In Search of Detox

LONG -HELD SECR ETS R EV EALED For over 30 years now, we have been exploring plantations all over the world in search of the very best teas. With every journey comes another chance to learn about people and cultures, to interact with the inhabitants of the regions we visit so often, to make new contacts and to share their day-to-day lives.

We waited this long to launch this line for two main reasons. The first is that there were a lot of products out there. Perhaps we waited too long, but we wanted to be certain we could deliver a new, original product with proven effectiveness. With the knowledge of detox practices we acquired in our travels, we were confident that we would be able to rise to the challenge. The second reason was tied to our relationship to tea, which we see as a gourmet beverage, one that we want people to enjoy as a part of a rich tasting experience, rather than a health drink, although it certainly has

Detox Special Issue Five detox teas and herbal infusions inspired by traditional practices from five uıorld regions.

So uth Afr i can Detox DR AINING Rooibos or “red bush” tea only grows in South Africa. The leaves are used to make an antioxidant herbal tea that is rich in mineral salts, low in tannins and caffeine-free, so it can be enjoyed at any time of day. We combined it with honeybush, a plant prized by the people of South Africa for its beneficial properties. Both plants are also rich in f lavonoids, renowned for their potent antioxidants. The next ingredient, moringa, known as the “miracle tree”, is a superfood. It is naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, delivering a draining effect. The sweet taste of perfectly ripe African mango adds an indulgent note.

Japan ese Detox R ELAXATION In Japan, purifying the body also means finding a moment of relaxation and serenity to eliminate daily anxiety and stress. A drink of choice in Japan for thousands of years for its health benefits, Sencha green tea is renowned for its powerful and relaxing antioxidants. The people of Japan also consume buckwheat, a beneficial and gluten-free grain that is rich in fibers, which helps to flush out toxins, and incredibly high in magnesium. This essential element works to make the body more resistant to stress and acts as a potent muscle relaxant. Spirulina, a blue-green algae superfood with many health benefits, is rich in vitamins (including A, B1, B2, B12 and D), amino acids, iron and minerals, and also contributes to the rapid elimination of toxins. Finally, a hint of nashi pear, adds the perfect finishing touch with its sweet and soothing notes.

with vitamins to stimulate the body, and acai, a staple of the Brazilian diet for centuries. Also known as the “Amazonian miracle fruit”, acai is exceptionally rich in natural antioxidants thanks to its high concentration of anthocyanins. Its macronutrients make it energy-dense while being low in sugar, ideal for a revitalising detox.

ANTIOXIDANTS These are molecules (such as flavanoids, catechins and polyphenols) that are present in some foods that help fight the formation of free radicals, the “toxins” responsible for cell ageing.

In di an De tox DIGE STION India is the birthplace of Ayurvedic culture and the land of Assam black tea. This tea is rich in tannins, which have a positive and soothing effect on the digestive system. Here, Assam is combined with turmeric, an important spice in India consumed both for its unique taste and for its preventive and curative properties. Turmeric is particularly recommended for digestive disorders, and is perfectly complemented by a touch of fresh, zesty lemon. Palais des Thés’ Indian Detox also contains tulsi, or holy basil, the “queen of herbs” that has been venerated for thousands of years for its ability to purify mind and body.

And yet they spend much of their time outdoors, living in harmony with their environment and the natural world. They have learned to understand and draw on these natural resources to protect themselves from environmental stress. Scandinavian Detox enhances the body’s natural defenses with the plants and fruits that grow in Arctic forests, including birch and Nordic berries. Birch, a symbol for renewal in Nordic culture, is consumed by locals. Its sap, leaves and bark all boast many beneficial properties. In addition to antioxidants, birch contains diuretic and detoxifying agents that help the body f lush out toxins. Sweet and fruity sea buckthorn, cranberry, elderberry and blueberries are rich

Grands Crus selection June 2018 We will introduce you to our exceptionally refreshing 2018 Darjeeling first-flush teas. Alongside these fresh picks, here are the latest Oolongs teas from Thailand and a delicious Grand Cru from Colombia.

