Roland Baethge Bar Manager
2015 has got off to a flying start with some great evenings at PRIMO.
Spring is finally here and I can tell you I am very excited to join the PRIMO team as the new Bar Manager.
Executive Host and Artistic Director
We are now leaving the winter period behind and looking forward to maintaining this great vibe for the beginning of spring and the rest of the year. The months of March and April are always busy with many interesting things to do in London. If you like fashion I would surely recommend to you ‘Savage Beauty’ the amazing retrospective of Alexander McQueen at the V&A. For me one of the concerts not to be missed will be Lionel Richie at the O2 in March. I would also recommend the unexpected duo Sting & Paul Simon performing together at the O2 in April. If the idea of being on the main stage excites you, we have a fantastic opportunity to join a band of professional musicians and sing along with them to your favourite songs during our new monthly Bandeoke evening. I also wanted to wish Roland our new bar manager all the best in his new role. A great addition to the PRIMO team!

This is my favourite time of the year, when you can finally enjoy the outdoors again and discover what London has to offer.
Try our Enchanted Forest and Spring Awakening special spring cocktails, created by our talented bartender team. These colourful, magical drinks with Woodruff Syrup will bring you back to life after the long winter dream. Join us for Overtime, where you can enjoy our 2-4-1 cocktail offer from 5-8pm, while relaxing after a long day of work. Finally, I wish you all a fantastic time in London this spring and we look forward to welcoming you to PRIMO very soon. Love PRIMO or have any feedback? We'd love to here your views. *Drink responsibly – drinkaware.co.uk

Interview with KARME Tell us a little about your background, what has influenced you? I’m a keyboard player from Catania, Sicily. I initially started learning classical piano. My family musical background was all about the great Italian songwriters, Lucio Battisti, Fabio Concato, Fabrizio De Andre and Lucio Dalla. Then later on, my interests gradually moved towards Afro-American music. The funk of James Brown, the soul of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and the Motown, the more mainstream pop of Michael Jackson, and generally speaking all the groovy and jazz influenced music.
How did you get into singing? Through my 20’s, I focused more on writing, and then gradually I started singing my own material. As a result, I began exposing myself more as a singer than as a keyboard player for a while, performing my own shows and gigs in different contexts. In 2009 I released an EP, “Evasioni Prevedibili”, produced during my 3 years in Milan, and had the pleasure to see my music featured in a couple of soul compilations. It was also played on the radio and at a few festivals.
What is the last music you bought? A new artist actually, I bought some music from Nate Williams. I play for him as well. If you don’t know him, definitely check it out! You perform regularly at Primo on different projects; can you explain what can we expect from these different shows?
How would you define your style? I’m definitely a funky player. I guess I take a lot from jazz harmony, but I always have a groovy approach when I play. So let’s say it’s a mix of old school soul and modern pop, with a jazzy flavour. People say I always play the right notes in the right contexts... I like that!
Who are your favourite singers?
I guess it’s easy to say Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. But right off the top of my head I’d say also Sting, Luther Vandross, Mick Hucknall, Erykah Badu.
You have collaborated with many top singers, what was the most memorable experience? It would definitely be New Year's Eve. I played with Gloria Gaynor, who performed a great funk and disco show in Dubai, together with Chic and Nile Rodgers, Incognito, Chaka Khan, Jocelyn Brown and the legendary Jacksons. Welcoming the New Year whilst being on stage alongside all of these artists was a very special moment!
At the moment we’re running two tribute acts, one dedicated to Michael Jackson, the other to Amy Winehouse. They’re obviously quite different shows, but both are very fun to see (and play). It’s all about good music! Are you working on any more personal projects? I’m part of Bassment Project, a 10 piece soul band. We released an album last year and as a result, we performed throughout Europe. We supported Rizzle Kicks on tour and Lettuce at Ronnie Scott’s. Go and check us out! Also I’m supporting Alba Plano with the writing and production of her first album, a mix of soul and jazz sounds, featuring a superb band, with some of the most acclaimed Italian jazz players. We’re just recording it as we speak, so watch this space, we’ll talk about it next time!

After studying jazz at Middlesex University, Susie embarked on a teaching career, whilst Paul played for world-renowned musicians such as Stacey Kent.
A fresh and new approach to an acoustic duo, infused with incredible percussive guitar and soul influenced vocals. Jack’s rhythmic and melodic picking of acoustic guitar is complemented well with Mits’ captivating and clear-cut vocals. The London based duo has thrived in the industry individually, and have come together to showcase their renditions of popular and old school tunes with a unique twist.
