The Man Behind Motion Pro

ABOVE: Chris Carter on the 2014 Cannon Ball Centennial Ride.

LEFT: On his way to a Six Days Gold Medal.

BELOW: Prepping his Maico motocross bike back in the day.

One of our feature stories in this issue is a tribute to Motion Pro, the well-known maker of motorcycle tools and cables, who this year is celebrating 40 years in business. Our congratulations go out to their founder, Chris Carter, a longtime friend, customer, industry supporter and legend of the sport.

Chris is one of the few people I know who has worked at every level of the motorcycle accessory marketing chain. I first met him in 1975 when I went to work at a dealership in Redwood City, California where Chris had just left to take a job at the Rocky Cycle distributing company. The new owner of the dealership was a friend of mine from my racing years and he offered me the job Chris had previously had there.

My wife Tracy and I moved to the Bay area from San Diego, so I didn’t know where people went to ride motorcycles up there. After meeting Chris, he told me about some of the great motorcycle trail riding there was in the woods west of Redwood City. Before long, he and I were riding there after work, where I had a first-hand look at what a great motorcycle rider he was (and still is). By then, he was a Yamaha factory off-road rider, and the very next year he would go on to win a Gold medal at the International Six Days Trial in Austria.

In 1984, Chris had an opportunity to acquire a line of motorcycle cables, and he left Rocky Cycle to start his Motion Pro business. I had also moved on to other areas of the motorcycle industry and in 1993 when I launched Parts Magazine, Chris immediately offered his support as an advertiser which continues to this day.

In the years to follow, Chris and his team at Motion Pro have built a great business, especially with the many handy tools that were designed based on his years of experience of working on motorcycles out on the trails.

Happy 40th anniversary to Chris Carter and everyone at Motion Pro! ■

NEWS EVENTS AND Tom Vialle 250cc Supercross East Champion

A CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON

THOR/KTM’s Tom Vialle is the 2024 250cc Supercross East Champion. Vialle came to the USA from France in 2023 because he wanted to learn the sport of Supercross after winning two MX2 Motocross World Championships. It was a learning year as he struggled a bit as a rookie Supercross racer, learning bike set-up and different tracks, but Vialle learned fast.

For the 2024 Supercross season Vialle showed up healthy and strong after training in the off season with defending 450cc Supercross Champion Chase Sexton. His hopes of being a title contender were almost crushed after a poor finish at Detroit where he was caught up in a massive first turn pile-up.

Vialle came back in the next round and scored a third-place finish. Next, he garnered his first American Supercross

victory on the big track Daytona. He followed that up with another victory at Birmingham, and then a second place at Indianapolis. In all, he garnered five podiums and two wins in the seven races of the 250cc Supercross East season to win the championship. It is an amazing accomplishment for only his second season of Supercross.

“When I was racing the MX2 World Championships, I was watching the Supercross on my laptop every night and I kept

thinking I want to do that!” said Vialle at a press conference. “We’re only two years later and I already won the title. So, it’s pretty amazing, to be honest. I have been watching Supercross my whole life since I’m a kid. And to actually have won the title in the second year is pretty amazing. I don’t know if I would have expected to win that, that early, but that was really my goal.”

Now Vialle is looking forward to the 250cc Motocross National Championship Series where he also put in a learning season last year and scored a moto victory. He will carry the momentum of the 250cc Supercross East Championship into the Motocross Nationals as well as his knowledge of the American racetracks he learned last season. That, and his two MX2 World Motocross Championships make Vialle a leading 250cc Motocross National Championship title contender.

Let us not forget the 250cc SuperMotocross World Championship. Vialle is already seeded into the playoffs thanks to his 250cc Supercross East Championship, and two Supercross victories. ■

Summer Sizzle Begins

MOOSE RACING RIDERS HEAT UP THE OFF-ROAD SCENE

If you were looking for rising stars in the off-road scene, check out the Moose Racing-backed athletes coming into their own as the 2024 off-road racing season reaches its halfway point.

Riders from coast to coast are hammering their way through mud, dust, rocks, woods and deserts en route to another landmark year in America’s most competitive national championships: the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS), National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) Series, West Hare Scrambles, U.S. Sprint Enduro (USSE) and National Enduro Series.

In the East, the FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers riders Grant Davis and Angus Riordan continue to lead the way in the highly competitive GNCC XC2 Pro 250 class. The teammates have swapped wins nearly all season. While Davis maintains the stronghold on the points lead, Riordan remains on his rear fender.

Liam Draper of the AmPro Yamaha squad is another pro-class rookie lighting the way. Draper commented he was “finally getting used to the 450,” after claiming seven of eight test wins on Saturday at the Olde Mill Farm USSE. Draper added another two wins to his total on Sunday for second overall.

Out West, Mason Semmens of the FMF RPM KTM team is locked in battle for the Pro II class championship in NGPC. The

It’s been a strong season for GNCC XC2 Pro 250 class rider and Moose Racing athlete Grant Davis. The FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers rider currently leads the points and has won three, and podiumed the rest of the first seven rounds of the 2024 GNCC season.

young Aussie finished first in Pala, California, regaining the points lead. In the WORCS Pro2 class, Semmens continues to dominate after claiming four wins in a row, and is looking to continue his momentum in the West after the summer break.

The West Hare Scrambles championship is yet another series with a rising Pro 250 division starring Moose Racing talent. Jaden Dahners of the FMF RPM KTM team enjoyed the muddy Oregon round to claim the win.

On the women’s front, Brandy Richards of the Landers KTM squad is fighting for WXC supremacy in the GNCC Series, and is currently at second in the points with two wins and two podiums thus far this season. Meanwhile, Richards is continuing to utterly dominate the Pro Women’s class in USSE.

In the West, Moose Racing athlete Kaitlyn Jacobs is keeping it alive in the NGPC and WORCS Women Pro divisions, bringing her FMF RPM KTM to the podium on just about every outing.

Moose Racing’s Rachel Gutish of the Over and Out/ FactoryONE Sherco team is also racking up podiums in the Women’s Pro ranks, even overseas. Gutish traveled to Portugal to compete in the EnduroGP World Championship before coming straight home to compete in the Olde Mill Farm USSE, finishing on the podium both times. ■

» As the summer breaks arrive for off-road racing in the U.S., the action is still heating up with plenty more still to play for in all championships.

Following through on a commitment to produce professional quality tires for the automotive and motorcycling worlds of performance is not something that happens overnight, or even in a decade. Founded over 150 years ago in Milan, Italy, Pirelli is a name that many can easily recognize by its iconic logo emblazoned on the sidewall of its tires; and by its rich history of propelling two-wheel racers to championships.

Throughout these many years, Pirelli has excelled in nextgeneration technology, high-end production excellence and a passion for innovation that draws heavily on its Italian roots. Racing has undoubtedly been both a foundation and a path to conquering the next challenge for Pirelli, and it’s evident in race-inspired tire models that come out of the Pirelli factory.

Summed up by its motto, “We sell what we race, and we race what we sell,” Pirelli’s commitment to competition sees them active in over 350 car and motorcycle sporting championships. Among these are the FIM Superbike World Championship and Moto2 and Moto3 classes of Motorcycle Grand Prix racing, all world-class racing outfits.

In fact, Pirelli is now the spec tire for Moto2 and Moto3, a development that has proven successful for racers seeing them regularly break lap time records and even have one full race turn out a 30-second faster pace than last year. This experience has led to some of Pirelli’s most innovative motorcycle tire products, such as the Diablo Rosso IV Corsa and the Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4.

In a nutshell, the Diablo Rosso IV Corsa is the fiercer version of the proven Diablo Rosso IV. However, put the Corsa version under the microscope and thrill-seeking riders will see the features takes this tire to the next level of performance.

A carefully designed combination of structure, contours, compounds and tread pattern helps deliver higher grip in dry conditions, enhanced hard handling and consistent performance that lasts over multiple severe riding sessions. Plus, the tires’ versatile size options serve a range of popular lightweight motorcycle models.

At the core level of Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires, a dual-compound layout surrounding Pirelli’s stiff cord structure is used for both the front and rear sizes with wide, soft shoulders, allowing

PEAK PERFORMANCE

TIRES DESIGNED FOR ROAD AND TRACK

Pirelli packs more than 150 years of know-how into every tire it makes and the Diablo Rosso IV Corsa offers a fine-tuned solution for your customers looking for a balance of reliable road capability and enhanced track performance.

for performance-savvy cornering and straight-line traction. Each front tire features a harder, full-silica layer that aids in high-speed stability, while cornering contact past 25 degrees is accomplished through the softer side layers.

Diablo Rosso IV Corsa rear tires are designed to work together with the fronts, featuring a compound design that promotes fast cornering, quick throttling and excellent grip in any conditions. The side compounds in the rear tires are derived straight from Pirelli’s racing experience, warming up fast and welcoming the challenge of extreme out-ofthe-corner acceleration.

The contour designs used are the same used in the World Superbike Championship. A multi-radius design allows for

quick change in direction while also holding a confident line when leaned over, cornering. Each front and rear contour design are synchronized for an ideal riding experience.

