Saturday 24th September 2016 Anstey Nomads F.C. vs Quorn F.C. A big welcome today to all as Anstey Nomads host Quorn in the 2nd Round Qualifying of the Buildbase F.A. Vase. Both teams this afternoon have a long history in the F.A. Vase, last season Anstey and Quorn both made their way through the Qualifying round of the Vase, today’s hosts Anstey were halted in the first round by Nuneaton Griff although the rather stale game only featured one goal. Travelling Quorn made it one-step further when they lost out 2-1 in the 2nd round to AFC Wulfrunians. Interestingly both teams best cup runs ended at the 5th round, it was 1995/96 when Nomads reached the peak of their run, Quorn best run came more recently, 10 years ago in 2006/07 they were stopped from going further by Whitehawk! In the league Nomads have a troubled start, still without a home win, we have made some strides away from home but Midweek games continue to punish our faith. Let’s hope that everyone will give their best to kick start a cup run. Quorn have had a better start than our Nomads, currently sat 5th of the Midland Football League but the September month has been a tough one for Quorn winning only one of their 4 games so far. It should be a fantastic cup match-up today, both teams have plenty to fight for, and it is an honour to be able to host this matchup at what has voted the Best Ground the EMCL. So for all you Anstey Fans, All you Quorn Followers, and even the neutrals, get yourself a drink, some food, and enjoy some fine football!

Nomads Edge Ahead at Eagle Valley Anstey Nomads beat Arnold 1-0 via a goal from Joe Hartopp. By Reece Preston-Hayes Nomads arrived at Eagle Valley, Oxton Road, home of Arnold Town after avoiding the temptation to go play mini-golf next door instead. Nomads came into the game with only on win under our belt so far but with some good showings on the road earning a few points from draws. Hosting Arnold sat in the fiercely competitive mid-table. Both teams were looking to gain some momentum and start to move up the table and a win would certainly help to do that, alongside boosting the confidence of the fans and players. It was a chilly day at Eagle Valley so the players would have to keep the fire in their hearts alight with some creative action, both teams started well, Nomads had a slightly strengthened squad with the return of Daz Russell to tighten things up at the back, although Sam Marshall still remains the defender with the most shine (no offence to any of the others) as one of the youngest Nomad players he certainly is tackling way above his belt and his talent is developing very well. Nomads started very positive, neat passing, keeping possession away from the hosting side. Nomads came close from a free kick which Nick Reeves delivered into the box, an Arnold defender had won the ball in the air but his header seemed like it was going to be the knock on Nomads needed to take the lead, however it just maintained altitude leading for a Nomads corner which was subsequently cleared. Arnold started to find some groove towards the end of the first half but they akin to Nomads lacked the final piece of the puzzle and with the half time whistle blowing both teams went in at the break goalless. Coming out from the break the hosts had awaken and within the first few minutes of the second period almost scored twice but good keeping from Stefan Joyce kept things level, Nomads had to regroup and the defenders regained their strength winning the ball from Arnolds strikers before they could swoop in for the kill. With pressure inside Nomads third it created the opportunity to counter attack, and with pacey striker Joe Hartopp upfront all it would take is the right ball in the right place‌ with the right finish. The Noisy Nomads would have to wait until the 72nd for that perfect combination, once again Nomads waited for the pressure to come onto them before unleashing a quick counter attack. Joe Hartopp went one and one with the Arnold keeper and slotted the ball calmly into the Arnold nest, I mean goal! Nomads almost made it 2 right after a ball from Daz Taylor was placed well for scorer Joe to get another but a slight mishit kept things at 1 for now. Nomads have struggled in the past to hold a one goal lead and with pressure still mounting from Arnold the Nomads defence had to be on top form. Time was ticking on and Nomads desperately clung onto the lead, the Referee putting an end to game and Nomads took home all 3 points. In a game with plenty of chances it took just the one to seal a win but it could have quite easily been for either team. Arnold 0-1 Nomads
