t won’t be long now until the doors open at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, WI for the 2019 North American NVP Product Expo. For the first time, the Expo is uniting Parts Unlimited, Drag Specialties and Parts Canada for a collaboration that allows exhibitors to reach dealers and sales reps from two countries in one location. Attending is an annual tradition here at our company and I hope it is at yours too. I’ve written many times before, the opening of the NVP in Madison is like New Year’s Day, as it’s the start of the business cycle for the coming year, in this case, 2020. The staff at LeMans Corporation who put the shows together always finds a way to make things work better, adding to the value of the commitment of time and money to attend. This year will surely be no different, with lots of new products from some first-time participating vendors, as well as many who have been to most or all of the previous events. For a look at some of the many great products you will see there, check out our NVP Product Expo Preview that starts on page 24. Saddlemen—the cover sponsor of this issue—is a great example of a company that will be showing its new products for 2020. Pretty cool that they are now working with Michael Woolaway, the custom builder who has created some amazing motorcycles for “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and many others in the entertainment world. Woolaway puts his reputation on the line with the products he selects for his prestigious clientele and he doesn’t settle for anything second rate. Be sure to read the Saddlemen story in this issue that starts on page 18. This year they have invested in many new pieces of manufacturing equipment that will allow them to make their gel and other products even faster and better than they do now. Then hear more about it straight from Saddlemen’s managers at the show in Madison. Another feature in this issue is our Mid-Year Racing Report. We are obviously on Cloud 9 with Cooper Webb winning the 2019 450 Supercross championship this year. And its feels better yet to know the THOR/Parts Unlimited rider wasn’t just more consistent than the other riders – he was on the podium at 13 of the 17 races – he also won 7 of those races. It surely sounds funny to close by saying, “Happy New Year!” It all begins in August in Madison. Hope to see you there! ■

or one day in late March, minibikes ruled the roost at Bassani Xhaust’s headquarters in Anaheim, CA. Hundreds of fans of the new generation of minis from Honda and Kawasaki, as well as older, small-displacement motorcycles, gathered for a bike show and a long afternoon of stunt riding, live music, food trucks, prizes and trophies. Originally planned by a local Honda Grom club called the Gooniez for a nearby location in another city, the even got abruptly canceled. Bassani generously stepped in and put together a show organized by marketing manager Gary Naito. “Since I had friendships with a large portion of these groups, and know stunt riders who also ride minibikes, I quickly put together a show to save the day.” It did more than save the day. Once word got out via social media, minibike riders from all over the West Coast latched onto the idea and quickly designated the whole weekend as a Minibike Fest, with group rides, parties and then the Bassani show. Riders came in from as far as Colorado and Washington state for the event. Working with three local Grom groups, Bassani worked to organize the show, and even flew out a sportbike- and minibikeriding female stunt rider from the east coast to take part in the festivities. The event, and how it unfolded, is just one example of how closely Bassani keeps ties to their customer base through social media and online forums.
RSI: THE ULTIMATE IN MX/SX STOPPING POWER. RSI was developed in MXGP and AMA Supercross and is currently used by top riders. RSI is a sinter metal compound with high thermal stability, so no fade, even under very extreme conditions. RSI has lots of initial bite to get the bike stopped, turned and ready for the next triple.
Organized in a very short amount of time, Minibike Madness at Bassani headquarters still attracted minibike fans from as far away as Colorado.

NEWS EVENTS The weekend kicked off with a group ride, with hundreds of riders zipping around Los Angeles, and near such landmarks as the Staples Center, the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Boulevard. Come Sunday, and the party took off in earnest with a live band playing rock and roll, a taco truck slinging tacos and a beverage cart for thirsty riders. Darryl Bassani himself was even seen slinging burgers on a grill. Spectators enjoyed the stunt show as well as the bike show, and there was a raffle for prizes from Dynojet, Icon, Michelin and Saddlemen. A raffle yielded a grand prize of a Honda Grom, which was given away by the godfather of stunt riding, Jason Britton of Team No Limits. â–

t the start of this year’s MotoAmerica EBC Brakes Superbike Championship, all eyes were on threetime and defending class champion Cameron Beaubier and the hard-charging Spaniard Toni Elias, who claimed the Superbike title in 2017. Both competitors return to familiar teams—Beaubier aboard his factory Yamaha YZF-R1 and Elias campaigning a Yoshimura-supported Suzuki GSX-R1000 for the second season. Josh Herrin, who finished third in the 2018 points standings, is Elias’s partner on the Yoshimura team.
For the second event of the season the MotoAmerica Superbikes shared Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with round three of the MotoGP schedule. Like Marc Marquez, Toni Elias tends to dominate at COTA, and this year was no exception. He won Saturday’s race over Beaubier and held the lead for much of Sunday’s sprint, but was eventually overtaken by his teammate Josh Herrin who secured his first win of the year. Beaubier was back at the front of the pack at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, VA, for round three, commanding

In 2018 Elias swept the opening round at Road America in Braselton, GA, but this year Beaubier flipped the script and took the win in race one after Elias ran off track. The Spaniard clawed his way back to fourth place on Saturday and was victorious on Sunday, putting to rest any concerns that Elias’s new role as a father might be slowing him down.

a 3.5-second lead over Elias at the checkered flag in Race 1 while Josh Herrin crashed out. On Sunday it was Beaubier’s turn to DNF while JD Beach took his first win in the premier class ahead of Garrett Gerloff and Elias. A little less than a third of the way through the season, Elias leads the championship with 126 points, Beaubier is in second with 102 points, and JD Beach is third with 78 points. With lots more racing still to go in 2019 there’s no telling how things will shake out, but one thing is for certain – it will be exciting. ■

he Cycle Trader Rock River Yamaha team is pleased to announce the addition of Moose Racing rider Yusuke Watanabe for the entirety of the 2019 AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. He joins joining Moose Racing riders Brandon Hartranft and Jacob Hayes in the 250cc class. The 23-year old Japanese native spent multiple years on Yamaha’s youth development team in the All Japan Motocross Championship, and made the transition to the Yamaha Factory Racing Team in 2017, winning the 250cc IA2 title immediately. In 2018, Watanabe competed on American soil in a professional capacity for the first time, contesting the AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in the 250cc class, and demonstrated growth throughout his rookie AMA season, coming close to scoring championship points by the end of the twelve round series. Watanabe made the move to America and has been working diligently on improving his results in his sophomore season.
Five races into the 2019 American Flat Track season, Parts Unlimited/ Drag Specialties/Indian rider Briar Bauman is leading the championship points run ahead of Brandon Robinson, and fellow Indian Wrecking Crew teammate and defending champion, Jared Mees, who is pulling third in the standings. It’s a season that has not only seen the checkers go to several different riders, but also two mile races – the Sacramento Mile and the Springfield Mile I – were rescheduled for later in the year due to weather. “Last year, I was super nervous and stiff at the opening round, but little by little, I got used to the AMA’s unique race format,” Watanabe said. “I’m racing to become a rider people recognize in the AMA not just for myself but also for up-and- coming riders in Japan looking to head overseas, so please lend me your cheers and support!” ■

Deus Ex Machina’s Michael Woolaway works with Saddlemen to create custom seats for each of his builds.
T SADDLEMEN
here are a lot of big names associated with the custom motorcycles built by Michael “Woolie” Woolaway – Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Orlando Bloom and Dani Pedrosa are among those who have one of his bikes.

Another name closely associated with Woolaway’s work is Saddlemen. The company works closely with Woolaway to create custom seats for his builds, but each unique seat is made up of the same techniques, technology and materials found in every Saddlemen seat available through Parts Unlimited. Saddlemen and Woolaway have partnered for about 10 builds so far, with the most recent including the bike that Woolaway rode at Pikes Peak in 2018, and a Honda-powered custom presented to Dani Pedrosa to commemorate his retirement from MotoGP. The connection between Woolaway and Saddlemen happened thanks to Aaron Colton. The professional freestyle rider co-developed the Performance Gripper seat with Saddlemen, and he is friends with Woolaway.