The tread pattern of Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires visibly sets them apart from the Rosso IV. They use center grooves that are a “slicker evolution” of Pirelli’s patented FLASH groove. The tread pattern helps deliver directional stability, promotes regular wear and aids in water drainage as speeds increase. Consistent performance over multiple aggressive riding sessions is a major goal of Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires, and their center slick tread design helps accomplish that.

These tires are available for 17-inch front and rear wheels, in 110 and 120 sizes for the front and sizes ranging from 150 to

200 in the rear. This range of sizes and versatile characteristics make Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires a fine-tuned solution for your customers looking for a balance of reliable road capability and enhanced track performance.

PUSHING LIMITS

While these tires may fit the bill for many of your customers, there’s no doubt that some riders push their bikes to higher limits at the track. Pirelli is incredibly familiar with pushing the boundaries of tire capabilities, always looking for that next 1 percent gain required to edge out the competition in professional road racing.

A product of finding these limits, Pirelli kicked the Diablo up another notch with the Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4. This iteration of the Supercorsa was derived directly from competition use and has been meticulously engineered by Pirelli to unlock motorcycles’ full potential from the track to the road.

Compared to its precursor, Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires have been refined for enhanced riding ease and maximized edge grip, delivering the stability and confidence riders need when pushing speeds and angles to the limit.

Pirelli achieved the difficult balance of premium racetrack performance and on-road riding comfort with its dual compound layout applied on next-gen profiles. In fact, Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires are the first Supersport front tires with a dual-compound, cap and base layout. This means that the center stripe is built to handle high-speed stability and highstress resistance, while the base layer maintains consistent temperatures to resist wear and unsatisfactory performance.

Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires feature the same racing profiles as the Diablo Superbike tires used in World Superbike competition. A flatter shoulder aids in lineholding grip in corners while multi-radius contours make immediate transitions from leaning to upright possible.

The tire technology that Pirelli built into the Diablo Supercorsa SPV4 was derived directly from competition use and has been meticulously engineered by Pirelli to unlock a motorcycle’s full potential from the track to the road.

Pirelli’s FLASH tread pattern is also leveraged in Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires. In this case, it contributes to an enlarged central footprint with optimized tread stiffness thanks to reduced groove deformation. What does this mean for the rider? This means consistent, strong traction through all levels of acceleration, regardless of lean angle.

Lean angle performance is enhanced further with fewer lateral grooves and more rubber contacting the pavement at mid to full-lean, giving riders the grip they’re looking for at extreme cornering angles.

Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires also share the same internal structural materials as the Superbike tires, yet they’re designed for balanced behavior both on the road and on the track. This allows the tires to deliver the cornering performance expected of them while holding their structure on long, high-speed straightaways like highways.

Thorough engineering and development went into giving Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires the ability to perform at such a high level from the road to the track, but that doesn’t mean it’s complicated for riders. A simple tire pressure change is all that’s needed to ensure they’re getting the most out of their tires. Drop down from road pressures to 33psi front and 30psi rear when warm and they’re ready to attack their lap times.

Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tires are also available for 17-inch front and rear wheels in 110 and 120 sizes for the front and in a range of 140 to 200 sizes in the rear. Even further, each size’s structure has been designed to maintain the performance characteristics of the tires in that particular profile and size.

This selection of versatile, high-performance tires from Pirelli helps your customers ensure they’re prepared wherever the ride is taking them . ■

Matching Set

A Coordinating Helmet, Gloves and Bike

Sure, it’s nice to have a matching helmet and gloves, but why stop there? ICON went one step further by adding a matching Kawasaki Z125 for the Elsinore Kaonohi helmet and coordinating Hooligan gloves.

The highly modified Z125 has a look that’s inspired by the tropical style of the Elsinore Kaonohi, but the custom touches go well beyond the graphics. A 155cc big bore kit, MNNTHBX Mtake Intake and Yoshimura exhaust amp up the stock 9.5hp, and the power can be dialed in with a DynoJet Power Commander and AutoTune.

In order to have a great graphics package, the Z125 needed a big canvas. The team at ICON modified an Airtech Yamaha OWO1 fairing to fit the diminutive Z125, then sculpted a one-piece tank cover and tail section from fiberglass. All the bodywork provides plenty of real estate for the Elsinore Kaonohi graphics, but it also makes the Z125 look like a proper road racing bike.

Other modifications include a swingarm extension and a 2.5-inch lowering link. Bumps in the road are handled by the Nitron NTR R1 shock.

The Elsinore Kaonohi helmet comes in two colorways, and the Z125 reflects the look of the blue/white combination. Riders who want a more subtle look can opt for the black colorway, which features gold graphics on a matte black shell.

Rocking a motocross vibe, including a visor, the new Elsinore is the first ICON helmet to have a removable modular face mask. The face mask and Fog-Free MXShield operate as one, allowing the front of the helmet to lift

Talk about a vibe, the Hooligan glove in the matching graphic is pure island style, proving once again that ICON effortlessly pairs good looks with real-deal protection.

easily. It makes it a lot easier to have a chat about how good that custom Z125 looks. Additionally, the face mask and the visor can be swapped out or even removed.

The Elsinore debuted with a few colors and graphics, and the two Kaonohi options are the latest to join the lineup. The graphics are laid down on an FRP shell that is lightweight but strong, and the design includes eight air intakes and two exhaust ports to keep air flowing.

Linking up with other riders is easy since the Elsinore has built-in channels for ICON’s HelmLink communicator. The Bluetooth system was developed in conjunction with SENA Communications, and up to 20 riders can connect at once.

The textile Hooligan gloves are available in color options to match both the blue/white and black Elsinore Kaonohi colorways. The gloves feature a vented polyester mesh backhand for lots of airflow, and an Ax Laredo palm has the strength and comfort of leather. There’s an internal padded knuckle as an extra layer of defense. ■

ICON doesn’t believe in half-measures. The company built a custom Kawasaki Z125 that coordinates with the new Elsinore Kaonohi helmet and matching Hooligan gloves. That’s a trick trio. Cleaning Up Additives for Engine Efficiency

This is the time of year when motorcycles are being ridden the most. The weather is warm, and there are plenty of rallies and other events to attend. While riders like being on the road rather than thinking about maintenance, it’s important to keep everything running smoothly. LIQUI MOLY has a variety of additives that keep motorcycles performing at their best, so your customers can enjoy every mile of their summer rides.

LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Engine Flush keeps the oil system clean and running smoothly. We all know the importance of regular oil changes, but sometimes, a little something extra is necessary. Sludge and other deposits build up over time inside the oil circuit, and the Motorbike Engine Flush is an easy, costeffective way to clean them out.

Simply add the flush shortly before an oil change. As the Motorbike Engine Flush travels through the oil circuit, it loosens up sludge and impurities, so when the oil is drained, all those contaminants go right out with it. Then, once the new oil is added, it can immediately perform at its best, since there are no longer any deposits in the system.

For smaller 4-stroke engines with oil systems that are only 0.2 up to 0.5 gallons (0.8-2 liters), LIQUI MOLY offers a Motorbike Engine Flush Shooter, which is a perfect 1-dose size.

Deposits can also form in the fuel system, and keeping that aspect of the engine running clean is as simple as adding LIQUI MOLY Motorbike 4T Bike Additive to any 4-stroke engine. There’s even a 2-stroke option in the form of the Motorbike 2T Bike Additive.

The Bike Additive cleans up components like the fuel injection nozzles, valves and other spots where deposits often build up over time. A dirty fuel system results in less power, but the Bike Additive removes those deposits to ensure peak performance. The Bike Additive also helps prevent new deposits from forming so the fuel system will continue to run efficiently. Furthermore, it provides corrosion protection throughout and prevents carburetor icing.

For riders who want to get top performance from their motorcycles, the Motorbike Speed Additive optimizes power in both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. MOTION PRO CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF INNOVATION

Motion Pro is a bedrock brand in powersports and the go-to for cables and premium, pioneering tools including tire irons, chain breakers, tire gauges, T-handles, and so much more. This year marks 40 years in business for the iconic company, and in recognition of this important anniversary we talked with founder Chris Carter to learn more about where Motion Pro came from, where it’s headed, and what makes it such a hive of innovation.

Growing up in Northern California in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Carter began riding Trials at 16. “But, as a young kid, you want to go fast, so I got a DT-1 and started racing motocross,” Carter says. He went pro with Yamaha in the ’70s and did the national circuit alongside legends like Gary Jones and Brad Lackey. Carter’s racing career took him to Europe, where he successfully rode the International Six Days Trials in 1975, 1976 and 1977. Carter wrapped up his racing career with an ISDT gold medal, a vast network of industry friends, and a thorough understanding of what it takes to efficiently work on motorcycles.

In

When he wasn’t away racing, Carter was gaining invaluable retail and wholesale experience working at a dealership, and then as a product developer at a Bay Area powersports distributor. In 1984, at the age of 33, he stepped out on his own to found Motion Pro.

“I saw an opportunity nobody was taking care of, and that was replacement control cables,” Carter says. “Back then the OE parts came coiled in a bag and most of them had no identification marks on them, so once you took it out you didn’t know what you had. It caused a lot of confusion, and inventory would get messed up. I put a part number on the sheath of my cables, used colored header cards for different brands, and put them in a long poly bag so you could easily compare it to the existing cable.”

