In Memory of Joinerysoft’s Co-founder, Dave Turner Joinerysoft regret to inform those in the industry of the sad loss of their co-founder Dave Turner. Dave passed away suddenly on 8th December 2020, aged 78 years from a bleed on the brain, which then caused a heart attack. He lived life to the full and had many interests and hobbies which included hot air ballooning, caving, narrowboating and walking. Dave designed and wrote the original software program (JMS) in 1983 for a joiner based in Somerset. He had a love for mathematics, which he put to good use in the complex calculations, which are embedded within the JMS software. In 2004 two of his sons joined to help develop and expand the company and in 2006 Joinerysoft was born. Joinerysoft now has over 1000 customers from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Canada as well as a large number of bespoke joiners in the UK. Although semi-retired Dave still took great interest in the staff, software development and customers. Alan and Tom intend to grow Joinerysoft further to ensure their fathers legacy lives on. David will be known for his ability to think outside the box and will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Feature Online Shopping With CAD+T Austrian software specialist, CAD+T has launched a new online shop. The simple and effective planning tool, which is designed to work with CAD+T’s existing ERP and cloud-based software solutions, has been partnered with a fourth-generation configurator tool to create a fully customisable sales tool for furniture designers and manufacturers. The new online shop, which has launched in the UK this month, allows users to design and modify furniture designs in the third dimension using fully customisable and predesigned templates. Users can clearly identify different materials, shapes and sizes in an easy to navigate room environment but unlike its predecessor, features can be adapted for different users, including end-users via an online portal, before the software’s configuration software automatically creates the required technical drawings, material requirements, product pricing and cutting lists needed for the next stage of the manufacturing process. The updated configurator tool is also no longer limited for
use on CAD+T planning and construction modules. Instead, it can be incorporated independently via its own hosting onto webpages or a customer’s e-commerce websites – a desirable function for those modifying their route to market since the pandemic. It’s also scalable - which means there are no limits to the number of servers that can work in tandem with the configurator – and it comes with a fully customised interface for internal staff members. Martina says, “The new software widens our client’s opportunities to sell their products in different ways, whilst still having a complete solution that is unique to their business. Whether you’re looking to design a piece of furniture from scratch using our standard configurator tools or offer a bespoke online ordering service, our new software offers an intelligent solution that streamlines screen to machine production. www.cadt-solutions.com

“It’s also fully adaptable and isn’t limited to mainstream furniture manufacturing. We have a customer that creates specialist bed frames that are designed around a person’s height and weight. Our new software allows the customer to input their stats via a website and create their very own, made-tomeasure bed. This shows how customisable our software is and the wealth of new opportunities it can offer the manufacturing sector. Plus, with our new cloud-based, SAAS (software as a service) compatible technology, customers can benefit from a flexible and powerful one-stop solution designed around your business.”
Feature Special Cutting Tool From AAG Ensures Perfect Edge Finish One of the most significant benefits of ownership of an AXYZ routing/cutting system supplied by AAG is the access it provides to arguably the most comprehensive range of essential spare parts, accessories and consumables. These are available 24/7 from AAG’s online CNCShop Division and include special-purpose tools that have been designed for applications for which standard spiral tools are not an ideal solution. A typical example of these special-purpose tools is the Marathon Compression Tool. This has been designed specifically for the processing of materials (typically sold woods and particle woods like MDF and laminates), the edges of which are liable to fracture or fray if standard spiral tools are employed. Supplied in a choice of diameters and lengths to accommodate different material processing requirements, the Marathon Compression Tool has an advanced geometry and incorporates a special coating to protect the cut edge of the material from the high temperature generated during the routing/cutting process. The combined upward/ downward motion of the tool ensures a clean and perfect edge finish on the top and bottom surfaces of the material, an attribute of special significance when handling doublesided laminates.
The Marathon Compression Tool is just one of a range of special-purpose routing/cutting tools available through the CNCShop facility. These also include a Diamond Cutting Tool for the processing of acrylic and plastic sheets and a Long Reach Tool for cutting foam and similar ‘soft’ materials. This customer support facility also includes a vast range of standard tools and accessories, including high-quality router bits, collets and cones, various types of spindle and oscillating and tangential cutting blades, all of which are sourced and updated by AAG from leading global suppliers. CNCShop has recently undergone a major upgrade, making the site much easier and faster to navigate and to locate selected products and services. The site also enables customers to now engage with AAG technical engineers in one-to-one live discussions to ensure only the most appropriate and cost-effective product is selected for a given application. Video links to products in application and training courses complete this wide-ranging customer support facility provided by AAG.

