What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been by D on Em de
R
emember way back in February when we were watching TV reports about the Coronavirus as it spread around the world like wildfire, forcing stay-at-home orders, international border closures and shutting down businesses? It seems like years ago, but it’s actually only been ten months. No one knew exactly what to expect. Initially, there were many concerns throughout the motorcycle industry in America that all of our businesses here would grind to a halt. But as calls went out to the many doctors, nurses, police, fire and all the other frontline workers, it quickly became clear that many types of small businesses were essential and needed to stay open. Obviously, the gas stations, grocery stores and pharmacies needed to stay open to serve the needs of the public. But what about the motorcycle and other retail stores? Many of these frontline workers commuted by motorcycle and they needed parts and service to keep their machines running so they could get to their workplaces.
Once the lockdowns started to loosen up a bit, other motorcycle riders started to realize that riding their motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs fit perfectly into the definition of how to enjoy life without risking spreading the virus to others. While some sat on their couches watching TV, many people wanted to get out, and motorcyclists began riding alone or in small groups and off-roaders and campers took to the deserts and mountain country. Off-roading especially took off, with the industry experiencing an almost-50% increase in off-road vehicle sales through the third quarter this year. And in addition to new bikes, sales of tires, accessories and parts for existing machines went through the roof. SPOTLIGHT ON TOOLS
Thankfully, the American Motorcyclist Association, Motorcycle Industry Council and Motorcycle Safety Foundation worked together and had their government relations staffs in Washington, D.C. put in the requests to get motorcycle retail stores approved as essential businesses to keep the workers’ machines running. Fortunately, they were successful, and we should all be grateful for that. Open Air, Avoiding Crowds, Social Distancing…That’s Us!
We feature Tools in this issue which do double duty for shop use in your service departments, as well as products to sell over the counter sales to your customers for their own use. Parts Unlimited has many pages in its catalogs devoted to special tools which helps make the service work at your store go quicker and easier, as well as for those Do-It-Yourselfers at home. The easier you make it, the more enjoyable the sport is for your customers. As we close out 2020, we have much to be thankful for that the positive aspects of our many powersport vehicle segments shined brightly when our country needed it. Let’s keep that momentum going strong in 2021. We wish all of our readers, sponsors and advertisers all the best of the holiday season. ■

NEWS EVENTS Bauman Repeats as AFT SuperTwins Champion Scott Hunter/American Flat Track photos
F
ollowing 15 rounds of epic Progressive American Flat Track action, Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties/ Indian rider Briar Bauman successfully completed his bid to repeat as AFT SuperTwins Champion in the AFT Finale at Daytona II. Even with an extended pandemic-imposed pause, the highly anticipated 2020 showdown between Bauman and multi-time series king and Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties/ Indian teammate Jared Mees proved more than worth the wait. The momentum swung back and forth on a nearly weekend-by-weekend basis, leaving both superstars still in control of their destiny heading into the Daytona finale. Bauman seized control of the title fight with a clutch runnerup finish in the first race of the Daytona double-header, which seemingly made the final task before him relatively easy by his standards. All he needed to do at Daytona International Speedway the next night was score an eighth-place finish to cap off a title defense that saw him rack up six wins, four seconds, three thirds, and one seventh along the way. However, the level of difficulty was ratcheted up significantly due to weather. Rainy conditions forced multiple delays in the program, the Semis were cancelled, and the AFT SuperTwins presented by Vance & Hines Main was pushed to the front of the pack once conditions allowed to ensure the season’s premier-class champ was crowned before the night was over. The changes and unpredictability of the

day could have easily thrown an admittedly stressed Bauman out of his rhythm. Instead he responded like a champion. Starting on the front row with Mees as a result of their qualifying performance, Bauman got away in third and glued himself to the rear wheel of his championship rival. Bauman, Mees and the other riders battled it out, with the final outcome of Bauman landing a title-clinching fourth-place finish, and Mees a second-place finish, for a second overall for the season.

NEWS EVENTS Virtual Show a Big Success! PARTS CANADA NAILS IT WITH ONLINE CONFERENCE As part of the Virtual Dealer Conference, Parts Canada also held a Virtual Show and Shine, which was sponsored by Drag Specialties vendor Legend Suspensions.
I
n April of 2020, the world was being consumed by Coronavirus pandemic confusion. Professional sports were on hold, week-long school spring breaks were looping on repeat and entertainment venues were left empty. It was becoming increasingly evident that everything and everyone was in for a ride no one had been on before. Uncertain of what was to come, Covid-19 had businesses battening down, tightening up and canceling just about everything. It was clear to the team at Parts Canada that traveling for upcoming events would be complicated, at best. Plans for shows and events were put on hold, but the need to reach the dealer network, was not. After pitching a “we have nothing to lose” idea to Parts Canada CEO, James Danyluk, the Parts Canada marketing team started researching options for what would eventually become the first industry “trade-show style” virtual conference, the Parts Canada Virtual Conference 2020.
Cory Joiner of Muskoka Rent All took first place with his custom Honda TRX race quad, featuring a 2019 fuel-injected CRF250 engine in a 2008 TRX chassis.
Gord Inglis of Inglis Cycle tied for third with an ultra-clean low-mileage 2006 Ducati Paul Smart edition 1000 SportClassic. Smart even autographed the bike after riding it at Mosport raceway in Ontario.

Z1R was one of dozens of vendors who held online presentations for dealers attending the Virtual Conference.
The approach to create the event was not unlike the approach taken to create any other event. And, it was important to the marketing team to make the virtual experience as close to a live trade show experience as possible. “The personal interaction of trade shows is such an important aspect of the business we do, and we wanted to extend that in any way we could with the virtual event,” said Laura Lenko-Graham, marketing manager of Parts Canada. The challenge was not only to create a virtual conference with a few keynote speakers, some big advertisers and a chat room – much like the shows dealers and vendors are used to – but to also give our virtual experience the familiarity of a live show. According to the marketing team, this presented some technical hiccups. The expectations that the Parts Canada team had were not always in-line with the prefab virtual conference platforms that were readily available, however platform provider, EventMobi, were able to accommodate most of the team’s demands. Tech companies too were learning new things as the pandemic-pressured businesses to find ways to connect virtually. Was the conference a success? CEO Danyluk was very pleased with the results of the event and had many dealers and vendors reach out to him to share their enthusiasm.
“Some of our toughest critics were our own sales team,” Danyluk said. “We always set the bar high and most of their remarks were to expand on how we can set it even higher the next time. We had very positive response”. Lenko-Graham added that the marketing team did a survey as part of the event and the response was overwhelmingly positive. “Like any show, if you go with a plan of action, know who you want to see and create meetings with, and you know what you want to get out of it, you’ll have a very successful show,” she said. “If you don’t do that, as a dealer or as a vendor, you’ll come up short. This was no different.” According to Lenko-Graham, not only did the customer-facing portion of the conference of the show go well, things went as planned behind the scenes too. “Could we have done things differently or better? Absolutely. Not having previous virtual show experience meant we had to create our own starting point,” she said. “Like any event, we will learn from the experience so the next time we can do it better. I’m incredibly proud of our team for going out on this virtual limb. We will always strive to be leaders of our industry and we’re constantly strategizing on how we can do more for our dealers and the powersports community.” ■

2020 PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP FERRANDIS CROWNED 250 MX CHAMPION

"It's a great accomplishment to win the 250 National Motocross Championship," said newly crowned Champ, Dylan Ferrandis.
T
he 2020 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series is over and it was another great season for Parts Unlimited/THOR racers. Many of the THOR riders put in great performances, with moto wins and podiums, but the stand-out is Dylan Ferrandis who is the new 250 Pro Motocross Champion for 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic began in mid-March, the whole season was in question. However, MX Sports worked well with local restrictions at the various tracks to put together a season of nine televised events that resulted in some of the best motocross racing in years. After starting the year with a second 250 Supercross West title, THOR/Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis kicked off the 250 Pro Motocross season strong by taking both moto wins at the season opener at Loretta’s. He stayed strong most of the season but was in a race-by-race dogfight with Jeremy Martin. Martin had the points lead when the series moved to Spring Creek in mid-September. The season was coming to the final few events and every position and moto were critical. Ferrandis got a good start in moto 1, quickly moved into the lead and gained a bunch of title points by winning the moto ahead of Martin who managed to move into fifth by the flag.