Carter’s cables filled a need in the market, and his thoughtful packaging offered a solution to a problem most folks didn’t know they had. As it would turn out, solving problems with clever, quality products would become Motion Pro’s business model.

26 PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2024 SPECIAL FEATURE MOTION PRO 40 TH ANNIVERSARY
1976, Chris won a Gold Medal in what was then called the International Six Days Trial (name later changed to International Six Days Enduro). He is seen here by himself doing some service work, per the rules of the famed event. Motion Pro founder Chris Carter

Nowadays, Six Days Gold Medals can’t be won if you can’t get the rear wheel off, the tire changed and back on in less than 10 minutes. Chris learned how and sells the tools that made it possible.

Cables remain a top seller for Motion Pro, but the company is perhaps more famous for its specialty tools. Pioneering products like the strong and light forged-aluminum T6 tire irons that integrate an axle wrench, workshop workhorses like the PBR chain tool, and handy items like the Bead Buddy that makes tire changes so much easier have cemented Motion Pro’s reputation for innovation.

How does one company come up with so many original and effective products? “I have two full-time guys pursuing new ideas and tools, and have had someone in that position for the past 30 years,” Carter says. “But we get ideas from everywhere – dealers, shops, mechanics. They’ll show us something they came up with and we’ll figure out how to produce it.”

Carter says it has a lot to do with “being in the right place at the right time,” but the fact is Motion Pro is in all the important places in powersports, and has been for the entirety of its existence. Carter’s early years as a racer put him in touch with many of American motorcycling’s most influential people, and he’s still friends with them today.

Motion Pro is also heavily involved in off-road, flat track, and road racing, sponsoring teams, riders, and mechanics.

“There are guys we sponsored back in the day,” Carter notes, “and now we’re sponsoring their kids and their grandkids.” Being close to racing brings Carter a lot of joy, and it also keeps him in touch with the people that are using his products, providing feedback and offering ideas.

Motion Pro doesn’t waste time with novelty products, they make the stuff that the pros say they need. “Our parts don’t go stale,” says Carter. “We’re still selling things that I started with, like the 08-0001 chain breaker. The T6 levers have been around for probably 20 years, and cables just keep selling.”

Four decades on, what’s next for Motion Pro? “We’re going to keep going, keep innovating,” Carter says. “We’re looking at the Adventure bike market, to see what tools we can cross over to that segment, and the electric-bike market has potential. Some of the chain tools and the belt tensioner we came up with for Harleys works with E-bikes, too.”

Motion Pro has been a pillar of powersports for 40 years, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

We at Parts Magazine congratulate Carter, his company, and his dedicated employees for their contributions to motorcycles and toolboxes across the country, and thank them for their continued support of racing and riders. ■

F.I. 2.0

Off-Road Helmets for Bikes and UTVs Head Tech

Helmet technology has come a long way in recent years, giving riders a better barrier against impacts than ever before, while also being lighter and more comfortable. Three new helmets from Moose Racing include options for both offroad motorcycle riders as well as UTV riders, but they all share that same focus on providing a quality, comfortable helmet made with the latest technology.

The F.I. 2.0 Deceit helmet, Youth Vaporwave helmet and Air Intake helmet are all designed for off-road riding. While the Deceit and Vaporwave can be used in any kind of off-road scenario, the Air Intake is a full-face helmet specifically designed for UTV applications. Moose Racing knows its customers love off-road riding in all forms, from motorcycles to ATVs and UTVs, and this latest lineup of helmets shows it.

Both the F.I. 2.0 Deceit and Youth Vaporwave helmets are equipped with MIPS technology. In powersports as well as in sports like football, there has been a big focus on reducing head injuries, and MIPS technology is one of the latest innovations in helmet design. In an impact, rotational motion can occur, which can lead to unwanted energy being transferred to the rider’s head. With MIPS technology, that rotational motion can be redirected away from the brain says Moose Racing.

The MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) consists of a low-friction layer inserted between the shell and the liner of the helmet. In an angled head impact, this design helps deflect energy because the low-friction layer slides

relative to the head. The low-friction layer can move slightly in all directions, which reduces the rotational motion that is transmitted to the brain in an impact. By absorbing and deflecting some of that impact force, the MIPS BPS is designed to reduce the risk of brain injury.

Both the F.I. 2.0 Deceit and the Youth Vaporwave helmets start with a lightweight, injection-molded polycarbonate shell. Inside, the liner and cheek pads absorb moisture to help keep a rider’s head dry and cool. And, after the ride, the pads can be removed and washed so everything continues to look – and smell – fresh.

The F.I. 2.0 Deceit helmet is an outstanding choice for riders who want maximum ventilation. There are nine intake ports and three exhaust vents to keep air flowing through the internal air channels.

In addition to the MIPS technology, the Deceit helmet also has a multi-density EPS liner to aid in impact absorption. Up front, there is an extra-large eyeport, so the rider has a clear view of the track or trail ahead. Plus, the removable nose guard is there to shield from roost. The Deceit helmet is available in sizes XS to 2X.

For younger riders, the Youth Vaporwave Helmet has all the features that make parents happy and a retro neon design to keep the kids happy. Rather than being just a smaller size of an adult helmet, the Youth Vaporwave is designed to provide an optimal fit for younger riders. It has all the perks one would expect in any helmet, including an adjustable and removable visor as well as intake ports and exhaust vents to ensure good airflow.

30 PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2024 PRODUCT SHOWCASE HELMETS
Moose Racing’s new F.I. Deceit 2.0 helmet

Available in three youth sizes, the Youth Vaporwave helmet coordinates perfectly with both colorways of the Youth Agroid vented racewear.

The F.I. Deceit 2.0 helmet retails for $149.95, while the Youth Vaporwave is $129.95, meaning riders get incredible value and the latest in rotational force-reduction technology at an excellent price point.

Moose Racing designed the Air Intake helmet to connect with most fresh air systems. Ideal for the dirtiest, dustiest of riding environments, a helmet like this combined with a fresh air system ensures that a rider is breathing clean, filtered air. The injection-molded ABS shell has a connection point up top, so clean air is circulating inside the helmet during even the dirtiest of UTV rides.

The Air Intake is a full-face helmet, and it even comes with a neck curtain to help create a seal, so the fresh air stays inside the helmet, while dirt and other contaminants stay out. Of course, there is still a need for good ventilation, and the intake ports and exhaust vents help keep air flowing through the EPS liner.

Inside the helmet are the expected removable and washable moisture-wicking liner and cheek pads, and everything is topped off with a scratch-resistant polycarbonate shield. Moose Racing offers the Air Intake in a black-on-black graphic, and sizing ranges from XS to 2X. Its retail pricing of $149.95 makes it an attractive option for riders who want an air intake setup.

Moose Racing has a full line of helmets for adult and youth riders, including other designs equipped with MIPS technology, like the F.I. Agroid helmet. ■

Beaubier Leads Superbike Title Chase

With the 2023 MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike Championship concluding without him, five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier was beat up and at home. And he was having serious thoughts about staying there, as in retiring from the sport. He had suffered a serious injury in an accident at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex and was recovering at his home in Northern California.

However, the longer the off-season went, the more Beaubier missed it. The thought of racing again pulled him out of his funk, and he got ready to return. And return he did.

With two rounds and five races done and dusted in the 2024 Steel Commander Superbike Championship, Beaubier has won three of the five races and holds a 13-point lead in the championship over three-time defending Superbike Champion Jake Gagne.

Any trepidation on Beaubier’s part as to whether or not he could return to the same form he had before his Pitt Race crash is long gone. He may even be better. Beaubier split wins with Gagne at Road Atlanta with the Tytlers Cycle Racing-backed Beaubier winning the dry race one with Gagne racing his Attack Performance/Progressive/Yamaha Racing YZF-R1 to victory in Sunday’s wet race two.

Both races had been close with Wrench Motorcycles’ Bobby Fong joining the fight in race one to finish an eventual third, and Gagne’s teammate Cameron Petersen doing the same in race two to round out the podium.

Five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion

Cameron Beaubier (#6) was unstoppable at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama where he won both races.

One of the big surprises from the opening round was the speed of Superbike rookie Sean Dylan Kelly, the Floridian back from the hard-fought battles of the Moto2 World Championship to his home series. Kelly was fourth and fifth in the first two Superbike races of his career. Heady stuff. The second round of the championship was a tripleheader at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. Beaubier was the man to beat after qualifying for the three races on pole position. But things went wrong for the five-time champ on the third lap of the first race when he crashed out of the lead, handing victory to Petersen who got the better of Gagne after a race-long duel. And just like that, Beaubier was at a points deficit.

However, Gagne was struggling more than it showed in race one. The arm-pump issue that he kept mostly a secret at Road Atlanta had re-emerged and the Yamaha man would struggle to score just 17 points total in the other two races on Sunday.

Beaubier was unstoppable as he rode to victory in both races. And, just like that, he had emerged from Saturday’s nightmare with a reprieve on Sunday. His two race wins on Sunday combined with Gagne’s eighth-and seventhplace finishes translated to a 13-point lead as he heads to round three at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, May 31-June 2. ■

» And rookie Kelly? He finished second to Beaubier on Sunday morning and was third in the afternoon to score his first career Superbike podiums.

