In This Issue

or the 31st time, I can write that this issue concludes a year of Parts Magazine issues. It’s true. The first time I wrote that was back in 1994 as we wrapped up our inaugural year of publishing a magazine for Parts Unlimited and looked ahead to 1995. We had many of the same brands with us back then as we do today, but of course their product lines have been updated and expanded many times over.

In this issue, we have a report on the recent revival of Parts Unlimited’s dealer ride in the “U.P.,” which of course means the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, north of Wisconsin. For the first time since 2013, a contingent of Parts Unlimited dealers, sales reps and vendors got to gather in Marquette, Michigan for three fun and informative days of motorcycle, side-by-side and even E-Bike riding, and product education. Be sure to check out the report starting on page 54. If you were there, you’ll likely see your name and/or picture. If you weren’t there, you can see what you missed. In either case, stay in touch with your Parts rep to learn how to get plugged in for the 2025 ride.

Speaking of events, looking ahead, the Spring 2025 NVP Product Expo is just around the corner. On the weekend of January 25-26, the world of Parts Unlimited will be showcased at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville. Over 300 exhibitor booths will be filled with products that dealers can sell for every segment of the sport, most with special show discounts that will be found throughout the hall.

If you aren’t signed up yet to attend this all-important 2025 season kick-off event, contact your Parts rep for all the information, including hotels and special events going on. We hope to see you there!

I’ll close with the same topic I began with. It’s amazing how fast we got through the first 31 years of publishing Parts Magazine. We are thankful for all the support we have received through the years from everyone at LeMans Corporation, as well as their many sales reps and vendors, and all of you in the retail stores who read the magazine.

We eagerly await season #32 in 2025 and more chances to share information about their events, products and the people like you who are the lifeblood of the motorcycle sport. Time marches on! ■

Ride Safe!

PS: As this issue was nearly completed, we received news of the passing of Blaine Birchfield, an aftermarket veteran who spent many years in the sales department at Cobra Engineering. See more about this long-time friend to many of us in the motorcycle industry in our News section. Godspeed Blaine.

MOOSE RACING ATHLETES DECK THE HALLS WITH CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES

As the season winds down, and the brightest athletes in off-road tighten their grips on titles and trophies across the U.S., the championship podiums are once again adorned with Parts Unlimited Moose Racing athletes. Another tumultuous season filled with the toughest off-road terrain in the country, the brightest stars shined through with some unforgettable championship wins.

None shone more brightly than FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers’ Grant Davis. The Moose Racing rider clinched the GNCC XC2 250 Pro class championship with a resounding overall win at the Penton GNCC, the penultimate round of the season.

Davis wasn’t done there; the Landers KTM rider continued to dazzle at the International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) where he helped the American contingent secure a podium in the Junior World Trophy division. He then went on to capture his second national championship of 2024, this one coming in the National Enduro NE Pro2 division.

Davis’ Landers KTM teammate Brandy Richards was another standout in the 2024 season, to no one’s surprise. Richards put her stamp on the U.S. Sprint Enduro series, closing out an undefeated season at the finale in South Carolina. Brandy was once again the dominant force on the world stage at the ISDE, where she won all six days of competition to capture the individual championship, as well as the Women’s World Trophy Team win. Of course, no team victory is done singlehandedly—veteran Six Days competitor and fellow Moose

Racing athlete Rachel Gutish, in her ninth ISDE, joined Ava Silvestri on the three-woman team to bring home the fifth WWT trophy for the U.S.

In the West, the FMF RPM KTM team kept the wins coming for Moose Racing. First they wrapped up the WORCS Women’s Pro Championship with Kaitlyn Jacobs. Then, the RPM team welcomed Mason Semmens back from injury. The young Australian had his share of midseason challenges, but clawed his way back into the fight in WORCS Pro 250, as well as the Pro II championship in the National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) Series. Win by win, Semmens was able to bring home both titles.

The WORCS Pro 250 championship came down to the final lap of the season, with Semmens nabbing the win, and clinching the title on a tiebreaker, carding more wins than runner-up Colton Aeck. In the NGPC Pro II championship, Semmens’ first attempt was a success as he rode a flawless race at the Blythe round in California to clinch the title with one round remaining.

FMF RPM KTM teammate Tristun Alvarez also brought a pair of championships to the team, claiming the Pro 125 title in WORCS, and the 98-200cc AA title in NGPC. The youngster is yet another bright star in the Moose Racing family, ready to step up in the ranks. “If you told me two years ago that I’d have three championships, I wouldn’t have believed you. The strides I have made with this team are incredible. On to the next chapter; time to bring home some 250 hardware in 2025!” ■

NEWS EVENTS AND RIP Anthony Blaine

Birchfield

W5/18/40 – 11/21/24

e at Parts Magazine are sorry to report that the motorcycle industry lost a friend on Thursday, November 21. Blaine Birchfield was unable to recover from a stroke he suffered in early November at a health care facility in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. He was 84 years old.

to Cobra's

sent

Our publisher Don Emde shared his memories of Blaine: “I first got to know Blaine at the trade shows in 1978 when I started a job selling ads for Motorcycle Dealernews Magazine. Blaine was then a part of Goodyear Tire’s sales rep team in the days when Goodyear was one of the leading motorcycle tire manufacturers and Kenny Roberts was on his way to his first World Grand Prix Championship on a Goodyear-shod Yamaha.

As I got to know Blaine, we discovered a mutual background we had with Harley-Davidson 165s, the little two-stroke that was the big brother of the famous 125cc Harley Hummer. My first motorcycle was a Harley 165 that had been raced in the lightweight class at the Catalina Grand Prix in the 1950s. Blaine also raced a 165 out of Puckett’s Harley-Davidson in Orlando.

In 1962, he competed at Daytona on the Sportsman Day for amateur riders, and he won the Class 2 race for motorcycles up to 175cc. We often compared notes and stories about our 165s.

When I first got to know Blaine, he ran with a great group of fellow manufacturer’s sales reps, including Everett Brashear, Gary Bryson, Paul Collins, Don Graves, Gene Trobaugh, and others. After Goodyear exited the motorcycle business, Blaine went to work in the sales department at Cobra Engineering for Ken Boyko. He was hard working, traveled a lot and always did what he could do to promote Cobra’s products in the aftermarket. He was a familiar face at every major motorcycle dealer show and trade event for many years.

After living in California to be near the Cobra headquarters, Blaine semi-retired around 2013 and moved back to the Orlando area. For at least another five years he continued to represent Cobra from his base there. Around the time of the Covid pandemic, he finally retired completely and spent his remaining days among some of his lifelong friends.

Blaine Birchfield loved the motorcycle industry and everyone who worked in it. I can safely say he was a man with no enemies, everyone loved Blaine. Godspeed old friend.” ■

Josh Herrin Takes 2024 MotoAmerica Superbike Title in Style

Parts Unlimited/Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin won the second AMA Superbike Championship of his career on Saturday at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and he did so with the flair of a champion. Simply put, he won when he didn’t need to.

Herrin worked his way forward after crossing the line in fifth place on the opening lap and most expected him to stay there. After all, it would have been the easy way to wrap up the title, but it wasn’t Herrin’s way. He kept pushing – fourth on lap six, third on lap seven, second on lap nine and the lead on lap 11. Throughout he was hounded by Wrench Motorcycle’s Bobby Fong, who made a move on Herrin to take the lead for the first time on lap 15 of 20. Okay, so now Herrin would chill and take the title with a second-place finish. Or not.

