ecember is the month when we reflect on the year we are finishing, and look ahead to the new year. Some brands and models sold well this year, while others not so much. Motorcycle brands with the longest histories seem to have a little edge with their riders staying loyal. And some new markets, like the four-wheel UTVs and three-wheel road machines are keeping some people in the sport. And price matters across the whole spectrum of buyers. As we bring 2016 to a close and move into 2017, we’ll have a chance again to get all the top retailers together before the riding season begins. Everyone I have talked with lately who has spent some years in the motorcycle industry is excited about the return in February to Indianapolis for the new Parts Unlimited & Drag Specialties NVP Product Expo. The former Dealer Expo (aka Indy Show) held there was the major dealer show of the year for a long time and when the producer decided to get out of the trade show business, Parts Unlimited snapped it up. Beginning on page 16 we have a Show Preview with a look at just some of the many products that Parts vendors will be featuring there. Be sure to check those out. Why is Indianapolis such a great location? For starters, roughly half the population of the United States can drive there in a day. Sure, people can fly anywhere, but that can get pretty pricey to take the whole management team of a store. Driving allows for more of a dealer’s staff to go along and see all the new products and talk with the industry experts. Indianapolis has a lot of history and is motorsports friendly. Add great restaurants and all the events that Parts has planned at the show and we’ve got a winner. It’s going to be great and I hope you are making plans now to attend. Your Parts rep has all the details you need to know to go. Bring the whole team! Something else we are excited to report about was the recent success of the U.S. Trophy Team at the 91st International Six Days Enduro. The team has come close in the past, but this year they made history capturing a first-ever victory of the coveted ISDE Trophy Team award.
It’s great to see the dealers at the Parts NVP Product Expos with smiles on their faces and bags full of literature to take home with them. See you in Indy! Photo by Kinney Jones
See our ISDE event report beginning on page 50. Moose Racingsponsored Thad Duvall was a member of the Trophy Team this year and we have an interview with him on page 52 revealing his thoughts while they were all still fresh in his mind. Congratulations to Thad and the whole group of U.S. riders at this year’s Six Days. And lastly, speaking of groups, be sure to check out the story of the 2016 Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride, held in Georgia in October. It begins on page 26. Many of you have earned your spots for the ever-popular dealer rides put on by Parts Unlimited and know what a great time they are. I hope you are making plans to be on the 2017 ride this year. You’ll be glad that you did. Wishing all of our dealer and industry readers a happy holiday season.

ictory Racing’s Matt Smith rode his Pro Stock Victory Motorcycles Gunner to his first win of the season and the first for Victory Motorcycles during the NHRA Auto Club Finals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, CA.
“You don’t realize how much you miss being in victory lane until you get back to victory lane,” Smith said. “To get a victory for Victory; I like that saying. Hopefully we can do it more next year. I know we are going to have some teammates with Victory next year, and I’m just glad we got to do it first.”
The celebration began before Smith and his Victory Gunner crossed the finish line at the race in November. Smith knew he would stand on the top step of the podium when opponent Angelle Sampey went red at the start, so he pulled in the clutch and pumped his first in the air, celebrating as he went down the track.
Victory Motorcycle’s general manager Rod Krois congratulated Smith on his 18th career win, adding, “It has been a while in coming for (the) Victory Gunner in NHRA, but Matt’s historic win and the teams relentless tenacity is exactly what Victory Motorcycles is all about.” ■

Team captain Cooper Webb finished up the 2016 MXoN in the top 10 of the MXGP.
Led by team captain Cooper Webb, the USA team, which also included riders Jason Anderson and Alex Martin, powered through some tough competition and unfortunate accidents to land the third spot on the podium. “Our hats go off to Cooper Webb, Alex Martin and Jason Anderson for the performance that was given at this year’s MX of Nations,” said Andy Gustafson, head of Thor Motocross Pro Rider Support. “This is a very difficult race for multiple reasons. There is a lot of added pressure when racing this event — it certainly isn’t about a paycheck, but more about pride while representing your homeland.” ■
Alex Martin went on to finish second overall in the MX2 class.

Pushing the Limit
FMF’s Long History of Innovation
Don Emler, the man who started it all.
I
f you’ve been involved in powersports for any length of time, and in any capacity, be it as a competitor, dealership personnel or weekend enthusiast, you’re likely aware of the long tenure of FMF Racing
For more than four decades, FMF has been a standout performer in the exhaust segment through a strong combination of initiative and innovation. Let’s take a chronological look into the Flying Machine Factory and see what has contributed to the longevity of the company. Circa 1973 — Founder Don Emler’s first initiatives: Improve two-stroke race performance by building a better pipe than OE. 1994 — Don Emler’s Flying Machine Factory now in business 20 years, offers two-stroke pipes and silencers for Japanese brands, Husqvarna and KTM. The company shows considerable innovation with its original Gold Series pipes and Powercore silencers, as well as its select Gold Series Rev and Tork versions. FMF also is working to keep racers’ engines flowing and performing at the highest level. They offer O-ring spring kits, silencer packing, higher quality replacement reeds and some branded apparel. However, exhaust becomes the main focus. For the younger riders, FMF has fitments for all the two-stroke Japanese mini-racer machines.

