Season Kickoff by D on Em de
T
he season has begun — in more ways than one. In racing, Supercross returned in January to Angel Stadium of Anaheim for the 2017 kickoff event, best known as “A-1.” Thor MX and Moose Racing both have some top riders in their gear and we wish our guys well. Thor riders Marvin Musquin and Jason Anderson scored well at A-1 and carried their success on to Race 2 in San Diego. They were then joined near the front of the pack at Anaheim’s second race (A-2) a few weeks later by rookie 450 rider Cooper Webb. It took Cooper a couple of races to adjust from the 250 Yamaha he raced last year to the 250cc West Supercross title to his new factory Yamaha 450. We had two writers — Joe Colombero and Steve Cox — covering all the action at Anaheim. Be sure to read their features in this issue beginning on page 12.

On the industry side, as you read this issue, Parts Unlimited will be gathering in Indianapolis for their first NVP/Product Expo of 2017. All indicators are that dealers from around the country will be arriving there ready to check out new products and programs from the many participating vendors. Once dealer’s orders are placed, Parts Unlimited’s industry-leading order fulfillment system ensures products arriving at the stores in only a day or two in most cases. Watch for our Indy Show report in our next issue. Hope to see you there. Speaking of new products, be sure to check out Michelin’s new Power RS series of sportbike tires starting on page 22. The new tire line will, as Michelin says, “unleash” a rider’s full potential out on the road.

We wish everyone a great season.

I
t’s been 20 years since Brian Klock and Dan Cheeseman were working in a small garage in rural South Dakota, scraping together parts for custom bikes they hoped would garner some magazine coverage while working on whatever came through the door. For Klock, it was a natural progression from spray-painting cars with his brothers at home to being a noted custom bike builder and namesake behind Klock Werks. Cheeseman took a different path, opting to get into the custom world rather than pursue a career in finance or banking that his college degree had prepared him for. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Mitchell, S.D.-based Klock Werks has grown from that small business into a custom bike powerhouse that still turns out genre-bending custom bikes while also producing a whole range of aftermarket products for the metric and V-twin bike segments. Klock says that it’s an honor to have had such longevity and success in the business he loves, and is proud to count among his friends legends like Arlen Ness and Donnie Smith, heroes he had only looked up to from afar. “To know that I’ve had an impact on our industry is humbling,” he says. Klock’s passion for tinkering as a youngster led to an FXR project in 1988 and his first award-winning custom in 1990. John “Quigley” Patton then helped Klock open his business where they built a turbo-charged Bagger for his dad, Roger Klock. After this, Cheeseman came aboard as COO and the two set to building the Klock Werks name and style. Bit by bit they built up the business and in 2004 they moved into Klock

Werk’s current 7,000 square-foot facility. In 2005, Laura Klock joined the team and it was here they started growing the company’s product line starting with fenders, and eventually including the popular line of Flare windshields. Business blossomed along with the V-twin boom and 2006 brought two highlights — winning the Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off competition with a custom Bagger, and getting into that Drag Specialties FatBook catalog. Klock said he is particularly proud of his long relationship with Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties, and still remembers when LeMans chairman Fred Fox told him he was going to build a bike for the Drag Specialties FatBook cover. He ended up building a Shovelhead Bobber that appeared on the cover of the 2006 FatBook alongside a custom built by Tank at Tuff Cycles. Klock Werks expanded its product offerings into the metric bike market in 2014 and now produces a number of aftermarket upgrades for Indian Motorcycles and the recently shuttered Victory line. Throughout two decades in business, through the successes and the failures, Klock says he’s remained humble, something he learned in those early days from Ness and Smith. “I’m not a quitter. I love motorcycles and I love motorcycle people,” Klock says. “No matter what happens, if you surround yourself with good people and you are good to those people in return, when you fall, they’ll be there to pick you up.” Parts Magazine would like to congratulate the whole Klock Werks team on its 20th anniversary. ■

INTRODUCING
POWRPRO BLACK,
THE BEST FUEL-INJECTION TUNER ON THE MARKET This is the new and improved version of the award winning PowrPro fuel tuner, now using the latest accelerometer enabled software for precise real-time tuning. Once you install the PowrPro you can say good-bye to old-school EFI “mapping products” and O2 sensor hassles. The PowrPro reacts to the bike’s acceleration to adjust for the optimum air/fuel mixture, under every kind of load and under all existing conditions. And here’s the really great news, should you need to adjust your bike’s air fuel ratio outside of the acceleration area, you can do that now with your smart device and our cloud based app.
PowrPro Black retains it’s simple plug and ride connection, for a simple installation.

The new PowrPro Black bluetooth app works on Android and Apple iOS smartphones. Using the cloud based app you can now adjust cruise fuel, take fuel away, check rpm and monitor the injector duty cycle.

Moose Racing
In the 250cc class, Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger has upped his game for 2017 and has been scoring consistent podiums in the quest for his first Supercross West title. Plessinger came on strong in the outdoor nationals in 2016, finishing fifth in the points chase and winning a National and a couple of motos. When the series heads east, look for Dylan Ferrandis (108), Mitch Harrsion (45), and Colt Nichols (39) to run up front in Thor racewear in the 250cc Supercross East. “We have a lot of history with our riders,” says Andrew Gustafson, Pro Rider Support man for Parts Unlimited/Thor. “They help with product fitment, features and benefits with the products, plus they’re great ambassadors. For Supercross, which takes place mostly in winter and at night, they like Prime Fit for its compression wear feel. “Marvin and Jason will be strong this year on the 450s and we have high hopes for Cooper to get used to the bigger bikes and make some noise as well. Aaron has shown great promise as a top 250cc rider for the western leg of the series and our eastern riders all have been training hard and showing good speed in practice.”

