page 23, we feature some additional stats on the market, followed by a special section of ads and editorials of some of the leading manufacturers found in the 2021 Parts Unlimited catalog. There are some interesting things also happening on the two-wheel side of the market. Starting on page 16 in this issue we have a feature story on a new industrybuilding program by the Motorcycle Industry Council called “Ride With Us.” Also, be sure to check out the new Build. Train. Race series being added to the MotoAmerica event schedule. Working closely with the Royal Enfield company, the series will be the first all-women initiative teaching a selected group of ladies how to build and, for their first time, race their own motorcycles. Speaking of racing, our THOR motocross riders are having a great season. Star Yamaha 450 rider Dylan Ferrandis has four wins in the seven races to date, with a 47 point lead. His teammate Aaron Plessinger has provided Dylan good backup with some strong podium finishes. In the 250cc class, Justin Cooper leads the way with teammate Jeremy Martin scoring some wins as well. We are hoping for more success by them all as the series heads into the second half of the season.
B
y the summer of 2020, many Americans were feeling the need to get out of the house, but they didn’t want to ignore the threat of catching the Coronavirus by being in public places. Four-wheel off-roading has been popular for many years anyway, but once the flood gates opened with the public heading for the open spaces, the powersports industry saw ATV and UTV sales increase by leaps and bounds. In 2020, more than 275,000 ATVs were sold, as well as 600,000-plus UTVs. As we all know, people love to personalize their vehicles and the purchase of a new one is in most cases the beginning of a project to outfit them with their favorite accessories. In this issue, we spotlight that four-wheel sport ATV/UTV segment of the market. Starting on
Lastly, just as this issue was heading to the printer we got the news that company founder Fred Fox has named Paul Langley as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of LeMans Corporation. Fred, now 85 years old, is adding emeritus to his title and will be slowing his pace down just a bit. I have known Paul Langley for a long time, having him as an advertiser in our magazines for many years when he was with Dynojet, Vance and Hines, and in recent years, S&S Cycle. We look forward to working with him and wish the very best for him in his new role at the helm of LeMans Corporation. ■

A
merican motocross fans have never been more thrilled to be back at the races. The 2021 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is at a fever pitch with the series starting to produce its standout athletes. After seven of 12 rounds, those breakout stars are members of the Parts Unlimited/THOR-backed Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing Team in both the 450 and 250 divisions. Coming off a stellar year in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, the Star Yamaha Team made its presence known with race wins and championships in both 250SX East and West regions. As the team’s first season in the 450cc division, now stewarding the full Factory Yamaha effort, it was considered a learning year. But it is the rest of the paddock who are now learning that the THOR/Star Yamaha Team has figured out how to win races in the premiere ranks. Dylan Ferrandis is putting his stamp on the 450MX championship in his rookie season, having amassed four wins after seven rounds, and managing consistency on every other weekend, enough to break away in the championship chase. Ferrandis scored his maiden 450 Pro Motocross win at the opening round at Fox Raceway in California, which came as a surprise, even to him. “I didn’t wake up this morning thinking that I would win the overall,” Ferrandis said. “It’s an

amazing result as a rookie in the 450 class to win the first moto and the overall. I’m also really happy to get that first 450 win for the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team. This one is really for them. The hard work has definitely paid off. I want to say a big thanks to all of the people around me.” For the Frenchman, his overall win at RedBud also stands out as a memorable moment in the 2021 championship. “The track was one of the best of the season,” Ferrandis said. “I gave it everything I had in both motos, and getting back-to-back overall wins is a dream come true. With the fans cheering on the side of the track and the track being so fun to ride, I cherish this moment and want to give a big shoutout to the team and all of the people who help me.” Ferrandis gained control of the championship at High Point, and has headed the points ever since, leading by 47 points after round seven, as the series heads into the two-week break as of press time. Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger has also featured some breakthrough performances, including his first 450MX podium at the season opener. With two THOR/Star Yamaha riders on the podium, it was clear that the team is a force in the 2021 season.

In the 250MX division, the Monster Energy Star Racing dominance continues, with Justin Cooper leading the field and Jeremy Martin coming on strong in recent rounds. Coming off his 250SX West Supercross championship, Cooper carried his momentum straight into the outdoors. While the competition remains fierce and it seems new winners emerge each week, Cooper has shown the consistency to lead the championship. It took seven rounds before the AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship produced a repeat winner, and that winner is THOR athlete Jeremy Martin. It’s been an up down season for Martin, who came into the series nursing a wrist injury, which he then aggravated in a crash at round two. After sitting out the following round, Martin made a steady recovery, and then put a dominant stamp on his home race at Spring Creek with a decisive 1-1 victory. Spring Creek was a pivotal point for the THOR/Star Racing Yamaha 250 effort, as it also saw the points lead and red plate handed to Justin Cooper. ■

We also announced that we were able to donate a Can-Am Defender to MotoMedX, a rescue organization in Northern Nevada that provides for the safety of racers. It is a group of volunteer riders, many with extensive EMS backgrounds, that sweeps race courses and provides immediate on-site care in the event of a crash or injury. We also presented a new sweep rider vest in partnership with WLF Enduro; it’s a fully prepped kit for sweep riders with medical backgrounds to aid down or injured riders.
K
urt Caselli was one of the greatest off-road riders America ever produced. The three-time AMA Hare & Hound National Champion and three-time WORCS Champion also won several stages of the Dakar Rally as well as multiple ISDE Gold Medals. He died in 2013 in a racing accident while leading the Baja 1000 in Mexico. In addition to being a celebrated racer, Kurt was also a great human being who helped and mentored fellow riders. After his passing, friends and family formed the Kurt Caselli Foundation to honor his legacy, and focus on a three-part mission that encompasses safety precautions for riders before, during, and after a racing career. At the Foundation’s annual fundraiser in June at the Doffo Winery in Temecula, California we spoke with its Director of Operations, Lindsey Lovell, about this amazing organization. (Q&A edited for clarity and space.)
Parts Magazine: Tell us about this year’s event? Lindsey Lovell: This was our 7th Annual Caselli MotoDoffo Winery event. Each year, we partner up with the Doffo family to host this event and raise funds to further our mission and continue to fund important safety initiatives. Prior to the event, Doffo makes a Caselli wine blend, decorated with a MotoDoffo label by a talented artist. This year’s label was done by Chris White of Buzz Vizuals. There was also a raffle and live auction. We announced that six recipients would be receiving the Kurt Caselli Scholarship for the fall 2021 semester, the $2,500

What other events does the Foundation hold? We host two annual events – the Doffo Winery fundraiser and our annual Kurt Caselli Ride Day. The 2021 Ride Day event will be held on Saturday, December 4th at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. The KCF will be giving away a 2021 KTM 350 XC-F at the ride. Between the two events, we raise money to continue to fund our annual budget.
What has the Foundation accomplished so far? Since 2014, the Kurt Caselli Foundation has raised more than $1,600,000 to protect and support the lives of off-road riders, and has spent over $700,000 so far on Safety Initiatives. Highlights include supporting various off-road and motocross series with safety supplies such as course markings, high-visibility race bibs for youth riders, yellow caution flags, emergency vehicles for medical race personnel, emergency contact helmet stickers, first-aid kits, pre-race course safety advisor, communications for medic and race personnel, and medical indicator flags and race flags. We also established Riders 1st Responders to help train riders in CPR and First Aid, as riders are often the first responders in most emergency situations on the trail or race course. The Foundation donated the Ultrasound machine that travels the Supercross and Pro Motocross circuit aboard the Alpinestars Mobile Medical unit.