As the U.S. Motorcycle Design Director for global custommotorcycle and lifestyle brand, Deus Ex Machina, Woolaway is used to doing almost everything himself from the frame up. That included making a seat pan and shaving a foam seat to fit for each of his builds. Colton, though, suggested that Woolaway should explore working with Saddlemen’s custom seat department. Woolaway took Colton’s advice and visited Saddlemen. When he arrived, one of the things that struck him was the close-knit team working at the company. “You’re greeted by people who have worked there for 30 years,” he says. “They’re a part of a family, but it’s a big machine – it’s not a small company. They just do an amazing job.” The team at Saddlemen was excited at the prospect of working in tandem with a such a prestigious builder to produce a seat with premium quality and performance. Saddlemen vice-president Rob Schlueter says, “He’s been able, because he’s local, to come over, sit down, brainstorm about what his needs are, and our team is then able to provide some recommendations, and it’s kind of a co-development.”
• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
SADDLEMEN GOES CUSTOM WITH MICHAEL WOOLAWAY
Aesthetics are, of course, important for any custom bike, but the performance angle of Woolaway’s builds means that there are a lot of other factors that go into developing a seat. Woolaway notes that he had very specific needs for the Pikes Peak bike, and he was able to find the right combination of materials and technology at Saddlemen. For a race bike, especially for a challenging event like Pikes Peak, Woolaway says the seat really needs to help keep a rider firmly seated. “The Pikes Peak bike makes so much power that on a standard seat you’d have to hang on so tight you’d wear yourself out,” he adds. “When you go into Saddlemen, the world is your oyster. They start from scratch. They’ll use waxes and different materials to shape the base of the seat pan, and then they pour the foam. There are so many choices; foam level densities, special gels. When you go to the custom department, it’s exactly that, completely custom.”
CUSTOM FOR EVERY CUSTOMER While every seat made for Woolaway’s builds is completely custom, every custom seat is made of the same materials and technology found in Saddlemen’s retail seats. The company creates seats for every riding style, from flat track racing to touring, but they all benefit from things like Gel-Core technology and ProFoam. “The componentry and the technology are like ingredients,” says Schlueter. “It’s just a matter of dialing in what percentage of each element that you use to get the perfect seat for any rider’s situation. The cover material could be something that’s smooth and slippery or something that’s really aggressive and grips your leathers or whatever you’re wearing. It’s just dependent on a rider’s need and fine-tuning those different elements.”
For Pikes Peak, Woolaway needed a firm seat with a lot of grip, but also something that would look good on his Ducati 1198RS.
Saddlemen uses a process called co-molding technology to create its seats. There are three primary layers inside a typical seat, including comfort foam, SaddleGel and progressivedensity ProFoam. The top sculpted layer of comfort foam, which provides shape and soft cushioning for the rider, sits atop the SaddleGel, which absorbs vibration while dispersing pressure and promoting blood flow. ProFoam provides another layer of comfortable support, and a polyurethane substructure forms the foundation of the seat.

SaddleGel is the integral element in Saddlemen’s GelCore Technology, which is engineered to dampen, divert and deflect energy from the road. Each seat is designed to conform to the rider’s body, reducing pressure points and eliminating the hot spots that cause discomfort. When compared to a stock foam seat, a seat with Gel-Core Technology enables a rider to comfortably stay on the road up to 400 percent longer while generating up to 92 percent less road shock and 50 percent less road vibration. Saddlemen’s staff includes chemists who oversee the proprietary production of SaddleGel at the company’s headquarters. Formally known as a specially-formulated viscoelastic polymer, SaddleGel has sufficient elasticity to conform to a rider’s body while still providing support. The foam used for each Saddlemen seat is also carefully designed based on the style of the seat. ProFoam is used because its progressive-density makeup balances support and compliance. Varied cell sizes and types are put together and held in place by an outer layer that resists the elements and keeps water from seeping into the foam.
As Schlueter explains, “A sportbike rider, for example, may want something that’s going to allow him to pivot from one side of the bike to the other as quickly as possible with almost no friction. And then there are other situations where you might want a really aggressive grip, where you might be in conditions that are muddy or wet, and you just need the more aggressive grip to stay attached to the bike.” On the opposite end of the spectrum from a smooth sportbike finish is the Gripper finish, which is the finish option for Colton’s Performance Gripper seat. It provides an extreme level of grip so that a rider can have more control, no matter what body part is in contact with the seat.
R(ACING) & D Tackling Pikes Peak is a challenge in itself, but both building and riding the bike in the event is an even tougher one. Woolaway started with a Ducati 1198RS motor and made one-off ram air intakes to get as much of the thin, highaltitude air into the motor as possible. Woolaway also made an aluminum tank, a chromoly subframe and a carbon fiber tail section to help save weight. Aerodynamics got a boost from side winglets taken from a Formula 1 car. And, of course, a Saddlemen seat caps off the bike.
SADDLEMEN
In addition to the combination of foam and gel, there are further fine-tuning details that have to be engineered for each seat. The seat’s firmness can be customized to the style of riding. A touring seat is going to offer a ride that is plusher than a thinner sportbike seat, for example. But for Saddlemen, it’s not just what’s inside that counts.
The exterior material is equally important to ensure that a rider can either move around or stay put.
Pikes Peak was a first for both Woolaway and Saddlemen. Woolaway finished second in the Exhibition class, a solid debut for the rookie.

Each seat is custom-made for Woolaway, but they incorporate the same materials and technology in retail Saddlemen seats.
This Honda CR500 Street Tracker with a Saddlemen seat was built by Woolaway for Dani Pedrosa.
The track-worthy “Ago TT” Brutale 800rr is an homage to MV Agusta’s TT heritage. It is aptly named after legend Giacomo Agostini.
Woolaway had very specific qualities in mind when he went to Saddlemen to design the seat for Pikes Peak. “For a race bike it’s a very firm foam. You’re not looking for comfort on a race bike. You’re looking for position and something that’s going to keep you in place. Then of course [you want] aesthetics also, and their seats are just beautiful.” It was the first time that Saddlemen has been involved with a Pike’s Peak effort, but the company is no stranger to competition. “In the 30 years that Saddlemen has been around, we’ve supported all kinds of racing, everything from land speed records to probably the best-known, which is in the flat track arena,” says Schlueter. For Saddlemen, motorsports “really creates a competitive environment that fuels innovation, and we take a lot of that and incorporate it into the products we sell for the person who’s just riding down the street.”
Saddlemen has a custom seat department to turn sketches into reality.
Saddlemen also has traditional R&D efforts, but the racing programs are an important element in creating and improving seats. “It’s hard to quantify how much value comes out of the racing,” Schlueter says. “You don’t win on Sunday and immediately sell more seats on Monday, but what it does is it makes the team smarter and more innovative because of the criteria for racing. It’s really competitive, there’s no excuses, and when something works, everyone will immediately let you know. The same if it doesn’t work! The feedback is almost immediate.” Dealers will have a chance to talk to Schlueter and the rest of the Saddlemen team during the NVP Product Expo in Madison. The company is a longtime vendor at the show, where dealers can experience the design, technology and materials that shape every Saddlemen seat and learn how to teach customers about the benefits of upgrading their seats. ■

Now, Parts Unlimited, Drag Specialties and Parts Canada have teamed up to present the 2019 North American NVP Product Expo. This is a collaboration that allows vendors, dealers and sales reps from across the continent – and from two different countries – to gather for two days of intensive product education, dealer training sessions and invaluable face-to-face socializing. “I’m very excited to have our Canadian team join us for our first North American NVP,” said Mike Collins, CEO of LeMans Corporation. “It’s another step forward in our quest to service all our dealers the very best we can. “Parts Canada, its staff and I are very proud to be a part of the LeMans global family. In this, our 20th year in business, we are very excited to celebrate our anniversary with our corporate family in Madison, WI at the 2019 North American NVP,” said James Danyluk, president of Parts Canada. “Twenty years ago, Fred Fox started Parts Canada and has never looked back. Back then, Parts Canada was the smallest distributor in Canada.

“In typical fashion, Fred, along with the U.S. and Canadian teams, turned the tiny distributor into Canada’s largest powersports distributor. We look forward to being a part of the largest powersports distributor expo and to seeing dealers and suppliers from across the continent.” In order to keep business flowing throughout the weekend, food and refreshments will be served throughout both days on the show floor. There is also a happy hour Saturday when the show draws to a close; a perfect opportunity to unwind with friends.
Of course, as much as the NVP Expo is about doing business, it’s also about retailers, vendors and reps getting the chance to meet face-to-face to talk shop, catch up, bench race and simply have a great time. That’s where the popular Meet & Greet/Bike Show comes in. Look forward to seeing some prized machines from dealers and industry insiders parked atop the Monona Terrace Rooftop. Talk with your Parts Unlimited rep for details on attending the show and on all the planned events. Here’s a taste of what dealers can expect to see when Parts Unlimited, Parts Canada and Drag Specialties take over the Monona Terrace in downtown Madison.

