P
arts Unlimited has been putting on dealer rides for many years. From the Rocky Mountains to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, dirt bike events got it started, then a road ride was held in Palm Springs. Last year Parts switched gears completely with a UTV Dealer ride in Tennessee. This past October, a first-ever multi-segment ride was held. Dealers who ride dirt bikes, road bikes, adventure bikes, ATVs and UTVs were all welcome to come to St. George, Utah to enjoy some of the best roads, trails and scenic views ever for a Parts Unlimited event. Be sure to check out our report starting on page 36. A highlight of the paved routes was a trip through the epic Zion National Park, while off-roaders enjoyed the sand and red rocks of Warner Valley or the nearby Sand Hollow State Park. Yours truly chose the road bike option, many went in the side-by-sides and a few took the novel approach of riding roads one day and off-road the next. No announcements were made about next year’s dealer ride, but it’s not too early to start talking to your Parts Unlimited sales rep about qualifying for it.
While some of the Parts Magazine team was in Utah, editor Dennis Johnson tagged along with some of the sales reps from Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties for a visit to France to see how Michelin tires are made, as well some of the world-famous tourist stops. Also included in the trip was a stop to Parts Europe’s headquarters in Trier, Germany. See his report of that trip on page 74. Looking ahead, our staff will be traveling to Louisville, Kentucky in February for Parts Unlimited’s 2020 Spring NVP Product Expo. Their Parts Unlimited sales team will be there, as well as many leading manufacturers and dealers like you. To get you ready for the show, you will find starting on page 22 our Louisville NVP Product Expo preview with some insight on what many of the participating Parts Unlimited vendors will be showing there at the trade show. We hope to see you there. ■

he United States earned dual victories at the 2019 FIM International Six Day Enduro, with the U.S. ISDE World Trophy, and Women’s World Trophy teams emerging victorious at the 94th running of the prestigious event in Portiamo, Portugal. Additionally, the U.S. Junior World Trophy team came in second in its category, while the American XC Gear team won the Club team title during the November 11-16 event. This marks the second time the U.S. team won the prestigious World Trophy title since 2016, which had been its first victory. It’s also the second time the Women’s team won the title since 2007, the year the division debuted. Proving themselves as the nation to beat in this year’s FIM ISDE, the American World Trophy Team of Moose Racing rider Steward Baylor, plus Taylor Robert, Kailub Russell and Ryan Sipes edged out early pace setters RecoveR8 Team Australia during the midway stage in the race. The team continued to grow stronger as the week progressed.

Creating their own piece of Enduro history, the U.S. Women’s Trophy team of Tarah Geiger, Brandy Richards and Becca Sheets secured their win ahead of second-place Germany. The team’s top performer was Richards, who finished second in the individual standings to Germany’s Maria Franke. Sheets finished sixth overall, and Gieger eighth.
The U.S. Junior World Trophy team of Grant Baylor (Steward’s brother), Ben Kelley and Josh Toth earned second place behind Australia.
An American Club Team, the XC Gear team of Dante Oliveira, Ricky Russell and Austin Walton, topped a 124-team field and finished ahead of a club team from France. Olivera and Russell ended the event as the second- and third-fastest riders in the C2 class.

Erik Pritchard Assumes New Leadership Roles NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF POWERSPORTS TRADE AND SAFETY ASSOCIATIONS
E
rik Pritchard has assumed the role of chief executive officer and president of the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA), Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association of America (ROHVA), as part of the leadership succession plan announced by the respective boards in July 2019. Pritchard joined the associations as general counsel in March 2014 following more than a decade supporting the associations as outside counsel on a variety of litigation and non-litigation matters. He was named president of SVIA and ROHVA in 2017. “The powersports industry is facing tremendous opportunities and also tough challenges as we move into the next decade. Erik has proven through his leadership the past five years, and long history with the associations, that he will be the dynamic leader we need to accomplish the many initiatives we will be undertaking to support our members,” said Paul Vitrano, MIC board chair, and senior assistant general counsel of Indian Motorcycle and Polaris, Inc., commenting on behalf of all Erik Pritchard the association boards.
“The next five to 10 years will be crucial for the long-term health and success of the powersports industry,” Pritchard said. “Our staff in California and Washington, D.C., are highly experienced and committed, and combined with the best industry minds in the world among our respective board members, we have a blue-ribbon team. I’m looking forward to strengthening our current operations and executing new initiatives to help our industry.” One such initiative is the long-term, industry-wide effort led by the MIC to boost motorcycle ridership – more riders, riding more. The strategic framework for this plan was presented to a packed ballroom during the opening session at the AIMExpo presented by Nationwide in September. ■

MOOSE RACING FOR THE WIN 2 0 19 O F F - R O A D C H A M P I O N S
T
here’s no doubt that the team at Moose Racing knows the off-road market backward and forward. This expertise shows in the wide range of riding apparel, protective gear, hard parts, replacement parts, and luggage the company produces. Purpose built and job specific, it’s a range of products designed for hardcore off-road use. That group of seasoned enthusiasts at Moose go to great lengths to test and develop those products by working with some of the most talented off-road riders and racers on the scene. The relationship with those riders doesn’t stop at product development either, as Moose Racing sponsors a number of riders in multiple disciplines, at all levels of racing. It looks like 2019 was a banner year for many of those Moose Racing riders, eight of whom ended their seasons as champions in their respective series. That’s quite a lineup so let’s take a look at this year’s big winners.
GNCC SERIES
Noah Mickelson took the College A ATV Championship riding a Honda in the GNCC Series with three impressive victories and six other podiums in the 13-race series. He scored an impressive point total of 172, edging out his closest rival by eight points to take the title.
Noah Mickelson
Joseph Cunningham had an incredible season. Not only did he wrap up the GNCC YXC1 title with nine wins in a row, and 10 victories in the season, he also beat Steward Baylor’s record for consecutive overall wins. The 15-year-old from Murray City, Ohio, rides for Tely Energy on a KTM. Keep an eye on this young rider, as it looks like he has a bright future in off-road racing. Grant Davis is the 2019 GNCC YXC2 Super Mini Junior Champion. Kawasaki mounted Davis dominated the YXC2 class (Super Mini Junior 12-13) in the GNCC Series this season. To earn the title, he won nine of the 13 rounds in the series for 180 points. Owen Barnes took the GNCC 85cc Bike class title for 12-to 13-year-olds by winning five of the 13 rounds of the GNCC Series and scoring three other podiums for 172 points and the Championship. GNCC rider Jocelyn Barnes started her season like she was shot out of a cannon, cranking out five victories in a row,

Liam Draper is the new Pro 2 Class National Enduro Series Champion. In the Pro 2 Class during the 2019 season, Draper’s worst finish was second and the rest of the time he was first for a decisive points total that earned him the Pro 2 Class Championship. The 22 year old from New Zealand is currently living in in Waynesburg, PA where he rides for the Tely Energy race team on a KTM. This year is Draper’s second full season of racing in the USA. He is a rider to watch in the future. Finally, we come to Steward Baylor, who has been the dominant force in the National Enduro Series for the last four years. Looks like 2019 was no different as Baylor was once again nearly unstoppable in the woods, rocks and mud of the National Enduros. This season he was first or second in every event he entered, and the rider who beat him when he took second place was usually his brother Grant Baylor. But even Grant couldn’t hold off his brother from winning his fourth National Enduro Pro1 Class Championship in 2019. Steward Baylor was also a member of Team USA’s ISDE World Trophy Team. Baylor, along with team-mates Taylor Robert, Ryan Sipes, and Kailub Russell took the USA Trophy Team to another World Trophy Team Championship in the 2019 ISDE in Portugal. Baylor rode his KTM 500 EXC-F to third place in the E3 class to win another ISDE Gold Medal to add to his 2019 accolades. ■

hen it comes to off-road gear, few brands have as much heritage as THOR. Founded by four-time World 250cc Motocross Champion Torsten Hallman in 1968, THOR has been at the forefront of off-road gear for more than 50 years. That makes THOR a great option for all of your customers’ moto and off-road-apparel needs, and with the holidays upon us, THOR products are something anyone should be proud to give as a gift.
Features also include a removable and washable comfort liner, large-mouth vent with a filter to keep out dirt and debris, plus an adjustable visor that’s vented to reduce lift while your customers are tapped out in 5th. Available in five colors with subtle, stylish graphics, the Sector Split looks good atop any outfit.
Below is an assortment of fresh THOR items that would make great last-minute gift suggestions for customers looking to treat all the off-road riders in their lives.
Sector Split helmet Fast Boyz jerseys and pants
SECTOR SPLIT HELMET
Every king needs a crown, and your customers can’t go wrong gifting THOR’s Sector Split helmet, which wraps cutting-edge protection in a stylish polycarbonate shell. With a dual-density EPS liner and MIPS technology, the Sector Split has earned DOT and ECE 22.05 approval and offers fine-tuned impact protection for those unexpected get offs. That Multi-Directional Impact Protection Systems (MIPS) technology reduces rotational motion energies that impact the helmet by allowing the inner absorption layer to damp and redirect the energy before it would reach the skull.