Engage and Integrate – as well as bringing on new talent and supporting new-rider education initiatives. Ride With Us is purposefully being launched within the first postCoronavirus riding season and we will be rolling out various tools and campaign elements to help grow the industry.
Parts Magazine had a chance to talk with Erik Pritchard, the MIC’s President and CEO about the Ride With Us program and its aim to create more riders and to get current and returning enthusiasts riding more. Given that this is an industry-wide effort of multiple, ongoing initiatives, there will be opportunities for Parts Unlimited dealers and aftermarket vendors to get involved. (This Q&A has been edited for clarity and space.)
We have to remember that we’re competing with other outdoor activities; outdoor recreation all had growth. And as the country opens up, we are also competing with all the other ways people spend time – concerts, games, travel, etc. One of the questions we asked is, ‘How do we keep up this growth?’ One answer is to make it as easy as possible for prospective new riders to experience motorcycling in an easy, comfortable way.
he Motorcycle Industry Council has launched Ride With Us, the powersports industry’s multifaceted market expansion program. The program is an effort by the MIC and its member companies to support new and returning riders at every stage of their journey, with the goal of increasing ridership and growing the industry.
Parts Magazine: How did the Ride With Us program come about? Erik Pritchard: While we were navigating the Coronavirus, we also were working hard to prepare for the post-pandemic environment. As you know, the powersports industry has done well during the pandemic. Motorcycling in particular is an ideal way to enjoy recreational riding, transportation, exploring and still practice social distancing. Many new riders got their start, and many past riders returned. Demand went through the roof with Covid-19. We wanted to develop programs to keep those numbers on the upswing. How do we continue to generate demand? Our preparation included a number of initiatives tied to each phase of the new rider journey – Inspire, Explore,

How can dealers and the aftermarket get involved? Basically, Ride With Us is a market expansion strategy to introduce everyone to the incomparable thrill of riding a motorcycle. We hope to make motorcycling more welcoming to newcomers, make it easier for them to have a first ride experience, then learn and grow as a motorcyclist, become part of the community and eventually a life-long rider. This will benefit the whole industry. Ride With Us is not a single program, but an ongoing series of initiatives. In the coming months, we will be launching a number of initiatives directly aimed at helping to support dealers. We’ve heavily invested in research, and dealers and the aftermarket are essential to this effort. With the support of the whole industry moving in the same direction, we can increase the number of riders.

Can you give us an example of a program designed to attract new riders? As a part of the Ride With Us program, the MIC partnered with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to deliver a new 45-minute first-ride experience for people who have never ridden a motorcycle before. The first-ride experience makes it easier for prospective riders to get their first taste of motorcycling in a fun, low-risk experience through its Ride With Us Moto Intro experience. This will be featured as a part of the Progressive International Motorcycle Show Outdoors Tour across the country. There’s nothing quite like the excitement, joy and feeling of empowerment that motorcycling can bring, but people aren’t always sure of how or where to start. The Ride With Us Moto Intro gives non-riders a chance to experience the thrill of their first ride within 45 minutes. We are delighted to work with IMS, and its great network of events, to bring this experience to even more people. In our test event, many people signed up for a Basic Rider Course as soon as they got off of the bike. We just need to help them get started, and then help guide them in their journey. Where can prospective new riders try the Moto Intro Ride With Us program? The Moto Intro is designed for people who have never ridden a motorcycle or scooter before. MSF RiderCoaches will guide new riders through basic motorcycle controls and help them experience their first ride in a closed-course environment.
This activation kicked off with the Progressive IMS Outdoor Tour in July in Sonoma, California, and will be a part of ongoing IMS events across the country this summer and fall. The schedule includes: • August 20-22
Chicago, Illinois (tentative)
• September 3-5

• November 19-21

The “first ride” exercise allows us to develop a relationship with these new riders, and is just the beginning of the journey into the motorcycling community. The program gives new riders their first taste of two-wheels on a speed-limited electric motorcycle. We provide all the gear, the bikes and the coaches. The rider journey continues online at www.ridewithus.com with information and resources on next steps, with specifics on rider education and training including the MSF Basic Rider Course.
» The Ride With Us Moto Intro experience will be free to attendees along
the IMS circuit. Stay tuned for details on the tools and support for dealers the MIC is launching and to learn more go to www.ridewithus.com.

arts Unlimited carries a variety of products to help your E-bike customers avoid flats and rim damage, plus plug punctures and air up when a flat does happen. From tubeless sealant and Flat Tire Defender inserts to plug kits, inflators, and CO2 cartridges, Parts has everything your customers need to keep their E-bikes rolling.
DITCH THE TUBES Going tubeless saves rotating weight, allows your customers to run lower tire pressures for more traction and a smoother ride, and eliminates the common pinch flat. And when it comes to E-bikes like the INTENSE TazerMX, going tubeless means your customers can avoid the hassle of flipping their heavy E-bike upside-down for a trailside tube replacement, having to carry an axle-removal tool, and needing to pack spare 27.5-inch and 29-inch tubes. The TazerMX is ready to go tubeless thanks to pre-taped rims and tubeless-ready Maxxis tires. All you need to do is remove the inner tube, install the tubeless valve stems that come with the bike, and add the appropriate amount

of tire sealant. Sealant is needed to prevent air loss at the tire bead, and also serves to plug punctures. Parts Unlimited carries premium sealants from both Maxima and Muc-Off, two well-known and trusted moto brands with a knack for developing effective formulas. Maxima’s Tubeless Sealant combines fast-acting polymers with suspended rubber particles to quickly seal punctures, providing a patch that’s nearly as durable as the tire itself. Offered in a 16-ounce bottle, Tubeless Sealant offers longlasting performance, remaining functional within the tire for up to six months. Since sealant does have a service life, Maxima’s Tubeless Sealant comes with handy rim stickers so your customers can note the installation date. Muc-Off’s No Puncture Hassle sealant uses a liquid latex mixed with proprietary clotting agents to seal big punctures. The formula even contains a UV-sensitive dye that will highlight the puncture location so your customers can keep tabs on their tires’ condition. No Puncture Hassle sealant is offered in a convenient 140 milliliter pouch designed to pour into Presta valves, as well as a shop-size 1000 milliliter bottle.

