New York bound, via the Apache Trail east of Phoenix. In 2014 Don Emde led a group of 25 on a coast to coast ride, retracing Cannon Ball Baker’s route from 1914. Kinney Jones photo

t’s no surprise to me that the largest area of growth in America’s motorcycle market is the Dual-Sport/Adventure bike segment. Up 10% in 2018, Adventure bikes are getting better, lighter, and more capable, thanks to the many aftermarket manufacturers in constant development of one nifty new product after another. The end results are motorcycles that work better in the dirt, as well as being more enjoyable for long days on the highway. I had the chance to personally experience the benefits of Adventure bikes a few years back when I created a project to retrace a transcontinental route taken by Erwin “Cannon Ball” Baker back in 1914. Baker had ridden from San Diego to New York City in just 11 ½ days, the fastest anyone at that time had gotten across the country by any means.

This section of the Apache Trail is the same as it was 105 years ago when Cannon Ball Baker rode through here on a 61cubic inch Indian. Kinney Jones photo

The project—documented in my book Finding Cannon Ball’s Trail—involved a group of 25 riders, all on Adventure bikes, joining me on a ride that started in San Diego exactly 100 years to the day from Baker’s ride. The 3,000+ mile journey took us east on sandy trails in the California desert, down dirt roads in Arizona, then east across the Great Plains to New York on historic highways such as the Santa Fe Trail and the National Road. In this issue we are featuring a special section putting the spotlight on Dual-Sport and Adventure bikes, as well as the purpose-built riding gear from Alpinestars and Moose Racing. Be sure to check out the section, which begins on page 32. Also in this issue is our report on the first-ever NVP Product Expo held in Louisville, Kentucky. Wow, what a great event that was. In fact, it was the biggest dealer event the company has ever produced. The coverage begins on page 18. Over in the world of racing, a number of Parts Unlimitedsponsored riders are doing well so far this season. At press time, Thor riders Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin are 1-2 in the 450 Supercross standings, while at the season opener of the AFT-sanctioned Daytona TT, Parts Unlimited/ Drag Specialties-sponsored Indian rider Briar Bauman took the victory. Best wishes for a successful kickoff to the 2019 riding season.

avvy dealers know that late winter is no time to sit back with their feet up, waiting for the sales season to start. Nope, the smart money is on getting the early scoop on the products and programs that are going to keeps sales ringing for the rest of the year. The place to find all that action? The Parts Unlimited Spring NVP Product Expo, and this year’s inaugural launch at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville was a banging success as dealers and sales reps from around the country packed in to see the latest and greatest. Apparently, the promise of seeing the hottest new products from more than 240 leading vendors – including 25 brands that were new to the Expo – and the opportunity to

get a detailed education on select product lines proved to be a major attraction. At more than 88,000 square feet, this Spring NVP was the largest Expo ever put on by the LeMans Corporation, and that added show space not only allowed for larger displays showcasing all those hot new products, it also helped to accommodate the record number of attendees and hosted the NVP’s first ever fashion show. “Our first year in Louisville could not have gone better. Thank you to the dealers, vendors and our team for working the weekend with us,” says Jeff Derge, LeMans Corporation’s vice president of sales. “This show is such an important part of improving our industry.”

On the Thursday and Friday before the show opened, Parts Unlimited’s army of sales reps, sales managers and LeMans personnel received intense sales and product training from such vendors as AFX, Arrowhead Engineering, Bassani Xhaust, Cobra, Custom Dynamics, FMF, GIVI, Klock Werks, Rekluse, Trinity Racing, Wiseco, and Z1R. All that detailed education didn’t end there. Some early Saturday morning sessions for reps and dealers alike included seminars from Alpinestars, Icon, LePera, Metzeler, and TecMate. All of these events were just a prelude to the grand opening of the show floor, where dealers enjoyed expanded Expo hours all weekend for getting ample time to visit exhibitors and see the newest products. Saturday’s show ended with a dealer happy hour and the inaugural 2019 Spring Apparel Fashion Show. A range of male and female models showcased new collections from more than 15 brands, including Arctiva, Biltwell, Icon, Moose Racing, Slippery, THRASHIN Supply Co., THOR, and Z1R. Given a busy schedule like this, the collective powersports industry group attending the show headed over to the Sports & Social Club in the heart of Louisville’s 4th Street Live! district for the now iconic LeMans Meet & Greet. Attendees enjoyed food, drinks, games, robust camaraderie and the Arlington Supercross on more than 60 TVs. Sunday found the convention center expo hall just as packed as dealers finished up their rounds with the assembled vendors. At the closing of the show, one lucky vendor – Ryan Moore of Athens Sport Cycles – won a trip to the 2019 Parts Unlimited Dealer Ride in St. George, UT . “What a way to kick off the 2019 season. I’ve never felt such enthusiasm and optimism from dealers, vendors and reps,” says Mike Collins, president of LeMans Corporation. “We all need events like this as a reminder as to why we are in this business. It was a fantastic gathering and we’ve set the bar high for our next event.”

One thing is certain, Brian Deegan is always entertaining. From top privateer Supercross rider and founding member of the Metal Mulisha and one of the first professional Freestyle motocross rider, to a reinvented career as a championship-winning off-road truck racer, he was the bad boy who made good. Nowadays, Deegan finds himself in a somewhat different role – doting father and patriarch leading a multi-discipline motorsports family involved in multiple forms of twowheel and four-wheel racing.

With the backing of THOR MX, the man who became the most decorated Freestyle motocross rider in X-Game history and his wife Marissa now get to enjoy watching as their children excel in their chosen sports. His daughter Hailie is racking up championships in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Pro Series, his son, THOR rider Haiden Deegan, rips it up as one of the top amateur motocross riders, and youngest son Hudson Deegan continues to impress with his growing talent as a motocross rider. Talent like that easily lends itself to the world of THOR, which counts many of the greatest riders in the history of motocross and Supercross as members of the club. With Deegan serving as something as a brand ambassador and Haiden showcasing that championship-winning racewear up on the podium, you can easily say that they’re a THOR family.

“Brian and the kids are a huge asset to the THOR brand. Between Brian’s freestyle success and Haiden and Hudson’s racing success, the family has a huge fan base, which has translated to a massive social media following,” says Eric Storz, THOR marketing specialist. “We have a great relationship with the Deegans and they always represent the brand in a professional manner.” Although Brian Deegan was involved on and off with THOR throughout his racing career in the 90s, it wasn’t until 2016 that the whole Deegan family joined the team and they’ve never looked back. The older Deegan now serves as something of a brand ambassador for THOR, and can be found with his family at major motocross events across the country. Under the coaching of his father, son Haiden has won and continues to win multiple amateur class titles at the MiniOs, Mammoth Motocross, and Supercross Futures – the amateur racing that takes place on Sunday following the Supercross races. When not racing, Haiden trains on his KTM 85 at the family’s Deegan Compound, which features a motocross track.