Moose Racing also has a top rider in the 250cc class. Riding the Autotrader.com/Monster Energy /Toyota/JGR Suzuki, Phil Nicoletti (37) will wear Moose Racing colors and run Moose Racing hard parts on his machine. Nicoletti has been with Moose Racing for a while; as a privateer he has served as every team’s favorite “replacement” rider because of his strong work ethic and ability to break into the top 10 indoors and out. This season with Suzuki, he’s looking to put the Moose Racing brand in the winner’s circle. Dick Burleson, brand ambassador for Moose Racing, can often be found manning the Moose rig at Supercross, motocross, and off-road events. The eight-time National Enduro Champion enjoys talking racing, hard parts and Supercross at the rig. “We’ve got the Moose Racing truck and display doing the first five Supercross events in the west and then moving to off-road racing,” says Burleson. “We’re here to support Nicoletti, who is just a good hard working rider that we’re proud to have. We love to go to the races, so if you see the Moose Racing truck please feel free to drop by and talk to about racing and new products. We’re here all day.”

The Moose Racing rig will be at the western rounds of the SX Series and then move on to off-road events. Dick Burleson (eight-time National Enduro Champion and Hall-of-Famer) talks to fans at the Moose Racing rig at Anaheim 1.
Here’s a look at the new Parts Unlimited stage where host Rob Buydos will take to the stage several times a day to talk with celebrity guests, racers, past winners, and other industry dignitaries, and update fans and dealers on the day’s events and action on the track.
Dealer VIP Supercross is one of the greatest shows in motorsports and each season Parts Unlimited dealers have the opportunity to watch in style. Hylton Beattie, Parts Unlimited global motorsports director explains some of the programs Parts has for its dealers. “For 2017 we have some new things for our dealers,” Beattie says. “For a limited number of dealers we have the Early Morning Dealer VIP Program. This is for dealers who want the whole Supercross experience behind the scenes, on the track and meeting the racers.” The day begins with breakfast and then a VIP private tour with the “voice of LeMans” Rob Buydos. The tour takes the dealer through the trucks the company supports; they also get to see the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Center, and a tour of the Alpinestars display to see the latest products. The tour then moves to Dunlop for a quick overview of the tire programs, and then it’s onto the team trucks to meet with riders for photographs, and talk with the team managers and owners. The whole tour takes place before the pits open to the public, so it’s a personal and private tour.
Another dealer program is called the Parts Unlimited Fan Zone, where they can relax and watch a live feed on the big screen TVs, listen to Buydos interview riders, legends and upcoming stars, and enjoy a catered lunch. Dealers who sign up for the Track Walk get to do just that, take a trip around the track before the action starts. ■

hen it’s winter in Southern California — at least in the motocross world — that means the test tracks are buzzing, and the majority of the American motorcycle industry is focused on the start of the new Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.
The first race of the year is also the first race for many racers who switched classes or switched teams, and there were quite a few of those in 2017.
Much like with the sport of NASCAR, AMA Supercross begins with its biggest event of the year — Anaheim 1. The first of 17 rounds of racing that take place over 18 weeks, Anaheim 1 is more than just a race, it’s an event that brings out fleets of OEM and aftermarket big rigs, moto-celebrities, current and former champions and legions of fans. Right there alongside the whole show is Parts Unlimited, offering plenty of support and comfort for its sponsored riders and VIP dealers.
Red Bull KTM/Thor rider Marvin Musquin showed at that first round in Anaheim, and the following weekend in San Diego, that he’s ready to battle for a 450cc title. He fought for the lead off the line in both of the first two rounds, and ended up placing third in both races.

3 1. KTM/Thor’s Marvin Musquin spent the off-season winning. He won the Red Bull Straight Rhythm, along with a few European Supercross races, and came into Anaheim 1 ready to fight. 2. Husqvarna/Thor’s Jason Anderson was on point with his speeds at Anaheim 1, and a week later in San Diego, starting mid-pack in both 450cc mains so far. 3. If you’re visiting the pits at any Supercross race, you can bet you’re going to see that Thor rig – and all the support and hospitality it offers – buzzing with activity.
As many predicted, Ken Roczen came in hot to Anaheim 1 on his new Honda, taking the win on the tricky and unforgiving track, in front of defending champ Ryan Dungey on his KTM. It was Roczen’s third win at Anaheim 1 in four years, but unlike in seasons past, this year, Roczen was able to back his round-one win up with a win at round two in San Diego; again in front of Dungey. Monster Energy/Yamaha/Thor rider Cooper Webb made his 450cc class debut at Anaheim 1 and put up a tough fight. The reigning two-time 250cc Western Regional SX champion is always a competitor, but very few racers have ever stepped up to the premier class and won right away.

The Star Racing Yamaha team has won the 250cc Western Regional Supercross Series two years in a row (Cooper Webb), and the 250cc National MX championship three years in a row (Jeremy Martin twice, then Cooper Webb). Now gunning to keep the dynasty going is Aaron Plessinger, the most senior team member heading into the 2017 season.
Webb fought his way through Anaheim 1 to land 10th place, but eight of the nine racers in front of him have actually won

Though it’s still early, Plessinger is second in the points run behind KTM rider Shane McElrath after placing second at Anaheim 1, and then third in San Diego. Both times out, Plessinger set the fastest laptime of the main event. It’s only a matter of time at this point. With the 2017 season still fresh, and plenty of more racing to go, there’s still sure to be plenty of ups – and downs – for riders in both classes. ■

about — acceleration, braking, handling and that almost undefinable sense of flickability, that light, agile feel. All are here in Michelin’s Power RS, the company’s most radical leap forward ever with a sportbike tire.
The Power RS now leads a lineup that includes some highlyregarded and top-selling rider favorites, Michelin’s Pilot Street Radial, Pilot Powers, Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 3 tires. One look at the new Power RS and its unmistakably aggressive tread patterns will tell you why. These are serious tires, competition inspired and they’re all business.
The Power RS difference begins with its near-slick and variable-groove ratio tread patterns, carefully engineered to cover just over 6 percent of the total tread surface. Offering outstanding grip on wet and dry roads alike and exceptional straight-line stability, it’s a performance-inspired pattern and, with that variable-groove ratio, there’s only minimal grooving at a 45-degree lean angle.
The Power RS tires, as Michelin says, are “ready to unleash your full potential!” Those aren’t empty words. Beginning with a clean sheet of paper, Michelin designed the Power RS to excel in every important category a sportbike rider cares

2CT on the front, and 2CT+ technology on the rear. Under all that, there’s a completely new, and patented, carcass. With all of this the Power RS is indisputably the most advanced and feature-packed sportbike tire that Michelin has ever offered, tires offering the kind of high-level grip, handling, stability and feel that deliver Michelin’s “Total Performance.”
2CT & 2CT+ COMPOUNDING
As the originator of Dual Compound motorcycle tires in 1984, Michelin continues to push the envelope with the Power RS Dual-Compound technology derived from the company’s latest-generation racing tires, and found here in both the front and rear tires.