Tire and Terrain Getting Traction

With the Terra Force-R

It’s hard to understate the importance of that little credit-card-sized contact patch where the rubber meets the road, and helping your customers choose the right tool for their motorcycle can be critical.

For Adventure bikes designed to handle all types of terrain, tires must meet a wide variety of challenges. Mitas Tires (pronounced meet-us) has over 100 years of experience in creating motorcycle tires, and continues to evolve with an expansive assortment of tire choices built to suit modern machines and myriad conditions.

The Mitas Terra Force-R is among the company’s more versatile offerings. This workhorse tire, which was the stock tire for the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S motorcycle, is built for Adventure motorcycles. It’s designed to handle 90 percent asphalt/10 percent off-road.

Mitas’ multi-compound tread technology (MCTT) is constructed with a central tread compound designed for optimum mileage, and a shoulder compound with improved grip at increased lean angles, where you need it most. High silica content enhances wet-road grip for well-rounded performance in varied weather.

The very distinct tread pattern gives the Terra Force-R more than a unique appearance; the 90/10 design allows for confident off-road use, namely gravel roads, and is ideal for Adventure bikes while maintaining straight-line stability and smooth handling on the road.

Mitas relies on its own laboratory and in-house compound development, and subjects its products to rigorous R&D testing before they reach the market. For the Terra Force-R,

Mitas enlisted the expertise of world-renowned off-road/ ADV motorcycle rider and coach Chris Birch, who offered some valuable insight.

“I have to admit, I’m not a great road rider,” Birch said. “My background is much more in the off-road side of things. So, I need a lot of help when it comes to riding on the road. I need something that’s going to be stable I need something that’s going to forgive my mistakes and keep me safe on the road and that’s exactly what these tires do.”

Of course, the occasional jaunt off the paved road is a bit more frequent than 10 percent of the time for Birch, who gave the Terra Force-R high marks for handling gravel roads. “With these tires, I’m safe and secure on the road, I got loads of mileage, lots of good handling, good speed rating, but I can still sneak off down that gravel, see what’s down the end of that road safely,” Birch said. “Where these tires really excel is the windy backcountry tar roads where you got a lot of changing conditions. Sometimes the corner’s slippery, sometimes the traction’s good, wet, dry, loose gravel on the road, that sort of thing.

“I know that no matter what the road conditions are, these tires are going to sort it out for me. And that gives me a lot of confidence to start pushing my personal boundaries a little bit faster on the road and enjoy the road riding.” ■

Sealed Successor

High-Performance, Durable Drive Chain

The XRE series chains are the successor to RK’s XSO chains. XRE chains are designed to be used both on the street and off-road. This feature makes XRE ideal for high-performance streetbikes, as well as dual-sport and Adventure bikes that traverse various terrains.

The “E” in XRE represents Endurance and proves that XRE series chains are ideal where long distances and consistent high speeds continue for long periods. RK’s XRE chains were used by YART Yamaha EWC as the team conquered the FIM WEC World Endurance Championship for the 2023 season.

The FIM WEC World Endurance consists of a series of long endurance races with a duration of either six, eight, twelve or twenty-four hours of consistent racing. These long endurance races tested the performance and durability of XRE chains as the chains were subjected to extreme heat buildup, all while minimizing friction and maximizing horsepower delivery.

Compared to the XSO models, XRE series chains feature a 20 percent longer wearlife. XRE chains include XW-Sealing rings that provide two lubrication pools to help protect against high-speed abrasion, and prevent dirt and debris from penetrating the inner rollers/bushings of the chain. The XRE series chains are available in 520, 525 or 530 pitch.

The XW-Ring chains offer great high-speed, extreme heat performance, and are designed for a variety of environments from the street to off-road. XRE chains are a perfect balance between high tensile strength and lightweight while maximizing chain wearlife.

RK Chain’s new XRE series chains are designed for street and off-road use. This feature makes XRE ideal for Adventure and dual-sport bikes that traverse various terrains.

CHAIN MAINTENANCE

All sealed chains require routine cleaning and maintenance to perform as designed. RK recommends that you use a cleaner specific to motorcycle chains and that is designed to be used on sealed chains. For sealed chains used on the street, clean and lubricate the chain every 300 miles.

Non-sealed chains used on the street should be cleaned and lubricated every 200 miles. For off-road use, chains should be inspected, cleaned and lubricated after every ride. Do not use brake cleaner, engine cleaner, kerosene, or any cleaner that contains acid or caustic chemicals.

RK Chain goes racing so that riders can enjoy tomorrow’s chain technology today. What RK’s R&D learns on the racetrack through testing and perfecting results in products that ultimately find their way to dealer showroom floors worldwide. ■

Maximum Power Transfer

Upgraded Clutch Friction Plates

Shortly after Barnett Tool & Engineering’s 75th anniversary concluded at the end of 2023, the company famous for its clutch upgrades for motorcycles and ATVs announced an update on those upgrades.

Available now are new Barnett clutch kits that include reformulated K22 Kevlar and C22 Carbon clutch frictionplate materials that exceed the already superior clutch performance that Barnett introduced to the motorcycle community initially in 1991. This is when the company released its Kevlar-based clutch friction plates. In 2000,

the company had another first with its C22 carbon-based friction plates.

Both materials – K22 and C22 – are found exclusively with Barnett clutches, the company says. Now, each of those upgraded materials boasts even higher friction resistant qualities than before. This means greater tolerance against clutch heat buildup than previously found with either of Barnett’s existing K22 and C22 clutch kits. And, as serious motorcycle and ATV riders know, controlling heat build-up within a clutch assembly promotes fade-free performance that translates to maximum power transfer through the clutch for a motorcycle or ATV.

The upgraded clutch plates with those exclusive K22 or C22 formulas are included in Barnett’s Dirt Digger Clutch Kits, which provide a stronger, more positive engagement. Meanwhile, their segmented friction material design increases oil flow to the clutch for smoother, more consistent performance and extended clutch life.

Clutch kits also include heavy-duty springs that are shotpeened and heat-treated for extreme durability. As with all Barnett products, Barnett’s upgraded clutch kits are made in the USA, just as it has been with Barnett Tool & Engineering since the company was founded in 1948 by Charlie Barnett.

All Dirt Digger Clutch Kits are pre-assembled at Barnett’s facility in Southern California, but only after each clutch stack is pre-measured for proper stack height prior to packaging. This ensures reliable fit and performance right out of the box.

Barnett also offers replacement clutch baskets for a variety of off-road applications. Each basket is CNC precision machined from durable billet aluminum, and features Barnett’s patented replaceable stainless steel inserts that prevent grooving of the basket where the clutch plate tabs make contact. Oil passage windows machined into the basket increase oil flow directly to the clutch plate for cooler operating temperatures and longer clutch life. Kits are available for 125cc-and-up off-road bikes and ATVs. ■

Ready to Strike Road-Tripping With

Cobra Chrome Tires

Even icons can be improved, and Avon Cobra Chrome tires are what happens when a classic tire gets an upgrade. Based on the popular and long-running Cobra tire, Avon Cobra Chrome tires are an outstanding choice for metric Cruisers because of their longevity, stability and wet-weather capabilities. Plus, they’re great-looking tires.

Avon was founded in the U.K. in 1885. Today, the Cobra Chrome tire is manufactured in France, but that original pedigree and focus on giving riders a premium motorcycling experience have not changed.

The Cobra Chrome is currently offered in more than 50 sizes. There are even fitments for Trikes and sizes typically found on custom bikes by builders like Paul Cox, including a 23-inch front and a 330 rear. This long list of sizes means the Cobra Chrome will fit a huge range of models, from older bikes that need a fresh set of rubber to Touring models that are fully loaded for a cross-country trip.

In addition to the sizes, the tire is also offered in black as well as white sidewall styles. The technology and compound that result in the white sidewall are a well-kept company secret.

The sidewall option is yet another way the Cobra Chrome tire offers riders great aesthetics, since the tire also includes a snakeskin-inspired sidewall design and an embossed cobra head logo.

The Cobra Chrome compound and construction methods result in outstanding wet braking and stability. The compound was carefully formulated to provide more longevity compared to the Cobra tire, but without detracting from dry grip or wet performance. That’s a tall order, but the team at Avon was able to achieve it, with significant results in side-by-side testing.

The Cobra Chrome tire has a 10 percent longer life compared to the Cobra. In addition to using highly durable compounds, Avon applied its Advanced Variable Belt Density (A-VBD) technology to the rear tires. By using a densely wrapped belt in the center of the rear tire and a less dense belt on the shoulders, the Cobra Chrome rear provides a large contact patch that provides stability as well as longer wear. In fact, the Cobra Chrome footprint is 5% larger than its predecessor, giving riders a solid connection to the road in all conditions.

When it comes to wet weather, Avon’s Enhanced Aqua Flow (EAF) design gives the tread optimal water dispersal while still providing an ample contact patch. This design along with the compounds used in the Cobra Chrome combine to offer smooth, predictable braking and handling on days the weather is less than ideal. ■

Engineered for Maximum Protection

With Harley-Davidson’s Pan America motorcycle, the Motor Company established itself as a contender in the Adventure bike market. It’s a bike built for logging serious miles both onroad and off, which means it faces the possibility of some harsh conditions while out exploring.