FAST BOYZ JERSEYS AND PANTS
Give the gift of great memories with THOR’s retro Fast Boyz apparel. Emulating the wild style and hot colors of the early 1990s, the Fast Boyz jerseys and pants are a throwback to the kit originally worn by motocross icons Larry Brooks, Michael Craig, Jeff Emig, Ricky Johnson, and Ronnie Tichenor in 1991 and 1992. The lineup is a throwback to a dynamic era of motocross, but comes with all the features, technology and quality your customers expect from modern THOR gear.

Sniper goggles
THOR
A proper, snug fit is ensured via three adjustable straps per boot, secured via easy-to-release buckles. A mesh liner promotes airflow around the rider’s feet, while interior EVA panels further enhance comfort. On the outside, injectionmolded abrasion plates shield the inside and outside of the feet and legs. Sturdy ankle hinges and surrounding structures protect the wearer from hyperextension, which helps the Radial boots meet EN 12634:2017 safety standards.
TRANSIT WHEELIE BAG
SNIPER GOGGLES
Any customer who stuffs a stocking with a set of THOR’s Sniper goggles is going to earn some serious brownie points. These goggles are impact-resistant to EN 1938.2010 standards so they’re good and safe, but they’re also super comfortable thanks to dual-layer 14mm face foam and a micro-fleece liner. The standard polycarbonate lens is optically correct for clear vision and ready to accept tear-offs via a secure three-post system. The Snipers even come with a spare clear lens. Other features include a removable roost nose guard, flush-mounted strap covers, and plush bag for safe storage. The Snipers are offered in six colors to match the Sector Split helmet or any other headgear.
RADIAL BOOTS
THOR’s Radial boots are made to moto hard with a supertough chassis that’s packed with comfort and performance features. It all starts with the uni-directional outsoles, which feature steel shanks for rigidity and strength. The low-profile toe boxes can handle hard hits and offer unhindered shifting. No matter how many gears someone grabs, wear to the boot is kept to a minimum thanks to the integrated shift-protector plate.
Great gear deserves a great gear bag, so THOR has put together the Transit Wheelie tote. The Wheelie is ideal for getting your customer’s kit to the track, and it even makes life easier in the pits. With a roll-out changing mat there’s no need to dance around in the dirt while getting suited up, and an abundance of external pockets help keep gloves, base layers and tear offs organized. There’s even a fleece-lined compartment to keep your customer’s helmet and goggles cozy and scratch free. Once that riding gear is grimed up, the Wheelie will quarantine boots in a rubber-coated compartment and help wet gear dry out via airflow from numerous mesh ventilation panels. The 1200-Denier, heavy-duty polyester chassis is formed around a sturdy injection-molded base, so the bag is tough enough to survive life at the track and in the back of a truck. A retractable handle and oversize wheels make the Wheelie easy to roll around, even when it’s stuffed to the brim. When the bag isn’t at capacity, side straps let your customers cinch down the load. Measuring about 37 inches long, 17 inches wide, and 18 inches tall, the Wheelie is big enough to swallow a rider’s full outfit plus plenty of personal items. ■

PARTS UNLIMITED’S MOST DIVERSE DEALER RIDE EVER! Stor y by Don Emde. Photos by Todd Olson and Don Emde
P
arts Unlimited took its annual dealer ride to a whole new level of diversity this year. A first-ever multi-segment event based out of St. George, UT, offered fantastic and scenic riding for street and off-road motorcyclists, as well as a whole recreation park for UTV enthusiasts. At the same time motorcycle riders were enjoying the roads in and around Zion National Park, off-road motorcyclists and side-by-side drivers were enjoying the rocks and sand of the Sand Hollow State Park and nearby off-road areas. This year’s event followed the time-tested format with an opening day to get everyone checked in and a tour through the vendor row to pick up some free samples and talk with manufacturers. That evening featured a welcoming reception and dinner. The following two days then offered the riders great choices for their specific types of riding, a few mixed it up and did both on- and off-roading. On the last night, the group all gathered for one final meal together, which included lively interviews and story-telling led by emcee Rob Buydos. The final piece of business were the annual award presentations, both serious and gag awards for deserving recipients. It was not revealed where next year’s Parts Unlimited dealer ride will be held or what the format will be. With the bar set higher this year than ever before, though, it will surely be something special. It’s not too early to start talking with your Parts rep about how to qualify. We hope to see you there.

Lithium battery
The Moose Racing lithium battery is a lightweight, maintenance-free unit that doesn’t use any heavy metals or hazardous acid. That means the battery can be mounted in any direction, so it has a wider range of fitment options. A lithium battery lasts significantly longer than a lead acid battery, too. Another bonus of swapping to a lithium battery is that the weight is as much as 60 percent lighter than a lead acid battery, giving riders another chance to shave some weight off of their bike. The Moose Racing lithium battery has a fast recharge time of just six minutes, and it includes a built-in battery capacity indicator. The battery has a shelf life of up to 12 months before it needs charging. The two new handlebars from Moose Racing are the Competition SE and the Flex SE, which are both constructed from high-quality 7010-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum. The Competition SE has a 7/8-inch handlebar that is designed for maximum strength. The inner wall thickness of the handlebar is a solid 5mm, and an added crossbar increases its stability.
W
hen it comes to freshening up a bike for a new riding season, Moose Racing has a long list of hard parts available, just about everything a customer needs for an offseason overhaul. Among the newest hard parts from Moose Racing are lithium batteries, two different styles of handlebars, rotors and clutch and ignition covers.
The Flex SE handlebar is an oversized, 11/8-inch handlebar made with variable diameter sizes and wall thicknesses. The variable sizing throughout the handlebar allows it to still work well with standard-sized controls, including a 28.6mm diameter in the clamping area. Like the Competition SE, the Flex SE is designed for strength. That oversized design is stronger than a classic bar, but it still offers a weight savings over stock, weighing in at up to 40 percent lighter. Both of the handlebar designs feature a knurled clutch side for better grip retention.

Clutch cover
The standard rotor is made from a high-content stainless steel, which provides greater friction compared to the OEM standard rotors. The laser-cut design is carefully engineered to provide improved braking power and cooling, even under extreme braking. The standard rotor is a non-floating design that easily bolts directly to the hub.
MOOSE RACING
Moose Racing already has a number of brake rotor options, but the company has added a standard rotor to the lineup. The standard rotor is a simple replacement since it fits all OEM standard brake calipers, making it easy to upgrade the bike’s braking system.
Ignition cover
Like the standard rotor, the Moose Racing clutch and ignition covers are easy to swap out while offering improvements over the stock components. The covers are made from a high-grade 6060-T6 forged aluminum, making them stronger than standard OEM covers while also improving heat dissipation. The clutch covers are actually 2mm deeper than stock, which expands the oil capacity and helps aid cooling during riding. A hard-anodized finish tops off the clutch and ignition covers to add even more durability.
Standard rotors
M1 sintered brake pads are ideal for dry conditions, and the high-friction S-57 sintered metal compound provides maximum stopping power. XCR brake pads are the ultimate choice in wet conditions, and the sintered compound is backed by a thick zirconium-based ceramic to protect the brake fluid from heat. Qualifier brake pads offer progressive feel and excellent rider feedback, and the latest-generation aramid fiber material results in no rotor wear and quiet braking. The new Moose Racing clutch covers pair well with the complete clutch kits, which are designed to out-perform the OEM version. Each kit includes friction plates, steel plates, clutch springs and a clutch cover gasket. The friction plates are heat-resistant for fade-free performance, and they weigh more than stock plates, which adds a flywheel effect to aid starting and traction. The plates also have longer life than standard aluminum plates.
In addition to the new Moose Racing hard parts, the company has plenty of other parts that update and improve an off-road bike. The new standard rotors can be paired with Moose Racing brake pads, which are available in three different styles.
Moose Racing’s clutch baskets also increase clutch performance. The design creates less heat when the clutch is disengaged, and the machined billet T-6 aluminum basket helps increase heat dissipation. A hard-anodized coating adds durability to extend the life of the clutch performance. ■

POWERSPORTS COMMUNIT Y ANSWERS CALL TO ARMS
One highlight of the 2019 AIMExpo was Sideways Saturdays, an AMA-sanctioned indoor racing event.
I
t was apparent to anyone gathered inside the Greater Columbus Convention Center for the 2019 American International Motorcycle Expo, that this year’s theme of “Together We Rise” had struck a nerve.
This call for the collective Powersports community to concentrate its energy on strengthening the industry’s future coalesced into an energy that resonated throughout the four-day event in September. The energy and camaraderie were palpable, not just on the show floor during the media and general public days, but also at the popular industry party and affiliated events that took place in Columbus this year.
Show-goers had the chance to test ride a number of new models from the attending OEMs.