The Power RS is Michelin’s new sportbike tire that’s designed for serious performance.
Both compounds were developed to incorporate Functional Polymer Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR), a compound that maximizes wet grip with no compromise, and offers a tenacious grip in the dry. It’s a 100 percent Silica center tread compound, and a 100 percent Carbon Black lateral compound on the shoulders maximizes dry grip in hard cornering.
MICHELIN TIRES
On the Power RS front tires, Michelin’s 2CT technology has accomplished two seemingly conflicting ideals — delivering great wear resistance in the center area of the tread combined with a significantly enhanced grip on the shoulders.
24
For the Power RS rear tires, Michelin’s Dual-Compound 2CT+ technology does even more. Here the center area’s harder compound has been extended underneath the softer rubber on the shoulders to give the tires much better rigidity at high lean angles, and more stability during hard cornering, especially under strong acceleration. Those rear tire compounds also include specially formulated elastomers (elastic polymers) that not only provide the Power RS with a high level of all-over grip, but also allow a fast warm up. All this is a technology developed in Michelin’ racing department and extensively used during the 2015/2016 motorsports seasons.
ADAPTIVE CASING TECHNOLOGY PLUS, ACT+
As exciting as the Power RS’s tread patterns and compounding are, underneath all that the Power RS also features a brandnew, and patented, carcass design. Michelin calls it Adaptive Casing Technology Plus, ACT+. It’s a tire design engineered to

carefully reduce the maximum rigidity in the crown area while maintaining just the right degree of rigidity in the sidewalls and shoulder areas at normal operating pressures. Michelin accomplished this with a single-ply center section with an angle close to 90 degrees, maintaining rigidity in the sidewalls and shoulders with softer, high-angle and overlapping cross plies. The result is a tire carcass that provides strong lean-angle and straight-line stability, a combination designed to minimize drifting in the curves.
UNLEASHED SPORT RIDING POTENTIAL
All of the above, as well as optimized pressure distribution of the tire on the road and the mechanical connection of the big contact patches are all part of what makes the new Michelin Power RS the headliner in its 2017 lineup. That long and impressive list of features are available in a wide variety of sizes, too, fronts and rears covering everything from the smallest street machines (bikes like the KTM 125 Duke and Honda CBR 250) to the biggest, no-fooling sportbikes at the top of the heap like the Suzuki GSX 1300 R Hayabusa. The available lineup includes the following front sizes, 120-60 ZR17 and 120-70 ZR17 and these different rears, 160-60 ZR17, 180-55 ZR17, 180-60 ZR17, 190-50 ZR17, and 190-55 ZR17. ■

hen it comes to off-road riding, Moose Racing has a selection of products that will cover just about every customer’s need, whether it is gear and apparel or hard parts.
With 2017 now underway, Moose Racing is announcing just a few of the many items that will join the company’s already packed catalogs this year, starting with new colorways for its popular warm-weather racewear, the Sahara line. This is the first time Moose Racing has done a spring release for new colorways. Savvy riders know that the Sahara pants and jerseys are a wise choice for when the mercury starts to climb. Sure, it’s still the dead of winter in many places throughout the country, but you can bet that warm, comfortable riding weather will be here before you know it. Help your customers be prepared with Sahara gear in the new yellow/blue and blue/red colorways.

keep them in commission all season long. A pre-bent ergonomic design with spandex stretch panels makes for a well-articulated fit. Riders of all sizes will appreciate the three-point waist adjustment system and locking zipper that keeps things tight and secure. The pants are available in waist sizes from 28 to 42 inches. The Sahara jersey is just as incredibly breathable and comfortable, and is specifically designed to keep your customers nice and cool when the day heats up. A lightweight and breathable design featuring a highly ventilated polyester mesh chassis makes for maximum airflow. That all-day comfort comes courtesy of a custom lightweight collar and cuff design, while the athletic fit and new design allows for a full range of movement. Of course that well-known Moose Racing logo and design is made to be breathable and last a good long time without fading. The jersey comes in sizes small to 3X.
With that Sahara pant, they’re going to get a lightweight, highly ventilated piece of clothing that’s built tough for bushwhacking trails, yet comfortable enough for running motos all day long. For 2017 the pant features a new and improved knee design with full grain genuine leather inner panels.
On the hard parts side, Moose Racing has its new dual sprockets and RFX rotors. Those new sprockets are specially designed to outlast standard aluminum rear sprockets, and are much lighter than steel sprockets. The inner ring is made from 7075 T6 aluminum, while the outer ring is built from heavy-duty steel.
The pants still feature that tried-and-true design of using reinforced high denier polyester in high wear areas to

to prevent dirt build-up. The inner rings are anodized in the following colors — black, blue, green, orange, red, and silver. The RFX rotors are laser cut from high-grade quality stainless steel, meaning they’re tough enough to stand up to some pretty heavy usage and provide tight, consistent braking. The rotors are heat treated to withstand warping and not cause excess pad wear. A special color-coded surface treatment allows your customers to match the rotor to their favorite OEM color.
For 2017, Moose Racing’s Sahara racewear is available in two new colorways.
These rotors will help brake pads stay clean, too, thanks to a unique wave design. That wave design also combines with precision-cut vented holes to help rapidly dissipate heat for no-fade braking. Moose Racing recommends that its M1, Qualifier and XCR brake pads be used with the RFX rotors. Moose Racing continues to grow its line with all the products your customers need for their off-road fun and these items are the latest. ■