The Parts Unlimited/THOR-sponsored rider – whose nickname is Dangerboy – is also the youngest rider to complete and land a back flip on a dirtbike. He’s definitely a rider to watch for in the future. “Haiden is one of the most promising young riders in the sport. As an amateur racer, he has had a lot of success, but he still manages to attend regular school and have hobbies outside of motocross, which we feel is great for the longevity of his career,” says Storz. “With Brian as his mentor, and an immense skillset, Haiden is on track to have a successful professional career.” As the youngest of the family, Hudson is also loaded with talent. Training at the family compound and coached by Brian, Hudson is a top young motocross racer himself. He showed the world what he could do at the KTM JR. Supercross Challenge at Anaheim II. When the gate dropped Hudson got a good start, worked his way to the lead and held off the rest of the field to take the win in front of 44,000 fans. It was the second time a Deegan won a night Supercross in front of a packed stadium and it was fitting that his proud father joined Hud-

that drove his wildly successful freestyle career. That same drive that helped him, and his fellow freestylers Mike Jones and Tommy Clowers, to form the iconic Metal Mulisha and push the sport of FMX to new limits.

Not to be outdone by her younger brothers, daughter Hailie has been racing since she was young, starting first with go-karts before working her way up to the big leagues. Hailie has been the only female driver in the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro series as well as Regional series to win Championships in 2013, 2015, and 2016.

The Deegan family’s off-road exploits have garnered a massive social media following – Brian’s Instagram has 652,000 followers, Hailie’s has 349,000, Haiden’s has 574,000 followers and Hudson’s has 147,000. Meanwhile the family’s YouTube channel – Dangerously Deegan – has 361,000 subscribers, with dozens of videos that have received millions of views.

She was also the only youth ever to win the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro series Driver of the Year award, which she picked up in 2016. In 2018, the 17-year-old became the first female driver to win a NASCAR K&N Pro Series race. Getting to witness his children’s success is likely just what Brian was looking for when he stepped away from the freestyle world and reinvented himself as an off-road racer. He invested in an off-road truck and went to four-wheel racing. He started racing off-road trucks in 2008 and eventually came to dominate the sport, winning multiple Pro-Lite and Pro-2 Lite Championships as well as X-Games Gold in Rally Cross. It’s apparent that Deegan has been able to instill in his children the same talent, determination and work ethic

Make no mistake, the Deegan family is a pure motorsports dynasty and THOR is right there, front and center. “Brian is one of the most iconic freestyle riders of all time, so to have him as a THOR athlete and ambassador is invaluable,” says Storz. “His popularity and achievements put him up there with some of the most accomplished athletes that THOR has ever supported.” ■

he Adventure and dual-sport category of motorcycles has been steadily expanding in the past decade, and for good reason – it’s a range of extremely versatile motorcycles that can take your customers anywhere they want to go. Need to do some serious off-roading? There’s a bike for that. Need enough storage and grunt to cross the country? There’s a bike for that. Need to have an alert riding position to help conquer urban gridlock? There’s a bike for that. Need one to do a mix of it all? Well, there are quite a few bikes for that. Smaller displacement dual-sport motorcycles can tackle mountain trails and paved roads with equal vigor, and their relatively low purchase price, standard operating platform, and utility effectiveness makes them a target for beginner and experienced riders alike.

DUAL SPORTING

Larger displacement Adventure models are the SUVs of the two-wheel world and represent an ever-growing share of the total dual-use market. They’re filled with technology, capable of light off-road travel, but mostly used by Adventure-hopeful owners for traveling the highways and byways.

Smaller displacement dual-sport models in 2018 represented about 55 percent of the total dual market while larger displacement Adventure models last year represented 45

ADVENTURE MARKET OVERVIEW B I K E S A N D G E A R F O R D U A L- S P O R T I N G percent of the total, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council. That’s a shift from 2008, when smaller models represented a whopping 76 percent of the market and Adventure models accounted for only 24 percent. As represented by those numbers, this segment has grown increasingly popular and bucked the overall negative sales trend following the 2008 downturn and rebounded at a quicker pace than other segments. While dual sport motorcycles in 2018 still only represented 9½ percent of new motorcycle sales, according to the MIC, it is interesting to note the increasing number of models being offered by OEMs, who supplied a combined 85 dual sport models in 2018. Market share leaders include Honda, KTM, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW and Yamaha, as well as Husqvarna, Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi. Popular small to mid-sized displacement models include the Honda CRF250L and 450L, Kawasaki KLX250 and KLR650, Yamaha TW200 and WR250R, Suzuki DR-Z400S and DR650S, and KTM 350 EXC-F and 690 Enduro R. Established larger displacement Adventure models include the Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, BMW F850 GS and R1250GS Adventure, KTM 1290 Super Adventure, Yamaha Super Ténéré and multiple variations of the Triumph Tiger. For 2019, fans of dual sport models can prepare to welcome the BMW F750 GS and F850 GS/Adventure models, as well as KTM’s 790 Adventure/R and Moto Guzzi V85 TT.

Outfitting the Adventure bike rider Of course, the OEM offerings are only one piece of the Adventure bike market. Once that bike is sold, your dealership and the Parts Unlimited catalogs can provide the parts and accessories that will ensure your customer’s motorcycle is properly set up when they leave the store. Then, thanks to the 2019 Helmet and Apparel Catalog, your customers can be ‘set up’ too.

“The dual-sport/Adventure market has become very important to us,” says Darren Carlson, Moose Racing brand manager. “A lot of riders who ride off-road and use Moose Racing products also purchase dual-sport/Adventure bikes so we saw this market as a great way to expand our product line and satisfy customer demand.” Another vendor in the LeMans lineup catering to your Adventure bike riders is Icon, which created its Raiden sub brand to address the needs of the modern Adventure rider. “It’s good to see the dual-sport/Adventure category heat up,” says Icon’s Justin Knauer. “OEMs have done a great job with the recently released bikes; and, the more bikes on the road, the better for all of us in the aftermarket industry.” The Raiden line was designed for the rigors of hardcore dual-sport/Adventure riding, with many of the pieces available in waterproof and breathable designs, with such handy features as multiple pockets, plenty of zipper vents, reflective accents, and D3O impact protectors. “There are several people in our office that ride Adventure bikes, and their input has helped us craft quality products that have been very popular amongst new and seasoned riders,” Knauer says. Simon Toyne from Alpinestars says their gear suits diverse weather conditions for year-round riding. He points out that the apparel needs to be versatile, waterproof, breathable, protective, lightweight, comfortable, durable, quick drying and practical “Touring and Adventure Touring is a very large part of Alpinestars’ customer base and has always been part of our focus in product development,” Toyne says. “Our presence at the Dakar Rally is a powerful demonstration of this – in recent years all of the top riders competing in the event have used Alpinestars racing gear.” The Adventure bike market is showing no signs of slowing down – just take a look at all those new 2019 model year bikes hitting the dealerships. ADV1 Saddlebag

M

oose Racing has dual-sport and Adventure Touring riders covered with a range of luggage that’s equally at home for long-haul riding as it is when things get a little rough and dirty.