Profile Lathams Launches New A&D Specification Team A new team at materials supplier James Latham will connect architects, designers and specifiers with the most innovative and exciting products on the market today. Bringing together expertise and insight from around the company, the Lathams Specification Team has been launched as a one-stop solution for materials specifiers. There is a strong focus on products with unique benefits, including solid surfaces, hardwearing laminates, antimicrobial acrylics and robust exterior cladding. Aesthetics are well catered for too, with the team able to recommend a range of surfaces, finishes, colours and styles suitable for any project. These include products that mimic other materials, such as decors that replicate the look and feel of various stones, woods and linens. “There are many high-quality, advanced products being brought to market all of the time. It’s easy for specifiers to lose track of what’s available or just stick to what they know”, said Rob Goodman, who leads the team. “What they are often unaware of is the broad range of options available to achieve that final finish that a customer has requested. By creating a single point of contact we can better support the A&D community and help them to find the right solution for their client’s brief.” The team’s knowledge incorporates a broad product portfolio including solid surfaces such as HI-MACS and Avonite and decorative laminates and veneers from manufacturers including Egger, Xylocleaf, Kronospan and Decospan. While currently offering consultancy via video conferencing, the team will support customers throughout the UK, corresponding with the locations of Lathams various showrooms and depots. The specification team comprises Debbie Northall (London), Joe Sepede (Yate, Thurrock and Hemel Hempstead), Natasha Smith (Dudley and Leicester), Mark Robinson (Leeds, Ireland and North West England) and David Schofield (Leeds, Gateshead and Scotland).
To coincide with the announcement of the new team a solid surfaces website has also gone live, providing an additional detailed product resource for specifiers and customers. INTEGRATED SOLUTION FOR STAIRS PRODUCTION Automation Nesting Double end profiling
MES software powered by SCM
SCM Integrated Solution For Staircase Production A staircase is often the best introduction to a home, if not the first piece of décor that attracts your attention as soon as you enter a house. This is why it is essential for manufacturers, architects and designers involved in the production of staircases to pay close attention to every detail and create a product that is as “customdesigned” as possible and fully reflects a customer’s personality and practical and decorative preferences.
to be centralised and simplified. Furthermore, automatic panel labelling is done in this area, in accordance with the cutting diagram subsequently carried out by the operating machines. This operation is extremely important as it means the panel can be constantly tracked during the integrated automatic processes and the work programs associated with each element can be called up at later stages in the machining process.
In response to these needs, SCM offers an integrated solution for the production of staircases. This involves a cell for the nesting cut, consisting of an automatic “flextore el” magazine integrated with two “accord 30 nst” machining centres and a double “celaschi” squaring line.
Of the two “accord 30 nst” machining centres, the first one is mainly used to manufacture the risers and steps, while the second one is used for the stair strings on the staircases and the landings. By maintaining the manual loading function, special one-off pieces can also be machined.
This engineering solution has already been successfully adopted by leading customers in the industry which automates the machining process, increasing the quality and production capacity that can mean 60 staircases with 16 steps and landing can be completed in a single 8-hour shift.
The main advantages of this solution are high powered routing and intelligent programming thanks to the “Maestro” software suite. This results in excellent performance in terms of speed as well as quality and implementation accuracy.
In addition, the entire system is designed to be subjugated, on the customer’s request, by an articulated robot positioned on a “seventh axis” that increases the operating range to complement the integration of the two cells, automatically managing the nesting machine unloading and loading onto the “celaschi” line, without the intervention of an operator. The Engineering Project In Detail Nesting Cell Starting with the unfinished panel, the stair strings, landings, risers and treads are produced. This SCM solution is ideal for optimising and simplifying made-to-order productions because it handles both uniform stacks as well as mixed stacks, consisting of panels of different sizes and colours, and unfinished panels and/or with a minimum thickness of no more than 3 mm, depending on the material. The core of the cell is the three-axis “flexstore el” automatic magazine that guarantees a considerable increase in productivity and a significant reduction in the cost of running the raw materials magazine. The “Maestro active store” software plays a dual role of manmachine interface for the flexstore automatic storage as well as acting as supervisor to the cutting cell, allowing control
10
www.p-j-production.com
The main advantage of the cell lies in its modularity and scalability: indeed, even though each of the two machining centres are assigned to specific machining jobs, just one of them can be used if there is a reduced production capacity requirement. Equally, if there was a fault on one of the two machining centres, this solution would ensure that production did not stop completely but that it continued on the other one. “Celaschi” double squaring line This line allows you to trim lengthways and outline the risers and treads previously created. It consists of a manually powered automatic loading system, a longitudinal “celaschi p60” double squaring machine for profiling the long sides, a “celaschi tr 90” automatic transport system, a second transversal “celaschi p60” to trim and square the short sides and unloading rollers. The contribution from “Maestro active watch” software is also important for the supervision and control of the entire squaring line, that means program management can be optimised and simplified as well as the work lists, machining commands and parameters, the process implementation and all the work involved in diagnostics. www.scmwood.com
Feature SCM Opens Up A New Era For Drilling With “Morbidelli Ux200” Absolute quality and superior precision, combined with unbeatable productivity and ease of use. These are the strengths of the new range of numerically controlled drilling solutions made in SCM. The “morbidelli ux200” has been designed to meet the growing needs for “batch 1” and integrated production. This is granting producers the possibility of satisfying any given customer’s special requirements without compromising on the benefits of industrial production. Every detail in this machine has been designed with meticulous care in order to allow all the required machining operations to be performed with high efficiency, top quality and advanced technology. The Machine That Best Combines Flexibility And High Productivity Thanks to the 4 separate operator units (two upper and two lower), any piece can be machined in a few steps. Furthermore, the possibility of simultaneously processing two overlapping pieces also means the production of symmetrical pieces can be doubled. A noteworthy feature in the morbidelli ux200d is the exclusive dowelling unit with dual variable-axis that can be adjusted according to the distance between holes. Among the features available in the entire series is the dual automatic tool changer for both the upper and lower electrospindles, used for simultaneous machining of opposite sides of panels, and the tool for “Clamex” customised joints. Cycle Time Optimization Thanks To The Shaped Clamps The new clamps’ design allows drilling and routing operations even on the inside of the clamping area. The software Maestro CNC is in charge of optimising all the operations in order to minimise clamp switches.
The Perfect Drilling: Ro.Ax Spindle Zero play during machining with the latest RO.AX technology (Rotoaxial spindle technology), the most efficient spindle on the market with rotation speeds up to 6000 rpm. The sturdiness of drilling heads is proven by the reduced maintenance costs: five times less than that imposed by the majority of other machine manufacturers. Other advantages are offered by the highly advanced computer software controlling the drilling cycles and the ability to automatically load panels of any size. In addition, in case of a double panel machining, Maestro CNC is able to create automatically the operations of the second piece. One program, several ways of working! Highly versatile, morbidelli ux200d can operate as a standalone machine or as an integrated part of a production line, with various types of workpiece conveyors and loadingunloading systems.

Feature Blum – Making Life Easier For Manufacturers With Their Cabinet And Product Configurators Blum has released their new Cabinet Configurator software, which gives total support from planning to manufacturing. Plan entire cabinets in your web browser – free of charge, no need for installation and always up to date. Configure Blum fittings using the integrated collision check with just a few clicks. Cabinets are designed digitally, using 3D drag and drop design, saving valuable time and money. The project can then be sent to CAD software for further planning and design. The resulting order is then sent directly to the online shops of selected distributors. Comprehensive planning results make manufacturing quick and simple. Matthew Glanfield, Technical Manager at Blum UK comments: “The first thing that came to me when using it recently was Speed. I was compiling some example templates to use in training and for the sales team. These templates range from 3 drawer packs, SPACETOWERS, SPACE TWIN and oven enclosures. I had put aside a couple of days to make these templates. It took me less than 1 hour and at the end of the exercise I had 10 cabinets with PDF planning drawings, CAD files, Bill of material lists and the ability to share all of this. “In completing this exercise what I also noticed was the power of free design within it, drag and drop shelves, fronts, and the ability to plan in empty space made it easy to create complicated cabinets. Also, I do mean it when I say create the cabinets because it now includes construction information of the carcass, such as dowel and screw positions.”
As well as this amazing software tool, Blum have their Product Configurator. Easy, fast and digital, the Product Configurator helps find the right Blum fittings for furniture designs on a PC, tablet or smartphone - without the need to install software or updates. Find the parts lists, CAD data and planning information for your configuration. Manage your projects in “My projects”, use the “My library” feature to create your own templates specifying your box system, colours and cabinet dimensions. The automatic output of the complete parts list means no ordering errors are made. What is more, you can send your parts list directly to the online shops of selected distributors - individually or together as a production order using the “My order lists” feature.

