s going on around her. The “adult world” is so difficult for her. *Marzi’s mother. She’s apparently an old woman and she gets angry easily, specially with Marzena. She works at a dairy. *Monika, Ania and Magda. Marzi’s neighbours. They are sisters (possibly Monika is the oldest and Magda the younger; she’s a baby). Monika and Marzena are the same age more or less. She’s a strong girl (or she pretends it). *Andrzej and Ania. Marzi’s neighbours, they are brothers. Andrzej is the only littl e bo y in th e bu ildi ng an d An ia is always smiling. This comic really has a lot of minor characters in all episodes, like Marzi’s aunts, schoolmates, pets, etc.

I love these phrases because I think I said them once when I was a kid. • “Ania siempre está riendo, sea de lo que sea. Le haces daño y se ríe.” It was a very funny quote for me. I had some friends like Ania, • “Preferiría evitar la guerra...¡Me da igual si la gente no me presta atención! Al fin y al cabo, un día seré adulta... For me, this is a lovely argument from the child who loves peace.

Personal response I bought this book because I liked the cover. I thought it was funny. When we arrived home, I started to read it, and I discovered the real Polish world a few years ago. Marzi’s life is quiet and beautiful, but difficult too, and that’s very interesting for me. If you can’t understand children’s innocence, maybe you can’t enjoy this book.

Sometimes, Marzi is like me when I was young. 4