Even with sealant splashing around inside their tires, your customers may still suffer a puncture that the sealant can’t handle. That’s why having a tubeless plug kit on hand is critical. Parts Unlimited carries the Cigar Tool from Crankbrothers as well as the new Tubi Master X kit from Topeak. Both kits include tubeless plugs, a reamer, installation tool and CO2 cartridge adapters, and are small enough to strap to the seat-post, or carry in a seat bag. Bundle the Cigar Tool or Tubi Master X with a few 25-gram CO2 cartridges (available in bulk packs for convenient stocking) and your customers with have everything they need to fix a flat and get aired up. The Tubi Master X even features an advanced 2-in-1 CO2 injector head that works to install the plug and inflate the tire in one step, helping riders get back to their ride as quickly as possible. When it comes to setting tire pressure, a few PSI make a big difference. That’s why it’s important to have an accurate tire gauge on hand. Topeak’s Smartgauge D2 features a rotating head that works seamlessly with Presta and Schrader valves, and reads up to 250 PSI, displaying the pressure on an easy-to-read LCD screen. An air-release button makes dialing in the pressure easy.
TIRE AND RIM PROTECTION Your off-road motorcycle clientele are no doubt familiar with mousse inserts. Well, a similar product is available
for E-bikes in the form of the Flat Tire Defender II. This bicycle-specific closed-cell insert was designed to keep professional competitors from suffering race-ending flats and rim damage, but it works for casual riders too. The FTD II is for use on tubeless applications and allows lower pressures to be run for a bigger tire-contact patch and superior traction. The insert supports tire sidewalls for improved cornering and stability, secures the tire bead to minimize burping, and most importantly acts as a bump stop to prevent big hits from pinching and tearing the tire or damaging the rim. Given the weight of modern E-bikes and the speed they’re able to carry, installing Flat Tire Defenders is a smart move. If your customers aren’t quite ready to ditch their tubes, they can still protect their rims and help avoid flats by running the FTD Tube Defender. Designed for tires being run with tubes, the FTD Tube Defender provides a protective layer between the bicycle tire and the tube to help prevent tube punctures, pinch flats and rim damage. Another advantage to this product is that it doesn’t require tire sealant.

PLUG THE PUNCTURE AND AIR UP
Both the FTD II and FTD Tube Defender are easy to install and available in a variety of sizes to fit modern mountain bikes, including 27.5/29-inch combos for the INTENSE TazerMX. Please note that running the FTD Tube Defender may require a narrower inner tube to compensate for reduced tire volume.

ATV/UTV MARKET OVERVIEW
ATV/UTV MARKET OVERVIEW Both segments hit sales records in 2020
I
t’s no secret that the four-wheeler segment of the powersports market is alive and booming, an achievement reflected by the proliferation of aftermarket products available through Parts Unlimited. In 2020 alone, both the domestic UTV and ATV vehicle segments hit new sales records, with ATV sales ratcheting up more than 30 percent over 2019, according to research performed by Minnesotabased Power Products Marketing (PPM). Let’s take a look at a breakdown of these recordsetting numbers.
ATV Market Spotlight
According to the PPM, ATV sales in the U.S. in 2020 totaled 275,870 units, up +32 percent, compared to 208,580 units in 2019. This represents the most sales since the market moved more than 320,000 units in 2009. Looking back at the ATV market over the past 20 years, the U.S. saw sales of approximately 651,675 units in 2000, then witnessed a rise of nearly +25 percent over the next four years to an all-time high of almost 812,800 units in 2004. The market then declined between 2005 and 2008 - likely due to increased consumer interest in UTVs – and experienced the Great Recession in 2009.

S P E C I A L
In 2020, sales trends suggested Utility models represented 77 percent of the market, followed by Youth models responsible for 16 percent of the market, and Sport models representing 7 percent of the market share. UTV Market Spotlight
Relatedly, UTV sales in the U.S. in 2020 for the first time eclipsed 600,000 units, growing an incredible +48 percent in the past five years, reports PPM. Initially a vehicle delegated to commercial uses – industrial, construction, turf maintenance, etc. – UTVs found favor with consumer users as soon as they realized manufacturers were bringing vehicles to market that could offer off-road adventure in relative comfort. From a historical perspective, the UTV market grew at a moderate average annual pace of about +5.5 percent between 1990 and 1996 as the availability of commercial applications bloomed and experienced consistent growth. Between 1996 and 2000, UTV sales more than doubled as the U.S. economy continued to expand, fueled by record consumer spending. At this point, much of the growth remained in the commercial side of the market, although even the consumer side began finding traction. Then, spurred by the introduction of consumer-oriented

machines like the Yamaha Rhino and later Polaris RZR, North American UTV sales began an astonishing six-year surge at an average annual growth of +20 percent until reaching a high of 270,700 units in 2008. In 2009, as the U.S. economy endured the worst recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s, UTV sales took a big hit. Sales quickly bounced back in 2010, however, and grew in each of the following 10 years, with purchases apparently spurred by financially secure consumer recreationists, the rapid development of an ever-larger selection of vehicle types, and what appears to be a growing consumer preference for choosing to spend dollars on home-grown pursuits that have also proven to benefit boat and recreational vehicle sales. There’s one thing for certain, UTV owners love to modify their rides. Parts Unlimited offers a huge selection of aftermarket parts, gear and accessories that answer any upgrade need, whether it’s performance, appearance, function or creature comforts and all mods in between. ■

Premium Lubes for Side-by-Sides Maxima’s SXS Premium engine oil is an economic option for keeping your customers’ engines spinning smoothly. SXS Premium is a mineral-based oil that provides excellent film thickness and viscosity stability across all operating temperatures for optimal performance and reduced wear.
Maxima offers both a SXS Premium engine oil and a SXS Synthetic engine oil, each one developed for optimum performance in the hard-working engines of modern side-by-sides.
Maxima’s SXS Syn Gear oil, a fullsynthetic, ester-based gear oil, is formulated to withstand everything from high-load hill climbs to highspeed desert riding

Maxima’s lubricants offer outstanding component protection and performance, and the company has a variety of SXS-specific products. That includes mineral and synthetic engine oils, gear oil, and transmission fluid, as well as Maxima’s popular SXS Quick Change Kits, which are available for the Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo and non-turbo models, as well as most Polaris RZR and Ranger models.