Nordfab QF clipped ducting is available to purchase online from Extractly’s website: www.extractly.co.uk/pages/quick-fit-ducting
Extractly’s Got All Its Duct Online When a leading timber staircase manufacturer recently added a Weinig Powermat 700 moulder to its already impressive line-up of equipment, re-jigging the dust extraction ductwork to accommodate the new highspeed machine was all in a day’s work for Extractly Limited’s ‘COVID-secure’ installation team. Extractly Ltd is a leading UK distributor of Nordfab clipped ductwork, and is South Yorkshire-based GD Woodworking’s preferred contractor for dust extraction. Although on this occasion the job required little more than a new header and flexible ducting, employing Nordfab’s Quick-Fit® Cliptogether Ducting components still helped to make this a straightforward and speedy task to complete; a winwin for GD Woodworking, as the new machine could be commissioned without delay and production continued with minimal interruption. A complete extraction system had been installed at the premises when Glyn Ducker moved the business there a few years ago and, as Extractly’s Jake Oldfield explained,
16
www.p-j-production.com
“Back in 2016, Glyn had the foresight to invest in clipped ducting throughout the factory, and his investment has paid dividends when production demands have necessitated the relocation or replacement of existing machines.” “Because Nordfab’s Quick-Fit® ducting system simply clips together, without the need for any special tools, installation and down-times are massively reduced in comparison with other types of ducting”, says Jake, “and the rolled edges on the ductwork ends make for a clean connection to other components, and the integral gasket on the ‘barrel-type’ clamp guarantees a leak-tight seal.” When it comes to installing a dust extraction system, Nordfab claims that Quick-Fit® ducting (or QF® as it’s referred to in the trade) is “The World’s Fastest Ducting” but, as GD Woodworking have found out, it’s just as easy to uninstall and relocate when you move machinery or make other changes to the work area. “We also have an Ecogate® energy-saving system installed”, commented Mr. Ducker, “so, since Extractly are approved installers for both Ecogate and Nordfab equipment, we can be certain that
Profile any changes made to our extraction ductwork system are completed in the correct manner, without compromising efficiency or safety, and that any LEV testing is completed to HSE guidelines.” As well as providing a full design and installation service, Extractly Ltd is also an Authorised Nordfab Dealer, and the full range of QF ducting components can be purchased directly from its online shop. So, whether you need ‘supply only’ for a self-install project, or you’re purchasing components for a third party to install, most standard
components can be ordered for next day delivery from www. extractly.co.uk/pages/quick-fit-ducting. HOMAG improves quality and throughput for Timbermark Manufacture
Timbermark Manufacture Invests In HOMAG Wide Belt Sander To Improve Quality And Throughput Timbermark Manufacture was established in 2011 as a specialist joinery manufacturer located out of Lisburn, Northern Ireland. From the outset, the company’s goal was to offer high-quality bespoke joinery services to the commercial, residential and hospitality markets. “The business has been incredibly successful in a short timeframe,” founder and managing director Tim Brown enthuses. He continues, “A significant portion of our work is in London where we have won joinery projects for high-end hotels, residential properties and exclusive bars, clubs and restaurants.
20
www.p-j-production.com
“These customers demand very high-quality products. To achieve the level of finish required, we were spending an inordinate amount of time hand-finishing our work. Not only was this slow, but it was also extremely costly and it was handicapping opportunities to expand the business. “Although we had an old sanding machine, it was too slow and couldn’t handle the type of work we needed to process. The decision was made, therefore, to invest in a modern wide belt sander.
Feature “The new sander was going to be a cornerstone of our manufacturing and so we invested a great deal of time researching the market. The W18 show at the NEC was ideal; it enabled us to compare a lot of the brands under one roof which proved to be an extremely informative exercise.” Quality and service “We were able to see many of the different machines in operation and, equally as important, talk to the people at each company. It was these demonstrations and discussions that steered our decision towards the HOMAG SANDTEQ machine. “We have always had a strong relationship with Derek Reid, HOMAG’s representative in Ireland; he is a straight-talking open and honest guy who understands our business. When we visited the W18 show, we found that all the people at HOMAG had a similar open and honest approach. “They knew their machines inside out and clearly wanted to solve the manufacturing challenges we faced. Our goal was to source a high quality all-round wide belt sanding machine that could handle veneers, calibration and general sanding jobs. HOMAG’s team understood what we were looking for straight away and were focused on demonstrating various options that would meet our needs. “Although many of the competition’s machines were good, they weren’t quite up to the standard of the SANDTEQ W-200. In addition, we weren’t getting the same level of confidence that HOMAG’s people gave us.
“The evaluation process was lengthy, but in the end the decision to invest in the HOMAG sander was clear-cut. The build quality of the machine and the superb results it achieves, backed by the strength of the HOMAG brand and the excellent service and support, made a solid business case.” Significantly improved quality and throughput “With the SANDTEQ W-200, what used to take us hours can now be done in minutes and we don’t have to do any handfinishing. We love the fact that the table stays level and the machine moves up and down; this enables us to operate the sander with one person as the infeed and outfeed remain at the same height. “Since the machine was installed just after Christmas 2019, our productivity has soared and the quality of work we produce has set new standards for the business. Once the HOMAG engineer had trained our operators on site, we were able to quickly maximise the benefits the machine brings to the business. From calibrating doors and sanding veneers to sanding general workpieces, such as skirting boards or panels, the SANDTEQ takes it all in its stride,” concludes Tim Brown.

Creating The “Old” With The New Latest Technology Produces Historical Typeface For Artwork A state-of-the-art computer program created a unique piece of wooden artwork at Farringdon underground railway station commemorating the life of Edward Johnston – who is widely regarded as one of the fathers of modern calligraphy. Johnston, who died in 1944, is credited with introducing the idea of a broad edged pen as a writing tool, and is most famous for designing the sans-serif Johnston typeface that was used throughout the London tube system until it was redesigned in the 1980s. He also redesigned the famous roundel system used throughout the Underground. To mark his overall dominant contribution to the London streetscape, a series of letters cut from stained wood are now on display along a walkway wall at Farringdon station. The artwork displays the full alphabet in lower case letters, backwards, with Johnston spelled out in the middle.
22
www.p-j-production.com
The letters were created that way, to reflect how they would have been produced for printing purposes on traditional hot metal printing presses, and to allow a tactile experience, encouraging people to interact with the memorial. It was designed specifically to look as if it was found in an old store and simply mounted to the wall. But in reality, the letters were cut on a CNC router by an internal architectural joinery company. The complex programs for the toolpaths were created in ALPHACAM, from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, by the software’s Area Sales Manager Andrew Harfield. In total, there were 27 programs – one for each letter of the alphabet, and one for the capital J, for Johnston. He says the first letter took 30 minutes to program, with three minutes for each of the other letters.