For your Pan America customers, Dynojet has put its wellknown name behind a host of accessories engineered and manufactured to deliver maximum protection. These products are made to protect a range of the bike’s components regardless of what the trail or road has in store.

Specifically designed for durability in the event of a crash, the Dynojet foldable shift lever ensures your customers are riding home and not taking a long walk in the woods past their bedtimes. That’s never a fun way to end the ride.

The ignition coil guard offers robust protection and prom ises to keep the spark alive on that Pan America should the road-less-traveled also include a date with the dirt. The Pan America billet ignition coil guard is crafted out of 60/61 aluminum, so your customers can rest assure it’s tough.

Dynojet created its radiator guard for the Pan America to do just that – guard the radiator. The company’s development team then put that guard through the wringer, making sure it protects against the sticks, stones, roost and debris common to any off-road ride. It did so and kept operating temperatures within spec.

If your customers are putting in more pavement miles than dirt, Dynojet’s front and rear axle sliders keep the Pan America’s axles protected. They also look pretty slick, too, showcasing that stylized Dynojet D.

Finding the perfect riding boot to suit both on and offroad riding can be a challenge, so Dynojet developed a rear brake lever extension that provides both improved grip and convenient adjustability. Simply install the lever extension, adjust it to find the perfect position and hit the highway with those dialed-in ergonomics.

With this suite of products for the Pan America, Dynojet aims to make sure your customers’ machines are prepared and protected for anything Adventure riders face while out chasing down time zones. ■

Summer Flow Geared Up for Warmer Weather

Temperatures are rising, layers are coming off and Summer is at arm’s reach. Riders who live in a part of the country where winter weather inhibits two-wheel activities are itching to get back on the bike and twist the throttle. Those fortunate enough to ride year-round are preparing for warmer days ahead.

The team at THOR understands what riders want most during warm weather riding – to stay cool and comfortable. THOR’s Pulse line of racewear has been proven to be

highly versatile, combining race-proven design elements from Prime, with fit and function that serves a wide range of riders.

The design idea that drove Pulse was to bridge the gap between championshiplevel performance and workhorse reliability. The result was a hybrid-style mesh of versatility, performance and durability in one racewear package. While standard Pulse gear does feature strategically placed ventilation in its winning design, there’s no question that some summer days call for maximum airflow. That’s where Pulse Air kits come in.

THOR’s designers started with the beneficial foundation of Pulse racewear and adapted additional features to maximize airflow for Pulse Air. Strategically engineered mesh panels are implemented into each Pulse Air jersey, while fully vented mesh panels are featured in Pulse Air pants, working together to keep air moving where it needs to and keep riders cool on the bike.

Pulse Air kits are available in an updated colorway for 2024. Dubbed ‘Cameo,’ this kit can have any rider looking good on their bike with white, black and gray base colors, a subtle camo pant design, and simple highlights of Flo green.

Perhaps the best feature of Pulse Air kits – besides the temperature control – is that they’re affordable. THOR’s Pulse lines deliver professional quality design and materials at an enthusiast-friendly price point.

To keep the theme going, your customers can add THOR’s Blitz XR MX boots to their lineup. Available in a gray colorway (plus many other colors) that complements the Pulse Air Cameo nicely, these boots are a recent addition to THOR’s catalog, offering an updated boot platform that has been optimized for durability and comfort.

Packaged in a sleek, race-inspired profile, THOR has achieved these boot upgrades by implementing injection molded components throughout, including an outsole, positive lock buckles, and a medial plate with integrated shift protection. Bike gription is enhanced with fully synthetic calf overlays that are built to last. Plus, these boots boast an adaptable fit with three fully adjustable straps.

The gray color isn’t the only option for Blitz XR MX boots. THOR has maximized options for riders by offering this new boot in six different visual options, including white, black red, blue, and Acid yellow. With all these choices, there won’t be a customer that walks through your door that can’t find an option they love.

In the gear department, there are certain things you really can’t have too many of as a rider. Items like goggles and gloves are on that list, and thankfully for your customers, THOR delivers in both departments.

Looking specifically at gloves, the Spectrum line from THOR is a versatile option designed to handle a wide range of riding types and conditions. Spectrum gloves deliver a balance of mobility and protection with layers on the backhand and palm side.

Direct-injected, TPR rubber elements are affixed to the top side of the hand and fingers to add an extra layer of impact resistance whether riders are stuck in roost or barreling past bushes. A padded palm helps provide a comfortable

grip and the thumb, plus key gripping sections, are reinforced with wrapped construction for durability.

Riders will notice immediate comfort when they slip Spectrum gloves on with a molded bio-foam wrist and backhand. Plus, these gloves even help add some airflow for the warm weather days with a mesh backhand and perforated palm. Of course, they’re also touch screen compatible so riders can check those trail maps or lap times!

Spectrum gloves from THOR can complement any rider’s kit with sizes from XS to 2XL and six different color options, including blue, red, orange, black and more.

All-in-all, the summer season may bring a range of different riding locations and conditions for your customers, but THOR’s selection of highly versatile riding gear and racewear is well prepared for the challenge. ■

WELCOMING NEW RIDERS

MSF RIDE DAY PROGRAM AIMS FOR ASPIRING MOTORCYCLISTS

For those who have never ridden a motorcycle, hopping on a bike can be as intimidating as jumping on a bucking bronco. In fact, for many curious about riding, motorcycles are mysterious and scary machines loaded down with odd switches, buttons and levers.

In years past, that first ride often involved being plopped on a running minibike and given instructions that usually included, “Just twist the throttle” and “Don’t crash.” Not ideal for something as nuanced as learning how to ride a motorcycle.

Now, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has launched a solution designed to smooth the process and ease some of the fears faced by first-timers. The MSF’s RIDE Day MOTO Intro program is a free, 30-minute experience that gives aspiring riders the thrill of a first ride in a controlled, low-risk and positive environment. The RIDE Day program supplies helmet and gloves, experienced rider coaches and the bikes.

“RIDE Days connect a community with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation-recognized school in their area. Together, dealers and schools can introduce those curious about riding the right way, and help current riders check

and improve their skills,” says Corey Eastman, the MSF’s Director of Rider Education Expansion. “These efforts help to create riders who invest in their riding, earn their motorcycle license and fully discover all that riding has to offer.”

The RIDE Day program is not a learn-to-ride course, but rather a chance to have participants briefly experience their first motorcycle ride under the guidance of an MSF-certified coach. After this “First Experience”, aspiring riders will be able to start, stop, and ride around the event course. There is also a segment of the program aimed at experienced riders called SKILLS Check.

Not only is the RIDE Day MOTO Intro program designed to create a great experience for those new to motorcycling, it’s also a great opportunity for powersports dealers to be part of a process that introduces people to the joys of motorcycling – and possibly attract future customers.

To this end, the MSF offers a turnkey package for the RIDE Day MOTO Intro program that gives dealers everything they need to market and host an event at an MSF-recognized range. All a Parts Unlimited dealer would need to

do is partner up with a local riding range and the MSF supplies numerous promotional assets that can be used to hype the event. The assets include everything from images and videos for social media marketing to templates for event fliers, posters and social channels. There are even event waivers and access to MSF insurance options.

As one of the first dealers to host a RIDE Day program, Kim Harrison of Coleman Powersports, a two-store multiline dealership in Northern Virginia, says the program and materials offered by the MSF were indispensable in setting up her first event back in September 2022. Harrison also owns PowerRide University, a riding school with 10 ranges across Virginia and Maryland.

For her first RIDE Day event, Harrison used one of the ranges near a local mall, and she brought out staff from one of the dealerships. She also had a display of riding gear and selection of motorcycles for participants to check out. Using the materials and videos provided by the MSF for Facebook advertising and other marketing channels, the dealership brought in 150 people for the MOTO Intro and 45 for the SKILLS Check.

“It gave the community access to motorcycling and gave them a positive experience in a safe, comfortable environment that’s free,” Harrison says. “It also gave us the opportunity to promote the dealership, the school and the sport. It’s just a great event. I thought that one of the most exciting things of RIDE Day was how many people I observed were excited to bring their spouses, their partners and their friends to experience riding.”

Harrison says that she and the operations director for PowerRide University were both stoked at how well the RIDE Day event went, and saw about 20 percent of the participants sign up for the University’s rider training after the event.

“Having good positive dealer staff there who can have the conversation, who can talk about the bikes and the

different types of riding is a tremendous advantage,” Eastman adds. “It was a great element.”

With the industry-wide push to attract new riders – and keep them – the RIDE Day program’s approach of providing newbie-friendly riding instruction, knowledgeable dealership sales staff, and a selection of motorcycles and gear, all combines to provide a welcoming environment.

Since launching the RIDE Day program, the MSF has tracked 912 participants with an exit survey, a 30-day survey and a 1-year survey. The results show a level of engagement that extends well beyond that day on the range, with a number of them reporting they signed up for a formal rider training course, with many going on to earn a motorcycle license. More than half purchased motorcycle gear, a quarter purchased a motorcycle and most of them talked about motorcycles with family and friends.

Back in August of 2022, Armene Piper, the owner and operator of Clutch Motorcycle School in Loveland, Colorado worked with Tri-City Cycle, an independent dealer in the area, to host a RIDE Day event.

As with Harrison’s first event, Piper says the dealership had staff on hand to help, including an accessory manager that helped participants with proper helmet fittings.