Nothing like some bar-banging action among amateur and pro racers alike to inject a bit of adrenaline into things. Of course, the dealers attending the 2019 AIMExpo were front-and-center to a series of free educational seminars aimed at strengthening best retail practices. Presented by Powersports Business Magazine, the seminars focused on educating dealers on how they can evolve, grow and work to become more profitable.
Many OEMs showcased a number of new models during the AIMExpo weekend.
By focusing on stronger, more relevant educational offerings, and through a powerful general session that was led by the Motorcycle Industry Council Board of Directors, the AIMExpo was able to attract a strong collection of high-quality, highly progressive dealers and exhibitors. That general session also served as the introduction of the MIC’s Ridership Initiative, an industry-wide effort to get more riders out on the road.
This year’s AIMExpo featured a number of “neighborhood hangouts,” special areas highlighting the lifestyle elements of the major market segments.
“These forward-thinking attendees will be the leaders in driving positive change for the Powersports industry,” said Cinnamon Kernes, vice president and general manager, MIC Events. “Overall, the energy and enthusiasm at the show was at an all-time high, with quality business and networking taking place throughout the event and after hours.” ■

RIDING APPAREL
On Track With the Kraken Mythology Meets Motorcycle Leathers Icon’s limitededition Kraken Hypersport suit features a graphic of that mythological sea creature emblazoned onto the company’s tough roadracing leather suit.
A
Scandinavian historian described a kraken back in the 13th century, and not much about the legend has changed in the years since then. The super-sized octopus was believed to be an elusive sea monster that liked to snack on ships, so if you went sailing for adventure on the deep blue sea, the kraken was the last thing you wanted to run into. Icon took that ancient fear of the kraken and transferred it onto the new Kraken Hypersport suit. The homage to the mythical man-eater is a limited-edition run of only 99 suits. The chest, back, biceps and thighs of the suit are adorned with screen-printed black-and-white graphics of the kraken, its tentacles poised for attack against any competitors on the track. On the left breast, a bright yellow patch tells everyone which of the 99 numbered suits it is. The base of the suit is black, while red accordion paneling and red Icon badging add a pop of color. Underneath the kraken graphics is Icon’s Hypersport leather suit, which is constructed of tough 1.1-1.3mm TracSpec leather. The premium cowhide is a top-grain leather, the material a customer would expect to find in a high-end roadracing suit. The perforation zones throughout the suit allow some airflow to keep things cool, but they are reinforced for an extra dose of durability. The accordion paneling is placed in strategic flex zones, as is a four-way stretch material that allows a full range of movement on the bike. All of those design elements conform to Icon’s Attack Fit. The pre-curved arms and legs plus the stretch zones ensure a rider can be comfortable even in a full tuck. The tailored fit and speed hump give a more aerodynamic silhouette. TPU details on the shoulders, elbows and kneecaps add asphalt resistance in key areas, and of course the Hypersport suit includes the requisite replaceable knee pucks.
Inside the Kraken Hypersport, D3O impact protectors in the shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees keep the suit flexible while providing a high-tech, lightweight barrier for shock absorption and impact deflection. The liner of the Kraken Hypersport is removable and washable to keep things fresh. ■

otorcycle drive chains are one of the most essential components to a bike’s drive system, but are often overlooked or undervalued by your customers.
Even though many motorcycles are high-powered machines, that does not always mean every rider has to purchase products that are classified as racing accessories. RK Chain’s range of MAX drive chains is a great solution for those looking for a feature-rich chain that’s available for a nice price. The MAX chains are ideal for everyday use, combining both performance and durability in a three-tier series of chains. All MAX series chains are manufactured in Japan and have a super high tensile strength rating for their categories, and feature pricing that won’t break the bank. There are three versions of the MAX chain: MAX O, MAX X and MAX Z.
The RX-ring seals are designed to provide a double-barrier protection against dirt, debris, grit and highspeed stresses.
MAX O
MAX O features traditional round O-ring seals and is RK’s premium quality O-ring chain that’s available at an economical price. The MAX O is offered in a wide range of applications for both street and off-road use. MAX O is available in 520, 525 and 530 pitches, and in either a Natural or Gold finish.

EXHAUST PRODUCTS
Born From Racing Introducing the Stinger
The Stinger exhaust for the RZR XP 1000 and RZR Turbo models includes a black powder-coated back plate for cleaning up the rear of the vehicle.
into countless hours of real world and dyno testing, developing an exhaust that Trinity now unveils as the final product.
The all-new Stinger exhaust is designed to exit from the side of a UTV engine, rather than the rear. The exhaust also supplies the performance boost and good looks for which Trinity Racing is known.
This new exhaust is special for a few reasons. First, it starts with stainless-steel header pipes at the exhaust port just like any other full Trinity exhaust system. But from there it mates to an all new 2½-inch diameter, and 14-inch long muffler. The stainless-steel perforated core is wrapped with a new high-temp fiberglass pillow, with another layer of steel packing wrapped around that. The internals on this exhaust are all new and are a full half inch larger than any other Trinity exhaust available. This larger diameter allows for more exhaust gases to flow through, as quickly as possible. From there, a newly designed billet aluminum exhaust tip exits the rear, finishing off the exhaust with a look unlike any other. Not only does this exhaust increase performance, but it also removes weight from the vehicle, and allows for increased space between the chassis and the bumper. The overall weight savings compared to other Trinity systems is north of 8 pounds, and a whopping 25-plus pounds over stock.
A
s with many brands, Trinity Racing relies heavily on its racers to help improve current products and test new ones. The new Stinger single exit exhaust is a prime example of gaining that valuable input from real-world use. After countless requests from customers for a new style exhaust that exits out the side rather than the rear, Trinity figured it was time to get serious. The company launched

he team at KICKER has specialized in vehicle audio systems since the company started as a two-man operation back in 1973. KICKER’s powersports audio products are specifically designed for the market, which means they are able to withstand the tough conditions riders tend to put their powersports vehicles through. KICKER powersports products are weatherproof, designed to withstand sun and wide temperature ranges and, in some cases, they are also waterproof. The audio products feature low current-draw amplifiers and high-sensitivity (moderate power with a high output) speakers, resulting in great sound quality that does not strain a vehicle’s power system. KICKER powersports speaker products, sold in pairs, include the 4-inch KM4, 6.5-inch KM654L and 8-inch KM84L coaxial speakers. All of the speakers are designed to handle whatever Mother Nature has in store. UV treatments on the injection-molded cones, Santoprene (a special rubber-like material) surrounds, baskets and grills guard against the sun. The sealed speaker monitors and terminal covers resist splashes and spraying, and the mounting hardware is made from rustproof stainless steel. The KM4 coaxial speakers include ½-inch tweeters and work best with 50 watts of continuous power. The KM654L speakers have ¾-inch tweeters plus an LED illumination

system with seven possible colors, and they are ideal with 65 watts of power. The KM84L speakers, which work best with 150 watts, have 1-inch tweeters and also feature LED illumination. All three speaker models come with both charcoal and white grills. KICKER makes empty can enclosures to house those three speaker models. Also sold in pairs, the enclosures come in either a black or white high-gloss finish and include waterproof aluminum mounting clamps. The KMMTES enclosures for the KM4 coaxial speakers have clamps that fit five sizes of round tubing plus 1-inch square tubing. A 360-degree axis of rotation ensures maximum sound quality. The KMTES enclosures for the KM654L speakers and the KMTES8 enclosures for the KM84L speakers will both fit four sizes of round tubing and offer a 9-degree axis of rotation. All three enclosure models can be extended with an available adapter kit. The final touch for a KICKER audio system is the PXiBT100.2 amplified controller, which is a head unit designed for outdoor use. The weatherproof controller enables audio streaming from any Bluetooth-connected device, and the wired remote has oversized buttons for easy use, even with gloves on. By using the remote, phones can stay safely tucked away in a pocket or luggage. The controller provides 100 watts of power to the KICKER setup via a small, low current-draw amp, whose size makes installation locations virtually limitless. Powersports dealers can get a thorough training in KICKER products from the KICKER Tech Force. The team gives dealers an overview of product features, installation tips and advice for getting the most from an outdoor audio system. ■

