Saturday 27th August 2016 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Greenwood F.C. A big welcome today for Greenwood Meadows who this week had their biggest win in a while against Holbrook, it’s good to see them finally coming out of the rut, best of luck to them today as they face a Nomads team that has had 3 good performances from 4 games, it certainly makes for an interesting match-up today. We would also like to welcome any neutral fans, officials and of course of loyal Noisy Nomads, who won’t stop singing their song until everyone in Anstey knows the words. Both teams have had success this week, Nomads travelled to local side Ellistown & Ibstock, who are having a difficult start to the season. After a very positive performance from Nomads the Saturday before against Radford, it really wasn’t hard to separate the sides with Nomads controlling much of the game which finished 5-1 to the travelling Anstey, who debuted their new sleeker kit. Greenwood Meadows were also on the road midweek, travelling to Holbrook on the Wednesday, they too dominated much of the game scoring in the 6th minute, before adding another on 22. Hosts Holbrook answered back on the 30th minute but Greenwood continued their barrage with goals on the 32nd, 52nd, 59th, 71st, and finishing up on 73rd. Today’s game is the first of two match-ups over the long weekend as we welcome Birstall on Monday. Meanwhile today’s opposition Greenwood will be hosting Dunkirk. Let’s hope for an interesting match today, both teams will be going all out to make it two wins on the trot and start a march towards the top end of the table. Whatever the result after today we’d like to wish Greenwood the best of luck for the rest of the season!

Tremendous win at Terrace Road. Nomads earn first win of the year 5-1 against Ellistown & Ibstock United. Written by Reece Preston-Hayes.
Nomads travelled to Terrace Road, home of local side Ellistown & Ibstock, the hosts have been struggling so far this season, but it is still early in the year. Anstey have a mixed start, but a draw against Radford over the weekend has boosted morale in the team. The weather was set to stay warm as the sun still in sky as we get the first half on the way, Nomads attacking the goal away from the sun. It was a good start for Nomads who started with early pressure forcing some free kicks out of the hosting side. Chris Rudkin stepped up and came close to scoring right from the dead ball, he curled the ball over the wall before it arced it’s path towards the top left corner of the goal, credit to EIU (Ellistown & Ibstock United) Keeper for a wonderful save. EIU had a very similar chance of their own just after the 15 minute mark. A late challenge set them up for a very creative free kick that veered it’s way straight for top right corner of our goal before Stef Joyce stretched himself to reach the shot and danger was averted. The first goal of the game came on 22nd minute after a dangerous play by Nomads we headed goalwards only to be denied by the post before a mystery player scored for Nomads, just kidding I know who scored and he made sure I mentioned him, so congratulations to JON ARMSON for putting Nomads ahead. Jon is also in-charge of the teams own fines with money going towards something nice at the end of the season, so I hope I don’t get a fine!!! The match remained firmly in Nomads hands for much of the second half but EIU did some decent defending to keep things as they were before the half time whistle was blown. Second half rolled on after a nice cup of tea in the committee suite for me, 7 minutes into the half Nomads doubled their lead thanks to 20 yard effort from Nick Reeves.
The hosting side struggled to gain any footing against our Nomads who were making plenty of Noise in terms of chances, so it’s no surprise when last season’s club top goal scorer Joe Hartopp beat the keeper 1-1 in a battle wits and skill. It was all doom and gloom for the Hosts who got what turned out to be a constellation goal when Nomads still celebrating and too relaxed allowing Lee Hillier to add his name to scorers list. Joe Hartopp came close to gaining his second goal of the game but this time his shot was stopped by the keeper and the rebounding effort was blocked by the defender. Zak Harris almost made “headlines” with a solid effort despite being dazed by the floodlights, the ball just couldn’t fall in time to land inside the goal. With both efforts being unsuccessful individually Joe and Zak decided to work as a unit with Zak receiving the ball after a nice cross from the wide side, he then knocked it back for Joe to hit the ball from the edge of the area and into the goal. A healthy four goal lead for Nomads but we weren’t quite finished, as legs grew tired late into the midweek game we brought on our subs. Ashley Akiens was one said substitute. Ash wasted very little time to impact on the game further extending the lead for the red and white army. An all round performance from Nomads, a solid performance at the back with unsung heroes Oliver, Sam, Jon, and Daryl regaining possession, the midfield were creative, Chris Rudders starting to find his groove, and strikers taking advantage of an out of form Ellistown & Ibstock.

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL . Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob & Jimmy lead Nomads first team to their best EMCL performance, our u18’s continued with our youth progression and a u21’s side provided further youth development. Club won Grounds award from EMCL. 2016/17 Ground overhauled with a fresh new setup for the clubhouse and surrounding buildings, the old changing rooms that we got 2nd hand in 1947 have finally gone and replaced with more modern rooms for players and officials.

