The Future Starts Here by D on Em de
F
or over a decade, marketing managers and consultants in the motorcycle industry have been taking note of some unfavorable demographic changes. Two troubling trends have been happening simultaneously: (1) Marketing research studies have been showing that a large percentage of the motorcycle riding population today are 55 to 73-years old. Known as the Baby Boomer generation, most are financially stable and have been a good source of motorcycle industry revenue for many years. The researchers know however that segment is approaching the end of its lucrative run. (2) At the same time, the next two generations to follow—Millennial and post-Millennial (also called Gen Z)—have been slow to embrace motorcycling. These new generations have grown up with countless electronic attention-grabbers. FaceTime, and social media, plus Zoom, now all contribute to people contacting their friends without going anywhere and many are content to socialize that way. If they need to go somewhere, an Uber driver is just a few keystrokes away on their cell phones. Unlike in the past, no longer are teenagers checking out motorcycles before they even get their driver’s license. Some have not found the need to even obtain a driver’s license until into their early-20s. Many in the industry could see the handwriting on the wall. Something was missing as many young people showed no interest in the two-wheeling experience like most or all of us have enjoyed throughout our lives. Knowing that you, the motorcycle retailers, will suffer if new people do not come into the sport, Parts Unlimited has taken a step that I think is true genius. They are moving the goal posts forward from what we call the entry-level point of the motorcycle industry to get people started in two-wheeling with pedal bicycles. We all know that the bicycle industry is huge, and now the door has opened for bicycle buyers to come to your store instead of the bike shop down the street.
Your new 2021 Parts Unlimited Bicycle catalog is just the beginning of a new era to get young people excited about two-wheeling. In addition to the new INTENSE Tazer MX e-Mountain Bikes, the Strider “balance” bikes will introduce handlebars and wheels to a new generation of future motorcyclists.
Getting to know the new Tazer MX. Photo by Tracy Emde
Parts Unlimited’s game plan is simple: sell them a bicycle today, and down the road a new crop of moto-kids will be ready to become the motorcyclists of tomorrow. Win-Win. ■

NEWS EVENTS 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship MUSQUIN AND FERRANDIS IN POINTS CHASE THOR/Star Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis came into the 2020 Lucas Oil 250 Pro Motocross Championship ready to win, and promptly demonstrated how he was going to do so with both moto wins at the season opener at Loretta Lynn’s. He’s followed that up with several victories and strong podium finishes leaving him in the points lead. @Octopi.Media photo

T
he Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship ninerace 2020 Pro Motocross schedule kicked off in August at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. From there it played out across all the outdoor venues, taking us through the WW Ranch National as of press time. With only two races left in the season – the final race being the Fox Raceway National in Pala, California Oct. 10 – THOR/ KTM rider Marvin Musquin was third in the points standings, just one point behind runner up Adam Cianciarulo in the 450 MX National Championship. In the 250 MX National Championship, THOR/Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis held the points lead in the class standings. Here’s how the season unfolded: In the season opener Loretta Lynn’s National in 450 class, not many eyes were on THOR/Red Bull KTM’s Musquin as
he came into the series. The talented rider had dropped out of the 2019 National MX Series with an injury that required surgery, and he completely missed the 2020 Supercross Series, instead spending his recovery training, rehabbing and testing. As such, he hadn’t raced in almost a year. So it was a surprise to everyone when Musquin ran up front finishing fourth in moto 1 and fifth in moto 2 for fourth overall. It was an even bigger surprise when Musquin scored a second-place finish in moto 2 in the deep mud of Loretta Lynn’s 2, coming within a few feet of catching moto 2 winner Zach Osborne at the finish line. Musquin scored third overall and was suddenly a contender for the 450 championship. “I feel amazing,” Musquin said after the race. “I put in a lot of work to get ready for the season; a year without racing is not normal for me. I’ve been racing every year and haven’t missed a lot of time. To miss a whole year was tough, so I’m eager to race.” continued on page 12...

NEWS EVENTS ...continued from page 10
As the season progressed Musquin got stronger, taking a moto 1 victory at the Ironman in the next round and finishing second overall for the weekend. Next was RedBud where Musquin went 2-6 for fourth overall. Then at RedBud 2, Musquin went 3-4. At Spring Creek, Musquin ran well in moto 1 and finished a strong third, keeping Osborne behind him in fourth, gaining a few championship points. Then, at the WW Ranch in Florida, Musquin had a bad crash in practice but rebounded with a 3-3 score for second overall behind Osborne. The points at press time were Osborne – 285, Cianciarulo – 256, and Musquin – 255. 250 MX National Championship – THOR/Star Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis won the 2020 Supercross 250 West title and came into the Pro Motocross Series finely tuned and ready for more success. He came out swinging for the fences taking both moto wins at the season opener at Loretta Lynn’s. At the famous mud race of Loretta Lynn’s 2, Ferrandis stayed strong in the muck to go 2-4 for second overall. He notched another moto win in the first moto of the Ironman, going 1-3 for the day for second overall. At RedBud a first turn pile-up cost him a good finish in moto 1 and he pushed through for seventh. He took third in the second moto for a 7-3 weekend and fourth overall.
With more moto 1 trouble at RedBud II he managed a fifth in the first moto but came back to finish second in moto 2 for second overall. At Spring Creek Ferrandis got a good start in moto 1, quickly moved into the lead and gained a bunch of title points by winning the moto ahead of Honda rider Jeremy Martin. Ferrandis went 1-1 on the day for the overall win, and with it he took over the points lead. THOR/ Star Yamaha rider Justin Cooper rounded out the podium. Then at the WW Ranch event in Florida, Ferrandis put in another stellar performance going 1-1 to extend his points lead. Cooper finished second overall with a 4-2 for his best performance so far this season and Martin rounded out the podium with a 3-3 for third overall. As of this writing, Ferrandis holds the points lead in with 307 ahead of Martin with 294. The points are so close that every moto counts and the pressure is on Ferrandis to make it happen for the 250 MX title. With those two events to go at press time, Parts Unlimited/ THOR had a rider in each of the championship classes in moto by moto dogfights for the titles. Good luck to Marvin Musquin #25 on his KTM in the 450 class and Dylan Ferrandis #14 on his Yamaha in the 250 class in the battle for the championships. ■
Bauman In Full Control With Dallas Double
P
arts Unlimited/Drag Specialties/Indian rider Briar Bauman delivered another stellar performance to up his run of dominance in the 2020 American Flat Track season at the Roof Systems Dallas Half-Mile II. It was a win-win weekend for Bauman, who also claimed victory at the Dallas Half-Mile II. Bauman just seemed to be piling up these back-to-back victory weekends as the season headed into its final stretch toward the finals in Daytona Beach in October. Bauman’s Dallas double came just one week after he put in a dominant 1-1 performance at the Williams Grove Half-Miles I and II. Prior to that he earned back-to-back wins at the Indy Mile I and Indy Mile II, the same weekend the reigning AFT Super Twins Champion completed his career Grand Slam.

Bauman’s monster weekend in Dallas had the potential to be a turning point in this year’s Grand National Championship fight. Prior to the Dallas doubleheader, Bauman and fellow Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties/Indian rider Jared Mees had traded the title lead back and forth at each successive event. Bauman brought that trend to an end in a major way in Texas, turning what was a narrow five-point advantage into a protective 25-point lead with 219 points.

With performances like his win at the Springfield Mile II in the beginning of September, two other victories and four podium finishes across the season, at press time five-time Grand National Champion Jared Mees held the runner up spot in the points run with 194.
After his wins in Dallas, Bauman explained how he managed to look so smooth, “My guys had my bike handling so good tonight. It was flawless and I just tried to be smooth,” he noted. “I tried to not hit those holes and avoid the stuff that was going to slow me down.” ■

ff-highway motorcycle sales rocketed up 50.3 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year. Dualpurpose motorcycle sales jumped 20.9 percent in the same time frame, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council Retail Sales Reporting System.