*Artwork image, courtesy of www.ianvisits.co.uk “Programming the first letter for machining from an imported DXF file took the most time. But when that was done, the machining operations were saved as ALPHACAM Machining Styles, and reused for all the other letters. The bulk of the material was removed using a 16mm diameter cutter, with a 4mm cutter to finish the letters, and finally a 1.5mm diameter tool for the detail in the letter corners. “This detailed machining was done automatically, as ALPHACAM knows where the excess material is, and only machines in these areas, which saves both programming and machining time.” The manufacturing process was carried out by an ALPHACAM user on their Biesse CNC machine tool. Andrew Harfield says: “The ALPHACAM programs made it such a simple and foolproof operation for them. All they had to do was load the wood on to the machine tool and run the
programs. The programs had already been proven out with ALPHACAM’s simulation functionality, so we knew there wouldn’t be any collisions. “Special care had to be taken when finishing the outside of each block to avoid material breakout known as splintering. But even this was made easy with ALPHACAM’s functionality of being able to partial machine a complete geometry.” The artwork designer, Fraser Muggeridge, runs a design practice close to Farringdon station. He has done work previously for the Underground, and has also written about the Johnston font.

Case Study Furniture Manufacturer Invested In Wood Waste Heater In First Year Of Trading A furniture manufacturer that invested in a wood waste heater in the first year of trading has purchased a second one due to business expansion. John Elliott, MD of House of Elliott, a high-end bespoke furniture manufacturer that has been trading for the last 7 years is delighted with his wood waste heaters from Wood Waste Technology, as they are delivering everything promised regarding the provision of free heating and reduction in waste disposal costs. When House of Elliott, based just outside York, outgrew its original workshop and moved to new premises, it needed an economical source of heating. An investigation on Google led to John Elliott contacting Wood Waste Technology and subsequently purchasing a wood waste heater. When the company expanded again, to acquire more storage space and create a dedicated paint room, John got back in touch with Wood Waste Technology to order a second wood waste heater for the new area. John explains “I’d seen the benefits of wood waste heaters in other businesses, so I realised how beneficial they could be in a manufacturing environment – which is why we invested in a wood waste heater in our first year of trading. The heaters can burn all kinds of wood, and give off a nice dry heat which is perfect for our workshop where we use wood and paint! “With its very high ceilings and the roller shutter door opening regularly, our workshop could be very cold in winter, but the wood waste heaters do a great job in keeping the areas warm. They’re very easy to use, and the team at Wood Waste Technology was so helpful and very professional to deal with. I’d definitely recommend them.” Kurt Cockroft, Managing Director at Wood Waste Technology says: “Businesses with a significant amount of wood waste can get payback on their investment in a wood waste heater in as little as 12 months because of the savings that can be made by reducing heating and skip hire bills.” Wood Waste Technology offers a full range of wood waste heaters, from small hand fired units to larger fully automatic systems, and offers site survey and design, as well as manufacture, installation and on-going maintenance. The company also services all types of wood waste heaters and supplies genuine spares up to 60% cheaper than other suppliers. In addition, Wood Waste Technology is the UK’s official distributor for Gross Apparatebau GmbH, a German manufacturer of dependable, precision engineered shredders and briquetters. The company is also a distributor for Putzmaus boiler tube cleaning systems - a powerful but gentle routine maintenance solution that is quick and easy to use, and helps to increase boiler efficiency and lower operating costs.

Case Study SCM & Lamello: A Smart Partnership Lamello AG and SCM UK share a common goal: to offer simple, smart and effective solutions that enhance productivity in the woodworking industry. Both innovators in their own right, their products are intrinsically linked and as they continue to push the boundaries of design and technology, they’ve joined forces to offer a one-hit machining process that gives CNC users a quick and cost-effective way to join panels without the need for glue. “For many years there has been a need to standardise the way we connect cabinets,” begins Duncan Smith, Showroom Manager at SCM UK. “In Europe, this has long been Lamello’s niche – in many countries they are seen as the industry standard – and their joining solutions have become the go-to fixings for many manufacturers. Whilst relatively new in the UK, the macros Apps developed by SCM that allow for effective one-click insertion of Lamello’s P-System and Cabineo have been tried and tested over several years. As new fixings are launched and the technology behind our machines continues to advance, our in-house team continues to create and update Lamello-ready macro Apps that are free to download from our very own Maestro software system.” Although these are used by SCM customers globally, Duncan admits the UK market is only now starting to understand the true time-saving benefits of Lamello’s range when used on SCM’s CNC range.
“Regardless of the size of your production or the CNC model being operated, our universal Lamello macro Apps offer simple and effective one-hit machining. No second machining is required – that’s the beauty of this process – it can all be completed on a single machine. You could be a small joinery workshop using a Morbidelli N100 3-axis flatbed CNC or a large manufacturer operating a top-ofthe-range, fully-automated X400. The principle remains the same. Our macro Apps offer quick, precise and consistent results for joining panels, whatever model you use.” With multiple processes to choose from on SCM’s Maestro Digital System, each function has been designed to offer solutions to a wealth of panel processing requirements. “One size doesn’t fit all,” says Duncan. “When it comes to the Cabineo, where do you want the macro to start? Do you want the panel to be drilled or routered? Do you want repetition or do you want to work with 90-degree butt joints or mitre joints? Alternatively, when it comes to the P-System, do you want the router tool to complete the job in one sweep or use the saw blade to cut 1.2mm and draw back out? Our macros have been designed for easy manipulation, offering you complete flexibility. You can even set-up parametric conditions within that panel that make the CNC introduce more connectors automatically if the width or length of the panel changes. And, because our software is designed in-house and we don’t rely on third parties, our customers have everything at their fingertips. It’s simplicity at its best.”

