Saturday 10th September 2016 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Dunkirk F.C. A very warm welcome to our guests Dunkirk for today’s game, we have been hard at work to make The Boatmen feel welcome by putting 10 tons of sand on the pitch and getting some little wooden rafts to fill the brook. Just kidding but on a serious note our ground has changed a lot since the last time Dunkirk played here, that was way back in 08/09 season. Nomads will be looking for our first home win of the season, the past couples of weeks we have managed draws at home and on the road as well as healthy win away against Ellistown & Ibstock. Visiting Dunkirk have had a good run so far, in fact, they are the only team in the league without a loss in the league. Dunkirk also had a decent FA CUP run going making it past Leicester Nirvana and Cleethorpes Town before Lincoln United shipwrecked their hopes of going further with a heavy broadside of goals (boat jokes for the boatmen!) Our Noisy Nomads have something to be proud of as currently we sit at the top of the attendance table. In the past few years we’ve had one of the highest attendance averages as well as a healthy highest and lowest attendances above most of the other clubs. With attendances dropping slightly over the past few years around the counties, it’s good that our loyal fans can keep supporting us. Without our fans we are nothing but an empty club with no noise, so thank you to all of you for your continued support whether you’re a Noisy Nomad or a just a loyal support of your local club. So in front of one of the highest attendances in the league, at a ground that has won an award for development, with two teams that are good form, it should be a cracking matchup. I hope you Anstey, Dunkirk, and the neutrals enjoy this East Midlands Counties clash!

A draw at the Stag Ground for Nomads Nomads finished even-stevens against Kimberley Miners Welfare. Edited by Reece Preston-Hayes and Written by John Harris.
Nomads travelled to Kimberley Miners Welfare to begin a new month, recent draws at home and a healthy away win against Ellistown & Ibstock raised confidence in Nomads nook. Home side Kimberley had started of better than our Nomads had. The Miners currently sat in the upper rungs of mid-table. A win would see Nomads climb up to join the “mid-tablers. With your usual Noisy Nomad reporter taking a weekend break up-t’-north I will hand you over to John Harris, who is just as much a part of the Noisy Nomads, with his custom-made Noisy Nomads shirt with the lyrics on the back! First half was very evenly contested, with defenders mainly on top. Of the few chances created it was Kimberley that took the one that mattered, to shade the first half, when on the 34th minute Martin Lynch drove low into the corner of the net leaving Steff Joyce with no chance. The game opened up more in the second half and either side could have claimed the three points. Kimberley's main threat was from a succession of corners with the Nomads playing some exciting football on the break. One such breakaway leading to a trade mark Joe Hartopp goal on 61 minutes out stripping the Kimberley defenders with a blistering turn of pace and finishing with aplomb, leaving the Noisy Nomads ecstatic. A maze'y run by Ben Tansley finishing with the keeper making a last ditch save at his feet and Joe Hartopp shooting high wide and handsome when well placed, were the stand out moments of this half. With Kimberley feeling that they could have turned their succession of corners to more advantage both teams left the field thinking all three points where theirs for the taking, but relieved it was not all three points lost. Kimberley 1-1 Nomads
County Cup Confusion By John Harris & by Reece (so blame Reece)
With regard to our placing in this year’s County Cup, at home (another home cup game, but not the grudging issue here,) to Blaby Res in the Senior Cup. Blabys 1st Team are in the Challenge Cup, the rules state that all Step 4 and 5 clubs must enter. The remainder to be made up by invitation from step 6 clubs, this is based on league placings and performance in the previous season’s competition. Last season we finished above Blaby & Whetstone in the EMCL, and they were knocked out of the cup in the 1st round. Therefore, I think the Nomads can feel somewhat aggrieved not to be invited by the County F A to their Premier Cup Competition or is this to be expected. The only justification/excuse I can think the county F.A. could come up with, is that we had a pretty poor performance in the Leicestershire cup last year, losing out to Melton, but still doesn't make too much sense. A better way to solve the problem would could of contacted us pre-season and had an invitational play-off match at Holmes park or something between Blaby and us, certainly would of helped them to raise a little cash pre-season for the F.A. and would of been a fair way to pick who goes into what cup.
Good Luck to EMCL sides in the Vase this weekend! Home Belper United

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL . Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob & Jimmy lead Nomads first team to their best EMCL performance, our u18’s continued with our youth progression and a u21’s side provided further youth development. Club won Grounds award from EMCL. 2016/17 Ground overhauled with a fresh new setup for the clubhouse and surrounding buildings, the old changing rooms that we got 2nd hand in 1947 have finally gone and replaced with more modern rooms for players and officials.