Midweek Misery for Nomads Midweek loss for Nomads dampens spirit. By Reece Preston-Hayes Anstey Nomads travelled the long road to Graham Street Prims on a bitter Wednesday Night, it always seems like the Leicestershire clubs are travelling in the midweek, but no use complaining, it is something we knew we’d have to deal with, and we have to be at a best no matter what. Nomads were coming of the back of a win at Eagle Valley, the win somewhat enhanced by the fact it was won by a slim 1 goal which Nomads tend to struggle to hold a one goal lead. A rather large crowd blessed a very welcoming Baytree Cars Arena, the small list of volunteers as friendly as they usually are. With the Ref blowing the whistle to get this game started. It really did kick-off Nomads getting straight forward and almost scoring right off the bat, the keeper keeper far from his line and only just managing to flap the ball away. It wouldn’t take long for Nomads to break the deadlock on the tenth minute of the game Joe Hartopp slipped through 1on1 with the keeper, coolly sliding away from the keeper and slotting home to the delight of travelling fans. Hosting Prims seemed desperate to get things level again, a surge a pressure left them open at the back and Nomads attempted the counter-attack, however we waited too patiently and Graham Street Prims stole back possession and a quick switch-over play the ball was in the Nomads 18 yard box and a low shot sneaking into the left hand side of the goal. A shocked Nomads couldn’t regroup as mounting pressure from hosting Prims, it was only 11 minutes later that Graham Street Prims had landed themselves a free-kick well within shooting distance. Nomads watched on as the ball came over and with Anstey leaving far too many gaps it was an easy header for the Prims player. The hosts had turned things around and were not finished yet. They decided to keep pushing and earning themselves a corner the hosting prims must of thought training had been re-arranged, they whipped the ball over and the Nomads seemed too relaxed as another goal slipped in to further suffering. The half time whistle came soon after and Nomads struggled with injuries after coming out from the break, with no available subs (well i suppose we could of pushed Rob Harris on) the second half would be tough indeed. Both teams struggled to get any flow in their game, the Ref blowing up at almost every chance, and a couple of unwanted business cards dished out to the players. Nomads seemed to have very little options to move the ball with struggling fatigue. But our defensive efforts had improved stopping the hosts from making any further indents to our goal difference. Graham Street Prims 3-1 Nomads

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL . Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob & Jimmy lead Nomads first team to their best EMCL performance, our u18’s continued with our youth progression and a u21’s side provided further youth development. Club won Grounds award from EMCL. 2016/17 Ground overhauled with a fresh new setup for the clubhouse and surrounding buildings, the old changing rooms that we got 2nd hand in 1947 have finally gone and replaced with more modern rooms for players and officials.

A brief history of Quorn FC The origins of Quorn Football Club can be traced back to 1924 when a group of local lads from the Village Wesleyan Chapel formed a football team. In 1937 the Club, then known as Quorn Methodists gained access to the Leicestershire Senior League with a final name change to Quorn Football Club taking place in 1952. Throughout its history Quorn FC has consistently been a high flyer among Leicestershire’s senior teams, producing several players that have progressed to higher levels of excellence. Jackie Lee a Centre Forward went on to play for Leicester City and Derby County becoming an international, when he played for England v Ireland and scored. Richie Barker, who went on to play for Derby County and Notts County later managed Stoke City, Dion Dublin, who enjoyed a great playing career joining Manchester United, Aston Villa, Coventry, Leicester City, and Norwich as well as playing for England. In recent times Luke Varney, who was sold by the Club to Crewe Alexandra FC, and who developed into one of their most exciting players scoring 25 goals for them in the 2006/7 season, his quality was then recognised by Charlton Athletic who signed him for £2.5 Million in July 2007. Luke is currently playing for Portsmouth after spells at Derby County and a season long loan period for Blackpool in the Premiership. Over the years Quorn Football Club has played at several grounds in and around the village, but it was in 1960 that it relocated to Warwick Avenue, there it enjoyed the reputation of always providing good hospitality and due to the pitch’s natural drainage, games were very seldom called off. Quorn moved to its present ground on Farley Way in 1994 with the establishment of a new modern Clubhouse large enough to cater for the demands of a progressive Football Club both on