Case Study
For those customers that haven’t yet experienced Lamello’s CNC connectors for themselves, demonstrations at SCM’s Nottingham showroom illustrate just how quick, easy and accurate the process is. “We encourage our customers to come and see our machines in action and to watch the whole process. We also perform demonstrations remotely, via multi-cam live broadcast, on our customer’s preferred web collaboration platform. We place a piece of MDF on the table of one of our three, four or five-axis models and cut six squares from it. Every side is machined and assembled in under five minutes flat,” explains Duncan. “Customers are always wowed by the sheer speed of the process and the level of accuracy achieved when using Lamello’s fixings. These results are simply not achievable when using traditional cam and dowel fittings. You can’t match the speed, precision and overall strength of the product which, not forgetting, is completed entirely on one machine. This, partnered with free software updates offered to customers several times a month and access to hundreds of readily-available macro Apps to drag and drop into your cabinet programmes, makes for a winning combination. All that’s left to do is to purchase an aggregate and your fixings from a Lamello dealer.” Duncan adds, “Smart partnerships lead to good outcomes. For us, it would be a limitation not to have Lamello’s fixings featured on the software on our machines. SCM and Lamello work in sync. We are both innovators and we are both committed to our customers. That’s why together, we offer dynamic solutions that allow our customers to stay ahead of the curve.”

Case Study Taylor Made Joinery Investing In The Future With HOMAG UK Established in 1981 by James Taylor, Taylor Made Joinery Interiors Limited (TMJ) began trading from a 1,500 sq. ft. barn at Newberry Farm in Suffolk. The company manufactured the domestic joinery for GA Taylor Builders, his father’s construction company. During the 1990s TMJ moved into a purpose built 36,000 sq. ft. works and completed the most prestigious project to date, the refurbishment of 10 Downing Street. Since then it has completed many notable projects including restoring the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle after the devastating fire in 1992, the Royal Opera House refurbishment of the main auditorium, the £5.5m Royal Festival Hall project and the London 2012 Olympics project worth £7.5m. In 2018 the directors of the business could see that the work the business was handling was changing. “There was an increasing demand for cabinetry units,” explains founder and managing director, James Taylor. He continues, “To accommodate this change we realised we would need to increase our production to remain competitive in the market.” A major investment “Rather than opting for a short-term fix, we decided the time was right to make a major investment in the future of the business. We wanted to automate large swathes of our production process to give us a significant competitive advantage. “So began a thorough market evaluation. We looked at where the market was and where we thought it was heading. We evaluated our main competitors to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and we looked at what new machinery and software were available to automate our production processes. Following this we predicted what we thought the needs of the business would be over the next five years, all of which was done prior to COVID-19, of course.
The DRILLTEQ V-500 Vertical CNC has delivered a 50 per cent improvement in time-saving for TMJ outlay was much greater. Accommodating this new equipment into our operation meant a £¾ million project for the construction of a new 13,000 sq. ft. building which required the demolition of part of the existing site.” Partnering with HOMAG UK “The decision to procure the STORETEQ S-200 with the SAWTEQ B-300 was part of a package of equipment that we eventually purchased from HOMAG UK. The process of finding the right partner for this equipment began with looking through the various trade magazines and going to the trade fairs in Germany and the UK. “Once we had completed our initial research we contacted Charles Smith, our HOMAG UK area manager. We have known Charles for many years and during this time have built a strong and trusting relationship with him. His knowledge and experience of the industry are second to none, and he really understands our business. “He listened to our goals and then helped us put together a package of machinery and software that would deliver what we were looking for. Charles was able to bring to the party, not only his extensive experience, but also the knowledge of successful solutions his other clients have implemented. “From our side, we wanted to specify machines with a little bit of extra flexibility to cope with the changes in demand that often occur in the market. Whilst we’re doing a lot of cabinetry work at the moment, we need to have the ability to handle more solid joinery jobs and work with other materials when the need arises.
The CENTATEQ P-210 5-Axis CNC Router has enabled TMJ to enter new markets with an expanded product range “Perhaps the biggest commitment we made was to invest in HOMAG’s automated storage and retrieval system, the STORETEQ S-200 along with the SAWTEQ B-300. Although this machinery itself was a major investment, the overall
28
www.p-j-production.com
“Together we were able to draw up a list of equipment that included a DRILLTEQ V-500 vertical CNC, the SAWTEQ B-300 beam saw coupled with the STORETEQ S-200 automatic storage and retrieval system, a LOOPTEQ O-300 automatic return system for our airTec edge bander and a CENTATEQ P-210 5-axis CNC router. We also invested in the MagiCut software to maximise the potential of the beam saw. “Before committing to the machinery, Charles arranged for us to visit various UK manufacturers who had similar models. Seeing the machines out in the field working on real jobs is very important to us.
Case Study “It’s all about engaging our workforce in the procurement process. So when we visited these sites we took some of our operators along with us. This gave them the opportunity to talk to fellow operators in other businesses, not only to understand how the machines perform, but also to learn new techniques and production ideas that could potentially benefit our business.” Setting up the new facility “Back in 2013 we were one of the first companies to invest in the HOMAG BHX 200 vertical drilling CNC. Since then, we have experienced exceptional business growth and a bottleneck had emerged in the production of cabinets, specifically regarding the jointing process. “Consequently, the first of the new machines to be installed in February 2019 was HOMAG’s DRILLTEQ V-500. Previously, we used to ‘biscuit’ the joints for cabinets and carcasses; this was done on the bench by hand; it was, however, a slow and far from satisfactory process which involved a fair amount of finger crossing when it came to lining up the holes and making the joint flush! “The DRILLTEQ V-500 has changed all this; it not only drills the holes accurately and quickly, but it also delivers a 50 percent improvement in time-saving as it automatically inserts the dowels, consistently producing stronger joints with absolute accuracy. “The STORETEQ S-200 with the SAWTEQ B-300 was perhaps the most significant part of our plan. The installation of this automated storage and retrieval system was critical and I have to take my hat off to the professionalism of HOMAG’s installation team. The complex process took time, but the install went very smoothly, and I would like to pay tribute to one particular HOMAG engineer, Gordon Mackenzie, who was so accommodating throughout the process. “This technologically advanced system has revolutionised our business. It gives us the ability to increase our production capacity by at least 20 percent. We can load the sheet material in the day time, select and prepare the panels in the evening whilst the factory is shut, then cut them when the shift arrives in the morning before sending the work pieces straight to the edge bander and the CNC machines. “It makes the most of the whole day, not just the normal working hours and it’s given us options. Previously a lot of the panels were subbed out for cutting, but now we can handle all of the work in-house so we control everything, especially the quality. And of course, we save on transport, handling and sub-contractor fees too.”
The STORETEQ S-200 Automated Storage and Retrieval System has increased production capacity by at least 20 per cent Establishing a door and door-frame cell “Our new CENTATEQ P-210 CNC was purchased to manufacture our doors and door frames. Again, previously a lot of our door packages were subbed out, but in the last month we’ve made around 400 door sets within the factory, so that’s given us yet another competitive advantage. “We can now diversify into different products as well. So we are able to target new markets where previously we wouldn’t have been able to compete. For example, we are now competitive in both the hotel fit out and laboratory markets. “Our reasons for partnering with HOMAG are numerous. Over the years a real trust has built between our two companies. This has been cemented by Charles Smith whose input and professionalism we value highly. The German parent company not only designs and produces innovative, easy to operate machinery with a robust build-quality, but it also develops first class software and control systems. “All this is backed up by an extensive network of engineers in the UK who support and service us when the need arises. Financially, the HOMAG solution works well too; we expect to achieve a return on our recent investments within four years. “In June this year we added another HOMAG DRILLTEQ V-500, this time with an automatic return system. This was purchased to handle the increasing amount of repeat business we get. Our turnover for this year will be around £36 million; however, with recent investments in HOMAG machinery and software, we will see this grow to over £50 million within a few years despite the COVID-19 pandemic. “The automated solutions from HOMAG have helped us operate safely throughout these unprecedented times. We have established a two shift working pattern with a one hour gap between shifts to allow for cleaning down. It would be remiss of me not to mention our own workforce whose flexibility and dedication in these challenging conditions have, in no small measure, been responsible for us being able to maintain our production levels,” concludes James Taylor.

