’m talking about the NVP Product Expo, of course. What makes the “NVP” work so well is its not just the most important motorcycle aftermarket business event of 2018, its also the first event of 2019. Yes, this is the show where the wraps come off of next year’s new products and new applications for all of the leading aftermarket brands. As of press time, there were more than 170 vendors signed up to display their latest wares and bring important information for anyone who sells their products. To make your time at the show as productive as possible, in this issue we feature an NVP Product Expo Preview starting on page 33. The story highlights just some of the many companies whose products are found in the Parts Unlimited catalogs and will be featured in Madison. Be sure to check them out, as well as learn about some of the other activities that will be going on there.
Every major product category will be featured in Madison, including the latest off-road four-wheel products. In this issue we also have a special ATV/UTV Market Overview Section with a spotlight on some of the hottest products in all the key categories – tires, exhaust, belts, winches, sound systems, brake pads, chains and more. Sales of ATVs and UTVs represent half the annual business in many dealerships and industry research studies show the category to be growing. As you make it around the displays at the Monona Terrace, be sure to have a look at the four-wheel off-road products. Your customers will thank you. ■ We look forward to seeing you in Madison.

NEWS EVENTS Laguna Seca Weekend DEALERS ENJOY RACING, VENDOR FACE-TIME
P
icture perfect weather. Great racing. Spectating trackside at one of this country’s legendary racing circuits. What a combination for a perfect weekend, and Parts Unlimited dealers had a great opportunity to enjoy all three in late June.
Parts Unlimited entertained dealers at its turn 5 VIP Hospitality at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, CA for Round 8 of the 2018 Motul FIM World Superbike Championship and MotoAmerica roadracing series. Qualifying dealers from all over the country received tickets for the weekend, as well as exclusive entry into the Parts Unlimited VIP Hospitality area. For this year’s event, Parts Unlimited invited participating co-sponsors to give in-depth product presentations. The lineup included Alpinestars, Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, and Yuasa. The weekend also included rider interviews, including a one-on-one with rider Jake Gagne, Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team and a session with the M4 Ecstar Suzuki Race Team. Presentations included everything from demonstrations of Alpinestars’ new Tech-Air personal airbag system to technical insight into Yuasa’s product line. “The dealers really appreciated the opportunity to learn about what’s new and trending in the industry,” says Parts Unlimited national sales manager Steve Weir. Following the presentations, the vendors and dealers were able to enjoy some valuable one-on-one conversations, the kind of crucial interaction that helps form strong relationships for years to come. Weir added that following the race weekend, several dealers participated in Pirelli’s annual Dealer Ride Day, taking the opportunity to navigate the track’s famous corkscrew. The weekend also included several drawings for dealers to win a chance to ride in the pace car, experience the exciting grid start and giveaways from the co-sponsors. ■

Parts Unlimited Welcomes New Sale Rep
P
arts Unlimited has named Mike Sidner as its newest sales rep for the South Central region covering West Texas.
Sidner rode his first bike, a dual-sport Yamaha TW200, at 18 and his passion for both sport and off-road riding has only grown since. That passion led to a career culminating in more than a decade in the motorcycle industry, including two years in sales, seven years in parts management and three years as the factory Honda Race Team parts coordinator. During his free time, Sidner is usually off-road, whether it’s on a dirtbike, UTV or mountain bike. He also enjoys riding sportbikes and spending time in the gym. ■

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Mees has nine wins out of 11 races for the season, placing him 4th of all time, just behind Jay Springsteen, Chris Carr and Scott Parker. class. Texter, who already holds the all-time win record for AFT Singles, was in third place at press time in the point standings after racking up four podiums, which include two second-place finishes. “It’s so cool. It’s so awesome to get Husqvarna their first win in American Flat Track. It’s a dream come true,” Texter said after taking the checkered flag. “It’s incredible to win Lima. Never in a million years would I imagine I’d win this race.”
As of press time the series was headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota, for back-to-back races as part of the world’s biggest biker party, the Sturgis Rally. Racers will square off August 5th for the Buffalo Chip TT, and then again on August 7th for the Harley-Davidson Black Hills Half-Mile. ■ Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties/Husqvarna rider Shayna Texter fought for her first victory of the season at Lima in the AFT Singles class, and landed Husky its very first American Flat Track win.
Current Grand National Champion Jared Mees is heading into the last stretch of the 2018 American Flat Track season with the throttle wide open. He rode his Indian Scout FTR750 to a win at the Lima Half-Mile, a victory that also completed a flat track Grand Slam.

Two days before the Born-Free weekend back in June, event organizers hosted a vintage dirt-track race inside an equestrian center east of Los Angeles. It was here that nearly 30 invited bike builders debuted their custom bikes for international media and adoring fans. On the Friday evening before Born-Free, Cook’s Corner – the legendary biker bar near Oak Canyon Ranch – and Show Class magazine, with help from Biltwell Inc., hosted a BornFree pre-party to keep the good times rolling.

4. Biltwell Inc. has been a vendor or sponsor at every Born-Free since the event's inception. The company’s helmets are practically the official headgear of this modern bike rider nation. 5. Ryan Mullion’s hot-pink British twin blew Born-Free bike judges’ minds with its show-winning paint. 6. Duane Ballard's Honda CB750 digger was among the custom creations on display from invited builders at this year's Born-Free. Old Japanese iron is well represented at what some people consider America's premier chopper show for old Harleys.
When the gates for Born-Free event opened, more than 8,000 bike riders and nearly 30,000 spectators converged for two days of two-wheel fun. The motorcycles at Born-Free always amaze, and this year was especially impressive. While the emphasis was on vintage custom American iron, metric fiends like invited builder Duane Ballard flew his Honda freak flag high with another stunning digger. Plenty of British and European machines were also in full force.
Just over 350 vendors displayed everything from mustache wax to Harley speed parts, while event sponsors Vans and Harley-Davidson hosted skateboard and motorcycle demos. Live music echoed across the canyon to create a vibe that truly resonates with the next generation of custom motorcycle aficionados. ■

Three Decades of Innovation Inside Saddlemen Luggage
Saddlemen’s luggage lineup is the result of thousands of miles of real-world testing, and from input by everyone from employees to customers.

very rider has had one of those “Aha!” moments, thinking of something clever that would make a great motorcycle product or feature. The team at Saddlemen has had plenty of those instances, and has turned those moments of inspiration into innovative products. The vast array of Saddlemen luggage has evolved from thousands of miles of riding, years of evolution and constant fine-tuning. And to say that Saddlemen has a vast array of luggage is no exaggeration, as one look at the Parts Unlimited catalogs will show. If there is a point on a motorcycle where a bag can mount, then Saddlemen has a piece of luggage for that exact spot. And, whatever style of riding a customer prefers, Saddlemen has a bag for them. luggage collection is created with the same diligence, thoughtfulness and quality. Although Saddlemen got its start in motorcycle seats – as the name implies – the company branched into luggage shortly thereafter. As each new line came out, Saddlemen found a way to make the next even better. Soft-sided bags were given a rigid frame so they would keep their shape even when empty. The mounting options expanded and organization aspects continued to make the luggage more convenient for riders. That constant evolution is what has helped Saddlemen become a major player in motorcycle luggage and, as co-founder David Echert says, getting out of their comfort zone to continue pushing into new territory has been a key factor, too.