ndian Scout riders just got a lot more style options thanks to Memphis Shades. The company has expanded its already wide range of applications for that motorcycle. Now, Memphis Shades has Indian Scout and Scout Sixty applications for nearly every product they make. The company already had Memphis Fats, Memphis Slim and Drop-Top Memphis Fats shields in stock, as well as five Sportshields — Del Rey, Del Rio, El Paso, Rio Grande, and Speed Demon. The new Scout products from Memphis Shades include a Batwing Fairing, Bullet Fairing, Café Fairing and Gauntlet Fairing, all of which are available through Parts Unlimited. Having so many shield and fairing options is only great if swapping them out is simple. Thanks to Memphis Shades’ unique Trigger-Lock hardware, it is. Once a Trigger-Lock hardware kit has been mounted to an Indian, any Memphis Shades application for the motorcycle can be quickly and easily added with the correct mounting plates.

The shield can then be removed and replaced without losing the angle at which it was set. Memphis Shades does everything in-house at its headquarters in Memphis, TN, and one of their primary objectives is to keep things simple for the end user. The Trigger-Lock is the perfect example: it uses several patents that highlight the simplicity of the hardware.

Memphis Shades evolves its products based on what they learn doing installs. The company is always on-site at the Sturgis and Daytona bike rallies, doing installations while the customers watch. Customers who want to amp up their sound system can fit their Scout Batwing Fairing with the MS-1 Hogtunes audio system, which disconnects easily when the Batwing is removed. ■

If Biltwell’s reported sales growth among Parts Unlimited dealers in previous years is any indication, shops committed to the brand in 2017 are in for another record-setting season. Opinions regarding why Biltwell continues to grow in what has been a soft market vary, but the self-effacing founders of the company credit their open-arms philosophy and fun-focused message in social media for their success. New colors in Biltwell’s Bonanza open-face line include Hazard Orange and Flat Olive. Biltwell jumpstarted the vintage helmet revolution a decade ago, and raised the bar higher when they dropped the Gringo on bike riders hungry for a clean style.
THE COLOR OF MONEY Because the Biltwell brand made its name with hard parts for home customizers, some are quick to dismiss its helmets as merely “chopper stuff.” The truth will surprise you — Biltwell’s top-selling retailer in Southern California is a Vespa shop in the San Fernando Valley. So much for the old biker stereotypes. Biltwell simply wants dealers to know that its helmets are popular and sell fast because they look cool with out flash and filigree. Broad market appeal matters, and Biltwell helmets have it on lock. ■

High-Performance Oils
FUCHS-Silkolene’s PRO4 range of oils are specially formulated for demanding, high-performance applications.
S
port and competition riders will want to know all about FUCHS-Silkolene and its PRO4 oils. Silkolene’s pedigree and the performance of its race-developed lubricants are well known.
FUCHS-Silkolene has been a leader in the European market for more than a century, and Silkolene’s chemists and engineers have worked with some of the biggest race teams in the world, names like BMW Motorrad, Ducati Corse, Norton, Triumph, Kawasaki, Honda and Aprilia. Not only has Silkolene developed and supplied these race teams and factories with tailor-made lubricants, the company has also offered a comprehensive oil-sampling service so the factory engineers know exactly what’s happening inside the engines they produce. The latest result of all this is the PRO4 family of oils, a full range of lubricants that are fully-synthetic, race tested and feature technologically advanced additive packages. Silkolene’s PRO4 oils include PRO4+ 5W-40 and 10W-50, PRO4 Energy 10W-30 and PRO4 XP 10W-40, 15W-50, 10W-50, and 10W-60. It’s a full range of premium oils ready to meet and exceed the demands of serious sport riders everywhere. You can start with those PRO4+ 5W-40 and 10W-50 blends. Initially developed for extreme race conditions, these are now very popular with big V-twin/V-four riders, as they are a premium lubricant in bikes like Ducatis and

Aprilias. The PRO4+ excels in these demanding, high performance applications. Silkolene’s PRO4 Energy 10W-30, developed in partnership with Honda’s Motorcycle Development Institute, is the Silkolene grade best suited for modern engines with extremely close tolerances. Along with its improved engine protection, independent testing has shown a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy, reduced oil consumption and horsepower boosts up to 9 percent. Honda now recommends PRO4 10W-30 for most of its range of motorcycles. And then there are the PRO4 XP weights, including 10W-40, 15W-50, 10W-50, and 10W-60. Built on the success of PRO4 Energy 10W-30, and with the help of a two-and-a-half-year long development program, the PRO4 XPs offer incredible shear stability and a high level of engine protection. These lubricants reduce friction, increase drain-down period, offer up to 3 percent increased horsepower, an 18 percent reduction in oil consumption and an 11 percent improvement in fuel economy, all confirmed by independent testing. Like all oils in the PRO4 range, they carry JASO (Japanese Automotive Standards Organization) accreditation, tested and meeting the exacting standards of actual motorcycle engines. ■