JANUARY 2017
1995 — FMF’s catalog has ISDE quiet silencers, numerous two-stroke ATV applications, and its first four-stroke mufflers, the Gold Series megaphones. 1996 — Truly competitive production four-stroke machines are just emerging, but there are a number of two- and four-wheel thumpers that are just plain fun. FMF offers an ISDE spark-arrested muffler version for many of these machines featuring power/sound tune-ability. While box vans were the standard trackside setup even for the factories, FMF now makes event appearances in a support capacity with an innovative tractor-trailer rig. 1997 — Four strokes beginning to come into their own; FMF innovates, rebrands and promotes its four-stroke offerings with Megamax — tunable, race-inspired reverse cone technology, and the tunable Performax. Company starts to use alternative materials, components and production processes more suited for enduro and dual-sport exhaust. 1998 to 1999 — FMF releases Powercore 2 and Turbinecore 2 silencers for the newest competition machines. The aerodynamic silencers feature increased packing volume, different canisters, front and rear end caps and with progressive fit, look, and sound. The twostroke Gold series Burly (later renamed Gnarly) pipe is introduced. Today, the FMF Gnarly remains wildly popular.

FMF
Since the beginning, innovation has been the main focus of FMF’s exhaust products. This has lead to the development of such pipes as the Q4 and the Ti Powercore silencer.
Introduces innovative new FMF four-stroke products, the Powercore IV2 mufflers and the Powerbomb — a sounddampening, yet power-enhancing front pipe for four-strokes. 2000 to 2002 — SST pipe and silencers for two-strokes are introduced, named 2000 Product of the Year by Dirt Rider magazine. Powercore IV renamed to the more fitting Powercore 4 with serious revisions for performance, tuning and durability. Q mufflers and silencers are born FMF launches a new big initiative; the use of titanium for performance motorcycle and ATV mufflers and complete systems. The FMF Titanium 4 mufflers and systems are precursors to today’s even more innovative and highly developed Factory 4.1RCT products. In keeping with this titanium love affair, on the two-stroke side FMF introduces the Titanium 2 silencers. Still viable and available today for select applications, these in turn helped inspire FMF’s newest and popular anodized blue Ti Powercore 2.1 silencers. 2004 to 2005 — FMF focuses on centralizing mass. The Titanium 4 exhausts becomes Titanium 4SL, later the first FMF ‘Factory 4’ products. Additional innovations are made for overall performance increases with sound reduction, attention to quiet inserts, resonance chambers, packing density and volume. FMF introduces premium and multi-layer muffler packing. FMF Q series continues to evolve with these innovations. 2006 — The year of the titanium Megabomb header. 2007 — FMF promotes “build a system.” Off-road riders wanting quiet, better power, less weight combine a Q4
and Powerbomb or Megabomb header. ATV riders on a budget combine Powercore 4 and stainless Powerbomb. For motocross/Supercross competitor, there is the Factory 4 slip-on and the Ti Megabomb. 2008 to 2010 — FMF’s Resonance Chamber Technology makes its way into limited production with the Factory 4.1 for select machines. The industry sees the two-stroke revival for off-road/enduro racing. In response, FMF launches the Q Stealth. 2011 to present — Factory 4.1 RCT exhausts available across many brands, displacements and model years via full systems or slip-ons. Precision seam-welded titanium canister bodies save weight, increase ergonomics, further centralize mass, increase muffler-packing capacity and improve production efficiency. The Hex shape of Factory 4.1 RCT titanium leads to further initiative using aluminum, to keep products affordable for all. FMF also uses elements of these innovations on Powercore 4 and Q4 products. The 2.1 series of silencers are now available for the burgeoning two-stroke market. Stainless steel Megabombs offer high performance that’s affordable and durable, and further enhances the “build a system” approach for four-stroke and two-stroke segments in motorcycles and ATVs. Forty years-strong and FMF still has plenty of new ideas and innovative products coming our way. We can’t wait to add them to the timeline. ■

onventional wisdom holds that many of the people who get into the motorcycle industry because they love powersports actually find themselves riding less. For dealers, the reality of running a dealership means lots of long hours in the shop and less seat time out on the road. That’s why, when the opportunity to get in the wind comes knocking, they’re more than eager to saddle up and hit the highway. That’s why, when Eric Sette of Sette Sport Center in Owatonna, MN, learned that Parts Unlimited was holding its second annual Dealer Ride in Lake Lanier, GA, he knew had to make it. Sette attended the inaugural Parts ride in Arizona last year and had a blast, so he worked with his Parts rep to qualify for the 2016 run.
For its second annual Dealer Ride, Parts Unlimited xxxxxxxxxx headed to the mountains of Northern Georgia.