Feature Launch Of New Aisle Master Order Picker: Aisle Master-OP Combilift officially launched the latest addition to its product portfolio in a recent virtual press conference. The new Aisle Master-OP (AME-OP) is a stand-on electric powered model that combines the advantages of a narrow aisle articulated forklift and an order picker for versatile operation in warehousing and manufacturing applications. The development of this model was influenced by customer feedback - as has often been the case with Combilift’s innovations - as well as the recent soaring growth of e-commerce. “Customers already using the Aisle Master for space saving, storage and efficiency in their warehouse asked if we could redevelop the Aisle Master to meet their ever-growing demand for order picking customised orders”, said Combilift CEO Martin McVicar. Research & Development carried out in 2019 & 2020 has created the Aisle Master-OP, a main feature of which is the step-through operator compartment which has design copyright protection (European Design Registration No. 002676809-0001), across multiple markets in 4 continents. The low floor height of just 280mm enables convenient, single step access from both sides of the truck which speeds up order picking compared to the operator having to get in and out from a seated position. The AME-OP truck has all the key advantages of the conventional Aisle Master indoor/outdoor operation for loading/offloading and for stock replenishment at other times during shifts when order picking is not required. The Aisle Master-OP is available in a number of variants, with lift capacities from 1,500kg to 2,500kg, lift heights of up to 12.1m, and can operate in aisles as narrow as 1650mm. It features a patented chain steering system (EU Patent No. 3008008), which allows the truck to articulate more than 205°, and an inline drive motor and front drive axle, all of which enable narrower aisle operation. The multifunctional programmable joy stick control lever in the operator compartment, which includes controls for the hydraulics and traction, is adjustable to enable comfortable and ergonomic working conditions for operators of all sizes. The Operator Presence Detection floor pad engages the parking brake automatically when the operator steps off the truck to carry out order picking.
“Before we officially launch any new model, Combilift carry out extensive field testing on customer’s sites, and this was the case with the Aisle Master-OP”, said Martin McVicar. The AME-OP is now a production model within Combilift, with units currently in build for customers in the United States and in New Zealand - one of which is Sorted Logistics based in Christchurch New Zealand, a third party logistics provider and freight forwarder who will be receiving eight AME-OP units shortly. “This is a major innovation”, added Martin, “and the versatility to use the one Aisle Master for multiple applications - narrow aisle operation, truck to rack handling, bulk picking and item order picking - will result in strong demand for this new product in our home and export markets around the world.” Link to video: https://youtu.be/51BcvUuUI-k