To make oil changes even easier, Maxima has developed the SXS Quick Change Kit. These “Oil Change in a Box” kits combine SXS Synthetic oil in 5W-40, 5W-50 or 10W50 with a premium ProFilter spin-on or ProFilter cartridge filter (depending on model) and a replacement drain-plug crush washer. These convenient kits are offered for Polaris RZRs and Rangers as well as Can-Am Maverick models.

he riding season is in full swing, which means your customers are stacking hours on their sideby-sides. Help them keep the fun at full throttle this summer by encouraging them to stay on top of their vehicles’ maintenance. That means on-time oil changes as well as fresh gear oil and transmission fluid, all of which is available from Maxima Racing Oils.

For the ultimate in protection, SXS Synthetic engine oil is the way to go. Mixed entirely from lab-made molecules for the purest and most refined lube possible, SXS Synthetic combines a shear-stable polymer package with a healthy dose of surface-active esters. These synthetic esters help the oil stick to surfaces for better lubrication at high engine speeds, while the polymer system maintains oil-film and viscosity, even in the hottest summer temps.
SEPTEMBER 2021
Maxima’s SXS Trans fluid is also ideal for Can-Am and Polaris models with CVT transmissions. Channeling 100-plus horsepower through an automatic transmission requires lots of moving parts to be properly lubricated and cooled, and that’s exactly what SXS Trans is designed to do. As with Maxima’s engine oils, SXS Trans fluid is formulated to maintain that critical film thickness across all operating temperatures to minimize gear, bearing, and chain wear.
The final link between your customer’s throttle foot and the tires are the hypoid gears found in the SXS’s differentials. Keeping those ring gears and pinions gears – as well as their supporting bearings – bathed in the right lube is crucial. That’s where Maxima’s SXS Syn Gear oil comes in. This full-synthetic, ester-based gear oil is formulated to withstand everything from high-load hill climbs to high-speed desert riding. With extreme pressure and anti-wear additives mixed into a synthetic base oil, SXS Syn Gear optimizes power transfer while ensuring ultimate hardware protection. ■

Audio and Communication Packages for UTVs passengers to communicate with the driver right next to them, let alone people in other cars.
This two-person over-the-head intercom and radio system is just one of NavAtlas’ communication packages. The kits include everything needed for great in-car and car-to-car communications.
NavAtlas aims to equip drivers with reliable and clear communication, and takes the guess work out of ordering by offering all the necessary components in several allin-one packages. With a dual-band UHF/VHF, 250-channel ready radio, dual-band antennas, three headset style options plus all the necessary cables and connections, UTV enthusiasts across a variety of different settings can benefit from in-car communication. For when it’s time to upgrade the audio experience, NavAtlas’ audio package options are designed to cover Polaris RZR and CanAm X3 models with various zones and components. These include a simple, amplified NRZ7PK Kick Pod or NRZ10BPK subwoofer, to amplified NX365PK upper Dash Pod systems for the CanAm X3.

port UTV machines have progressed by leaps and bounds in a short time. Everything from turbocharged engines to electronically controlled suspension has pushed the driving experience to new levels, but there are still several functional and enjoyment factors customers can’t always get from the factory. When the crew at NavAtlas isn’t developing their latest in powersports audio and communication, they like to spend their time hitting the trails in the driver’s seat, giving them a first-hand look to what can elevate UTV customers’ experience. NavAtlas offers an array of individual audio and communication components, but when your customers are faced with a long list of different options and specifications, those upgrades can be overwhelming, and lead to unwanted mistakes and frustration.
Zone 1 offers RZR customers an updated, digital source unit with all the popular source inputs, and even a rear camera input. Zones 2 through 6 bring clean and powerful sound to both CanAm and RZR models by adding kick panel or cage-mounted speakers to complement the upgraded source unit. As zone numbers increase, NavAtlas leaves customers the option to get as loud as they can handle with various combinations of subwoofers, speakers, sound bars, powerful amplifiers, and all the necessary wiring and mounting hardware. ■

The company has taken its components and grouped them into different audio and communication packages, including options for just about every customer, from simple, quality upgrades to complete, powerful systems. Protective features are a high priority in the UTV world. Upgraded restraints, doors and roll cages are common modifications, but another key factor can be delivered with in-car and car-to-car communication. CLUTCH KITS
Going Big
Clutch Kits Designed for Larger Tire Sizes
Trinity Racing created a clutch kit that takes care of the issues UTV customers run into when adding larger tires. Each kit is designed for a specific vehicle, tire size and elevation.
S
ure, ripping across a dune, tearing down a trail or blasting across the great wide open in a UTV is a great time, but building that beast before it ever leaves the pavement is fun too. When your customers buy a new UTV, most want to personalize their rides with the myriad aftermarket parts and accessories that are available. Whether it’s an aftermarket exhaust system, fuel management setup, wheels and tires, or a sound system, there are many options to choose from. One of the most popular modifications for UTV’s is an aftermarket set of wheels and tires. And, when doing so, often the tire size is increased. Larger tires look great and help the vehicle roll over rocks more easily, but they also change how the clutch engages, effectively changing the gearing to being much taller. This in turn hinders the lowend performance of the vehicle and puts more stress on the drive belt. The team over at Trinity Racing has been modifying UTVs for years, and it knows a thing or two about increasing vehicle performance. When it comes to that tire/wheel modification, the company created a clutch kit that takes care of those issues caused by sizing up on the tires.

Trinity Racing designed the clutch kit to consider the overall diameter of the tire that is being installed, and made it simple to choose which kit is best for your customers’ applications. Each of the clutch kits is designed for a specific vehicle, tire size and elevation. For example, a 2020 Polaris RZR Turbo that is in a lower elevation climate and has new tires with an overall diameter of 32-inches would take a specific clutch kit that is designed to fit 2017-2020 Polaris RZR Turbo models with 30-inch to 32-inch tires, and is driven primarily between zero and 3,000 feet of elevation. This kit includes clutch springs, weights and a new drive belt. Your service techs will be happy to know that installation is a breeze. There is also no need to tune the clutch, as the weights are specific for the application to make it simple for the installer and the end user. The included drive belt is an upgrade over stock and has a 2-year warranty against any premature failures due to manufacturing. Let your customers know that Trinity Racing offers a variety of quality, American-made UTV performance parts and accessories, a full range of which are available through Parts Unlimited. ■