A crew of riders rolls through picturesque Helen, GA, a city built to resemble a Bavarian alpine town.
Sette and his wife Nancy joined other dealers and employees from 26 different qualifying dealerships at the second annual Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride, the Georgia Mountain Run, in early October. The event brought together dealers, sponsoring vendors and Parts sales reps for two days of riding the mountains of northern Georgia, while enjoying the camaraderie and good times of hanging out with friends, new and old. All attending dealers got an invite to the event by placing qualifying orders from the participating vendors.

Sette says it was great to meet up and ride with some of the same people from the Arizona ride, like getting an old club together again. He also appreciates the opportunity to get to know the vendor reps and get the inside scoop on new and popular products.

The hills, highways and country roads north of Buford, GA provided plenty of action for dealers attending the second annual Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride, the “Georgia Mountain Run.”
This year’s event kicked off with attendees rolling into the Lake Lanier Island Resort in Buford, GA. Here they enjoyed an afternoon at the Vendor Row in the resort’s parking lot. As with Sette, dealers had the chance to meet face-to-face with the sponsoring vendor reps, learn about new products, pick up some great swag, and enter to win a number of products in a giveaway drawing. A luau-themed welcome reception and dinner capped off the night.

Left and right: The second annual Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride attracted riders on all makes of bikes, from Victory and Indian, to BMW, Suzuki and Honda.
The next day it was up and riding. The run featured predetermined loops and a dedicated lunch stop. The LeMans team that puts the ride together lays out routes that are nothing short of spectacular, so it didn’t matter which loop was chosen — they were all winners. We’re talking hundreds of miles of twisty black top and the beautiful mountainous scenery of northern Georgia.
“It’s a real nice perk,” Bedeaux says. “I really appreciate Parts Unlimited doing this. They really do support the sport like the slogan says.” ■
“It was fantastic. The roads we hit were great,” says Andrea Chappell, GM of BMW Motorcycles of Grand Rapids, the store that picked up the event’s Dealer of the Year award. “It was just awesome.” The third day featured another day of riding, capped off by a farewell banquet and awards ceremony. It was a fitting end to another successful Dealer Ride, a welcome event for those in attendance, including Wayne Bedeaux of Leo’s South in Lakeville, MN. o motocross racer, off-road or Adventure rider’s kit is complete without gloves. For 2017 Thor has them all covered. This is one of the biggest selection of gloves that Thor has ever offered, no fewer than seven different styles in a variety of color and graphic choices. New to the lineup are the Invert, Draft, Rebound and Defend. The whole line also features new colorways, new designs and new features – all offered at customer friendly prices. Let’s start with the Invert. As the name implies, Thor has taken everything you thought you knew about a motocross glove and turned it inside out. An inverted seam takes those bothersome seams once inside the glove and puts them on the outside for an unbelievably comfortable fit.

Add in a notched wrist opening for easy-on/easy-off, four-way stretch backhand material, a supple yet durable perforated palm, mesh finger gussets and silicone-treated finger tips and the Invert adds up to real comfort in a motocross glove. The new Draft, like the Invert, maintains that light, minimalist feel but couples it with a more substantial chassis. A silicone print on the backhand further enhances the overall strength and structure of this one, while the Draft’s four-way stretch mesh allows lots of flexibility and cooling ventilation. There are some pretty striking color choices, too. Next up is the Rebound, built to be that super-rugged balance between coverage and flexibility. The Rebound’s light, flexible Duratek™ knuckle panels provide an additional barrier of protection during Adventure rides, while 4-way stretch mesh panels and Neoprene

cuffs improve the comfort and all-day wearability. Notched wrist openings allow ease of access, mesh finger gussets provide plenty of breathability, and there is a double-layer palm with perforations and silicone treated fingertips. That fourth new glove, the Defend, is as tough as they come. The Defend is built to handle all the bushwhacking, bark-busting fun a rider can dish out. There is raised-rubber knuckle protection and layered backhand panels for maximum coverage, as well as leather palms for grip, durability and handlebar feel. These features are coupled with flexible panels on the fingertips to allow easy use of mobile devices. With all its protection, the Defend is still touch-screen compatible. Don’t let all those new gloves have you or your customers overlooking the new-look Thor favorites, though. The Void, Flow and Spectrum are all back, better than ever.
The Void is for riders who want maximum feedback from the motorcycle. The glove’s four-way stretch top panel and single layer palm help deliver it. When the roost starts flying another Thor favorite, the Flow, is there to handle it. A refined chassis for 2017 increases comfort and performance, and the glove’s single-layer palm enhances feel and minimizes bunching. Finally there’s the Spectrum, a glove design that strikes a balance between articulation, ventilation and coverage. It’s the perfect do-it-all glove for wherever the ride takes your customers. All three — Void, Flow and Spectrum — are offered in a wide array of exciting new colors and color combinations. ■

