It sure is thirsty weather at the moment – just ask this koala at Taronga Western Plains Zoo! Photographer Peter Woodward was at the zoo over the weekend to see the koalas being showered with water, but that wasn’t enough for this dinki di Aussie, who took the chance to lap up an extra drink from the zoo’s watering system.

Transport industry vital to local economy
Water boost planned for Burrendong as level drops
AS one of the city’s biggest employers, Dubbo’s economy remains reliant on a strong transport industry. Walkers Transport was the city’s largest trucking firm back in the 1970s and last weekend’s company reunion illustrated that only too well – many of those present had dedicated their whole careers in the business. Former manager John Scott says not enough people understand the importance of the transport industry to the local economy. “If the trucks stopped running, people would starve pretty quickly... Without the transport industry Australia stops.”
LAKE BURRENDONG’S current level of 10 per cent is predicted to drop to just three per cent in coming months, with local communities and commercial users all likely to be affected.. “If it remains dry, Burrendong is likely to be around 3-4 per cent by the end of March,” a spokesperson for WaterNSW told Dubbo Photo News. With irrigators already on water restrictions, recreational users of the public waterway could also be impacted. The current conditions are also creating additional problems.