SADDLEMEN
The design crew at Saddlemen are all riders so they know that luggage isn’t just for clothing and gear.
Saddlemen also has a full range of accessories specifically designed to keep its luggage more organized. Packing cubes and organizers help keep everything in its place while on the road.
The Saddlemen luggage range covers multiple vehicle segments, with several styles available. Whether your customer is a cruiser rider or a scooter commuter, there’s something for them in that lineup.
Many times, a bag joins the Saddlemen lineup simply because someone at the company has a need for it. Everyone on the management and design teams are riders themselves, and over the course of testing Saddlemen luggage and riding just for fun, they inevitably come up with notes about new styles, materials or features that will make the luggage better. Even customers get in on the process, making suggestions that find their way into Saddlemen bags. That process – real motorcyclists designing luggage for real motorcyclists – has helped Saddlemen incorporate a lot of functionality into each product. The result is a substantial collection of fully-featured products at a fair value. Understanding what riders need in luggage is one part of the process, and the other part is the ability to create superior products with all of those features. Because Saddlemen develops and manufactures its products
in-house, they are able to select all materials, determine the best construction processes and oversee every step of production. For Saddlemen, the process is simple – come up with an idea, develop it, manufacture it and then stand behind the warranty to ensure customer satisfaction. Dealers and customers alike can call, email or jump on social media to interact with Saddlemen staff, getting answers to questions quickly. Dealers can get plenty of Saddlemen luggage knowledge by chatting with a Saddlemen rep, and the company enjoys working handin-hand with dealers to ensure customers get exactly what they need. ■

t all started with an impromptu bicycle tire repair that led to the removable tire in 1891, the first in a long line of innovations that would become the cornerstone of Michelin’s success.
Now, 125 years later, Michelin is a sustainable mobility company with products and services that span all modes of transportation and sectors of hospitality. Michelin currently employs 114,000 people worldwide with offices and production facilities in 171 countries with 20,020 employees and 19 production facilities in the United States. Named as America’s Best Large Employer by Forbes Magazine for 2018, Michelin embraces diversity, supports local and national charities, invests in employee training, and recruits the highly qualified candidates. Michelin designs, manufactures and sells tires for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles and scooters. The company also embraces eco-friendly initiatives by producing tires that reduce energy consumption with sustainable materials. In addition to innovative patents and eco-friendly initiatives, the formula for producing tires that deliver added value begins with Michelin Total Performance™, a commitment to providing riders with products that deliver ever-increasing tire performance including wet
and dry grip, superb handling and stability, all without sacrificing riding pleasure or longevity. Examples of this commitment start with the Pilot Road series of tires that offer extraordinary wet grip performance with the introduction of sipes on Pilot® Road 3 tires, to three dimensional sipes built into Road 5 tires. Another example is the Pilot Power series that first introduced dual compounds in Pilot Power 2CT tires to the revolutionary ACT+ casing construction found in Power RS tires. This offers high levels of comfort, agility and enhanced feel during all phases of riding. The cruiser segment has embraced Michelin Total Performance for more than 8 years in the form of Commander® II tires, which offer one of the longest wearing tires in the industry along with a very sporty handling and excellent wet grip. There are fitments for a wide range of American and metric v-twin motorcycles. This commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed by an iconic motorcycle manufacturer. In 2007 Michelin was approached by Harley-Davidson to become an original equipment supplier. From this partnership, Scorcher® tires were born, and are currently factory-fitted on more than 40 percent of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. These tires are available through Parts Unlimited for metric dealerships that also service Harleys.
For Michelin, it all started with an impromptu bicycle tire repair that led to the removable tire in 1891. The company now makes tires for everything from airplanes and motorcycles to scooters and earthmovers.
Forbes Magazine named Michelin as America’s Best Large Employer for 2018. The company has 20,020 employees and 19 production facilities in the United States.

any in the Powersports industry know Star Tron® Enzyme Fuel Treatment, but few know Star brite, the company behind the product. Founded 45 years ago, Star brite is a leading manufacturer of cleaners, polishes, protectants, motor oils, fuel treatments, lubricants, sealants and much more.
Removing grime, stains, scratches and scuff marks is a snap with the Ultimate Magic Sponge. It can be used on motorcycles, luggage, vehicle interiors and other surfaces.
In recent years, Star brite brought products such as Bike Guard, Corrosion Blocker and Salt Off to the powersports market. For 2018, it is adding more standout products. Snap & Zipper Lube restores smooth action to metal or plastic zippers of jackets, gear bags, bike covers, riding jeans and other outdoor gear exposed to the elements and prone to damage. The non-toxic, non-staining formula can be applied directly to balky, older zippers or metal snaps. In addition to helping to ensure easy open/ close action, the formula helps prevent corrosion. The company’s Ultimate Fabric Guard is Gore-Tex safe and helps restore water-repelling action to all outdoor fabrics from bike covers to tarps, tents and riding gear. The formula contains special polymers that help protect against UV rays that can fade and damage fabrics. The new Ultimate Magic Sponge Scuff & Streak Remover pad is made of millions of micro-bubbled cleaning compounds. The Magic Sponge removes grime, stains, scuff marks and

more without scratching when lightly moistened and wiped across the surface. It can be used on bikes, ATVs, RV and truck interiors and around the home or shop. Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Star brite recently completed a major expansion of its manufacturing and distribution facility in Montgomery, AL, bringing it to 377,000 sq. ft. overall. Star brite is a prime manufacturer, utilizing the latest technology and ingredients to create products that get the job done without compromise. As an additional step to ensure quality and control costs, Star brite’s facility has blowmolding equipment to make the bottles used for their products. There are two major advantages to being a prime manufacturer that add value to every product. The first is that Star brite works directly with chemical companies, getting first access to the latest technology and ingredients directly from the source. Secondly, by avoiding third-party contact fillers, a layer of cost is avoided which allows Star brite to produce the best products at competitive prices. ■

Two-Stroke Power High-Performance Pistons
W
hile some may argue 4-strokes are still the engine of choice in many forms of professional racing, 2-strokes are alive and well in the powersports world.
Manufacturers are even supporting new 2-stroke development, with KTM releasing its TPi models, Yamaha releasing its new YZ65, and snowmobile manufacturers continuously evolving their 2-stroke engine platforms. All along the way, ProX Racing Parts has supported 2-strokes since the beginning, without falter. ProX 2-stroke pistons are hypereutectic cast aluminum alloy, which produces a piston with higher silicon content. This hypereutectic aluminum alloy of ProX 2-stroke pistons contains approximately 18 percent silicon, which means added strength and resistance to thermal expansion over forged parts. Heat creates big changes in pistons. A cold piston is a different shape than a piston at operating temperature. The higher silicon content of ProX cast 2-stroke pistons reduces the amount of material expansion, meaning shape change is lessened, which allows ProX pistons to be run at tighter clearances, translating to increased performance. While higher-silicon aluminum itself has better wear properties, many ProX 2-stroke pistons also come equipped with a skirt coating that will assist in piston break-in, allowing the piston to adjust to the cylinder without extra wear.

ProX 2-stroke pistons are built to OEM specifications, and are designed to provide increased performance and long-lasting wear.
Piston skirts aren’t the only part of the piston exposed to stress. Piston crowns and ring grooves can take a beating, as they are at the forefront of combustion, and are consistently exposed to excessive heat. This is why most ProX 2-stroke pistons feature anodized crowns. The anodizing creates a protective barrier over the aluminum, drastically improving its wear-resisting abilities. A common problem people may run into with 2-strokes is tuning. Improper jetting in a 2-stroke can lead to excessively high cylinder temperatures and detonation, which wreaks havoc on piston crowns and rings. Anodizing piston crowns and ring grooves has proven to significantly reduce the amount of wear on pistons from conditions like these. All ProX piston kits include the necessary piston, ring(s), wrist pin, and circlips, all in one box and under one part number. ProX 2-stroke pistons are available for many powersports machines, including dirtbikes, ATVs, snowmobiles and PWC. ■

Upgrades and Excellence Seven Decades of Success
For 70 years, Barnett has been a go-to source for cables and clutches for a wide range of motorcycles and powersports vehicles. Fitments cover vehicles from just about every OEM out there.
S
eventy years in business is something to celebrate. Seventy years in the motorcycle aftermarket is definitely an occasion to commemorate.
Barnett Tool & Engineering is spending 2018 doing exactly that. Charlie Barnett opened the doors to his Huntington Park, CA shop in 1948, and that small storefront quickly became a go-to source for riders looking for quality replacement cables and clutches for their motorcycles. Seventy years later nothing about that has changed. Nothing, that is, except the size of the company. Today Barnett’s cables and clutches are known and respected the world over and the product line covers virtually everything in motorsport on two wheels and four. Back in ’48 Charlie Barnett’s product line had what was needed for the popular British bikes of the era, HarleyDavidsons and Indians. Today, Barnett’s range of after market products covers motorcycles and powersports equipment in all segments, from just about every manufacturer out there. There are cables, clutch kits, clutch baskets, clutch springs, pressure plates and more for streetbikes, dirtbikes, motocross racers and all the popular ATVs and UTVs. The third generation now running this family-owned business makes sure that anyone getting anything with the Barnett name on it is getting high quality products. Everything is a directfit replacement upgrade with no compromises anywhere. Cables were a mainstay in the beginning and the Barnett cables of the 21st century would make Charlie proud. Stock or custom-length, Barnett cables are all an upgrade from OE and there is a huge range of applications and choices.