T
ires can be a profitable part of your business and vastly important to the performance of powersports vehicles like ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides. Your customers will get greater enjoyment out of their machines when they are outfitted with tires that perform in extreme terrain, and are tough enough to last. AMS offers the tires and wheels that will keep your customers happy. AMS has just introduced the all-new M1 Evil line of UTV/ ATV tires that offer superior handling and exceptional ride performance. The M1 Evil was developed with a trucktire-like tread in a non-directional radial for a smooth ride, and with a special long lasting compound.
tread at the shoulder provides exceptional grip to get through the most severe mud. The shoulder and sidewall tread offer traction in ruts and additional protection against impacts. Your “mudder” customers will be thrilled with the performance of the Mud Evil. Also new is the Sand King, made specifically to conquer the dunes. These are large 30-inch tires designed to provide optimal float, balanced grip, and to make the most of the horsepower available from those popular ATVs.
The strong shoulder and sidewall tread on this all-around tire add protection and traction in sand, dirt and rocks. It has a healthy 1-inch tread depth and is legal for on- and off-road use.
The front tire has a solid center rib, with two adjacent segmented ribs for ultimate steering control. The rear has 14, 1-inch tall paddles to handle lots of horsepower. Also offered are Sand King wheel/tire kits, which feature the new Roll’n 108 lightweight wheel designed specifically for the Sand King tire. The front is 14x8 and rear is 14x10. Both feature bolt patterns of 4 on 137 and 4 on 156 for your customers’ most popular machines.
The second in the “Evil” tire series is the new Mud Evil, which was created with a very deep overlapping tread pattern for superior traction in deep, wet, muddy conditions, and to still give a smooth ride.
Founded in 2002, it is AMS Tires/Excel Tire & Wheel’s mission to develop and offer high quality specialty tires, inner tubes and wheels at a competitive rate and to provide a high level of service available. ■

hen it comes to off-road riding gear, every piece worn serves a very important and specific purpose. Conditions out on the trail or on the track can get pretty rough so most riders want to make sure they’re prepared for any situation. Helmets are the obvious first choice, and gloves and good riding boots are always welcome when out bushwhacking. Take a look at those boots after a long day of kicking up roost and the evidence is right there. And then there’s the item that runs high on the list of importance — a good pair of quality goggles. Eye protection is vital when the conditions are dusty and dirty, and especially imperative when rocks and other debris are flying. Your customers need to protect their eyes so point them toward Moose Racing’s new range of goggles for 2017.

Moose Racing has three styles of goggles available at price points that are likely pretty attractive to all levels of buyers. From entry level to the top model, these goggles are packed full of protection, features and the kind of quality that Moose puts into all of its products. The goggles nicely complement the company’s lineup of riding gear, whether its racewear like the Sahara, M1 or Qualifier series, or outerwear like the ADV1, Expedition and XCR lines. No matter how your customers take to the dirt — motocross, off-road or Adventure — Moose Racing has a setup for them. First up in the goggle range is the Qualifier Slash model, which comes packed with value at a great price. The Slash features a flexible, yet durable, molded, well-vented frame. A scratch-resistant and anti-fog coating protects the optically pure, clear polycarbonate lens. The Slash’s large eyeport gives riders maximum vision in all the necessary directions.

3. The Qualifier SE is a special edition goggle from Moose Racing featuring a slick looking wood grain graphic.
The goggle’s elastic strap is embedded with a tacky grip print to hold it firmly in place on the shell of a slippery helmet. And, because keeping out dust and dirt is so important, the molded face foam fits securely and snugly. The middle range goggle, the Qualifier Shade is also built from a flexible, durable and vented molded frame. The face foam on the Shade is dual-density and a comfortable fleece backing that not only wicks away sweat, but also provides a seal against dust and dirt. As the name implies, the Shade’s lens is mirror smoked and offers an optically pure view. It also has the special scratch-resistant and anti-fog coating. Your riding customers will appreciate the large eyeport that provides a great range of vision. Strap slippage is not a concern thanks to that tacky grip print that holds it in place. The third goggle in the lineup is the Qualifier SE — with SE standing for Special Edition. What makes it special? A
wood grain graphic on the tough and flexible molded frame provides a super trick look. The SE would make a standout addition to any rider’s gear bag. Like the other two in the range, the Special Edition goggle has all the features that help it wick away moisture and fit comfortably against a person’s face. There’s also that no-distortion optically pure mirror smoke lens that’s resistant to scratching and fogging, as well as the tacky grip elastic strap and large eyeport. For all of these goggles Moose Racing offers tear-offs and replacement lenses that come in a range of colors including blue, clear, smoke, silver mirrored and yellow. Off-road riders — on two-wheels or four — should always wear helmets, eye protection and protective clothing. Let those in your customer base know about the great products from Moose Racing. ■