Herrin re-passed a feisty Fong with two laps to go and rode to a .403 of a second victory – his sixth of the year and the 16th AMA Superbike win of his career. And, more importantly, it

resulted in his second Superbike title - 11 years after his first. The championship also ended a winless drought for Ducati that goes back 30 years to when Australian Troy Corser won the title on a Fast by Ferracci Ducati in 1994.

Fong held on for second, .190 of a second ahead of Herrin’s teammate and wingman Loris Baz, with the Frenchman earning his third podium of the season after leading seven laps of the race. ■

In the powersports industry, savvy dealers know that winter downtime is no time to kick back and rest. There’s service work to be done, and long delayed projects to be completed. Even in those areas where the weather puts riding on hold, there are storage bikes to tend to.

When your customers are ready to roll again, be prepared with the latest and greatest range of parts, accessories and apparel – all of which can be seen at the 2025 NVP Product Expo, which comes in January to the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.

Tires for a Wide Range of Conditions

AMS’ M2 Evil tire is a lightweight tire that handles great and is ideal for customers looking for a solid all-terrain radial tire with a sticky tire feel. Strong shoulder and sidewall treads offer additional protection and traction.

For over a decade, AMS has produced tires that offer performance at a price fit for any budget. From race tires for quads to mud tires for UTVs to versatile all-around tires for dirt bikes, the AMS tire line offers dealerships an easy way to stock a wide-ranging line of tires that will satisfy the needs of nearly any off-road customer. Two such tires ideal for ATV and UTV customers are the multi-use M1 Evil and M2 Evil Radial tires.

The M1 Evil is a non-directional radial tire developed using a special long-lasting compound with a truck-tire-like tread pattern for ultra-wear protection and a smooth ride. The special rubber compound also increases puncture resistance and wear protection. The M1’s rigid shoulder and sidewall treads further enhance durability while helping increase traction in sand, dirt and rocks.

With a healthy 1-inch tread depth, the M1 Evil is an ideal tire choice for two-track trails and other recreational terrain, as well as when driving on dirt or fire roads. AMS has given the M1 Evil Tire the technology needed to handle today’s most advanced and highpowered UTVs and ATVs. M1 Evil 25 inch and 26 inch sizes come with a six-ply carcass, while 27 inch through 34 inch sizes come with an eight-ply carcass.

Building on the success of the M1 Evil radial tire, AMS more recently introduced the M2 Evil radial line of UTV/ATV tires. The M2 Evil offers customers the next step up from the M1 Evil with lighter weight, increased handling, and better ride performance. This addition to the AMS line of tires is ideal for customers looking for a solid all-terrain radial tire with a sticky tire feel.

Like the M1, the M2 Evil radial tire uses a non-directional truck-tirelike tread for a smooth ride, but is up to 10 percent lighter due to a unique rubber compound and an adjustment to the tread depth. This weight difference is noticeable for both the rider and the machine, with less rotating mass often resulting in improved engine performance and suspension compliance. The tire’s long-lasting natural rubber compound produces a sticky tire feel that also extends tread life. Strong shoulder and sidewall treads add another layer of protection and traction when navigating various terrain and conditions.

With a healthy 20mm tread depth, the M2 Evil has the strength, materials, and handling characteristics needed to stand up to today’s most advanced high-horsepower, highperformance side-by-sides and ATVs. AMS M2 Evil tires come manufactured with a six-ply carcass in 25˝ and 26˝ sizes and an eight-ply carcass in 27˝ through 34˝ sizes. ■

Clutch Performance

Kevlar and Carbon Plates Handle the Heat

Having celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023, Barnett Tool & Engineering remains on the gas. The company introduced the first-ever clutch friction plates using Kevlar material in 1991, and then followed that up with the first carbon friction plates in the motorcycle/ATV industry in 2000.

Constant R&D have continually improved the products over the years, and Barnett updated both those proprietary formulations for even better performance in 2024. The

even better resistance to heat than the previous units that offer superb motorcycle/ATV clutch performance.

Heat is the enemy of clutch plates, causing some materials to glaze over and lose friction necessary for proper clutch engagement. Both the K22 and C22 friction plates have segmented channels along the disc material, which allows more oil to flow between them to promote smoother operation and extended clutch life. Barnett tempered steel drive plates undergo a vibratory deburring process and then are quality checked for flatness. And, Barnett’s heavy-duty clutch springs are pre-set, shot-peened, and heat treated for best performance and durability.

Barnett’s popular Dirt Digger clutch kits feature either of the new K22 or C22 friction plates, and include both friction and steel drive plates and heavy-duty springs. A definite upgrade from the stock OEM clutch, Dirt Digger clutches are designed to run cooler, last longer, and provide smoother, fade-free engagement to get a bike’s power to the ground.

Barnett Clutches now also has updated and current Dirt Digger clutch plate and spring applications for Beta, GASGAS and Husqvarna models. Clutch plates feature the K22 Kevlar friction material, and the tempered steel drive plates and heavy-duty clutch springs are also available.

Don’t forget that Barnett also offers billet clutch basket and pressure plates for both street and off-road applications. The clutch baskets are CNC-machined from 2024 T3 billet aluminum, while the pressure plates are machined from 6061 T6 aluminum for increased durability and life. The clutch baskets feature stainless steel inserts where the clutch plate tabs contact the basket to help prevent grooves and ensure smooth operation, with grade-8 fasteners used to attach the backing plate. ■

DRIVEN BY PASSION FOR

A MAJOR MILESTONE FOR AN ICONIC BRAND

Time flies when you’re having fun, and 2024 marks 70 years in business for LeoVince. The iconic Italian brand grew from a passion for style and performance, and that enthusiasm is still present today.

LeoVince traces its roots back to 1954 when Pietro Mollo started making exhausts for Lambretta and Vespa scooters in Turin, Italy. Originally called Sito, standing for “Silenziatori Torino,” the business thrived thanks to Mr. Mollo’s beautiful, performance-enhancing chambers.

In 1987, the company expanded to include performance exhaust systems for motorcycles and transitioned to the name “LeoVinci” in honor of the great Italian inventor and artist, Leonardo DaVinci. In a short time, the company had expanded its product range to include a variety of exhaust systems for street, off-road, and scooter applications. The company name was changed to the now-familiar “LeoVince” in 2001.

LeoVince gained global recognition for its high-quality and high-performance products, made from premium materials with excellent craftsmanship. Numerous racing teams in MotoGP, Superbike, motocross, and Enduro competitions have chosen LeoVince exhausts. Collaboration with these professional race teams, as well as a tight relationship with many major OEMs, has helped push LeoVince to develop innovative and advanced exhaust technologies.

These innovations are later applied to production models available to your customers.

One area where LeoVince excels is in the quality of construction. Premium materials are used throughout LeoVince’s products, including AISI304 stainless steel ASTM B265 grade 1 and 2 titanium for headers and midpipes. Rich, durable carbon fiber is LeoVince’s calling card, and it comes by way of 2x2 twill in tight 3K weave and wide 12K weave.

LeoVince is able to offer beautiful, high-quality exhausts at a competitive price because the company manufactures everything in house. The company has invested in all the necessary machinery to form and weld the metal structure of the exhaust, as well as mold and clear-coat all carbon components.

As a result of the global economic downturn in 2008, LeoVince struggled and eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2013. A new chapter began in 2014 when the Morone family acquired LeoVince. Under the family’s leadership, the company underwent a comprehensive reorganization and restructuring. By leveraging the company’s expertise in manufacturing and materials, LeoVince continued to innovate and offer top-quality exhaust systems.