Charlie Barnett is the man who started it all, building a company that’s still going strong 70 years after he first opened the doors of his shop in Huntington Park, CA.
The line includes choices of traditional black vinyl cases, classic stainless-steel braid, and there’s a Platinum Series with a silver-plated braid and a black-on-black Stealth Series. Inside the cables there are strong stainless-steel wires, in many cases augmented with high efficiency nylon coating, and silicone lubed for a smooth pull and reduced effort. The company’s range of clutch products – clutch kits, springs, baskets, pressure plates, Scorpion kits and Dirt Digger components – also feature that same commitment to innovative quality. There are features like precisionmachined aerospace-grade aluminum and high-grade steel components, and baskets with replaceable stainless steel inserts to prevent grooving. Barnett was also a pioneer in introducing Kevlar friction material for motorcycle clutches and with the CF Series they introduced carbon fiber. ■

hampionship race teams like Honda HRC, Kawasaki KRT and Yamaha Monster Energy all fit their bikes with Vertex pistons. Manufacturers such as KTM, Husqvarna, Beta and Gas Gas turn to Vertex, as well for OE pistons. All of this is a testament to the performance of the high-quality pistons from this Italian company. Vertex closely collaborates with factories and race teams on
piston design, too, a partnership that allows them to build on their already outstanding dedication to quality and performance, and continue to bring those pistons to market at an affordable price. Vertex has new applications that include Replica, High Compression and GP Racer’s Choice pistons kits available for the 2016 - 2018 KTM 250 SX-F, the 2016 - 2018 Husqvarna FC250 and the 2018 Yamaha YZ 450F. They’re all available now, all include the forged piston, the rings, wrist pin and circlips, and Parts Unlimited has them. Forged from high-quality/aircraft-grade 4032 aluminum alloy with a slipper-skirt design, Vertex pistons are strong, lightweight and low-drag. They’re machined to exacting tolerances, heat treated with a T-6 hardening and tempering cycle and receive a Molybdenum Disulphide skirt coating for reduced wear and improved break-in. With an exact fit matching the cylinder bore perfectly, Vertex pistons maximize power and performance while reducing blow-by and oil consumption. All this is now available in Replica, High Compression and GP Racer’s Choice compression ratios for those new KTM, Husqvarna and Yamaha models. Along with all the features and attributes of a forged Vertex piston, the Replica Piston Kits for the KTMs and Husqvarnas come with a factory-stock compression ratio of 12.8:1. The High Compression and GP Racer’s Choice Kits up the ante with compression ratios of 14.6:1 and 14.5:1, respectively. They also come with an extra strong T-Box design, shot peened domes and Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated wrist pins for increased strength, performance and quality. Also new and in stock are the forged Vertex Replica, High Compression and GP Racer’s Choice piston kits for the 2018 Yamaha YZ 450F. This four-stroke bike, already a powerhouse, deserves something special for the topend and Vertex has delivered it. Notable here are the GP Racer’s Choice kits featuring a unique race-shape profile to go with the shot-peened dome.
Vertex has new applications of its Replica, High Compression and GP Racer’s Choice pistons for new model bikes from KTM, Husqvarna and Yamaha.
For more than 60 years Vertex pistons have been used and trusted by race teams and OEMs around the world. Vertex piston power, riders have found, can really offer a competitive advantage. ■

dventure riders ask a lot from their tires. Those tires have to be just as capable heading down a fire road as they are pounding out the miles on the pavement, in all weather conditions. When adventure is in the works, Bridgestone’s Battlax Adventure A41s fit the bill. Built to perform on multiple surfaces, in wet and dry weather and in hot and cold conditions, the Adventure A41s are tires made to go the distance. The tires are sized for mid- and large-size Adventure Touring bikes.
The tires were designed with an optimum level of pressure distribution across its enhanced, oversized contact patch. All this combines into a high level of traction in a variety of conditions and surfaces, whether that road is freshly paved smooth or rough and ready. The A41s strike an elusive balance between flexibility and rigidity, between on-road performance and off. The

Adventure Touring riders are bound to find themselves in a mix of conditions while out riding. The Bridgestone Battlax A41 is designed to perform superbly in all of them.
Built for Adventure riders, the Battlax A41s are designed to perform on multiple surfaces, in wet and dry weather and in hot and cold weather.
For the A41, Bridgestone started from scratch and designed them to include a host of Adventure-oriented features. For overall stability there’s Monospiral Belt (MSB) Construction for a high level of contact feel and grip, rider feedback and enhanced overall handling.
compounding and tread patterns serve up confidence, grip and feel, both straight-up or leaned through the corners. To ensure high-speed stability the A41 rears have large tread blocks in the center area along with those tread pattern groove angles for even more water displacement.
The A41 features multi-compounding – 3LC on the front, and 3LC plus a cap-and-base configuration on the rear – for low-temperature/wet-weather performance. This emphasis on water displacement and low-temperature performance means cold, wet conditions or sudden rainstorms won’t be a worry. And all this comes with no sacrifice in tread wear. Bridgestone made sure to include an aggressive and carefully engineered tread pattern.
Tires are important for Adventure Touring riders, and the Battlax Adventure A41s gives them a wide selection from which to choose. There are 16 sizes available – seven fronts ranging from a 90/90-21 to a full selection of 17inch, 18-inch and 19-inch sizes up to a 120/70. Nine rear tire sizes range from a 130/80-17 to a big 190/55. They’re all available now and Parts Unlimited has them. ■

Introducing Automag Simple but Bold Designs Automag gloves
The Automag 2 features Icon’s Sport Fit, which has pre-curved arms and is loose enough to provide movement without being baggy or bulky. It’s ideal for a rider who likes an aggressive riding position but doesn’t always feel the need to tuck in behind the windscreen. In addition, arm straps let a rider adjust the sleeves to reduce wind flap.
I
con says that the Automag 2 jacket and Automag gloves are proof that simple can be bold, and it is safe to say that both pieces of new gear were designed to be an aggressive sportbike fashion statement. It’s one of the things Icon does best. The Automag 2 jacket comes in four colors, red, green, gray and blue, but one look at the jacket shows that black is the dominant color – a common Icon theme. The textile chassis is durable on its own, but Icon added ballistic nylon paneling in the impact zones for an extra layer of toughness against abrasion. Tucked behind all of that are the removable D3O impact protectors, including the back, elbows and shoulders. Climate control options for hot days include dual zipper vent cuffs as well as front and back zipper vents so cool air gets in while the hot air gets pushed out. When the weather gets a bit chilly, a removable quilted full-length liner keeps the cold out without disrupting the fashion statement.