and off the field, a football pitch with a playing surface that compares with the best around and a large Astroturf training area. Driven by the Club’s ambition to have a ground satisfying the facility criteria of Leagues at a higher level in the Football Pyramid, the following 14 years has seen remarkable progress, with the development of a 350 Seat Grandstand, built with the potential of increasing its future capacity to 500, large spectator car parking facilities, outside spectator toilets, and the establishment of a large grass training pitch to compliment the Astroturf. The sale of Luke Varney from Crewe Alexandra to Charlton Athletic brought a hefty windfall for the club following the Chairman‘s Stuart Turners astute sell on clause that was part of the deal that took the striker to Crewe five years ago and the committee have invested the money wisely developing the ground even further with the construction of a new stand at the Farley Way end and a new extension to the clubhouse bringing the ground up to near Conference level. The 2013/14 Season saw Quorn return to the Midland Football Alliance, following a sideways move. The new management of John Folwell and assistant Karl Brennan, both former players, began the rebuilding of the club, virtually starting from scratch, after the previous season’s upheaval. A very successful first term ensued with a respectable 5th place in the League and lifting the MFA League Cup Trophy at Walsall fc. Disappointment came in the Westerby Cup Final defeat at the KingPower Stadium. The Reserve side, under the Management of Ricky Nurse and Rich Burford, also having a great season, finishing runners-up in the League, Winning the League Cup and also reaching the Leicestershire Senior Cup Final. The 2014/15 season saw Folwell and his team resign with 2 months of the season remaining, Dougie Keast returned as Caretaker Manager and saw out the season with a depleted squad. Following the upheaval in early March, the Club were forced to withdraw their Reserve side from the MFL. The 2015/16 season sees the Club again going through a rebuilding process, Dougie Keast was appointed Manager on a permanent basis and added Chris Gray as his Assistant, the former skipper returning to the club after 3 years to take up a player/coaching role. Dave Clay also joins the Management as First Team Coach. Chris left to join Gresley in October and was replaced by Russell Hoult, Russ settled in really well and together with Dougie and Dave formed a great working relationship. The Reserve side have reformed and joined the Leicestershire Senior League and the Club have appointed Garry Smith as Manager with Leigh Daniels coming in as his assistant. During the close season Quorn lost the services of Dave Clay, who took up a role as joint manager at Oadby Town fc. Quorn also lost Garry Smith and Leigh Daniels, with both taking up a joint role at Loughborough United fc, all at Quorn wish all three every success at their new clubs. 2016/17 sees Doug and Russ build on last seasons improving squad and it's hoped that with additional signings and the experience that the young side gained in a tough campaign last season, will see the Club once again compete at the top end of the table as the Club enters a new phase, with the addition of a brand new 3G surface at Farley Way, expected to be installed in time for the start of the 2017/18 season.

It is with regret that we withdraw from the Under 18 Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth league. We have had many enjoyable times with our youth development teams this past few years and we have seen the likes of Sam Marshall, Zak Harris, Miles Price, and many more talented youngsters have come through our ranks. We hope in nearby future that the stars will align and we’ll be able to support a youth side with sufficient managers and coaches.
Programme Sponsors Needed! The Nomads are in need of new programme sponsors for the coming season, we are looking for full page, half page, and even quarter pages at very affordable rates. If you are interested in advertising your business in this seasons programme then please talk to Reece and Helen in the Tea-Bar.
Seat Sponsors Needed!! This year we are renewing the seat sponsorship scheme, as you know a few years ago we purchased new seating, to cover the costs of this we had our loyal fans sponsor a chair in their name, on behalf of a family member, or on behalf of a local business. This time around we are trying to raise funds to cover some of the hard work that has gone into ground development, please see Reece to sign your name up to the list, if you already sponsored before you have first priority to re-sponsor. It is only ÂŁ5 per seat so get your name down at your local club, fantastic!

AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON –Saturday Games!
