A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH
We’re here for you, continuing to publish your local paper DUBBO Photo News is open for business, and in the entire history of this newspaper, never have we been more needed by the local community. Businesses are hurting and jobs are being lost – we’re here to do what we can to assist those small businesses and sole traders to generate traffic through their doors and keep our community whole. If your business is quiet, that means there’s never been a better time to advertise your goods and services and our staff will help you there. Many food outlets and restaurants who have never offered home delivery will be using that as a new business model to generate trade and revenue, and Dubbo Photo News will be able to tell you who’s doing what and how you can access those services. Some places where our readers normally pick up Dubbo Photo News may be closed in the coming weeks, so we will be doing all we can to make sure our papers are well stocked in the places that are open. If you have trouble picking up a copy, call our office on 6885 4433, or read the full digital edition online at www.dubbophotonews. com.au. Please note our office front door is now closed as a precaution, so please call ahead on 6885 4433 to discuss any enquiries. We’re determined to keep publishing at this crucial time. If there’s anything we can do to help, please get in touch. Stay strong, Dubbo! – Best wishes from the Dubbo Photo News team
By JOHN RYAN Molly Croft’s mum Ange has always been a big believer that education is key and now, more than ever, she needs the community to be educated. She feels that for many locals, the threat of the Coronavirus is something distant that happens to old people in China or Italy. Mrs Croft is concerned that far too many people aren’t taking the threat seriously. In her household, social distancing is literally a matter of life and death, with 13-year-old Molly (pictured at home this week with ‘Peter Rabbit’) struggling with immune deficiencies after years of fighting cancer.

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE Confirmed COVID-19 cases here are a ‘wake-up call’
By THE DPN REPORTING TEAM LOCAL political leaders are urging every single person in the Dubbo region to take social distancing much more seriously. Following the news of three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Dubbo electorate, first revealed by Dubbo Photo News online on Tuesday, Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders is urging the community to get serious about protecting yourself and others. Mr Saunders reminded people that the virus does not discriminate, and it is everyone’s responsi-
bility to do the right thing to help ‘flatten the curve’. “It seems to have taken a long time for people to be getting over the ‘she’ll be right mate’ type of attitude,” Mr Saunders told Dubbo Photo News. There’s been a lot of concern about what the future looks like – the very simple message is that we are all part of the solution, he said. “So it’s simply not good enough anymore to say ‘somebody else will fix it’ – we need to all together be part of the solution.” Off the back of the confirmed local COVID-19 cases, Mr Saunders
pleaded with his electorate not to panic or engage in anti-social behaviour, but rather consider the news as a wake-up call. “It’s a reality check for everyone who maybe has been thinking it is unlikely to get here.” Meanwhile, writing in today’s Dubbo Photo News, Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton is also urging everyone to take the pandemic recommendations seriously. “We want to minimise and slow the spread, especially to support those most vulnerable to this illness in our communities,” he said. “But in order for this to happen,
we need to keep following the advice of health authorities, and take very seriously the need to practise excellent hygiene, social distancing and self-isolation.” Mr Coulton believes regional Australians should be showing the way for the rest of the nation. “As regional Australians, we have a real opportunity here to set an example for our city counterparts, to slow the spread of this virus. The decisions we make today will determine both our short and long-term futures,” he writes.