Wireless-Controlled Winch Systems
Warn Industries’ new HUB wireless control system allows riders to control their WARN winches straight from their smart phone. When combined with the AXON winch, the app provides a range of useful digital control and data feedback.
T
he potent mixture of adrenaline, determination and pride has been getting off-roaders into trouble for decades and, with more than 70 years of off-road know-how, Warn Industries has been helping get them out. A major manufacturer of powersports winch recovery systems, Warn has not only stepped up the company’s winch’s capabilities, but it has also revolutionized how they’re controlled as well.
Warn’s AXON powersports winch features the evolutionary Motactor system – an integrated, high-efficiency motor with digital control and data feedback. HUB allows users to take full advantage of this new-era winch technology, enabling the display of winch load, winch motor temperature and vehicle battery voltage directly on the HUB app. This combination creates a powerful recovery system with seamless functionality.
Warn recently introduced its HUB wireless control systems, intertwining modern-day technology and functionality with the reliable power for which the company is known. HUB allows users to control their winch straight from their smartphone. The HUB receiver simply connects directly to the winch, and is ready to pair with the custom-developed WARN HUB app on any iOS or Android-powered smart device.
In addition to the Motactor innovation, AXON winches are fully equipped with specifically designed features to serve powersports customers. A planetary gear train, Hub-Lock clutch dial, complete metal casing and IP68rated water-resistant construction, AXON offers an ultimate powersports winch package with ease of installation and use backed up by consistent and reliable performance.
This Bluetooth connectivity allows for instantaneous power-in and power-out control of the winch up to 100feet away. The HUB wireless receiver is available for several different WARN powersports winches, including the Vantage and ProVantage, plus the new models, the VRX and AXON. When paired with any of these winches, HUB will also conveniently show users the vehicle’s battery voltage status. However, winch recovery technology gets kicked up a notch when paired with the AXON.

Performance Chains for a Range of Uses
T
oday’s ATV chains are required to handle the increased torque output of moving two rear wheels as opposed to one wheel as on a motorcycle. This massive torque load places an intense amount of stress on the chain, which can increase or decrease depending on the engine load, the terrain and even the tire features.
MAX X and MAX O
RK Chain has created chain models suitable for use with all ATVs, and the various environments in which they perform.
520EXW One of RK Chain’s most popular ATV rated chain is the 520EXW, an XW-Ring sealed extreme heat performance ATV chain. RK’s XW-Ring seals use triple-barrier grease protection, plus anti-debris technology to help eliminate debris friction between internal components. EXW chains also feature special thermal crack-resistant sideplates to protect against thermal cracking, which often results from debris or components impinging the chain’s movement. The impingement causes the chain to quickly heat up and cool down in rapid succession. Over a period of time this thermal exposure can reduce the strength of the chain and/or cause a chain failure. It is vitally important for customers to check their machines after a crash to make sure no debris is in contact with the chain.
MAX X and MAX O chains are perfectly suitable for weekend warriors and riders who are not seeking a lightweight racing chain, but are still looking for performance. RK’s MAX series offers great functionality while being economically priced.
The EXW is rated up to 750cc and has a max tensile strength rating of 7,700 ft/lbs. EXW is lightweight and is perfectly suitable for professional racing use, and has been the chain of choice for Team Duncan Racing for more than a decade. This multi-function chain can also be used for enduro and GNCC motorcycle racing. Currently Team FMF KTM Factory Racing is using GB520EXW in its off-road racing series. EXW is available in Gold or Natural finish.
If riders want an economically priced chain that features an increased wear-life, RK offers MAX X chain series. MAX X is designed to perform on both ATVs, street and off-road machines. With a tensile strength rating of 9,000 ft/lbs, and a 750cc max cc rating, MAX X can handle a range of ATV performance needs. MAX X is available in Gold, Natural, Chrome, Black/Gold, Black/Chrome, Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Pink or Yellow. MAX O is an O-ring sealed chain that is designed to perform on ATVs, street and off-road machines. MAX O is rated up to 650cc and has a tensile strength rating of 8,500 ft/lbs. MAX O is available in Gold or Natural finish. ■

All-Terrain Oil
Made for Hard-Working Four-Wheelers Back then, Bel-Ray was a humble operation in founder Bill Kiefer’s garage. These days, Bel-Ray has moved to much bigger facilities to accommodate all of the industrial, auto and powersports lubricants the company produces. While the formulations might not be made in a New Jersey garage anymore, every product is still manufactured in the United States. One of those products is Bel-Ray ATV & SxS Synthetic 4T engine oil. This 5w50 oil is a premium multi-grade engine oil that provides outstanding performance. And while the oil was formulated specifically for Polaris ATV and side-by-side vehicles, it is a quality choice for all ATV, SxS and UTV makes and models. ATVs and side-by-sides are great because they can go anywhere, which is exactly why they need an oil that can stand up to not just the wear and tear of use, but the elements, too. Rainy days, mud, dirt and other factors are a big consideration for the chemists at Bel-Ray, and the ATV & SxS oil has to provide optimal protection from rust, corrosion and deposits.
Bel-Ray ATV & SxS Synthetic 4T is a premium multi-grade 5w50 engine oil that provides outstanding performance for a variety of ATV, SxS and UTV makes and models.
W
hat does a modern ATV have in common with an OREO cookie? Yes, that sounds like the beginning of the worst joke ever, but the answer might surprise you. When Bel-Ray first started producing lubricants more than 70 years ago, it wasn’t for powersports vehicles, but for Nabisco’s hightemperature bakery ovens. The same company that helped produce some of America’s most legendary cookies now keeps powersports engines running at their best.

This sturdy line of defense is achieved in part by Bel-Ray’s Rust Defense System (RDS). This special formula includes moisture inhibitors, which means engine components stay protected even when vehicles are going through streams, deep mud or other potential rust hazards. The formula even works for frequent, short-run usage.
In all, the chemistry of the ATV & SxS 4T oil is designed for premium protection and durability. The low-volatility base oils help minimize oil consumption, while the high-viscosity index provides improved protection in high temperatures. Bel-Ray’s anti-wear chemistry helps keep engine components in great shape by reducing valvetrain wear and ensuring there is no excess scuffing on the pistons and rings. Keeping an engine clean is a must, too, and it should go without saying that Bel-Ray has designed this oil to keep sludge and varnish deposits from forming. ■