Ferrandis was all business as he went 1-1 on the day for the overall win, and with it he took over the points lead, Martin held on for second in moto 2 with teammate THOR/Yamaha rider Justin Cooper rounding out the podium. Next, at the WW Ranch event in Florida in late September, Ferrandis put in another stellar performance going 1-1 to extend his points lead. Cooper finished second overall with a 4-2, and Martin rounded out the podium with a 3-3 for third overall. The penultimate event at Thunder Valley was Cooper’s best ride of the season with a 2-1 performance for the overall victory. Ferrandis extended the points lead over Martin by going 1-3 for second overall with Martin coming in third overall with a 4-2. That left the title to be decided at the final race of the season at Pala, California in October. Ferrandis entered the final event of the year with an 18-point lead for the title. The points gap meant that Ferrandis could theoretically wrap up the championship in the first moto if he were able to outscore Martin by seven points. The first moto saw Cooper lead for the first half of the race before Jett Lawrence was able to make the pass for the lead. Behind them were title rivals Ferrandis and Martin. Not long

Ferrandis never stopped charging and tried for the last five laps to pass Lawrence for the lead, which would clinch the championship early, but ran out of time and had to settle for second. It came down to the final moto. By racing smart and cool, Ferrandis took a decent start in the final moto and settled in to cruise to the checkered flag with a fifth-place finish. here’s one thing that’s apparent about THOR since it first launched more than 50 years ago – the company doesn’t slow down. Among the constantly new and evolving products for 2021 are boots, armor, casual wear and accessories. The Guardian name is pretty self-explanatory – roost guards for any rider, made from rugged, molded plastic and lined with THOR’s Press-Fit comfort liner to keep riders as comfortable as they are protected. Built for speed, the Guardian MX has a built-in *CE level 1 back protector meant to reduce impact energy along the back of the torso in a crash, while the shoulder guards and waistbuckle closure are adjustable for each rider’s preferred fit. The standard Guardian offers larger armor over the shoulder, as well as bicep guards to cover the upper arm, which are adjustable and removable. Variety is the spice of life, so the saying goes, and the Guardian lineup comes in a range of colors to match most OEM brand colors. When it comes to cold mornings, or keeping the core temperature optimal during motos, check out the brandnew Warm-Up vest, available in orange, navy/white, and black/charcoal colorways to maintain the pro look. The Warm-Up uses the same In-Motion fabric that THOR applies to its Prime Pro and Pulse MX gear, along with zippered pockets and a moisture-wicking mesh liner. If there’s a chill in the air, cinch the waist or pull up the collar lined with soft material.
Enhancing rider feel on the machine is paramount and the *CE-certified Radial boot serves up a high-end combination of flexibility, comfort and protection. Sitting at the top of the THOR boot line, the Radial features a steel-shank outsole for rigidity and less fatigue while standing on the pegs. The sturdy Radial Axis Hinge System – where the boot gets its name – limits overextension of the ankle joint while riding or in the case of a tumble. Other premium features include synthetic leather calf overlays for a balance of grip while riding and durability, and a low-profile but armored toe box for good feel while shifting. Replaceable outsoles and buckles mean owners can replace the high-wear sections of the boot instead of having to buy a new pair.

Innovative Mountain Bike Tools
C
rankbrothers has been forging a path in the mountain bike industry for 20 years, and now the brand’s innovative products will be available through Parts Unlimited to make every ride better than the last. Back in 1997, friends Frank Hermansen and Carl Winefordner hatched an idea for a mountain bike product while they were making a tire change during a night ride. The groundbreaking Speedier Tire Lever made removing and installing tires easier and faster while also launching the Crankbrothers brand. That first lever showcases the unique style that comes from Hermansen’s design skills and Winefordner’s engineering prowess. Since then, Crankbrothers has
Now, Crankbrothers has the latest iteration in the M-tool line, the M20 tool. This update includes a solution for modern tubeless tire repair. It has an integrated tire plug tool plus a tire plug storage case. There are a total of 20 high-tensile steel tools on the M20, including specialty tools like a valve core removal tool and a rotor straightener. Of course, the chain tool, spoke wrench, hex wrenches, open wrench and screwdrivers are part of the compact little package, too. The M17, M19 and M20 are all now available through Parts Unlimited. Crankbrothers also had tubeless tires in mind with the new Cigar Tool. This compact repair kit includes a plug fork, tire plugs and a CO2 head. A CO2 cartridge can be

expanded to become a key player in the mountain bike scene with a variety of innovative tools, pumps, wheels, dropper posts, clip-in pedals, and flat pedals. As mountain biking has evolved, so have Crankbrothers products. New solutions have come along to service tubeless tires, and older design ideas get refined and updated to constantly offer riders convenience and quality. A perfect example is the evolution of M-tools. This series of multi-tools began with the Micra-5 in 2000. It was a revolutionary design among multi-tools because the tool bits were half the normal length and the side rails were round aluminum. This not only made the Micra-5 more compact, but it also saved a lot of weight, making it easier than ever to carry tools on the trail. A year later, Crankbrothers debuted the M17, which was distinctive because of the included chain breaker. Before that, multi-tool chain breakers were two pieces, requiring the multi-tool to split into two parts before use. Now, everything was in one piece. The M17 also included a T-25 Torx tool bit to make roadside repairs to disc brakes.
inserted into the aluminum housing, where it stays safe on even the wildest rides, and the threaded cap allows for easy refills after a repair. The Cigar Tool mounts to the bicycle frame, so that when the inevitable puncture happens, a trailside repair is quick and easy. ■