Bold New Agroid Gear
M
oose Racing’s M1 line of off-road gear continues to grow with the addition of the M1 Agroid jersey and pants, which are new for Summer 2019. Updated features combined with edgy graphics make the Agroid gear a notable entry to the M1 line, and they are perfectly complemented by the new MX2 Agroid gloves.
The M1 Agroid gear might be based on the racewinning M1 racewear chassis, but it definitely has its own unique look thanks to the new graphics. The jersey and pants are available in four colorways – black/ white, black/red, black/orange and black/mint. While the graphics are an aggressive new look for Moose Racing, the colors are more understated than what offroad racewear typically features. Because the graphics are sublimated, they will retain their color no matter how many times they take on the track or the washing machine. Of course, the M1 Agroid gear is a lot more than just good looks. Both the jersey and pants have a host of premium features that ensure riders stay cool, comfortable and covered. The M1 Agroid jersey’s ventilation attributes have been improved from the original M1 design. Panels of micro

The jersey also features a silicone logo on the tail, which helps keep the jersey tucked in. Additional features of the M1 Agroid jersey include a custom collar with stretch neck taping, and non-restrictive durable stretch mini cuffs. Moose Racing offers the M1 Agroid jersey in sizes SM-3X. The design team at Moose Racing wanted to make the M1 Agroid pants extremely durable, so they are constructed of a high-denier polyester chassis with double- and triplestitched seams. The seat is reinforced with an additional layer of polyester, too. The knees feature full-grain leather inner panels for extra abrasion resistance.
Special reinforcements on the shin, ankle and foot are combined with an internal rigid steel shank to provide additional resistance and stability. The lower toe box is an updated design from the previous M1.2 boots that improves brake feel and ease of shifting. Inside the M1.3 MX boots, a speed lacing system adds stability, a moisturewicking liner keeps a rider’s feet comfortable, and soft EVA foam adds cushioning in impact areas. ■

mesh in non-roost zones allow air but not extra dirt to get in, while the roost zones are semi-ventilated for additional airflow. The jersey’s moisture-wicking material pulls moisture away from the skin and dries quickly for a more comfortable ride, even on hot days.
In the comfort department, the M1 Agroid pants have oversized knees for unrestricted movement and the legs have a pre-bent ergonomic design. In another notable upgrade from standard pants, the M1 Agroid pants have new structured mesh knee panels that help improve ventilation on the legs. A three-point waist adjustment system allows the rider to fine-tune the fit, and a sturdy YKK locking zipper will stand up to the elements. The M1 Agroid pants are available in sizes 28-42 inches. Like the M1 Agroid jersey and pants, the MX2 Agroid gloves feature the new graphics and color options of white, red, orange and mint. The minimalist, slip-on style glove has a sublimated spandex backhand, which ensures a breathable stretch fit for maximum comfort and performance. Meanwhile, the palm has a single layer of synthetic leather, which increases abrasion resistance while still allowing maximum feel on the grips. A silicone print on the palm and fingers add control, allowing the rider to get a better grip even in wet conditions. The lightweight MX2 Agroid glove has a pre-curved pinched finger design for an ergonomic fit, too. The gloves are available in sizes SM-3X. Moose Racing is also still stocking the popular M1 gear, including the jersey and pants in six different colorways. The more traditional graphic design comes in blue/cyan, black/hi-viz, red/yellow, black/pink, black/orange and Stealth, which is a low-key black and gray combination. Like the M1 Agroid jersey, the M1 version features ventilation panels, quick-drying fabric and high-quality sublimated graphics. The pants are made from a durable high-denier polyester chassis with leather knee panels, a pre-bent ergonomic design and an adjustable waist. The M1 Agroid and M1 gear pair perfectly with Moose Racing’s M1.3 MX boots. The CE-certified boots are a premium off-road footwear option. The boots are made from a polyurethane-coated synthetic leather that has a heavyweight suede inner calf guard.
The popular M1 gear is back in a variety of colorways.

TIRES
Roadsport 2 and Roadsmart II New Tires for the Sportmax Line
The new Roadsmart II extends that same set of features – genuine Sportmax quality and performance at an appealing price – to the sport-touring rider. An attractively priced alternative to the Roadsmart III, Dunlop’s premium sport-touring tire, Roadsmart II is nonetheless a versatile sport-touring performer. New, custom compounds balance performance with affordability. The combination of these compounds with the re-introduced tread patterns enhance performance in wet conditions and deliver impressive mileage. While Roadsmart II’s tread patterns, indeed, even its name, are the same as its predecessor, those familiar patterns are coupled with a new carcass construction, new profiles and new compounds to provide nimble, responsive handling. This tire is an obvious upgrade. Dunlop’s Roadsmart II is a versatile, sport-touring performer.
T
wo additions to the Dunlop Sportmax family, the Roadsport 2 and Roadsmart II, should have value-minded sport and sport-touring riders taking notice. These Dunlop options round out their respective Sportmax lineups, sport with the Roadsport 2 and sport-touring with the Roadsmart II. Riders now have a genuine Sportmax option at every price point; feature-packed, quality upgrade tires from a trusted brand that are value priced and available now.
Just like Roadsport 2 for the sport market, Roadsmart II is available in a variety of sizes, three fronts and four rears to fit a wide range of sport-touring and naked bikes, as well as many sportbikes. Not every sport or sport-touring rider demands a highend Dunlop Sportmax. Roadsport 2 and Roadsmart II expand that Sportmax family to include an upgrade option for every rider at every budget level. ■

The Roadsport 2 was designed especially for the everyday sport rider, the kind of rider doing as much commuting as corner-carving, but still looking for upgraded performance. A step up in the Sportmax lineup from the entry-level GPR 300, Roadsport 2 is aimed at riders who can’t justify the need, or expense, of moving up the Sportmax line to tires like Dunlop’s premium hypersport Sportmax Q3+ or the track-ready Sportmax Q4, a DOTapproved tire just this side of pure, race-bike rubber. Value priced, the Roadsport 2 packs plenty of real, Sportmax performance. An all-around upgrade, there’s more grip under both wet and dry conditions, a step up from the already nicely handling GPR-300. Dunlop has also developed Roadsport 2 to deliver more stability under acceleration and braking. All that’s been coupled with a light, nimble and predictable feel with quick turn-in response, and Roadsport 2 warms up quickly, too. It’s available in an assortment of 17-inch sizes, two fronts and five rears to fit many of the most popular sportbikes.

Exhausts for Honda’s Newest UTV The packing and steel wool do a great job of absorbing any harsh frequencies, allowing for a nice deep tone. Finishing off the rear are two machined billet aluminum tips, and two stainless steel turn down tips. The stainless tips are totally adjustable to any direction to accommodate any look your customers desire. This new exhaust is available in two different finishes, both of which are available with brushed stainless-steel header pipes. The brushed aluminum mufflers provide a classic off-road race look, while the black mufflers are more stealthy. Brushed and black muffler bodies are also available for the slip-on, which utilizes the identical mufflers, but instead of replacing the entire exhaust it retains the stock headers. In order to do this, a stainless Y-pipe is included with the slip-on kit allowing for a quick and trouble-free install to the stock header pipe. ■
The stainless steel header pipes step up from 1 ¾ inches to 2 inches, and are all Tig welded by hand.

rinity Racing has been wide open developing a new slip-on and full exhaust system for the 2019 Honda Talon side-by-side. The plan was to offer high-performance, great-looking, and awesome sounding exhausts, and get it out quickly, and it looks like they’ve hit all the marks. Trinity Racing had a goal set to be first to market with an exhaust for the Honda Talon, and part of that was also getting a finished prototype set installed onto the company’s test vehicle to display at the UTV World Championships. Trinity ended up pulling it off with almost no time to spare. Dustin Boyko, director of marketing and sales, delivered the car to the race in Laughlin, NV where he showed off all of the details that make this exhaust so special. And there are many of those details; exhaust features that differ from many of the other Trinity full systems.
Trinity Racing’s new mufflers for the 2019 Honda Talon not only look great, but offer a nice boost in performance and produce a deep, mellow tone.
Starting with the headers, Trinity is using a true dual stepped design. Starting at 1¾ inches and stepping up to 2 inches, this exhaust is designed for top end performance. Oxygen sensor bungs are located in stock locations, allowing for an easy installation of the stock oxygen sensor. The headers then mate to two 18-inch aluminum muffler bodies. These mufflers use a 2¼-inch stainless steel perforated core, which is then wrapped with a sealed pillow of fiberglass. Outside of the packing is a layer of steel wool, which helps protect the muffler body from heat.