Hot Rods has supplied the powersport aftermarket with OEM-level quality crankshafts and connecting rods for more than 25 years, at considerably less cost than OEM prices. The new Can-Am kits and individual products are no exception. Hot Rods’ Can-Am crankshafts are forged from 4140 steel and precision machined for a direct-fit, drop-in replacement. The connecting rod assemblies, forged from C70S6 alloy, are also OEM-quality and machined for an exactreplacement fit. The required connecting rod bolts (which are torqueto-yield bolts that cannot be used more than once) are replaced with Hot Rods bolt sets, which the company says are unique to the aftermarket. Heat Control for Today’s UTVs
E
ngines make a lot more heat than horsepower. In fact, for every gallon of gasoline that’s burned in your customers’ UTV engines, only about 25 percent of the available energy goes toward turning the rear wheels. That means roughly 75 percent of each gallon of gas is being converted into decalbubbling, seat-scorching, sweat-inducing heat. That’s a lot of warmth to manage, but thankfully, controlling heat is exactly what Design Engineering Inc. does. Since 1995, Design Engineering Inc. has pursued heatmanagement solutions for the powersports industry. With its Extreme Heat Barrier and Reflect-A-Cool sheeting, as well as exhaust wrap and other heat-reflecting and insulating products, Design Engineering has products that will help protect expensive components and vehicle occupants from extreme heat as they enjoy their side-bysides this summer.
DEI’s model-specific Heat Control Kit offers a perfect fit and easy installation. They are designed to reduce the amount of heat that penetrates the cab of a UTV.
HEAT CONTROL PRODUCTS
Cooler in the Cab
In many of today’s powerful UTVs, engine and exhaust heat radiates causes the cab to heat up like an oven. To address this issue, DEI has developed Heat Control Kits for Can-Am’s Mavericks and Commanders, Honda’s Pioneers and Talon 1000, and the Polaris RZRs. These pre-cut, model-specific kits offer a perfect fit and easy installation, and will greatly reduce the amount of heat that penetrates the cab. Depending on the application, kits include Extreme Heat Barrier and ReflectA-Cool panels that shield the firewall, center-console channel, and the underside of the seats.
DEI also has sheets of Extreme Heat Barrier and Heat Screen for custom applications. They can be used on a variety of surfaces and provide excellent heat shielding.
The workhorse of DEI’s Heat Control Kits is the Extreme Heat Barrier. This multi-layer material features a dimpled 10-mil aluminum face bonded to a 1/8-inch composite glass-fiber core that’s backed with a high-temp adhesive. At only 3/16-inch thick, Extreme Heat Barrier offers effective, low-profile thermal protection that withstands temperatures up to 1750°F. For less demanding areas, DEI implements its Heat Screen, which is a thinner, more flexible material with an aluminized skin, compressedglass insulation liner, and adhesive backing. Both materials are CNC-cut for an exact fit, ensuring maximum coverage and easier installation. DEI’s products also help deaden sound and reduce vibrations. Extreme Heat Barrier is so tough that it also serves as a durable barrier against trail debris, which is especially beneficial for the exposed center-console channel on Honda’s Talons.
custom applications. With their strong adhesive backing, these materials can be used on any number of surfaces including steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, plastic, and more. Use them to replace worn-out OEM heat shielding or apply them anywhere that heat penetration is an issue. ■
Beyond these model-specific UTV kits, DEI also offers sheet kits of Extreme Heat Barrier and Heat Screen for

ince its founding in 1958, S&S Cycle has proven itself as a dominant provider of big, reliable power to the two-wheeled, V-Twin marketplace, whether it be on the street, the track or the white Bonneville flats. Now the company behind all that horsepower and know-how has turned its attention off-road with a fresh line of performance exhausts for popular side-by-side models. The new Power Tune XTO Exhaust shows that the go-fast crew at S&S likes ripping around on four-wheels just as much as they like doing it on two.
After more than 60 years of providing big, reliable power to the V-Twin marketplace, S&S Cycle now offers a line of performance exhausts for popular side-by-side models.
S&S is offering the systems with fitments for Polaris RZR models and the Honda Talon. Windshield and Storage Options for UTVs
K
eeping the elements outside and cargo safely secured inside are two of the things at which Moose Utility Division excels. Among the many bodywork and storage options the company offers for UTVs are windshields and bed enclosures.
Moose Utility Division’s full folding deluxe windshields provide plenty of protection, airflow and unobstructed vision for your UTV-driving customers.
PARTS & ACCESSORIES
See and Stash
On some days, like when it’s especially windy or rainy out, a full windshield is absolutely perfect. Other times, though, riders like to have a little bit of airflow and unobstructed visibility while out on the trail or on the job. Moose Utility Division gives UTV riders the best of both worlds with full folding deluxe windshields. When the windshield is completely up, riders get an extra layer between them and the elements. The top of the windshield is designed to work with the lines of the OEM roof, so that there is not a large gap between the two pieces.
The design of the windshield includes three hinges that allow the top part to fold down, all without creating a gap that water can sneak through.
Making the switch from a full windshield to a half windshield is easy since the top part is mounted to the roll cage with two hook-and-loop straps. On the lower part of the full folding windshield, three p-clamps securely attach the whole unit to the roll cage for a sturdy connection. The design of the windshield includes three hinges that allow the top part to fold down, all without creating a gap that water can sneak through. The hinge line has a unique fold to prevent water intrusion. Each full folding windshield is made from a premium 0.177-inch thick polycarbonate material, and UTV customers who ride through a lot of hanging branches or other debris can opt for the hard coated option. The hard coating on both the front and back of the windshield makes the polycarbonate even more scratch resistant. While the windshield keeps things from coming into the vehicle up front, a Moose Utility Division bed enclosure keeps things from falling out of the vehicle at the back. One of the benefits of a bed enclosure is that items are securely stowed but still easy to access.
Moose Utility Division bed enclosure keeps things from falling out of the vehicle, but still provides easy access to items stowed in the bed.
Mounting the enclosure is simple and fast thanks to four built-in anchor points. With just four screws, the enclosure is secure enough to haul tools, coolers or other cargo without worry. The bed enclosure is made from a 12-gauge powder coated steel for premium strength and durability. ■

Three inner mesh pockets secure small items, while a main divider allows the bag to be one big compartment or two smaller ones. Interior panels can be removed, too, when the bag needs to squeeze into a small space. Outer straps ensure the bag stays put. The UTV Hydration/Storage bag fits between the seats of most UTVs, allowing easy access to an insulated main compartment and housing a 2-liter bladder for each rider. Outer pockets stow small items, and the sturdy UltraMax fabric is fade-free. Rigg Gear wouldn’t be complete without the Trails End tool bag set, which includes a large Tool Roll. For years winning racers in almost every ATV/UTV class have relied on DP’s sintered-metallic brake pads, and countless recreational and every-day use riders have also switched to DP. With DP pads ATVs and UTVs slow down and stop quicker in shorter distances and with more rider control and feel than OE. That high-level feel and performance also lasts a good, long while. DP pads can deliver two to three times the service life of OE brake pads and do it while remaining easy on the rotors. To guard against brake fade DP’s ATV/UTV pads also feature ceramic heat shields permanently bonded onto the baking plates. Stainless Steel Exhaust Systems for UTVs
X
DR Off-Road brings 30 years of experience to the UTV exhaust market with systems born from the automotive exhaust manufacturer and sister company, Flowmaster.
The company’s exhaust systems feature stainless steel construction throughout, and utilize a baffled muffler design uniquely adapted to UTVs. While fiberglass-packed mufflers are common, the consistent high rpm nature of UTVs will require them to be frequently disassembled and re-packed, the company says. Aiming to decrease maintenance, XDR’s welded-in baffle-style mufflers require no packing material whatsoever. These mufflers deliver a consistent, throaty sound that speaks performance without an unwanted, tinny pitch. These systems are available in both single outlet and dual outlet configurations for most applications. Dual outlet systems feature spark arrestors designed by XDR that comply with US Forestry Service regulations. For stricter competition rules, XDR designed the single outlet systems to easily accept OEM spark arrestors.
XDR’s stainless steel exhaust systems feature a baffled design uniquely adapted to UTVs. They provide a performance boost and a consistent throaty sound.
Attention to detail continues with a laser-cut heat shield that provides both a trick look and heat protection on most models. Dual outlet systems add to the unique look with stainless steel tips fitted with black anodized rings that tuck cleanly under the tail section of the car. XDR exhaust systems are available for a wide range of popular UTV models from Can-Am Polaris and Yamaha, and are tested for a precise fit and no-hassle installation. Plus, they all carry a lifetime warranty so your customers can rest easy knowing their equipment is covered. ■