New Chain Break and Rivet Tool
T
he UCT2100(50) tool from RK Chain quickly and easily breaks 40 series and 50 series chains, and can press-fit tight-tolerance 50 series sealed chain sideplates to the correct depth for clip or rivet installation. One of the newest improvements for the UCT2100(50) chain tool is the redesigned Flare Pin FP500JP. The new flare pin features grooves that prevent the user from over-flaring the rivet pins. The new sealed posts allow the components to lock into the tool body and larger pressure bolt for easier use without dropped components. However, just in case mechanics do lose a tool piece into the endless void under a toolbox or elsewhere in the shop, replacement components are readily available. The redesigned plate holder PH500JP for 50 series chains features a reversible post that allows the user to switch between the clip type or rivet type plate holder. When working on 40 series chains, RK says that customers and techs will need to use tool pieces FP428JP and PH428 to press-fit and rivet. The PH428 and FP428JP are available separately.
RK Chain’s UCT2100(50) tool quickly and easily breaks 40 series and 50 series chains, and can press-fit tighttolerance 50 series sealed sideplates to the correct depth for clip or rivet installation.
There is a lifetime warranty on the material and craftsmanship for the tool body. The UCT2100(50) chain tool comes in a molded plastic storage case and makes a great gift for any motorcyclist. Visit the RK Chain website or scan the QR code to review the minimum and maximum rivet diameter dimensions for each RK Chain model. After riveting, mechanics should measure the rivet flare to ensure the proper flare dimension has been achieved. https://rkexcelamerica. com/products/chain-tool. RK Chains recommends that all chains be installed by a trained mechanic. Misuse and/or improper installation could damage the chain and void the chain warranty. Tools of the Trade
Specialty Equipment for Easier Maintenance
M
otion Pro is committed to a constant pursuit of innovative equipment to make tricky jobs easier. So whether it’s the techs in your service department or your diehard DIY customers, they’re going to be excited by this new U-Joint Separator, U-Joint Press, Pro Plug Socket, Pro Seal Puller, and BPF Rod Guide Wrench, all from the brand in blue.
U-Joint Separator and U-Joint Press Tools U-joint service is common in the automotive world, and it has become routine work in ATV and UTV shops as well. Except the tools most mechanics rely on are sized for larger auto applications. Using those cumbersome, awkward auto tools is a thing of the past, because Motion Pro’s new U-Joint Separator and U-Joint Press were specifically designed for smaller ATV/UTV work. Not only that, they’re carefully crafted with features that enable them to be used without a second set of hands, a hydraulic press or a bench vice. Thanks to its compact size, the new U-Joint Separator will press out bearing cups with the driveshaft still in the vehicle. This original Motion Pro design has adjustable arms to fit most ATVs and UTVs and is made from hardened steel for long-term durability.
Pro Plug Sockets Spark plugs are crucial engine components, and sometimes they can be a real pain to get to. Motion Pro has taken classic toolbox essentials – the 14mm (9/16 inch), 16mm (5/8 inch), 18mm (11/16 inch), and 21mm (13/16 inch) spark-plug sockets – and updated them for the 21st century. The Pro Plug Sockets are easier to use thanks to their extremely thin-wall design that helps them slip into deep-well engine heads with less maneuvering – and less cursing. Since swinging a ratchet through its arc can be tricky in tight spaces, the Pro Plug Sockets offer three drive options. Users can slip the socket onto a 3/8-inch ratchet, use a rod via the through hole, or slip a 17mm wrench over the hexagonal end of the socket. Furthermore, the Pro Plug Sockets abandon the old rubbergrommet retention strategy in favor of a mechanical retention system that won’t wear or harden with age and is unaffected by oil, so it won’t fail to grip the plug. The Pro Plug Sockets are designed to slip into tight spaces.
If the driveshaft is already out of the vehicle, or when it’s time to reassemble the joint, the U-Joint Press makes the job easy, even if the work is being done out in the field. Remember the days of searching for appropriately sized sockets to drive out/in bearing cups? Those days are behind us thanks to the included 16mm and 20mm drive tips and 16mm, 22mm and 27mm adapters, all of which are sized specifically for ATV/UTV applications and laser etched for easy identification. The U-Joint Press is made easier to use by the clever O-ring retention system, which keeps the drivers and adapters securely in position while setting up the tool. And, while the threaded driver applies plenty of force, the floating press plate can be struck with a hammer to help coax stubborn corroded parts out of place.

Not everyone has the nerve to tackle cartridge-fork rebuilds, and those who do know the importance of having the right tools. And while your customers can get an expensive factory Honda, Kawasaki, or Suzuki tool to remove the rod-guide case and access the fork spring, Motion Pro has another option. Its BPF (Big Piston Fork) Rod Guide Wrench is a fraction of the price of the factory tool, and works on both 41mm and 43mm forks, which are the sizes used on Showa’s BPF road forks. Can your customers remove their oil seals with a screwdriver? Sure, but they may end up gouging the seal bore or busting their knuckles when the tool slips. A better option is Motion Pro’s new Pro Seal Puller. This handy little pry bar includes an assortment of widefootprint tips to accommodate a range of seal sizes. The three interchangeable tips offer both a secure grip on seals and a large surface area to pivot on. The billet-aluminum construction reduces the risk of gouging engine cases compared to using a steel tool, and the knurled grip means less likelihood of slipping up and tearing up a knuckle.

A Storage Solution for Specialty Oils neatly store three 20-liter canisters of oil, plus another 18 of the oneliter oil jugs. The top cabinet shelf is perfectly sized so that the 20-liter canisters are fully supported while the taps extend far enough for easy oil retrieval. That means the canisters can stay put in the cabinet, so there is no need for heavy lifting. To help keep shops cleaner, LIQUI MOLY also integrated a drip pan into the bottom of the cabinet to prevent any oil spots on the floor. Interior door pockets provide the perfect spot for stashing oil guides or other useful paperwork.

LIQUI MOLY recommends stocking its Motorbike Synth 4T 5W-40 Street Race oil in the 20-liter canister. It is a popular oil in that size, and it is the same product used by all teams in Moto2 and Moto3. While it might have the word race in its name, the Synth 4T 5W-40 is also ideal for high-performance street riders who need oil that can provide the performance and engine protection necessary for aggressive riding. The additives in this fullysynthetic oil provide optimum lubrication, outstanding engine cleanliness and reduced friction, which all add up to deliver more horsepower.
he good thing about modern motor oils is that there are a lot of them, meaning bikes can be paired with just the right formula based on age, performance level, budget and a host of other possibilities. The bad thing about modern motor oils is, well, that there are a lot of them, meaning dealers have to find a place to stash it all.
Dealers with a large service volume will probably prefer to stock the more commonly used LIQUI MOLY Motorbike 4T 10W-40 Street oil in the barrel size, but the 20-liter size is a great choice for smaller shops. This is a popular motorcycle motor oil from LIQUI MOLY, and its high-performance formula ensures outstanding engine performance and protection under all operating conditions.
LIQUI MOLY comes to the rescue with its motorbike oil cabinet, designed especially for dealers who want to keep a variety of oils on hand without worrying about where to put them. The cabinet is a solid metal locker that can

Charging Ahead
Keeping Vehicles Ready to Ride
S
ometimes there is a perfect day that comes along in the wintertime, long after powersports vehicles have been put away until the next riding season. Maybe it’s not really a perfect day, but it’s less cold and gray than most winter days, at least, and it’s a great excuse to get out and ride. Despite sitting idle for weeks or even months, a vehicle has to be ready to go at a moment’s notice. No one wants to sit around and wait on a dead battery to charge while the sun is shining.
battery that simply needs charging, and a sulfated battery that needs saving. The multi-stage de-sulfation process restores batteries from as low as 0.5 Volts. Of course, riders can avoid that situation altogether by simply keeping the OptiMate 6 connected to the battery when it is sitting idle for long periods of time. New batteries also benefit from this charger, since the cellvoltage balancing mode correctly prepares them for first use and optimizes battery performance.
The Moose Racing-branded OptiMate 1 Duo battery charger and maintainer is perfect for keeping both 12-Volt leadacid and 12.8Volt lithium batteries charged up and ready to roll.
The OptiMate 3 battery charger is also deft at diagnosing a sulfated battery condition. Able to recover a battery from as low as two Volts, the OptiMate 3 won’t overcharge, and an automatic hourly test will provide advance warning of any problems.
Moose Racing’s battery chargers help keep batteries in good working order over the winter, so when that perfect day rolls around, a vehicle will be charged up and ready to ride. The OptiMate 1 Duo battery charger and maintainer will keep any 12-Volt leadacid or 12.8-Volt lithium battery powered up. Featuring a low-voltage start of just 4 Volts, this compact charger tests the battery, so that it delivers only what is needed in order to prevent overcharging. The OptiMate 1 Duo charger has a fourstep program and delivers a constant 600mA current. Moose Racing also has chargers that are great for keeping the 12-Volt lead-acid batteries in ATVs and UTVs ready to roll. The OptiMate 6 comes to the rescue of batteries that are depleted. This is because the OptiMate 6 can recognize the difference between a discharged