Having been knocked off the pinnacle in midweek RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC climbed back to the top of the table with a narrow but decisive win at bottom-of-the-table ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. Scott Litchfield got both of their goals, one in each half, before the hosts made it a tight finish when George Wilkinson made it 2-1 with ten minutes remaining. STAPENHILL, slid from the top having been given a bit of their own medicine. They are normally at the forefront of big scores thanks to their goal machine Steve Hart. But his second half brace, and one from Tom Duddy late on couldn’t save them from being on the wrong side of a 6-3 hiding at BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC, for whom another former Golden Boot winner, Aaron Preston, found his shooting boots with the day’s only hat-trick. Stapenhill found themselves three down inside the first fifteen minutes as Rikki Bates and the first of Preston’s threesome put them well in control. James Ireland got the other Blaby goal. ANSTEY NOMADS were narrow winners by the only goal of the game as three games ended with similar scores. The Nomads won on their travels to Eagle Valley to defeat ARNOLD TOWN through Joe Hartopp’s 72nd minute goal. One from Dean Copson for BIRSTALL UNITED was enough to condemn BELPER UNITED to another home defeat, but Isaac Minott’s second goal of the week, this time in the 67th minute, was enough to lift the gloom at Shaw Lane and see HOLBROOK SPORTS run out winners over GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Chris Davis put BARROW TOWN ahead at the Riverside in their clash with BORROWASH VICTORIA in the 16th minute. Michael Fitzhugh levelled nine minutes later and that is how it stayed until the last five minutes when Ben Law put the home side back in front, from the penalty spot, but Kurt Dallison ensured that both sides would take a point each out of the game with a dramatic late second equaliser for the Vics. DUNKIRK put their surprise midweek defeat behind them to return to winning ways with a comfortable win at GRAHAM STREET PRIMS. Sam Grouse gave them a first half lead which was added to with goals from Matt Langham on 47 minutes and Ben Gowing in 56. Matt Adcock got a consolation for Prims on 73 minutes. Conor Carter gave RADFORD the perfect start on their visit to HOLWELL SPORTS with a goal in the very first minute, but Laithan Hammond on the stroke of half time restored parity and neither side could find the net in the second half so the game ended with spoils divided. KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE warmed up for their local FA Vase Second Qualifying Round match at Heanor Town next Saturday with a 3-1 win over a rapidly improving GREENWOOD MEADOWS outfit. Adam Hassall got the first of his brace on 33 minutes to give them first half advantage. Jordan Alls equalised on the hour with a spot kick,, but another from Hassall and a late strike from Lamah Griggs gave the Miners the points. ASHBY IVANHOE enjoyed success on their visit to Lees Lane from where they returned home with all three points thanks to a 2-0 win given to them by second half goals from Luke Thorogood ten minutes after the break and Ben Betteridge right at the death. AYLESTONE PARK returned to Leicestershire with all the points from the battle of the high flyers at WEST BRIDGFORD, where four goals in a nine minute first half spell lit up the game. First blood was struck by James Smith for the visitors on 32 minutes, levelled by Carl Westcarr two minutes later. Within a minute Mason Brown had pounced to put Park back in front and before the break Andy Fell had made it 3-1. Fell got his second of the game in the second half to give the visitors a 4-1 win when he converted a penalty in the 72nd minute.
AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON – Midweek Games!
Whilst HOLBROOK SPORTS might be simmering a bit over conceding a league double inside fourteen days to GREENWOOD MEADOWS, the Greens will be celebrating the fact that they are currently sitting outside the bottom three in the League table for the first time for two years or more thanks to the six points they have wrestled from the Sports. Having won earlier in the month by 7-1 at Shaw Lane, Greenwood won the return fixture on Wednesday evening courtesy of Aaron Mitchell’s 77th minute strike for the only goal of the game. That game apart, the other three scarcely motivated any change in the League standings with the exception of BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC moving up to fifth thanks to an emphatic 5-2 win at HOLWELL SPORTS. The teams went in level at the break after Rikky Bates had given the visitors a fifteenth minute lead and Mark Tinsley had levelled for Sports five minutes later. Aaron Preston regained the lead for Blaby four minutes into the second half, but once again parity was quickly restored when Ian Bitmead struck nine minutes later. Preston added his second of the game just after the hour and further goals from Jack Lane and George Tyler gave the visitors the points. GEDLING MINERS WELFARE moved somewhat surprisingly into the bottom three as a result of Royce Turville’s goal two minutes before half-time giving ASHBY IVANHOE all three points from their visit to Plains Road on Tuesday evening. And the week’s results were completed by GRAHAM STREET PRIMS recording a welcome home win with a 3-1 success over ANSTEY NOMADS with all the goals coming in the first period. Joe Hartopp gave Anstey the lead on ten minutes but Adam Gillott quickly equalised and further goals from Steve Dennahy and Ben Rushby completed the scoring.
