Anstey Nomads F.C. vs West Bridgford F.C. A very warm welcome to all as Nomads face off against West Bridgford who make their first trip to Davidsons Homes Park, their senior side has only been running since 2011 but they’ve done very well to achieve promotion to our league. Keeping with West Bridgford the Notts’ side have won half their games so far currently sat in 7th place and only 7 points from the top. A midweek draw in the league cup against South Normanton Athletic went through the initial 90 locked at 2 goals a piece, no goals in extra time means they’re looking at a replay. In the league W.B. Have had a couple of tough weeks, a loss against Radford last weekend and a couple of draws in the weeks before have slowed down their starting pace which had them at the top at one point. An interesting fact about our visitors is that they were once and may still be the Largest Amateur Club in EUROPE, at one point comprising of over 130 teams ranging from training groups for youngsters through to the men's, veteran and including a thriving girls & ladies’ section. On to your hosts today, Anstey Nomads, we’ve had a bit of misfortune or as Rob Harris might say “We’ve not had the rub of the green.” A tough break at Borrowash saw Nomads lose by 3 goals. The score-line doesn’t reflect the performance from the lads, whom did their best to fight back against a 2-0 deficit before possibly the most dubious decision in Borrowash vs Nomads history, (and the fans can tell you there’s been plenty of bad refs,) sent Nomads home with another 3 pegs down on our goal difference. Nomads did achieve their first home win via a victory in the LJC against Blaby Reserves, in the next round (which happens to be Tuesday) we face Melton Town at home. It’s important for Nomads to get a first league win if not for the vital points but to appease our loyal crowd who keep us at the top of the attendance table!

AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON – Saturday Showdowns! RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC came back after their heavy midweek defeat at South Normanton to put a spoke into the wheels of high-flying AYLESTONE PARK. The Nottinghamshire visitors went ahead through Scott Litchfield after just five minutes; the lead lasting just twelve minutes before Mason Brown levelled for the league leaders. Ryan Smith’s 70th minute goal gave the visitors all three points in a game which saw Park’s lead at the top cut to just one point. SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC maintained second spot with their second big win of the week. GRAHAM STREET PRIMS found their visit to Lees Lane rather taunting as the Shiners banged in six without reply to take their tally for the week to eleven. Skipper Danny Robert started the ball rolling on 13 minutes and this was added to by Lee Fell on 29. Dave Leigh scored moments after the resumption and that led to Josh Thompson, Warren Hatfield and Tom Lewis all joining in the goal spree. Unusual to have six different goal scorers in a 6-0 win. STAPENHILL occupy third place and they too had a high scoring week, hitting six for the second time in four days. It was the turn of ASHBY IVANHOE to feel the might of the home side’s scoring form, obtained without the name of Steve Hart appearing on the list of scorers! Tom Liversage led the way with four of the goals in their 6-3 win, opening his account in the tenth minute and going on to register two in each half. Joel Carta briefly gave Ivanhoe a ray of hope with a 19th minute leveller before Kerr Horn put them ahead four minutes later. After Liversage had completed his foursome, further goals from Ash Garner and Lewis Campbell made it 6-2 before Luke Thorogood got a third for Ivanhoe in the last minute. The top-of-the-table clash at WEST BRIDGFORD ended in favour of Nottingham city neighbours RADFORD taking the honours and the points with a 2-0 win. Jahred Russell broke the deadlock after twenty minutes and Reece Fyfe scored the goal which confirmed that the visitors would return home with all three points midway through the second half. HOLWELL SPORTS suffered another defeat, going down at home to BELPER UNITED who showed much improved form thanks to their long serving strikers Sam Vickers, who opened the scoring on 18 minutes, and Tim Parry who got the clincher of the points two minutes into the second half to take the Derbyshire side out of the bottom three, a result which should see their early form considerably improve. Not such a good afternoon for United’s neighbours HOLBROOK SPORTS who went down in a scrappy encounter in front of their own supporters to two goals from BIRSTALL UNITED skipper Lewis Dodd. His first came