Moose Racing ethanol fuel treatment
Of course, keeping the battery in top shape is just one part of ensuring that a vehicle is always ready to ride, even after a long stint in storage. Moose Racing keeps fuel fresh with its ethanol fuel treatment. One bottle will treat 48 gallons of fuel, helping prevent ethanol complications, tackling any water in the fuel system and stabilizing the gas. It also prevents varnish build-up or any gummy deposits. While the fuel treatment is recommended for when a vehicle is going to be idle, it is also a great treatment to include every time the tank is filled to keep the fuel system running smooth and clean.

MOOSE RACING
When it comes time for a winter refresh, Moose Racing offers a wide range of sprockets and chains.
There are a lot of moving parts on a vehicle that take a beating over the course of a riding season. Winter is the perfect time to get them replaced so that everything is fresh and ready to go when it’s time to ride again. The chain and sprockets are, of course, always among the items that get worn out. Moose Racing has a host of chain options, offering solutions for every size of bike and style of riding. Even mini-bike racers are accommodated with chains like the 420 RXP and 428 RXP Pro-MX. The 520 RXP Pro-MX is a non-O-ring chain designed specifically for motocross racing, while riders who prefer an O-ring chain can opt for the 520 HPD O-ring. The Moose Racing 520 FB chain is the strongest, most durable sealed chain offered by the brand. The “FB” stands for “Fine Blanking,” a precise manufacturing process that yields perfectly-cut links. Combined with that and the extremely strong alloyed steel, the FB has the highest tensile strength rating available from Moose Racing, coming in at nearly 8,000 pounds. Moose Racing’s sprocket selection includes steel front and rear sprockets, 7075 T651 aluminum rear sprockets in various color options, and dual sprockets. These dual sprockets are designed to outlast standard aluminum rear sprockets while weighing a lot less than a standard steel rear sprocket. The inner ring is made from 7075 T6 aluminum, which is available in six different anodized colors, and the outer ring is steel.
Winter is also a good time for replacing bearings, so check out those Parts Unlimited catalogs for a complete rundown of options and fitments.
Other parts that are good for wintertime replacement include wheel bearings and linkage bearings. These small parts make a big difference in performance, and Moose Racing even offers a rear wheel bearing upgrade kit for ATVs, which provides a 30 percent increase in loadcarrying capacity and bearing life. ■

In both cases, the friction plates have a segmented design for improved oil flow and cooler clutch temperatures, smoother, more consistent performance and a longer life. A set of tempered-steel drive plates and heat-treated, heavy-duty springs complete the kits. For the Bagger models Barnett offers Extra-Plate kits. These heavy-duty clutches are drop-in replacements, and include eight Kevlar friction plates, seven tempered-steel drive plates and a set of heat-treated heavy-duty springs. There are plenty of choices throughout that Indian mix, too. Barnett has Carbon Fiber clutch kits and Kevlar clutch kits. There are extra-plate, heavy-duty kits and a smooth-shift, specially designed clutch-shaft arm for the late-model Baggers. There’s also a whole assortment of High Efficiency clutch cables with the option of an OEMappearance, or a custom casing. Many clutches can be improved by simply swapping to something better than an OE cable, and a Barnett High Efficiency cable is that something better. The High Efficiency cables all feature strong HE wire which is nylon coated, lubed with silicone and running inside a Teflon lining. The action is ultra-smooth, lever effort is reduced and there’s an extended service life. They’re a direct fit for a range of those Indian bikes. Depending on the application there are traditional Black Vinyl casings, classic Stainless Braid and Platinum Series casing styles and the fittings are all chrome plated where applicable. Just as important, everything is made in the USA. The Barnett clutch kits are equally special. Direct-fit upgrades, and depending on the application, the kits feature

Waterproof Boots Without the Bulk
O
ff the bike, some motorcycle boots can look awkward and uncomfortable. Icon knows that there are a lot of street riders who want all of the asphalt defenses of a motorcycle boot without sacrificing fashion. After all, motorcycle boots don’t have to look like motorcycle boots to be effective. With the Tarmac 2 boot, Icon has not only blended motorcycle boot qualities with a streetwear look, but they have made the whole package waterproof as well. The Tarmac 2 is part of Icon’s Fall 2020 collection, offering discerning street riders a host of benefits wrapped up in a lightweight, comfortable boot. The Tarmac 2 features high-top trainer styling in black and tan color options, so at a glance, they don’t even look like motorcycle boots. An athletic footbed provides comfort and walkability. Outside, a TecTuff leather upper is styled with an unobtrusive footpeg interface arch and a low-profile Icon outsole. TecTuff is a finishing process that improves durability and provides maximum abrasion resistance. Inside, D3O ankle inserts and a sturdy shank increase stability. Thanks to the ultra-slim profile of D3O armor, the ankle insert doesn’t add bulk to the boot. Feet stay dry and comfortable even when the weather gets ugly thanks to the eVent waterproof and breathable membrane in the Tarmac 2. Air gets in but water stays out, and the Tarmac 2 boots actually have Icon Waterproofing Level 3, which is the company’s top wet-weather protection level. Since a waterproof motorcycle boot deserves waterproof motorcycle gear, the Tarmac 2 pairs perfectly with Icon’s new Stormhawk gear. The jacket and pants also feature Icon Waterproofing Level 3.
Icon’s Tarmac 2 boot offers a host of features that make it protective, lightweight, comfortable and waterproof. The boot is designed for hard riding, but also looks great off the bike.
Like the Tarmac 2 boots, the Stormhawk gear comes in both black and tan. Designed to battle the asphalt as well as the weather, both the jacket and pants feature D3O CE-Certified LP1 armor. The jacket has D3O LP1 in the shoulders and elbows plus a D3O Viper back piece, while the pants feature D3O LP1 in the hips and knees. The Stormhawk gear is made from a durable four-way stretch textile material that is backed with a waterproof/ breathable Hycor membrane. That breathable membrane helps with temperature regulation so things don’t get too steamy inside. Poly fabric reinforcement provides additional abrasion resistance. A full-length, removable insulated liner and zippered vents help riders fine-tune airflow in the jacket. The pants feature full-length inseam zippers so they can slide on over regular pants. ■