Dunlop’s D803GP is a radial, sticky trials tire that was designed for professional and amateur trials riders alike.
Virtually all forms of riding require a tire that hooks up and withstands hard use, and trials is certainly no exception. As avid riders and enthusiasts themselves, Dunlop recognized the need for the elevated tire performance needed in trials riding and competition. Trials riders maneuver their machines up, down and over obstacles many motorcyclists wouldn’t event think possible, which is why traction is crucial. Someone who knows first-hand the demands a trials tire must meet is professional rider, Pat Smage. Pat isn’t just a professional trials competitor, he possesses incredible craft and skill on a motorcycle, which is reflected in his eleven US National Trials Championships. Dunlop has a history of working with top athletes to develop and fine tune the company’s tires, and they’ve been working directly with Pat throughout every one of his championships, and even before. “A huge part of trials is finding traction, and Dunlop tires have been providing me with all the traction I need since I started riding Nationals,” Smage said. “You need a tire that works well in all conditions – that can be ran low enough to form around rocks while being strong enough to take

Rebellious Streak Seats Made for a Honda
success story for Mustang, so of course the brand is eager to give Rebel 1100 riders a big upgrade in comfort while still maintaining the low, streamlined look of the Rebel. Each Mustang Tripper solo seat for the Rebel has a contoured, bucketed design. This keeps things looking low and lean, but it also adds an extra layer of comfort and stability for the rider, preventing them from sliding backwards. The tall 6 inches of rise at the back is like having a built-in backrest.
Mustang’s signature bucket-seat styling gives the rider a feeling of sitting in the motorcycle with excellent lower lumbar support.
Additionally, the bucket styling helps a rider feel like they are sitting in the motorcycle, making them more a part of the machine than a standard OEM seat that one simply sits on. Mustang uses this design as a great way to improve control and confidence, all without vastly altering the reach to the controls or the ground compared to the stock seat. The Tripper solo seat for the 2017-2021 Rebel 300 and 500 is 12 inches wide, meaning it’s wider than stock, and the seat for the 2021 Rebel 1100 measures in at 11 inches wide. For all three models, the Tripper passenger seat provides an ample 10 inches of width.
The newly released Tripper Solo and matching Passenger seats for Honda Rebel 1100. Mustang’s Tripper platform delivers long-haul comfort for Rebels without the bulk of a traditional touring seat.
Underneath the Tripper solo seat is a marine-grade fiberglass baseplate equipped with polyurethane bumpers to absorb vibration. Up top, the material has all the style of leather, but it’s actually an extremely durable hand-stitched expanded vinyl. It’s what Mustang Seats puts between those two layers that really makes a difference. Mustang’s proprietary controlled-density foam is formulated to be soft enough to provide a comfortable ride, while still being resilient enough to stand up to long days in the saddle. Customers trying out a Tripper seat might think it feels firm, but after about 15 minutes, the foam compresses and molds itself to the rider’s body to provide a tailored fit. The result is premium comfort that lasts ride after ride, thanks to the foam’s resilience.

RIDING APPAREL
Built for Speed
Classic Sportbike Gear Goes Modern In the years following the jacket’s release, leather became really expensive. By 2013, the cost of it made the Motorhead more trouble than it was worth, quite literally, and Icon ceased production of it. By the spring of 2016, costs were more reasonable, and Icon debuted the Motorhead2. This new version got a big upgrade – instead of bulky foam armor, the Motorhead2 featured sleek, high-tech D3O armor. Now, the Icon Motorhead3 is ready to hit the streets. Once again, the design has gotten some changes. Riders want a jacket they can use every day, no matter what the weather has in store for them. The Motorhead jacket already had a removable quilted liner for cold days, and now the Motorhead3 has a waterproof liner for rainy days, too. The Motorhead3 also has a new chassis, moving from Icon’s relaxed fit to the sport fit for a sleeker silhouette and more tailored look.
W
hile making the 2007 film Planet Terror, director Robert Rodriguez was sporting the Icon Motorhead leather jacket behind the camera. Rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars is nice, but keeping the shoulders of motorcycle riders securely protected from encounters with the asphalt is even better. By blending edgy looks with all of the rider-centric features motorcyclists want, Icon has turned many of its helmets and gear into, well, Icons. That is why some of the brand’s gear has been resurrected over the years, or was never out of rotation to begin with. Styles and materials get updated, but the attitude and name remain the same. This fall, Icon is releasing the latest generation of its Motorhead jacket. While Rodriguez wore the first version, this newest one is the third iteration. Some of the hallmarks are still there, like the durable leather construction and large Icon badge, but a lot has been improved and updated. The original Motorhead was one of the most popular jackets from the early days of Icon. It had a lot going for it in addition to its cool styling, like body armor and leather construction. However, it also had a few things that needed improvement, namely, the body armor and leather construction. That doesn’t mean the first Motorhead was a flawed design. Rather, body armor and leather options have come a long way in the past 17 years.

Continuous improvement is always the goal at Icon. No one wants to buy a jacket with the same features and materials as something that was cutting-edge 10 years ago. The Motorhead3 has an improved fit, a better mix of leather and synthetic materials and a waterproof liner, making it a big upgrade over the original. ■

dventure riding continues to be a thriving segment of the motorcycle industry which means brands like Moose Racing are giving Adventure riders more options than ever before to help them get packed up and out on the road, or wherever the adventure leads. Since Adventure bikes are made to go anywhere, it’s important that luggage can do the same while keeping everything that’s packed inside dry and secure. The latest addition to Moose Racing’s Adventure lineup is the new Kenai Series Adventure Luggage. These aluminum side and top cases are designed to be practical, spacious and every bit as tough as the environments they will be hauling gear through.
The Kenai Series aluminum top cases feature four built-in cargo hooks on the exterior, and interior mats that provide grip to stop cargo from shifting while riding.