The Hypersport Suit Built for the Ride
G
etting out on the racetrack, or even navigating the streets on a motorcycle, can be a risky adventure, and Icon wants to give riders more confidence with the Hypersport suit.
A lot of that confidence comes from just three small letters: AAA. That high-level CE certification means that the Hypersport has already been put through extreme abrasion and impact testing, which it passed with flying colors. The Hypersport suit is the long-awaited marriage of Icon’s popular Hypersport jacket and pants, but with a thoroughly updated look and track-worthy construction. The Hypersport begins with a 1.1-1.3mm TracSpec chassis. An integrated speed hump, shoulders, elbows and knee caps are added to that for extra style and external resistance. The included knee pucks are replaceable, of course. Inside, the Hypersport has a full suite of D3O impact protectors, including the shoulders, elbows, back, hips and knees. Comfort features include a four-way stretch material and accordion paneling in the flex zones to ensure a comfortable and contoured fit in a full tuck position. Reinforced perforation zones ensure that air flows freely into the suit. Neoprene wrists and ankles reduce bulk, and the removable, washable liner keeps the suit fresh. Since the Hypersport suit was designed with aggressive track riding in mind, it has Icon’s Attack Fit. The pre-curved arms are comfortable in a full tuck, and the form-fitting cut makes the suit aerodynamic at speed. All of those features add up to a suit that has passed the rigorous testing necessary to receive a AAA CE rating. That testing involves placing samples of the suit on a machine that spins them at a set speed until they are dropped onto a slab of control concrete, where the samples then eventually come to a stop. In order to receive the AAA rating, key impact areas such as the elbows, shoulders and knees must withstand at least four seconds of abrasion resistance with the test machine spinning at about 75 mph.
The Hypersport suit is a combination of Icon’s popular Hypersport jacket and pants, but with a thoroughly updated look and track-worthy construction. It features a AAA CErating, the highest level available.
One of the benefits of a CE rating is peace of mind for both dealers and riders. Once the materials and construction methods used in the garment have been approved, they cannot be changed. Even the specific supplier of the material must remain the same. That ensures quality and consistency for each piece produced. ■

A Full Range for Metric Bikes
The seat bases are tough 3/16-inch ABS plastic that incorporate chrome-plated mounting brackets and zinc-plated internal parts. In most applications they’re 100 percent carpeted for protection, with rubber bumpers added for even more paint protection.
The Z1R Seats lineup includes a wide range of seat styles with applications that cover all the popular Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha cruiser, custom and touring models.
P
lenty of metric cruiser customers, and the dealers customizing those bikes, know the Z1R seats are a great choice when looking for everything from solo seats to big, comfy touring saddles.
Not only is there a style for every bike, those seats also contain a host of features and are built to provide an exact fit, no matter the make or model, and come in at an affordable price point. There’s even a Special Order program that allows your customers to customize their seats. None of this should be surprising. Available since 2014, Z1R Seats come out of that same Rogers, MN seat company that’s been responsible for the much-heralded Drag Specialties brand seats since 1969. Kevin Lehan, who has headed up this LeMans division since 1974, explains that everything making those Drag Specialties seats so special is all here with Z1R.

TIRES
All-Terrain Tires
A Complete Adventure-Touring Line
To showcase its newest Adventure Touring tire, the Anakee Adventure, and highlight its entire Adventure lineup, Michelin took a group of journalists on a riding and camping trip in Death Valley, CA.
W
ith a name like Anakee Adventure, it’s no surprise that Michelin decided the best way to showcase its newest Adventure Touring tire was to take the press on a riding and camping trip to Death Valley. The Anakee Adventure was developed to fill the gap between the extremely off-road-capable Anakee Wild and the mostly-on-road Anakee III. In other words, the Michelin Anakee Adventure is meant to offer the best of both worlds, and Death Valley provided plenty of different scenarios for proving the new tire’s capabilities. The attending media members traveled along Interstates, rugged back roads, high-speed desert roads, rocky trails and some sandy patches. The Michelin Anakee Adventure tires were also mounted to different sizes of Adventure Touring bikes to further showcase their versatility, from the big BMW 1200 GS Rallye to the smaller BMW F800 GS and Suzuki VStrom 1000. The geometric block tread pattern also added to the styling of the new Triumph 1200 Scrambler, which was ridden by multi-time AMA Supercross/motocross Champion Ricky Johnson. Michelin’s Anakee line along with the Michelin Road 5 Trail means that Adventure Touring riders have a tire option to best fit their style of riding, whether that’s mostly off-road, exclusively on-road or something in-between.

Anakee Adventure
The capable 80/20 Anakee Adventure tire is for riders who spend a lot of time on paved roads but still need the confidence to ride off-road when the need or desire arises. Its top features are a blend of precise handling and longevity thanks to an optimized profile, all-new tread pattern and compounds that are designed to provide the best of both worlds, on- and off-road. Michelin’s new silica tread compound gives the Anakee Adventure tremendous wet grip for added confidence, while the dual compound construction offers a blend of handling and longevity. The rear tire has Michelin’s 2CT+ Technology, which features a more durable rubber in the center of the tread as well as underneath the softercompound shoulders. That design offers better rigidity at lean, which translates to more stability when cornering, especially under strong acceleration. The front tire has Michelin’s 2CT dual-compound technology, with the durable rubber in the middle of the tire and the softer rubber on the shoulders for a blend of wear resistance and grip. The fully-grooved geometric tread pattern has no central rib and is intended for optimal traction both on- and off-road. The tread includes Michelin’s Bridge Block Technology, with thicker tread blocks that are “bridged” with rubber to increase cornering stability. Bridge Block Technology and 2CT+ Technology combine to offer excellent handling capabilities on-road for better cornering confidence.

MICHELIN
Michelin Anakee Wild
Michelin Anakee Wild tires have a 50/50 split for on- and off-road capabilities. Most of the available sizes have a radial construction for stable on-road handling at speeds up to 106 mph, plus a supple shoulder for a more compliant contact patch in off-road terrain, eliminating the need to “air down.” The Michelin Anakee Wild is the most aggressive tread pattern in the company’s Adventure Touring line, making it a true knobby that can tackle ruts, off-road elevation and other extreme terrain. Michelin’s Bridge Block Technology is paired with an innovative tread pattern inspired by the Michelin Desert Race tire, which has dominated the Dakar Rally with 34 victories since 1982! New compounds give the Michelin Anakee Wild longevity, while the offset blocks and curved tread grooves offer premium off-road performance. The compounds and optimized tread depth also ensure outstanding resistance to high temperatures, adding to the Anakee Wild’s on-road features.
Michelin Anakee III
Riders who typically stick to on-road riding but still want the ability to tackle fire roads and some gravel are likely to prefer the 90/10 combination of the Michelin Anakee III. The tire combines a robust casing and a profile inspired by the Michelin Sport Touring radial line to provide excellent stability and maneuverability. The specialized tire tread can handle varying road conditions, including wet surfaces, with ease. The Michelin Anakee III is OE on many BMW models, including the R 1200 GS, R 1200 GS Adventure, F 700 GS and F 800 GS platforms.
The Michelin Road 5 Trail is specifically designed for Adventure Touring bikes that are exclusively ridden on the road.
The 80/20 Anakee Adventure tire is for riders who spend a lot of time on paved roads but still need the confidence to ride off-road when the need or desire arises.
Michelin Road 5 Trail
The Michelin Road 5 Trail features all of the traits that make the Road 5 an outstanding tire, but the Trail version is specifically designed for Adventure Touring bikes that are exclusively ridden on the road. The Michelin Road 5 Trail tires have excellent longevity, thanks in part to Michelin’s patented ACT+ casing technology, which maintains an optimized contact patch geometry across the unique 3D tread pattern. Patented Michelin XST Evo siping and both 2CT and 2CT+ tread compounds result in superior wet weather grip. The sipes help redirect water into efficiently-designed channels so the tire has more direct contact with the road. This design is intended to maintain the wet grip performance even as the miles stack up and the tires begin to wear. In fact, Michelin reports that after 3500 miles, the tires still stop as short as brand-new Michelin Pilot Road 4 tires. ■

Perfect Twist
Customized Throttle Control
Motion Pro’s Rev2 Throttle Kit allows your customers to tailor the twist-grip throttle rate to the riding conditions and to their own personal riding styles. There are kits for street bikes and for off-road machines.