For your customers on those incredibly popular Adventure bikes, weather challenges are just part of the experience. After all, look at that riding apparel geared for this market — it’s usually rugged, functional and ready to perform whether it’s in snow at 10,000-foot elevations or driving rain on the plains. Luggage for this hearty breed of riders is also of the rough and rugged variety, often hard-sided, boxy, industrial and ready to take a beating. Moose Racing has plenty to offer in that arena, but figured there was another option to offer to those Adventure-type customers. Thus was born its ADV1 lineup of dry bags and packs. The ADV1 line offers plenty of rugged durability in soft-sided luggage that’s exceptionally waterproof and extremely functional. Just look at the bags on a bike and you can see they’re the perfect complement to Moose’s ADV1 Adventure jacket and pant combo. Let’s start with the saddlebags. Constructed from heavyduty waterproof tarpaulin, the bags feature durable heat-welded seams that keep water out and away from what’s inside. To further enhance that waterproofing, the bags seal by folding over and rolling down and buckling

The bags are attached to the bike via adjustable hookand-loop straps that can be changed up to fit multiple bike seat widths. The saddlebags are available in either 20 liter or 30 liter capacities. Your customers can increase the storage capacity on the tail of their bikes by adding an ADV1 Trail Pack. Jackets or other items can be externally secured to the bag by using the dual compression straps that can be cinched down good and tight. The trail packs are available in three different sizes; 25 liter, 40 liter and 60 liter. For those lighter, nimbler dual-sport bikes, Moose Racing offers its dual-sport fender pack and small rear fender pack. Both offer handy space for storing anything from spare tubes and tools to a space jacket and an extra pair of gloves. The dual-sport fender pack features mounting hooks that grasp the edge of fender, holding it securely in place. QUALIFIER JACKET AND PANT While many Adventure bike riders opt for heavy-duty riding gear when heading out, a number of your customers also want something a little more lightweight and agile. For those riders, there’s the Qualifier jacket and pant. The Qualifier jacket makes an ideal pairing with the over-the-boot Qualifier pants. The black jacket is made of a high-denier woven polyester with double-stitched seams, all topped with high-quality sublimated graphics. The shell is water resistant, while the inner polyester mesh lining is highly breathable and wicks moisture. The jacket is designed for versatility in varying temperatures. The 2-in-1 design includes zip-off sleeves, and there are five adjustable vents, including the front and back plus pit vents. Design details for comfort include a pre-bent ergonomic sleeve design and adjustable cuffs. Storage space abounds with hand pockets, one back pocket and one inside pocket. The Qualifier jacket comes in sizes S to 5XL. The over-the-boot Qualifier pants have plenty of storage, with two hand pockets with a zipper closure. The high-denier polyester chassis has an oversized knee area with nylon inner panels for an extra layer of defense. The pre-bent leg design is supplemented by spandex stretch panels for increased mobility. High-quality YKK zippers can be found throughout, including at the lower legs, where the zippered entry makes it easy to put the pants on and to adjust knees protectors or boots. Up top, a three-point waist adjustment system allows a rider to fine-tune the fit.

f big skies and the anticipation of a full day in the saddle get your customers excited, then touring clothing is a vital part of their wardrobe.

Versatile, waterproof and comfortable, textile gear offers exceptional levels of real-world usability. It can be tailored to suit the weather conditions – if it’s hot, simply remove the lining or open a vent, if it’s cold simply add a layer and close the ventilation. This gear is practical too, the large number of pockets featured in many textile jackets and trousers are perfect for storing must-have essentials while riding. Textile apparel really can be a rider’s go-to choice for year-round riding. Alpinestars’ lineup of technical riding apparel hits all of these marks, and is protective, robust and comfortable. These details are evident in the latest piece from its Spring Collection, the Tailwind Air waterproof jacket. The CE-certified Tailwind Air waterproof jacket is an understated all-weather riding jacket, which is compatible with Alpinestars’ Tech-Air® airbag system. This is the company’s electronic, self-contained, full independent upper body motorcycle airbag system with no bike-torider set-up configurations required.

in the CE-certified back protector accommodates the system vest’s ECU. Designed to offer protection against the elements, the Tailwind Air waterproof jacket is constructed from a hardwearing 600D poly-fabric shell with a special material for excellent tear and abrasion performance. The Tailwind Air jacket also features Bio Armor on the shoulders and elbows for impact protection, while the extensive mesh panels on the chest ensure optimal airflow and cooling performance. A detachable waterproof membrane ensures it can be worn when the conditions get cold and wet. Other rider-friendly touches include accordion panels on the elbows to aid movement and comfort on the bike and volume adjusters on the waist and sleeve for an improved riding fit. Pre-curved sleeves help reduce fatigue while in the saddle, and padded areas on the sleeve and an ergonomic touring collar help keep things comfortable. Reflective details on the back make riders more visible in poor light conditions. Two front kangaroo pouch-style pockets, a zippered chest pocket and a waterproof front inner pocket provide plenty of storage.

The Tailwind Air features strategically positioned shoulder accordion stretch panel inserts designed to accommodate the Tech-Air system. These allow expansion when the airbag inflates, as well as a high level of anatomical performance and a superior fit when riding without the system.

TIRES

Digging in for Adventure New Battlax Adventurecross AX41

B

ridgestone’s new Battlax Adventurecross AX41 is a tire built for business. With its aggressive blockpattern tread both front and rear, the AX41 is set to deliver all the sure-footed, off-road traction a true Adventure rider needs. It’s the kind of performance in demand for those who view the paved roads as merely a means of getting to the real fun. Better yet, all that off-road capability is matched with a healthy dose of on-road manners and durability. Bridgestone has tagged the Adventurecross AX41 as a 40/60 tire – 40 percent on-road, 60 percent off-road. The AX41 is able to deliver a comfortable and confident on-road ride thanks to careful engineering of the blockwall-angles that optimizes their shape, positioning and spacing. But, make no mistake, it’s when the pavement ends and the adventure begins that this newest Battlax comes into its own. The Adventurecross AX41has some strong off-road capabilities making it ready to take on and tackle just about anything. Designed with the true Adventure enthusiast in mind, the kind of rider determined to explore the unknown, the aggressively engineered Adventurecross AX41 complements the mission of a modern Adventure motorcycle. With its new block-pattern tread, high crosssection area and a small pitch length, Bridgestone has been able to increase the total number of blocks over the AX41’s circumference for strong off-road performance. From soft terrain to rocky trails to muddy washes, these tires can dig in and power through. The tires are also durable because of their tough compound, approximately 30 percent more rigid than seen on previous Bridgestone Adventure tires.