The matching Automag glove hits at the wrist to provide a lightweight but sturdy complement to the Automag 2 jacket. The D3O knuckle inserts are bolstered by fused knuckle enhancements for an added dose of asphalt resistance. Accordion flex zones ensure optimum performance while maintaining fit and flexibility, and social media junkies – or someone who just wants to make an old-fashioned phone call – will be pleased by the touchscreen-enabled index finger and thumb. Like the Automag 2 jacket, the Automag glove has plenty of black for a stealth look. Rebuild in a Box Garage Buddy Kits
S
o, the time has come for an engine rebuild. Hopefully it’s being done as a practice of proper maintenance, but for many it will be because of an engine failure.
A full engine rebuild requires a laundry list of parts to think about, including bottom end bearings and seals, a crankshaft assembly, piston, rings, clips, wristpin, and the array of gaskets required for reassembly. The trouble many people run into is finding the balance between sourcing quality parts for their rebuild while staying budget friendly. Wiseco Garage Buddy engine rebuild kits are exactly as the name implies, the buddy your customer wants to have in his or her garage who has everything necessary for an engine rebuild. Garage Buddy engine rebuild kits come with all of the parts needed to rebuild the bottom and top end, plus an hour meter – complete with a specific Garage Buddy decal – to track critical maintenance intervals and maintain a limited warranty on your motor’s new components. THE KITS INCLUDE: • Wiseco crankshaft assembly • OEM quality main bearings • Top and bottom-end gaskets, seals, and O-rings • Wiseco standard series forged piston kit (piston, ring(s), pin, clips) • Small end bearing (2-stroke kits) • Cam chain (4-stroke kits) • Hour meter with mounting bracket and hour meter decal

oose Racing continues to roll out new gear to keep off-road riders outfitted from head to toe. The M1.3 boots are an updated take on Moose Racing’s popular M1 boot line, while the all-new F.I. Session helmet has some high-tech design with MIPS technology. The Synapse Lite Deflector is designed to deflect debris without being hot and bulky. Dealers at the NVP Product Expo in Madison can get a hands-on demo with the new products by stopping by the Moose Racing booth. The M1.3 boots are the next step in the evolution of the M1 boot line. Moose Racing developed them for the whole family to use when riding off-road, with options available in adult, youth and child sizing. The chassis is constructed with polyurethane-coated synthetic leather that is both abrasion resistant and flexible. On the inner calf, a heavyweight suede leather guard improves abrasion and heat resistance. The shin, ankle and footplates have reinforced panels, which are engineered to improve stability without sacrificing mobility.

Inside, soft foam reinforces impact areas and provides cushioning comfort, while a rigid steel shank-reinforced sole eliminates foot flexing and provides superior foot support. An integrated internal lace loop system keeps the boots firmly in place while the polyester inner lining wicks moisture, adds comfort and dries quickly. As for the design of the M1.3 boots, the low-profile compact toe box improves brake feel and the ability to shift. The multi-layer synthetic rubber outsole will last a long time while providing superior grip. Off-road riders who need to protect their heads as well as their feet can opt for the new F.I. Session helmet from Moose Racing, which comes with DOT and ECE approval. The big news about the F.I. Session is that it is equipped with MIPS technology. MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System. The MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) features what is called a low-friction layer between the shell and the liner of the helmet. If a rider crashes and the helmet hits the ground at an angle, the low-friction layer allows a slight sliding motion in all directions.

The Synapse Lite Deflector is built for comfort, while providing ample coverage on the front and back.
This sliding reduces the rotational motion that is transmitted to the brain during impact. In short, MIPS BPS technology is designed to help reduce rotational motion to a rider’s head by absorbing the energy itself. As for the rest of the F.I. Session helmet, it starts with an injection-molded polycarbonate shell that is lightweight, compact and strong. A multi density EPS liner further adds to the impact absorption capabilities of the helmet. There are two shell sizes and two EPS sizes, which are all engineered to provide an optimal fit. An extra-large eye port means that a rider has an excellent field of vision with the F.I. Session helmet. The nose guard provides plenty of coverage from roost, but riders who prefer a “less is more” approach can easily remove the nose guard. Up above the eye port, the unique friction hinge visor is easy to adjust while still staying securely in place during a ride. The F.I. Session helmet beats the heat with nine intake and three exhaust vents, which are connected via internal air channels for excellent ventilation. The liner and cheek pads inside the helmet are fully removable for easy
washing and drying, and they are made of a moisturewicking fabric to keep moisture from building up. Another new piece of gear from Moose Racing is the Synapse Lite Deflector. It is designed for maximum ventilation and comfort while providing ample coverage on the front and back. Adjustable shoulder straps ensure a customized fit. When it is time to take the rig off, compact quick-release buckles make it easy to remove without undoing the strap adjustments. The Synapse Lite Deflector has a mesh suspension lining system, which is designed to create large air channels between the Synapse Lite Deflector and the rider for excellent air circulation and comfort. The Biofoam padding at main contact points increases the comfort factor, and it is made of a durable moisture-resistant material to make cleaning easy, too. ■

ATV/UTV Market Overview
S P O RT F O U R-W H EELERS O N T H E R I S E
Take a look at page after page of products in that 2018 Parts Unlimited ATV/UTV catalog and you’ll see the clearest evidence that four-wheeler sales are an economic powerhouse for the business. From coast to coast, the UTV market is booming. Whether it’s enthusiasts blasting through the dunes in the southwest, hunters going deep into the woods in the Midwest, or everyday folks hauling equipment or plowing snow just about everywhere, today’s huge range of four wheelers are the vehicle of choice.
Whether it’s racing, recreation or ranches, a four-wheeler can come in handy.
In fact, the North American UTV market in 2017 grew by 4.7 percent to 466,434 units according to figures compiled by Minneapolis-based research firm Power Products Marketing (PPM). That market encompasses a broad spectrum of vehicles, from Pure Utility Vehicles used for mostly utilitarian purposes to the Super Sport Vehicles such as the Polaris RZR 1000 or Yamaha YXZ1000R.

(Top) Bassani has performance exhaust systems for the Polaris RZR 1000 and 900. (Right) Many consumers recognize that UTVs are versatile workhorse machines built for tough jobs.
It’s the latter, those Super Sport four-wheelers, that are increasingly popular among thrill-seeking consumers. According to PPM, those go-fast UTVs have grown to comprise more than 16 percent of the total market. On the working side of things, where consumers want some function with their fun, the more utility-minded vehicles like the Honda Pioneer models and the Kawasaki Mule PRO-FXT/FX range – what PPM calls Utility Crossover Vehicles – have grown to account for about 45 percent of the market over the past five years. It’s quite apparent, that no matter what consumers are looking for in a UTV, the OEMS have a vehicle to fit the bill. At Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino, CA, UTV sales make up about half of the dealership’s overall vehicle sales, says Andy Anaya, vehicles sales manager. Given the store’s proximity to the wide open Southern California desert, it’s no surprise that strongest segment of those sales is the sport market. Anaya attributes the strong UTV market to the fact that they serve as the “family start-up segment” for getting people into the powersports life. “A family only needs one unit typically and a way to haul it if it’s a family of four,” Anaya says. “If they were going to get into ATVs or motorcycles, they would need to buy four motorcycles or four ATVs and a way to haul them, plus gear, just to start up.”
On average, most consumers easily add on $1,000 to $2,000 in aftermarket products before they roll away. Anaya adds that some of the strong selling trends right now are light bar, whip antenna and wheel packages. It’s that aftermarket where one can really see the strength of the UTV market, and by all accounts, UTVs are going gangbusters. Not only are traditional four-wheeler vendors like Moose Utility Vehicles continuously pumping out new products, but non-endemic brands such as Bassani Xhaust and Klock Werks are also jumping into the mix. According to Kyle Phillips, product development specialist at Moose Utility Division, the company sees a strong demand for a range of parts for a variety of UTV models and segments, mostly depending on geography. “The popularity of products depends on where you live,” Phillips says. “The west coast is more RZR/sport oriented and the Midwest is more utility-use based. We offer a broad range to serve all customers.” Open that ATV/UTV catalog and you’ll find everything from snow plows, lighting, roofs, windshields and cab
As most dealers know, once that sale is made, they’ve got the promise of a customer returning for service, consumables, parts and accessories. In most cases, according to Anaya, those new UTV units don’t leave the dealership bone stock. More versatile than bigger working equipment, many ATVs and UTVs see double-duty as work machines and play vehicles.