High-Tech Off-Road Competition Chains
D
.I.D Chain takes a lot of pride in the amount of research and development that goes into creating each chain. So much, in fact, that the company’s slogan is “Powered by Technology.”
With that mindset, all D.I.D chains are meticulously developed to ensure the right combination of strength, consistency, weight and performance for specific racing applications. Technology features on D.I.D chains include things like the company’s patented X-Ring seal, Direct Energy Transfer and SDH pin treatment. The X-Ring seal on sealed D.I.D chains is a patented design that has four contact points and twists between the chain’s plates, which ensures reduced friction and a longer chain life. The design also increases the sealing performance, keeping the chain lubrication in the chain and keeping dirt and dust on the outside.
The 520ERT3 is the company’s lightest and most popular motocross chain, weighing in at just 2.99 pounds per 100 links.
D.I.D’s Direct Energy Transfer concept means that the pins of each chain have increased rigidity, which is a chain’s resistance to deformation and elongation. That results in a quicker throttle response, reduced power loss and smoother handling. This is a product of D.I.D’s SDH pin treatment, which is a two-layer treatment that includes a soft inner core which helps absorb shocks, plus an extremely hard chromium carbide layer on the pin’s surface for outstanding strength. The off-road racing chains from D.I.D are all built to the company’s strict standards to ensure excellent performance. The 520ERT3 is the company’s lightest and most popular motocross chain, weighing in at just 2.99 pounds per 100 links. Many top teams opt for this chain, including Monster Energy Kawasaki, GEICO Honda and TLD KTM.
The D.I.D 520MX is an ideal chain for harsh track conditions, providing optimal strength against even the worst of odds.
The D.I.D 520MX is an ideal chain for harsh track conditions, providing optimal strength against even the worst of odds. The 520MX for motocross has the highest-rated tensile strength of any 520 chain produced by D.I.D, coming in at an impressive strength of 8,930 pounds. Factory teams like Red Bull KTM trust the 520MX because of the chain’s resistance to warping and elongating even while under enormous stress. The newest member of D.I.D’s Exclusive Racing series is the 520ERVT. While the 520ERT3 and 520MX are nonsealed chains, the 520ERVT utilizes the patented X-Ring technology to increase its life as much as 8½ times longer than the other two models. The 520ERVT is lighter than the MX chain and stronger than the ERT3, offering a, “best of both worlds” choice for riders who want a blend of performance and durability. ■

earing through the most difficult terrain on an ATV just got more affordable for your customers thanks to AMS. The company has introduced lower pricing on its Swamp Fox line of tires, which includes the classic Swamp Fox and the Swamp Fox Plus. The Swamp Fox tire has been at the center of the AMS product line for 15 years, standing strong as an aggressive all-season, all-terrain ATV tire. Some of the traits that make it such a perennial favorite are its capabilities in all conditions, its durability and, of course, its ability to tackle difficult off-road terrain. The tread pattern has a lot to do with the Swamp Fox’s performance in all conditions. The computer-enhanced design provides maximum stability and sure-footed traction in everything from hard-packed dirt to mud, even at speed. The tread lugs have been reinforced and dimpled to maximize the number of edges, getting every bit of traction possible out of the tire. The aggressive shoulder knobs add traction in deep ruts, and they provide an extra barrier to help protect the sidewall from punctures.
The Swamp Fox from AMS has been a popular tire in the company’s product line for 15 years thanks to its aggressive, all-season, all-terrain features.
A deep tread pattern is what keeps the Swamp Fox tires rolling through the mud, while the overall tire design reduces weight so that there is less stress on the drivetrain. The Swamp Fox is built from a natural rubber compound, and it is combined with a rugged six-ply rated construction to increase resistance to punctures while also extending the life of the tire. While the standard Swamp Fox tire has a 5/8-inch tread depth, the Swamp Fox Plus has a massive tread depth of almost 1¼ inches. The Swamp Fox Plus is also an all-terrain tire, but it is especially capable in the mud and snow thanks to that tread depth. The tread is also designed to be self-cleaning, so even the stickiest of mud won’t get caught in the tire. That ensures the tire will keep up the same level of traction, and it saves the ATV from carrying around any extra weight. Parts Unlimited stocks 26 different sizes in the standard Swamp Fox tire, and there are 10 sizes available for the Swamp Fox Plus. AMS produces a wide variety of all-terrain tires as well as specialty tires and wheel kits, with the Swamp Fox leading the charge. ■

art of the reason your customers get a kick out of ATV trail rides and side-xside excursions is the thrill of tackling tricky terrain. Pushing the boundaries is always fun, but it’s a good idea to remind your customers to be prepared for those occasions when they may push things too far.
The VRX line is fully waterproof and features a sturdy all-metal drivetrain and end housing, improved clutch design, increased capacity, and a powerful motor.
Whether they need to protect their vehicles while they’re moving or extract them once they’re stuck, Warn has them covered with quality winches and bumpers. The new AXON and VRX powersports winches provide incredible pulling power for any application, and Warn’s heavy-duty steel bumpers for ATVs and side-x-sides add protection and style.
Warn has been in business for over 70 years and is constantly developing new and innovative products for the powersports market. The new AXON winch lineup is a perfect example. It combines legendary Warn durability with the new digital contactor technology to create a totally modern, high-tech winch. The AXON ditches the traditional mechanical solenoid relay contactor for a compact, all-digital contactor that’s integrated into the motor housing. The result is a sleek winch that’s up to 50 percent quicker to install, offers improved performance, and provides more feedback regarding speed, load and motor temperature. Tech is nothing without durability, so the AXON has an all-metal construction that’s fully waterproof and powder coated for corrosion resistance. A new clutch design is based on Warn 4WD hub lock know-how, while a built-in load limiter prevents damage from overloading. Warn’s ATV and sideby-side bumpers are built from laser-cut, powder-coated steel, and are designed to maintain great ground clearance. They can also accommodate oversized tires.
AXON winches come with a dash-mounted switch and corded controller for easy operation from the cockpit or away from the vehicle. The AXON is tough and smart, and available in 3,500-pound, 4,500-pound and 5,500-pound pulling capacities with a choice of steel cable or Spydura™ synthetic rope. For vehicles with space constraints, Warn offers a narrow-drum version of the 4,500-pound winch. For your customers who need no-frills functionality, the VRX lineup is the definition of durability. The VRX is fully waterproof and features a sturdy all-metal drivetrain and end housing, improved clutch design, increased capacity, and powerful motor. The VRX elevates every feature of Warn’s standard-duty winch except the price. Offered in 2,500-pound, 3,500-pound and 4,500-pound capacities, the VRX lineup is all about performance, reliability and value. The new AXON winch lineup combines legendary Warn durability with the new digital contactor technology to create a totally modern, hightech winch.
And, what better way to mount a winch and add protection on the trail than with one of Warn’s ATV and side-x-side bumpers? Built from laser-cut, powder-coated steel, Warn’s bumpers accommodate oversized tires and feature an angled design that sits high to maintain ground clearance. With features like welded recovery points, pre-drilled mounting holes and cutouts for auxiliary lighting, these bumpers are easy to install and built to last. ■

ichelin is heading into a busy 2020 with the launch of six new motorcycle products, the most the company has ever debuted in a given year. The list of new tires includes two options for V-twins, a premium on-road sportbike tire, a track tire option, an off-road tire for minibikes, and an improved all-weather scooter tire. “Michelin’s sales and marketing team is charged and ready to get our new products in front of customers and on bikes,” says Shane Messner, Director of Two-Wheel Sales and Marketing. “Michelin has more new flagship products on the market for multiple riding segments than ever before.” Michelin has updated its Commander series of V-twin tires by introducing the Michelin Commander III Cruiser and Commander III Touring tires. Available in 27 sizes with specific fitments for both Cruiser and Touring platforms, the Commander III gives customers more focused performance for their style of riding.