“Riding dirt and trail bikes has always been one of the best ways to spend time with family and friends,” said Erik Pritchard, president and CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Council. “Now, with the pandemic, it has amplified what’s positive about getting out on motorcycles. You can get out of the house, have fun with your loved ones, and still maintain social distancing.” Off-highway motorcycles include dirtbikes, trail bikes, competition motorcycles, and other motorized two-wheelers that cannot be used on public roads. Dual-purpose motorcycles are street legal and are also designed to be used on off-road trails. The MIC recently launched a Commuter Distancing campaign to encourage people to consider motorized two- and three-wheelers as transportation alternatives. “There are many benefits to motorcycles and scooters,” Pritchard said. “In normal times, studies have shown that they help alleviate congestion. During this pandemic, being on a motorcycle means being able to avoid crowds and lessening the chance of spreading and picking up germs. And many riders say it adds fun to a normally mundane commute.

NEWS EVENTS Ethan Barkley: Life in the Fast Lane
W
ith only one minute of actual “race” time on a typical race weekend, a person might wonder what the draw is for EBSpeed’s Ethan Barkley, Canada’s most championed motorcycle pro drag racer. With 18 National drag racing titles to his name, the Parts Canada-sponsored racer says there’s lots to love. “In drag racing you have to love the preparation since there are no second chances. There’s no next lap, or next turn to gain back lost time if you make a mistake,” Barkley says. “It’s all or nothing in a matter of seconds. But, when it all goes right, those 6 seconds are worth all the hours of prep.”

NEWS EVENTS

The passion for racing is fueled by lots of things. Building the equipment, being part of a track family, pushing for the perfect race and of course, winning. This level of racing cannot be done alone, and Ethan counts on family, friends and fellow racers to give him a hand. As for the bike, it’s all Barkley. He built it, and he rides it. Fast. The 440 lb, turbocharged Suzuki GSX-R1000 is “street legal” including street tires, a headlight, a taillight, a charging system, a hand clutch, and, no wheelie bars. With a 72-inch wheelbase and 2.7 G’s of acceleration, it launches from 0-60 mph in 1.2 seconds, and 0-160 in 4.5. It is not for the faint of heart. With a career best of 6.84 seconds at 207 mph, Ethan is the first Canadian in the Pro Street class to break the 200mph mark, and break into the 6 second zone. As a young boy, Barkley started riding on a Yamaha 70. Over the years he dabbled in other disciplines of racing – gokarts, automobile, and Supermoto – but never in sanctioned or organized events. In the ’90s Barkley started taking his car to race secret street nights at Race City Speedway in Calgary, Alberta – a former oval, drag, and road race track, now a landfill site. The passion for speed evolved to racing modern sportbikes. In 2007, as a newly sponsored Parts Canada rider, Barkley posted his first, 7 second, quarter mile pass and just kept going faster. In 2011 he won his 12th Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA) championship, becoming the most championed drag racer in CMDRA history.
In 2012 he logged his second perfect season being awarded the Most Outstanding Achievement Award, the Wrench of the Year Award, The Award for Contribution to Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing, and his 13th National championship. He has since developed the EB1K turbo system, competed at the Manufacturers Cup World Finals in Bradenton, Florida, the ACU Summer Nationals at Santa Pos Raceway in England, the IHRA Nitro Jam in Edmonton, Alberta (with a speed record of 197 mph), and competed in the Manufacturers Cup World Finals in Valdosta, Georgia. He’s taken a few more National Championships, competed in the IHRA Gulf Western Oil Winternationals in Ipswich, Australia and, with a runner-up finish, was the first Canadian to break the 200-mph mark in the Pro Street class at the NHDRO in Indianapolis. The icing on his racing cake? His career best pass and another Canadian first at 6.84 seconds, 207 mph, in the IDBL at the Virginia Motorsports Park. Still under a Parts Canada sponsorship, Barkley doesn’t plan to stop racing anytime soon, and before he winds his career down, his number one goal is to run a 6-second/200+ mph pass on Canadian soil. He still wants to compete in other countries (Hawaii and Japan on the top of the list) and, of course, a couple more National titles would be good too. He notes, “20 is a nice even number.”

E-BIKE SALES AND MARKETING TIPS
F
or anyone paying attention, it’s as obvious as the mask on your face: Electric-assist bicycles, already a major force in Europe, are now a big deal in America – and very much the coming thing. It’s happening quickly, too, faster than even E-bike adherents thought possible. We know why, of course. E-assist bicycles not only allow riders to go farther and faster than traditional pedal-only bikes (despite their extra heft), they’re in many ways more exciting – and can also give riders a fantastic workout.
E-BIKE
All of which makes extra exciting the announcement earlier this year of LeMans Corporation’s – Parts Unlimited’s parent company – collaboration with INTENSE Cycles to build a pair of electric-assist mountain bikes specifically aimed at Powersports customers. The bikes in question are the Tazer MX Pro and Tazer MX Expert. The former adds Powersports-industry componentry from the likes of Öhlins (shock and fork), Renthal (handlebar), Magura (brakes and controls) and others to what’s already a class-leading e-MTB – the Tazer, also in Pro and Expert builds – from Temecula, California-based INTENSE Cycles. The Tazer MX Pro and Expert are exclusive to Parts Unlimited, with bikes scheduled to begin appearing in more than 150

A full line of e-MTB-oriented gear and accessories will also be available through Parts Unlimited, many from Powersportsindustry aftermarket companies such as Alpinestars, 100%, Thor, Renthal, ODI, Maxima and others. Suggested retail for the Tazer MX Pro is $7995, with the Expert model priced at $5995.
MERCHANDISING AND MARKETING The key to this brand-new effort and product line, of course, is grabbing customer interest and making sales, with Powersports customers and with those new customers who’ve been waiting for the right time to jump into the E-bike market. To that end we queried a duo with intimate knowledge of the product line and its development – Jeff Derge, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Parts Unlimited, and Jon-Erik Burleson, ex-President of KTM North America and head of Two Wheel Group, a Powersports consulting agency. Burleson’s agency works closely with INTENSE Cycles and helped put this program together. How, we asked them, can dealers most successfully merchandise their new line of E-bicycles and gear, and maximize their investment? Here’s what they said.

FOCUS ON WARRANTY/SET-UP When it comes to warranty and set-up, the motorcycle industry is pretty advanced, so it pays to keep thing similar with E-bikes. “One of the great things about INTENSE Cycles is the comprehensive way they deal with warranty, tech, training and set-up issues,” says Derge. “They’ll make it comfortable for dealers, give them the tools they need (including 20-some tech videos for their technicians), and allow them to do business the way they’re used to doing it. All of that will resonate with customers, too.”