The Kenai Series includes side cases in 36-liter and 47-liter sizes, plus a top case in 37-liter and 48-liter sizes. The cases are all constructed of a high-quality hardened aluminum alloy. The sturdy material has been topped with a clear anodized finish to keep the aluminum looking bright and new, no matter what they are put through on a bike. Additionally, built-in case guards reduce the chance of a case getting damaged during use. One of the most interesting features of the Kenai Series luggage is the patented Kenai lock system. An integrated

The cases convert from motorcycle luggage to hand luggage in an instant. The Kenai lock system allows a rider to quickly detach the case from the mount, and the handle can then be used to easily carry the case. Moose Racing designed the Kenai Series side cases to be self-standing when they are removed from the bike, making them even more convenient for carrying as luggage.
Both the top cases and side cases have waterproof double sealing lids. The side cases open outward, offering riders quick access to stored cargo.
The side and top cases are, of course, built to keep the contents inside not just secure, but safe from the elements, too. The waterproof double sealing lid and compartment closure make sure that water can’t sneak into the case.
MOOSE RACING
AISI 304 stainless steel lock system incorporates the locking mechanism and handle, both securing the cases to their mounts and securing the contents of the cases. Just one key operates the mount and trunk lid.
Inside, a folding tray makes it easy to access contents when the lid is open, and it helps prevent contents from falling out. The right-side case is equipped with a cargo net, too, and there are a few other optional accessories to enhance storage and organization inside the side cases. A detachable inner mesh net helps things stay secure, even when the lid is open, and an expandable inner storage bag can be used with both the side and top cases. The largest of the Kenai Series side cases, the 47-liter option, is big enough to stow two helmets, if necessary. Dealers should note that depending on the application, it might be necessary to pair a large side case on one side with the smaller, 36-liter case on the other side to make room for the exhaust. Despite the size difference, the end result will be a better-balanced motorcycle and a more streamlined look.
Moose Racing offers mounting kits with fitments for a wide range of popular Adventure bike models.

such a robust size because it provides an extremely strong mounting base for the side cases and all of their contents. To further add to its strength and rigidity, a rear crossbar design resists flexing and damage. The mounts are powder coated to prevent corrosion.
Inside, the top cases have a mat on the bottom that provides a lot more grip than bare aluminum. It is designed to help prevent cargo from shifting while the ride is underway.
The mounting plates are application specific. Dealers can head to the Moose Racing website for installation instructions, and all mounting hardware is included in each kit.
Riders who will have a passenger along for the adventure can opt for the back rest attachment, which will mount to both sizes of the top case to give an extra layer of comfort.
Moose Racing offers two mounting options for the Kenai Series top cases, including an aluminum mounting plate and a composite mounting plate. ■
Of course, all of these cases need a corresponding Kenai Series mounting kit. With fitments for a wide range of popular Adventure models, the side case mounting kits are made from ¾-inch tubing. Moose Racing chose to use

hen it comes to pursuing new technologies to improve the pistons at the heart of your customers’ engines, JE Pistons is on the gas. The company’s most recent R&D efforts have yielded a new lineup of Ultra Series pistons featuring JE’s proprietary Aligned Grain Flow Technology. The result is an ultra-durable piston designed to optimize highperformance, forced-induction engines. Stuffing more air into the cylinders via supercharging or turbocharging is a very effective way to increase engine performance, but it puts added strain on components, especially the pistons. JE’s new Ultra Series pistons are specifically designed to operate in that high-pressure, highheat environment thanks to a variety of innovative features, including JE’s new Aligned Grain Flow Technology. This new forging technology is at the heart of the Ultra Series, and works to direct the grain flow of the aluminum around critical areas of the piston, increasing strength. Perfecting this proprietary forging process was no easy task, but it was made possible by the fact that all of JE’s production happen in-house in the USA.
JE Pistons’ new Ultra Series pistons are designed specifically for supercharged and turbo-charged applications.
PISTONS
Ultra Series Pistons
In addition, the Ultra Series uses thicker crown and ring lands to support the higher combustion pressures experienced in supercharged and turbocharged applications. Other key technologies include a thermalbarrier ceramic crown coating, Moly-based skirt coating, upgraded wrist pin, and double pin-oiler channels, all of which come together to make the Ultra Series JE’s strongest and most durable powersports piston yet. As always, JE products like the Ultra Series pistons are designed and manufactured in the USA, and come complete with ring pack, wrist pin, and wire locks. ■

FACE MASKS
Breathe Better
Face Masks Designed for Performance
M
ost racers, riders and enthusiasts typically follow the common practice of gearing-up with protective equipment to protect themselves from the potential harm of crashes or accidents. However, there are unseen health concerns present every time your customers hit the trail. Back in 2010, Steve Torbenson found himself struggling to find a face mask that efficiently filtered harmful particles he encountered daily in his construction work. So, he went to work designing, sourcing and testing materials and, just like that, RZ Mask was born. RZ Mask began and remains a family-operated business by the Torbensons. Being passionate enthusiasts for all things motorsports, they quickly realized the benefits an effective mask would have in off-road powersports applications. RZ Mask’s products are held to a filtration standard of blocking 99.9 percent of particulates, almost 5 percent more than a standard N95, the company reports. RZ Masks utilize replaceable filters specially designed to be capable of blocking particulates down to .1 micron in size. For some perspective on just how small that is, most bacteria and smoke particles only go down to about .3 microns, and a human hair is roughly 100 microns to 150 microns in size, approximately 400-times larger than what RZ Mask filters are capable of blocking. RZ Mask has done its due diligence and sent the company’s product off to be third-party tested by Nelson Labs, an organization dedicated to health-related testing. Since the positive results of those tests, RZ Mask has been endorsed by the Lung Transplant Foundation and Stanford University Medical Center, the company says.

RZ Mask’s range of products are designed to filter out harmful particulates, a great solution for off-road riders looking to control dust and other debris.
RZ Masks are available in several different styles and materials, but what’s recommended for mild to hot powersports or work conditions are the M2 and M2.5 mesh masks. These are constructed of lightweight mesh material and feature an adjustable nose clip, adjustable neck strap or elastic straps – depending on the model – and utilize replaceable filters. Additionally, a proprietary V1 exhalation valve provides dual, one-way discharge capability to reduce moisture and prevent fogging. RZ Mask offers three different types of filters for its masks. The F1standard active carbon filter features an initial carbon filtration layer blocking 99.9 percent of particulates, while the second active carbon element helps reduce harmful fumes and odors. The F2 and F3 filters are designed for 40 percent better breathability, utilizing an electrostatic filter layer that also blocks particulates down to .1 micron. The F2 does not feature the active carbon element, while the F3 does. RZ Mask M2 and M2.5 models include the mask itself, two F1 filters and a carrying bag with a carabiner clip. With a combination of durable construction, replaceable filters and a broad application use, RZ Masks can easily become a staple for just about any dealer. They are priced optimally to benefit both the dealer and the consumer, and the replaceable filter aspect is a low-effort driver of repeat business. ■
