SATURDAY 20TH DECEMBER 2014 ANSTEY NOMADS F.C WELCOME BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC F.C. TO DAVIDSONS HOMES PARK FOR TODAY’S LEAGUE GAME Blaby and Whetstone Athletic F.C. HISTORY. Formation: Whetstone Athletic F C was founded in 1928 playing in the Leicester City League until 1967 when they were elected to diversion one of the Leicestershire Senior league.
Recent: Last Season, 2013/14, saw Blaby & Whetstone achieve their most successful season to date. Under the leadership of Steve Orme, the first team achieved their highest league position in the EMCL, finishing fourth in the league. A great run in the FA Cup saw the club reach the second preliminary round for the first time. The season finale saw the club play at the home of Leicester City Football Club to clinch the Westerby Cup for the first time in our history. The first team success rubbed off on the reserve team and saw them clinch the Leicestershire Senior League Division One title under the leadership of Gaz Allen. The new season brings great optimism for the club with Mark Jenkins as Chairman. Steve Orme remains in charge of the East Midlands Team and with a new Management team with him hopes are high for a good season. Gaz Allen takes charge of the reserve team following their promotion to the Leicestershire Senor League Premier Division. Read Blaby & Whetstones FULL history online it’s worth the read for anyone interested!

AROUND THE COUNTIES
by STAN WILTON
Only six of the ten games survived the frost but the contestants served up a grand total of 28 goals. ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED led the way with a 6-2 home win over RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC. The home side were three goals to the good inside the first twelve minutes thanks to Jack Murray, Adam Joynson and Danny Quinn. That was first half scoring over and it was left to Kenneth Reeves to pull one back for Olympic on the hour. That started another last goalscoring burst with four in five minutes. Murray and Joynson both added to their earlier goals and Sam Carline made it six with three home goals in three minutes before Lee Potts got another late goal for Olympic. GEDLING MINERS WELFARE also scored six, this time at poor BORROWASH VICTORIA, who returned to play in front of their own supporters for the first time in six weeks. Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, a firm favourite with tannoi operators when announcing the teams, got a first half brace and completed his hat-trick in stoppage time at the end of the game. Mitch Slawson got a brace, one in each half, and Luke AdamStanley got the other as the Miners raced into a 4-1 interval lead. Jamie Pawley and Lee Sutton got the home goals. ARNOLD TOWN hit four without replay against visitors BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC, thus denying them the chance to creep into third place in the table. Stephen Cox completed a first half brace and a James Price penalty and one from Courtney Hastings completed the rout in the second half.