Today, LeoVince is a globally recognized brand known for its passion and commitment to quality, performance

Anywhere You Dare Tires for Every Terrain

When Adventure and dual-sport motorcycles can be pressed into service doing so many things, it can be hard to figure out which tires will work best. Mitas Tires has been in business for many decades and offers a range of models to fit just about every application. From high-speed highway sprints to technical off-road and hard enduro, Mitas has tires for those who really want to be able to ride their bikes anywhere.

Many of your customers likely ride Adventure bikes that consume a lot of pavement miles along with their diet of dirt. That’s where the Enduro Trail+ tire fits in. Mitas designed the Enduro Trail+ for 60 percent road and 40 percent dirt with an aggressive chevron tread pattern that provides predictable on-road performance and excellent off-road capabilities.

Have a customer who’s only riding pavement to link up gravel roads and trails? The Enduro Trail-XT+ leans heavily toward off-road with a 20 percent road bias. An aggressive longitudinal scoop-shaped tread pattern ensures grip in soft, muddy terrain as well as hard, rocky environments without compromising paved-road performance, even in the wet conditions. The Enduro Trail-XT is the tire for the Adventure and dual-sport riders who want to go anywhere and aren’t afraid to tackle difficult and challenging off-road tracks.

Mitas designed the Enduro Trail+ for 60 percent road and 40 percent dirt with a tread pattern designed for predictable on-road performance and excellent off-road capabilities.

There’s also an Enduro Trail-XT rear with a slightly different tread pattern and shorter lugs that offers a little more road bias (30 percent versus the Enduro Trail-XT+’s 20 percent) without sacrificing too much off-road performance.

The Enduro Trail+, Enduro Trail-XT, and Enduro Trail XT+ are all offered in two versions to better suit today’s various machines. Mitas’s Standard construction is best for all-around performance in any weather while the Dakar version has an ultra-heavy duty compound for maximum durability and a reinforced carcass for excellent puncture resistance.

Moving to Mitas’s enduro lineup, your customers can select from a range of fine-tuned tires for extreme off-road riding. The Terra Force-EX SM and Terra Force-EX MH are designed for enduro competition and similarly challenging riding with tall and widely spaced tread knobs. The SM is intended for soft to medium terrain while the MH is designed for medium to hard terrain. For the maximum bite in the loosest terrain, riders can rely on Terra Force-EX XT with its extra-tall, widely spaced tread pattern.

Mitas refines things even further by offering the Terra ForceEX models in various carcass and compound options (Super and Super Light for the SM and XT, and Super, Super Light, and Super Soft for the MH) to really allow your customers to select the ideal tire for the type of riding they do.

Mitas is one of Europe’s leading motorcycle tire brands with decades of experience and know-how. With its own R&D facilities and in-house compound development, Mitas is able to produce tires that exceed expectations. ■

New Tech Protection

Introducing the Fleet Helmet Line

There are standards that must be met on multiple levels when it comes to motocross and off-road racewear and protective equipment. Those standards come from a professional safety organization level, a company level and a rider level. Each level carries its own list of needs and wants across various types and styles of gear, but especially so with helmets. It takes quite a bit of experience for a company to thoroughly understand each of the boxes that need to be checked, and then some, when creating a helmet for motocross and offroad riders. Thankfully, experience is something that THOR is rich in, and it shines through the innovation, design and level of quality and purpose built into the new line of Fleet helmets for adult and youth riders.

The sum of years of racing development on and off the track, Fleet helmets are a stylish build that offer just as much technical prowess as aesthetic appeal. The first thing to catch the eye is the performance-oriented shape of Fleet helmets. The side profile boasts sharp yet flowing lines that complement the natural riding position, giving way to plentiful ventilation throughout the helmet.

In fact, ventilation is one of the key purposeful aspects of the Fleet helmet design, featuring 13 total intake and exhaust vent ports. The abundance and strategic positioning of these vent ports optimize air flow to riders’ heads to keep things cool, even on those high-temperature moto days.

Housing those vents and shaping Fleet helmets’ raceinspired design is a strong and durable polycarbonate/ ABS shell designed specifically for outer layer protection. An ABS visor is also included, but this visor doesn’t attach like a traditional visor. Customers won’t find standard, screw-on points holding the visor on their new Fleet helmet. Instead, each visor is attached with a four-point snap retention system.

This innovative design allows the visors to remain secure under normal conditions but to come off during contact with the ground as to not risk catching and pulling the rider’s head. Plus, the sub-surface snaps complement the sleek and modern look of Fleet helmets.

Beneath the shell is where safety-focused technology continues to improve. This is where your customers find

THOR’s new Fleet helmet range is packed full of comfort and safety features, all of which demonstrate the brand’s commitment to innovation and quality in its motocross and off-road helmets and apparel. This is the Storm model in black and white.

a premium, dual-density EPS liner that is bolstered by a new material THOR is referring to as ERT (Energy Reduction Technology). That may sound like a lot of acronyms so let’s dive into what this translates to for riders.

This patented ERT incorporates soft, advanced polymer pads into Fleet helmet designs to help manage both rotational and linear impact energy. “Rotational impact” is a key term here, as this is something that’s become an area of focus over the years of helmet development.

In the early days of simple shells filled with foam, the idea was just to soften the blow of the helmet hitting the ground. Realistically, though, there is typically a lot more going on when a rider crashes. Moving impacts are not often just a linear strike against the ground, there are many more forces at play that helmets need to protect riders against, which is why intuitive and versatile energy absorption designs are being incorporated into helmets, just like ERT in Fleet helmets.

In a nutshell, ERT inside Fleet helmet’s liner is smart enough to absorb and mitigate impact energy coming from many different angles and motions so as little of that energy as possible is transferred to the rider’s head.

This helps Fleet helmets meet high safety standards in the United States and in Europe, including DOT and ECE R22.06. Plus, ERT material also provides a plush feel when worn, a bonus no one is likely to complain about.

With all this impact technology packed into Fleet helmets, THOR designers wanted to make sure they look as good as they perform. Riders are presented with a breadth of color and design options when shopping for their new Fleet helmet, from clean and simple solid white and black to more bold color combinations and designs that will stand out on the track.

Your customers can grab a new Fleet helmet for themselves and for their little rippers, too. A complete offering of youth Fleet helmets offers the same advanced design and ERT material. Youth riders even have a special graphics option unique to youth only, something sure to catch the eye of them and their riding buddies.

Adult Fleet helmets are available in adult sizes from XS to 2XL and youth Fleet helmets range from YS to YL. ■

King Kenny Is In

EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR MOTOAMERICA’S NEW TALENT CUP

MotoAmerica bills its new Talent Cup series as a “championship designed to prepare young North American riders who have the desire and talent to compete on the world stage of MotoGP.” Pretty heady stuff with lots of wait and see.

One man who thinks highly enough of the new class to dive straight in is three-time 500cc World Champion Kenny Roberts, who has committed to starting a team in the 2025 Parts Unlimited Talent Cup Championship. Roberts will start the team with one rider, but may grow the team to two as the series gains momentum.

But, first things first. Roberts has hired a rider who also has enough faith in the series to shelve a promising career in flat track racing. That racer is three-time American Flat Track Champion Kody Kopp, who has yet to turn a wheel on a road racer. Roberts believes in flat track racers and Kopp is the best young flat tracker in the country. It should be fun to watch. So, what exactly will Kopp and company be racing in the Parts Unlimited Talent Cup?

The 2025 MotoAmerica Talent Cup will take the place of the current Junior Cup class at MotoAmerica’s Championship rounds with riders aged 14-21 doing battle on race-ready, 350cc KTM-powered purpose-built Krämer racing motorcycles. The Krämer APX-350 MA will provide a better package for MotoAmerica’s young stars to hone their skills than the

production-class motorcycles used in the Junior Cup class since 2018.