enclosures, to wheel/tire kits, body parts, luggage and hunting accessories. The company even offers a big line of service items such as wheel bearings, carb repair kits, axles and drive belts. For the performance mind, there is also a Moose Utility Division branded Power Commander FC from Dynojet.
Traditionally known as a V-twin-oriented company, Klock Werks jumped into the UTV market with its Flare windshield and a range of parts.
How popular is the market? Big enough to attract the exhaust giant Bassani Xhaust, which now has performance systems for Polaris’ RZR 1000 and RZR 900. The company officially jumped into the segment in 2017, but Bassani is no stranger to dirt. Its history in off-road goes back to the race-winning pipes Darryl Bassani and company were making back in the ’70s and ‘80s. “We recognized the need for these vehicles … to have a high-performance exhaust system,” says Gary Naito, Bassani’s advertising manager. “It seemed a natural fit for us to meet the needs of these vehicles, and try to wet our feet with the RZR first.” Naito points out that there is even some crossover between a typical Bassani customer and the new UTV buyer, with some running Bassani products on all their vehicles from two wheels to four. “The brand recognition from other platforms definitely helps us,” he says. “Some times even two or three generations of guys will tell us they only run our pipes.”
While UTVs are booming in popularity, ATVs are still being enjoyed by racers, riders and anyone looking or a good time on four wheels.
The company has since branched out to offer side- and rear-view mirrors, sun visors, fire extinguisher mounts and grab handles to name a few. “We feel that it is a very important market segment,” Cheeseman says. “One would have to be blind to not see the growth and potential of this market.” He adds that it keeps the company diversified from a sales perspective and from a product design angle. With the continuing growth of the UTV market, Cheeseman says he also sees crossover with customers from the traditional V-twin side of things and from its growing UTV product line. “In fact, it’s not uncommon at all to see a large number of UTVs rolling around at the mother of all bike rallies, Sturgis!” he says, explaining that the vehicles are street legal in the state. With a diversified product range like this, the Parts Unlimited catalogs are your go-to source for everything from replacements service parts and upgrades for those stock components, to performance parts that’ll quicken the pace wherever your customers are riding. There’s even a good chance that two-wheel customer who just walked in the door also has a four-wheeler waiting at home for the weekend to roll around. “The ATV/UTV market is very strong and growing,” says Moose Utility Division’s Kyle Phillips. “Everyone can use these machines for work and for fun, all year long.” ■
SPECIAL SECTION/ UTV
One other company with deep roots in the street market — most notably the custom V-twin scene —that’s found success with UTVs is Klock Werks. The South Dakotabased company has taken its popular Flare windshield for Harley-Davidson Touring models, and developed a version for the Polaris RZR.
It all started after company CFO/COO Dan Cheeseman bought his first RZR and wasn’t happy with the stock windshield. “I felt that the dust gathering/swirling in the driver compartment was something that could be improved,” he says.

Stainless Steel Slip-Ons for the RZR 900
Tucked up inside the back of a Polaris RZR 900, Bassani’s new Performance Exhaust System promises a boost in power and a throaty, yet sweet, exhaust note.
F
ollowing up on last year’s introduction of a power-packed, great looking, great sounding slip-on muffler for the Polaris RZR 1000 models, Bassani Xhaust has announced the availability of a performance-replacement exhaust system for the equally popular RZR 900. Once again completely crafted from stainless steel and a direct replacement fit, the new RZR 900 Performance Exhaust System (p/n 1831-0764) works on all the 2015 through 2017 RZR 900s, 900 XCs, the RZR S 900 and the RZR 4 900. The RZR 900 Performance Exhaust System has a lot to offer starting with that tough, long-lasting and good-looking stainless steel construction. The Bassani Performance Exhaust System uses the RZR 900’s stock mounting system, which means installation should be quick and trouble free. All the flanges are formed to fit with, and use, stock gaskets, while the contour and shape of the whole system means that your customers can use all the stock Polaris springs and bolts.

Then there’s everything the Performance Exhaust System does for the way RZR 900 will run and sound. Designed and tuned for a significant improvement over stock in the horsepower and torque departments, the RZR 900 Performance Exhaust System serves up a wide, usable and rider-friendly powerband. Bassani knows that along with all that improved performance, your customers are also after a sweet exhaust tone. This system’s sound level is the same as stock at idle, however there’s a tone that’s deeper and throatier overall without being obnoxious. As for the included details and features, Bassani has supplied an inlet-pipe heatshield that has an18mm O2 fitting to allow for the installation and use of any number of aftermarket devices. There are 12mm O2 sensor reducerbushings included, as well. Assembled and welded together with obvious pride of craftsmanship the RZR 900 Performance Exhaust System is a quality piece on all counts. There are good looks, longlasting stainless steel materials, enhanced performance, just the right tone and, with an MSRP of $550, all of it is coming at the right price. ■

UTV Flare Windshield Kits Wind Management for Polaris RZRs

nown for providing stellar wind management and driver/passenger comfort, the Klock Werks Flare Windshield is a popular addition for many metric and V-twin cruiser and touring motorcycle riders. Well, that South Dakota-based company is now offering those same performance and comfort improvements to your customers with 2014 to current model year Polaris RZRs. We’re talking an improved ride for all the models of that popular UTV. Re-defining what a UTV quarterwindshield can be, the Klock Werks Flare and its unique flip design re-directs all the wind and debris Klock Werks brings its popular Flare windshield technology to the sideby-side world. Now Polaris RZR owners can enjoy the spectacular wind management protection from dust and debris that they provide.
Designed for easy installation and sized for an exact fit, the kit comes with patented Axia Alloys detach clamp hardware sized to the stock Polaris cage tubing at 1¾-inches. There are also clamp sizes in 1½-inches, 1.85-inches or 2-inches. The clamps are black-anodized billet aluminum with thumbscrews that secure the windshield to the clamps, allowing for quick, tool-less windshield removal whenever the need arises.
up and away so only clean, less-turbulent air get into the cabin. On a UTV it’s a game changer. The problems with ordinary UTV windshields are well known. Short quarter-windshields do little to control the wind and debris blast, taller or full windscreens become useless once they’re coated with dirt and mud. None of that happens with the Klock Werks UTV Flare. Because a driver looks over the UTV Flare, it delivers all its wind and debris protection without ever sacrificing the ability to see. Made from hard-coated polycarbonate, the same material used in bulletproof windows, the Flare Windshield is tough and virtually indestructible. It’s available in three shades: Clear, Tint, and Dark Smoke.

Tested to rave reviews, the Klock Werks UTV Flare not only does its amazing job of funneling wind, dust and debris up and over driver’s and passenger’s heads for increased comfort and visibility, that unique flip design also dramatically reduces turbulence and dust inside the cab. All of this protection and comfort is available at any speed, whether or not the windshield is squeaky clean or completely coated in mud. Speaking of squeaky clean, because the UTV Flare’s polycarbonate is hard-coated on both sides, the windshield won’t scratch or dull over time. It cleans up with mild soap and water, or for a quick touchup use Klock Werks Shine Werks Windshield Cleaner. ■

WINCHES
Which Winch?
New Winches for Work and Play
At this year’s NVP Product Expo, Moose Utility Division is releasing a trio of winches made in the USA by Warn for ATVs and UTVs.
M
oose Utility Division will have new parts and accessories for dealers to check out at the NVP Showcase in Madison, and the highlight of the company’s latest releases is a trio of Moose Utility Division winches made by Warn for ATVs and UTVs. Designed to combine performance and value while providing a platform for both work and trail usage, the new lineup of winches includes 2,500 lb., 3,500 lb. and 4,500 lb. capacities, each with a lot of versatility for vehicle applications as well as tasks. Each of the winches features durable all-metal construction. The three-stage planetary gear train is also completely constructed of metal for smooth, reliable performance that is extremely durable. The robust new clutch design is based on the distinctive Warn 4WD hublock design, with more than 70 years of Warn’s 4WD experience behind its engineering. In addition, the load-holding brake offers premium control for added confidence when the winch is put to use. The winch stays thoroughly dry inside thanks to extreme waterproof sealing, while on the outside, a black powder-coated finish offers corrosion resistance to make sure the winch can go anywhere the ATV or UTV it is attached to can go.
Moose Utility Division’s winches all come with an included rocker switch, 50 feet of rope and a zinc-plated hook. The 2,500 lb. and 3,500 lb. versions have handlebar rocker switches, while the 4,500 lb. capacity winch has a dash rocker switch plus a handheld remote switch. The 2,500 lb.-capacity winch is the Warn VRX 25, which offers premium quality at a reasonable price and is ideal for smaller ATVs. The 3/16-inch diameter rope is steel, but customers can also opt for the VRX 25-S version, which has a synthetic rope. The 3,500 lb.-capacity Warn VRX 35 and 35-S winches are best suited to ATVs or smaller UTVs. Like its smaller counterpart, the S version has a synthetic rope. Whether it is steel or synthetic, both ropes have a 7/32-inch diameter. With 4,500 lbs. of capacity, the Warn VRX 45 and 45-S are designed for the biggest, hardest-working UTVs in powersports. The steel and synthetic ropes are ¼-inch in diameter for durable winching capabilities, even in challenging conditions. In addition to the new lineup of ATV and UTV winches, dealers can also check out other new Moose Utility Division parts at the NVP Product Expo. Among them are a battery isolator kit and high-performance ball joints, so stop by their display to learn more. ■