Tagged a 40/60 tire – 40 percent on-road, 60 percent off-road, the Adventurecross AX41 performs on the pavement, but when taken off-road, it really excels. Soft terrain, rocky trails, muddy washes – these tires can handle it all.

Bridgestone’s new Battlax Adventurecross AX41 features an aggressive block-pattern tread both front and rear. It’s built to deliver sure-footed, off-road traction and performance.

The unique block angles are intended to counter deformation and reduce the heel-and-toe wear at the trailing edge of the block. It all adds up to well-balanced performance on the road and especially off. ■

The first sizes released, four fronts and five rears, are available now and cover larger Adventure bikes like the BMW R1200GS. The sizes are: FRONT • 100/90-19s • 110/80 B19s • 120/70 B19s • 90/90-21

K Chain’s products are designed to provide exceptional performance through a variety of environments, and from October of 2016 to July of 2018, the company showcased the capabilities and endurance of its GXW chain as two riders completed an around-the-world motorcycle trip. In this ultimate dual-sport endurance test, two riders from Lithuania, Linas Mockevicius and Asta Dovydenaite, undertook a 62,358-mile adventure that took them to 42 different countries. Through the wet and rugged jungles of Columbia and the harsh arid deserts of Africa, to a myriad of countries through Europe, the two finished in their hometown in Lithuania. They tackled this adventure aboard a 2016 BMW F800 GS and a 2008 BMW F650 GS, both of which were equipped with RK’s GB525GXW chains. Throughout the trip, the GXW chains were subjected to hot deserts, miles of mud, harsh salt pans, water crossings, and hundreds of miles of high-speed highway use.

The XW-seals feature two lubrications pools that help protect against high-speed abrasion and prevent dirt and debris from penetrating the inner rollers/bushings of the chain. This triple barrier protection means the GXW will last a good, long time. GXW’s features create a perfect balance between high tensile strength, lightweight and maximizing long wear life so that GXW can handle anything your customers can dish out.

Meanwhile, Linas and Asta continue to push RK’s chains to the limit with new adventures that have taken them around the globe. Follow their progress on Instagram @2wheeled_asta and @2wheeled_linas. ■

RK Chain recommends that your customers use a cleaner specific to motorcycle chains, and is designed to be used on sealed chains. It is not recommended that they use brake cleaner, engine cleaner or any cleaner that contains acid or caustic chemicals. RK Chain notes that these harsh ingredients can damage the chain’s seals, reducing the performance and wear life of the chain and will void the chain’s warranty.

dventure and dualsport riders are as varied as the bikes they ride. For some it’s high-performance Adventure touring, fast, on-the-road travel punctuated with limited off-pavement jaunts. For others, off-road action takes the lead, and many use their lightweight/mid-sized dualsport bikes for everything from daily commuting to quasi-enduro riding. With the Dunlop Trailsmart, the D606 and the new D605, Dunlop has the right tire for all those applications. For high-performance adventure it’s the Dunlop Trailsmart. For serious off-roaders requiring premium dirt performance, and street-legal usability, there’s the aggressively styled D606. Your customers looking for a low-cost, 50/50 do-it-all tire, should check out Dunlop’s new D605. Modern Adventure Touring mixes straight-up highway cruising, with hard charging through smooth-pavement twisties and then some exploration down a gravel or packed-dirt path, all during one afternoon’s ride. This type of riding asks a lot from a set of tires, but all that is exactly what Trailsmart was built to deliver. Designed for riders who primarily travel on the street, but also venture off-road, Trailsmart’s XGT CrossGrooving tread technology increase the tire’s all-weather/ on-road performance as well as its off-road traction.

All-Terrain Braking Pads and Rotors

EBC has a variety of brake pad options for your Adventure Touring and dual-sport riding customers. They’re designed to provide great braking power both on-road and off.

E

BC Brakes has plenty of ways to help Adventure Touring and dual-sport bikes stop better. The company offers a variety of brake pads and rotors that have applications for bikes in those categories, with everything from street options to fullrace setups. The EBC Carbon X brake pads are suitable for either street or off-road use. The pads are made from an impregnated hybrid carbon. While that material will not outlast a sintered copper brake pad, it does have the benefit of lower heat generation and transfer. That makes the Carbon X an ideal pad for riding off-road in fast, dry conditions, and it is a popular choice with enduro and hare scramble riders. Riders looking for a durable option can go for the EBC R-Series sintered pads, which have applications for both off-road motorcycles and ATVs. The sintered copper material of these heavy-duty pads offers high durability and works well in muddy conditions, sand, water and other elements. In addition, the R-Series sintered pads are designed for long pad life.

vibration problems, deliver maximum brake effect and match OEM sizing. EBC’s stainless steel front and rear Vee-Rotors are designed as an OEM replacement. The front rotors are fully floating and come in one of five colors, including black, red, blue, green and gold. The rear Vee-Rotors match the design of the fronts and are heat-treated and tempered for optimal strength. EBC also offers stainless steel rear brake rotors as an effortless OEM replacement. Mill rolled, laser cut, heat treated and tempered, the rotors replace the OEM version exactly so no changes are required. Simply install a set of new pads with them, and that is it. ■

Another sintered option, but this time for street use, is the EBC Double-H Superbike brake pad. These highperformance pads have excellent longevity and deliver consistent results even in wet weather. Their ultra-high friction makes them ideal for high-performance motorcycles. The EBC MXS Series Moto-X Race pads are specifically for off-road racing. A long-lasting sintered copper alloy ensures high durability and friction in a racing environment. Many of the applications come with an included slider pin kit for easy installation. The R-Series, the Double-H and MXS Series pads are all made in the USA. Among EBC’s rotor options for on-road motorcycle applications are the ultra-lightweight Brakes X series. SEAT CUSHIONS

//ADVENTURE MARKET OVERVIEW//

Go Wild

Cushions for Improved Comfort

Y

ou never know what’s going to happen on Wild Ass Wednesdays. The weekly Facebook Live posts from motorcycle cushion company Wild Ass differ from the more informative videos the company regularly posts on social media.

The motorcycle air cushions from Wild Ass are designed to eliminate painful pressure points, promote blood circulation, reduce vibration and allow for plenty of airflow under a rider.

Back in February, co-owner Craig Johnson demonstrated what happens when you throw a bowl of boiling water into the air when it’s -35 degrees Fahrenheit outside. That sense of fun and humor is an integral part of the Wild Ass philosophy. Johnson and his partner Scott Parman want customers to know that they aren’t just a company, but a part of the motorcycling community, whether they’re at a rally or posting online. But even so, making riders comfortable in the saddle is a mission they take very seriously.

Wild Ass offers its line of motorcycle air cushions in three different material choices – Classic, Air Gel and Lite.