It also has aggressive and unique tread designs and optimized profiles. is a technology developed during Michelin’s extensive motorsports experience during the 2015/2016 seasons. The Power RS, in all its sizes, now stands alone at the top of the Michelin premium sport-tire lineup. Just one quick look tells you why. Those do-it-all compounds are combined with unmistakably aggressive tread patterns, near-slick patterns comprising just 6.2 percent of the tread surface.
Michelin’s new Power RS is the company’s newest premium sportbike tire.
The Power RS comes in three front sizes and eight rear sizes, a range that should fit all the popular sportbikes.
The “RS” in Power RS refers to Rennsport, German for motorsport. This is the tire that Michelin says is ready to help unleash a bike and rider’s full potential, and there’s plenty here to do just that. Let’s start with those new dual-compounds, front and rear. Developed with Michelin’s 2CT and 2CT+ Technologies, Functional Polymer Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR), the compounds maximize wet grip with no compromise in a tenacious grip in the dry. A 100 percent Silica center tread compound maintains a high level of wet grip on the straights, while a 100 percent Carbon Black lateral compound on the shoulders maximizes dry grip in curves. For the Power RS rears, those new compounds include specially formulated elastomers that not only provide that high level of all-over grip, but also a fast warm up. This

Michelin has given the Power RS all-new profiles to optimize feel, grip, acceleration, braking, handling, and overall flickability. These profiles optimize the pressure distribution of the tire on the road and enhance the mechanical function of the big contact patches. Underneath all that there’s Michelin’s brand-new Adaptive Casing Technology Plus, ACT+, a tire design that carefully reduces the maximum rigidity in the crown area while maintaining just the right degree of rigidity in the sidewalls and shoulder areas. The result is enhanced performance overall, straightline stability combined with sidewalls and shoulders designed to minimize drifting in the curves. ■

Treated to Resist Scratching and Fogging
The Hard Coated Polycarbonate windshield offers a fresh take on Moose Utility Division’s popular folding windshields. A hard coating protects the shield from scratches, prevents it from yellowing from sunlight and from fogging up.
M
oose Utility Division’s full-folding windshields are staples among the UTV community, providing plenty of protection from the elements while remaining easy to install and easy to use. When used in combination with one of the company’s hard roofs, it’s a one-two combination that’ll keep any UTV driver well protected while out at work or play. Now Moose Utility Division has decided to up the ante with this popular shield by releasing a Hard Coated Polycarbonate windshield that’s not only functional but also tough. You see, that hard coating is there to protect that windshield against scratching, and even prevent it from yellowing over time from bright sunlight. As any of your UTV-owning customers know, those machines get used in some tough and dirty situations and getting scratches just comes along with the territory — but not so with the new Hard Coated shield. The team at Moose Utility Division made sure that the hard coating was applied to both the front and back of the windshield. The process involves dipping the shields into the coating to ensure even coverage on both sides of the polycarbonate material. This protects the front from those unsightly scratches, and the back from fogging up when the temperatures drop. That combination will keep those durable windshields looking great and working well for a good long time. The windshield itself is built from .177-inch thick polycarbonate — that’s tough construction for lots of

tough usage. The shield is centrally hinged for ventilation. Just unlatch it — no tools needed — and fold it down to let in a nice breeze. When in the up position, a rubber strap wraps around the roll cage to hold it in place. When the shield is folded down, the rubber strap wraps around a bracket to keep it snug. Moose’s full folding windshield easily mounts to the UTV’s roll bar using stainless steel, rubber-coated mount straps that will keep the shield firmly installed. ■

Designed to look like casual hoodies to the untrained eye, the Deployed (in camo options) and Stealth (all black, naturally) have D3O shoulder, elbow and back impact protectors. That low-profile armor keeps the Merc looking low-key. As a bonus, the soft shell chassis has nylon reinforcement panels and Level 1 waterproofing to get riders through light rain, and even an average snowfall.
Icon uses D3O protectors in both the Merc and Basehawk jackets to provide lightweight, low-profile protection.
S
ure, motorcycle gear keeps riders safe, but let’s be honest, most of your customers want some style to go with the substance. There is a magic combination of the two that allows riders to look good on or off the bike while still providing premium protection. Get the combination wrong, however, and you could look like either a linebacker or a fashion disaster. The pressure is on for motorcycle gear designers to get that mix of form and function correct. Icon discovered that one of the keys to avoiding bulky protective gear is to utilize D3O impact protectors. Icon uses D3O shoulder, elbow, back, hip, and knee protectors in a wide variety of its gear, ranging from classic Icon jackets to Raiden to the premium Icon 1000 line. The bright orange D3O protectors are made from a flexible, advanced patented polymer, and the “intelligent” molecules lock together on impact. Think of each piece of armor as a liquid that instantly solidifies when it hits the ground. That technology allows the protector to be thinner and lighter than the typical impact protector while still dissipating energy. D3O develops impact protectors for a lot more activities than just powersports, such as sports, industrial and military use. Each material grade is designed to deliver specific properties depending on its intended usage. What that means for Icon and its customers is high quality protective gear with a narrower silhouette.