Feature New Range of Single- and Two-Component Liquid Polyurethane Adhesives Kenyon’s are pleased to bring to the market a range of single- and two-component liquid polyurethane adhesives for bonding Architectural Panels, Fire Doors, Aluminium & Honeycomb Panels, Door Panel Fabrication, Insulation and Caravan Panels under the trusted brand Henkel LOCTITE These adhesives compliment the range of Henkel technologies that we offer, opening doors to many new markets and new applications. Kenyon’s technical team like to solve “gluing” problems and we have the know-how and support to deliver the right product for your application. One-component PUR adhesives are used in areas where easy application, reliability and durability are required. The concept of one-component PUR adhesives is based on the “water reaction” of the individual polyurethane compositions. They react with substrate moisture or ambient humidity. One-component Henkel LOCTITE UR adhesives such as, LOCTITE UR 7225 are mainly used for panel production and can be applied on larger surfaces with medium strength requirements. The products provide a foamed adhesive layer and therefore have gap filling properties, giving room for manufacturing tolerances.
High-end technical solutions in many difficult and challenging applications. Henkel LOCTITE UR products are free of VOC, and therefore applicable in normal (but well-ventilated) industrial environments. Two-component PUR adhesives consist of a resin (component A) and a hardener (component B), which are mixed in a defined ratio. Most of the two-component polyurethane adhesives are used with Henkel LOCTITE UK 5400 or 5401 hardeners. The customers’ needs and the resin component used determine which hardener should be chosen. Case Study Masterwood CNC Upgrade – One Year On Edwards and Hampson purchased their first CNC from Masterwood in 2008, a 4 axis Project 400L. After 12 years production on all types of general joinery, the decision was made to take advantage of Masterwood GB’s tradein offer and get a new advanced model with a discount in exchange for their old CNC. Edwards and Hampson’s Director Arran Jordan said, “We already had a good working relationship with the staff and engineers at Masterwood GB and it never entered into our mind to change suppliers and go with a different brand of machine”. The new Project 351L was delivered from Italy and installed in February 2020, along with a new specialist stair software package. “The removal of the existing machine and installation of the new one was seamless. Initially we had some minor problems, but these were effortlessly resolved by the Masterwood engineer who stayed late into the evening with members of staff to make sure they were fully trained”. The new Project 351L was supplied as a 4 axis CNC with aggregate heads and a dual exit, direct drive, horizontal router plus pneumatic clamps to give variations on the standard vacuum pod clamping system. The gantry bed gives a 5200mm x 1550mm working area, allowing components up to 1300mm wide to be fully machined. The machine was backed up by Masterwood’s own CAD/CAM and 3D software. Unlike the previous CNC, the addition of a built-in waste conveyer proved to be a worthwhile extra.
“A big factor of the new machine is how much easier it is to clean and maintain, saving time which would otherwise have been wasted”. Along with the CNC, they opted for the specialist StairBiz software through Masterwood. The new package is fully compatible with all the Masterwood CNC range and supplies the TLF files that allow full 3D viewing and editing of any programmes at the machine. Within the stair designs, just about any shape can be produced including angles, curves and different directions. “The software has allowed us to streamline and automate the sales, design and manufacturing process, allowing us to save time and money”. Edwards and Hampson were fortunate to have the CNC delivered and fully installed just weeks before the country entered the first lockdown in March 2020, a testing time for any business, but particularly after such a large investment. “If we had not had the new machine before the shutdown, trying to operate during the pandemic with an ageing machine could have been a disaster. Due to the increased demand we are seeing, having our old machine would have seen us unable to satisfy customer demand”. Case Study
In Control With Striebig High-end bespoke furniture company, William Loughridge Bespoke Joinery Ltd, turned to the UK’s exclusive Striebig vertical panel saw specialist, TM Machinery and Irish partner, TI Machinery, in a bid to future-proof their business and optimise their cutting processes.
We needed an automated machine that was also spacesaving.”
“Automation and digitalisation are game changers in the furniture manufacturing industry,” begins William Loughridge, Managing Director at William Loughridge Bespoke Joinery Ltd. “We knew investment in new technology would benefit our business and, with an overworked sliding table saw in need of upgrading, we knew it was the right time to optimise our production processes.” The brief was clear: William Loughridge Bespoke Joinery Ltd needed a machine that could cut 18mm chipboard, MDF and veneer panels quickly and precisely while offering a level of automation that would allow them to increase their capacity, reduce material waste and streamline their production.
“We had originally disregarded the idea of a vertical panel saw because we thought they were only suited to rough cuts and small manual cut-to-size operations,” admits William. “It was only after talking to another joiner who was using a Striebig Control and seeing it in action that we knew our misconceptions were wrong. Their Control was a highly accurate piece of kit, which, even after six years of continual use in a busy joinery shop, was still producing precision cuts with an accuracy of 0.1mm and working quickly from detailed cutting lists.”
“We presumed a beam saw would be our only option but due to its size, it would have taken up 50% of our factory floor,” says William. “This wasn’t a practical solution for us.
36
www.p-j-production.com
The solution was a new Striebig Control vertical panel saw with fully automated cut cycle and a host of new automated features.
A further demonstration of the newly released Striebig Control model and advanced ExpertCut panel optimisation software at TM Machinery’s Leicester showroom provided the incentive for the Irish joinery firm to invest in their own Striebig Control a few weeks later.
Case Study “The fully automated machine partnered with the panel optimisation software topped my wish list,” admits William. “Prior to the Striebig, our only option was to create cutting lists manually and physically set-up the machine to complete the job. It was labour intensive and human error always played its hand.” The beauty of Striebig’s ExpertCut software is that cutting lists are transferred to the workstation remotely, allowing records for cutting optimisation to be imported from standard ERP, CAD systems via CSV-format Excel files before the saw gets to work. William adds, “This has revolutionised the company’s screen-to-machine practices. What’s more, the software analyses each 3D design we create on Hexagon’s Cabinet Vision and breaks down the cabinets into individual machinable components automatically. It calculates the exact number of sheets we need and the most efficient way to cut them. It even works out the wastage on each job and determines which off-cuts can be re-used on future projects. We have reduced our waste by more than 80% since integrating Striebig’s software into our production.” The introduction of the new vertical panel saw has also simplified the operation on the factory floor. “Not only does the operator no longer need to input cutting lists manually onto the machine, the labelling system speeds up the panel distribution, too. Once cut, we used to write the dimensions of each panel on a panel edge manually and sieve through each panel to find which needed to be edged or taken to our CNC. Now, a label is generated automatically via the saw’s printer for every sized panel. It includes the component’s name, which cabinet it has been cut for, the overall dimensions, if it needs to be edged – and if so, what side needs to be edged – or whether it needs to be sent directly to the CNC. It makes each component easy to identify and saves so much time.”
When it comes to speed, the results speak for themselves: “Previously, a complete kitchen might have taken us three days to cut the necessary components. Now, the same kitchen can be finished in less than a day. It offers us the potential to triple, if not quadruple, our orders, whilst reducing manual handling. Plus, we’re still able to use our sliding table saw for rough cuts which helps us avoid a potential back-log of work if the Striebig is in continual use. This has increased our capacity by a further 10%.” With no manual set-up and designed with pneumatic assistance, which sees the saw unit plunge fully automatically into the panel, the operators can focus on the job in hand. William says, “The saw’s touch-screen operating system is user-friendly and the fully-automated cutting cycle makes it fast to use. The automatic head positioning system and panel end detection are particularly useful features, as this means we don’t have to move the stops manually when cutting different lengths. It may sound simple but this standard feature saves us so much time when working on varied cutting lists. It’s also taken the team no time at all to get their heads around the saw’s operating system, as it tells you exactly what to do and how to do it on the display screen.” Other advanced standard features include adjustable feed speeds, constant return speed of the saw unit, an operatinghour meter and a digital measuring system on both axes. When it came to integrating the ExpertCut optimisation software into the business, William says the process was seamless: “We knew what we wanted to achieve and we were fully invested in it. We expected some disruption to work flow but the transition period was really smooth. For us, we’re not looking to create a fully-automated production line. Our offer is too bespoke for that and due to the wide range of projects we work on, we will always rely on skilled craftsman to hand-finish each job. But, what the Striebig has done is open our eyes to new ways to make our business run more efficiently. As it stands, the vertical panel saw offers us more design flexibility than ever before and an efficient system for cutting sheet material, plastics and timber. We strongly believe this software will be fundamental to the success of our business going forward and we would recommend it to anyone.”