Parts Unlimited is now carrying the complete line of Wild Ass motorcycle cushions. There are three styles – the wide Smart cushion is intended for larger bikes like cruisers, the narrower Sport fits on most sportbike seats and the Pillion is just the right size for a passenger. Each of the three cushion styles is available in three different materials choices, including Classic, Air Gel and Lite. Each cushion style and material combination is designed to eliminate painful pressure points, promote blood circulation, reduce shock and vibration, reduce lower back pain and allow air circulation under the rider to disperse heat and perspiration. The Classic is made of medical-grade neoprene rubber to provide elasticity and a natural feel. The neoprene reduces pressure points, promotes blood flow and reduces road vibration. Designed for long-distance riding, the Classic material choice is the premium option from Wild Ass. Wild Ass Air Gel replaces the neoprene with polyurethane air cells, which are each topped with a gel pad. The amount of air can be adjusted for optimal comfort. Johnson says a lot of thought went into the placement of the gel pads. The gel conforms to a rider’s body, while pressure on the seat is distributed across the surface thanks to the air cells. “Now that you’re suspended on air, you’ve got the air channels under there, so these will actually cool while you’re riding on them,” Johnson says. Customers who are more budget conscious, but still want a comfortable ride can spring for the third option, Lite. Those seats are made of lightweight polyurethane air cells only. Despite the lower price, the rider still benefits from excellent pressure distribution and airflow. Johnson and Parman founded Wild Ass in 2015, making their product debut at Daytona Bike Week in March of 2016. The two men had been sales managers in the industry, and felt that a premium neoprene cushion could fill a big need in the market. ■

f you want to get a glimpse of how well the Rekluse line of auto clutch products perform, take a look at the podium in any number of championship races. In 2018 alone, Rekluse-supported riders earned a total of 71 national and international championships spanning 11 disciplines worldwide.

Rekluse’s centrifugal auto clutch is designed to eliminate clutching when starting and stopping, and prevent stalling when riding at slower speeds or maneuvering through traffic. It does this while offering the rider the ability to retain full control of shifting by using the clutch lever whenever they’d like.

In the U.S. those successes came in the form of 26 AMA Pro Class championships, including all three Monster Energy AMA Supercross class championships, as well as one Lucas Oil Pro Motocross championship.

The Rekluse auto clutch is not an automatic transmission, however. A rider still will need to use their toe shifter to maintain the proper gear selection when accelerating, cruising and decelerating.

Not only does Rekluse offer up race-winning products for the off-road market, it also supplies its innovative centrifugal auto clutch and related items to the streetbike market with a range of clutch products available for a diverse line-up of bikes.

Rekluse clutch products are made in the USA, with every product designed, manufactured, inspected and handpackaged in Boise, Idaho. ■

New to the Parts Unlimited line-up, Rekluse was founded in 2002 by Al Youngwerth, who had previously purchased an automatic clutch for his off-road bike. Motivated to improve on the product, he partnered with Boise State University’s TechHelp program which paired him with a student engineer. The team created a successful prototype and the company was born.

BRAKE PADS

//ADVENTURE MARKET OVERVIEW//

Off-Road Ready

Brake Upgrades for Dual Sports

F

ully loaded and used for their intended purpose, heavyweight bikes like the BMW R1200GS Adventure and KTM 1290 Super Adventure are tough on brakes.

Even smaller machines like the Kawasaki KLR 650, while seeing plenty of street use, regularly wander off into the dirt, dust, mud and water. A tough braking assignment in both cases, and DP has the upgrades to cover those needs. For customers mostly riding on-road, the SDP Sport HH+ pads are a great choice. A sportbike favorite, the SDP Sport HH + compound features a unique sintered copper/alloy friction material developed to an industry high HH+ friction rating.

Adventure and dual-sport bike riders will appreciate the improved stopping power of DP Brakes upgraded brake pads.

That means consistent, powerful and controllable braking performance, performance that’s just as welcome on an Adventure bike as it is on those pure sport machines. All that performance is coupled with low lever effort, no noise, low rotor wear and reduced dust. When these machines venture off-road these pads can handle the dirty conditions, too.

For those mostly off-road Adventure riders, there’s the SDP Pro-MX upgrade. These pads were developed with input from factory off-road race teams, specially formulated to perform in the worst conditions imaginable, all while delivering powerful allround braking with quick bedding-in, high initial bite and low lever effort.

Perfect on a motocross or enduro bike, they’re just as good on those smaller dual-sport machines. They all come with DP’s trademark ceramic heat shield as standard to help eliminate brake fade, the same high-tech plasma ceramic heat shields found on the Sport HH + pads. ■

Essentials for Adventure and Dual Sport

A

dventure and dual-sport riders get into tough spots. It’s the name of the game. The goal is to get out of those tricky situations with minimal hassle and when it’s a mechanical issue causing the headache, a little preparation goes a long way towards turning a disaster into nothing to worry about. Motion Pro is well aware of this. Company owner Chris Carter, a winning ISDE competitor, and the rest of the crew at Motion Pro know what you Adventure/dual-sport customers need in a tool pouch, and they’ve come up with some must-have tool and supply suggestions.

The Combo Y-Drive Wrench, six tools in one, is another good add. So is that old favorite, the original MP Tool, a multifunction wonder that packs a big punch into a small package. You get the idea. Add in some chain and tire tools like the Lightweight Breaker and Press and BeadPro Lever Set, a

ENGINE GUARDS

//ADVENTURE MARKET OVERVIEW//

On Guard

Keeping Engines Protected

S

ometimes the “adventure” in Adventure riding involves falling over. No one plans to crash, but it is important to be prepared for one, just in case. GIVI helps with that preparation by offering engine guards for a variety of Adventure motorcycles. Think of the engine guards as a bolt-on insurance policy.

GIVI’s engine guards are built from 1-inch steel tubing and are designed to protect a motorcycle’s engine. There are a wide range of fitments for Adventure bikes from the major OEMs.

GIVI engine guards are model-specific, so they wrap around the engine with a snug, contoured fit that does not detract from the lines of the bike. They also tend to add a more rugged and aggressive look. Each engine guard is constructed from 1-inch tubing. The black powder coated guards are made from standard steel, while select applications are made from stainless steel with a silver finish. GIVI engine guards feature a bolt-on molded damper. The damper is designed to help reduce micro-vibrations, which can be especially evident on single and twin cylinder motorcycles.

TREKKER TREKKER OUTBACK

As expected, engine guards typically mount to the lower part of the engine and fairing, and that is the case for most of the GIVI applications. For models like the Honda Africa Twin and the BMW R1200GS, though, GIVI also offers an upper guard. These high bars are sold separately, but in most cases, they attach to the standard lower GIVI engine guards to create a seamless look with expanded protection. Check Parts Unlimited’s 2019 Off-Road catalog for the full list of GIVI engine guard applications, including models from BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha. ■

ooper Webb and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team are having one heck of a season. Midway through the 2019 Supercross campaign, Webb and his 450 SX-F Factory Edition bike had already built up a nice point lead in the Championship chase. Teammate Marvin Musquin isn’t far behind, either. How this season ends, and who ends up on top, is still an open question. Whatever the outcome, Roger De Coster and his KTM crew have to be all smiles. Webb and KTM have grabbed all the early headlines, and deservedly so. The 23-year-old from Newport, NC is on a tear. “It was a real honor when Roger reached out to me to join Red Bull KTM,” Webb says. That invitation was hardly unexpected. Turning pro in 2013 after a notable amateur career, Webb already had back-to-back AMA 250SX West Championships under his belt and in 2016 claimed the Pro Motocross National Championship. Jumping into the premier 450 class, Webb was a multiple top-five finisher in both Supercross and AMA Motocross. Right out of the gate Webb has delivered.