against the weather. In fact, the Monochromatic jacket has Waterproofing Level 3, the highest offered by Icon, to withstand heavy rain. The zippers have been fine-tuned through field-testing by the Icon team. The vent zippers have been relocated to avoid moisture buildup while still providing maximum airflow, and the main zipper has a gusset and a magnetic storm flap. Inside, the Thermolite liner is thicker than in previous Raiden jackets, but the TechMesh panels allow for more efficient core regulation and a more athletic fit. A full suite of D3O impact protectors, covering the shoulders, elbows and back, is another perk inside the jacket.
I
con might be best known as a sportbike gear brand, but here’s their dirty little secret; in addition to loving all things sportbike, the minds behind the brand are also hardcore dual-sport riders. Playing in the dirt requires the appropriate gear, so several years ago, Icon introduced the Raiden line for dual-sport riding.
Icon’s Raiden DKR boots and Raiden Alcan gloves are the perfect complement to the Monochromatic jacket and pants.
The DKR Monochromatic collection is the latest in the Raiden line. Like the name suggests, the Monochromatic jacket and pants eschew flash in favor of function. Both pieces are available in one of just two options: black or gray. That’s it. No crazy graphics, no day-glow colors. Just one color with simple Raiden badging.
The Raiden DKR Monochromatic pants are equally armed for the elements. The same HYCOR chassis is easy to get on thanks to a full-leg waterproof zipper and a generous cut that can fit over normal riding gear. Inside, D3O impact protectors in the hips and knees keep company with a fixed nylon liner. Suspenders are fashionable again, and the Monochromatic pants have a removable set for those who want options. The stirrups are also removable.
The Raiden Monochromatic jacket has Icon’s relaxed fit, featuring a long and looser design. It’s ideal for layering or for riders with a bigger frame. The chassis is made from waterproof yet breathable HYCOR, a lightweight material that helps prevent fatigue while still providing an ample barrier between a rider and the elements, or even the ground. Removal of excess snaps, zippers and pulls further decrease weight. While those unnecessary bits have been tossed by the wayside, the chassis benefits from a Teflon coating and complete seam sealing to provide even more guard

The AMS SlingShot is the tire for mud runners everywhere. Although designed as an aggressive mud tire, the SlingShot is also quite capable in all terrain, whether it is mud, snow, sand or simple trail riding. While the wide open tread design makes for an excellent self-cleaning tire, the dimpled tread elements on the surface of each lug offer better bite.

Tires that perform create satisfied customers and a satisfied customer is a returning customer. AMS has the tires and wheels that will keep your customers satisfied. AMS is now offering wheel and tires kits for the Radial Pro and the SlingShot. The Radial Pro tire/wheel kit features the AMS Radial Pro A/T tires mounted on Roll’n 104 cast aluminum wheels. The massive reinforced lugs extend to the centerline of the tire to smooth things out on the hard pack, but still keep clawing through when things get sloppy. Speaking of sloppy, large shoulder lugs wrap the sidewall to provide extra side bite when things get really slick. Your customers will appreciate the fact that these SlingShot tires are DOT for limited road use. Available in 25-inch and massive 26-inch monsters, these sturdy 6-ply SlingShots are designed to launch through any mud pit or snow drift. hen it comes to swapping out the OE mufflers for something new on a Triumph Bonneville or a Thruxton, most riders are looking something that will offer a nice boost in power and style. Your customers want those new silencers to perform better than what they’re replacing, as in opening up considerably more horsepower and torque potential, and they should sound better, too. The enhanced performance should be matched with a noticeable bark. For Triumph riders, those new mufflers have to also look the Triumph part. Appearances are important. A big reason why many riders bought their Triumphs in the first place was because of the vintage, timeless style these new-classic Brit bikes bring to the game. Now take a look at the new Triumph slip-ons from Bassani. You can take any concern about these mufflers having the correct look right off the table. The reverse-cone megaphone style is spot-on perfect, as timeless as those retro Triumphs themselves. Available in both 3½-inch and 4-inch diameters, they definitely look the part. Simply put, these Bassani slip-ons look — and sound — right at home on a Triumph. These good-looking silencers are built tough. The bodies are all 18-gauge stainless steel. The baffles are all custom-designed and Triumph-tuned for Bonnevilles, 2009 through 2016 T100s and SE Mag-wheel versions, and those café-correct Thruxtons. The mufflers are available with a choice of black or polished finishes. End caps for those muffler choices are polished or with a cool black fluted finish. Traditional looks aside, as important as that is here, there are decades of Bassani performance experience built into these Triumph mufflers. The good looks are matched with a performance kick that’ll be felt, and heard. Bassani has gotten everything right with these slip-ons. Looks? Check. Sound? Check. Performance? Check. Quality? Of course. Bassani is delivering it all here, filling in every box on a Triumph rider’s muffler wish list. ■

BLUETOOTH HEADSETS
Cord Cutters
Launching a New Wireless Headset Bluetooth headsets will also function whether or not there is an audio system mounted on the motorcycle, to allow riders outside of those on Gold Wings and HarleyDavidson Ultras to communicate with each other and utilize their favorite smartphones and GPS units. After standing back from the Bluetooth market as the technology progressed, J&M is now jumping into it with a brand-new line-up of Bluetooth helmet headsets designed specifically for installation into most flip-up modular, openface, full-face and shorty style helmets.
J&M Corporation’s new Bluetooth helmet headset will fit most modular, open-face, full-face and shorty style helmets, and provides clear, crisp audio performance.
The Bluetooth helmet headset features everything needed to install the system. The headset is ready to link up to a number of OEM audio systems, smartphones and GPS units.
J
&M Corporation co-founder John Lazzeroni was never a fan of Bluetooth headsets since the technology was first introduced to the motorcycle marketplace about a decade ago.
He and his wife Melinda developed their flagship corded helmet headsets for the Honda Gold Wing way back in 1978, a product that allowed the company to grow from a simple start-up to the powerhouse electronics vendor it is today. According to Lazzeroni, J&M’s corded headsets do not need to be charged, will function perfectly for hours on end, and perform better than Bluetooth headsets in terms of sound quality and overall volume available at highway speeds. However, Bluetooth headsets will do one very important thing that corded headsets will not, they will link directly to your customers’ favorite smartphone and provide all of the cool, exciting features and apps that are part of today’s high-tech world.