It was the motorcycle that initially caught Roberts’ eye.

“This is the first time I can see an avenue where we can get young Americans to MotoGP,” Roberts said. “Production bike racing has never done it for me as it’s really complicated because you must be on the right bike, etc. The Talent Cup will give us the opportunity to really see the talent of the rider. I still think dirt tracking is the first step, and the Talent Cup gives us a chance to put a young dirt tracker on the equipment that’s the same as everyone else’s and that hasn’t been the case until now. This is the first step back into the world arena and I’d like to hear the American National Anthem on the rostrum before I slip off the groove.”

Having Roberts in the mix is key for the new series, says MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey.

“Obviously, having Kenny as a team owner in MotoAmerica is a win for everybody,” said Rainey. “His presence in the paddock will create interest in the Talent Cup both here and internationally. Kenny and his team are also bringing in Kody Kopp, a flat track champion, and it will be interesting to watch his development under Kenny’s guidance. Kody couldn’t ask for a better person to learn from as Kenny has truly done it all – as both a racer and a team owner.” ■

Adventure Options A

Tire for Every Type of Ride

There is a lot to love about Adventure riding, including what a broad category it is. Some riders stick to paved roads, while others ride almost exclusively off-road. Most riders, though, are somewhere in between those two options. No matter what an Adventure rider’s preference might be, Pirelli has a Scorpion tire option for them.

Pirelli’s Scorpion range of tires includes five options for Adventure riders, including the Trail II, Trail III, Rally, Rally STR and MT90.

The Pirelli Scorpion Trail II is designed with Adventure Touring and enduro street bikes in mind, so the dualcompound rear tire enhances mileage as well as grip in wet conditions. The structure of the Trail II is derived from Pirelli’s Sport-Touring tires, which means it has excellent handling even when the bike is loaded with gear.

The new Scorpion Trail III builds on the Trail II to offer Adventure riders the sportiest Scorpion yet. It features performance and handling characteristics one would expect on a sportier tire, but at the same time, riders can tackle light off-road sections of the journey with ease.

The enduro-style tread design offers outstanding stability and riding precision, while also assuring efficient water evacuation. The Scorpion Trail III is designed to have the wet grip of a sport-touring tire, including full silica compounds, giving Adventure riders the same level of confidence in all weather conditions.

Both the front and rear tires feature a multi-radius profile that enhances stability and handling. The dual-compound rear tire improves longevity on the street, while abrasionresistant design features improve durability during

off-road riding. In all, the Scorpion Trail III tire has a 95 percent on-road, 5 percent off-road setup.

Pirelli’s Scorpion Rally tire is available in two road-legal sizes for Adventure Touring, but one look at this tire, and it’s clear it is off-road ready, too. The tread pattern and structure are designed for performance both on-road and off-road, supporting high street speeds as well as resistance to punctures. In all, the Scorpion Rally provides outstanding traction on even the most demanding of surfaces.

The Scorpion Rally STR has a similar look to the Rally, and it is designed as an enduro tire for use both on and off the road. This is an ideal Adventure Touring tire for riders who want a knobby tire for off-road grip and handling, but also on-road grip and wet-weather reliability. The design and technologies packed into the tire allow it to check all the boxes.

Pirelli’s Scorpion tire lineup for Adventure riders is completed with the MT90, which is designed for trail motorcycles. This is the kind of tire that can be used for commuting during the week, then riding virtually anywhere on the weekends. The MT90’s tread has large central blocks for stability, and the compound is designed for high mileage as well as grip on both wet and dry surfaces. ■

bike build CRF450R

Tough Enough Building an Off-Road Enduro Racer

Helping a rider get their bike ready for off-road competition begins with knowing what kind of racing they’ll be doing. Moose Racing’s custom bike builds are all designed to showcase a different style of off-road riding or racing, and one of the company’s latest builds is a Honda CRF450R kitted out for GNCC racing.

Moose Racing’s Austin Weaver chose the long list of parts that turned this stock bike into something worthy of GNCC competition, while Kevin Kelly designed the graphics – after all, race bikes should look good, too.

GNCC competition is grueling, with courses snaking through wooded areas that throw all kinds of challenges at the racers. It’s a lot easier to control conditions on a racetrack, but in the woods, conditions are varied and often difficult. To make it even tougher, the endurance format of GNCC competition means riders have to stay focused for three hours.

Moose Racing has a big presence in GNCC competition. Not only are there a lot of competitors using Moose Racing parts on their bikes, but there are also plenty of national champions – on two wheels and four – who are sponsored by Moose Racing. This extensive use of Moose Racing products means GNCC racing is an ideal proving

ground for products, because they have to perform well in tough terrain for long stretches of time. It’s an ideal way to see how parts fare under the most extreme conditions.

When Austin was making the parts list for this custom CRF450R, he knew one of the biggest aspects would be parts to keep the bike well-guarded from the hazards of the trail. GNCC racers are competing against each other, yes, but they’re also going toe-to-toe against Mother Nature.

To keep the bike’s essential components out of trouble, items like a skid plate, fork guards and brake disc guards are an absolute must. The CRF has a Moose Racing Pro Skid Plate keeping watch over the frame and engine cases. Because it’s made from a flexible, high-density material, the skid plate can quite literally bounce back from impacts. That means it remains in good working order for a longer time than a more traditional aluminum skid plate. Additionally, it weighs about 40 percent less, making it an ideal choice for racers who know that every ounce makes a difference.

Moose Racing’s Carbon Fiber Fork Guards are also a lightweight addition, and they easily snap over the forks without requiring any mounting hardware. As a bonus, they look really good, too. Below the fork guards, the CRF has the Shark Fin Disc Guard. This aluminum alloy

This Honda CRF450R features Moose products like a skid plate, fork guards and brake disc guards for added protection. Controls, handlebars and seating also got the Moose upgrade.

piece is extremely durable, ensuring both the brake caliper and rotor have a layer of defense against the hazards of the trail.

Those same hazards can pose a problem for the rider, too, which is why a set of Moose Racing Contour 2 Deflector Handguards stand watch. These robust guards offer coverage that isn’t bulky, and the injection-molded polypropylene is lightweight yet durable. On the CRF, these handguards are part of a complete overhaul for the forward controls, including a Moose Racing Flex Handlebar.

The 7065-T6 aluminum handlebar doesn’t have a crossbrace, allowing some flex when going over rough terrain. This reduces the amount of shock that travels into the rider’s hands, reducing fatigue and making it a lot easier to reach the finish line in a long GNCC race.

The controls are completed with items like clutch and brake levers, a riser kit, a tough-but-light triple clamp and a set of Moose Racing’s Lock-On grips. These grips install easily in just seconds thanks to the Allen-head mounting bracket. There’s no need for glue or wires, and the grips ensure slip-free performance, lap after lap.

A set of Moose Racing’s SX-1 spoked wheels feature hubs forged from 6061-T6 aluminum paired with stainless

steel spokes that have a high tensile strength. The rim is extra-strong, too, since it undergoes a 3-stage heat treatment process to provide even more durability.

For a GNCC-style bike like this CRF build, a set of tough wheels need equally tough tires. The Honda is equipped with a set of Dunlop Geomax MX34 tires that are fortified with Moose Racing’s Heavy Duty Inner Tubes.

Remember that part about race bikes looking good? The Ribbed Seat Cover on the CRF adds a pop of style thanks to the red ribs on a black surface. This texture, as well as the rubberized material do a lot more than simply look good, though, since they improve the seat traction. Even in wet conditions, riders get the traction they need with one of these seat covers. And, thanks to double-stitched seams and UV protection, the seat is ready to face harsh elements.