“It really made them feel special. It made them feel that this is serious training,” she says. Having those employees out mixing with the aspiring riders also served as a great way to welcome them into the store, addressing another point of intimidation for many new to motorcycling.

“Do it, and you will benefit,” Piper says. “You and your staff will benefit, and your community will benefit. It will also light a fire under you and remind you why you got into this to begin with!” ■

A Do-It-All Essential

The Spray Polish that Keeps on Giving

Many off-road customers will appreciate that spraying SC1 inside their fenders and on other bodywork will help prevent

and

While a large can of SC1 is great, the travel-size 4-ounce can is perfect for keeping in a gear bag or glovebox, ready for a myriad of uses.

Most products have a well-defined purpose with specific advantages. These tires offer good grip and wear well. This mesh jacket is great in hot weather. You get the picture.

With Maxima’s SC1 High Gloss Coating, the objective was to produce a polish and surface protectant for motorcycles. As it turns out, Maxima’s magic spray is effective on so many surfaces and in so many applications, that its benefits extend well beyond powersports. This stuff is as versatile and essential as zip ties. In other words, every shop, garage and toolbox needs it.

Presented as a detailer that shines, conditions and protects, SC1 High Gloss Coating has earned the nickname,

“New bike in a can.” This surfacetenacious formula is imbued with closely-guarded ingredients that revitalize a variety of finishes. SC1 is easy to spray on and can be left to dry or allowed to set and then buffed to a lustrous sheen with a rag.

Beyond revitalizing, SC1 also protects, helping shed dirt, dust and water. It keeps painted parts glossy and clean and works great on wheels and engine cases. Offroad riders use it on the inside of their fenders and underside of their engines to prevent dirt and mud from sticking. Mechanics know it’s a great lube for installing grommets in bodywork or easing on stiff intake boots.

And thus, the Pandora’s box of SC1’s uses is opened. Do your customers haul their toys in a truck? Of course they do, and SC1 is a terrific tire dressing. It works as well on the inside of truck and trailer fenders as it does on dirtbikes. SC1 also cleans and polishes dashboards and consoles as well as any automotivespecific product.

Around the house, SC1 is an effective, dirt-defying lubricant for the tracks on closet doors and patio doors. Use it to quiet squeaky hinges and improve the suppleness of rubber weatherstripping. It’s even an impressive shoe polish, and it does wonders on belts and other leather products. If it can benefit from being cleaned, moisturized and sealed – spray some SC1 on it and prepare to be amazed.

Maxima offers SC1 in a shop-size 12-ounce aerosol can and a travel-size 4-ounce can. SC1 is so popular that Maxima has SC1 merchandise, including T-shirts, decal sheets, and water bottles. How many products can you think of that warrant fan merch? ■

Along for the Ride Accessories for Off-Road Vehicles

One of the best things about ATV and UTV riding is that it’s a chance to get away from the world. You can get out on the track, trail or even a work site and enjoy leaving everything else behind. Except, as we all know, getting away from it all requires a bit of preparation. Moose Utility Division has plenty of accessories, from mounts and storage to first aid essentials, to make sure riders are well-prepared when they head out.

One of the latest products from Moose Utility Division is the Individual First Aid Med Kit. This compact kit is packed with items, and it’s all housed in a rugged case that is ready for whatever the ride has in store.

This kit, which retails for $59.95, is useful well beyond the cab of a UTV or the rack of an ATV. It’s small enough to stash in any kind of vehicle, or even to keep at home for those unexpected circumstances. In addition to having the usual first aid items – like a variety of bandages, gauze pads, burn gel and medical tape – there are also things

that fall into the “you just never know when you’ll need it” category. There’s a multifunctional knife, paracord, an LED flashlight, and even a raincoat. Things like the fire starter and emergency blanket are handy for being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

All of these items and more are stowed in a rugged canvas bag that has both a carry handle and a removable strap, making it easy to grab and go. There is also a Velcro backing, so the first aid kit can be quickly removed in an emergency. The wide zippered opening allows the bag to be completely opened, so it lays flat for easy access to the contents inside.

While a first aid kit is something riders want on hand but hope they don’t have to use, the Moose Utility Division Elite Series Handlebar Phone Mount is something that gets plenty of use. Whether a rider just wants a secure location for their phone, needs to see directions on the screen, or wants to film the view ahead, this mount is the ideal solution.

The handlebar mount is designed for 7/8 inch handlebars, making it perfect for ATVs, mountain bikes and E-bikes.

The nylon material is extremely rugged, and the overmolded design makes it ergonomic, too. Phones can be put in portrait or landscape orientation.

For UTV riders, the UTV Phone Mount clamps to any profiled or round-tube roll cage bar. It offers both portrait and landscape orientations, and the built-in vibration isolation means videos turn out well despite the bumps in the road. Both styles of phone mount retail for $59.95. ■

Hypersport Tires for Confident Riding

Four decades after its introduction, Bridgestone’s BATTLAX range of premium motorcycle tires continues to push tire technology and design to new heights. The latest tire to join the lineup is the Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 sports radial tire.

The Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 tire is designed for sportbike riders who want ultimate confidence, stability and performance. Thanks to aspects like a newly designed compound and a cutting-edge pattern design, this tire delivers outstanding levels of grip both in wet and dry conditions.

Bridgestone designed the BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 tire to replace the award-winning S22, and the company’s extensive comparative testing shows marked improvements. In fact, the new tire turned faster lap times in both wet and dry track conditions, thanks to its excellent traction in all scenarios.

One of the ways the BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 achieves this is with the newly designed compound in the edge portion of the tread. The compound allows the tire to make better contact with the road when banking at sharp lean angles, so grip remains strong even when navigating tight corners. And, while this compound improves grip, it does so without sacrificing wear.

And, because it is part of the BATTLAX range of tires, riders know they are getting a premium motorcycle tire with the Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23. A rider can hit the road with a set of these tires knowing they are getting performance and quality.

While the Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 tire is designed as a street tire, it also can be used as a track day tire. From tackling the local track to a fun day of riding in the mountains, this tire gives riders the option to explore the capabilities of their bike with ease.

Currently, the Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 tire is available in one front size and five rear sizes, and they are already in stock from Parts Unlimited.

Sportbike riders want a tire that provides consistent, smooth feedback, and that is exactly what the Bridgestone BATTLAX HYPERSPORT S23 achieves. This is due in part to the updated tread pattern, which incorporates Bridgestone’s Pulse Groove Technology. Pulse Groove Technology is incorporated in the S23 rear tire for better wet performance and optimized land-sea ratio in the shoulder of the tire. Pulse Groove Technology improves the tire’s water drainage in wet conditions, delivering improved wet grip and stability.

Small But Mighty Pipes and Silencers for New 65cc Models

DPro Circuit offers a pair of high-performance options for a new range of 65cc 2-strokes from GASGAS, Husqvarna and KTM – the Works and the Platinum pipes.

iscovering that tweaking and fine-tuning lengths, widths and shapes of expansion chambers led to a pivotal time in the growing sport of motocross. Among the few, Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton was a pioneer in race-tuned 2-stroke pipes. Honing his skills on the heels of building a reputation as a winning engine tuner, the first 2-stroke pipes to come out of Pro Circuit’s doors in the early ’80s marked a thenunknown milestone in motocross.

Fast forward to today where Pro Circuit hasn’t forgotten its roots. Modern-era 2-stroke bikes are leaps and bounds ahead of the machines that Mitch laid his foundation building pipes for, but the concept, craft and quality have never changed. Pro Circuit remains among the names leading the charge supplying pipes for today’s 2-strokes that mix modern performance with premix-fueled nostalgia.

We’re not just talking full-size 2-strokes in the new generation of bikes, either. The big trio of brands out of Austria, GASGAS, Husqvarna and KTM, have continued to develop new mini model racers as well. Among that lineup are the 2024 65cc motocrossers, designed to be faster, easier to ride and an ideal steppingstone as young racers work their way up.

Pro Circuit’s commitment to developing pipes and silencers to optimize performance carries over to these new 65cc machines and is reflected in the new lineup of Works and Platinum pipes, which pair perfectly with a selection of silencers.

Pro Circuit’s 2-stroke exhaust products prove its experience. Whether it’s a Works or Platinum pipe, hours of dyno work ring through at the twist of the throttle. Works pipes boast that classic 2-stroke motocross pipe look and back it up with crisp throttle response and performance gains across the entire rpm range.

Platinum pipes offer those same gains but are finished with a nickel plating that protects the pipe from the harsh elements of motocross and off-road riding. This is an ideal solution for your customers who want less cleaning and maintenance, while enjoying that Pro Circuit power.

It’s only natural to complete a new 2-stroke exhaust with a silencer, and Pro Circuit has developed its iconic lineup for a package that suits every new 65cc rider. R-304 and Ti-2 silencers deliver race-ready performance with great bottom end in a compact and clean design. R-304 silencers feature long-lasting, stainless-steel construction, while Ti-2 silencers are built with carbon fiber and titanium for an incredibly light and factory looking silencer.