Lazzeroni says the new Bluetooth headsets will feature high-speed audio performance and durability that are comparable to the company’s elite series corded helmet headsets. These new J&M Bluetooth headsets will utilize the very best of J&M’s speaker and microphone components, like the AeroMike® VI (both boom and chin-bar mount style) and hi-intensity mount-in-helmet speakers (both 40 and 45mm sizes.) Manufactured with the CSR Bluecore8 IC, and loaded with the latest Bluetooth 4.1 software (that is upgradable to 4.2 when available), it’s now easier than ever for your customers to pair and link to their favorite audio devices. Up to four J&M Bluetooth headsets can be linked together to provide crystal clear communications at distances of up to half a mile, and the built-in high-capacity battery will provide 15 to 18 hours of continuous use between charges. These new J&M Bluetooth headsets can also link to many of the new factory installed audio systems featured on bikes like the new Indian Chieftain and Honda CTX, along with J&M’s current dual module A2DP stereo custom dongle for the Honda GL1800. Your customers will also be able to download periodic updates into these headsets direct from the J&M website to help keep up with the ever-changing world of Bluetooth audio products. With J&M warranty and full factory support directly behind this new Bluetooth headset line-up, Lazzeroni says you can be sure that it will be a big hit on your sales floor and parts department. ■

Ultimate Xtreme Clean
Star brite’s 300,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Montgomery, AL.
M
ost in the powersports industry know Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment, but few know Star brite, the company behind the product. Founded 40 years ago, Star brite is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cleaners, polishes, protectants, motor oils, fuel treatments, lubricants, sealants, and more.
having to resort to heavy scrubbing. As a result, Xtreme Clean is clearly superior to most all-purpose cleaners that are formulated to be as inexpensive as possible, relying on harsh, caustic ingredients that, over time, can cause surfaces to become dried out or faded. The same technology that makes the marine products work so well is found in every one of Star brite’s powersports products.
Star brite is best known for its extensive lineup of cleaners, protectants and polishes. They are engineered to withstand the harsh saltwater marine environment that produces the toughest conditions on the planet in terms of corrosion, UV and salt damage as well as severe wear and tear.
Star brite has a well-deserved reputation for producing great products at competitive price points. Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL., the company owns and operates a 300,000 sq. ft.-manufacturing and distribution facility in Montgomery, AL.
These 40 years of experience are what set Star brite apart from the typical appearance product company; another difference is the employees. Every product bearing the Star brite brand has been extensively tested, researched and evaluated by employees using their own boats, motorcycles, cars and trucks. As a result, Star brite products tend to be over-engineered.
Unlike firms whose products are created by third-party contract fillers for the price-sensitive automotive market where the main focus is on cutting costs in order to hit price points, Star brite is a prime manufacturer, utilizing the latest technology and ingredients to create products that get the job done without compromise.
Star brite’s mantra consists of three words: Innovation, Technology and Performance. This means finding new ways to clean, maintain and protect, using the most effective ingredients to deliver no-compromise results. As just one example, Ultimate Xtreme Clean is a new all-purpose, allsurface cleaner degreaser, not just another cheap-to-make soapy surfactant. Xtreme Clean utilizes high-tech chelating agents that work their way into the grime to break the bond that holds it to the surface in order to clean just about anything without

There are two major advantages to being a prime manufacturer that add value to every product. The first is that Star brite works directly with chemical companies, getting first access to the latest technology and ingredients without going through intermediaries, avoiding the corresponding price markups. Secondly, by avoiding third-party contract fillers, another layer of cost is avoided. These two factors combine to allow Star brite to produce great products at competitive prices. ■

hen your customers hit the road for a day ride or a weekend trip, there are always a few things to consider before it’s time for kickstands up. What’s the route (if there is one)? Is the bike squared away? And, is there a place for their stuff? That latter question can be answered with saddlebags and hard luggage, but sometimes riders want to travel light. That’s where Saddlemen’s new trio of sissybar bags comes into play. Not everyone wants a big touring bike or even a set of over-the-hump saddlebags, but most riders need somewhere to stash things when rolling out. All the bags in the lineup are built with a perfect blend of rugged materials that will really stand up to some hard use. The bags are made from tough 3mm and 1mm LeatherTech and feature oversized hardware, a handle and straps that are riveted in place and plenty of space to pack for the journey. The bags each feature a main cargo compartment flap that opens fully for easy loading. All of them can also be used without a rear rack, and have a newly designed adjustable mounting sleeve that adapts to the shape and width of a bike’s sissy bar. A molded organizer makes for a handy and safe stash spot for a smartphone or other valuables. Saddlemen made it easy to attach bungee cords or other straps to the bags by including multiple oversized

ake a look around the industry and you’ll see the obvious, the UTV market is charging along at a nice and steady clip. Whether they’re for work, play or both, UTVs are in demand and so are all the parts and accessories that go with them. Moose Utility Division is well aware of this market trend, and is busily adding new products and updated product fitments to growing line of UTV parts. With the new Moose Utility Division Bluetooth audio receiver/controller, your customers can wirelessly tap into all the music they have packed into their smartphones or other MP3 device and play it through their four-wheeler’s speakers. All your customers have to do is mount the UTV-BT (p/n 4401-0206) into the common 43mm x 83mm opening found on the dashboards of most UTVs and connect it to the AUX-in on an existing radio. They then just connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth and play tunes through the UTV’s radio. As an added bonus, the UTV-BT includes a Y jack that converts its 1/8-inch headphone style jack to stereo female RCA jacks so it can send music directly to any car stereotype amplifier your customers might be using. It also has its own AUX IN connection so it can be used with a peripheral device like a GPS or satellite radio, for turn-byturn instructions out on the trail or for playing a favorite satellite radio station.

