Consumer goods companies have been seen to branch outside across industries and product for hiring, despite traditionally limiting their mid-career recruitment to professionals already experienced in their industry. This is thought to be in order to prioritize the more urgent need for top multilingual/global talent. ■ Companies also have been putting effort into improving their hiring processes to become more streamlined. In the current highly competitive seller’s market, candidates with bilingual skills often are presented with multiple offers, leaving little room for companies that take too long to reach their final decision. ■ The consumer goods industry has not seen noticeable increases in salaries. Nonetheless, with the rising demand for bilingual candidates as outlined above, the challenge for consumer goods companies in 2019 will be how to provide more competitive packages, not only with better salaries but also with better prospects for work-life balance and more flexible ways to work.