D3O protectors are made from an advanced patented polymer that is flexible and less bulky than typical armor. The material is pliable until impact, at which time it hardens to help dissipate the energy of the impact.
Similarly, the Basehawk jacket from the Icon 1000 collection has casual styling that evokes a light jacket or hoodie more than a piece of motorcycle gear. The four-way stretch soft-shell chassis has ballistic nylon, select-grain leather panels and D3O armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. Level 1 waterproofing and a headphone pass-through are other perks. Icon knows that not every rider wants heavy, “hey look, I ride a motorcycle” pants, and the Icon 1000 Royal Drive pants are for those riders who prefer to fly — or ride — under the radar. The black Royal Drive pants are made of a waxed canvas chassis with leather accents. Access pockets on the knees allow the rider to adjust the D3O knee armor, with three possible placement positions. ■

AT LAST! USA TROPHY TEAM WINS AT ISDE
R
acing history is fascinating, particularly the history of motorcycle racing for the United States. Americans have conquered almost every type, form and specialty ever offered on the world motorcycling stage.
In motocross the U.S. has had World Champions in all classes, and Americans have won more Motocross of Nations than any other country. In road racing, Americans have had several World Champions and we’ve even topped the World Championships of Speedway. However, one title has consistently been out of grasp for U.S. riders, one many consider to be the Olympics of motorcycling, the International Six Days Enduro. While American riders have completed and won Gold Medals as individuals for many decades, the big team prize, the “International Team Trophy” has slipped the country’s grasp for 90 years.

The 2016 U.S. ISDE team changed all that. Ending America’s 90-year drought, the Trophy Team’s lineup of all-star offroad racers and ISDE veterans brought home the Big One from Spain. Led by Taylor Robert, the team included Kailub Russell, Thad Duvall, and Layne Michael, who replaced Ryan Sipes after the rider was injured the day before the team was to fly to the event. This quartet of young Americans went to Spain with high hopes and determination. The experienced members of the team helped the less experienced. They trained together at a special camp in the U.S. just for the ISDE, and upon arrival in Spain, walked the courses, foot-by-foot, together. Then for six days they raced against the best in the world and won as a team. In fact, they took the lead on day one and never lost it. Every rider put in a great performance, and Robert topped the rest of the world by winning his

“This is my sixth ISDE and it feels so good to have won with the USA team and to also get the overall individual result. The team has been great; we’ve been getting closer and closer to this year-by-year. This one is for Kurt Caselli.”
In the Junior World Trophy division (for riders under 24 years of age), Sweden took the win. The U.S. team of Trevor Bollinger, Steward Baylor, and Grant Baylor fought hard all week for second, just 45.23 seconds behind the Swedes. American women also put on a good race and just missed the podium. Team USA’s Nicole Bradford, Tarah Geiger and Rachel Gutish finished fourth.
His Race: Thad Duvall
“It was a stressful last few days, this is a huge deal for me and for the USA,” said Robert, who went to his first ISDE with the late Kurt Caselli as his captain. “I kept trying to tell myself that everything would work out, but I know anything can happen during the final moto.
Moose Racing’s Thad Duvall was one of the four riders on the USA Trophy Team and Parts Unlimited/Moose Racing was thrilled to sponsor him at the ISDE. “Moose Racing is proud to be part of history. This is a huge team achievement, something that has never been done before,” said Steve Van Zuylen Moose Racing’s Pro Rider Manager. “It took 90 years, but Thad Duvall and the rest of the USA Trophy Team won the 2016 ISDE in Spain. Parts Magazine: Congratulations on your historic win at the ISDE. Tell us about your adventures at the 2016 Six Days. Thad Duvall: For us to win was awesome. It was a long two weeks that’s for sure. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun two weeks, but the first week is full of walking, lots of walking and then the second week is full of riding, lots of riding. It’s been a long road for me, Taylor and even Kailub. He’s been around a couple of years too, so it’s a cool feeling and it’s been really nice having that fan base back home cheering us on all week long. But in the end it’s always worth it, especially this year being part of the first Trophy Team to win!