The Commander III Cruiser tire emphasizes improved wet grip without sacrificing mileage compared to the durable Commander II. The Commander III, on the other hand, makes extended mileage a priority while enhancing wet grip capabilities compared to the Commander II. Both versions of the Commander III feature Michelin’s patented Premium Touch sidewall design to complement V-twin styling. Although the Commander III line is replacing the Michelin Commander II tire as the premium offer for V-twin motorcycles, Michelin will continue to offer the popular Commander II in 17 key sizes at a lower price point. In the sport segment, the Michelin Power 5 tire will be the brand’s premier product for on-road sportbikes, taking over from the Michelin Power RS. Designed to deliver proven performance plus a dose of canyon-carving fun, the Michelin Power 5 improves on the already-outstanding wet grip performance of the Power RS, offering sportbike riders even more confidence in the rain. The Power 5 will be available in one front size and five rear sizes.

The Michelin Power GP tire is the company’s 50/50 track day tire, another new offering for 2020. The tire superbly balances both wet and dry grip through the compound and tread design. Michelin 2CT and 2CT+ Technologies optimize the placement of carbon black and silica compounds to ensure enhanced grip, and the maximum slick zones boost dry grip on the track. Michelin also took aesthetics into consideration when designing the Power GP, including the Premium Touch sidewall. Michelin’s new off-road tire is built for minibikes. The Michelin StarCross 5 Mini tire is a high-performance motocross tire with a medium compound for a wide range of conditions and terrains, so riders can be confident even as course conditions change throughout the day. The StarCross 5 Mini will be available in five sizes for 10-inch, 12-inch and 14-inch rims. The StarCross 5 Mini tires will be available to dealers in March, but dealers should note that at the same time, Michelin will be discontinuing the Starcross MH3 Mini and the Starcross MS3 Mini tire lines. In addition to the mini tires, Michelin also has line extensions for StarCross 5 Medium and StarCross 5 Soft tires, with the new sizes accommodating smaller dirt bikes.
The Michelin Power 5 tire will be the brand’s premier product for on-road sportbikes, taking over from the Michelin Power RS.
The Michelin City Grip 2 tires, which will launch mid-year, are the next-generation scooter tire, combining the allseason traction of the Michelin City Grip Winter tires with the longevity of the Michelin City Grip tires. Silica-based compounds and shark-tooth sipes provide excellent grip on wet or slippery surfaces, including painted lines. As an added bonus, the City Grip 2 tires are designed to deliver more mileage than their predecessors. Along with all of the new tires comes a new vigilance for consistent pricing. Beginning January 1, 2020, Michelin will be enforcing an IUMAP policy on all of its top-tier lines, including the Power 5, Road 5, Road 5 GT, Commander III, Scorcher, Anakee Adventure, Anakee Wild, StarCross 5, and City Grip 2 tire lines. “2020 is an exciting product launch year, and the right time to implement an IUMAP policy for both the United States and Canada,” notes Messner. “This new policy will help protect margins for dealers that choose to partner with Michelin and our premium products.” ■

A group of 14 Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties sales reps and managers got to experience this firsthand on a weeklong visit in November that ping-ponged from France to Spain to Luxembourg to Germany. It was a whirlwind trip that took them from the streets of Paris and the waters of the river Seine, south to Michelin’s headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand for insight into the company’s history

Other highlights included haute cuisine prepared by chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants, an overnight stay in an elaborate 16th century chateau near Bordeaux, and a visit to the picturesque seaside city of San Sebastian, Spain. The latter stop included a visit to Michelin’s factory in nearby Lasarte for a detailed tour of the tire manufacturing process from start to finish.

After this, it was off to Biarritz, France for a Michelin chartered jet to Luxembourg, and ultimately to Trier, Germany, for a grand tour of Parts Europe’s high-tech and impressive distribution center. The trip was the culmination of a 2019 sales contest that rewarded the sales reps, regional sales managers and even a national sales manager for hitting big sales numbers with Michelin tires. For those on the trip, it was also certainly the journey of a lifetime.
“Never thought I would have stayed in some of the places they arranged for us, or even eaten in some of the restaurants we went to,” says Dennis McCool, a Parts Unlimited sales rep for North East Pennsylvania. “Waking up with an ocean view of the beach in San Sebastian was just breathtaking, I had to pinch myself a few times thoughout the trip. The entire trip was just top notch through and through.”

Michelin’s Technology Center in Ladoux, France is the company’s research and development headquarters. The high-tech facility looks like a number of whole city blocks built under one roof. It’s also home to the company’s tire proving grounds.
The trip was as focused on embracing the unique cuisine and various cultures throughout this region of western Europe as it was on offering the group a thorough understanding of the innovative company founded by brothers Andre and Edouard Michelin in 1889.
earthmover tires and aircraft tires. Then came Michelin’s early forays into racing including Formula 1 and then its leap into MotoGP, with Freddie Spencer claiming the 1983 Championship on a Michelin radial rear tire. It was almost an overwhelming wealth of information.
Starting in Paris, the journey carried on to Clermont-Ferrand, where attendees got their first look at Michelin’s presence in this city in the Avergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France.
“It was very interesting to see the first tires all the way up to the Concorde and Space Shuttle tires,” said Greg ‘Gunny’ Stilwell, the dual Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties regional sales manager for the Central region. “The biggest takeaway I got there was how they didn’t necessarily look for a need and then fill it. They actually created the need, and then filled it. Making some of the earliest road maps and getting roads named enabled people to drive or ride further, which created a higher demand for tires in general.”
A major attraction here is l’Aventure Michelin, the company’s on-site museum that details its origins, dating back to its development of the first detachable bicycle tire. It continues on through to the birth of Bibendum (AKA the Michelin Man), the launch of the influential red Michelin restaurant guides, the publication of its first road maps, its efforts to lobby the French government for the first road signs, and the development of the first radial tires. The group received the complete overview of company history leading up to the development of its first

reps got a detailed look at Michelin’s focus on innovation, a main element of the company’s DNA since its inception. A tour highlighted how these technological innovations are ‘cross pollinated’ across market segments and tire categories. For example, tire sipes developed for truck and auto tires, are now integrated into Michelin’s Road 5 motorcycle tire. One exciting display showed a future concept where consumers may one day be able to mount 3D printed car tires can be adapted with new tread patterns to match the road conditions or terrain of a specific day of driving. According to Scot Clark, Two-Wheel Marketing Manager for Michelin North America, this is all evidence of the company’s history as a premium tire manufacturer that has a rich history of creative innovation and a culture of delivering high quality products that help improve the “mobility experience.” Even more so, the company does so on a massive worldwide scale and is backed by employees who are proud to contribute to the success of the organization.
Luckily, the group was at the right place to see all of this technology in action. The Ladoux proving grounds features a collection of 21 test tracks that include wet and dry conditions, handling tests, noise tests and other assorted areas. For one special demonstration, the group was split into smaller parties, each bundled into two chase cars that then followed a Michelin test rider as he demonstrated high-speed handling of Michelin’s motorcycle tires on a sport-touring bike. With the chase cars following closely at speeds of up to 130 mph on a straight away, the test demonstrated the stability of the tires by jerking the handlebars back and forth. He then took the BMW in a fast sweeping left, nearly scraping the saddlebag in a display of cornering grip. “Probably the most exciting part of the trip was the test facility and the ride-a-long in the BMWs. Wow, what an adrenaline rush!” said Torsten Corum, program coordinator at LeMans Corporation. “It really

In fact, the process is extremely hands-on, starting with assembling the various components that go into the tires, to building the layers of the tire right down to the final inspection. Here, highly trained individuals visually inspect and handle every tire as its comes off the line, with calibrated eyes that see even the smallest imperfections.
With everyone’s adrenaline pumping, the tour bid goodbye to the Ladoux facility and hit the road, bound for Michelin’s tire manufacturing factory in Lasarte, Spain. Along the way, the group spent one night at the Chateau des Vigiers, a golf resort in Dordogne Périgord region of South West France where the main chateau is known as the Little Versailles. The follow day it was onward to the Spanish coast and San Sebastian. Getting the opportunity to view the tire manufacturing process at the Lasarte facility was certainly eye-opening. This factory is where the majority of Michelin’s radial motorcycle tires are produced, a lineup that includes the Road and Power lines, as well as the new Commander III Cruiser tire and the Scorcher 11 tires. While most of the process is automated, it was amazing how much still requires the human touch. PARTS MAGAZINE

After the Lasarte factory tour concluded, it was back to San Sebastian for the night where, as you might expect, the accommodations in Spain were top notch, as the was the food. Everyone in the group was given an ocean-facing room at the hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra, and the large meal of tapas that night had to be seen to be believed. The group rolled out early the next morning north to the small coastal town of Biarritz, France where a Michelinchartered jet was waiting to take the now seasoned travelers on their final leg of the journey – a flight to Luxembourg, the nearest airport over the border from Parts Europe’s headquarters in Trier, Germany.