The championship-quality racewear Webb turns to are the THOR Prime Pro, Pulse and Pulse Air pieces, and Agile gloves. For protection on the Supercross circuit Webb sports the Comp Deflector, and when the Outdoors roll around, he switches to the Sentinel.

THOR

Cooper Webb puts the Prime Pro Apollo racewear to the test. He’s seen here in the Mint/ Black colorway.

That popular THOR gear has been along for this ride from the start. Throughout most of his amateur career, stint with Star Yamaha and now with Red Bull KTM, Webb has been a staunch believer in the racewear by THOR.

That entire THOR lineup, the gear Webb wears across the finish line and to the podium, is available now through Parts Unlimited. While Webb’s 450 SX-F Factory Edition bike and the pro-level prep it gets might be a bit beyond the reach of the everyday rider, that THOR gear isn’t. Seeing pro racers like Webb choose THOR is nothing new. Over the decades there’s been an endless stream of champions using, endorsing and winning with the gear Torsten Hallman pioneered more than 50 years ago. Roger De Coster himself was a winner with THOR. And over the years that THOR race gear has just improved with new designs, fresh ideas and constant innovation. For example, let’s consider that Prime Pro racewear. The most advanced racewear THOR has come up with to date, the Prime Pro kits are built with an athletic fit for unrestricted mobility and minimal weight. The durable, lightweight materials minimize seams for comfort, and all the jerseys feature moisture-wicking materials and fully ventilated arms and back panels. A tail with a siliconeprint helps keep the shirt tucked in while running motos. The Prime Pro pant is equally feature packed and ready to race. Ultra-lightweight with strategically placed mesh and laser-cut holes for ventilation, the chassis is precurved for comfort and it includes full-grain leather knee panels. Aramid fibers help reduce knee-brace wear, while expansion and stretch panels on the waist keep things comfortable. Inside there’s a removable Comp Short in place of a liner.

Long known for its eyecatching patterns and colorways, THOR’s new Pulse 2080 design is sure to grab some attention out on the track.

The Pulse and Pulse Air racewear was re-designed and upgraded for 2019. The range comes with everything that’s made this gear a favorite – the set-in jersey sleeves, four-way stretch panels, abrasion-tolerant materials, and durable double- and triple-stitching. The Pulse and Pulse Air’s performance-fit and maximum ventilation provide all-day comfort. Supercross 2019’s excitement level has reached fever pitch. Cooper Webb and the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team have seen to that. And, whatever the end result, once again the front runners are THOR equipped, racing and winning with the feature-packed gear that is available to everyone. ■

Dealership Listening Stations The included snap-in Bluetooth receiver/controller is a universal fit for most UTVs. Other UTV-specific design elements include weatherproof connectors, weatherresistant housings and a steel plate through the middle of each speaker cabinet. Since the point where speaker cabinets mount to the frame tends to be a weak spot, that steel plate running through the cabinet adds strength and stability.

With the Metrix Audio display, your customers can hear how the Element UTV audio system sounds right in your dealership. Consider the display a “silent salesman.”

M

etrix Audio and its parent company, Hogtunes, want customers to listen up. A new dealer display program available only through Parts Unlimited allows dealers to set up a professional listening station on the showroom floor, and it is free with a qualified purchase order. Metrix Audio provides audio solutions for motorcycles and ATVs that typically do not come stock with an audio system. Metrix Audio recognizes that bike shops are not audio shops, so a lot of effort went into making sure all products are very easy to install.

The Metrix Audio displays are available exclusively from Parts Unlimited, and they are free when dealers purchase a qualifying UTV product package: • Buy three Metrix UTV Kits and one pair of Element Speakers, get a two-speaker Metrix counter display for free. • Buy four Metrix UTV Kits and two pairs of Element Speakers, get a large, four-speaker Metrix floor-standing display for free. A built-in switch allows you to switch between two and four speakers. Not only can customers hear the audio systems for themselves, but they can get an up-close, hands-on experience with how well the Metrix Audio kits perform. The main features of the UTV 1 kits are also included on the display’s artwork, which turns the display itself into a silent salesman. Each display arrives ready to play, making setup quick and simple. All you need to do is plug the display in, pair your music device to the Bluetooth receiver, and start selling. ■

The large, four-speaker Metrix floor-standing display allows dealers to showcase a four-speaker system. A built-in switch allows you to switch between two and four speakers.

Universal audio kits for ATVs and UTVs, as well as universal handlebar kits for motorcycles, make it easy to listen to music on the go. Since all of the components are designed for outdoor use, that means the tunes keep coming no matter what the weather does. The latest Metrix Audio product is the Element UTV 1 audio system, which was designed specifically for the side-by-side market. The Element 1 speakers are 5x7-inch ovals that can mount in front of the rider for optimal sound, but their shape keeps the rider’s view clear. The Element X amp produces 150 Watts of power when running one pair of speakers, and it produces 250 Watts when powering four speakers.

PROTECTIVE GEAR

The Minimalist Movement Lightweight, Flexible Body Armor

Included with Icon’s D3O vest is an integrated I.C.E. emergency contact badge that can be filled out to provide important medical information, contact details and insurance numbers. Icon’s D3O vest is a minimalist piece of protective gear that can easily be worn under any other type of riding gear, whether it’s a mesh jacket or full leather suit.

T

he new D3O vest from Icon is a minimalist approach to body armor. Essentially, Icon’s designers assembled D3O impact protectors and articulated plastic plates with just enough material to attach them to each other and to a rider’s body. The result is a lightweight, flexible piece of body armor that fits snugly enough that it can go under other layers of gear. The chest and back are CE Level 2-certified, and include D3O technology for versatile, flexible protection. D3O absorbs and dissipates energy during an impact, reducing the amount of force transmitted to the body compared to standard foams, says Icon. Because of that attribute, each D3O piece can be made thinner and lighter than traditional armor, resulting in a more comfortable, less bulky piece of gear that does not come at the expense of impact protection. The D3O impact protectors and injection-molded articulating plates that comprise the D3O vest were engineered to absorb impact in critical areas. The addition of shoulder straps and stretch waist adjusters mean that the vest can be precisely fitted to the rider’s body for a form-fitting, low-profile fit. That makes it an ideal addition under any other type of riding gear, whether it’s a summer mesh jacket or a full leather suit. Additionally, the minimal design means the D3O vest is still comfortable in hot weather because it allows airflow to continue reaching the rider’s body.