rive belts live in harsh conditions. They must withstand 1,000 pounds of tension while spinning at over 10,000 rpm and transmitting nearly 170 hp – all in a 200-degree environment.
Specializing in drive belts for the powersports industry, Timken Belts recently introduced its latest offering of Ultimax® Belts by Timken designed specifically for today’s high-powered ATVs and side-by-side vehicles.
Dayco introduced the Ultimax brand name in 1988 via a revolutionary new snowmobile belt built with aramid cord. In 2001, Carlisle Companies, Inc. acquired Dayco’s industrial belt division, taking with it the Ultimax product line as well as its research & production facility. The Timken Company acquired the belt business from Carlisle in 2015, and today Timken Belts is a major supplier of OE snowmobile and ATV/sideby-side drive belts. With more than 15,000 employees operating from 33 countries, the Timken Company engineers, manufactures and markets a spectrum of power transmission products. ■

BMP extensively tests all of its offerings on the dyno and in the field to ensure that customers get the most performance possible. Development of the all-new BMP Big Mo exhaust system was no exception. Designed for high-performance side-by-sides like the Polaris RZR XP Turbo, Can Am Maverick X3, Yamaha YXZ 1000 and Textron Wildcat XX, development of the Big Mo – available as a slip-on muffler or full system – took about 12 months from concept to production. “What we do here is create the concept, design, fit, modify, test for sound and performance, adjust to maximize

UTV Tunes
The Universal Element Audio System
M
etrix Audio entered the world of UTV audio this year with the Element line. Representing two years of research and development, the Element line is a complete UTV audio kit that includes speakers, an amplifier and a snap-in Bluetooth receiver/controller. Metrix Audio, part of the family of audio brands that includes Hogtunes and Wild Boar Audio, designed the new UTV products to have a universal fit as well as appeal for all types of UTV usage.
Metrix Audio’s Element 1 speakers can be mounted behind or in front of the driver, and provide clear, optimal sound.
The Element 1 speakers have an oval shape that measure 5x7 inches. That shaping allows the speakers to be mounted in front of the driver for optimal sound, but the oval profile is slim enough that it keeps the driver’s line of sight clear. The Element 1 speakers are sold in pairs (p/n 4405-0505), and the included clamps will fit 1½-inch to 2-inch roll bars. The strong metal mesh grill guards against debris, and the entire package is extremely weather resistant. Metrix Audio’s designers know that the point where speaker cabinets mount to the frame tend to be a weak spot, so the Element 1 speakers were designed with a steel plate running through the cabinet. It is a part of the mounting system, adding stability and strength. The Element line also includes the Element X amplifier (p/n 4405-0504), a UTV-specific amplifier that produces 150 Watts of power when running one pair of speakers. The amp features low-level input, high-level input, adjustable gain and fully adjustable crossover for low-pass, high-pass or all-pass. That means the Element X is extremely flexible for audio applications, including subwoofers. The Element X has a grooved cast aluminum housing that acts as a barrier against the elements, including wet weather. The Element X has two sets of speaker wires coming out of it, so a second set of speakers can be added at any time. With two sets of speakers plugged directly into the amplifier, the Element X jumps from 150 to 250 Watts of power.
The Element X amplifier is rugged and durable, and designed to produce 150 Watts of power when running one pair of speakers.
The entire Element setup is available as the UTV 1 kit (p/n 4405-0503). In addition to a pair of Element 1 speakers and the Element X amplifier, the kit also includes a snapin Bluetooth receiver/controller. Since most UTV dashes have a common opening, the receiver is designed to snap into that vacant space. Music can be played wirelessly, and a knob on the front of the receiver controls volume, track selection and play/pause functions. The receiver also includes an auxiliary-in port for plugging in devices like a GPS or satellite radio, so the system can switch between the wireless and the wired feeds. The high-quality Bluetooth chip in the receiver ensures excellent sound reproduction.
The Bluetooth controller/receiver snaps in to the common opening on most UTV dashboards.
The UTV 1 kit includes absolutely everything necessary for installation, including all of the wiring and zip ties. ■

Drive Chains for High-Powered ATVs

F
rom the three wheel balloon beasts of yesteryear to today’s high performance sport quads, there have been many drastic changes to ATV design and performance throughout the years.
Chains designed for ATVs have also drastically changed over the years. Today’s ATV chains need to handle the increased torque output of moving two rear wheels as opposed to one wheel like on a motorcycle. This increased torque load can put added stress on the chain depending on the engine load, the terrain and even the tire features. RK Chain has created chain models suitable for use with all ATVs and riding conditions. 520EXW One of RK Chain’s most popular ATV rated chain is the 520EXW. This is an XW-Ring sealed chain and is a high-speed, extreme heat performance ATV chain. RK’s XW-Ring seals utilize triple barrier grease protection plus anti-debris technology. This anti-debris protection is vitally important to maximize chain wear-life by eliminating debris friction between internal components. The EXW was designed to handle ATV swingarm movement and increased torque stresses, and wears longer than stock. EXW chains also feature special thermal-crack resistant sideplates. Thermal cracking can result from debris or components impeding the chain’s movement. The impingement causes the chain to quickly heat up and cool down in rapid succession. Over time this thermal exposure can reduce the strength of the chain and/or cause a chain failure. It is vitally important to check your bike after a crash to make sure no debris or bike components are in contact with the chain.

From Stock Cars to Supercross Performance Parts for Off-Road Racing
With CV Racing’s CV4 radiator caps and silicone hose kits, your customers can give their dirtbikes’ cooling systems a boost in efficiency and performance.
S
tock car racing is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about aftermarket powersports parts. Nevertheless, that’s exactly where CV Racing/Xceldyne got its start and still has strong ties.
The smoothness of the hoses allows more coolant to move through the entire system. In addition, CV4 hoses provide better flow than the OEM hoses, resulting in more efficient cooling and less horsepower loss. The CV4 Y kit eliminates the connecting Y brackets, which are prone to breakage.
For Parts Unlimited dealers, what counts is that the company produces high-performance valve train components for off-road applications. Valves, seats, buckets, retainers, high-pressure radiator caps and silicone hose kits are among the parts manufactured by CV Racing/ Xceldyne. The company provides valves to some of the top teams in Supercross and motocross, including JGRMX Factory Suzuki and Star Racing Yamaha. CV Racing/Xceldyne has been in business for more than 30 years, and over 15 years ago the company parlayed their knowledge of NASCAR and stock car racing into offroad motorcycles. The result is the CV4 family of products, which are all designed for premium performance and efficiency. Among the CV4 products now available through Parts Unlimited are high-pressure radiator caps and silicone hose kits. The CV4 radiator caps are designed to increase the boiling point of the coolant to increase the pressure. By maintaining a higher coolant pressure inside the radiator, the entire system can transfer heat more effectively from the cylinder heads. The radiator caps are really popular in racing, and are used by a wide range of factory racing teams, including the Husqvarna off-road team, JGRMX Suzuki and Star Racing Yamaha. Similarly, the CV4 silicone hose kits are designed to factory racing-level quality, with attention given not only to providing critical performance gains but also to aesthetics. CV4 hoses are made from pure silicone rubber that stays pliable and resilient.