irtbike riders, enduro competitors, motocross racers, street riders and track racers can all benefit from Motion Pro’s fully customizable Rev2 Throttle Kit. This is the kit that gives all those riders the ability to tailor the twist-grip throttle rate to the riding conditions and to their own personal preference. Rev2, the second-generation of Motion Pro’s innovative reel-changing system, comes with five color-coded interchangeable reels. Switching between the differently sized reels changes how much twist is necessary for the throttle to completely open the carbs or throttle bodies. The larger the chosen reel the shorter the twist, with each reel size shortening the twist by about 10 degrees. If an OE throttle has a 40mm reel and a stock twist of 90 degrees, a quarter-turn, a Rev2 45mm reel will reduce the twist to 80 degrees, the 50mm reel reducing it to 70 degrees. Conversely, a 35mm Rev2 reel will increase the throttle twist to approximately 100 degrees. Also included in the Rev2 kit is a progressive profile cam reel, orange for the street kits and gray for the off-road kits. The cam reel allows the rider greater control at lower throttle openings, but acts like racing throttle at higher

throttle openings. This helps eliminate the strong, initial hit of modern fuel-injected 4-strokes. It’s also good for all levels of riders – your experienced customers will appreciate the greater control, while less experienced riders will like the smooth on/off throttle feeling. Rev2’s ultra-compact housing with snap-together elbows makes all those reel and cam changes quick and easy. With a sleek, cast-aluminum body design, Rev2 requires less handlebar space leaving plenty of room for lever clearance and throttle positioning. The streetbike kits come with Motion Pro’s RoadControl™ grips and a street/road race throttle tube. For the off-road kits it’s DirtControl™ grips and a Titan™ throttle tube. The lower sections of all the cables use 5mm housings with PTFE liners for reduced friction, increased routing flexibility and lighter weight. The upper cable sections have 6mm housings to provide solid support. Also included are billet aluminum tool-less in-line cable adjusters, and there are cable boots to keep dirt and dust out of everything for reliability and continued smooth operation. ■

Off-Road Performance A New Range of UTV Products
XDR Grip Shifters replace the OE shifter to offer more precise control for everything from quick shifting between forward gears and reverse on hills, to models that reduce the shift pattern for firm, quick shifts.
X
DR is a new brand for the side-by-side market and is introducing an impressive lineup of upgrade and performance parts and accessories for a range of popular UTVs. The initial release is aimed at the Can-Am Maverick X3, Polaris RZR, Textron Wildcat XX and Yamaha’s YXZ1000R. The brand is a result of a collaboration between two big names in the hot-rod automobile market. One company, B&M is well known for its shifters, while Flowmaster is famous for some of the most muscular exhausts on the planet. Drawing from the strengths of both product lines, the two have launched XDR – Xtreme Dirt Racing. From the B&M side of things comes a whole range of Magnum Grip Shifters with some impressive features, from Flowmaster there’s bolt-on performance exhausts featuring a deep, throaty sound. XDR also has a plug-andplay module to dial-up or trim-down the boost on the Can Am X3 models, and there’s also a whole selection of ergonomically-shaped passenger Grab Handles. It starts with those Magnum Grip Shifters. The Gated models utilize triggers on their handles to eliminate accidental gear changes, while the Hill Killers allow riders
Heavy-duty Grab Handles
to quickly switch from forward gears into reverse, a real benefit on steep climbs when the front end starts to lift. For the Yamaha YXZ1000R and its notoriously long shift pattern, there’s the Magnum Short Throw, which reduces the action by half, resulting in firm, quick positive shifts. With decades of B&M know-how packed into each products, there’s quality as well as clever additions like the provision for padlock-security, and the option of built-in momentary buttons in the ergonomically-shaped handles. The buttons can be used to activate push-to-talk communications systems, a winch in/out, or any other device that only needs momentary power.
XDR’s lineup of performance side-by-side exhaust systems sound great, perform well and feature an attractive heat shield with a laser-cut Flowmaster logo.
The Flowmaster-fueled XDR exhausts include Performance Duals built with MIG-welded 409 stainless steel, and Competition Single Outlets with Tig-welded 304 stainless. Power-builders, they’re designed for improved ground clearance, and feature the provision for OE spark arrestors. They also have CNC-machined tips and Cool Technology, an XDR exclusive that allow the mufflers to run cooler and cool down almost immediately after shutdown. Then there’s the sound – utilizing Flowmasterdesigned baffling, it’s deep, throaty and powerful. XDR also offers that boost-control module for the Can Am X3 models. Controlled via a smartphone app, it allows an easy increase/decrease of Delta boost by up to 4 psi either way. Skilled riders can dial up the boost for more performance. When things get tricky or a less experienced rider is at the controls the performance can be dialed down. The heavy-duty passenger Grab Handles are ergonomically shaped just like the handles on the Magnum Shifters and are available in a variety of colors, with the option of those built-in momentary buttons. ■

Battlax Hypersport S22
A Premier, Performance Sportbike Tire
B
ridgestone’s Hypersport S21 tire has earned itself a loyal following over the last few years. Its impressive performance has built a large fanbase in the sport segment and was trusted by both consumers and manufacturers the world over. Looking to improve things even further, Bridgestone went right back to the drawing board to figure out how to make an already amazing tire even better. What the engineers developed was the S22, Bridgestone’s new premier Hypersport tire.
As good as all this looks on paper it’s out where the rubber meets the road that the new Hypersport S22 gets to prove itself. In head-to-head comparisons with the tire it was built to replace, Bridgestone’s extensive testing has shown the new Hypersport S22 the clear winner. In all those critical sport-tire categories the Hypersport S22 comes out way on top.
Hypersport S22
The Hypersport S22 is Bridgestone’s new premier highperformance tire. It’s built for a lighter feel, a better grip, better handling in wet conditions and high mileage.
The design goal: take everything good about the previous model and make it better. Compared to the S21, the S22 now has a lighter feel, better grip, stronger wet performance, more feedback, and no loss in mileage. How was Bridgestone able to greatly improve an already world class product? First off, new compound formulations and revised multi-compound layouts were developed – 3LC™ in the front and 5LC™ for the rear. Next, new and more rigid tread patterns with state-of-the-art carcass construction were created. Finally, an optimized contact-patch worked out with Ultimat Eye™ brings the Bridgestone S22 to the next level. All these combined makes the S22 proudly take the top spot in Bridgestone’s Hypersport lineup.

The Battlax Hypersport S22 tire is offered in one front size, 120/70ZR17, and five rears ranging from 160/60ZR17 to 200/55ZR17. More grip and feedback in all the working temperature ranges of the tires and a more-confident feel in both wet and dry conditions? It’s there. How about a bigger contact patch and higher cornering speeds? The S22 comes through with a full 15 percent improvement over the S21’s cornering speeds. In one performance area after another the Battlax Hypersport S22, just as Bridgestone aimed, delivers as promised. All of that with no sacrifice in mileage or tread wear. ■

Bel-Ray has a trio of oils formulated specifically for sportbikes and general metric motorcycle models – EXL mineral oil, EXP semi-synthetic oil, and the fully-synthetic EXS.

ot all bikes are the same, and that’s true for engine oil, as well. Bel-Ray has oil options for most riding situations, bike styles and budgets. In the metric and sportbike categories, Bel-Ray’s offerings include EXL mineral oil, EXP semi-synthetic oil and the fully-synthetic EXS. Each of the three 4-stroke oils is specially formulated to be a premium option in its category, which Bel-Ray simply defines as “good, better and best” options, with the EXS synthetic oil at the head of the lineup. Each of the three styles is designed to deliver a careful balance of the oil’s main responsibilities, with proper additives and base-stock selections carefully chosen to ensure quality. EXL, EXP and EXS oils all meet the performance requirements of API SN and JASO MA2, and they are suitable for air-cooled and liquid-cooled engines as well as wet clutches. The EXL Mineral 4T oil is the entry-level oil from Bel-Ray, but that doesn’t mean it is lacking in quality. Riders can use this oil with the assurance that it exceeds OEM specifications and will help enhance the life and performance of the engine. Bel-Ray’s EXP Synthetic Ester Blend 4T oil is a blend of high-quality synthetic oils with select mineral base oils. The combination ensures a high level of protection for all 4-stroke motorcycles. EXP contains shear-resistant VI improvers to resist viscosity breakdown, and the highviscosity index provides stable viscosity over a wide temperature range.