Profile Intorex - CNC Wood Turning Solutions Intorex, based just outside Barcelona, are recognised throughout the world as the premier manufacturer of both CNC lathes and CNC 5 axis machining centres. These machines can be used to produce a wide variety of turned and shaped products for solid wood furniture, stair parts and some special commissions such as a machine for producing Hurley Sticks. Whilst Intorex manufacture a standard range of CNC machinery, in many cases the final configuration is specifically designed to suit a customers’ individual production requirements. The CNC lathe range consists of three different models, the entry level CNB 1500, the midrange CKI 1500 / 2000 and lastly the top of the range CKX which can be supplied with a maximum working length capacity of 600, 1300 or 1600mm. All of these machines are quick and simple to set up as no sample or template is needed, instead profiles to be turned are easily created on the resident IntorEDIT design software which is supplied as standard across the range. All machines feature 2 independent CNC controlled gouges, one for roughing and the other for finishing and thanks to the CNC control it is possible to achieve excellent quality and definition of the turned parts. On request the CKI and CKX models can be fitted with an optional 4th CNC controlled axis on which either a router unit, inclinable milling unit or sanding head can be mounted, in addition to the 2 standard CNC gouges and the hydraulic pre-rounding gouge. This makes the lathes extremely versatile.
machines or on request a robot arm can be specified to automatically take the turned piece from the lathe and load it in to the sander. For the volume production of small turned parts up to 300mm long such as sofa feet there is the all new CNC CRM rotary lathe and sander combined. For the production of small items such as knobs and caps there is the TRD65 model. Intorex also manufacture the HB65 dowel rounding machine. Last, but certainly not least there is the range of TMC and TKC 5 axis CNC machining centres which can be used to produce both standard turned parts and more complex shaped parts. These machines are equipped with automatic loading, shaping head, sanding head and sawblade and / or gouge for turning. There is then also an overhead router head with 10-position rotary tool changer. Working lengths can be either 1500 or 3000mm. In the UK there are many successful Intorex machine installations with a number of customers having 2, 3 or more machines.
Although there is the option of the inbuilt sanding unit on the lathes, Intorex also supply the LNX CNC rotary sander that usually would work in conjuction with a CKX lathe. In this case they can be operated as two standalone

Case Study Hoffmann & Ahmarra Door Solutions Produce Precision Craftsmanship Ahmarra Door Solutions specialise in manufacturing performance doorsets for projects where complex fire resisting, acoustic and security requirements exist. A combination of precision machinery and fine craftsmanship enables Ahmarra to meet the highest quality, performance and certification requirements. One of these precision machines is the Hoffmann MS 35SF combination double mitre saw and router. As an absolute innovation the Hoffmann MS 35-SF delivers two clean precision mitre cuts without break-out, to an exact length in one machine cycle. When both pieces are to be joined together, they can be prepared with one or two dovetail slots in precise positions in the cut faces for jointing with Hoffmann Keys. Ideal for cutting profiles for glazing beads, cornices, plinths etc. in wood, aluminium or plastic at 45°. It can also be used solely as a Double Mitre Saw. The technology, developed by Hoffmann for damping vibrations of the blades ensures the high precision cut of the MS 35SF and the almost vibration free running of the machine ensures that no further work is required prior to joining. “Our Hoffmann MS 35-SF has been extremely reliable and efficient. Over the many years of manufacturing, many of our machines have required replacing and updating as expected, but the Hoffmann MS 35-SF has continued to manufacture a precision product with only routine maintenance required, and we see no reason to replace it in the near future. This combination machine not only cuts the perfect mitres but simultaneously routers the dovetail slots for the Hoffmann Keys. Ahmarra have a long relationship with Hoffmann, and our current Hoffmann MS 35-SF has been in operation for over 20 years, and still performs with the expected accuracy and precision that it did the day it was installed” Ahmarra works very closely with architects and interior designers to meet their requirements, allowing flexibility in design while retaining comprehensive fire certification in accordance with Building Regulations. Hoffmann Dovetail Keys are all accredited with FD30 / FD60 ratings.

Salvador Boosts Customer Performance Across UK & Ireland Daltons Wadkin are helping manufacturers across the UK and Ireland increase productivity through the supply and installation of Salvador crosscutting systems. Despite the obvious challenges of 2020, sales of Salvador crosscutting solutions have seen exponential growth over the past 12 months, a trend that looks set to continue into 2021. Increased sales to producers of garden furniture, studios, sheds, timber framed buildings, fencing, joinery, pallets and cases have been fuelled by a need to meet soaring demand, boost capacity and take control of manufacturing in house. All timber processors should be aware of the countless benefits a Salvador automatic crosscut saw can bring to their production. The SuperPush 200, SuperPush 250 and SuperAngle 600 all share the same key attributes. Optimising; reduce waste, increase yield Salvador automatic saws benefit from full PC control. Running powerful optimising software, cutting lists are
continually analysed to give maximum material yield for each individual length of timber cut. Residual off cuts can then be ‘shattered’ for secondary processing and removed from the production line through an optional waste trap door. Defecting; grade and remove Operators can decide which parts of a timber length are acceptable and which are not. Using a fluorescent pen, operators mark knots and shakes which don’t meet production standards. The Salvador analyses these defects in conjunction with the cutting list to optimise the length accordingly. In a similar method, entire lengths of timber can be graded from 1 to 5 with each grade having its own separate cutting list.

Profile Reduce labour, reduce costs The work of four or five operators using manual saws can be handled by a single Salvador crosscut. Customers upgrading from other models of automatic saw can also expect a performance boost. A host of optional infeed and outfeed features further increase throughput; chain infeed, increase pusher speed, automatic outfeed collection, outfeed length selectors, label or inkjet printing. Accuracy and versatility Whether straight or angled cutting, a Salvador will meet the strictest of tolerances. Standard machines deliver cut lengths to within +/- 0.5mm. Not good enough? The optional magnetic strip system increases accuracy to +/-0.1mm. When angle cutting, rotation of the blade between +/- 70° is made in under a second to a precision of +/- 0.1° (special angle parameters are available as an option). Software integration Salvador has the power to adapt to your preference. Cutting lists can be programmed directly at the machine or remotely from any office-based PC using a familiar Excel spreadsheet. The data is then transferred via USB drive or standard wired/ wireless network connection. For timber frame manufacturers the Salvador can be integrated into existing software production management systems such as Consultec, hsbcad, Wolf Systems etc.
Service; installation, training, support Over the past 120 years, Daltons Wadkin has built an enviable reputation for providing first class customer support. Beginning with the sales process, customers can expect detailed discussions and working demonstrations to help define their requirements. Following a pre-delivery site visit, our engineering team puts in place a turnkey installation package to cover delivery, commissioning and operator training to help ensure maximum return for your investment. Ongoing telephone and remote NET support is provided free for the lifetime of the machine with optional planned preventative maintenance contracts also available.