SPONSOR A GNCC RIDER DEMO, DEMO, DEMO “The biggest thing with E-bikes is the transformation that happens the instant folks ride one, so getting potential customers on the bikes is key,” says Burleson. “There’s almost always an ‘Aha!’ moment when people first throw a leg over, but they’ve got to try it, and pedal it, to get it. I’ve watched a lot of E-bike demos in person, and I don’t think I’ve seen anyone get off the thing and not smile. So demo rides are key for dealers, whether they’re in the store’s parking lot, or at a local park, or at some event or open house.”
EXPERT ON STAFF “Just as it’s key to have motorcycle experts on staff,” says Derge, “dealers need an E-bike expert or two to help spread the good word. Problem is, E-bikes are relatively new, so there aren’t a lot of adherents out there … yet. So I’d encourage dealers to engage their staff members by letting them borrow and ride demo bikes whenever possible.”
SOCIAL MEDIA “Social media represents a huge opportunity for dealers to get the message out, about their store, for sure, but also about how cool and fun and functional E-bikes can be,” says Derge. “This is a new category, remember, and there are plenty of ways to make E-bikes compelling and interesting on the social media front. Be creative, and have fun with it.”
“If a dealer has a National Championship GNCC e-MTB event or top-level rider in their area, or even if they don’t, consider sponsoring him or her,” Derge says. “Doing so will bring attention to that great series and your dealership, and attract customers interested in the e-MTB scene.”
TAZER MX: THE CONCEPT Implementing any or all of these merchandizing and marketing suggestions is the first step toward building a successful E-bike business with the INTENSE Tazer MX Pro and Tazer MX Expert, and the associated parts and accessories line. Not to be overlooked, though, is the backstory of how the LeMans Corporation/Parts Unlimited and INTENSE Cycles relationship came to be. As we know in the Powersports business, personal relationships and passion are some of the main driving forces for successful retailing. The LeMans/INTENSE partnership is chock-full of both. For many reasons, economic, cultural and otherwise, traditional bicycle sales have always been a bit tricky for Powersports dealers. But the advent, technological growth and popularity of e-assist bikes – and especially e-MTBs – over the last several years have pushed them fairly solidly into the Powersports arena.
DISPLAYS, POP, CATALOG, ETC. “As always, we’ll help support dealers with all sorts of displays, materials, POP and stands for their bike-sales areas,” says Derge. “We’ve also prepared a 68-page catalog that’s jam-packed with gear and accessories for customers, so we’re pretty confident they’ll have what they’ll need to promote successfully and make their sales areas really sing. Dealers are investing in this opportunity and asking

GENESIS It’s an interesting development, for sure. But how this whole e-bicycle thing came together for LeMans Corp. is maybe even more intriguing. “I’d been following the E-bike progression for several years, especially at the EICMA shows, seeing the impact E-bikes were having on the scooter market,” recalls Derge. “I mean, you can take your E-bike into your apartment in downtown Milan, which is difficult to do with a scooter. Seeing all the brands we know showing off their bikes – KTM, Ducati, Yamaha, etc. – was impressive. “You could see it evolving. Then, when GNCC added an e-MTB class, I said to myself, ‘OK, here it comes.’ If we could get into this with the right product or products, what a great opportunity for our dealers … a whole new product line that would encourage the two-wheel-powered lifestyle for both new and current customers. A win-win.” Derge then attended a GNCC event in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and happened to cross paths with longtime Parts/Moose Racing rider – and old friend – Dick Burleson. “Dick said, ‘What are you doing here?’ and I laughed,” Derge remembers. “I told him I was looking into possibly getting Parts involved in the E-bike market, and he said, ‘Well, you need to talk to Jon-Erik.’ Dick said Jon-Erik [who is Burleson’s son] was working with INTENSE Cycles and owner Jeff Steber, and doing some interesting stuff on the E-bike front. I got in touch with Jon-Erik shortly after that trip, and the rest, as they say, is history.” Turns out Jon-Erik Burleson, ex-president of KTM for several years before establishing his Two Wheel Group in 2017, had plenty to show and tell Derge. The Tazer MX Pro Build features a host of high-quality components, including Renthal Fatbar handlebars. It also has Shimano's most powerful motor, the EP800.
E-BIKE
Motorcycle and ATV/UTV customers tend to understand e-assist bicycles quite a bit more than pedal-only designs, as do many powersport store associates. Add to that the fact that some 80 percent of off-road enthusiasts already own a mountain or road bicycle, and you’ve got the makings of a pretty serious potential market – all of which helps explain why Parts Unlimited joined forces with INTENSE Cycle to build and market the Tazer MX.
24
“We will always stay in our lane, and that means supporting Powersports dealers,” says Parts Unlimited’s Derge. “What’s changed is what’s happening out there. E-bikes are entering our market. Power-assist bicycles really are a power sport. They’re not really bicycles in the traditional sense. Once you get on one it’s a game-changer. Doesn’t matter if you’re into Harleys or UTVs … these things are just really fun to ride. It’s not a bicycle, and it’s not a motorcycle. It’s in the middle, and we feel it fits into our space really well. And, judging by the response we’ve gotten from dealers, they agree.”

“I’d been working with INTENSE and [owner] Jeff [Steber] for a while, and couldn’t help but be impressed,” says the younger Burleson. “Jeff’s a mad-scientist/genius type, and has been on the leading edge of mountain bike design and downhill racing for many, many years. Jeff grew up riding and racing dirtbikes, and brought that mentality to his mountain bike efforts, especially in terms of suspension and chassis design. He’s also based in Temecula, not too far from KTM’s headquarters, and is really connected to the So Cal motocross scene and many of the top riders. Jeff saw early on what e-MTBs could be, and the INTENSE Tazer was the result. “Then my dad met Jeff [Derge] at the GNCC race, and put us together, and I could immediately tell Jeff was seeing what was happening, and seeing the potential,” Burleson remembers. “We connected immediately, coming at things from the same basic point of view and ethos, both of us understanding the Powersports customer and how this might work. We wondered, ‘How can we work together?’ and through those discussions, which involved myself and Derge and Steber and other key folks at INTENSE and Parts Unlimited, the concept of an e-MTB with serious motocross/off-road componentry and flavor began to emerge.”

TAZER MX
The highly tunable Ohlins TTX22M coil shock and Ohlins DH38 race fork mean the Tazer MX Pro can tackle any terrain.
DEVELOPMENT “We started brainstorming and having meetings, some here in Janesville and others at their place in So Cal,” says Derge. “We rode their standard Tazer and of course were impressed, and the idea to outfit the bike with Powersports-oriented componentry – Öhlins suspension, Magura brakes and controls, Renthal handlebar, etc. – seemed solid, as we felt it would resonate best with Powersports customers. The question was, how do we build an e-MTB that will make motorcycle customers go, ‘Oh, man, I need one of those!’ A few months later we saw the prototypes Jeff’s team had put together, and it was a total OMG moment! Really exciting for the entire team, and a great collaboration.” Derge notes that as soon as the project received the green light, he outfitted a standard Tazer with the Öhlins fork and shock, and was immediately impressed. He was able to do stuff on the bike that he couldn’t do on his other bikes, he says. “I met Jon-Erik when KTM moved to So Cal, and it was a natural to work with he and Christy [LaCurelle, Jon-Erik’s business partner] and Two Wheel Group,” says INTENSE CEO Steber. “Jon-Erik’s a big-time enthusiast, a brand guy and he’s brilliant business-wise, and it was immediately obvious he could help us add to our brand image and expand our reach. He was the conduit to Jeff [Derge] and Parts Unlimited. Doing a model focused toward the Powersports customer was a no-brainer for us and for them. We’ve been involved in the moto side of things for a long time, and of course they’re motorcycle guys, so it was a natural. We’re fortunate to have Ryan Dungey involved, as well. Dealers and Parts Unlimited reps responded enthusiastically to the project, grinning like kids during initial demos at the Louisville NVP Product Expo launch in February. So many dealers signed up for the ability to sell Tazer MX models in 2021 that pre-booking had to be halted, at least temporarily. A second phase of dealer bookings will commence shortly, according to Derge.
“Dealers were really positive,” says Burleson. “Based on the info we collected it was obvious they were hungry for the product, and saw this as a strategic move that Parts was making to get in front of the trend. They’re already part of the family, and there’s trust there. If I were a dealer and attended that show, that’s the message I’d take home … that they are thinking about our future. “Hats off to Derge and Parts Unlimited for considering the future and where the sport is going,” says Steber. “E-bikes are obviously the convergence of bikes and moto. They’re quiet, mostly maintenance-free, super-efficient, lightweight, low-emission and a lot of fun. Vehicle electrification is coming. Just look at Tesla. This is a great way for Powersports dealers to get a foot in that doorway. Yes, battery tech is a bit of a limiting factor now, but advances are coming, some from the SpaceX project, just like back in the ’60s when we learned so much from NASA. In five years thing will look much different.”
A FINAL WORD “If I hadn’t met up with Dick Burleson at that GNCC event, things might not have ended up as they have, so I’m pretty happy I did,” says Derge. “This is a really exciting product and program, for us and for dealers and, once they start riding their bikes, our e-MTB customers. I’m stopped on the trail all the time on my Tazer, and everyone asks ‘What do you think?’ and ‘Do you get a great workout?’ … and I say, every time, ‘I love it’ and ‘Yep, I get a killer workout!’ Hard to argue with that.