EXP helps protect engines in a number of ways; it has a high film strength that improves component protection, it improves oxidation resistance, and it prolongs wet clutch life. EXS Full Synthetic Ester 4T oil uses fine-quality synthetic hydrocarbon and ester base fluids combined with unique extreme pressure, anti-wear additives and shear-resistant VI improvers to meet the demands of high-performance applications. A solid performance oil, EXS lowers engine temperatures and increases horsepower. The superior film strength increases component protection, while the highestpossible viscosity index improves viscosity protection in high temperatures. Each of the three oil types, like most Bel-Ray oils, are available in 1- and 4-liter bottles for customer sales. The company also has 55-gallon drums of shop oil available. Bel-Ray develops oils and lubricants for all facets of the powersports industry, and the company manufactures all of its products in the USA. irelli’s tire development for the World Superbike Championship eventually makes its way into street tires, whether it’s an everyday sportbike tire or one designed for high-performance riding.
The Diablo Rosso III is a versatile sportbike tire designed to perform well in a variety of conditions and riding scenarios. The Diablo Rosso Corsa II, meanwhile, more aggressively incorporates racing technology into a street tire. The Rosso III is designed to greatly improve handling and provide maximum grip and performance in the wet. It is also carefully engineered to give a rider lasting and consistent performance throughout the entire life cycle of the tire, making it a great all-around tire. The Rosso III’s tread pattern is derived from the Diablo Supercorsa tire. Known as the “Flash” racing tread pattern, it offers uniform wear, performance consistency, and effective water dispersal. While it is a functional tread pattern, the Flash pattern is also meant to convey the tire’s competitive spirit. A large footprint provides an ample contact patch for the Rosso III, while the World Superbike-derived profile means the tire responds quicker when going into a lean. Its characteristics provide quick, precision handling and confident performance. The rear Rosso III tire features a bi-compound makeup with a 40-20-40 proportion. The wide side stripes are made from a soft, high-performance compound with 100 percent silica formulation. That compound offers full grip from a mid-lean angle. The remainder of the tread, the

center stripe, is made up of a compound designed to give optimal stability and mileage. The Diablo Rosso Corsa II is Pirelli’s first multi-compound motorcycle tire that transfers racetrack performance into street versatility with minimal changes. A grippier tire than the Rosso III, the Rosso Corsa II utilizes the same compound as a racing tire on the shoulder, but is still legal for the street. In fact, it is a popular choice for track as well as street riders. The structure and profile lend increased agility and a more accurate trajectory to a bike. Riders also benefit from enhanced feedback and improved control when cornering. In addition to the improved performance, the Rosso Corsa II also has increased mileage and better wetweather characteristics than the previous iteration of the tire, the Diablo Rosso Corsa. The Rosso Corsa II also has an updated tread design. The new pattern combined with slick shoulders results in an optimal contact patch, plus increased grip and uniform wear. The Corsa II has a bi-compound front tire and a triple-compound rear. The front is designed with the two compounds distributed across three different zones. The layout of the compounds, as well as a combination of 100 percent silica and Carbon Black, results in tires that offer increased grip in every condition and lean angle. The enhanced safety and performance allow a rider to corner with more confidence on the street or track, and in the dry or wet. ■

For 2019 it’s Cooper Webb and THOR
After a hard-charging season, THOR/KTM rider Cooper Webb emerged victorious at the 2019 AMA Monster Energy Supercross finale in Las Vegas as the series champion. Simon Cudby photo
T
The hope was for a season of good results. Which, of course, it was…and then some. And once again, just as it had been for most of his riding life going all the way back to his amateur days, Webb chose to outfit himself with THOR throughout his winning Supercross 2019 season.
Roger DeCoster, team manager Ian Harrison and everyone else at Team Red Bull KTM had to be all smiles in Vegas. Webb’s KTM teammate, THOR-clad Marvin Musquin, was right there up towards the top, too, finishing third in the final standings.
Those 450 Supercross battles weren’t the only closelywatched 2019 competitions with THOR right in the thick of things, either. Dylan Ferrandis, the new 250 West Champion was flying those THOR colors, too. You can bet that none of this, the fact that top riders and Championship finishers choose THOR, went unnoticed by the throngs of cheering fans in the stadiums and the TV audiences watching the action at home. For Supercross 2019 and all its supporting events, THOR was right up front.
he Las Vegas finale sealed the deal. With a hardcharging comeback effort that began back in January at Anaheim, at the end of the 2019 AMA Monster Energy Supercross series, the most successful rider on the track was Cooper Webb. A seven-race winner in the hotly-contested 450 class, Webb ended the season with an 18-point lead.
Seeing their riders finish as well as they did in the series was certainly rewarding, especially having taken what seemed to be a gamble on Webb. In his first two seasons in the 450 class, Cooper had only finished 9th and 13th in the Supercross points. His success, however, couldn’t have come as a total surprise. After all, he is a multi-time 250 Champion and the 2016 Pro Motocross National Champion.

In fact, top racers choosing THOR is a worldwide thing. In the FIM Motocross World Championship, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Clement Desalle and Julien Lieber, as well as Standing Construct KTM’s Max Anstie, Glenn Coldenhoff and Ivo Monticelli all race with THOR support. Coastto-coast, and around the globe, THOR racewear is the overwhelming gear of choice for top athletes.

THOR
It’s been this way for a long while, too. Over the past five decades, an endless stream of champions have used, endorsed and won with the gear Torsten Hallman first pioneered. Guys like Roger DeCoster, now Webb’s boss, along with Jeff Emig, Rick Johnson, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana, Chad Reed, Marty Smith, and Ryan Villopoto have all raced and won with THOR. It’s no wonder that riders like Webb and Ferrandis use THOR. Both of them prefer the new Pulse and Prime Pro racewear, with Webb adding the Agile gloves and Ferrandis favoring the Draft gloves along with a Sentinel Roost Guard. Those Pulse and Prime Pro kits are the most advanced racewear THOR has produced, and that’s really saying something. With an athletic fit, Prime Pro gear is built for unrestricted mobility and minimal weight, and its durable, lightweight materials minimize seams for comfort. All the jerseys have fully ventilated arms and back panels and there’s ample usage of moisture wicking material.
Pulse Air in Acid Red Orange/Slate with the Agile glove.
The Prime Pro pant is just as good. Tough, but ultralightweight with strategically placed mesh and laser-cut holes for ventilation, the chassis is pre-curved for comfort. There are full-grain leather knee panels, expansion and stretch panels on the waist and, inside, there’s a removable Compression Short in place of a liner.
Prime Pro racewear in Jet Black/Red-Orange, Draft glove and the Sentinel Roost Guard.
Totally redesigned for 2019, THOR’s Pulse kits are built moto-tough, and come with everything a racer needs. There are set-in jersey sleeves, four-way stretch panels, tough, abrasion-tolerant materials and double- and triple-stitching throughout. It’s racewear ready to win. ■

any in the powersports industry know Star Tron® Enzyme Fuel Treatment, but few know Star brite, the company behind the product. Founded in 1973, Star brite is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cleaners, polishes, protectants, motor oils, fuel treatments, lubricants and sealants. The company is best known for its extensive lineup of cleaners, protectants and polishes engineered to
withstand the harsh saltwater marine environment – the toughest conditions on the planet in terms of corrosion, UV and salt damage as well as severe wear and tear. Every Star brite product is tested, researched and evaluated by employees on their own boats, motorcycles, cars and trucks and is formulated, blended and bottled in the firm’s own manufacturing facility. Here is a brief overview of several Star brite products:
Ultimate Xtreme Clean Ultimate Xtreme Clean is a non-caustic all-surface cleaner/degreaser that blasts away the toughest, driedon road grime, grease stains, oil spills and bug splatters on bikes, UTVs, trucks, trailers, parts and tools. Xtreme Clean is a spray on, wipe off product, making it ideal for use indoors during the winter, in the shop or showroom and to clean trailers. The formula uses special chelating agents that won’t etch metal while they break the bond between grime and the surface on metal, rubber, vinyl, plastic, chrome or painted surfaces.
Ultimate Fabric Guard As outdoor fabrics age, they lose the ability to repel water. An easy solution is Ultimate Fabric Guard to restore water repellency. Fabric Guard can be used on all outdoor fabrics such as side-by-side enclosures, bike covers, gear bags, tents, riding clothes and canvas tarps, Sunbrella®, Gore-Tex® or other outdoor fabrics. By repelling water, Fabric Guard also helps prevent mildew and moisture-related damage. Fabric Guard can be used on new outdoor fabric to help extend the service life; it will not affect color or breathability of fabric.
Snap & Zipper Lubricant Star brite Snap & Zipper Lubricant keeps new metal and plastic zippers functioning smoothly and restores smooth action to old or dirty zippers. The polymers bond to the treated surface to reduce friction. Snap & Zipper Lubricant is also ideal for ensuring smooth operation of snaps and toggle closures of enclosures, gear bags, outdoor clothing and more. Snap & Zipper Lubricant is also very effective at maintaining or restoring metal-to-metal movement of hinges or other metal to metal applications.
Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment is a multifunctional product that helps improve the performance of all gas-powered engines. The unique blend of enzymes stabilize fuel while also helping to keep engines and fuel delivery systems clean. Star Tron also helps improve fuel combustibility; a more complete burn of the fuel charge allows more power, better fuel economy and reduced emissions. Star Tron can be used in all 2-stroke and 4-cycle engines, from scooters to V-twins to generators and trucks. ■