There’s a good chance that many of your customers have audio systems installed in their UTVs. Now’s a good time to introduce them to the new Moose Utility Division Bluetooth audio receiver/controller to make the most of those systems. ■

Title Winning Tech A History of Championships
Before and After: For Mitch Payton and Pro Circuit, it all started with him working to get better performance from his old Husqvarna motorcycles.
P
ro Circuit is a company that has achieved legendary status in the world of motocross, Supercross and off-road racing. The company follows the philosophy of, “We race. We win. You benefit” in the design, production, and marketing of its exhaust systems and performance products. It all started decades ago with a young desert racer named Mitch Payton, who was looking to get enhanced performance on his Husqvarna motorcycles. It wasn’t long before Payton was the man who could get the best performance out of a Husky on the west coast. That was how Pro Circuit came into being. Soon, Payton and his team of speed specialists focused their collective energy on other bike parts and other brands. Custom-tuned exhaust pipes were the first Pro Circuit high-performance accessory sold out of Payton’s speed shop, followed by racing silencers. Pro Circuit next opened a suspension shop and expanded the available line of Pro Circuit exhaust systems and motor accessories for different bike brands. With Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, and Yamaha-mounted racers running Pro Circuit equipment, it didn’t take long for the brand to start racking up championships. In early 1990, Pro Circuit set its sights on winning a national motocross championship. To make this goal a reality, Payton borrowed a strategy from auto racing, securing a corporate sponsor. By doing this, he changed the way motocross teams would be financed and packaged forever. In 1991, Pro Circuit fielded a four-man team of relatively unknown motocross racers (including a kid named Jeremy McGrath) to contest the AMA Supercross series under the Peak Antifreeze, Pro Circuit and Honda banners. Six months later, that team swept the 125cc East and West Supercross Championships.

The same Pro Circuit exhausts that have helped land championships are also available to your customers. There are strong sellers for two-stroke and four-stroke machines.
In 1997, another pro motocross rookie, this one named Ricky Carmichael, wore Pro Circuit colors to the 125cc National Motocross Championship. This was just the beginning; legendary riders like McGrath, Carmichael and Ryan Villopoto have all raced for Pro Circuit. Pro Circuit has won its share of FIM World titles as well. FIM World Supercross Champions using Pro Circuit equipment include: Chad Reed in 2003, Ricky Carmichael in 2005, James Stewart in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and Ryan Villopoto from 2011-2014. Up until now, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki has earned 29 AMA Championships: 19 AMA Supercross Lites Regional Championships, 10 AMA 250cc National Motocross Championships and 248 AMA victories. The same Pro Circuit race winning exhaust systems are available to your customers through Parts Unlimited. Best-sellers for two-strokes are the 304 Factory Sound silencers and the Works Pipe. For four-strokes it’s the T-6 Stainless Steel slip-on and the Ti-6 Pro Titanium exhaust system. The Ti-6 Pro meets AMA sound regulations. ■

HELMETS
Extreme Standards
The Technology of Track Helmets
AGV’s new Pista GP R is billed as an “extreme MotoGP helmet,” and was built with racing in mind. The aerodynamic helmet features extreme venting and is compatible with hydration systems.
T
here was a lot of buzz when AGV debuted the Pista GP helmet, and the Pista GP R is yet another bragging point for the Italian company. The Pista GP R and its counterpart, the Corsa R, both have a long list of refinements over their predecessors. At first glance, the different styling of the two models is apparent. AGV realized that the Pista GP and the Corsa were looking similar, so the new R models of each have distinct design differences. The Pista GP R is AGV’s “extreme MotoGP helmet,” while the Corsa R fits into the role of “ultimate track helmet.” The MotoGP designation for the Pista GP R is accurate. The full carbon fiber helmet is the same as what the company’s MotoGP riders wear. One of its most distinctive features is the biplano spoiler, which improves the aerodynamics of the helmet by 4 percent over the previous Pista. AGV’s R&D department worked to create a spoiler that would detach from the helmet on impact during a crash. Although the spoiler is made to break away, the visor is not. The updated visor lock has a reinforced closure that can be operated even with gloves on, and it is both more recessed and impact protected to prevent it from opening in a crash. The new 5mm thick visor — up from the previous 3mm — still has an Optic 1 rating for no glare or distortion. The Pinlock 120 feature means that it takes 120 seconds before fogging in extreme testing.
The ventilation system of the Pista GP R has also been refined. The chin vent ports capture more air volume, and the top vents are made of aluminum to add strength to that area of the helmet. Inside, the perforated neck roll and updated materials offer a comfortable fit. An enhanced safety release system allows rescue workers to remove the cheek pads and neck roll before removing a rider’s helmet. The system is manufactured in-house at AGV. AGV has also fitted the Pista GP R with a hydration system developed in MotoGP. A Camelbak drinking valve can connect inside the chin, allowing a rider to easily take a drink. AGV designed the Pista GP R with racing in mind, while the Corsa R is a great track helmet that can also serve as a comfortable helmet for street riding. The Corsa R shares several improvements with the Pista GP R, including the 5mm visor, updated visor lock and rescue system. Several of the most notable improvements to the Corsa R are on the inside. The double-faced crown pad has one smooth side for warm weather rides, and one fleece side for cold weather. An updated interior structure has reduced noise by an impressive 29 percent over the previous Corsa model. At the same time, ventilation has been improved. ■

Innovative Designs for Racers
The Fusion 2.0 moto and ATV grips are designed to install easily and stay in place no matter how rough the action gets.
Risk Racing’s RR1 Ride-On Lift makes it easy for one person to get a dirtbike up on a stand for maintenance, repairs or storage.
J
ames Burry won some regional AMA titles as a motocross racer, but his real accomplishments have been off the track and on the job at Risk Racing. After starting small with just one product, Burry has grown Risk Racing into a full motocross shop that specializes in designing innovative products. Burry, who went to school for mechanical engineering and industrial design, was racing on the weekends while working as a product designer. He realized that his wife, who also raced, needed an easier way to get her bike onto a stand. Burry headed to the garage and produced the prototype of the RR1 Ride-On Lift, and other racers began asking for one. “While I was at work during the day, my wife was at home cutting and notching steel. I would then come home from my day job and weld into the night,” Burry said. Soon, Risk Racing was a full-time job. Looking back, Burry is glad he didn’t know what he was getting into. He said, “Had I truly known the challenges in building a company and a successful brand, I would have been too scared to actually do it. The part I did know was the design and manufacturing process, so that part came easy. It was the challenges of distribution, marketing, and everything else in between, that was simply an exercise of ‘sink or swim.’” Risk Racing handles everything in-house, including product design, packaging design, web design, videos, social media, and sales. “I am proud to say that we are a stable company with a steady growth history, and a lot of new projects in development for future growth,” Burry noted. Parts Unlimited distributes that very first product from Risk Racing, the RR1 Ride-On Lift. Ride or push a bike onto the lowered lift, and when the front tire touches the front plate, the lift rises to meet the bottom of the motorcycle frame. One step onto a foot pedal locks everything into place.