With this collaboration with INTENSE, THOR has engineered gear designed to not only meet the needs of eMTB riders, but also look the part. Both brands have a long history in racing, and INTENSE being a moto-inspired cycling brand makes it an obvious partner for THOR. The gear will be available exclusively through Parts Unlimited powersports dealerships. Over on the moto side of things, there is the new Reflex helmet, the result of years of research and development – from labs to Supercross stadiums – as well as partnerships with safety firms around the world. In addition to the typical EPS found in a helmet, the Reflex uses a relatively new technology called Koroyd, essentially a cross-sectional layer of tiny welded tubes.

In the event of an impact, the tubes are designed to crush and absorb the energy. Crucially, the rest of the time when there is no impact, the tubes are lightweight and flow air better than the conventional EPS foam. For extra safety, the Reflex also utilizes MIPS technology — a plastic lining between the padding and the impact material that allows the helmet to rotate during a hit and lessen the chances of head injuries from shear forces. This helmet is available with a carbon-fiber or fiberglass-composite shell.

On the apparel front, there’s plenty of advancement as well. The Prime Pro line continues as THOR’s high-end racewear and the choice of factory riders. Most notably, the Prime Pro pant has been updated with a new, lay-flat cinch on the side of the waist in addition to the ratchet system on the front of the pant. This allows more adjustability for riders of all shapes and sizes, and a stronger waistline to keep pants in place when accelerating while sitting down.
palm for ventilation and a hook-and-loop wrist closure for security at speed. THOR’s mid-line racewear, the Pulse lineup, has also been redesigned for 2021. The pant uses durable 600 denier in the seat and knees, combined with generous swaths of the same In-Motion fabric used across the Prime Pro line. The women’s versions of the Pulse jersey and pant have been updated with a more athletic fit, and laser-cut ventilation holes have been added to the jersey for better cooling across the line. If air flow is a maximum priority, the Pulse Air section of the lineup is the place to look. As the name suggests, it abides by many of the same concepts as the Pulse gear, with extra effort put into breathability. The jersey uses a full-mesh main chassis with strategically placed stretch panels. For the rider’s downstairs area, the pant employs THOR’s PowerKnit mesh (a new material for 2021) along with the high-end In-Motion fabric, engineered to be as comfortable as it is rugged.
THOR’S Assist shorts are designed specifically for the eMTB market, and feature the same In-Motion material as the high-end Prime Pro and Pulse lines of moto gear. They’re made to fit great and keep cyclists cool.
There are also new graphics throughout the line. If a rider is after a glove just as ready to go pro as this gear, the original Agile glove has evolved into the Agile Plus. Pro riders sponsored by THOR kept asking for better feel on the bike, more cooling, and a minimalist approach. To answer the call the Agile Plus has a single layer, perforated
On the topic of tough, the Terrain off-road and enduro section of THOR’s collection has been redesigned from the ground up. The mantra behind Terrain gear is to be strong enough to last and comfortable enough to wear all day. Robust outer garments include ripstop polyester — in the knees and saddle of the pant, plus the shoulders and elbows of the jacket — to avoid damage when riding near trees or shrubs. Along with the fit being updated with a more tapered cut, the jacket and pant also feature taped zippers, Hypora membranes, and a durable water-repellant (DWR) coating to resist moisture getting in. Intake and exhaust vents on the jacket have been set in a new pattern to improve airflow when necessary, as has the intake vent on the pant. ■

has been reengineered with flexible sleeve material to avoid damage when brushing up against obstacles in tight spaces. For more information on THOR’s 2021 lineup contact your Parts Unlimited representative and go to www.thormx.com.

MTB TIRES
Go Wild
An eMTB Tire Without Limits The go-anywhere capability of Michelin’s E-Wild tire is due in part to E-Gum-X compounds. This new rubber was developed to provide exceptional grip and traction, even on tough climbs.
I
n 1891, two years after founding their company, brothers Edouard and Andre Michelin were helping a bicyclist repair his tire when they came up with an idea that would revolutionize the tire industry.
Up until then, a bicycle tire and wheel were one gluedtogether component, and it could take days – and a lot of money – to make repairs. The young Michelin company developed and patented a detachable bicycle tire with an inner tube, making punctures much easier to repair and setting a new standard for tires. Continuing that innovative mindset into the 21st century, it’s not surprising that the Michelin E-Wild® tires for mountain bikes with electric assistance (or eMTB) are among the first E-bike products on the market and available through Parts Unlimited. The company might look a lot different today than it did nearly 130 years ago, but Michelin has always been committed to bicycle tire innovation.
E-BIKE
The E-bike category is one of the fastest-growing segments of the cycling industry, and eMTB riding is especially popular with people who are getting back into bicycle riding after a long hiatus.

The E-Wild front and rear tires are designed to get a rider anywhere they want to go, no matter what kind of terrain or elevation is on the route. That go-anywhere capability is due in part to E-Gum-X compounds. This new rubber was developed by Michelin to provide exceptional grip and traction, even on tough climbs. E-Gum-X works by blending lateral and central rubbers designed to optimize grip with a traction-boosting tread pattern based on the Michelin Wild Enduro bicycle tire designs.
Michelin’s Gravity Shield™ casing. Another piece of technology that Michelin developed for premier Enduro bicycle competitions, Michelin Gravity Shield is a specialized casing that provides outstanding protection. Under the casing, an inner layer and central rubber help reduce energy consumption so riders don’t have to limit their time on the go. Parts Unlimited is now stocking optimized front and rear fitments of the Michelin E-Wild tire. Parts reps will be visiting dealers to share details about electric bike fitments. With the integration of brands like Intense now available through Parts Unlimited to its powersports dealers, this is the perfect time to get up to speed on the electric bike market. Founded in 1979, Maxima originally made a name for itself with high-quality two-stroke oils. Over the years Maxima’s lineup has expanded to include a massive selection of 4-stroke oils, coolants, greases, cleaners, and other chemicals, all of which are formulated in Santee, California, and mixed at Maxima’s headquarters. And while Maxima is widely known as a powersports chemical company, not many people are aware that Maxima is also a hardcore bicycle brand. In fact, Maxima has been operating in the bicycle market for more than two decades with top OEMs and has a complete menu of specially formulated maintenance chemicals for your customers to choose from.
One of Maxima’s popular sellers is Chain Pro chain lube, which is a unique product developed to suit the needs of bicycle drivetrains. Chain Pro is an ultra-clean lube for use in dusty conditions, as its dry formula doesn’t attract dirt. With PTFE as the primary lubricant, Chain Pro’s surfaceactive chemistry promotes smooth shifting under load, quiets chain noise, and significantly reduces friction for improved driveline life. It’s recommended that your customers overapply and then wipe off the excess to ensure the best penetration and protection. If you operate in a wetter region and your customers are mashing through rain, mud or even snow, Chain Guard is a better choice for keeping those links happy. This oil-based lube shares the same name as its popular powersports peer, but features a unique formulation free of tackifiers and with a more robust solvent carrier to help penetrate the chain to coat the pins and bushings. This waterproof lube is ideal for wet conditions and offers long-lasting protection. Straddling both dry and wet environments is Maxima’s legendary Chain Wax, which offers more water protection than Chain Pro and is cleaner than Chain Guard. As expected, Maxima revised the Chain Wax recipe to better suit the needs of bicycles. Featuring a paraffin wax base and a strong heptane carrier agent, Chain Wax should be shaken before application and allowed to set up for a few minutes. If your customers ride in mixed conditions or just want to have one lube for every season, Chain Wax is it.