In all, more than 40 parts went into customizing this CRF450R to make it worthy of GNCC racing. ■

Moose Racing dug deep into its catalog of parts and accessories to transform this Honda CRF450R into a machine built for GNCC racing.

Road Meets Track

A Hypersport Tire for Performance & Longevity

Sportbikes evolve from experience and development on the racetrack, and the same can be said for the new 3D SuperSport tire from Avon. This hypersport tire was developed on the track and the street to give performance-minded riders the perfect blend of grip, handling and stability, as well as the longevity needed for a street tire. And, while the 3D SuperSport tire is street legal, it is right at home on the track, too.

The 3D SuperSport tire achieves its aims through a blend of design features, compounds and tread patterns. It is manufactured at Goodyear’s motorcycle center of excellence facility in Montlucon, France. Design, production and testing are all done in-house, allowing Avon to maintain the high-quality standards riders expect from the brand.

Avon’s Silica Dual Compound technology allows the 3D SuperSport tire to provide maximum grip without compromising longevity. The healthy dose of silica aids in chemical grip, which is especially beneficial on cold or wet days, or when just starting out on a ride with tires that aren’t yet up to temperature. The more durable compound in the middle of the rear tire results in good mileage, while the softer compound on the edges ensures grip going through the corners.

The pattern of the 3D SuperSport tire is also designed for maximum performance, with an increased footprint to

enhance contact with the road. This is a new design from Avon, featuring a smaller tread pattern that improves the size of the contact patch.

The 3D SuperSport tire is primarily for street riding, but by developing it on the track, the team at Avon was able to optimize the handling and stability. Anyone who wants to see just how good the handling and stability is for the 3D SuperSport tire can look to professional stunt rider Rok Bagoroš. The 3D SuperSport tire is one of his go-to choices for performing, and there are plenty of videos online showing off what both Rok and the tire are capable of.

Another aspect the 3D SuperSport tire features is outstanding feedback. While that is vital for a stunt rider like Rok, it’s also important on the street. That consistent, clear feedback is a necessary trait in a performance hypersport tire.

Avon offers the 3D SuperSport tire in six sizes, including one front and five rear options. That range covers most sportbikes and superbikes. ■

2024 PARTS UNLIMITED DEALER RIDE: THE UP300

OCTOBER 6-9 – MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN

September 2013 was the last time the Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride gathered in Marquette, Michigan for the legendary UP300. In the 11 years since, dealers, vendors, reps – just about everyone – has had the same question: When are we going back?

That question was answered in early October when a massive contingent of Parts Unlimited dealers, vendors and reps (some of the same ones from way back when!) made a triumphant return to Michigan’s rugged and picturesque Upper Peninsula for the 2024 UP300.

Once again with the assistance of the local UP Sandstormers Motorcycle and ORV Club of Marquette, enthusiasts on dirtbikes, UTVs, street bikes and E-Bikes gathered for two days of riding the region’s massive trail system. The Sandstormers

spent countless hours building and maintaining the area’s trails and have always been an integral part of the UP300. Many thanks for their assistance.

Like all Parts Unlimited Dealer Rides, the UP300 is an invitation-only ride open to Parts dealers who qualify through the company’s specific sales programs. For the 2024 ride and the return of the UP300, the ride attracted nearly 160 dealers, reps and vendors – a massive turnout!

Following a time-tested, three-day format, the whole event kicked off the first day with the popular Vendor Row at the Marquette County Fairgrounds. Here sponsoring vendors set up booths to give dealers a chance to check out the latest hot products, talk with product specialists and get their hands on coveted free swag. The day concluded with

a welcome reception and dinner, offering the participating dealers, reps and vendors a chance to meet one another and catch up on old friendships.

As always, the Parts Dealer Rides are a chance for all involved to take a slight step back from everyday business and enjoy the very thing that got most working in the business to begin with – riding. Spread out across the trails of Marquette, all participants had two days of riding to take in the beauty of the Upper Peninsula, crossing through natural rock formations, scenic vistas and dense forests. The two days featured massive groups rides of UTVs, challenging trails for the moto riders and a dedicated trail system for multiple demo E-Bikes.

Of course, no Parts Unlimited Annual Dealer Ride would be complete without the now- famous farewell banquet.

The dinner served as the chance for dealers, vendors, reps and staff to share stories from the weekend, bench race and rehash their favorite parts of the ride. For sure there were a few tales likely to become lore at future dealer rides. There’s also an award ceremony with some lighthearted honors like the Gumby and the Pokey awards, but there’s also a more serious one, and that’s the Dealer of the Year award. This year’s winner was Bill Kaszer, the owner of Motorcycle Supply in Manhattan, Kansas. (See our profile on Bill and his dealership in Parts Magazine Issue #4 2024).

It was not yet revealed where the 2025 Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride will be held, but be sure to start planning now if you want to attend! Talk with your sales rep for more details.

Dual-Purpose Footwear A Riding

Boot Designed for Work

For years, ICON has designed motorcycle boots that double as fashion statements. These boots have always been popular since they were made to look at home both on the bike and off of it, all while offering the durability and armor one expects in a motorcycle boot. Now, with the brand-new SuperDuty6 Safety Toe Boot, ICON has a boot that is also right at home at work.

The SuperDuty6 is both a work boot and a motorcycle boot because it features an ASTM composite safety toe, which has been tested and certified according to ASTM F2413-18. What that means is that riders who are required to wear safety-toe footwear at work can now ride to work, then start their day without having to change into a different pair of boots.

At the same time, that sturdy safety toe adds an extra layer of defense while on the bike, too. Plus, the D3O ankle insert bolsters reinforcement in the ankle area without adding bulk or weight.

The upper of the SuperDuty6 boot is a combination of leather with nylon inserts for that perfect blend of durability, flexibility and good looks. The upper has been

paired with an oil-resistant, slip-resistant outsole, which is yet another point in favor of using the SuperDuty6 boots as work footwear.

Wearing these boots all day, both on the bike and on the job, means they have to be comfortable, too. The midfoot strap is adjustable for a custom fit, and inside, there’s a hi-rebound EVA foam insole to provide ample cushioning.

ICON introduced the SuperDuty6 boot at the Milwaukee NVP, where dealers had the chance to inspect the quality and durability of these new boots in person. Plenty of riders have faced the dilemma of needing one pair of boots for riding to work, and another pair for actually doing the work. Dealers were enthusiastic to see that, now, they can offer customers a boot that does both of those things.

The SuperDuty6 boot has the same design cues as the SuperDuty boots that have come before it, which means riders can wear them when off the bike as a casual shoe, too. The SuperDuty6 Safety Toe Boot is available in brown or black, and it comes in sizes 7-14. ■

ICON’s new SuperDuty6 serves as a riding boot as well as a work boot, thanks to the ASTM composite safety toe. It also features D3O ankle protection and is built for all-day comfort.

Comfort and Visibility

New Accessories for Off-Road Vehicles

Among the latest products from Moose Utility Division are ones that provide more comfort and improved visibility. Both the amber LED light collection and ATV backrest are easy ways to get an off-road vehicle ready for everything from work to recreation.

Moose Utility Division’s amber series LED light bars come in three different lengths, including 8 inches, 12 inches and 32 inches. There is also a 3-inch cube available. No matter which size or shape a rider chooses, they will have plenty of light.

This super-bright amber LED light is ideal for hunting and fishing, providing a lot of illumination at just the right color to be easy on the eyes. Either a spot or flood beam can be selected for more versatility. The polycarbonate lens has a 50X magnification to set off the LED lights even more, and it resists scratches and impacts, too.