M AY 2 0 1 9

The design also makes the D3O vest an attractive option for customers who say they forego protective gear because it is too bulky or uncomfortable. The Icon D3O vest is available in three sizes, including S/M, L/XL and 2XL/3XL. Each D3O vest ships with an integrated I.C.E. (Emergency Contact Info) badge. The card provides important medical and support information to first responders and hospital personnel should the need arise. The card includes areas for the rider to enter their name, birthdate, blood type, medical conditions, allergies, emergency contact details and insurance information. The I.C.E. badge is also available separately as a replacement piece or for slipping into the pocket of another piece of gear. The D3O vest joins Icon’s extensive family of protective gear. The Field Armor collection includes armored compression pieces, vests, knees, elbows and even a full upper body rig. There are also Field Armor fitments specifically for women. While the D3O vest and Field Armor pieces are designed to fit under riding gear, the Cloverleaf knee impact protectors fit over pants. The wide range of options allows your customers to choose the amount of impact protection they want in the style they want. ■

f you’ve ever wanted to see Parts Unlimited’s logo, “We Support the Sport” in action, just take a look at the racing landscape of the first few months of 2019. From Supercross to American Flat Track, the company’s riders are racking up podiums and chasing down points in the drive for their respective championships. The AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series has gotten very exciting this season as several Parts Unlimited/THOR riders have stepped up to win races and lead the title chase. Meanwhile, in the AFT singles and twins classes, Parts Unlimited/ Drag Specialties riders are jumping into the start of their season with their eyes on the prize.

450 Supercross Series

7. Joey Savatgy, 173

The foremost among the THOR riders is Cooper Webb. Webb, riding the #2 Red Bull KTM has been moving forward steadily since the season began. He’s only gotten faster as he has gotten used to the new KTM ride. He started the season with a fifth at Anaheim, and then it all came together for Webb in round three at the Anaheim II Triple crown event, as Webb won two of the three main events.

8. Cole Seely, 160 9. Chad Reed, 151 10. Justin Barcia, 150 (1 win)

He’s run pretty consistently up front ever since. So far this season Webb has won five main events and been on the podium two other times. At press time he held the points lead in the title chase over THOR team-mate Marvin Musquin.

RACE REPORT

Musquin, the two-time MX2 World Champion, is loaded with talent and has shown it all season. Despite some bad luck in the first two rounds Marvin came back to form with multiple podiums throughout the season and an overall victory at the Indy Supercross.

62

He scored another win in Seattle, but a jump under the Red Cross flag caused officials to penalize him seven points, which is going to be a factor as the season comes to a close with a few rounds remaining. Marvin sits solidly in second in the points chase as of this writing. Yamaha/THOR rider Aaron Plessinger #7 dominated the 2018 250cc West Supercross Championship and 250cc National Championship. For 2019, Aaron has moved up to the 450cc class aboard the Factory Yamaha team in 2019.

Plessinger made his 450SX-class debut at Anaheim one and pulled off a sixth-place finish in the opener. This is a learning year for Aaron in the premier class and he has been a solid top 10 rider, with his best finish so far being a fifth at the Atlanta Supercross.

250 Supercross East and West Series

After a series of strong races in the 250 SX West Series this season, THOR/Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis went big for the win at the Seattle Supercross. @Octopi.Media photo

In the 250 SX West Series THOR riders have been in the hunt all season. Dylan Ferrandis #24, riding the Monster Energy/Yamalube/THOR/ Parts Unlimited/Yamaha has had an extraordinary season. Ferrandis has scored four second place finishes so far this season and won the 250 SX West Main Event in Seattle.

Topping THOR riders in the 250 SX East is Star Yamaha rider Justin Cooper #32. Cooper’s path to Supercross success has been a little different than most. In contrast to many of his competitors, Cooper got a traditional education and even started college before his career took off.

It was Ferrandis’ first ever Supercross victory and will be a huge confidence booster going into the closing rounds of the series. The consistent podiums and the Seattle victory have him second in the points chase with 151, closing in on the championship. His teammate, Colt Nichols #31, handily won the 250SX West season opener for the Monster Energy/Yamalube/THOR/Parts Unlimited/Yamaha Team. It was the first win of Nichols SX career, and then he took second at round two in Arizona and another second at round three at Anaheim two. He’s had a few setbacks as

of late and sits fourth in the 250SX West point’s chase with 121 after Seattle. With a few rounds still remaining, there’s always the chance of a strong comeback.

In 2017, Cooper claimed multiple amateur national championships and the prestigious Nicky Hayden Horizon Award at Loretta Lynn’s. Next, he took the Amsoil Arenacross Lites East Championship, and now is taking podiums in the 250 SX East Series. He currently sits third in the title chase with 123 points. Fellow Star Yamaha teammate Mitchell Oldenburg #66 is learning to focus his raw speed and talent. Over the past four years, the racer they call “Freckle” has shown consistent progression, which has landed him a spot on the THOR team.

With a few seasons of professional racing under his belt, Oldenburg is now working to establish himself as a title contender both indoors and out. The kid from Texas will be one to watch as he finds his consistency and pushes towards the front of the pack. Mitchell currently sits sixth in the 250 SX East points with 88 via some strong top five finishes.

American Flat Track Series As the popularity of the American Flat Track series grows, greatly due to the renewed rivalry between Indian Motorcycle and Harley-Davidson, so does the factory support. The latest is from KTM, which has announced its 2019 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing lineup for the 2019 American Flat Track championship.

AFT Singles Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties Shayna Texter #52 is now part of the KTM factorybacked American Flat Track Singles team in 2019, alongside teammate and defending champion Dan Bromley. She’s a fierce competitor in the class, taking third in the championship in 2018, scoring three wins and five podiums along the way.

RACE REPORT

Texter began her professional racing career in 2008 and since then she has earned 15-career AFT Singles wins, the most of any other rider in the class. In 2011, Texter became the first female to win an American Flat Track National Main Event and she continues to pave the way for women in racing.

66

Second or third best isn’t going to be enough for Texter in 2019 however, and she’s been hard at working getting her physical and mental training in order so she can to take the title this year. Before the season started Texter headed to Florida to work with legendary trainer Aldon Baker. Baker has trained some of the top riders in Supercross for many seasons and Texter feels he is the ideal person to get her physically and mentally prepared for the AFT Singles season. isn’t ruling out a possible move up to the Twins class in the future if the opportunity arises either. Her drive has already served as a huge inspiration to many, especially as an example to women riders who face the pressure of contending in a hugely maledominated industry. Never giving up is her mantra. At the season opener at the Daytona TT, Shayna rode hard and improved her times every session, but the AFT Singles field is loaded with talent and Shayna didn’t make the main event. She came back strong in the second race of the season, scoring a ninth at the Atlanta Short Track. It’s just the beginning of the season and Texter always gets stronger as the season goes on. Look for her to get some more victories on the big ovals later this year.