The roaming contingent of Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties reps and managers were given a hearty welcome by their European counterparts, starting with a thorough briefing on Parts Europe’s growth by Parts Europe general manager Hans Lautem and Parts Europe sales manager Xavier Williart. The two recounted the origins and history of the company that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. This was followed by a guided tour of Parts Europe’s expansive high-tech distribution center. The group wrapped things up that evening with a dinner at the Park Plaza Hotel restaurant in Trier, with Lautem and some of Parts Europe’s other management team in attendance. From the moment the group piled into the Hotel Hoxton in Paris to that final dinner, and all points in between it was a trip of epic proportions, a true VIP experience from start to finish. The multi-course meals were phenomenal – even all the duck! – and the accommodations were impressive.

A major highlight of the trip was the trip to the Ladoux tire proving ground where the group got to see Michelin’s tires in high-speed action. Michelin photo
Additionally, the trip offered the group an eye-opening look into Michelin’s history and culture of innovation. They got to see firsthand how much Michelin values quality and attention to detail, and is focused on the technology that is driving not just the motorcycle or automobile market, but the entire mobility sector as a whole. Just as its done since those first removable bicycle tires and since the ground-breaking development of radial tires, Michelin is always thinking a step ahead, not only meeting today’s demands, but working hard to create more reasons to enjoy and use its high-quality, highperformance products. “For any rep that hasn’t been on this kind of trip, you owe it to yourself to earn one,” said ‘Gunny’ Stilwell. “Not only will you be providing a great service to your dealers when you sell them such a quality tire, you’ll go on the trip of a lifetime!” ■

inter is going to really settle in during the next few months, and for people in colder climates, that means a lot of snow and a lot of work. Moose Utility Division has everything customers need to get their ATV or UTV outfitted for winter maintenance, whether that’s plowing, spreading ice-melting material or daily tasks that can’t wait for spring. The latest additions to the Moose Utility Division winter line-up are the RM-5 plow and V-plow. Like all of the company’s plows, these latest options are made in the USA and designed for both durability and ease of use. The RM-5 plow fits ATVs and UTVs, and it is easy to hook up thanks to a simple pull-pin system. The triangulated push tube is made from heavy-duty 2-inch square steel tubing for maximum strength. The RM-5 features 30 inches of lift, and it is compatible with all of Moose Utility Division’s straight or county blades. The standard plow blade has a

curved design that provides better snow and dirt roll-off at any angle, while the county plow blade features a wing design and a blade curve that guides snow up and away from the surface that is being cleared. The V-plow is for larger vehicles of 700cc and up, and it has a manual adjust system so a customer can fine-tune the setup. The V-plow blades, available in 72-inch or 82-inch sizes, taper up from the center of the blade to increase the plowing capacity. Customers can also opt for a hydraulic turn kit to aid with blade angle adjustments. Moose Utility Division also has tire chains for ATVs, making it easy to travel over snow and ice while increasing pulling capacity for those winter jobs. The chains are available for virtually any ATV thanks to four different sizes, and each set comes packaged in a toolbox-style storage case for safekeeping in the warmer months. A tire chain tensioner is also available to keep chains tight and even once they have been mounted. The heavy rubber tensioners, sold in pairs, have seven connection points that mount to the chain. Going out in winter weather often means dealing with bad visibility, and a beacon warning light helps make an ATV easier to spot by others. The 12-Volt light has a heavyduty magnetic base so no drilling is necessary. A 12-foot power cord makes the placement options virtually limitless. The beacon light can be paired with an extension pole that bolts onto an ATV rack to give the light another 2½ feet of height. The top platform of the pole allows the magnetic light to mount securely. ■

Valvetrain Anniversary New Kits from a Veteran Company
W
ith 2019 wrapping up, Kibblewhite Precision Machining, Inc. (KPMI) can look back at not just a successful year, but a successful 80 years of designing and manufacturing valvetrain components for the motorcycle industry. It has been eight decades since the first components hit the market in 1939, and the company is still in family hands – founder James L. Kibblewhite retired after 50 years, turning operations over to his son William F. Kibblewhite, who is still at the helm. Between manufacturing ready-made parts for aftermarket use, producing components for OEMs and other production endeavors, KPMI produces a broad range of products. Among that list of items are two new kits for off-road applications, including a top end service kit and a cylinder head service kit.
KPMI’s cylinder head kit is an all-in-one setup that features everything necessary to completely refresh and upgrade the cylinder heads of popular off-road bikes and UTV models.
The top end service kit is designed specifically for the high-performance demands of popular models found in motocross and ATV racing. The kit includes everything needed for a top-end rebuild, including the piston, valves, spring kit, gaskets, rings, pins, and clips. Each 2618 aluminum alloy piston is fully CNC-machined and includes a performance skirt coating to ensure consistent compression and smooth operation. Based on the application, the kits are supplied with either KPMI’s White Diamond® or Black Diamond™ valves. Both
styles are standard-sized one-piece forgings made from high-performance stainless steel, and they have excellent durability even under strenuous racing conditions. The top end service kit also includes KPMI’s lightweight racing spring kit, adding to the performance focus. The titanium retainers are lightweight but extremely tough. The spring kit is compatible with high-performance cams, allowing customers to make further mods to their motors if desired. KPMI currently offers the top end service kit for multiple Honda and Yamaha off-road motorcycle and ATV models. The KPMI cylinder head service kit contains everything necessary to completely refresh and upgrade cylinder heads for popular off-road motorcycle and UTV models, including KPMI’s high-quality racing valvetrain components. The complete cylinder head service kit includes a Cometic top end gasket kit, a full set of KPMI standard-sized stainless-steel valves, a KPMI high-performance titanium spring kit and KPMI’s bronze valve guides. The service kit can save time and money on a cylinder head rebuild without sacrificing an ounce of quality. In fact, KPMI says their valvetrain components have as much as double the service life as their OEM counterparts.
Packed up and available for one part number, the top end service kit makes rebuilding a top end a snap. It includes the piston, valves, springs, gaskets, rings, pins, and clips.
KPMI’s cylinder head service kit has a wide range of model applications with a focus on competition-level vehicles. ■

Advanced, Lightweight Protection

lpinestars has launched a new addition to its motocross range, the S-M8 helmet, which was designed to offer riders one of the most advanced, protective and performanceenhancing helmets the company has produced.
Maintaining shell integrity is vital for safety. With the possibility of multi-directional forces impacting on the visor, separation at the critical point of loading reduces potentially damaging leverage and rotational accelerations that can cause injury to the rider’s neck and spine.
The new S-M8 features excellent ventilation, an extreme level of comfort and a light weight. In developing the S-M8, Alpinestars drew deeply from its depth of experience in high-level innovation across all types of motorsports, and from its deep-rooted commitment to motocross.
Other key features include the patented A-head fitting height and angle adjustment system as well as of Multi-
HELMETS
Introducing the S-M8
The S-M8 is a helmet which allows riders to push the limits of performance, benefiting from confidence inspiring safety technology, reduced weight and a supremely well-fitting and ultra-ventilated construction for optimized comfort while riding. The S-M8 shell utilizes a highly advanced molding technology with a multi-composite combination for high levels of protection, while the smooth outer layer is streamlined and free of any external channels and features that might act as a load point in an impact, or compromise the overall integrity of the construction. Another key feature is the S-M8 shell sizing solution – each helmet fit size has its own appropriate shell size to deliver a superior fit that covers a wide variety of fitment needs.
Alpinestars’ new S-M8 helmet offers advanced, lightweight and comfortable protection.
This helmet is also equipped with Alpinestars’ unique visor release system that ensures the mounting is held securely in place for riding over the most extreme terrain and any track conditions. It also provides exactly the right level of resistance to ensure the visor detaches from the helmet shell if it is subjected to a significant impact, no matter what the angle. The visor release mechanism is conceived to avoid the inherent weaknesses in other types of anchoring systems.
Directional Impact Protection Systems (MIPS). These reduce rotational motion energies that impact the helmet by allowing the inner absorption layer to damp and redirect the energy before it would reach the skull. There is also an emergency release system and a hydration system-compatible lining design for easy and quick fitting connection to a hydration system. ■