12 •

We are pleased to announce that for the first time ever, some of the Grands Crus in this selection are issued from organic agriculture.

2018 Darjeelings first-flush This year, the Darjeelings first-flush were a long time coming. After 105 days of strikes in the summer of 2017, many pluckers left the region, leaving the tea plants untended until very late and delaying the first spring harvests. While only a few high-quality batches were available, the close relationships we maintain with our suppliers enabled us to secure some truly excellent teas.

PUTTABONG DJ 14 S.F.T.G.F.O.P.1 CLONAL EXOTIC This lovely first-f lush comes from the Puttabong plantation. In addition to being the oldest and most prestigious tea garden in Darjeeling, it also employs environmentally friendly practices such as vermiculture. This extraordinarily delicate Grand Cru is noteworthy for its perfectly balanced f lavours. When tasted, it develops a fresh grassy opening that evolves into f loral and fruity notes. A delicate astringency enhances its bright notes. Try this exquisite tea while you still can! REF. 002A18.

ORANGE VALLEY DJ 5 S.F.T.G.F.O.P.1 CHINA This first-flush is grown in Orange Valley. Located 2,000Â metres (6,550 feet) above sea level, the plantation lies next to the city of Darjeeling. The tea, with its lightly acidic yet sweet flavour, enchants the senses with aromatic notes that unfold one after the next throughout the tasting: first grassy, then zesty and floral, and finally culminating in fresh, grassy and fruity notes. The flavours, set off by a pleasant astringency, produce a refreshing mouth feel. A must-try for tea lovers. REF. 004A18.

Issued from organic agriculture

MISSION HILL DJ 4 S.F.T.G.F.O.P.1 CLONAL This incredibly refreshing tea is characterised by slightly acidic and bitter notes. The delicately floral and zesty attack develops almond and exotic fruits greedy notes, with a vegetal and slightly toasted accent finish. All these delicious flavours persist thanks to the lingering finish of this tea. REF. 001A18.

Please note! All the teas presented on these pages are Grands Crus plucked in very small quantities and only available at a given time, with no guarantee of future supply. Since they are available only until the harvest is gone, these teas may go out of stock quickly.

Grands Crus selection Oolongs from Thailand Here we have two Oolongs from the village of Mae Salong, located in northern Thailand, in the mountains of the Golden Triangle. After poppy cultivation was eradicated in the 1980s, the Chinese community in Mae Salong began growing tea instead. Given that they imported tools and expertise from Taiwan along with the tea seedlings, it is no surprise that Mae Salong produces delicious Oolongs that are not dissimilar to some Taiwanese Oolongs.

MRS. MING’S JADE OOLONG

RUBY OOLONG

Known for her delicious Oolongs teas, Mrs. Ming has produced this delicate, lightly oxidised Grand Cru. The large leaves rolled into pearls reveal milky, vanilla, f loral and vegetal notes, all set off by a spicy finish. The velvety texture and lingering buttery-vanilla notes produce a smooth and sweet sensation.

Cultivated 1,250 metres (4,100 feet) above sea level, this 50-60% oxidised Oolong was harvested in September 2015. It offers a potent yet decadent aromatic profile. Set off by a silky texture, the fruity, woody and vanilla notes follow one another perfectly. The perfect introduction to high oxidised Oolongs teas.

Colombia COLOMBIA OSCURO As our first selections from Colombia proved exceedingly popular, we are pleased to announce a recent harvest from Hacienda Himalaya in Cauca Valley. Located over 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level, this plantation enjoys the special climate conditions that enable tea leaves to develop a rich depth of flavour. Experience this delicious black tea with its silky texture and fruity, woody and spicy notes that develop into a heady honeyed finish. REF. 360.