AFT Twins Indian had a stellar 2018 American Flat Track season, winning 17 of the 18 races in dominant form, and the Wrecking Crew will return in 2019 with defending Champion rider Jared Mees #1, alongside brothers Briar Bauman and Bronson Bauman – all with the backing of Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties. Over the last two seasons aboard the Indian FTR750, Mees has recorded backto-back AFT championships and has tallied 20 total wins. Through nine races aboard the FTR750 as a privateer, Briar secured six top-five finishes, including a second-place finish at the Peoria TT and a win at the Williams Grove Half-Mile. Following fellow Indian rider Brad Baker’s injury at the 2018 X Games, Bronson filled in and ran his factory FTR750 in the final seven races. During that time, Bronson garnered his first top-five finish of the season and his first career Twins podium with a second-place finish at the Williams Grove Half-Mile. The 2019 AFT season will be challenging for Mees due to a new rule designed to increase competition. This new rule will allow competitors using ‘production bikes’

Off-Road Performance Exhausts

Pro Circuit’s Ti-6 and T-6 exhaust products are more than just OEM replacement parts. Each one is a performance upgrade carefully honed through extensive R&D.

P

ro Circuit exhausts are built on a lifetime of knowledge. Since he founded the company in 1978, Mitch Payton has focused on giving off-road racers and riders a quality product and guaranteed performance gains. As a desert racer and motor tuning specialist, Payton started Pro Circuit at just 18 years old. Other racers were asking him to tune their bikes like his, and Payton quickly realized it was a business for him. What began as a cylinder porting and polishing specialty shop soon branched out, and custom-tuned exhaust pipes became the first parts offered by Pro Circuit. Since then, the performance has been measured in numbers that go beyond horsepower gains. Pro Circuit products have helped propel racers to a total of 30 AMA championships and six Motocross of Nations victories. Parts Unlimited stocks the full range of Pro Circuit Ti-6 and T-6 exhaust options. Like all Pro Circuit parts, the exhausts are more than just OEM replacement parts. Each one is a performance upgrade carefully honed through extensive R&D. All of the exhausts are made in the USA and feature details designed for better performance and durability. The joint between the mid pipe and head pipe is machined for a better, leak-free fit, the components are TIG welded and the machined aluminum muffler bracket ensures a strong connection to the motorcycle. Each exhaust option features an asymmetrical muffler configuration that increases packing volume. specifically for closed-course competition in series like AMA Supercross or AMA Motocross. The head pipe, mid pipe and canister are constructed of titanium, while a carbon fiber end cap completes the setup. In addition to weight savings and a performance boost, the Ti-6 Pro Titanium system also ensures that a bike passes AMA/FIM sound regulations. The Pro Circuit Ti-6 Titanium exhaust system is aimed at amateur racers, offering improved performance over stock, durability and a professional look. Like the Pro version, the Ti-6 Titanium features a titanium head pipe, mid pipe and canister with a carbon fiber end cap. The system meets AMA amateur racing sound requirements, while still enhancing power. It also comes with a removable USFS-approved spark arrestor to make swapping between closed course and off-road riding easier. The T-6 Stainless Steel exhaust system offers the same performance as its Ti-6 Titanium counterpart, but with a lower cost and higher durability. The head pipe, mid pipe and end cap are all constructed of stainless steel, while the canister is aluminum. It also meets AMA amateur racing sound requirements and comes equipped with a removable USFS-approved spark arrestor. The T-6 Stainless Steel slip-on silencer is an inexpensive, easy way to improve performance with just a little bolton work. The mid pipe and end cap are sturdy stainless steel, and the canister is aluminum. The removable USFS-approved spark arrestor keeps both trail and track options open. ■

M

ore often than not, owners of powersports vehicles also own a trailer or two to haul around their dirtbikes, customized cruisers, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles and personal watercraft. And, looking around, you’ll find many of those trailers modified to fit the owners’ personal needs. Caliber Products, Inc., specializes in developing products for those trailers that make it easier to haul different types of machines when it’s time to get out and ride. The company’s mission is creating high-quality products that are innovative, precision engineered and affordable, says Greg Wright, distribution sales manager for the Minnesota-based company. Caliber products available through Parts Unlimited include the company’s D-Ring Anchor Kits, Bunk Wrap Kits and Marine Slides™. A helpful way to modify or add additional tie-down points to a trailer, Caliber’s D-Ring Anchor Kits – rated to 5,000 pounds – feature a flush-mount design so they won’t interfere with cargo, and they are spring-loaded so they won’t rattle when not in use. Available in zinc plated (p/n 3920-0359) or stainless steel (p/n 3920-0360) versions, each kit includes two D-rings, full backer plates, all hardware, an easy-to-follow installation template and instructions. A great addition to trailers and boat lifts, Caliber’s Bunk Wrap Kits attach directly to bare trailer bunks, as a lifetime replacement for carpet. Terminal Tenders add a new level of flexibility and convenience to a powersports battery, while a Quickstem push-in valve is one of those spare parts that can make the difference between riding trails or making lengthy repairs.

The Terminal Tenders are made in the USA from CNCmachined billet aluminum. They come in a pack of two, with one tender for each terminal point. Moose Utility Division’s new Quickstem push-in valves are one of those spare parts that can stow easily in a toolbox or tool pouch. They are designed to quickly replace torn, damaged or leaking tire stems, and the valves provide a quick and permanent fix that can be done while out on the trail. The Quickstem push-in valves feature a rubber grommet that expands when tightened to more than a third of the rim hole size, so there is no fear of the valve popping out. The installation takes only a minute to do – just push the valve in, tighten the nut and inflate the tire. There is no need to break the bead or remove the tire. The valves work on any tubeless rim and are sold in pairs. ■

Terminal Tenders allow your customers to neatly connect up to six different accessory wires to their batteries. No need for stacking ring terminals to the battery post with this handy device.

It’s safe to bet that every dealership has at least one power strip somewhere, either hidden under a counter or tucked behind a computer. These days, we have more electronic devices than outlets, so power strips are a real lifesaver. The Terminal Tenders from Moose Utility Division serve the same function for powersports vehicles. The two little attachments – one each for the positive and negative terminals – mount to any powersports battery with square bolt-in posts, providing space for up to six different accessory wires. The Terminal Tenders work with any accessories that require 12 Volt power, and they can be used with dry or wet cell batteries.

Your customers can replace damaged or leaking tire stems with Moose Utility Division’s Quickstem push-in valves. Just pop it in, tighten the nut and inflate the tire.

The Terminal Tenders enable each accessory wire to have a dedicated mounting point, so there’s no need for stacking ring terminals and no loose wire ends that could potentially cause harm to the system. Instead, the Terminal Tenders provide a safe, organized way to power any extra accessories. This is especially good news for UTV owners, who tend to have plenty of aftermarket parts that need power like stereos, GPS systems, winches and heaters.