ooper Webb had two 250 Supercross West championships when he moved up to the 450 class. Blazing fast, aggressive, fearless and highly talented, Webb was at the time the brightest young prospect on the Supercross horizon. Fast forward to two years later and Cooper had earned zero 450 Supercross wins and been injured several times. When he wasn’t injured, he could crack the top 10, but that was about it. He was literally in a hospital bed when he got a call from Roger DeCoster who offered him a KTM ride for 2019. With a new ride, and a second chance, 2019 has been a breakout Monster Energy AMA Supercross season for Cooper Webb. The THOR/KTM rider started off slowly, but after taking the Triple Crown at Anaheim II, there was no stopping or catching Webb. For the rest of the season he put together seven victories and 13 podiums and went into the final in Las Vegas with a huge points lead.

All Webb had to do was finish in the top 20 to clinch the title. He could have coasted around the course, but instead put on a show, racing hard to finish in third place adding another podium to the season, just behind THOR teammate Marvin Musquin (who also won two Supercross mains this season) and race winner Eli Tomac. At the end of the night Cooper Webb was crowned the 2019 450 Supercross Champion. “I’d like to thank all my sponsors, Parts Unlimited, THOR, 100%, Dunlop, and Alpinestars” said Webb. “And especially KTM, for taking me in and this incredible journey this season has been.” There were more titles on the line in Vegas; both 250 Supercross East and West were decided and THOR riders were in the hunt. In the East/West Showdown main event THOR/Monster Energy/Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis had an outside shot at the 250SX West title and THOR/Star Yamaha’s Justin Cooper was sitting a distant second in the 250SX East title chase.

When the final checkered flag of the season waved, Cooper held his spot in the 250SX East taking second in the championship points behind Honda’s Chase Sexton. “It was a great learning season for me and I’ll take the knowledge and experience I’ve gained into next year,” Cooper said. The best show in the 250 class was put on by Ferrandis. The flying Frenchman started well and took the lead early on. To take the title he would have to win with a significant lead over the points leader Adam Cianciarulo, which he did. Ferrandis won the race and the 250 Supercross West championship. “I am so happy,” said Dylan. I wish to thank the motorcycle industry in America. I have always dreamed of racing here. To win this championship is unbelievable.”

Friction rotors are developed in tandem with the SBS brake pad range, which means that for most SBS brake pad part numbers, there is a corresponding SBS rotor. The rotors include high-quality stainless steel with a high carbon content, low weight, high temperature resistance, heat-treated stainless steel center hubs, and an anti-corrosion treatment.
SBS brake pads and rotors
T
he outlook at SBS is that there should be no compromise when it comes to braking, and that goes for both two- and four-wheeled vehicles. SBS most recently proved their prowess at Daytona, where the company’s racing brake pads were a part of two winning efforts. Kyle Wyman won the Daytona 200 on a Yamaha R6 equipped with SBS 634DS-1 dual sinter brake pads in the front and SBS 730-RQ Carbon Tech pads in the rear. That same weekend, Indian/Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties rider Briar Bauman won the Daytona TT Flat Track with SBS 841-DC Dual Carbon front pads and SBS 730-RQ Carbon Tech rear pads. In addition to a full range of race-proven brake pads, SBS Friction brake rotors are also now available. SBS Friction brake rotors are not a new product, but they are new to the U.S. market. The lineup includes two styles – a standard range of front and rear brake rotors that act as OEM replacements and the SBS Upgrade rotors. The OEM-style rotors are designed to offer durable, comfortable braking, while the SBS Upgrade rotors are specifically designed to increase brake feel, performance, comfort and looks.
Four-wheeled vehicles can also get high-performance braking from SBS with the PSI brake pad range for ATVs and UTVs. The new range offers a premium compound upgrade over stock as well as NRS technology. The hightech conductive sintered EVO compound is formulated to provide a strong initial bite to give instant brake feel while retaining easy modulation. In all, the pads are designed to be fade-free, consistent, and reliable even under extreme performance conditions. The NRS technology brings OEM-style construction methods to the aftermarket. The PSI brake pads utilize the NUCAP Retention System (NRS), an advanced mechanical attachment technology. The system mechanically attaches the friction material of the pad to the steel backing plate, and the result is there is less of a risk of separation. SBS has utilized NRS technology since 2001, and now that technology has found its way to the new PSI brake pads for ATVs and UTVs. SBS offers different brake pad compounds for different vehicles and riding styles, so your customers can get the right braking setup for their vehicles. ■

Exhaust for 2-Stroke and 4-Stroke Machines
EXHAUST
Performance Pipes
The Factory Fatty and the Fatty 2-stroke pipes have a deep history at FMF Racing. They feature a broad range of fitments and wide coverage of models and years.
D
on Emler and his Flying Machine Factory were instrumental when it came to 2-stroke pipe development and tuning in the early 1970s. Now, some 47 years later, this still holds true.
Emler is still in FMF’s R&D department area every day, pushing the envelope of exhaust development for 2-stroke and 4-stroke machines. In fact, it’s that focus that drives FMF’s entire research and development efforts for building and supplying exhaust for a wide range of machines. You may have heard about FMF’s temporary exclusivity with Husqvarna and KTM on select FMF products. A big driver for Emler and the FMF R&D team was working firsthand with KTM’s technicians to gain insight that helps drive the development of high-quality, race-winning products for the Husky and KTM TPI machines. The results are some very potent exhausts to suit these 2019 model year machines from Austria. As 2-strokes began to give way to those high-revving 4-strokes a few years ago, FMF established itself as a major player in performance exhaust for that segment, but still focused heavily on providing products for the 2-stroke market. Whether old or new, big or little, if it’s a 2-stroke motor, FMF likely has something very effective and affordable to offer. With the resurgence of 2-stroke machines from a number of OEMs, FMF is set with a range of exhausts to fit the bill. One standout product is the FMF Gold Series Fatty – the company’s first and the original 2-stroke pipe. Fattys have a broad range of fitments and wide coverage of models and years. The brilliant chrome and nickel plating make these a great looking option. The Factory Fatty is an evolution from the earlier days of cone pipes as created for use by FMF for factory riders and teams. These pipes share many of the same performance characteristics of those racing pipes, but with improved, consistent craftsmanship, increased material quality and affordable prices.
FMF has a selection of 2-stroke silencers that should meet the needs of your customers, no matter the riding terrain or situation.
Given their popularity, your customers likely know the performance reputation of the Fatty Series of pipes. Whether they’re installed on new or used models on the showroom floor, or displayed near the parts counter, they’re sure to get plenty of attention. Thanks to today’s off-road riding scene, another product that’s significant is the FMF Gnarly pipe. It’s a great exhaust solution for riders of all levels who are into more technical riding and looking for a perfect low and mid-range response on the trails. Due to their intended use, Gnarlys are built with thicker gauge steel and are ready to take some abuse from unforgiving trails as evident by their wide use in professional competition. FMF Gnarly pipes are readily available today for new and old machines – including for the 2019 Husqvarna and KTM models – via Parts Unlimited. Some FMF 2-stroke pipe single part numbers fit machines up to 20 years old. While the proper pipe is quite important, the rear silencer does more than compliment that change. FMF’s established range includes the Powercore 2, Powercore 2 Shorty, Turbinecore 2, and its newest 2.1 series of silencers. With a lineup this big, there’s a silencer for every application no matter the rider’s priority – performance, sound, forestry legal, or any combination thereof. ■

oose Racing combines sport capabilities with functionality with two of its latest products for UTVs. A four-point harness system helps riders strap in securely, while the RZR 1000 XP limit straps keep the suspension operating smoothly. The Moose Racing harness system is ideal for riders who prefer performance riding to Sunday driving since it keeps a rider firmly in the seat through extremes in speed and terrain. A harness system is for a lot more than just aggressive riding, though. It can also provide extra comfort and control in any kind of rough terrain, and it can help riders stay secure in the seat in all riding situations. The Moose Racing harness system features a four-point restraint design connected by comfortable two-inch wide straps. The chest and shoulder straps are also padded for additional comfort and better shock absorption in the case of abrupt stops.
Moose Racing is also now stocking limit straps for the RZR 1000 XP. The straps are designed to work with stocklength axles, whether they are OEM or aftermarket. By limiting the amount of travel in the axles, the straps help prevent damage to both the suspension and drivetrain components. They also help the CV joints by limiting the maximum angle of the axles. The limit straps are a bolt-on application, so there is no need to make direct changes to the suspension itself. The straps, which are sold separately, include a 23-inch long front strap and a 33-inch rear strap. ■
»» Talk to your Parts Unlimited rep for more details about the harness and limit straps. You can also check them out in person, along with other Moose Racing products, during the NVP Product Expo in Madison, WI. Learn more about Moose Racing at www.mooseracing.com.
Getting strapped into the harness is designed to be extremely easy. The single-click automotive buckle makes entry and exit simple, and the integrated chest buckle keeps the straps securely in place over the shoulders. The shoulder and the lap straps all have easy adjustment so a rider can get a snug fit that still leaves plenty of breathing room. The harness will fit most UTVs and features both universal bolt-in installation and loops that mount over the roll cage. Riders get their choice of a black, red, blue or gray harness, and they are sold each.