When the ride is over and it’s time to clean up, Maxima’s Bio-Wash is there to help. This product is a direct carryover from the powersports lineup, because there was no way to make it better! Bio-Wash is a unique, 100 percent biodegradable all-purpose cleaner that lifts away dirt and dissolves grime and oil-based deposits. Bio-Wash is tough on dirt, yet gentle enough to use on delicate surfaces including paint, plastic, chrome, anodizing, rubber, carbon fiber, and exotic metals like titanium and magnesium. On top of all that, it smells great! Bio-Wash is an effective, fast-acting cleaner. If a bike has been thrashed and needs a little more than a wash to make it look good again, Maxima’s SC-1 Bike Polish has the nickname of “New bike in a bottle.” This rich polish cleans and protects and makes plastic and painted surfaces look new again with a rich, long-lasting luster. The deep shine is the result of a surface-tenacious, bicycle-specific formulation that forms a durable film that repels mud, dirt and debris so bikes look better, longer.
MAXIMA
Maxima’s lineup of Plush fork oils includes 3, 5, 7 and 10 weights, a perfect complement to the high-end suspensions on the INTENSE Tazer MX models.
Finally, there’s Maxima’s lineup of Plush fork oils, offered in 3, 5, 7, and 10 weights. INTENSE’s new Tazer MX models feature fully adjustable, long-travel suspension front and rear, which can be kept working smoothly with regular oil changes. Plush was developed from the ground up specifically for bicycles, without the viscosity modifiers or stabilizes required for powersports suspension fluids that are exposed to intense heat. These fluids offer consistent damping performance and excellent lubrication for bushings and stanchions, so your customer’s high-end suspension components can perform as intended. Maxima has been a trusted chemical brand in the powersports market for over 40 years, and as your customers enter into the exciting world of E-bikes, Maxima will be there with the lubes, cleaners and maintenance fluids they need. ■

RK 520MXU Extreme elements call for extreme chains. When conditions turn muddy, sandy or wet (or if riders just want a chain that provides consistent horsepower delivery from the start of a race to the end) RK offers a sealed Supercross, motocross and off-road racing chain called the MXU.
When conditions get dirty or if your customers are simply looking for a chain that provides consistent horsepower delivery from the start of a race to the end, there’s RK Chain’s GB520MXU.
Excel’s high-quality flagship rim is the Excel A60 Rim. The A60 was developed specifically for professional Supercross and motocross racing applications. The Excel A60 Rims are structurally 15 percent stronger than current Excel Takasago Rims. They feature a V-Curve profile to help mud slide off the rim better, helping reduce rotating wheel mass. The A60 is only available in black and is characterized by a metallic silver pin stripe on both sides of the rim. Excel A60 rims are available in a range of sizes, and can be laced to both stock and aftermarket hubs. These are the rims used by 7-time GNCC champion Russell, and 2019 AMA Super Endurocross Champion and Husqvarna rider Colton Haaker.
EXCEL RACING RIMS – TAKASAGO RIMS Excel’s Takasago Series Rims are also suitable for Supercross/motocross racing, and are constructed from 7 series aluminum alloy that meets or exceeds OEM-quality specifications. Unlike the Excel A60, Excel Takasago rims are available in a wider range of colors and sizes. Rim colors include Black, Gold, Silver, Blue and Yellow*. There are Takasago Rim width and diameter choices for everything from mini-bikes to Adventure machines. Excel Takasago rims can be laced to both stock and aftermarket hubs. Excel Takasago Rims are used by 2020 250 West Coast SX Champion and THOR/Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis *Please Note – Not all colors are available for all sizes. ■

OILS & LUBRICANTS
Race Ready, Street Savvy
High-Performance Oil for Track and Street engine cleanliness and reduced friction. The low level of friction reduces wear and tear, of course, but it also helps the engine deliver more horsepower. Clearly, those additives make a big difference in an engine’s health and capabilities. According to Oliver Kuhn, deputy head of the oil laboratory at LIQUI MOLY, additives are an important factor to consider when it comes to choosing the right oil. Kuhn says that “the additive packages are becoming increasingly important. Today, they are the most important component of a motor oil besides the actual oil. They provide a large part of the motor oil’s performance. With some very modern motor oils, the base oil is hardly more than just the carrier fluid for the additive packages.” LIQUI MOLY has dozens of motorcycle engine oils available, which means that finding the right one for any particular bike can sometimes be a challenge. Talk with your Parts Unlimited sales rep for some insight, and check out LIQUI MOLY’s convenient oil guide on its website. The LIQUI MOLY Synth 4T 5W-40 Race oil is available in a range of sizes. For dealers, there are 205-liter and 60-liter drums as well as the more compact size of a 20-liter container, which tucks neatly onto a shelf or inside a cabinet. Customers can opt for a 4-liter or 1-liter size. ■

CLUTCH KITS
Clutching Done Right Fixing Those Big-Tire Blues
Big-inch tires are a common addition for many side-by-side owners. Trinity Racing’s clutch kits are a great choice after the upgrade.
I
t seems like the saying “bigger is better” continues to prove true. With 30-inch, 32-inch, and even 35-inch tires becoming the standard upgrade on many popular side-by-side models, getting the clutching right on your customer’s car is more important than ever. Installing larger tires increases a vehicle’s unsprung weight, rotational mass and changes its gearing. This, in turn, will cause the vehicle to accelerate slower and feel more sluggish, especially from a stop. Additionally, these large tire upgrades will put more stress on the stock clutch. Trinity Racing has a great solution for improving a sideby-side’s performance after installing those bigger tires. Adding a Trinity Racing clutch kit will make up for the larger tires by replacing the stock clutch springs and weights. The Trinity springs and weights are designed specifically for the increased tire size, allowing for your customer’s vehicle to perform as well as it did before the larger tires were installed. In addition to custom tuned springs and weights, the Trinity clutch kit also includes an Extreme drive belt. Let your customers know you can either install it on their vehicles after the clutch kit is installed, or offer up as a spare if the stock belt is still in good working order. The Trinity Extreme belt has a 1 year warranty when paired with the clutch kit, so your customers can be confident in the performance and longevity.

When your customers upgrade to larger tires on their side-by-sides, let them know about Trinity Racing’s clutch kits. The Trinity springs and weights are designed for the larger tire sizes and allow the vehicle to really perform after the upgrade.
In addition to the Extreme belt, Trinity also offers the Sandstorm belt and World’s Best Belt. Each belt is slightly stronger than the next, so if your customer is having belt problems it’s probably time to upgrade to a Trinity Racing unit. Each clutch kit is designed to fit a specific vehicle, and for specific conditions. For example, if your customer rides mostly at higher elevations and runs stock sized tire, Trinity has a kit for that. If your customer rides at low elevations and runs a 32-inch tire, Trinity also have a kit for that. What makes the Trinity Racing clutch kits so great is that they take all of the guess work out of tuning a clutch. Choose the elevation and tire size, install onto the vehicle, and go! ■

ube-type subwoofers aren’t new to audiophiles – in fact many of us built one using plywood for the trunk of our first teenage beater car. Just like the appreciation for more sophisticated transportation has grown over the years, so has the love for high-quality audio. You and your customers can now get serious bass sound in a side-by-side, watercraft or even a three-wheeled motorcycle. The KICKER Audio TB Sub System delivers improved audio performance in a package that delivers space-saving convenience and secure mounting. Some tube and boxed subwoofers can be inconvenient to use, with little or no method to mount well. That’s not acceptable when that vehicle is scrambling up rocky mountain trails or miles of fire road.
The eight-spoke grille on the ends of the enclosure add protection and a powerful look – your customers may not want to hide the TB Sub System.
KICKER builds the TB System in 8-inch and 10-inch sizes, each available with either 2 ohm or 4 ohm speakers. Both sizes are durably assembled to bring the bass and to withstand tough conditions. The ceramic magnet in the KICKER CompR sub helps produce the powerful sound, and is also more durable with its natural corrosion resistance. The sub is also designed with better suspension and heat management. The KICKER reFLEX sub, mounted on the opposite end of the TB enclosure, is a passive radiator that allows the CompR active sub to deliver that deep and powerful bass bump. The TB Sub System comes in a compact tubular package made of thick, weatherproof ABS and it uses an innovative mounting bracket. It’s two brackets, actually, allowing simple and secure mounting in vertical or horizontal orientation. That security is essential when mounting the TB System in a Polaris RZR, Honda Talon, or other UTV.