Replacement Parts for Racers
Cycra’s Eclipse handguards not only provide riders with an optimal amount of coverage, they also protect the master cylinders and guard the brake and clutch levers in the event of a crash.

f it is made of plastic and goes on a dirt bike, then Cycra probably has it. The company is quick to note that its parts are not stock replicas, but unique Cycra products – and Parts Unlimited has plenty of them ready to ship. One of the latest innovative products from Cycra can be spotted while looking down the line at the starting gate. Cycra Eclipse handguards combine high quality plastic with unique bracket construction and vented shields. Designed for a perfect fit, the handguards include master cylinder covers that protect the hydraulic brake and clutch. Also, the guards can provide cover for the brake and clutch levers in a first-turn pile up. One of the main functions of any handguard is to keep debris off the rider’s hands, and the Eclipse shields give the racer the optimal amount of coverage. Created for the latest KTM and Husqvarna models, the Cycra handguards offer fit, style and protection.
Racers and riders who need to outfit their bike with more than just the Powerflow radiator shroud can opt for the Cycra Complete Powerflow body kit. Cycra describes the kits as factory components at privateer pricing.
The company already supplies the kits to teams like Babbitt’s Monster Kawasaki, GEICO Factory Honda and JGRMX Suzuki. Each kit includes a Stadium front number plate, performance front fender, Powerflow radiator shrouds, side number panels, fork guards and Powerflow rear fender. All Powerflow components are molded from high-quality plastic. The features and benefits coupled with high value pricing combine for an attractively priced package for privateer racers.
REPLACEMENT PLASTICS
Patented Plastic
Cycra builds and produces its high-quality injectionmolded plastic components in a factory in Thomasville, NC. Co-founders Ken and Glen Laivins have been heading up Cycra for more than 20 years now, and the company works extensively with high-level off-road, motocross and Supercross teams. ■

The Cycra motto: Never Stock, Never Replica, is reflected in the company’s patented Powerflow™ radiator shrouds. Cycra designers incorporated air intakes into each side of the radiator shroud. These patented scoops draw air behind the radiator, causing a bypass low-pressure situation. The low pressure allows the radiator to flow air more effectively, which of course creates an efficient system that keeps the engine running at optimal temperatures. The top outer edge of each shroud incorporates a wider, turned corner and extended leading edge that keep racers’ boots from snagging on the shrouds. These unique features make the Powerflow radiator ideal for off-road and motocross competitors.
Cycra also offers Powerflow radiator shrouds, and complete Powerflow body kits are designed to be a tremendous upgrade over the stock plastic on off-road and motocross bikes.

.W. Speaker wants riders to see well and for dealers to sell well. Those aspects are at the heart of the company’s Adaptive Headlight display program, which lets dealers show off the company’s high-tech lighting with an attractive, informative counter display unit. Dealers only need to place a single Parts Unlimited order of three eligible lamps in order to receive the premium counter display at no charge. While the dealer can choose the combination of lamps, one of them must be a round 7-inch Adaptive 2 Series headlamp to mount in the display. The display is a sales tool for showing off the technology behind the Adaptive Series lights. The LED headlights are “adaptive” because they know when a rider is leaning or turning and they dynamically adjust the light accordingly. The intelligent design helps to eliminate darkened spots when cornering. The targeted LED beam shines directly where a rider needs it to see their way through corners. The unique lights will be further explained and demonstrated for customers via an included small LED screen pre-loaded with a video that discusses the technology inside the Adaptive Series lights and shows on-road footage. The display also comes with literature so customers have something to take home with them. “We have designed these displays to be stand-alone, dedicated J.W. DeVol’s popular range of lowering links are stronger than stock and provide improved front-end stability and handling.
A
s motocross grew in the late 1970s, it caught the attention of a young metal fabricator with a need for speed and a love for innovation. In 1980, the owner and founder of DeVol Racing, Ted DeVol, took the leap of his life at 22 years old and started his business out of his small one-car garage in West Seattle, WA. The initial years were tough on his family, but passion, tenacity and sacrifices (repairing fish buckets on the side) drove the business upward. Ted and his family held onto the American dream of building something from nothing and turning it into success. In the 1980s and 1990s, DeVol Racing was a big player in aftermarket aluminum alloy motorcycle products. New ideas to improve the performance of a race bike to give the rider a competitive edge fueled Ted’s passion. Some of the first products Ted made were pipe guards, front and rear master cylinder guards, an aluminum linkage system and radiator guards. Today DeVol Engineering, Inc. has grown to become a fullfledged in-house manufacturer of aluminum components, producing both sheet and billet aluminum products for offroad motorcycle applications. With steady growth each year, DeVol is constantly refining its manufacturing processes and adding/upgrading CNC technology for increased productivity, product accuracy and quality.
DeVol’s skid plates provide a strong layer of protection for a motorcycle, even under the toughest racing and riding conditions. The lightweight skid plate is made of a highgrade aluminum alloy and has an extremely strong mounting system to make sure is stays in place during a ride. The plate protects the frame rail, rear cross member, water pump and oil pump, but venting slots and oil drainage holes ensure proper engine function.
COMPANY PROFILE
Tenacity and Trick Parts
DeVol radiator guards provide another sturdy barrier against impacts. Like the skid plates, the radiator guards are lightweight, but strong, thanks to high-quality aluminum construction. The guards mount to the frame, not the radiator, for maximum stability, and they are designed for premium airflow so the radiator can perform its job. Among DeVol Engineering’s most popular products are lowering links. The links are stronger than stock, but they also enhance the riding experience by improving frontend stability and handling. At any speed, the bike’s rear end will track straighter. The links lower the bike’s rear end 5/8 inch to 1½ inches, depending on the application. These links are recommended for riders with a shorter inseam, and they are for off-road trail use only. DeVol Engineering, Inc. has been in business for 48 years and is still family run and operated, manufacturing all of its motocross/off-road/dual-sport products in the USA. ■

unstar and Braking are brand names often seen in the same sentence together. The two companies are not competitors, but partners in the quest to produce quality aftermarket drive components and braking products. Sunstar purchased the Braking brand in 2005, beginning a relationship that adds up to nearly 90 years of experience in the powersports industry. Sunstar brings quality drive components to the partnership, while Braking adds, of course, premium braking components. In addition to a strong aftermarket presence, Sunstar and Braking are also both OEM for several bike manufacturers, including some of the popular Japanese brands. Sunstar got its start way back in 1946, and throughout its long history, the company has designed and produced products with quality, durability and price in mind. Sunstar sprockets, chains and brake discs are designed to deliver high performance for off-road, on-road and racing applications.

Braking is the younger sibling in the partnership, with its beginning in 1990, when the company opened its doors to manufacture and sell aftermarket brake discs. Eight years later, Braking launched its first nonround disk in racing, a style that has become a hallmark for the brand. Braking went on to introduce another iconic disc, the Batfly off-road disc, just a few years later. The Batfly Aluminum disc for motocross and Supercross riders and the Batfly S3, which is ideal for off-road competition, are among Braking’s most popular products. Both discs utilize the patented Batfly outer ring, where grooves on the disc surface create a self-ventilating mechanism to cool the rotor. The outside and inside of the disc’s diameter have a non-round design to allow for better radial expansion of the disc in extreme heat conditions. In 2000, Braking reached its 25th world championship through partnerships with race teams across various disciplines. Today, that number has surpassed 110 titles. ■

Stompgrip’s tank grips are used by all levels of riders, from the world champions on the Kawasaki Racing Team – Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes – to the everyday rider and adventurer who wants to have more control and safety wherever their motorcycle takes them. The tank grips’ unique Volcano traction profile, combined with the company’s proprietary plastic blends and 3M adhesives, provide customers with extremely reliable and functional grip. One of the most notable factors about Stompgrip’s manufacturing is that each part is injection molded instead of die-cut from prefabricated sheets. By doing this, Stompgrip creates a customized product with rounded edges, preventing the sides from peeling up and providing a stronger bond with the vehicle. Stompgrip’s Universal tank grips are also made in the Super Volcano and Icon traction profiles, which