It is with regret that we withdraw from the Under 18 Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth league. We have had many enjoyable times with our youth development teams this past few years and we have seen the likes of Sam Marshall, Zak Harris, Miles Price, and many more talented youngsters have come through our ranks. We hope in nearby future that the stars will align and we’ll be able to support a youth side with sufficient managers and coaches.
Programme Sponsors Needed! The Nomads are in need of new programme sponsors for the coming season, we are looking for full page, half page, and even quarter pages at very affordable rates. If you are interested in advertising your business in this seasons programme then please talk to Reece and Helen in the Tea-Bar.
Seat Sponsors Needed!! This year we are renewing the seat sponsorship scheme, as you know a few years ago we purchased new seating, to cover the costs of this we had our loyal fans sponsor a chair in their name, on behalf of a family member, or on behalf of a local business. This time around we are trying to raise funds to cover some of the hard work that has gone into ground development, please see Reece to sign your name up to the list, if you already sponsored before you have first priority to re-sponsor. It is only ÂŁ5 per seat so get your name down at your local club, fantastic!

AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON – Midweek Games! Six games on Tuesday evening brought forth 38 goals as our clubs went on a goalscoring spree that should see spectators happy. Ten were scored at Maple Grove where STAPENHILL beat visiting HOLWELL SPORTS 7-3 with Steve Hart once again confirming himself as the League’s top scorer. He followed his opening-day salvo of five goals with another four in this game and sparked off a run of six goals in fourteen minutes. Lewis Campbell had given Stapenhill a tenth minute lead, and this was followed by Steve Hart’s first two minutes later and one from Niall Dawkins on 16 minutes which gave the home side a comfortable three goal early advantage which they retained until the interval. Kieran Foster pulled one back for Holwell immediately on the restart and life remained at 3-1 until the 63rd minute. Hart got his second followed within seconds by Foster’s second. Then Chris Hibbitt nipped in on 67 minutes to pull the score back to 4-3. Within three minutes though Hart had scored twice more to take his personal tally to four for the game, and on 77 minutes Tom Liversage had made it 7-3 to end a remarkable scoring spree. The win took Stapenhill up to second in the table. BARROW TOWN dropped their first points of the season at AYLESTONE PARK, who remain unbeaten following their 2-1 win. Zak Ginvert put the Riversiders ahead on 39 minutes, but Mason Brown restored parity two minutes into the second half. Substitute Sam Carline bagged the winner for Park on the hour. Biggest win of the day came at ASHBY IVANHOE who thrashed GRAHAM STREET PRIMS for six goals without reply. Danny Quinn led the way with a hat-trick and the other goals came from Jack Ryder, Royce Turville and Luke Thorogood. There was a big win for ANSTEY NOMADS on the road as well as they beat ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED 5-1. Jon Armson got the only goal of the first half for Nomads in the 22nd minute, and Nick Reeves doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half. Lee Hillier got one back for United on 62, but a brace from Joe Hartopp and one from substitute Ash Akiens gave Nomads their biggest win of the season and keeps Ellistown rooted to the foot of the table. BELPER UNITED got their first point of the season in an eight-goal thriller with fellow newcomers WEST BRIDGFORD. Sam Vickers opened the scoring in the tenth minute and Albashir Kuri made it two just a couple of minutes later. Patrick Newsome split the deficit on 22 but Dean Oliver re-opened the two-goal gap just three minutes later. Jake Richardson and Tom Coole restored parity to the occasion before the break and the teams went in at 3-3. Sam Vickers pointed United on the way to what would have been their first three points of the season on the hour, but Tom Coole’s second goal of the game on 70 minutes left West Bridgford still unbeaten and Belper United still looking for their first win, but United will feel that things are starting to come together for them after this game. RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC enjoyed another three point haul with a 4-1 rout of much fancied RADFORD at the Recreation Ground. Ryan Smith led the way for Olympic with a hat-trick and Jake Morris hit their fourth. Substitute Conor Carter’s 52 minute goal was as much as Radford could muster in this game. If Tuesday evening’s games brought sensational scoring, Wednesday evening’s lone game probably went one – or even two – better. What a way to gain your first points of the season and record the club’s biggest away win ever in the East Midlands Counties League? A few eyebrows would be raised at the result of HOLBROOK SPORTS 1 GREENWOOD MEADOWS 7. Errol Campbell started the ball rolling towards the net for the Greens on six minutes, followed by a second from Jordan Alls 16 minutes later. Scott MacKenzie pulled one back for Holbrook on half an hour but the two-goal gap had been reopened within two minutes when Campbell scored his second of the game. Two goals from Jay Smedley and one each from Kieran Kenton-Bradshaw and Jim Hunter made it a celebration evening for the Lenton Lane side and caused Holbrook to go back to the drawing board.