TIRES
Inspiring Trust
Sportbike Tires for all Conditions
Michelin’s decades of experience in the top level of racing leads to technology that is built into its range of street-legal tires.
I
t doesn’t matter what a motorcycle’s performance capabilities are if the rider can’t trust the tires. Whether it’s going into the corners on the track without worrying about grip or knowing that a tire can go the distance on the street, trust in the tires is key to maximizing a bike’s potential and to simply enjoying the ride. Michelin introduced the Power Experience sportbike tires to give both street and track riders absolute trust in their tires. This culmination of Michelin’s achievements in tire technology include the Michelin Power 5 highperformance street tire and Michelin Power GP, a 50/50 street and track day tire designed to deliver results in every situation. Michelin Power Experience tires are designed for ultimate plug-and-play use. The tires in the line offer quick warmup and share the same architecture, dual-compound construction and tread patterns. The result is effortless setup when converting a sportbike from street riding to track riding. The Michelin Power 5 can be used on the street, and swapping to the Power GP for a track day won’t require any major changes to the bike’s setup. Just change the tires and get the lap timer ready. As part of the Michelin Power Experience line, both the Power 5 and Power GP feature Michelin 2CT Technology on the front tires and Michelin 2CT+ Technology on the

rear sizes. This optimized dual-compound mix and void ratio ensures outstanding grip in both wet and dry conditions, as well as a blend of straight-line longevity and corner-carving capabilities. The 2CT Technology features a more durable rubber in the middle of the tire and softer rubber on the shoulders for a blend of wear resistance and grip that best suits the front tire profile. Michelin 2CT+ Technology takes it up a notch to ensure the rear tires can deftly transfer power to the road while providing both stability and longevity. Harder rubber in the center of the tread, as well as underneath the softer-compound shoulders, results in better rigidity at lean, which translates to more stability when cornering, especially under strong acceleration. Meanwhile, the new center compounds offer an increased level of straight-line longevity. Aesthetics aren’t forgotten, either – both tires feature Michelin’s Premium Touch Technology. This unique, micro-textured look of the sidewall rubber is achieved via a patented laser-etching process applied to the mold. Combined with the tread design, it gives the tires a unique, modern style. The Michelin Power 5 tire launched in 2020, replacing the Michelin Power RS as the brand’s flagship on-road sportbike tire. trust and fun in both wet and dry conditions. In fact, in testing, the Power 5 was consistently outstanding in cornering grip, stability and lap times even on a wet track. And, when it comes to riding a sportbike equipped with the Michelin Power 5 tires on the street, more agility equals more fun. For riders who want to really explore the performance potential of their sportbike, the Michelin Power GP tires are just as capable at delivering results on the race track as they are at delivering the rider to the track. Michelin designed the Power GP tires to offer extraordinary wet and dry grip, characteristics that are a benefit in any sportbike riding scenario. By using low void ratios with maximum slick zones, the Power GP design offers an enhanced level of dry grip to maximize the track experience. Michelin is launching an online Power 5 and Power GP training module to help dealers learn about all of the technology packed into each tire, and how the Michelin Power Experience line provides seamless plug-and-play tire changes to easily go from street to track. The training can be accessed through Michelin’s Dealer Site at https://dealer.motorcycle.michelinman.com. Other street tire options for sportbikes include the dual-compound Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and the ever-popular single-compound Michelin Pilot Power. The Michelin Pilot Power 2CT is an affordable dual-compound tire that features Michelin 2CT Technology in the front and rear to provide great wet and dry grip, all while offering versatility and durability. The Michelin Pilot Power has been one of the brand’s top sellers for 15 years. This single-compound tire offers performance and technology at an attractive price point. ■

Smooth-Rolling Performance Introducing the Radial Pro
T
he tire lineup from AMS has ATV and UTV tires that are laser-focused on specific applications like deep mud or dunes, as well as tires like the Radial Pro, which spans multiple surfaces and applications to create a high-performance do-it-all tire. The Radial Pro’s appeal starts with a carefully crafted tread design that’s as functional as it is attractive. The stepped, solid V-shaped lugs of the Radial Pro are spaced wide enough to bite down hard while riding on looser terrain, with sufficient sidewall wrap to provide grip in deep ruts. At the same time, the tall, 3/4-inch lugs are staggered along the tire’s centerline, which provides an even rolling surface for straight-line riding. The result is smooth, vibration-free travel, even at higher speeds.
Grip and rolling characteristics are one thing, but for a tire to earn a reputation like the Radial Pro has, it has to last. To that end, AMS built the Radial Pro with an incredibly tough eight-ply carcass that features extra layers of reinforcing material sandwiched within the rubber of the tire. Punctures and tears from sharp rocks or other trail dangers are reduced thanks to this over-engineered design, making the Radial Pro a great choice for those seeking long-term durability and peace of mind. Another feature that offers riders reassurance is the Radial Pro’s integrated rim guard. Since alloy wheels are especially
The Radial Pro from AMS is a high-performance do-it-all tire designed for use in a variety of terrain. It offers great grip and rolling characteristics, and is also built to last.
The hybrid tread design of the Radial Pro makes this tire appropriate for vehicles traversing rough and challenging terrain, as well as those ripping along smoother roads as they link together trails or get tasks done on the farm or jobsite. Furthering the tire’s performance and contributing to its name is a fully radial carcass construction that ensures consistent rolling performance at all speeds and optimized flex characteristics on different terrains. These two factors helped contribute to the Radial Pro being DOT (Department of Transportation) rated that makes them eligible for on-road use in states or counties that allow highway travel.

susceptible to scratches, gouges, and other damage, the AMS Radial Pro has molded-in rim guards that utilize the tire’s thick sidewall to shield the rim from harm. The fact that the Radial Pro is offered in a huge range of sizes from 25 inches up to 30 inches means it’s likely available to fit any ATV or UTV your customers come in with. ■

DRIVE CHAINS

A High-Horsepower Chain Goes Stealth with larger capacity and higher horsepower engines. The excellent strength-to-weight ratio makes the ZVM-X chain suitable for those larger bikes in any category, including sportbikes, Adventure Touring bikes and cruisers. The ZVM-X chains have increased rigidity, which helps prevent distortion. D.I.D’s patented X-Ring seal increases lubricant retention, helping to extend the life of the chain. The twisting action of the X-Ring increases its sealing performance, and the four small contact points against the inner and outer plates minimize power loss. Less surface area equals less drag.
D.I.D’s new ZVM-X Black Raven Edition chain not only provides your customer with a stylish chain for a stealth look, it’s also a great choice for higher horsepower engines.
These attributes combine to create a chain that provides up to 40 percent greater wear resistance than a standard O-Ring chain. Better wear resistance results in a longer chain life and more time spent on the road instead of in the garage.