Another option are the 304 silencers, featuring a slightly longer design that accentuates top-end performance. For your off-road customers, Pro Circuit also offers its Type 296 spark arrestor silencers for 2024 65cc models. Type 296 silencers meet U.S. Forest Service standards for both spark control and noise levels. ■

Your 2-stroke customers are going to need silencers for their pipes and Pro Circuit has a range of options, each one ready to provide race-ready performance.

A Custom Fit! Helmets

for Every Head Shape

Heads come in many shapes and sizes, so to meet the needs of all those unique forms, Arai makes helmets that also come in many shapes and sizes. Recognizing that a properly fitting helmet is crucial to safety and comfort, Arai has designed the Corsair-X, Quantum-X, Signet-X, Contour-X, and Regent-X full-face helmets to accommodate a range of head forms and sizes so your customers can get an ideal fit.

As Arai sees it, heads come in three primary shapes: Round Oval, Intermediate Oval, and Long Oval. The Round Oval is very close to a purely round shape, but with a slight increase in length at the front and back. The Intermediate Oval is a little longer front-to-back, and the Long Oval is longer still and a little thinner side-toside than the Intermediate Oval.

Arai has found that the Intermediate Oval is the most common head shape, and the Corsair-X, Contour-X, and Regent-X are all designed to fit Intermediate Oval heads right out of the box. And, because the Round Oval is the second most common shape, these three helmets can be tailored to fit rounder heads by removing the 5mm peel-away layers from the temples.

The ability to fine-tune helmet shapes and transition models between formats extends to the other helmets in Arai’s

lineup as well. The Quantum-X is Arai’s purpose-built street helmet and features a Round Oval interior shape. However, by modifying the head liner the Quantum-X becomes even rounder inside, or, if you swap the comfort liner with one from the Corsair-X, the Quantum-X morphs into an Intermediate Oval. Likewise, the Quantum-X liner can be installed into the top-of-the-line Corsair-X to fine-tune that helmet’s interior proportions.

For Long Ovals, there’s the Signet-X, which has its own EPS liner molded specifically for the Long Oval shape. However, this helmet can easily fit the Intermediate Oval shape with simple modifications.

Arai is committed to an ideal fit, and has been making helmets since before helmet standards even existed. In its over 70 years of experience as a three-generation family company in Japan, Arai goes to such lengths for fit because its priority is protection.

With three head-shape choices and so many options for adjustment, Arai makes it easy to custom fit a helmet to suit your customers. An added benefit here is that if a customer is in love with a specific style helmet – all models are offered in numerous colors and exciting graphics – but it’s not a perfect match for their head shape, you can modify the interior proportions to work.

It can take a little studying to get fully familiar with the possibilities, but it’s well worth familiarizing yourself since this is a highly beneficial feature of the Arai lineup. ■

TBuilt to Perform Race-Winning Drive Chains

hree factors play key roles for winning in motocross and Supercross competition. Factor No.1 is a fast and reliable motorcycle. Factor No.2 is a fast and dependable rider for the motorcycle. Finally, Factor No.3 includes equipping the motorcycle with the right combination of speed parts that are also reliable enough to finish the race.

Honda’s factory-backed HRC motocross and Supercross teams competing in this year’s AMA 250 Supercross, motocross and SuperMotocross 250cc championships certainly have the motorcycles capable of winning. And one of HRC Honda’s team bikes is ridden by one of the AMA’s young up-and-coming riders, Jo Shimoda from Japan. Shimoda, in turn, brings sponsorship from D.I.D Chain that includes equipping his factory-backed Honda racer with D.I.D’s popular 520ERT3 non-sealed drive chain.

No doubt, Shimoda is considered among the AMA’s rising stars in the sport today. Born in Suzuka, Japan, Shimoda resettled in America when he was 10 years old to expand his future as a motocross and Supercross racer. By the age of 14 he won the 2016 Supermini 2 AMA Amateur National Championship, in the process gaining the attention of his competitors and team managers alike.

Shimoda turned pro in 2020, finishing third in the AMA 250SX East Region championship. That accomplishment earned him AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year Award, becoming the first Japanese rider to earn that honor. The

For 2024, Honda rider Jo Shimoda (right) is counting on D.I.D’s 520ERT3 chain to help him perform as he competes in the AMA Supercross 250, AMA Motocross 250 and SuperMotocross 250 Championships. Shimoda seen here with D.I.D’s Clayton Solise (left).

following race season included another first by this young rider; he won his first AMA 250SX main event – again becoming the first Japanese rider to do so. He ended the 2021 season ranked second in the East Region standings. As the 2024 season unfolds, Shimoda will compete for HRC Honda in AMA Supercross 250, AMA Motocross 250 and SuperMotocross 250 Championships, relying on D.I.D’s 520ERT3 chain throughout.

The D.I.D 520ERT3 chain is considered by many competitors to be a perfect chain for Supercross, motocross and SuperMotocross racing due to its light weight, and its strength and durability for 250cc-class bikes. According to D.I.D the chain offers a high strength-to-weight ratio. By eliminating the need for rubber O-ring seals between the 520ERT3’s gold links, mechanical drag is minimized, creating less rolling resistance. The chain’s rollers and gold links are also easy to clean and lubricate in between motos.

Those are qualities and features that are especially important to team rider Jo Shimoda and his HRC Honda 250. And if the 520ERT3 chain is good enough for him and his factory-backed Honda racer, it’s certainly good enough for Parts Unlimited customers seeking a strong, yet lightweight, 520-chain. ■

Jackets for Varied Weather Conditions Controlled Comfort

These days, there’s a lot more to gearing up for a ride than just grabbing the same worn jacket over and over again. Alpinestars ensures riders have plenty of choices when it comes to gear, including jackets that are designed to suit different riding conditions.

A jacket like the T-GP Plus R V4 provides full coverage and plenty of breathability on hot days, while the Andes 3 Drystar jacket is a waterproof option with high-tech construction and materials that make it compatible with all riding conditions.

The T-GP Plus R V4 jacket has stepped in to replace the V3 version. This new, upgraded style includes a 3D pattern silhouette that enhances ergonomics plus beautiful finish and detail throughout.

The 450D poly chassis is bolstered by 600D poly reinforcements in key areas, DFS Lite shoulder sliders, and Nucleon Flex Plus armor in the elbows and shoulders. The T-GP Plus R V4 jacket is designed for excellent airflow, which is why there is extensive mesh paneling on the chest and back. Additional perforated panels can be found in the upper back, chest and forearms. All of these panels provide plenty of ventilation to keep riders completely covered but still cool in warm riding conditions.

Alpinestars designed the Andes 3 Drystar jacket to be one of those pieces of gear that can handle just about any weather conditions. The company’s exclusive Drystar waterproof/breathable membrane makes this jacket 100% waterproof, but it still has good breathability, so riders stay comfortable even during harder riding.

Further airflow comes by way of the Alpinestars Direct Ventilation System (DVS), which includes zippered chest air intakes and back exhaust ports. Even the pockets aid in ventilation, since the zippered hand pockets can be used to control airflow, too.

The team at Alpinestars knows temperature control is an important part of comfortable riding. In addition to the ventilation, a removable long-sleeved thermal liner helps on those colder days.

The Drystar membrane is combined with a reinforced polyfabric textile, which is rugged and durable. Nucleon Flex Plus shoulder and elbow protectors come already installed, and the jacket has compartments to easily add Nucleon chest and back inserts. There are plenty of places to stash small items like a wallet and a phone on the Andes 3 Drystar jacket. In addition to the hand pockets that double as ventilation, there are also roomy, waterproof cargo pockets on the front, a large utility pocket on the lower back, and internal pockets. ■

excellent filtration by catching dirt and dust, yet resists clogging up. A special reticulation process, which opens the foam cells for better airflow while still maintaining an effective net for catching debris, ensures the engine can breathe freely and produce maximum power.

The 15mm thick Premium Air Filter consists of two layers of foam that differ in thickness and function. A coarse outer layer catches larger debris, while a denser, inner layer effectively catches smaller particles of sand and powder, which are often the most harmful to the engine since they can fit between moving parts like the piston and cylinder wall. With these two layers and a quality filter oil like Maxima’s FFT (Foam Filter Treatment), your customers can feel confident knowing their engines are getting excellent protection and making maximum power.

As a reusable filter, Premium Air Filters are chemical resistant and durable, so they’ll hold up to many seasons of use. To that end, the two layers of foam are heat-laminated to provide a secure connection that won’t affect airflow, and Permabond high-strength adhesive is used to weld the seams and maintain the integrity of the filter, wash after wash.

For those who would rather spend their time riding than washing, wringing out and oiling their air filters, ProFilter’s Ready-To-Use Air Filters are the king of convenience. These filters provide the same high-flow performance and exceptional filtration as ProFilter’s Premium filters, but in single-use, disposable format.

The two biggest factors affecting engine longevity and performance are on-time oil changes and clear combustion air. Maxima Racing Oils has a slew of quality oils to keep your customers’ engines properly lubricated, and its sister brand, ProFilter, has the air filters to ensure those motors are breathing clean air. Off-road riding is all about excitement, whether it’s tackling tough terrain or enjoying a dirtbike’s performance. There’s also the sound and sensation of rolling open that throttle. LeoVince’s new X3 EVO slip-on exhaust improves the sound and style of your customer’s bikes with Italian design, cutting-edge materials, and seven decades of R&D know-how.