Honda Mini Exhausts
Good Things for Small Packages
F
or nearly three decades, Akrapovič motorcycle exhaust systems have appealed to riders who thirst for increased performance, distinguished design and a distinct, deep sound. Now, Akrapovič introduces a series of upgrades for owners of the diminutively-displaced 125cc 2019 Honda Monkey and Grom motorcycles.
Those who demand maximum performance of a 20162019 Grom should opt for the titanium Racing Line (p/n 1810-2661,) a full system that offers a 5 pound weight reduction compared to the stock setup. The Racing Line features exceptional production quality, hi-tech materials and increased engine performance combined with pure racing sound output.
For customers who want to add a wee bit more modern technology and styling to the new retro-cool Monkey, Akrapovic now offers several upgrades to the OE exhaust system.
Owners of a 2013-2015 Grom who do not want to majorly modify the stock exhaust system, but still desire reduced weight and a more notable tone, can select the carbon Slip-On line exhaust and pair it to the stock header or the Akrapovič titanium header. The carbon Slip-On line delivers a hi-tech appearance, increased performance, and is about 5¼ pounds lighter than stock.
Those who need to coax every last ounce of horsepower and torque from the Monkey should opt for an exhaust upgrade by starting with Akrapovič’s Slip-On titanium exhaust (p/n 1811-3708) and then pairing it with the available optional stainless steel header (p/n 1812-0399.)
Akrapovič offers up a slick, new upgraded exhaust system for Honda’s retro-cool Monkey. There is a titanium exhaust and an optional stainless steel header.
That Slip-On titanium exhaust exhales through twin conical mufflers constructed from stainless steel surrounded by titanium sleeves. Beautifully shaped to perfectly match the character and style of the Monkey, it creates a striking profile, while increasing performance and reducing weight by nearly 4 pounds.
Those willing to invest a bit more effort in modifications can mate the carbon Slip-On line (p/n 1811-2692) with the titanium header (p/n 1812-0225) for maximum performance, weight reduction and style. ■

It also delivers the deep, rewarding sound that is the hallmark of Akrapovič exhausts. Depending on their expectations for performance, customers can pair it with either the stock header or, better yet, the Akrapovic stainless steel header. It features a beautiful design and helps coax more power out of that small-displacement motor. It also weighs about 4½ pounds less than the stock header. For a finishing touch, customers can enhance the sporty, yet classic appearance with a specially designed hand-crafted carbon fiber heat shield (p/n 1861-1360.) Customers who want to give their Groms added get-upand-go, and a more visceral voice, now have new options from Akrapovič.
Honda’s popular Grom also gets the Akrapovič treatment with two options – a carbon fiber Slip-On and a titanium Slip-On.

DRIVE CHAIN
A Century in the Making
Chains Designed for Adventure Bikes
R
Regina’s Z-Ring has evolved to include a conically shaped inner surface for better sealing and internal lubrication.
egina Chain is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019, and throughout its long history the Italian firm has collaborated with many greats. From legendary champions like Agostini, Bayliss, Hailwood, Rossi, and Stoner, to renowned manufacturers such as Aprilia, Ducati, Honda and Yamaha, Regina has been part of motorcycling since the sport’s infancy. As the OE provider for numerous manufacturers and the chain of choice for many high-level race teams, Regina’s drive to improve its products’ quality and performance is unwavering. The latest results of the company’s efforts are aimed at the popular Adventure segment where large, powerful motorcycles rack up loads of miles on a variety of terrain. It’s a category of bike and a style of riding that puts a lot of strain on equipment, especially the drive train. Thankfully Regina’s Adventure chains, designated ZRE, are up to the challenge. The Adventure chains are offered in 520 and 525 sizes to fit most of today’s bikes, and feature attractive gold-colored link plates. This specially designed chain uses top-quality materials and processes to ensure maximum durability and mileage, all while providing extended lubrication intervals for uninterrupted riding. At the heart of the ZRE is Regina’s latest Z-Ring, which features a special conical shape on the underside of the ring to improve sealing and enhance chain flexibility. This new seal represents an evolution of previous X-Ring and Z-Ring designs, and is another example of Regina’s constant R&D efforts. The seal’s complex shape retains internal lubricants, seals out water and dirt, and provides 40 percent more chain life than conventional O-ring chains with their simpler, faster-wearing seals. A quality seal like the Z-Ring is critical for motorcycles intended to go off-road where dirt, dust, and other debris can cause rapid wear.
Regina also offers chain and sprocket kits.
The patented Z-Ring is supported by a cast of quality components including high-carbon alloy steel bushings and rollers for maximum durability. To further improve fatigue resistance the side plates, pins, and rollers are shot peened prior to chain assembly. The shot-peening treatment induces a residual compressive stress in the parts that strengthens the metal, which is especially important for components that are subjected to repetitive loads. Every one of your customer’s chains will eventually wear out, and when it does, replacing it with Regina’s new Adventure chain means they’re putting a century of experience into their drivetrain. And since the chain and sprockets should be replaced as a set, Regina offers convenient kits for popular dual-sports and Adventure bikes. Chain and sprocket kits are currently available for the Honda XR650L (p/n 1230-0644), the Kawasaki KLR650 (p/n 1230-0242), and the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom (p/n 1230-0236). Kits include steel front and rear sprockets with the stock tooth count along with a pre-cut Z-Ring chain. ■

The new Commuter Lite tail bag was designed specifically for smaller sportbikes, or for only the essentials – it has a capacity of 11.71 liters, and can accommodate 15.32 liters of cargo when expanded. The bags mount effortlessly to most tail sections and seats. A quick-release mounting system can attach around the seat for a clean look, while the quick-release
Nelson-Rigg’s line of Commuter tail bags now features three different size options.
buckles and adjustable shoulder strap means the bag converts easily from luggage to a carrying case. An anti-slip base material helps the bag stay put without damaging the seat or tail section. The bags are constructed from Nelson Rigg’s exclusive UltraMax material, which provides premium UV protection to ensure that the fabric maintains its integrity and color. Reflective piping and the flush-mount reflective carrying handle help increase visibility. The EVA molded lid has carbon-like accents for style, and the sturdy construction maintains its shape to make the bag easier to pack and unpack. ■

Complete Crankshaft Assemblies
T
he crankshaft assembly is one of the most tortured components in an engine. The connecting rod is compressed for half the combustion cycle, and stretched for the other half, and the big end bearing and pin are subject to a great amount of heat and stress. This is why some of your customers may be hesitant when turning to the aftermarket to replace such a critical part, however, purchasing OEM parts can be a slow and overpriced process. Luckily, ProX Racing Parts bridges the gap between OEM quality and affordability. ProX’s new line of complete crankshaft assemblies are built with ProX’s reputable line of connecting rod kits, which are made by OEM suppliers in Japan using double-forged Japanese steel. ProX connecting rods achieve superior strength through double-forging, heat treating, and barreling and peening the material. These processes align grain flow, optimize the molecular structure, and remove surface imperfections and stress risers.
ProX Racing Parts offers complete crankshaft assemblies that feature OEM strength and reliability at a price that won’t break the bank.
These complete crankshaft assemblies are drop-in ready and provide OEM reliability at a reasonable cost. They are available for a variety of dirtbike applications, both 2-stroke and 4-stroke. A ProX small-end bearing is also included with all two-stroke crankshaft assemblies. ■