The company has designed and built professional audio systems since 1973. KICKER began with a mobilefocused speaker box to improve car and truck audio. Its business has evolved into a complete range of audio products – speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers, headphones, and accessories – for vehicles, homes, and personal use. ■

esigning gear that’s bold without looking pretentious is an art form. At Icon, that approach is nothing new. The Airflite Peace Keeper is just the latest example of Icon’s balancing act between edgy and understated. The Airflite Peace Keeper comes in only two solid-color choices – black or white. No logos, no graphics and no fuss. That way, the details of the helmet itself become the star of the show, from the radical styling of the shield to the aerodynamic angles of the Airflite Airfoil SB up top. Both of the Peace Keeper color options come ready-to-ride with an RST Dark Gold Fliteshield, a Dark Smoke Dropshield inside and an Airflite Airfoil SB in a color that matches the helmet. A clear Fliteshield is also included in the package. The Airflite Peace Keeper is only one choice in over 600 possible looks for the Airflite helmet. For a lot of street helmets, the only way to change up the look is to swap out the shield. There are a lot more choices to make with the Icon Airflite helmet. Both the Icon Fliteshield and internal Dropshield visor can be changed, as can the Airflite Spoiler on the back of the helmet. There is also an option to add a Supermoto-style visor or the Airflite Airfoil SB. Every piece, of course, is available in different colors, and the helmet itself comes in multiple solid color and graphic designs.
The Airflite Peace Keeper comes in black or white. No logos, no graphics and no fuss. That way, the details of the helmet itself become the star of the show.
The Airflite Airfoil SB adds a big dose of style, and it’s available in five different colors, including the impossibleto-miss rainbow-hued Prism. The visor, with three color and finish options to choose from, lets a rider create a Supermoto look, especially when the Fliteshield is removed to make way for goggles. There are also six available colors for the Icon Fliteshield, Dropshield and spoiler. Whatever the helmet winds up looking like, the Airflite is, of course, primarily designed to keep watch over a rider’s head. The strong injection-molded polycarbonate shell saves both drag and weight, thanks in part to the carefully sculpted neckline that is designed to avoid interfering with a jacket. Four strategically placed intake vents direct air through deep channels between the EPS liner and comfort liner to keep a rider’s head cool, pushing the air through two exhaust vents in the rear of the helmet. Heads stay even cooler with the addition of the Hydradry liner, which fits snugly while wicking moisture and heat away from the rider’s skin. ■

LED LIGHTING
Lean In and Light Up Illuminating the Dark Corners
A
nyone who has ever leaned a motorcycle into a corner in the dark of night has likely wished for a bit more illumination in the darkened edges of the road. J.W. Speaker is helping to make that wish a visible reality with its Adaptive 2 Headlight series. Lean and see the light, literally. For 85 years, J.W. Speaker Corporation has designed and manufactured high-performance vehicle lighting products from its headquarters in Germantown, Wisconsin. For a range of vehicles from fire trucks to 18 wheelers, Jeeps, and motorcycles, J.W. Speaker engineers a headlight solution. For street-bike riders, its Adaptive 2 series headlights deserve a closer look. Lean in and you’ll see. When a motorcycle rider leans into a turn and looks ahead around the bend, they need to see what’s around the corner. And that’s not always easy at night with traditional headlamps. The J.W. Speaker Adaptive 2 technology is created for exactly that situation – upon lean it redirects the headlight’s light array to maximize illumination into the rider’s intended path. Using proprietary technology and onboard lean-angle sensors, the Adaptive 2 headlights calculate the bike’s bank angle in real time, directing light where traditional headlights can’t.

With J.W. Speaker’s Adaptive 2 technology, your customers can experience well-lit corners while threading through the twisties at night.
Originally designed for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and with technology that allowed for only low-beam lean-angle adaptation, the newer Adaptive 2 Series technology applies to the LED’s high beams as well as low beams. And the product now features fitment for a range of metric bikes. Your customers who ride BMW, Ducati, Kawasaki, Moto Guzzi, Triumph, and Yamaha motorcycles – many street and dual-sport bikes – can benefit from the Adaptive 2 headlamp illumination. The Adaptive 2 technology senses leaning angles up to 30 degrees, and the LEDs dynamically fill in dark areas while the bike is leaned and cornering. This light works as a replacement for 7-inch (PAR56) or 5¾-inch (PAR46) original equipment, and is available in chrome or black. J.W. Speaker engineers created unique mounting brackets to help the Adaptive 2 lights fit a range of metric motorcycles. The lights are compliant with both DOT and ECE regulations. ■

Totally True Duals
Performance Pipes for the Indian Challenger

ith the Scout, FTR 1200 and now the Challenger all added to the model lineup, Indian Motorcycle has given riders the option of everything from the vintage-vibe bikes they began with to stripped-down hot rods, to a performance-oriented Bagger loaded with 21st century technology, the Challenger.
These True Duals start with stepped-design headpipes. Crafted with tough, industrial-chromed mild steel, for maximum performance, the True Duals system features 1¾-inch diameter headpipes that step-up to a 17/8-inch diameter. The size of those pipes and placement of the steps were carefully worked out to deliver maximum exhaust flow for the Challenger’s liquid-cooled PowerPlus engine.
Bassani Xhaust has been right there through all of this, too. Bassani’s upgraded performance pipes and mufflers are available for all those Indians, including the liquid-cooled/ SOHC/multi-valved performance cruising Challenger. Bassani has a spectrum of exhaust choices for this newest Indian, including 4-inch Straight Can slip-ons available for it, Road Rage 2-into-1 systems and a full True Duals system.
The system terminates with an equally special pair of matching 4-inch mufflers using specially designed perforated baffles that also deliver an aggressive exhaust tone perfectly in-tune with this power cruiser’s mission. Bassani’s furnished 12mm O2 bungs in the stock locations with 18mm bungs down further along the pipes for custom-tuning purposes. Like all the Bassani pipes and mufflers for the Indian Challenger, the new stepped-header True Duals are also available with the choice of a chrome or black finish. The True Duals come with full-length heat shields covering the headpipes. ■

True Duals are an exhaust style that’s been popular with Bagger riders for decades. It’s a classic. Wheels and Tires for Serious Sand
This RZR custom built for JL Audio features those deep-digging, smooth-steering Sand King tires mounted up to AMS’ Roll’n 108 wheels.

O
ne of the most appealing things about UTVs is their versatility. All it really takes to convert a RZR or any other rig from a rock-garden romper into a dune-dominator is a new set of tires.
For your customers that are heading out to the beach, dunes, or the wash, the Sand King tires from AMS are just the thing to get their UTV ready for some fun in the sand. Pair them with a set of stylish AMS wheels – like the Roll’n 108s – and your customer’s conversion is as quick and easy as zapping a few lug nuts. Offered in 30x11-14 and 32x11-15 fronts, and 30x14-14 and 32x14-15 rears to cover both 14-inch and 15-inch wheels, the Sand Kings are fully optimized with a four-ply carcass that’s both tough and lightweight. For improved traction and handling, the Sand Kings feature a wide profile that provides excellent float, while balanced grip is delivered thanks to carefully developed tread designs that are fine tuned to function in soft sand.