Whether replacing a banged-up pipe or swapping out the OE exhaust on a new machine, the X3 EVO is an easy choice. The slip-on features premium materials, highquality craftsmanship and eye-catching style.

The X3 EVO’s contoured body is made of tough AISI 304 stainless steel with a matte finish. That subtle sheen is durable, so it will stay attractive for many rides to come. The assembly is TIG welded, and features a beautiful carbon fiber end cap, making each muffler a work of art. A tough, UV-resistant clear coat adds depth to the carbon’s texture and helps prevent fading.

The X3 EVO features two different brackets. One uses metal hangers TIG welded directly to the body of the exhaust and

is equipped with anti-vibration inserts. The other is a full carbon fiber hanger. The fitments are model specific, and both provide durable mounting. In addition to looking great, the X3 EVO from LeoVince sounds fantastic. This muffler has an interior shape designed to unleash a deep exhaust tone.

The LeoVince X3 EVO complements any offroad machine, and is available for many popular models. It is equipped with a USFS-approved spark arrestor, and each pipe comes with a plug for use when washing the bike. ■

Tire Compounds for Varied Terrain

ifferent terrain calls for different UTV tire options, and with the Roctane ST and Roctane STX tires from High Lifter Tire and Wheel by STI, your customers can choose between two compounds – Standard and Sticky – to suit their taste in terrain.

The Roctane ST has a standard, highly durable compound that’s great for high-speed trails and desert terrain, while the Roctane STX is a softer and stickier tire that excels in slick conditions like rock crawling and steep, technical trails. Those are the quick notes, but there’s more to the Roctane ST and Roctane STX than that.

widely spaced, staggered tread near the shoulders provide grip in loose terrain.

The Roctane ST is optimized for higher speeds and longer life thanks to its medium tread compound and burly 10-ply carcass. The tire features a reinforced lower sidewall and heavier ply cord for extreme durability. The new tread, tread compound, and carcass design maximizes ride quality and trackability on loose or hard packed terrains.

When High Lifter Tire and Wheel by STI set about developing the new Roctane lineup, the objective was to create its most versatile trail tire to date. It started with an optimized tread with deep, ¾-inch to 1-inch deep multi-angle tread blocks and a low center void for smooth, easy rolling, while

For rock crawling and other slick scenarios, the Roctane STX’s more flexible carcass and stickier tread provides sure footing. Made with eight plies, the radial carcass of the Roctane STX allows the tread to flex and develop a larger footprint, especially when the terrain is highly uneven. At the same time, a proprietary soft tread creates more mechanical grip on surfaces. ■

Game Changer

Long-Lasting and Maintenance-Free Chain

Since the beginning, motorcycle chains required periodic lubrication to protect the rollers and links against friction and wear. As motorcyclists know, chain lubrication is critical under all circumstances, from around-town commuting to severe conditions such as high-speed road racing.

Then, a short time ago, Regina Chain released its lubricationfree HPE (High-Performance Endurance) drive chain, and the game changed forever. Regina’s first lube-free HPE chain came in 525 sizing for medium and large-displacement motorcycles. A short time later Regina Chain introduced an HPE 520 to fit popular Adventure Touring and Dual-Sport bikes.

Both the 520 and 525 chains are based on Regina’s Z-Ring design, utilizing Regina Chain’s patented surface treatment requiring no lubrication. A unique lube-free design consists of a coating technique known as Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon (taC), among the most advanced commercial coating treatments for metal.

After application during the manufacturing process, the permanent taC coating on the rollers and bushings allows

for direct contact between the chain’s coated hard-surface rollers and the motorcycle’s countershaft and drive sprockets. The permanent friction barrier also allows smoother, superior power transfer to the sprockets.

Additionally, HPE chains are environmentally friendly because no aerosol chemicals are released into the air. And, less mechanical drag offers improved fuel economy, with no lubricant residue being slung onto the motorcycle’s rear wheel. The result? A cleaner motorcycle. As an added aesthetic bonus, the innovative HPE chains have gold link plates that help give the motorcycle a cleaner and more refined appearance. ■

process of fitting a set of braided brake lines. On-road testing ensures everything fits and functions well, and then the lines go into production. That means everything, from R&D to manufacturing, happens in the USA.

Customers, whether that’s a shop or a rider, can find stepby-step installation instructions online at GalferUSA.com, but for those who want an extra level of service, Galfer has a dedicated technical support team member who is just a phone call away.

hen we talk about performance upgrades, we usually think about speed or handling. But, how well a motorcycle or powersports vehicle stops also makes a big difference in performance. Upgrading to a set of stainless steel braided brake lines from Galfer is a quick, efficient way to improve braking performance.

Galfer has thousands of part numbers for its brake lines, with fitments for street, off-road, ATV and UTV models. The team at the Galfer USA headquarters in Nevada brings in a bike, documents its braking system, then begins the

Braided brake lines are made from 72 lines of braided steel, and the hose itself is lined with Teflon. This helps prevent expansion, even under hard braking, giving riders more precise braking and better lever feel. A clear outer coating protects the bike and the line.

Each brake line includes necessary installation hardware, such as banjo bolts and washers, as well as Galfer’s lifetime warranty. ■

Simplified Syncing

Tuner for Carbs and Throttle Bodies

Like an out-of-balance tire, out-of-balance carburetors or throttle bodies can make a motorcycle do weird things. Rough idling, surging at steady throttle and erratic throttle response are symptoms of badly out-of-whack carb or throttle body banks. The fix is to dial in the individual carbs or throttle bodies so they’re all pulling the same vacuum, and for that you need a quality synchronizing tool like Motion Pro’s SyncPro Carb Tuner.

The SyncPro is a four-channel vacuum indicator specifically designed for use in synchronizing 4-stroke engines with multiple carburetors or throttle bodies. Motion Pro ditches the toxic mercury and instead uses a proprietary liquid in the manometers. The tool’s spill-proof design allows it to be stored vertically or horizontally, while a hook at the top and rubber feet on the bottom of the enclosure provide convenient options for positioning the tool while in use.

Ohargers that are Always Ready

This is ideal if a rider is parked and still want their USB device to receive charge.

For lithium motorcycle batteries 13.3V equals 90 percent state of charge. After the OptiMate USB goes to stand-by mode after one hour, even the smallest battery (2.5Ah) will still hold more than 50 percent charge.

If the battery voltage drops quickly below 12.4V (50 percent SOC for an AGM battery), it will go to stand-by immediately.

The OptiMate USB O-118 with USB-C port and the O108KIT O-108 with USB-A port, both deliver a charge of 3300mA, and connect to the battery with a fused battery harness with ¼-inch (M6) ringlets.

charging if it senses the vehicle’s engine has been turned off, protecting the vehicle’s battery from further discharge. When the engine fires up, the USB charging starts up again.

How it works: When the vehicle’s battery voltage drops below 13.3V a count-down timer is triggered, allowing USB charging for one hour and then it goes to stand-by.

Other OptiMate USB-A chargers with smart standby mode include the fully sealed O-108 and the plug-n-play O-100 that delivers 2400mA. Both connect to the battery through the SAE connector of a fitted battery harness. ■

WDoubling Down Two Rings for a Better Seal

össner’s state-of-the art research and development lab and manufacturing facilities allow the German brand to rapidly produce performance parts for the latest powersports models. Wössner has pistons for nearly every ATV, UTV and motorcycle, and the company already has fitments for many 2025 models, including popular GASGAS, Husqvarna and KTM 85s and 125s.

KTM’s new 125SX TBI is a ripper right out of the box, and Wössner’s replacement pistons are available to help keep the bike running strong. Made to exact tolerances and featuring a friction-reducing coating on the skirt, Wössner’s 2-stroke piston is a great alternative to the OEM part. With a dual-ring design, Wössner’s 125SX piston seals better and does a better job transferring combustion heat to the cylinder wall, which helps the piston run cooler and last longer.

The dual-ring design is so effective at improving durability that Wössner has applied it to many models originally offered as single-ring setups. SuperMini builds benefit from the added sealing and conductivity of dual rings due to

their high state of tune, and to meet that segment’s demands Wössner has a 52.00 millimeter dual-ring piston for 105cc builds. Other small-bore bikes that can be outfitted with a dual-ring piston include the 2013-2024 GASGAS and Husky TC85, and KTM 85SX models.

All piston kits are provided as a complete package that includes the piston, rings, wrist pin, and circlips. ■

Full-Size Performance for Lightweight Sport Bikes

hen it comes to small wheels and lightweight machines, the tire demands may change, but choosing the right set is no less important. Tire choice is especially critical when sport performance and competition are on the line.

Kenda’s Kwick KD1 is a race-inspired tire designed for scooters and small, lightweight motorcycles such as the Honda Grom or the Kawasaki Z125. The Kwick KD1 tires are constructed from a super sticky compound that makes them squarely aimed at track performance. Kenda’s goals were to offer professional-level grip along with low rolling resistance and optimum cornering traction for racers pushing mini sport bikes to their limits.

Although sport performance is central focus, these tires are DOT-approved for street use, and can serve as a great go-to tire for everyday use. The reversed tread patterns are aimed at improving wet-weather performance and water drainage, making them suitable for varying conditions.

With its roots in two wheels, Kenda has been making motorcycle tires since 1970, and has since grown to produce