ATVs and UTVs are designed to withstand all kinds of weather and riding conditions, and any accessory for a vehicle has to be able to do the same. These amber light bars are rated IP67 Waterproof, so they’re easily up to the task. The extruded aluminum housing has a militarystyle breather for moisture control, so they keep running as designed, no matter how wet or muddy things get.

Each amber series LED light bar comes in a complete kit that includes the mounting brackets, stainless steel hardware, wiring harness and other necessary accessories. The kit also includes an illuminated rocker switch that mounts in the dash.

Whether a rider takes an ATV out for work or for play, comfort is an important part of the equation. The ATV backrest from Moose Utility Division is designed to be both comfortable as well as extremely durable.

In the comfort department, the ATV backrest has a 2-inch-thick cushion, and the whole thing can be adjusted to one of three reclining positions. Durability comes from the wear-resistant polyester cover and tube steel frame, which is powder coated for an extra layer of defense against the elements.

The ATV backrest simply attaches to a cargo rack, including metal and composite versions, and when not in use, it easily folds flat. That way, a rider can have a full range of movement while on the go, then raise the seat and settle in during a break. ■

Racing to the Future Updates for a High-Tech Street Helmet

TSuper Hooligan and King of the Baggers champion and Indian Motorcycle rider Tyler O’Hara counts on 6D’s ATS-1R for comfort and protection while out on the track.

1R has been updated to provide more features than ever, including reduced weight and improved aerodynamics. The 3K carbon fiber shell helps with keeping that weight down, while the aerodynamic wing was CAD-designed to reduce drag, buffeting and lift at higher speeds.

The robust ventilation system includes four adjustable intake vents and 5 exhaust ports to efficiently keep air flowing throughout the multi-density EPS liner. The cheek pads have an updated design for even more comfort, and they will accommodate most eyewear easily. At the same time, the cheek pads also ensure easy removal in the case of an emergency. Recessed speaker pockets allow the helmet to be fitted with a communication system, too.

Other updates to the ATS-1R include an improved seal between the shell and the shield and a larger shell opening to make getting the helmet off and on easier.

The ATS-1R comes in sizes XS to XXL, and there are two graphic designs in various colorways as well as a gloss black option. ■

echnology was on display during this year’s roadracing season, and it wasn’t just on the motorcycles. The high-tech ATS-1R helmet from 6D was the choice of some of the top competitors, like Kyle Wyman and Tyler O’Hara.

The ATS-1R street helmet is a way for roadracers, street riders and even dirt-track competitors to gear up with cutting-edge technology for mitigating impact forces. The helmet is equipped with 6D’s groundbreaking OmniDirectional Suspension (ODS) technology.

The patented ODS is best understood by starting with a look at how the name 6D came about in the first place. Since movement happens in a 3-dimensional space across the X, Y and Z axes, engineers refer to that movement as “6 Degrees of Freedom,” or “6DoF.” That range of movement is at the core of 6D’s design philosophy, which takes the 3-dimensional approach with its ODS technology.

The short explanation of how ODS works is that it enhances a helmet’s ability to respond dynamically to impacts. Perhaps an even simpler way of looking at it is to think of ODS as suspension for a rider’s head. In the event of an impact, ODS reduces energy transfer to the brain, from low-velocity impacts all the way up to high-velocity impacts.

In addition to wearing the ATS-1R in the 2024 King of the Baggers series, Wyman is also one of the professional racers who helped develop 6D’s racing-focused helmet. The ATS-

Direct Current Electrical Upgrades Made Simple

BEFORE AFTER

Classic eras of off-road riding produced countless models of dirtbikes, ATVs and even three-wheelers that are still sought after and popular among nostalgic riders, restoration builders and many more. However, many of these earlier machines are equipped with older technology that can make it tough to complete modern upgrades, especially with electrical systems.

The team members at Rick’s Motorsport Electrics are diehard enthusiasts who love to see classic models stay alive, which is why they offer a plethora of electrical system components to help check off otherwise hard to find parts for their projects. However, the most recent release from Rick’s isn’t just a replacement part, it’s a gamechanging power conversion unit and it’s called the EZDC1.

Simply put, the EZDC1 converts AC power to DC power to have 12 volts available to operate things like modern LED lights, much like what powers lights in modern bikes with battery equipped systems. Many older models such as Kawasaki KDXs, Suzuki RMXs, Honda three-wheelers, Yamaha Blasters and Banshees and others have AC-powered lights from the factory. These antiquated AC systems typically only produce weak, 6-volt current and cannot handle the output required for modern electrical accessories like LED lights.

Before the EZDC1, upgrading an AC electrical system to produce 12-volt DC power was both expensive and time consuming. The parts and labor involved with this process can add up quickly.

It’s like a night and day difference. With the EZDC1 from Rick’s Motorsport Electrics, your customers can upgrade the lighting on their older machines to LED lighting for superior visibility.

Thankfully, Rick’s developed the EZDC1 to simplify this process. This unit allows customers to run DC electrical components off the OE-grounded stator without additional modifications or adding a battery. That’s right, a battery is not required. Simply connect the AC input line from the stator to the yellow wire of the EZDC1, connect the red wire to positive lead of the new light or electrical accessory, and ground the black wire to the vehicle and now you have a DC power supply capable of up to 5 AMPs draw at 12 volts.

The EZDC1 from Rick’s might be a small part, but it packs a big punch. The EZDC1 converts AC power to DC power to have 12 volts available to run modern electrical accessories like LED lighting.

LED lights may be the most common upgrade the EZDC1 is designed for, but it will work with virtually any part that requires 12-volt DC power. EZDC1 units are supplied with detailed instructions to make the straightforward installation crystal clear.

Whatever the classic project is, Rick’s is committed to making their build simple and effective with the new EZDC1. ■

Proper Care Hi-Tech Shine and Chain Care

When a company has been producing lubrication products for well over 150 years, you can be sure there’s a wealth of knowledge and expertise behind that brand. Founded in 1853, Motul has been at the forefront of synthetic lubrication and service product development, using championship racing as its proving ground with involvement in MotoGP, Dakar rally and 24 Hours of Le Mans among others. Savvy motorcycle techs know to reach for Motul when they need maximum quality performance.

A great example is Motul’s Shine & Go plastic polish/ reviver. This silicone-based spray product is perfect for enhancing the shine and color of plastic components such as fairings, dashboards, mirror housings, fenders, mudguards and various engine covers. It leaves a long-lasting, non-sticky protective film that makes washing off grime and bugs easier. It’s even recommended for reviving faded plastics that have been steam and/or high-pressure washed.

Motul also has numerous products to properly care for a bike’s drive chain, starting with Chain Clean. Removing all the encrusted deposits of dirt, sand, grease, and grime is a breeze with Chain Clean’s non-chlorine extreme grease-dissolving formula, and it’s suited for all O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring chains in both on-road and off-road chains. Chain Clean’s formula also evaporates very quickly, meaning less mess and quicker time to apply chain lube.

When it comes to chain lubrication, Motul has numerous options. For extreme roadracing and endurance racing applications, Motul’s Chain Lube Factory Line is specially developed to adhere to the chain even at high speeds. Employing a Boron-based formula that reduces rolling resistance and maintains its lubrication properties under high pressure, Factory Line also uses a solvent to eliminate old residue and penetrate into the links. Factory Line is compatible with all O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring chains.

For high-performance street and off-road applications, Motul offers both Chain Lube Road and Chain Lube OffRoad. Chain Lube Road is a colorless lubricant that is water and salt-resistant to protect against corrosion, with a very strong tack that adheres to chains at the high speeds that street motorcycles are capable of.