in the 31st minute with a low drive across the home goalkeeper to end a spell of good pressure from the visitors. Dodd was on hand again in the 67th minute to rap home Sam Kee’s cross to settle the issue. GEDLING MINERS WELFARE remain in relegation trouble following yet another disappointing home defeat, this time to DUNKIRK. Adam Burton put the Boatmen in front after eleven minutes and Bruno Holden doubled their advantage four minutes before the break. Mitch Slawson pulled one back with fifteen minutes remaining but Gedling were unable to rescue the situation any further. Also finding themselves in the bottom three are ANSTEY NOMADS, who suffered yet another big defeat going down by three goals at BORROWASH VICTORIA. Kirk Francis put the Vics ahead just two minutes into the game. Kurt Dallison, on the hour doubled their advantage and a Brandon Gwinnutt penalty two minutes from the end put the seal on a good afternoon’s work for the Vics. BARROW TOWN moved up to fifth in the table thanks to a 4-0 home win over stranded bottom club ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED. Goals from Sam Beaver on nine minutes and Michael Hendy on 27 gave them a two goal advantage by the break. Further goals from Marc Schulz on 63 and Zak Ginvert on 75 left the visitors still on just one point from their first fifteen games of the season. The League’s other two games both ended with the points being shared, but it took a 90th minute equaliser from Ross Lavin to save a point for BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC. Alex Marshall had put KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE ahead in the seventh minute but Lavin had restored parity by the half hour mark. Tom Marshall put the visitors back in front five minutes before the break and it took the last gasp leveller to save a point for Blaby, but they drop down to fourth in the table as a result of dropping two points. The other game to end all square was at Eagle Valley where ARNOLD TOWN and GREENWOOD MEADOWS shared six goals, starting with Joe Butler’s 22nd minute opener for the hosts. Alex Doyle had restored parity to the occasion by the break before a Kieran Duncan own goal put the Greens in front for the first time four minutes into the second half. Mason Coy levelled that for the Eagles but James Price put Greenwood back in front on 62 minutes. Kaylum Mitchell’s 73rd minute second leveller for Arnold ensured that the points would be shared.

A Brief history of the Anstey Nomads F.C. The Anstey Nomads were formed in 1947 and were champions of the Leicestershire Senior League in the seasons 1951-52 and 1953-54. The following season the Club recorded its’ highest ever attendance of 4,500 against the Athenian League side Hayes in the 2nd round of the FA Amateur Cup. But just one year later the Club decided to join the Central Alliance. In 1966-67 the East Midlands Regional League was formed, mainly from Clubs in the Central Alliance, and of the six seasons the Nomads spent in this League, they gained a top four place in three of them. In 1971 Anstey Nomads were chosen to feature on Bartholomew’s Football map of England and Wales, our badge and information (albeit with incorrect founding date) is listed 5th between Andover and Arsenal! In 1994-95 the Nomads created history by winning both the Leicestershire FA Senior Cup and the Junior Cup in the same season. In 2008-2009 season the Nomads had one of their most successful seasons by winning the Leicestershire Senior League, The Battle of Britain Cup, The Rollestone Charity Cup and The Beacon Bitter League Cup. Our first season in the EMCL 2009/2010 saw the Nomads finish bottom but our good reputation helped us not get relegated and we stayed in the EMCL. Season 2011-12 Nomads were in the F.A Cup for the first time in our history The 13/14 season was a time of transition for the Nomads, with some struggle, we managed to remain in the EMCL. Nomads also had their first Under 18's Floodlit team; they had an impressive season with several players stepping up to our senior sides. 2014/15 Rob Harris became first team manager alongside former Manager Jimmy Withers; Nomads' continued in with Youth development with the Under18's floodlit side, and debuted a new Under 16's side. 2015/16 Rob & Jimmy lead Nomads first team to their best EMCL performance, our u18’s continued with our youth progression and a u21’s side provided further youth development. Club won Grounds award from EMCL. 2016/17 Ground overhauled with a fresh new setup for the clubhouse and surrounding buildings, the old changing rooms that we got 2nd hand in 1947 have finally gone and replaced with more modern rooms for players and officials.