The adjustable mount assemblies are CNC machined from solid billet T6061 aircraft quality aluminum, hand-polished, triple chrome plated and hand assembled. The boards will fit 2014 and newer Chieftain, Vintage and Classic models, as well as 2015 and newer Roadmaster models. ick’s Motorsport Electrics has been in business for more than 35 years, and one of the ways the company has maintained its status in the powersports industry is by listening to its customers. When customers began to request V-twin rectifier/regulators that were manufactured in the United States, Rick’s Motorsport Electrics complied. The new line of American-made rectifier/regulators includes applications for Indian and Victory models. Victory models include the Hammer, Jackpot, Vegas, Highball, Gunner, Kingpin and Judge. Indian models include the Classic and Vintage Chief, Chieftain and Roadmaster. Rick’s will continue to add new applications to the line. The rectifier/regulators are high-quality pieces made to OEM specifications. Most have an OEM-style plug end, making them true plug-and-play installation pieces — just unplug the existing part, plug in the Rick’s rectifier/ regulator, and off goes your customer. As with all rectifier/ regulators from Rick’s, the company offers a one-year part replacement warranty. In addition to the American-made V-twin rectifier/ regulators, Rick’s also has plans to expand its line of vintage Japanese electrical parts. The word “expansion” applies to more than just products and available applications. Rick’s is moving to a larger, 15,000 square-foot facility within its hometown of Hampstead, NH, which will allow the company to better serve its customers and to easily fill orders for Parts Unlimited.

For instance, whenever Dunlop does a buy-so-many-tires/ get-so-many-tire-free program, Pro Dealers get more free tires. Pro Dealers are also supported with a wide variety of in-store point-of-sales items and displays to boost awareness and sales. There’s even a complete Dunlop store-within-a-store display available. Dunlop’s national advertising campaigns can be customtuned to an individual Pro Dealer. Postcards, flyers and email blasts announcing upcoming sales and promotions can be sent directly to a Pro Dealer’s customer list. Pro Dealers can add their own announcements to not only alert customers to those Dunlop tire specials, but
also to any special store events of their own. It all serves to build foot traffic and sales. Becoming a Pro Dealer to cash in on all of this is easy and virtually free. Your Parts Unlimited rep has the details on how to sign up and qualify. All it takes for membership is a stock of 30 Dunlop tires in-house, purchasing 10 tires when you sign up. If you already have 20 Dunlops in stock buying 10 more qualifies you for membership. Also talk with your Parts rep about Dunlop’s Motorcycle Tire Road Hazard Program, the company’s stocking solutions tailored to specific needs, its online and live training courses, seminars and product clinics, and even information on customizable in-store MotoTV product and lifestyle videos. As a Pro Dealer you get access to it all. Also get with your rep about the new Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300, a premium-quality sportbike tire at a budget price. That GPR-300, along with the Sportmax Q3, the American Elite and the Elite 4 are covered by Dunlop’s MAP (minimum advertised pricing). This is Dunlop’s guarantee that you’ll never be undersold. ■

Off-Road Answers Keeping Dirtbikes Going
The wheel sprockets are all premium quality high-carbon steel for maximum durability and long life. The countershaft sprockets are super-strong chrome-moly steel. All this comes matched with a custom selected D.I.D chain. Depending on the application it’ll be a 520DZ2 motocross race chain or a low-friction 520VX2 X-Ring® chain. D.I.D’s DirtStar rims — Original and ST-X — are both great quality and a great value. DirtStar rims are podium favorites of riders like Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac, Cole Seely, and Chad Reed to name a few. The DirtStar Originals, designed for motocross racing and general trail riding, are stronger than stock replacements. They’re available in black or silver, and they’re compatible with factory hubs, spokes and nipples for an easy, nohassle installation. D.I.D’s all-in-one chain and sprocket kits are a great and easy solution when your customers are changing out driveline components.
D
irtbikes lead a tough life. It makes little difference if it’s a motocross racer or an ordinary off-roader. By design, all dirtbikes take a pounding, and their driveline components and wheels certainly take a beating.
When things get really tough there are the DirtStar ST-X replacements. Stronger still, the ST-X rims are made with a special “7 Series” aluminum, a great choice for any Enduro or desert racer. The rims are available in all the popular sizes. ■
»» Motocross and off-road bikes lead a tough life, and D.I.D’s
chain-and-sprocket kits and DirtStar rims can keep those machines right in the heat of the action. Talk with your Parts rep for the details, and check out www.didchain.com.
Accelerated service intervals are a given here, and when the wrench sessions get focused on the chains, sprockets and rims, point your customers to D.I.D’s all-in-one chain and matching sprockets kits and the company’s DirtStar® rims. Whether it’s those driveline kits or the Originals and superstrong ST-X rims, D.I.D has what’s necessary to replace anything tweaked or bent up in the heat of the action. Many off-roaders know it’s smart practice to replace chains and sprockets as a set. Putting a new chain on worn sprockets will quickly ruin that chain, and running a worn, stretched chain over new sprockets does nothing good, either. Chains and sprockets should be a package deal and that’s what D.I.D is offering. The kits cover all the popular motocross, off-road and dual-sport bikes, from the 1980s right through to the newest models. For all applications D.I.D has taken the guesswork out of finding the correct, direct-fit parts. Available to duplicate OE gearing, kits are also offered with one-tooth over or one-tooth under rear sprockets.