All sizes of Sand King feature a front tire with a ¾-inch tall solid center rib flanked by ¾-inch tall segmented side ribs for precise steering control, while the rear tire is stacked with rows of paddles that dig into the sand to put the horsepower to the ground. The 14-inch rear tires are equipped with fourteen 1-inch paddles and the 15’s get fifteen of them, ensuring strong, consistent traction in even the deepest sand. Complementing the Sand Kings are AMS’s distinctive Roll’n 108 wheels. Made from cast aluminum, these hoops are painted black and have alternating split and single spokes to help balance strength and weight. Offered in 15x8 front and 15x10 rears for larger vehicles, the 108s are also available in 14x8 front and 14x10 rear in both 4/137 and 4/156 bolt patterns to fit a variety of popular UTVs and ATVs. Both the Sand Kings and Roll’n 108 wheels recently made an appearance on a custom RZR XP Turbo built by The Brand Smith Co. for JL Audio for the Camp RZR event hosted by Polaris. JL Audio’s RZR was rolling on the same tires and wheels your customers can buy for their vehicles. And when it comes to tire and wheel selection, it’s hard to beat the variety or value offered by AMS. ■

New Season, New Style Fall 2020 Off-Road Gear
T
he fall season brings a lot of things, like cooler weather, changing leaves and pumpkin-spiced everything. For people who are more interested in motorcycles than in fancy flavored coffee, fall is also the time for new products. Moose Racing has both adult and youth riders covered with a Fall 2020 list of new helmet and gear choices.
Another update to the Moose Racing line are the Qualifier Youth Agroid goggles. They come in eight different color choices, and they are made to withstand the ups and downs of youth riding. The flexible, durable goggle frames are vented, and the large eye port is fitted with a scratch-resistant and anti-fog coating. Replacement lenses and tear-offs are available separately.
The updated F.I. Agroid helmet has graphics in four colorways that coordinate with the style and colors of the Agroid pants and jerseys, but it’s what’s on the inside that really makes this a standout helmet.
The weather might be cooling off right now, but it’s never too early to think about next season’s heat waves. The Sahara is the ideal gear for hot-weather racing and riding, and there are six new colorways to choose from. The jersey and pants are both made from a highly-ventilated mesh chassis to make sure a rider stays comfortable no matter what the temperature is.
The F.I. Agroid features MIPS technology. The MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) consists of a low-friction layer inserted between the shell and the liner of the helmet, and it is designed to help deflect energy during an angled head impact. The low-friction layer allows a slight sliding motion in all directions, which reduces the rotational motion that is transmitted to the brain in an impact. By absorbing and deflecting some of that force, the MIPS BPS system is designed to reduce the risk of brain injury. Other performance features of the F.I. Agroid are an extralarge eyeport, a unique friction hinge visor that is easy to adjust, nine intake vents and three exhaust vents plus a removable, washable inner liner.
In addition to heat management, the Sahara jersey has an athletic fit and stretch capability to give a rider a full range of motion. The Sahara pants have a reinforced high-denier polyester seat and full-grain leather inner knee panels for an extra layer of support. The knees also feature mesh panels that increase the airflow. The M1 line is the workhorse of Moose Racing gear, and the durable jersey has updated graphics with five color options. The athletic-cut M1 jersey has micro mesh panels for ventilation, and the quick-drying fabric helps wick away sweat. The black M1 pants are made of a highdenier polyester chassis with double- and triple-stitched seams and a reinforced seat panel to ensure strength. The pattern on the knee panels promotes better ventilation and flexibility, while the pre-bent legs are comfortable right from the start. A new look for the Qualifier jersey and pants includes six colorways sublimated onto the generously-cut pieces. Featuring maximum comfort and range of motion, the Qualifier line is great for all kinds of off-road riding. The Qualifier pants have double stitching and stretch panels, and the reinforced knee panels provide an extra layer of abrasion resistance.

The Qualifier jacket is designed for versatility in varying temperatures. The 2-in-1 design includes zip-off sleeves, and there are plenty of adjustable vents, including two in both the front and back plus pit vents. Design details for comfort include a pre-bent ergonomic sleeve design and adjustable cuffs. Storage space abounds with hand pockets, one back pocket and one inside pocket. The perfect complement to the Qualifier jacket is the Qualifier overpant. The zippered leg opening makes them easy to get on over boots and pants. Mobility on the bike is no problem thanks to an oversized knee area, a pre-bent leg design and stretch panels. The high-denier polyester chassis has improved ventilation so things don’t get too hot. ■

Better Acceleration and Cornering This twosome of performance upgrades utilizes a unique design that features two different lug heights across the face of the track. The 1½-inch cupped center lugs dig deeper into the snow between the slide rails than a typical stock track to provide outstanding traction for acceleration or braking. The 1¼-inch outer lugs ease maneuvering effort and conserve sled momentum when altering the direction of travel no matter whether it is slight or tight.
SNOWMOBILE TRACK
Storm the Trails
Optimized design and rubber compounds in the support columns provide the right rigidity and flexibility all the way across the lug faces to insure maximum performance. The Storm twins also yield excellent floatation in off-trail situations.
Camso Storm 150 high-performance trail tracks
Available in 2.86-inch drive pitch models for today’s sophisticated riderforward snow stompers, Camso Storm 150 and ICE Storm 150 tracks fit 15-inch by 120-inch, 129-inch, 137-inch and 146-inch applications. The two-ply Storm 150 versions weigh the same as the corresponding single-ply ICE Storm versions with their factory-installed ice studs. Both versions weigh less than the typical 1½-inch lug track, too. Camso’s unique Ice Control Enhancement (ICE) technology enhances sled grip on frozen surfaces to improve acceleration, braking and cornering on slippery surfaces. This provides maximum sled control on frozen run-off across trails, bare ice on rivers and lakes, glazed-over hill sides and other slippery trail conditions, as well as hard packed snow on wellgroomed trails. ICE Storm 150 tracks carry between 128 and 153 light weight sharptip lug studs depending on track length. And, they do not require continuing maintenance like conventional track studs, either. ■

eveloped for the discerning snow rider who wants better total performance than that provided by a stock 1¼-inch lug track, but with better cornering than a full 1½-inch lug track typically allows, the Camso Storm 150 and ICE Storm 150 deliver thundering acceleration and better braking with less push in the corners no matter if it’s on or off the trail.

Parts Protectors
Off-Road Guides, Sliders and Skid Plates
T
here’s an old saying that tires are the only accessory that touches the ground, but off-road riders will tell you that’s simply not true. Whether it’s grit flying into the drivetrain or logs, stumps, and rocks skidding under the bike, there’s plenty of earth that touches the bottom of a machine designed for the dirt.
The roots of T.M. Designworks are still its bread and butter – protective and low-friction performance parts for chain systems. That means front chain sliders, rear chain guides and sprocket covers, using a proprietary blend of plastic designed to balance the factors important to off-road and dirt competition.
That’s where the T.M. Designworks line of products comes in, engineered to protect the powertrain and driveline of dirtbikes and ATVs in any and all conditions. The company is new to the Parts Unlimited lineup.
Some parts are molded, but many of the pieces in T.M. Designworks’ lineup (all of the rear chain guides, for example) are machined just like billet aluminum would be. High-end rear chain guides, like the Factory Edition 2, even offer replacement lower wear pads that can be swapped without having to replace the whole unit.
In the mid 1980s, when ATV production and sales were taking off, Tim McGeary was living deep in the off-road and mini motocross scene in Southern California. Adapting some of his knowledge of riding in the dirt, he began making chain sliders and guards for popular ATVs of the era. What began as outfitting Suzuki QuadRacers and Yamaha Banshees became T.M. Designworks, which still manufactures parts for ATVs and has grown to primarily build parts for dirt bikes.
The idea behind using high-grade plastic instead of aluminum is to allow the pieces to flex when needed, while being strong enough to endure impacts from debris or crashes. Those same theories apply to the plethora of other parts that T.M. Designworks now makes in addition to drivetrain systems. Skid plates, for one, are made from CNC machined plastic and use many principles that the company has learned over the years. Low friction plastic is ideal for a dirtbike to slide over an obstacle in the trail, while the thickness can be tuned to offer enough protection when it hits something, while also flexing and returning to its original shape. When it comes to the bottom of a bike touching the ground, it’s better to be one step ahead than one step behind. T.M. Designworks makes chain guides and sliders, rollers, case covers, and skid plates for most dirtbikes and ATVs available today. ■