Your customers can practice their start times with the Holeshot Starting Gate. An LED light lets the rider know to get ready before the gate drops randomly between one and five seconds.
Another one of their products, the Holeshot Starting Gate, is a social media celebrity, showing up in pro riders’ videos of practice starts. The gate is attached wirelessly to a remote that mounts on the crossbar pad. After activation, a red LED lets the rider know to get ready, and the gate drops randomly between one and five seconds to simulate a race start. The Seal Doctor consistently gets top marks from motorcycle magazines. The tool cleans out fork seals, removing dirt that can cause leaks. The Lock-N-Load is one of Risk Racing’s best sellers. It holds a bike in a truck or trailer without any need for tie-down straps. Low-profile mounting plates keep the system in place. The premium Fusion 2.0 moto and ATV grips have a unique bonding system. Two bonding strips are applied to the bar, then sprayed with special Fusion Spray. The spray initially acts as a lubricant to make sliding the grips on easy, but it later dries to create a lasting bond. ■

raking has a long history of winning championships across all segments of racing — winning 110 World Championships to date — and the company has perfected the art of designing the right rotor for the right environment. The Batfly Aluminum Disc and Batfly S3 Disc are proof of that. The Batfly Aluminum rotor is designed for motocross and Supercross riders who need to shave every ounce possible off their motorcycles. On the other hand, the Batfly S3 is ideal for off-road competition, where riders need a rotor that can withstand frequent encounters with Mother Nature. The differences between the two rotors are the carrier and the construction. On the Batfly Aluminum, which has a fullfloating design, both the carrier and the six connecting rivets are constructed of aluminum for optimal weight savings. The Batfly S3, on the other hand, is a semi-floating design, connected to the outer ring in three areas directly and riveted in three areas. It has a stainless steel carrier that is

durable enough for off-road racing, but is narrow enough to reduce the chances of it being hit by tree stumps, rocks or other hazards. Braking’s Batfly design features grooves on the disc’s surfaces, which create a self-ventilating mechanism to cool down the rotor. The outside and inside of the disc’s diameter have a non-round design to allow for better radial expansion of the disc in extreme heat conditions. ■

Off-Road Clutch Upgrades

here’s probably no group tougher on clutches than dirtbike, ATV and UTV riders. So when it comes time for a replacement, and it always does, let your customers know they can swap out their OE parts for an upgraded option from Barnett. Barnett’s Dirt Digger clutch kits and billet clutch baskets are a great improvement over the OE setup.
Barnett’s Dirt Digger clutch kits, billet clutch baskets and billet pressure plates will pretty much make any off-road vehicle clutch bulletproof. The Dirt Digger kits come with Barnett’s exclusive carbon fiber or Kevlar friction plates, matched tempered-steel drive plates and heavy-duty springs that are 10 percent to 15 percent stronger than OE.
The aluminum baskets are CNC machined, and have replaceable stainless steel inserts to prevent grooving for smooth operation. The specially placed oil passages further increase oil flow for even cooler operation and longer life.
The kits deliver strong, positive engagement, and with Barnett’s segmented-design frictions, oil flow throughout the clutch is greatly increased for smooth, consistent performance and increased life. Applications cover all the popular bikes, ATVs and UTVs, they’re all reasonably priced and Parts Unlimited has them.
The billet pressure plates take durability one-step further. Aluminum with a tempered-steel surface, not only do they better dissipate heat, they’re guaranteed to never wear out. ■

Performance Brakes for ATV/UTV
D
P Brakes has expanded the lineup of its hardstopping and highly durable sintered-metallic brake pads. The range covers all the newest fourwheelers, including those from Arctic Cat, Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha, and Parts Unlimited has the full lineup. These machines are getting bigger, heavier and faster than ever. They’re putting added demands on braking performance and now DP has the upgrades for them all. DP performance is well known. Can-Am has even named DP as its official, factory-endorsed brake pad upgrade. Many racers have sung the praises of DP for years. Team Polaris UXC Racing’s Michael Swift, a longtime DP Brakessponsored rider has now crossed over to the UTV class and was impressed with DP performance on these machines. “What’s amazing here is that, along with the strong braking performance, I had 75 percent pad life still left after a race,” Swift said. “Before DP I couldn’t even finish a race on a set of stock pads.”
That sentiment is echoed throughout powersports. Pick a class in GNCC ATV/UTV competition, Pro XC1, 4x4 Pro, WXC Women, UTV XC1 Pro — many of the top finishers have switched to DP Brakes. Last year 16 of the top 20 pro riders were on DP. Not only do those pads perform flawlessly in challenging conditions, they’re non-abusive to the rotors, they’re quiet and they last up to three times longer than OE. ■

Keeping Those Batteries Healthy

hen it comes to selling lithium batteries, there are two important facts that every dealer should know.
The first: A lithium battery will discharge three times faster in a stored vehicle with a parasitic draw than the lead-acid battery it replaced. Even though it delivers higher cranking amps than the lead-acid battery, it does so with only around one-third the Amp-hour capacity. The second: A lithium battery drains faster than lead-acid when you’re idling at the lights or doing slow technical riding on your dirtbike or ATV. At low rpm a vehicle’s charging system delivers a lower voltage, sometimes high enough for lead-acid, but always too low for lithium. An AGM lead-acid battery is 100 percent charged at 12.8V, lithium only holds 10 percent charge at that same voltage! A lithium battery is fully charged at 13.6V or higher.
Lithium batteries need regular maintenance to perform strongly. OptiMate’s line of Lithium battery chargers will help restore a dead battery and keep it healthy.