inter is here and heated grips are a great option for keeping hands toasty while out on the road. Avon Grips has a range of heated options for a broad line of metric applications, including those new Indian Motorcycle models as well as Victory bikes. Featuring the company’s AHG technology, the grips are internally wired for easy installation, and all include brackets to fit on 1-inch handlebars, optional brackets are available separately for fitment on custom 1¼-inch handlebars. For the Indian Scout, the heated grip kits come with an insert to fit the rocker switch on a 7/8-inch bar. Avon’s heated grip lineup includes many of its popular styles and finishes. There are heated Air Cushion Anodized grips, heated Anodized Boss and Anodized Spike styles. Heated Air Cushion Chrome, Chrome Boss and Chrome Spike styles are also available, and so are the Custom Contour grips in Anodized, Anodized Spike, Chrome and Chrome Spike. There’s likely a custom look and comfortable grip-feel to suit nearly all of your metric, Indian or Victory customers. Then there’s that new AHG Module technology that’s now incorporated into all heated Avon Grips. Your customers like to add lots of extra electronics to their bikes – from powerful audio setups with multiple amps and LED lighting, to heated seats and heated riding gear. All of these add-ons can put a serious draw on the motorcycle’s battery and its charging system resulting in electrical surges when one or more of these added accessories are switched on or off. This is often the cause of any number of malfunctions in those electronics. The AHD Modules filter and trap these surges as they occur, protecting the grips from the chance of electronic dysfunction. With AHD technology in the grips, riders are assured that the heated grips on their bike aren’t going to be the victim, or the cause, of some electrical failure. Now’s the time to get customers ready for cold-weather riding, and a pair of heated grips can go a long way towards keeping things comfortable. ■

Bringing Vintage Back to Life
Y
our customers who cut their teeth on the bikes and ATVs of the 1970s and 1980s are back in the game and are actively searching out rebuildable, restorable examples of those early machines. We’re talking classics like the Honda CB750s, 900s and 1100 Super Sports, the Kawasaki KZs and Z1s, the Suzuki GS, and even the small dual-sports of the era and the original design ATVs. And, it’s not just those seasoned riders, your customers too young to have experienced any of those machines firsthand are also getting into the vintage scene, digging out barn finds and garaged beauties for restoration. Bringing those machines back to their original, asdelivered condition or maybe even a little better isn’t always easy, though, and the electrical systems are often a stumbling block. All new mechanicals topped with fresh paint and chrome won’t mean much if the starting, charging and ignition systems are still stone-cold dead. Rick’s Motorsport Electrics has what is needed to ditch those electrical gremlins and refresh those machines. For years the techs at Rick’s have offered a customrebuild service. Fans of those classics could send in their non-operational electrical components and get them returned good as new, or even better with some modern technologies tucked inside. Over time it became apparent what vintage bikes and ATV were most popular, what parts had failed and what was being sent in most often. Those parts were moved from the custom-rebuild department into regular-production at Rick’s, all made available brand-new, off-the-shelf and ready to go with no waiting.

There are also replacement alternator rotors, new CDI boxes to replace discontinued factory units and Hot Shot upgrades that produce a hotter, stronger spark. All this is available and Parts Unlimited has it ready for immediate delivery, no waiting required. o you remember carburetor jet kits, and the trial-and-error that it often took your techs and customers to get bikes running properly after an exhaust swap or airbox mod? Those days of tedious tuning are all but behind us now, but that doesn’t mean that today’s sophisticated motorcycles are any easier to modify. Unless of course, you have a Power Vision tuner from DynoJet.
Power Vision can be installed on the bike or used to reflash the ECU and then be removed. The benefit here is that there are no injector leads to hook up or wiring
In today’s world of fuel-injected, ride-by-wire, computerized machines, no service center or home hot-rodder should be without a Power Vision module from DynoJet. The Power Vision tuner is a stateof-the-art device that offers complete reprogramming of a vehicle’s onboard computer. Plug it in, transfer the desired map or enact the needed changes, and the vehicle is ready to go without any physical modifications or added equipment. No jets to swap or air screws to fiddle with, and no injector leads to plug in or wires to tap, either. DynoJet’s Power Vision fits in the palm of your hand and communicates with vehicles via their diagnostic port using readily available cables. Now in its third generation, Power Vision can be used on Can-Am, Honda, Indian, Polaris, and Yamaha equipment to fully modify the vehicle’s factory parameters. Power Vision doesn’t just let your customers adjust fuel curves and ignition timing, this device grants access to nearly every facet of a vehicle’s electronic controls. From radiator-fan activation temperature to the shift timing on Honda’s DCT machines, Power Vision gives your customers complete, unprecedented control. And since Power Vision is already reading data from all of the vehicle’s electronics, the module can be used as live gauges for tuning and system monitoring. The finishing touch on any 2-stroke pipe is the silencer, and Pro Circuit offers four choices for the 2020 KTM 300 XC TPI and 2020 Husqvarna TE 300i. For pure performance, the R-304 Shorty or Ti-2 Shorty silencers are the way to go. These compact, race-only silencers are made from choice materials. The R-304 utilizes stainless-steel components and a brushedaluminum body for durability, while the Ti-2 has titanium tubing and end caps along with a carbon-Kevlar body for the ultimate in weight savings. All Pro Circuit silencers feature removable end caps for quick and easy repacking.
The 304 Factory Sound silencer is designed to help reduce noise output. The brushed aluminum skin and stainless steel inlet tube and end-cap results in a silencer that looks as good as it performs.

ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES

Electrical Accessories Made Easy
T
oday’s motorcycles, side-by-sides and ATVs come equipped with an amazing array of features and accessories, but many customers will want to further customize their rides with products like heated grips, GPS, an extra-loud horn, or other fun gadgets. These mods can make your customers’ riding or driving experience more enjoyable and safer, but supplying all that stuff with electrical power can be complicated, messy and frustrating. Thankfully, Rowe Electronics has an incredibly sophisticated, yet simple solution for adding electrical accessories – the PDM60 and Amplink PDM. Connecting accessories directly to a vehicle’s battery may be convenient for your clients, but it’s just a matter of time before some gadget gets left on and drains the battery flat, plus they can only stack so many ring terminals on those battery bolts. The PDM60 and Bluetooth-enabled Amplink PDM are a smarter, safer solution for hooking up accessories and provide six 12-volt output circuits with a total capacity of 60 Amps.
With Rowe Electronics PDM60, your customers can add or remove aftermarket electrical devices with ease. The device can be customized to handle different amperages for individual circuits.
The PDMs are designed to connect directly to the vehicle’s battery and efficiently power your customer’s electronic devices when the ignition switch is turned on. Both the PDM60 and Amplink PDM use advanced technology to constantly monitor and evaluate each of the six circuits, and they can differentiate between typical voltage spikes and true fault conditions to properly protect equipment. If a short or over-current situation arises, the PDMs will immediately shut down power to that circuit. Once the problem is resolved the unit can be reset by cycling the ignition key. All this in an easy to install package that’s only slightly larger than a pack of playing cards. With the PDM60 and Amplink PDM installed, adding or removing aftermarket electrical devices is a breeze. Gone are the days of blown fuses, tangled wiring, overloaded circuits, relays, CANbus-related power interruptions, and other hassles. There are no fuses to check or replace thanks to the devices’ internal circuitry, and LED indicators give your customers at-a-glance circuit info. The standard PDM60 is ready to go right out of the box, but for those interested in adjusting the parameters, the device is fully programmable via a USB cable, laptop, and the free Rowe Electronics program. Customization options include setting the amperage for individual circuits as well as adjusting the timing of the startup and shutdown delays. The Amplink PDM offers the same total amperage and circuit count, but brings Bluetooth connectivity to the table
The Amplink PDM also offers the same functionality, but includes Bluetooth connectivity for wireless programming and control.
for wireless programming and control via the free Amplink app. Additional benefits of the Amplink unit include streamlined wiring, easier setup and adjustment, and immediate circuit feedback on the smartphone app. ■