our customers are going more places, more often, in their ATVs and UTVs. With the proper lighting installed, they can also go farther, and with more visibility – both for seeing, and being seen. The Trail 6 Lights collection from J.W. Speaker includes front and rear lighting with high-performance LEDs and smart digital controls.
Trail 6 Pro J.W. Speaker is well known for its adaptive motorcycle headlights. Smart lighting is for off-roaders too. The Trail 6 Pro lights give off-road pilots increased control through Bluetooth-enabled J-Link, which is operated via a mobile app and smartphone. Drivers can switch between low or high brightness, they can modify the light pattern to match trail conditions or speed changes and can control LED color and intensity.
Trail 6 Flash The Trail 6 Flash is all about visibility for the rear of the vehicle. With a customizable deceleration-sensing LED flasher, the Trail 6 Flash is built for visibility in close environments. The light senses when the vehicle is slowing and flashes to alert drivers following behind. Upon installation, your customers program the speed sensitivity for their vehicle and driving style. A faster driver would choose low sensitivity for quickly deceleration. A slow-driving utility user would choose high sensitivity for vehicles that brake slowly. A Medium setting operates in the middle.
The Trail 6 Flash provides plenty of visibility at the rear of a UTV or ATV. The light senses when the vehicle is slowing and flashes to alert drivers following behind. The Trail 6 Pro can be controlled via Bluetooth and a smartphone, allowing drivers to change the brightness of the light, and modify its light pattern.
Trail 6 Sport In the same compact size as the Pro model, the J.W. Speaker Trail 6 Sport LED light pod is designed for trail applications where a driver wants light power control. With three different sets of interchangeable lenses – Spot, Medium Flood, and Wide Flood – your customers can select the beam pattern for their specific needs on the trail. And, they’ll get that illumination from bright, white LEDs.
Installation and Setup All three Trail 6 LED off-road lights include a universal bracket, mounting hardware, and quick disconnect harnesses. They can be installed as a hanging, pedestal, or panel mount using the mounting template included – whether installed at your shop or by your customer. The Trail 6 lights are also available with camera-mounting options, making them as fun as they are functional. The Trail 6 Pro, Sport, and Flash rear lights are intended for off-road use only and are not street-legal. Well-built and unique, the Trail 6 LEDs Lighting Series from J.W. Speaker will help your ATV and UTV customers stand out in a crowd, get more hours on their vehicles, and enhance their safety and visibility on the trail or the job. ■

Form and Function
A Performance Exhaust That Looks Great Wrapped around the cores is a sealed pillow of fiberglass. This dense, sealed pillow is what gives all Trinity exhaust systems that deep growl everyone knows and loves. For even more muffler protection, a layer of steel wool insulates the muffler body even further by being wrapped around the fiberglass. To top it all off, a set of billet aluminum tips brings up the rear, with a stainless turn-out tip. This stainless tip is completely adjustable to any direction, allowing the user complete control of where the exhaust is directed.
Trinity Racing’s Stage 5 exhaust system comes in multiple different variations, each designed for a specific vehicle, with performance and reliability always the top priority.
T
rinity Racing has been designing and manufacturing premium performance parts for ATVs and UTVs since the late ’70s. After years of development and testing – both on the dyno and down in Mexico for the Baja 1000 – Trinity has found the secret sauce when it comes to building an exhaust that performs, looks great and holds up to extreme abuse. The Trinity Stage 5 exhaust system comes in multiple different variations, with fitments for a range of vehicles. What makes this exhaust special is the design. Every system is designed for a specific vehicle, with performance and reliability always the top priority. No matter the vehicle, all headers are made from T304 stainless steel, mandrel bent for consistency, and hand TIG welded in the good ol’ USA. The mufflers are made from extruded aluminum, which is then robotically welded to ensure consistency, accuracy and longevity. Inside the mufflers are stainless steel perforated cores, which allow for maximum flow and just the right amount of back pressure.

brushed aluminum mufflers, a brushed stainless header pipe with black mufflers, and a full Cerakote® black header pipe and mufflers. The Trinity Racing Stage 5 exhaust is available as a slip-on or full system. The slip-on replaces the stock muffler and bolts up seamlessly to the stock header pipe. The full system replaces the entire set-up, from the exhaust manifold back to the mufflers. All systems are an easy bolt on that can be done in the garage with a few tools and some time. Be sure to pair any Trinity exhaust system with a Trinity Racing fuel tuner for best results. Replacing an exhaust without the installation of a tuner will cause the vehicle to run lean and possibly overheat. A fuel tuner will add performance, as well as keep the vehicle running properly and safely. ■

he all-new SM5 helmet is the result of more than five years of intensive study, development and testing. Designed and tested completely inhouse at Alpinestars Helmet Division, Alpinestars scrutinized every possible aspect to engineer a helmet that is protective, light and thoughtfully designed to deliver optimal protection and comfort. This lightweight helmet features a thermo-injected shell incorporating a special polymer blend enhanced by varying degrees of thickness that is engineered to deliver the optimal combination of impact protection and light weight. The innovative five density EPS liner ensures the correct density in the correct areas for enhanced impact absorption. Key safety design features include an engineered raised area with padding to effectively reduce the forces transmitted to the collarbone, an emergency release system and removable cheek pads to permit the easy removal of the cheek pads while the helmet is still on. There is also a patented visor release system that ensures the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact. This attention to detail even extends to the soft textile chin strap, which at 26mm is wider than certification requirements for optimal protection and rider comfort, with stainless steel D-rings to ensure a tight and secure fit. Rider comfort is also at the forefront of the SM5’s design, and the SM5 boasts a visor that has been specifically designed

ELECTRICAL PARTS
Starter Swap
High-Quality Replacement Parts
Rick’s Motorsport Electrics now offers replacement starter motors for Kawasaki’s ZX10 and Triumph’s Tiger 800 XC. Both are designed to be upgrades over the OE units.
M
ost motorcycle rides begin with the push of a button — the bike’s electric starter button. But when it’s lights out for a starter motor, the bike’s going to remain inside the garage until a replacement is installed. In many cases that can be a costly proposition. Case in point, Kawasaki’s ZX10 – its OEM replacement starter commands a hefty price tag. “We learned about that at the Louisville dealer show (hosted by Parts Unlimited) when three different Kawasaki dealers approached us, asking if we could produce a replacement starter motor for that model,” said Rick Shaw, owner of Rick’s Motorsport Electrics. Those same dealers confirmed that there was no aftermarket alternative, so it was the costly OEM starter or no-go for ZX10 owners. Rick saw an opportunity, so when the Rick’s Motorsport Electrics crew returned to New Hampshire, the ZX10 starter became a priority project. Soon enough, an allnew product that shares the same component quality (cranking speed, etc.) as the OEM starter — but at half the retail cost to the consumer— emerged. Parts Unlimited is now stocking that replacement starter. “Most of all,” Shaw notes, “it’s exactly like the OEM starter, but with an MSRP of $299.95.” That means replacing it becomes a routine session for shop technicians — no need to adapt parts or hardware for installation.
A similar situation found its way to Rick’s, this time concerning Triumph’s Tiger 800 XC – model years up to 2016. The culprit was heat build-up that eventually takes its toll on the bike’s starter motor. Turns out that the Triumph’s starter motor is positioned in a confined space where there’s minimal heat dissipation. Over time the high temperatures cook the starter motor, and if the OEM starters were on back order, customers had to wait — there were no aftermarket replacements. That is, until Rick’s stepped in. “Our solution,” says Rick, “was to use a Mitsuba-style starter that’s actually more powerful than the OE version, and it easily fits in place of the old starter, so replacement time is not effected.” RME’s starter fits various other Triumph Triples as well, and like the ZX10 starter, the Triumph replacement starter retails at a fraction of the cost of OE. These are two of many situations that led Rick’s to develop new electrical components for existing motorcycle models. “We encourage dealers to let us know what electrical problems confront their customers,” says Rick. Since there are no in-person shows, he says the best way for dealers to do that is to take a snapshot of a problem part and text it to 603-329-9901. “If we feel that there’s a demand for the product, we’ll do our best to find a solution,” he says. ■