etting out of a tight spot just got a little easier and a lot more high-tech. WARN has recently introduced the IP68 HUB wireless receiver, which allows a user to operate the WARN AXON or VRX winch via their smart device. The HUB includes a custom app that WARN developed for both iOS and Android devices. The app communicates with the IP68 HUB via Bluetooth, allowing the user to operate the winch from up to 100 feet away. In addition, the app displays the vehicle’s battery voltage for added assurance. When paired with the AXON winch, the app will also monitor the winch’s load and motor temperature. The HUB receivers come in two configurations, one for each winch model, but both are compact and lightweight, mounting easily to any tube or flat surface with the aid of built-in mounting features and included zip ties. The HUB for the VRX winch includes a six-foot wiring harness, which enables the receiver to be mounted up under the hood to make sure it stays securely tucked away.
New from WARN is the IP68 HUB wireless receiver. The plug-and-play device allows a user to operate a WARN AXON or VRX winch via Bluetooth with their smart device.
The waterproof IP68 HUB has easy plugand-play installation. A multi-color LED indicates the receiver status, and the electronics are sealed to prevent any of the elements on the outside from getting inside. The AXON and VRX winches are WARN’s latest-generation winches, which provide high-performance winching for ATVs and UTVs. The AXON winches are ideal for large ATVs and two-person or four-person UTVs. The smaller VRX winches are best suited to ATVs and two-person UTVs. The AXON winches feature advanced technology and controls, allowing users to monitor details like temperature. There are several configurations available, including pulling capacities of 3500, 4500 and 5500 pounds and a choice of either steel or Spydura synthetic rope. The AXON winches feature all-metal construction with waterproof sealing to completely protect critical components from water and mud. The AXON motor is combined with a digital contactor to create a unit called a
Motactor. The Motactor reduces installation time by up to 50 percent, increases performance and provides precise monitoring of speed, load and motor temperature. The WARN VRX winch is available in pulling capacities of 2500 pounds, 3500 pounds and 4500 pounds. Synthetic and steel rope options are available, and both choices have an increased diameter and are rated to exceed the stated load limit. A metal housing and drivetrain, waterproof sealing and robust clutch all ensure that the VRX is a durable blend of performance and value. ■

otorcycle chains and sprockets work together, and while some riders will replace one without the other, quite often when it’s time for a new chain it’s time for new sprockets. For the health of that whole driveline, it’s suggested to replace both at the same time. Regina Chain has all the replacements that riders need; new, upgrade chains by themselves and chains as part of matched chain-and-sprockets sets. he UTV market didn’t originate with the Polaris RZR 800, but the popularity of side-by-sides clearly grew exponentially thanks to the RZR’s impressive production run of 12 years and counting. Today many of those early Polaris runabouts and racers have logged enough miles to warrant replacing certain parts, among them pistons.
With a 12-year production run, there are plenty of those popular Polaris RZR 800 models out there. When it’s time for an engine rebuild, let your customers know about the complete line of piston kits from ProX Racing Parts.
And a popular source for new slugs to fit the RZR 800 lineup is ProX Racing Parts, offering complete piston kits for the Polaris RZR and Sportsman 800 models. Each kit, available from Parts Unlimited, contains a piston, compression and oil-control rings, wrist pin, and circlips, making for quick and easy replacement. ProX RZR 800 pistons are manufactured using an AC8A cast alloy that’s equivalent to the original material used by Polaris. This alloy offers low thermal expansion for a stable structure and long-term reliable performance. Each piston crown is fully machined and hard-anodized, as is the piston’s top ring groove to improve heat and wear resistance, plus minimize the chance of ring micro-welding.
A special MOS2 skirt coating enables the piston skirt to conform to the cylinder’s bore during break-in, plus allows for a tighter fit with reduced friction during engine operation. The result is increased performance with minimal wear. ProX RZR 800 pistons come in standard 79.95mm bore size, plus incremental oversizes of 79.96mm and 79.97mm, for proper piston-to-wall clearance, even with slightly worn cylinders. ProX piston kits are available for 2009 – 2014 RZR 800 models and 2008 – 2009 Sportsman 800s. ■

Tools for a Job Done Right Among Motion Pro’s innovative shop tools is its patented Ringer Fork Seal Driver, a handy item for installing or servicing front fork seals to fork legs ranging from 35mm to 50mm diameter. The Ringer’s patented design makes it a great choice for replacing older, and commonly used, two-piece pin-aligned seal drivers that rely on a pin to insert into a corresponding pin hole to lock the two-part fork seal driver into place. A slight movement between the seal driver halves can cause them to separate upon impact, risking damage to the fork seal or tube body itself.

very bit of roost thrown and every hill climbed is accomplished thanks to the hard work performed by an engine’s pistons. And, whether your customers are competing with their UTVs and want more performance or they have a high-use vehicle that needs an engine refresh, JE Pistons are an ideal choice for their rebuild.
JE puts a great deal of emphasis on the quality of their kits in terms of materials and features. For heavily boosted applications, pistons are manufactured with reinforced ring lands to withstand increased chamber pressure. Other piston designs use side-relief forgings that reduce skirt material to a minimum for reduced weight. Small System, Big Sound Taking Tunes to UTVs
Hoppe’s new Audio Mini features KICKER components to deliver outstanding audio quality. The rugged setup can withstand rough terrain and bad weather. Customers can stream music via Bluetooth or listen to AM/FM radio.

ure, the “U” in UTV stands for “utility,” but that doesn’t mean it has to be all work and no play. Hoppe is firmly on the fun side of things in the UTV world. The new Audio Mini stereo bar is Hoppe’s latest audio solution, giving UTV owners the ability to easily take their tunes with them. The Audio Mini comes in three fitments to fit both two-door and four-door Can-Am Defender, Kawasaki Mule Pro and Polaris Ranger models. The whole assembly simply bolts in with two powder coated brackets that mount to the factory chassis, and the included wiring harness is a straightforward plugand-play operation. Hoppe created the Audio Mini as a solution for UTV owners who want an expertly engineered, greatsounding system without making any modifications. While some owners want to go big with a product like the Hoppe Audio Shade, which completely replaces the stock roof, others prefer the simplicity – and the price point – of the Audio Mini. Now, customers can keep their roof while still getting the great sound of a Hoppe system. The Audio Mini has a fiberglass composite shell designed to match the style lines of each available UTV fitment. The construction process provides ultimate rigidity and strength. Rigidity is actually a key component of great sound, since it supports a clean sound on both ends of the spectrum – bass and high frequencies. On top of everything is a Hoppe liner coating with sealed enclosures, which provides all-weather protection. Consider the dome light an added bonus. Quality engineering and construction are certainly among the more important aspects in the Hoppe Audio Mini, but of course great sound is a part of the equation, too. Hoppe products feature KICKER components to deliver both outstanding audio quality as well as powersports-specific

parts that can stand up to the uneven terrain, bad weather and other factors a UTV might encounter. The Audio Mini features four KICKER 6-inch KM Series speakers with four Ohm voice coils and ½-inch PEI tweeters. The woofer features Santoprene Surround. KICKER tunes its speakers to provide crystal-clear, distortion-free sound even while underway so trail noise won’t be a hindrance. Customers can listen to their own music via Bluetooth or opt for the included AM/FM radio. The KICKER KMC2 multimedia receiver is as tough as the rest of the Audio Mini when it comes to weather and water resistance. The setup has 200-watt peak power, which packs a punch for an audio system that comes in a mini size. ■