Your sportbike customers with such machines as the Ducati Panigale V4 will appreciate the improved handling and increased traction that a set of Stromgrip’s tank grips provide.
offers riders varying degrees of grip to choose from, ranging from the ultra-aggressive Super Volcano used by California Superbike School on its fleet of training bikes to the least-aggressive Icon profile, which provides reliable traction for Adventure bikes and everyday street riding. Tank grips have become an essential part of motorcycle riders’ accessory upgrades to their bikes. The numerous benefits tank grips provide definitely outweigh the small investment your customers make for a quality product. Benefits include better handling in corners, reduced arm pump and fatigue, increased control and braking assistance. It’s incredibly helpful for those sudden, unexpected stops! Stompgrip’s dirtbike grip kits and gripper seat covers are being rediscovered by the next generation of off-road enthusiasts. The products’ benefits of reducing arm pump and fatigue along with increasing control provide Stompgrip riders an extra advantage in challenging environments. Stompgrip’s snowmobile tunnel and console grip kits and gripper seat covers have been used in the X-Games by Levi LaVallee, Colten Moore and Sam Rogers, plus championship Snocross teams and everyday single-track snowmobilers out for some trail riding. ■

Valve Kits for Better Longevity
Kibblewhite’s complete top-end service kit is an upgrade over the stock components, and includes everything necessary to get the job done.
R
iders faced with top-end service on any modern 4-stroke engine could be in for an unpleasant surprise. First, that service might be needed much sooner than anticipated. Second, factory replacement parts can be pricey. The reasons behind both surprises are the valves – nearly all recent motocross bikes and quads have titanium valves. While titanium is lightweight, thus reducing reciprocating valvetrain mass, it’s also soft, expensive and has a short service life compared to premium stainless steel and nickel-based valve alloys.
Kibblewhite Precision Machining, Inc., (KPMI®), known for designing and manufacturing longevity into valvetrains for over 79 years, has an affordable and long-lasting solution. It’s a complete top-end service kit for the most popular motocross bike and quad applications. The kit not only beats OE pricing, but can also outlast those OE counterparts by twice the factory-recommended service life, the company says. KPMI’s kits include all-new valves radically re-engineered and made from a much more durable EV8 stainless steel. Simply replacing the valves, however, would have resulted in a compression loss. To combat this, KPMI created a revolutionary piston design that incorporates convex geometry into the dome, maintaining the compression ratio at OEM specs. It’s included in the kit along with the rings, wrist pin, clips, valve springs, seals, retainers, and all necessary gaskets. ■

elson-Rigg takes its role as a premium manufacturer of top quality motorcycle covers, luggage and rainwear very seriously. They take it so seriously that the latest premium allweather fabric from the company took a full three years of engineering, development and testing before it was introduced to the public. Called UltraMax Fabric, the new material provides an exceptionally high level of protection from the elements, and it’s the material that Nelson-Rigg used to construct the new Defender Extreme Series covers. The covers come in sizes from Medium to XXL, which means there is an option to fit every motorcycle on the market, from Adventure-Touring models to Baggers. Cover options are even available for two-door and four-door sport UTVs. The Defender Extreme Series covers are ideal whether it’s cold and rainy or hot and sunny. The completely waterproof UltraMax Fabric has heat-taped seams and maximum UV protection against the sun.
The Defender Extreme Series of motorcycle covers is built from UltraMax Fabric, a material that provides high levels of protection from the elements.
Additional features found in some of the series include a soft windshield liner, heat-resistant material to protect against hot pipes, Nelson-Rigg’s Perma-Venting system for air circulation, security grommets, reflective strips and an elastic hem with an attached under belly strap. Each Defender Extreme cover comes packed inside an included compression bag, which allows for easy, compact storage when the cover is not on the bike. Nelson-Rigg has a lifetime warranty on the Defender Extreme covers, and that includes a warranty against fading. ■

A Modern Classic
Tripper Fastback for Ducati Scrambler 800
R
egardless of what you ride, an aftermarket seat can make time in the saddle much more enjoyable. Take the Ducati Scrambler for example. Since its inception, the Scrambler has been a hit amongst riders wanting a multipurpose machine to attack any terrain. Mustang tapped into the worldwide buzz from riders praising the Scrambler’s retro styling and modern versatility, noticing one common complaint – the factory seat. Available for 2015-2018 Scrambler 800 models, Mustang’s Tripper Fastback is cut low with a 9½-inch wide driver bucket that sits riders confidently in the motorcycle rather than on it like the stock bench-style seat. Classic tuck-and-roll stitching fuels the cool retro vibe of the Scrambler. Combined with a slightly raised tail section, it also helps keep riders from sliding back to maintain comfortable and aggressive riding posture.
Mustang’s Tripper Fastback seat for the Ducati Scrambler 800 borrows from the bike’s slick, retro styling, but offers modern comfort and performance.
Additionally, the Tripper Fastback is slightly longer compared to stock, creating a subtle overlap on and around the tank that reduces vibration between the legs and allow riders to “hug” their knees around it for increased cornering stability. Despite its lean profile that highlights the Scramblers lines, the Tripper Fastback’s driver bucket and 8-inch wide passenger area feature additional padding compared to stock for improved comfort on long rides and rugged off-road terrain. Mustang’s proprietary polyurethane-based foam compound requires no break-in period and delivers a perfect blend of softness and resilience for relaxing support. ■

egina Chain now has an entirely new family of chains, the Black Dual series, available through Parts Unlimited.
The new Black Dual is a high-quality, dualpurpose chain suitable for enduro, dual-sport, Adventure and streetbikes. The Z-44 rings are designed for high mileage, reduced elongation and longer lube intervals. The pre-stretched chains are manufactured in Italy with premium European steel, and the rollers, pins and link plates are shot-peened for high fatigue resistance. Regina has also been busy expanding its applications for chain and sprocket kits, and the additional applications stocked by Parts Unlimited include:

HELMETS
Introducing the Supertech Performance-Minded Off-Road Helmet
The Supertech M10 helmet from Alpinestars is lightweight, protective, performance-minded, and features MIPS impact protection technology.
Another key feature of the M10 is its patented ‘A-Head’ system that allows riders to adjust the height and angle at which the helmet sits on the head. This allows riders to fine tune the set-up quickly and easily for different types of riding. The helmet’s patented visor release mechanism keeps the mounting held securely in place when riding in the most demanding conditions, and allows the lightweight visor to detach from the shell in the event of a significant impact. Impact protection performance is reinforced by the use of the MIPS Multi-Directional Protection Systems. These reduce rotational motion energies that impact the helmet by allowing the MIPS layer to lessen the energy before it reaches the rider’s skull, explains Alpinestars.
T
he result of over five years of intensive development and testing, the Supertech M10 helmet is a highly advanced, protective and performanceenhancing motocross and off-road helmet, created within the Alpinestars helmet department. Designed to offer a high level of protection, the M10 is lightweight, streamlined and comfortable, with an advanced ventilation system and unique height and pitch fitting. A patented visor release system and MIPS impact protection technology give the M10 strong credentials. The helmet is DOT certified and ECE homologated for worldwide use. The M10 features a distinctive smooth, multi-layer carbon composite construction shell that is free of any external channels or features to help reduce elements that could act as a load point during an impact. According to Alpinestars, the three-layered curved surface also plays a key role in protecting the rider by helping dissipate energy from the skull, neck and spinal column areas, in addition to reducing friction on impact. The helmet is available in small, medium, large and extralarge, and each helmet has its own appropriate shell size to ensure the most comfortable fit.

The collarbone area is equally well protected thanks to the helmet’s sculpted base, which features a relief area where the bottom is raised to clear the collarbone. This, when combined with the energy absorption pad, deflects when it contacts the clavicle, which Alpinestars says significantly reduces the forces transferred to the collarbone. This principle also applies to the M10’s chin bar that further protects the rider’s collarbone. The M10’s interior ensures that your customers will stay cool in hot conditions. Making the visor design of the helmet an integral part of the ventilation system means it acts as a powerful channel to concentrate and smooth the airflow into the shell. Combined with the Supertech liner, which optimizes airflow channeling around the rider’s head before exiting the M10 through the rear exhaust vents, means there is a constant airflow when riding. Weight is minimal and an important feature, both in safety and performance terms, and every element of the M10 has been rigorously researched and tested to improve the weight-to-strength and energy absorption properties to create a protective, comfortable and lightweight helmet. The M10 is packed with rider-friendly features such as a removable, washable liner, a wider than regulation 26mm chin strap for ease of use, and channels that allow a hydration tube to be incorporated on either side of the shell. ■