Chain Lube Off-Road uses a creamy, non-sticky, yellowcolored formula that allows it to disperse contaminants that can cause wear. It also protects the chain from

PFresh, Affordable and Reliable New Tires for Pre-Owned Bikes

re-owned inventory serves as a dependable source of profit and can attract customers for dealers, playing a crucial role for many independent shops across the country. When getting a trade-in ready for resale, it’s essential to keep labor costs low while selecting high-quality replacement parts. However, investing in a new set of performance tires can significantly cut into profit margins. So, how can dealers bridge the gap between maintaining profitability and quality?

Ohio-based American Kenda recognizes that dealers rely on enhancing the potential of pre-owned vehicles on their showroom floors, and managing the costs associated with preparing wholesale and trade-in units for display is crucial. When dealers acquire pre-owned bikes, they often require replacement parts, with tires being one of the most significant expenses to ensure the vehicles are showroom ready. In fact, if there were one thing customers would expect to be replaced on a used motorcycle, it’s the tires in almost every situation.

By opting for the Kenda KM1 tires on pre-owned sport-touring models, dealers can boost their margins while providing customers with a high-quality tire that delivers exceptional performance and longevity. This is the definition of a win-win situation; the customer gets a fresh set of reliable tires, and the dealer supports its goals.

How does the Kenda KM1 accomplish this? Its optimized apex geometry ensures excellent high-speed stability while providing reliable cornering control. Plus, Kenda used its decades of experience to create a proprietary compound blend that delivers long-lasting tread life.

The answer comes from the tire veterans at Kenda. The KM001 KM1 marks Kenda’s inaugural entry into the street radial tire market. This new tire option was designed to check all the boxes for dealers, offering an exceptional mix of performance, durability and affordability. An Airbag-Equipped Vest

Take a look at the Tech-Air 3 Canvas and Leather vests from Alpinestars, and they simply look like a stylish piece of riding gear. The Tech-Air 3, including the Canvas and Leather versions, is the first piece in the company’s family of Tech-Air systems that is designed so it can be worn as an outer garment. So, under those good looks is an airbag protection system.

The Tech-Air 3 Canvas and Leather vests will easily fit over a riding jacket, and that extra layer of defense is a significant upgrade in guarding a rider in the event of an impact. It is actually designed to protect a rider’s upper body before the impact happens, thanks to the technology tucked inside that knows when an impact is imminent.

Alpinestars’ Tech-Air 3 vests are stylish riding gear that houses the company’s revolutionary airbag protection system. Worn over a riding jacket, the Tech-Air 3 is designed to protect a rider’s upper body before an impact happens.

The Tech-Air 3 is available with a leather or canvas chassis enhanced by stretch paneling in key areas. When the vest is completely zipped up, it activates the Tech-Air 3 system via an internal magnetic sensor.

Like the other Tech-Air pieces from Alpinestars, the TechAir 3 relies on a series of tri-axial sensors built into the vest itself. The three accelerometers and three gyroscopes communicate with an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) housed in the upper back of the vest, with data inputs transmitted and analyzed 1,000 times every second. That way, when the data shows that a crash is in progress, an Argon canister deploys the airbag bladder.

That deployment happens at a lightning-fast speed, fully inflating the airbag in only 25-50 milliseconds depending on the size of the airbag. Just how fast is that? You can’t even blink that quickly. The deployment is virtually instantaneous.

To make the Tech-Air 3 Canvas and Leather vests even more attractive, all of this occurs without any need to involve the motorcycle itself. There are no tethers connecting the rider to the bike. A rider can just put on the vest, and it’s ready to go to work.

The rider’s chest and back are covered by the airbag, and data from testing shows the amount of impact force transferred to the body in a crash is reduced by up to 95 percent with the Tech-Air 3.

After deployment, the airbag remains fully inflated for more than five seconds, providing that cushioning ef fect for more than the length of an average crash. After that, the Argon canister can be replaced, so the Tech-Air 3 is ready for use once again.

The Tech-Air 3 vest is powered by a lithium-ion battery that provides 40 hours of active riding time and a recharge time of just 4 hours. The high-tech features also include Bluetooth connectivity, so the Tech-Air 3 can be paired with the Alpinestars Tech-Air app, which updates system firmware and shows battery life as well as other data. ■

Defy Darkness Illuminate Nighttime Adventures

Vision X entered the market in 1997 to help revolutionize off-road lighting. With years of experience making Halogen and HID lights, the company turned its focus and expertise to producing innovative LED lighting solutions to elevate nighttime driving.

The company set the bar high from the beginning when introducing its first forward-facing off-road LED light bar. Now available to Parts Unlimited dealers, the Vision X line of lighting products is a high-quality option for dealers wanting an adaptable LED lighting source for their offroad customers.

The Dual Action Shocker 12-inch Light Bar is the latest exciting product from Vision X. Dual Action allows users to adjust their lighting preferences to changing nighttime driving conditions with the flip of a switch.

Users can choose between a 190-degree amber fog/dust beam that utilizes untraditional Photon Light Core Technology that highlights long distances, roadway/trail edges, or when long-distance daylight is required. The Shocker Multi Surface Reflector can light the way for a long-distance driving beam pattern. The Patented Shocker Dual Action LED bars are only available from Vision X. The 12-inch Amber/ White LED bar comes complete with three position switch and an easy-to-install plug-and-play harness.

Likewise, Vision X’s XPL Ultra Slim LED Light Bar line is another versatile lighting solution available in 9-inch to 40-inch sizes. The XPL light bars use a smaller, low-profile

housing that is ideal for installations with minimal space. When users experience low visibility conditions or inclement weather, a selective yellow lens tint option helps improve visibility and distances by casting light through dust, fog, rain or snow.

XPL light bars also feature Vision X’s back-lit halo function, which users can wire to any 12v accessory power source or ignition power trigger wire. The functionality adds a hint of style or can be used as a parking light. Each XLP light bar has dual-mounting options, including standard end cap mounts for full-width installations.

The other option is Vision X’s patented adjustable feet mounts. These are installed in reliefs under the extrusions, allowing one to slide the feet to match pre-existing tabs or holes. Each XPL Series light bar includes a plug-andplay harness, relay, and lighted flush rocker switch.

Vision X designed its Rock Light Kits for off-roaders, overlanders, racers and weekend warriors to illuminate darkness better and provide greater ground visibility at night. With ultra-bright 5W LEDs, these rock lights crank out 840 lumens of light per pod. IP68/69k-rated weatherproof housings withstand the rugged trail and weather conditions inherent in off-road environments. Vision X Rock Light Kits are sold in pairs and include tubular and flat rubber mounts for virtually limitless mounting options. ■

“No Dancing Monkeys” Packs Designed to Stay Put

Getting an enthusiastic welcome is always nice, and that’s exactly what

USWE got at the Milwaukee NVP. As a new vendor with Parts Unlimited, the company’s range of hydration packs and other bags were met by excitement from dealers who stopped by to check out all the options.

The founders of USWE (pronounced “youswii”) grew up riding and always looking for a better way of hauling around gear, water and other necessities. The team referred to traditional backpacks as “dancing monkeys” because of the way they would move around while riding.

Soon, the founders of USWE realized that when you can’t get what you want, you just have to make it yourself. Packs for riding need to be sturdy and comfortable, but they also need to stay put. USWE packs feature an award-winning four-point suspension design, which prevents packs from bouncing around while riding. The company refers to this as NDM technology, which stands for “No Danc ing Monkey,” because if you’re going to invent something, you may as well have fun with it.

The NDM harness allows each pack to fit tight against the rider’s back without constricting movement or breathing. The resulting pack stays exactly where it’s supposed to, even when riding across especially rough terrain.