n powersports, there are a lot of small things that make a big difference, whether it’s something that makes a bike run better or a part that helps keep everything in place on a trailer. PSR has a number of small parts that have a big impact on performance and practicality. PSR’s manual cam chain tensioner fits a wide range of street and off-road motorcycles as well as ATVs and UTVs. Each tensioner is CNC machined from billet aluminum to make it a lightweight but strong replacement for the stock automatic or hydraulic tensioner. The manual cam chain tensioner means that a lot of problems caused by stock tensioners can be eliminated with a simple adjustment. Out-of-timing issues, excess tension, premature engine wear and cam chain rattling can all be a thing of the past with a little fine-tuning. PSR’s billet tie-down clamps are ideal for transporting all styles of powersports vehicles, including personal watercraft and snowmobiles. The clamps are nearly universal because they clamp securely onto any 1¼-inch to 1½-

ff-road racing demands a lot of both the rider and the vehicle, which is why every component has to withstand the toughest of terrain. For Sunstar, that means the XTG Works TripleGuard sealed chain was built to meet the most challenging demands for off-road motorcycle and ATV racing. The XTG Works chain is Sunstar’s high-level off-road racing chain, and it packs a lot of perks into its 100-link and 120-link sizes. Because of the available lengths, the 520
chain is an ideal choice for motorcycles and ATVs of 750cc or smaller, covering a lot of different models. It also boasts a tensile strength rating of 8,500 pounds. A big part of withstanding the elements is keeping the chain clean no matter how much dirt, mud and water a bike encounters. The secret weapon of the XTG Works chain is Sunstar’s unique TripleGuard (TG) sealed ring design. There are three sealing lips and lubrication pools on each side of the ring. That TG design provides lubrication while also guarding the critical areas of the chain from sand, dirt and other harsh environmental elements. The gold-plated inner and outer side plates are there for more than just looks. The gold inner plate resists rust and corrosion better than standard materials, and that in turn extends the life of the chain.

BATTERY CHARGERS
Smart Battery Leads Keep Batteries Healthy
B
oth 12V sealed AGM lead-acid and 12.8V / 13.2V Lithium batteries risk a shorter lifespan if deep discharged; the lower the voltage drops, the higher the risk, especially for lithium batteries.
It’s best to keep that battery above the recommended minimum charge level – for lithium that level is 30 percent, or 13V, and for a sealed AGM lead-acid battery it is 50 percent, or 12.4V. In a vehicle, a battery slowly discharges due to draw by always-on circuitry, including the processor that retains vehicle settings. A Lithium battery can discharge within weeks as it has less reserve capacity – Amp hour – than a lead-acid battery does. OptiMate’s new smart battery leads make it easy to monitor battery charge level in stored and showroom vehicles. The innovative dual ring design allows easy hookup to ¼-inch or 5/16-inch battery posts. A blinking green, yellow or red LED light indicates charge level. OptiMate O-127 (p/n 3807-0319) is ideal for 12.8V / 13.2V lithium batteries. For 12V AGM & STD lead-acid batteries the OptiMate O-124 (p/n 3807-0317) is the right choice, also available in a Jar of 20 (p/n 3807-0491). hen a rider asks for a chain, whether it’s something strong and long-lasting for sport-touring, able to stand up to the rigors and stress of Adventure riding, or simply for a dual-sport rider wanting a quality replacement, Regina Chain has what they’re looking for. Being that the company has been focusing on premium chains for motorcycles since 1939, you can bet that’s going to be a quality product at a great price. Parts Unlimited has all of this: Regina’s high-performance ZRT chains for sport and sport-touring, the ZRE lineup adventure riders need and, for the budget-minded dualsport riders there’s Regina’s Black Dual chains, the ZRAs. Regina Chain has drive chains that are designed and built to stand up to the rigors and stress of Adventure and dual-sport riding.
Regina has chain-and-sprocket kits, too. These applications cover popular Adventure and dual-sport bikes such as the Honda XR650L, the Kawasaki KLR650 and the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom. With no compromise throughout, the ZRT street/sporttouring chains are assembled with high-carbon alloy steel, and the solid bushings, rollers, pins and plates are shot-peened. With Z-Ring seals there’s reduced elongation for high mileage. The Adventure-bound Regina ZREs are equally stout, assembled with more of those high-carbon alloy steel bushings, rollers, pins and plates, shot-peened and protected with special Z-Ring seals that extend lubrication intervals and durability. And those economic dual-purpose Black Duals ZRA chains have the same high-quality components, just without the gold color plates. ■

ne of the most common machines that led the popular tidal wave of UTV recreation and racing in the powersports world is the Polaris RZR 800. While these machines have evolved across various new models and platforms, there are still many RZR 800s on the trail and in garages today. ProX Racing Parts’ new line of Polaris 800 pistons are making better-than-new performance at an affordable price a possibility for all your customers looking for more seasons of fun out of their 800s. These pistons are manufactured from an AC8A cast alloy, equivalent to the material used in the OEM parts. This alloy offers low thermal expansion and a stable structure for long-term reliable performance. The performance doesn’t stop at the OEM level. ProX added a hard-anodize coating to the fully-machined piston crown and ring grooves to improve heat and wear resistance, and reduce chances of ring micro-welding. An MOS2 skirt coating was also added to the piston design to better conform to the cylinder bore throughout break-in.
ProX has a new line of replacement pistons for those popular Polaris RZR 800 side-by-sides. They offer an upgrade over stock, and a nice performance boost.
This allows for a tighter running fit and reduces friction during engine operation, resulting in increased performance and reduced wear. ProX RZR 800 pistons are available in standard bore (79.95mm) and incremental oversizes (79.96mm and 79.97mm) so users can retain proper piston-to-wall clearance, even on slightly worn cylinders. Each piston kit contains the piston, rings, wrist pin and circlips. They are available for 2009 – 2014 RZR 800 models and 2008 – 2009 Sportsman 800s. ■

hen Braking collaborates on the development of a product, they turn to some of the world’s top racers and teams for partnership. While that has led to Braking having 123 world racing titles, it has also allowed the company to produce high-level performance products that have been honed by toplevel competitors. One of those performance products is the SK2 front brake rotor for on-road and roadracing use.
The SK2 rotor from Braking is lightweight and is designed to provide consistent, fade-free braking for on-road and roadracing use.
The SK2 rotor is made from AISI410 stainless steel, and it is held in place by a directional aluminum carrier, which helps save weight. The unit is heat-treated and finished with CNC
machining. The floating disc design includes pins that are inserted at a 14-degree angle, which optimizes the load transfer from the rotor to the carrier while under braking. The non-round design of both the inner and outer edges of the SK2 rotor allow a better radial expansion of the discs under extreme heat conditions, such as under heavy braking during racing. The ability to shed heat at a faster rate is built into the design, as well, which means that braking is more consistent and the rotors maintain their progressive braking power. Both the rotor and the carrier feature strategically-placed cutouts with a specific angle and shape. An improvement over the typical round holes, these updated designs increase brake pad regeneration and improve braking response at high temperatures. As an added bonus, they also help to further decrease the weight of the rotor for even more of a performance edge. ■

our parts counter employees probably only hear about your customers’ batteries when their bikes won’t crank. The truth is, modern lead-acid batteries typically have a lifespan of just three to five years. Luckily, there’s a simple tip you can offer your customers to help them extend battery life. Maintaining a full charge is the best way to keep a battery happy, and the most enjoyable way for your customers to accomplish that is to ride or drive their vehicles often. When that’s not possible, say, because winter has rolled in, it’s important that the battery be hooked up to a maintenance charger like those offered by Battery Tender®. And, when it comes to battery chargers, there are quite a few to choose from. A good option is a modern smart charger like a Battery Tender Junior 800, which monitors battery voltage and adjusts its charging protocol to keep the battery in peak condition. The Battery Tender Junior 800 (p/n 3807-0403) is an affordable, easy to use charger that will keep any 12V AGM, Gel, flooded, or lithium battery healthy for longer thanks