A brief history of West Bridgford FC West Bridgford Colts Football Club was formed in 1990 with the simple ethos of providing local youngsters with a game of football. From the start our strategy was to provide football for all, not just the more able players. We were one of the first junior clubs in the area to regularly field multiple teams at the same age group. Starting off with a couple of boys’ teams the club grew steadily, resulting in us running 18 teams by 2000. In 1994 we signed a lease for the Coronation Ground in West Bridgford. This provided us with a base with a clubhouse, as well as 3 x 11-aside pitches and a number of different sized small sided pitches, for our 5, 7 and 9 a side teams. In 1996 we started the girls section, which has grown steadily every year, resulting in the Ladies team, West Bridgford Ladies, being formed in 2006. In 2008 the club signed a 25 year lease for our current home, Regatta Way. The Coronation Ground having been purchased by the council to build a new school. The club took the wise decision to install floodlights at the new ground with an eye of the future of the club as we always hoped to run a successful men’s team. 2010 saw the formation of West Bridgford Colts Vets. We formed the senior men’s 1st team, West Bridgford Football Club, in 2011 to provide an exit route for our players. We achieved promotion from Division 2 of the Precision Notts. Senior League, finishing runners-up, as well as reaching the final of the Nottinghamshire Intermediate Cup, losing narrowly after extra time. In the season 2013-14, we again finished runners up in the 1st Division, to be promoted into the Senior league of the NSL and last season, 2014-15 we were runners up in the senior league, and finalists in the NSL cup, losing out to Wollaton on both occasions. In the 2015-2016 season we finished 3rd in the NSL premier league which gave the team promotion, and won the Nott’s FA intermediate cup. During 2016, the club installed hard standing around 2 edges of our pitch, a 100 seater spectator stand and enclosing the pitch with fencing as we planned for the future development of the club. The total spend was something just over £50,000. This along with our team’s efforts on the field ensured we achieved promotion into the EMCL. The club has now formed a second men’s team to further the clubs ambitions and to give players the opportunity from move from Youth football into men’s football. We are a Charter Standard Community Club which this season comprises of over 70 teams with 1056 players and are one of the biggest junior clubs in the country. www.westbridgfordfc.com

AROUND THE COUNTIES By STAN WILTON – Midweek Madness!
It was another week of cup ties for our midweek games, four of the matches being in the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup, so I will start with those. There were plenty of goals around with seven coming in two of the matches. BORROWASH VICTORIA set off at a blistering pace in their First Round tie at GREENWOOD MEADOWS and they were four goals to the good by the 25th minute, held well intact until the referee sounded “tea time” on his whistle. Mthabisi Miauzi started the ball rolling, so to speak, after just seven minutes, and he added the fourth in the 25th minute. Between times, Kurt Dallison and Kirk Francis had added two more. Joe Plant got his name on the scoreboard midway through the second half and then either the Vics took their foot off the gas or the Greens suddenly found their form, but Kamian Frost scored twice in three minutes to bring the game back to 2-5. Same scoreline at the Riverside, but this time it was in favour of the home side as BARROW TOWN saw off GEDLING MINERS WELFARE. Zak Ginvert scored first for the home side on 26 minutes, and this was followed by a foursome from Marc Schulz, with three of them coming in a 13-minute spell early in the second half. As at Lenton Lane, Gedling hit back with two late goals from being 5-0 behind; Mitch Slawson and Kadeem Brown being on target in the last ten minutes. HOLBROOK MINERS WELFARE will be hoping Santa Claus brings them a few presents in terms of a winning run, for they have exited the FA Vase, Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup and the League Cup all at the first hurdle this season and are struggling to find any sort of form in the League. ASHBY IVANHOE won the League Cup tie at Shaw Lane with Sam Kirk, Danny Quinn and Dan Stevenson all finding the net inside the first eighteen minutes. Stevenson added a fourth shortly before half-time. At least Holbrook managed to keep things tighter in the second half but Paul Fisher’s 87th minute header was little consolation as they went down 4-1. WEST BRIDGFORD and SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC must do it all over again after extra time failed to split them, the final score being 2-2. Luke Crosby put the Shiners in front on 75 minutes. Tim Hopkinson levelled after 89. Dave Leigh again put Normanton ahead with three minutes of extra time remaining, but Aaron Large restored parity within a minute and seconds later the Shiners had Lee Fell sent off. But held out for a replay. ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED will hope that their Leicestershire FA Challenge Cup win will give their league form a boost. Umar Uhussain levelled Wayne Slawson’s opener for visiting BIRSTALL UNITED to send the teams in at the break level. Slawson again put Birstall ahead seven minutes into the second half but Luke Taylor levelled for United. Lewis Dodd gave Birstall advantage for a third time with ten minutes left but in the last of the 90 an own goal sent the game into extra time as the home side levelled again. The additional time failed to break the deadlock and Ibstock & Ellistown United gained their first win of the season in a penalty shoot-out by 3-2.