The MOTO HYDRO pack from USWE is designed to fit snuggly and stay put, even while riding in rough terrain. Available in four sizes, each one offers great storage options and a hydration bladder.

USWE’s popular MOTO HYDRO hydration packs are built for enduro and off-road racing. These packs are available in two different styles, including Race Fit and Adventure Fit. The Race Fit is a standard fit for off-road riding, and it is best when paired with lightweight off-road apparel, like a jersey. The Adventure Fit, on the other hand, is made to fit easily over the bulkier gear typically worn during dualsport and Adventure riding.

Both fits for the MOTO HYDRO packs are available in sizes of 3, 4, 8 and 12 liters, so riders can choose the right amount of storage for their needs. In addition to the NDM harness, the packs have an ergonomic design for even more comfort and ease of movement. An exterior pocket with built-in organization slots is a convenient spot for storing a cell phone, snacks or other small items that need to be in easy reach.

Each MOTO HYDRO pack is equipped with a 2-liter or 3-liter hydration bladder depending on pack size. The bladder has a slider opening that makes it easy to clean and dry, but it also enables ice to be added for those hot days. Clips keep the drink tube in place, and the positioning can be adjusted to ensure easy access while riding. USWE also offers a helmet handsfree kit for even more convenient hydration while on the go.

In addition to the MOTO HYDRO line of hydration packs, USWE also offers full-size packs, trolley bags, a camera harness, hydration waist packs and more. ■

Touring Performance

Robust Batteries for More Power

Touring bikes are great for long miles in the saddle, but they come with their own set of needs, one being a robust, powerful battery.

BS Battery has a great solution in the new BGZ Series batteries, which are a great choice for touring as well as for everyday two-wheeler riding.

The new BGZ Series is part of BS Battery’s SLA Max range. The BGZ series offers the most powerful models in the SLA Max range. In fact, BS Battery reports they have starting power and capacity that is up to 20 percent higher than its standard SLA range, up to 500 A CCA for the BGZ32HL. Each battery arrives factory activated and ready to use, and are maintenance-free and non-spillable.

The AGM batteries include built-in copper nuts on the terminals, which enhances connectivity up to 50 percent more than a standard terminal, and can improve torque. Taller plates give bikes even more starting power, and the batteries feature improved built-in vibration resistant construction. This new design and materials used provide the power your customers need, even with bikes loaded with electronic accessories.

BS Battery has also developed the new LITHIUM MAX to meet the latest standards of modern vehicles. They feature high starting power (CCA up to 900A), high capacity (up to two times standard Lithium range) and are 70 percent lighter than lead acid. The ready-to-use batteries feature larger pouch cells and robust pure brass terminals.

Both of these ranges deliver maximum performance for large-engine bikes such as the Indian Roadmaster. ■

Holding Steady A

Smartphone Mount for Reducing Vibration

Many of us don’t know how we ever got along without a smartphone, but at the same time, those high-tech devices can be a bit sensitive. When riding, it’s important to keep a smartphone guarded not just from the elements, but from vibrations, too. SP Connect’s Charging Anti-Vibration Module can reduce up to 60 percent of vibrations while providing a simple way to view the screen, and even charge the battery.

The Charging Anti-Vibration Module, available in chrome and black, works with SP Connect phone cases to securely mount a phone while reducing road vibrations thanks to a special elastomer inlay. The module is CNC-machined from aircraftgrade aluminum, and SP Connect’s patented Twist-to-Lock mechanism means the phone stays securely in place on the bike.

In addition to reducing vibrations that might harm a smartphone’s sensitive components, the module also acts as a wireless charger when paired with a 12V hardwire cable, available separately. The weatherproof cable connects to the motorcycle’s battery for convenient charging.

Once mounted, the phone can be set to portrait or landscape orientation, giving the rider ultimate flexibility.

SP Connect’s extensive list of available phone cases now includes SPC+ cases for the new iPhone 16 and Pixel 9 models. Each SPC+ case is slim but highly durable, and a magnetic attachment allows easy connection to any SP Connect mount. ■

New, Robust Battery Charger

According to TecMate, for more than 20 years motorcycle OEMs have trusted and recommended the OptiMate3 battery saving charger to recover neglected sulphated 12V lead-acid (flooded, AGM, GEL) batteries and then maintain them 24/7.

And, for 10 years, OEMs have looked to the OptiMate Lithium 4s 0.8A to recover neglected lithium LFP 12.8V / 13.2V batteries and maintain them 24/7. That charger can also reset the battery management system (BMS) of a battery that has built-in deep discharge protection that turns the battery off before it loses all charge.

Now, the new OptiMate4 Quad Program is a combination of the OptiMate 3 and OptiMate Lithium 4s0.8A and can charge any powersport battery whether it’s Pb (flooded, VRLA, AGM, GEL) or LFP (Lithium / LiFePO4).

It features two programs for charging directly to the battery and can recover a dead-flat battery from as low as 0.5 Volts, and then charge, test and maintain it 24/7. It can also reset the BMS of a smart lithium LFP battery.

The additional two programs are CAN-bus friendly and ideal to charge and maintain the battery in a BMW motorcycle through the 12V DIN socket. It connects to the DIN socket and automatically activates charging and around-the-clock maintenance.

Two models are on offer – Standard and Premium. Both models include a handlebar hanging hook, battery clips and a fused battery harness with ¼ inch rings. The Premium include the SAE-to-DIN adapter for BMW and Triumph motorcycles. ■

Titanium Rear Brake Caliper Pistons Brake Smarter – Not Harder

When motocross or trail riding, riders often abuse the rear brake by dragging the pedal on purpose or by accident. Add harsh conditions like mud, sand, water, dust, and other track and trail debris, and it’s easy to see how dirtbike rear brakes can quickly overheat, fade, and squeak annoyingly. DP Brakes has released a new line of titanium rear brake caliper pistons for dirt bikes to address this common issue.

Each DP titanium rear brake caliper piston is castellated (grooved), drilled for ventilation, and chamfered to reduce the contact area with hot brake pads. Internal radial cooling fins increase the piston’s surface area to maximize heat transfer and keep the brake fluid cooler.

A radiused cavity increases the surface area and helps direct fluid behind the piston. Lastly, each titanium piston is diamond burnished and Nitron MC black carbon coated for a super-smooth, low-friction surface.

DP Brakes’ titanium rear brake caliper pistons are a great upgrade for dirtbike customers, and come in easyto-merchandize packaging.

DP Brakes titanium rear brake caliper pistons reduce brake fade, lower operating temperatures, and reduce brake pad wear by as much as 75 percent. DP also simplifies dealer inventory with only three part numbers fitting most Japanese and European dirt bikes. ■

Tidy Tail Section Plate Holder Upgrade for Honda Cruisers

Right off the showroom floor, Honda built its Fury, Sabre and Stateline models as production bikes with a decidedly custom flair. However, when it comes to many of your customers who own these bikes, that “factory custom” look can always use a little improvement.

That’s where Accutronix’s side-mount license plate kits are meant to shine. The kit is designed to clean up the back of Honda’s Fury and Sabre, adding a nice touch to the former’s chopper styling and the latter’s Pro Street stance.

The side-mount license plate kit deletes the OE plate holder and mounts to the left side of either bike’s swingarm, and is secured with the axle pinch bolt. The kit can be configured so that the license plate will sit horizontal or vertical, offering a clean sanitary look to the rear of these slick metric cruisers.

The kits are ruggedly built and machined from 6061 T-6 billet aluminum, and are available in chrome plated or black anodized finishes to match any look. All instructions and required mounting hardware are included so it’s a