Exhausts for the 2021 KX250F
K
awasaki’s 2021 KX250F is here, and as the only all-new bike in the class, it’s making quite a splash. To help improve the Kawi’s performance and appearance, Pro Circuit is already offering a full lineup of exhaust systems and slip-ons. From the race-grade Ti-6 Pro Titanium to the affordable and easy to install T-6 Stainless Steel Slip-On Silencer, Pro Circuit has something to suit every rider and every budget, and Parts Unlimited is stocking it all. If your customers are looking to equip their KX with Pro Circuit’s high-end exhaust, they need look no further than the Ti-6 Pro Titanium. This professional-grade exhaust is ready to take on the podium with all the features Pro Circuit could throw at it. For starters, it utilizes titanium tubing throughout, including the header, mid pipe, and canister. It’s topped off with a carbon-fiber end cap for the lightest possible design, and hangs from a machinedaluminum bracket for optimal strength. An asymmetric muffler offers increased packing volume to help the Ti-6 Pro Titanium meet AMA and FIM sound regulations, so this pipe is eligible for all major professional race series. And, to ensure it survives the rigors of racing, the Ti-6 Pro is constructed using precision TIG welding and uses a machined mid-pipe joint for a leakfree fit. Another option for riders is the Ti-6 system, which provides the same full-titanium construction, carbon-fiber end cap, and machined joint, but with a muffler design that meets amateur-racing sound requirements. The Ti-6 also features a removable USFS-approved spark arrestor, so the system can pull double-duty for both closed-course racing and off-road riding. Offering the same flow characteristics and tuning as the Ti-6, but with greater durability and lower cost, Pro Circuit’s stainless-steel T-6 system will likely be a popular option for your customers. Ideal for both closed-course racing and off-road riding, the T-6 stainless-steel pipe and asymmetric aluminum canister have a professional look to go with the increased performance. A real performer at a great price, the T-6 will grab a lot of attention. Featuring the same eye-catching style as the rest of the T-6 lineup, Pro Circuit’s Stainless Steel Slip-Ons are an inexpensive and easy-to-install option for riders on a budget. These slip-ons replace the muffler and mid pipe to offer an appreciable boost in performance and a big improvement in sound. The slip-ons also feature a removable USFS-approved spark arrestor for off-road use. ■

SNOW PLOWS
Snow Day
Plows for ATVs and UTVs
Moose Utility Division’s RM5 rapid-mount plow system
S
now days might be fun for kids, but for us grownups they can be a lot of work. Moose Utility Division makes a variety of plows for ATVs and UTVs so that clearing the way after a snowstorm is easy and efficient. Moose Utility Division has several plow mounting systems as well as blades, so customers can get the right combination for their vehicle and needs. The latest addition to the snow options is the poly plow blade. A poly face is paired with a steel rib structure. The poly construction means this blade is lighter and easier to mount, while the steel ribs provide added strength for getting through the snow. In addition to weight savings, the poly blade also means there is no need to worry about rust. The poly blade is compatible with all of Moose Utility Division’s push tube mounting systems, like the RM5. It comes in both 60-inch and 72-inch sizes and includes a plow flap. Other plow options available from Moose Utility Division include the V-plow as well as the county and straight blade styles. The push tube V-plow was just introduced last year, and it is designed for larger vehicles, particularly ATVs and UTVs of 700cc and up. The versatile V-blade is available in a 72-inch or 82-inch size. The blade heights taper up from the center of the blade, which increases plow capacity. A manual-adjust system and many possible plowing positions let the customer get the right setup for the job. An optional hydraulic turn kit makes adjustments effortless. The RM5 rapid-mount plow system for ATVs and UTVs features a pull-pin system for quick installation and removal of the plow. The triangulated push tube, shaped
V-plow
for maximum strength and stability, is made from heavyduty two-inch square steel tubing. The front-mount design has 30 inches of lift, and it is compatible with all of Moose Utility Division’s blades. The RM5 is available with a V-plow frame, offering customers the same plowing style and efficiency of the Moose Utility Division push tube V-plow, but with the added ease of the front-mount system. It is faster and easier to both mount and remove the plow while still utilizing the same 72-inch and 82-inch left and right blades of the push tube V-plow. Moose Utility Division proudly makes its plows in the USA. To help dealers choose the right parts combination for a vehicle’s plow setup, Parts reps have a chart that simply outlines the ordering process. ■

Piston Power
Upgrading SxS and UTV Engines
S
ome manufacturers try to do it all, but the philosophy at Wössner is that it’s better to do one thing extremely well. That one thing is highperformance pistons, with a variety of off-road powersports applications available. Wössner is best known for its motorcycle pistons, but the company offers the same quality and performance for SxS and UTV applications.
Wössner uses exceptionally high-quality forged aluminum to produce each piston. They are T6 heat treated for heat resistance and durability even under high-load use, making them especially ideal for vehicles that put in a lot of work. Each piston also receives a permanent skirt coating that reduces friction and piston rock, which offers both improved performance and a quieter engine.
All of the Wössner SxS and UTV pistons that are available from Parts Unlimited are packaged as a complete kit, including the correct number of pistons for the particular engine plus piston pins, high-quality ring sets and locking clips.
There are a wide range of SxS and UTV piston kits available. Wössner offers both standard and high compression pistons as well as special turbo pistons for popular models like the Yamaha YXZ1000 and Honda Talon 1000. There are also big-bore versions for models like the Polaris RZR1000. Like all Wössner pistons, these SxS and UTV applications are engineered and manufactured at Wössner’s world headquarters in Germany. FEA computer simulation is used to fine-tune every design to ensure premium fit and performance. ■

Strong, Reliable OEM Replacement Sprockets
W
hen a customer comes in looking for an OEM replacement rear sprocket, chances are good that there’s already a Sunstar steel sprocket on the bike. Sunstar has been partnering with motorcycle manufacturers for nearly 60 years to produce OEM rear sprockets. That means that when it is time for a new one, a Sunstar steel OEM replacement is likely to be an identical swap. Sunstar designs its steel sprockets to be strong, durable and reliable. The company achieves this by starting with extremely high-quality 1045 carbon steel, which is given Sunstar’s exclusive heat treatment for added strength and wear resistance. Many of the rear sprockets also feature zinc plating that is applied via a baked-on durable paint process. That extra layer increases the sprocket’s ability to resist corrosion so that it lasts even longer. This feature is especially valuable in sprockets designed for off-road applications which have to be able to withstand not just water but plenty of dirt and mud, too.
When it’s time to upgrade or replace an OEM sprocket, Sunstar has a range of options. Its high-quality steel sprockets are designed as direct-factory replacements that are built to perform.
Sunstar has an extensive list of applications for its steel OEM rear sprockets for both street and off-road bikes, another one of the benefits of Sunstar’s OEM relationships. Getting the power from the motor to the rear wheel is Sunstar’s business, which means that the company also produces high-performance sprockets, countershaft sprockets, chains and complete chain kits for street and off-road riding. In addition to working with OEMs, Sunstar is also heavily involved in motorsports, giving the company a firm foothold in both worlds. ■

nduro competition can be brutal on both the machine and the rider. This means every component has to be just as tough as the motorcycle itself, yet still lightweight and performanceoriented to provide a competitive edge.
Regina’s 520 ZSE chain is built to withstand the rigors of Enduro and off-road racing, and provides plenty of performance and durability.
Regina Chain has developed the 520 ZSE chain to satisfy the most demanding Enduro and off-road riders, not to mention the toughest terrain. Easy to spot with its gold nickel-plated external plates, the ZSE chain went through an intense development process. That’s really no surprise, since Regina Chain considers R&D to be the key to its success. When it came to the ZSE, Regina teamed up with top Enduro racing teams to develop a chain that delivered efficient power transmission from the engine to the rear wheel while still limiting friction and preserving durability. The ZSE is a Z-ring chain has a surprisingly narrow width. which means the ZSE can be used on some bikes where a normal O-ring chain would not fit.
Regina’s ultra-slim Z-ring flexes when it is assembled, creating a spring effect that ensures the seal does not decrease over time. This design enhances chain flexibility, and a conical section on the inner side improves the assembling on the bushing. Additionally, lubricant is securely trapped between the plates and lobes of the Z-ring to provide continuous lubrication and extended life. ZSE chains are already OEM on many Enduro models, which means customers with those bikes can keep all of the quality and characteristics they are accustomed to when they come in for a chain swap. ■