A brief history of Dunkirk FC Dunkirk FC were founded in 1946 and their nickname is “The Boatmen.” The first league they joined was the Notts Amateur League, of which they were members until 1975. They won the Premier Division in that season, the clubs first major honour. Accepted into the Notts Alliance League, they got off to a good start, eventually finishing runners up, five years later they were champions. --- In Recent Years --During the 2010/11 season the club were left in total shock as they were left to deal with the sudden death of their long standing Chairman Jack Riley. Jack had been an instrumental part of the club for many years as everybody at the club had to pull together which they did as they again looked to push the club forward. They also appointed a new Chairman as former Nottingham Forest favourite David Johnson took on the role. After an excellent first season in step 5 football Dunkirk had fresh optimism that they could challenge at the top of the table. The 2011/12 season though saw them find themselves in an unfamiliar position as they struggled near the lower reaches of the division, only just avoiding relegation during the last few weeks of the season finally finishing in 18th position. The reserves claimed the Central Midlands League Reserve League Cup with a 2-1 win against Radford Reserves that was played at Long Eaton United’s ground. The club rebuilt again during the 2012/13 season but inconsistency was their main problem throughout the season. They did however finish in a creditable 10th position winning 18 of their 42 matches losing 16 and drawing 8. The reserves side under the guidance of Mark Harbottle claimed silverware for the second season in concession as they won the Central Midlands League Reserve Supreme Division with a very young side. Dunkirk though are once again on the lookout for a new chairman as David Johnson has had to resign from his position due to work commitments. Craig Smith has taken on this role as a temporarily measure but any interested parties who feel they can push the club onto the next level should contact any of the club officials The 2013/14 Season was a struggle throughout and in January 2014 long term managers David Harbottle and Ian Upton decided to step away from their position and in came Leigh Grant and Kuki Morley as joint Managers. Although the club continued to struggle they did however manage avoid relegation on the final day of the season claiming a point at home against AFC Wulfrunians. After a tough start to the 2014-15 season mangers Leigh Grant and Kuki Morley resigned from their positions as joint managers. The club acted quickly and appointed former captain Nick Hawkins as manger. . The clubs form continued to be poor as they languised in the bottom 3 at christmas only having 12 points on the table but a miraculous change in fortumes amd team morale occurred as for the second season running the club somehow escaped relagation on the final day of the season as they beat Shepshed Dynamo 1-0 to retain their step 5 status. The Reserve team disbanded at the end of the 2014-15 season but a new team named Dunkirk AFC was created in its place that will play in the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division. The 2015/16 season was a disaster for the first team as throughout the season they had 4 managers in charge in a very miserable campaign. The fourth manger that arrived though was former player Paul Rawden who knew he had a big job on his hands to try and save the club from the drop but after a late flourish of wins it wasn’t enough and the club were ultimately relegated to the East Midland Counties League after finishing third from bottom. Although the first team struggled the newly formed AFC team had a splendid season as this side made up of mainly youngsters remained competitive throughout the campaign and managed to claim wins over some of the more established sides in the Nottinghamshire Senior League along the way. If we can keep hold of these players a bright future looks in store for the club.

AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON – Saturday 3rd!
East Midlands Counties League interest in the FA Cup competition for this season faded at the First Qualifying Round with ASHBY IVANHOE and DUNKIRK both being hit for six. But Ashby will be delighted with their share of a bumper 693 gate at the Sports Ground for the visit of Northern Premier League Ilkeston FC. First half goals from Andy Dwyer and Dexter Atkinson put the visitors on top and a Mark Shelton double along with strikes from Louis Rose and Ben Morris completed a 6-0 win for the Derbyshire side. The Boatmen’s visit to Lincoln United also saw things go pear shaped against their Northern Premier League opponants. Matt Cotton put the home side ahead in the first minute, and Rob Norris and Jack McGovern made it three by the break, although Joel Carta had got one which kept Dunkirk in with a shout. Second half goals from McGovern, Harry Millard and Jordan Hempenstall made the final scorer 6-1. Only goal difference separates the top three in the League where BARROW TOWN held on to top spot as a result of a 2-2 draw at BLABY & WHETSTONE UNITED. It was also a game where own goals figured prominently in the scoreline. Matt Howarth’s own goal put Barrow in front on ten minutes and Zak Ginvert doubled the score ten minutes before the interval. Jack Lane put the home side back in with a chance with five minutes left before an own goal from Andrew Culver two minutes later sent the teams home with a point apiece. WEST BRIDGFORD also left it late in their game at GRAHAM STREET PRIMS where an 86th minute penalty from Carl Westcarr gave them all three points and second place in the table. Steve Hart’s hat-trick, which takes him to 16 goals for the season so far, was enough to see STAPENHILL take all three points from their visit to ARNOLD TOWN and move into third place. Hart’s first came on ten minutes and lasted just ten minutes before Kaylum Mitchell restored parity for the break. Four minutes into the second half Hart struck again and then made the final score 3-1 in the 69th minute. HOLBROOK SPORTS will be pleased to get back on the winning trail and their 2-0 success at AYLESTONE PARK was due to a 68th minute penalty from Kyle Mather and a stoppage time hit from Isaac Minott. Four goals between the 75th and 85th minutes was responsible for RADFORD recording a nap hand scoreline at BELPER UNITED. Conor Carter got the only goal of the first half just ten minutes in, and then went on to complete his threesome in the 75th and 85th minutes. Ady Hawes added number four on 80 minutes and Frazer Campbell the fifth five minutes later. A Sam Moore penalty on 17 minutes gave BIRSTALL UNITED early success in their home game against GREENWOOD MEADOWS. But they had to wait until the 85th minute to make the points save through Charlie Young. Kieran Foster and Mark Tinsley were both on target in the first half for HOLWELL SPORTS against visiting GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Kinsley added a second and Liam Chapman was also on the score sheet as Holwell ran out 4-0 winners. A second half double from Ryan Perkins and Ryan Smith was enough to see RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC home against ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED at the Recreation Ground. Lee Fell scored in only the second minute as SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC entertained BORROWASH VICTORIA and it proved to be the only goal of the game as the Shiners gained victory.