New Exhausts for Sportbikes and Off-Road Bikes
The new RS-9T dual tapered muffler system for Honda’s new model CRF450R/RX.
Y
oshimura has just released a couple new exhausts your customers will want to know about. The Alpha T tapered muffler and ¾-system for liter bikes, and a Signature Series tapered dual muffler exhaust for the 2017 Honda CRF450R and CRF450RX. Customers with those lightening-hot liter bikes, the GSX-R 1000, R1 and ZX-10 will step up and take notice here. The *Alpha T tapered mufflers and that ¾-system are shaped in the Yoshimura Tri-Oval heritage, and the muffler bodies feature that all-business Works Finish. The exhausts are fit with custom carbon fiber heat shields and carbon fiber end caps. The finish and overall quality is first-rate, and for that you can thank Yoshimura’s attention to detail and tight production tolerances. Then there’s the sound. The Alpha T’s new-design tapered conical sleeve produces a higher-pitched “GP” tone than the original Alpha, and it’s also lighter.

Street and Dirt
The whole setup has been dyno- and track-tested by Honda R&D in Japan, by the American Honda MX Team and by HRC All Japan MX Racing to work with the new 449cc Unicam engine and its unique downdraft fuel injection. The result is improved throttle response and more power in both the midrange and top end, as well as enhanced handling. The exhaust is available as a slip-on set or as a full system, and it works with or without Honda’s optional electric start system on board. ■

and take a look at Yoshimura’s website for additional information, www.yoshimura-rd.com.
All this has been optimized for durability and ease of service. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Yoshimura without performance, so the Alpha T’s mufflers are optimized for maximum flow and improved ground clearance. The Alpha Ts are available as direct-fit slip-ons for the GSX-R 1000, R1 and ZX-10 and as a ¾-system for the YZF-R1. Out on the dirt, that new RS-9T dual tapered muffler system for the 2017 Honda CRF450R/RX is ready and waiting, too. Yoshimura has worked hand-in-hand with American Honda HRC engineers to develop this one, the goal being maximum performance, mass centralization for handling and rider usability.
Yoshimura’s new Alpha T tapered mufflers are available for a number of popular sportbikes.
All of those features have been achieved by moving the new RS-9T mufflers forward and tucked in under the side number plates for a lower center of gravity. They also feature a new-design 3-stage header, a larger muffler core and a new tailpipe divider. Timeless Performance Two New Exhausts for 2017
J
ust take a look at the new 2017 models being introduced this year at the EICMA show in Italy and you’ll clearly see that classic motorcycle styling is large and in charge. The new bikes join a growing range of popular no-nonsense motorcycles that are built to be well ridden and greatly admired. For this increasingly popular motorcycle aesthetic, LeoVince has released its new Classic Racer slip-on exhaust. This trumpet-shaped beauty is a tribute to that cafe culture, offering modern performance, retro styling and an unmistakable exhaust note. The Classic Racer is built from AISI 304 stainless steel for long-lasting durability, and features a brushed-finish end cap and an embossed LeoVince logo. It’s available for a number of Triumph’s popular models, and Moto Guzzi’s V7 II. For more modern bikes, LeoVince offers its new GP Duals exhaust that’s available as a slip-on or full system. These pipes offer plenty of “race” charm with an aggressive

design and stellar performance. Like the Classic Racers, the GP Duals are made from AISI 304 stainless steel, which is then treated with a metallic ceramic-based temperature-resistant black paint — a combination that promises plenty of long-lasting durability. The GP Duals are easy to install and feature that well-known LeoVince logo that’s laser etched into the ceramic coating. ■

Off-Road and Dual-Sport Products
P
SR is widely known for its aftermarket sportbike accessories, but the company also has a range of off-road and dual-sport products that are now available through Parts Unlimited.
Among the new products from PSR are dual-sport mirrors, which the company has hailed as being virtually unbreakable. The mirrors are small but mighty, thanks to a convex shape that encompasses a wider view of what’s behind. The mirrors, sold singly, are available in three sizes and shapes – there is a 3¼-inch oval mirror, a round 4¼-inch mirror, and a 5¼-inch hex-shaped mirror. A 1-inch ball end makes the part compatible with a RAM mounting system, and the mirrors adjust and even fold in easily. The mirrors are available in black finish. For long-haul riders who need to carry gear or fuel, PSR’s new universal luggage rack bolts onto a rear fender with provided hardware. Drilling is necessary for mounting, but just two to four holes are required. The rack’s design gives it a multitude of mounting options.
These unique dual-sport mirrors feature a 1-inch ball end that makes them compatible with the RAM mounting system.
With one of PSR’s multi-function universal luggage rack, your customers can do everything from mount a topcase to attach a RotoPax fuel pack. It’s also sturdy and lightweight.
The rack offers a two-way mounting pattern for RotoPax fuel packs, and it has mounting holes for the Givi Monokey Topcase. There is a built-in ½-inch flag/whip mounting hole, large openings for attaching straps, and extra threaded holes for mounting other components. The black anodized luggage rack is sturdy and lightweight, weighing in at only 16 ounces. ■