Adjustable Parts for Dual-Sports
D
ual-sport bikes are well suited for novice or first-time riders. They’re lightweight and easy to maneuver under most riding conditions (on and off-road), so inexperienced riders gain confidence quickly. However, due to tall seat height, dual-sport bikes also can be intimidating to novice riders. What to do? The answer is to lower the bike, an easy task using PSRUSA’s rear suspension linkage kits that lower the ride height a ½ inch to 1½ inches. That amount can make all the difference. The actual lowering procedure is straightforward by replacing the bike’s OE rear linkage with PSR-USA’s replacement kit. The kits are made of lightweight forged 6061 aluminum that’s finished in gunmetal gray. And, being a bolt-on modification, the bike’s original ride height can be retrieved if or when the rider grows taller, or gains experience. And to compliment the bike’s new lowered stance, PSR-USA’s adjustable Dual Sport Kick Stand assures that the bike sits securely when parked because it won’t be leaning precariously in either direction (left or right).
Adjustable Dual Sport Kick Stand
Rear suspension lowering linkage
PSR-USA’s kick stand adjusts telescopically using a heavyduty spring encased in aluminum to allow adjustment up to 2 inches to match the amount of drop from the reconfigured rear suspension linkage. Both kits come with the necessary hardware to complete installation. All linkage and kick stand kits are model and year specific for proper fit. ■

Race-Winning Brakes Pads
T
he 2020 racing season is coming to a close, and from off-road competition to road racing, DP Brakes was there for the whole ride, supporting the sport and a whole host of winning riders and teams.
It was DP’s RDP Titanium Road Race Pads that helped put Jordan Szoke 1st in the Canadian Superbike Championship, Rocco Landers 1st in the Twins Cup and Ryan Boddy 1st in the Edmonton Motorcycle RoadRacing Association’s Pro Superbike wars. And that’s just the start of a long list of winning road racers, pro and amateur, who chose DP brakes. The 2020 off-road story is the same. Once again it was DP pads – the Pro-MX and DP Standards here – in the calipers of the winning machines. GNCC’s XC1 Pro ATV winner Walker Fowler used DP. So did Landon Wolfe in 4x4 Pro ATV and Hannah Hunter in Women Pro. And GNCC bike winners Becca Sheets and Grant Davis had DP support for their title chases, as did Kyle Peters in Kicker Arenacross. The winner’s brake choice for 2020 was DP, the RDP Titanium Road Race Pads, the Pro-MX pads and the DP Standards. And they’re all available to everyone. That
Whether the racing action is on-road or off-road, savvy riders know that DP Brakes’ range of brake pads provide strong grip, great stopping power and long-lasting performance.
super-strong grip and sure-stopping power that racers count on, the non-fade, long-lasting, clean and quiet DP performance is always in stock at Parts Unlimited and is competitively priced. ■

rom the first touch of the lever to the moment a bike stops, Braking gives street riders everything necessary for consistent stopping.
Braking street rotors include the high-performance EPTA (Enhanced Performance Torque Application) rotors, which are used by the Yamaha team in MotoAmerica Superbike. They provide optimal heat dissipation and a consistent temperature across the surface for predictable, consistent braking.
From its EPTA brake rotors to its CM55 brake pads, Braking has your sportbike riding customers covered.
Braking’s popular SK2 rotors feature heat-treated steel discs floating in an aluminum carrier. The W-Fix front and rear steel rotors are fixed discs. Both have a non-round design and strategic cutouts for performance even under extreme conditions. Braking has street bike pads for every riding style. P1R Racing pads
for street and super-motard racing are a SBK-class pad with great bite and consistency. CM66 Racing pads have the strongest bite among Braking options thanks to a unique semi-metallic racing compound. In the Challenge category for street and Supermoto, the combination of CM55 front and CM56 rear pads are a big seller. The sintered metal compound offers a powerful initial bite and an extended pad life. Braking’s SM1 Urban pads are an OEM-replacement pad with a semi-metallic compound. These street pads provide smooth, powerful, quiet and non-grabbing braking performance. The Braking RS-B1 front brake and RS-C1 clutch master cylinders give street riders a high-quality, adjustable setup, providing an easy upgrade from the OEM controls. Available in anodized silver or black, the folding-type 7075-T6 aluminum levers resist breaking. The levers are also adjustable, offering six positions of distance from the handlebar. ■

nowmobile pistons live onerous lives. They endure long winter nights in the garage, then come morning those ice-cold pistons are expected to spring to life for a blistering day on the trail or at the races. LED LIGHTING
Turn the Night Bright Made in America LED Lighting
Heretic Studio’s 6 Series 50-inch light bar blasts out nearly 36,500 lumens directly in front of a vehicle, and it weighs in at only 6½ pounds.
F
or as long as engines have been rocketing riders across the dirt and sand, lighting has been a necessity. The development of LED lighting has taken off along with the popularity of highperformance side-by-sides and off-road vehicles. LED lights use less energy than more traditional lighting systems, are stronger and last longer, can be built smaller, and are quicker to react. The advantages went hand-inhand with the higher rates of speed, and need for rugged, high-output lighting. Heretic Studio was born out of a desire to not only create a high-end LED light for the UTV and side-by-side segment, but also a light that would make a statement. Best of all the products are all made in the USA, in-house at the company’s headquarters in Utah. For an example of how serious Heretic is about lights, look no further than the 6 Series 50-inch light bar. It uses a conga line of 50, 6-watt CREE LEDs to throw up to 36,500 lumens in front of the vehicle. In fact, according to the company’s website, there is a government mandate that no more than three of these light bars can be used at the same place at the same time. Even with tremendous power on tap, the unit weighs in at just 6½ pounds. A suite of dozens of universal light options trickles down from there, in addition to modelspecific replacement headlights and taillights for Can-Am, Polaris, and Yamaha UTVs. Heretic’s ethos runs from the tiny electronic components that power the systems from the inside to the high-quality housings, all designed to maximize the output and lifetime of the lights. Aircraft-grade, billet aluminum is CNC-milled to create the light housings, which double as armor and heat sinks to keep the diodes safe and protected as well as running cool to maintain performance. Rubber O-rings seal out dust and moisture, while stainless steel mounting hardware keeps a pro look and avoids corrosion over time.

In addition to those ultra-bright light bars, Heretic also makes a range of universal light options that are built tough, ready to withstand the rigors of off-road riding.
Lights that work well rely on good components and science. Lights that look good take a more artistic eye. Heretic’s lights are designed to fit each vehicle specifically, with tight tolerances and high attention to detail in the fit and finish. From tiny UTV accessory lights to 4-foot bars blasting out more than 35,000 lumens, Heretic likely has a product to keep the night young. ■
