n this issue you will see the news report of Dealernews magazine’s recent listing of the Top 100 Women in the Powersports industry. I know, or have met, many of them through the years, but some that stood out to me were those that we work with here at Parts Magazine, either as customers or on the production side. I was proud to see that my daughter, Jen Rose was included on the list. Her recognition by the Dealernews staff reminded me of my family’s long history in the motorcycle business, dating back over a hundred years to when my grandfather Joe Emde had a motorcycle repair business in El Centro, California. My father, Floyd Emde, took his first-place prize money from winning the 1948 Daytona 200 and started a motorcycle business in the San Diego area. He and my mother Florence would build it into a threestore operation until they retired in 1980. Like my dad, I first had a racing career, then worked for some companies in the motorcycle industry for some years before my wife Tracy and I started our own publishing business in 1990. The scope of our work falls into two categories: motorcycle history and the modern-day motorcycle business. To date, we have published five motorcycle history books, with a couple others coming. I do the research and writing, while Tracy proofreads and edits every page. Working together, as we have done all these years, has taught us that great writing is a result of great editing. The Motorsports Press Guild apparently agreed in 2019 when
my book, The Speed Kings, was named “Best Book of the Year”. No motorcycle book has ever won that award before. On the business side, we are now in our 29th year of publishing dealer magazines for LeMans Corporation. We produce not only Parts Magazine, but also Drag Specialties Magazine and Parts Europe Magazine, 16 issues total per year. We have a great team working on these publications, including our Editor Dennis Johnson, Art Director Morgan Williams, and numerous writers (including some also named to the Top 100 list). And that brings me to our fourth generation of the Emde family to have worked in the motorcycle industry. Our son Jeff is employed full time as a defense contractor for the United States Space Force, but he has also worked for us on the side for many years as our webmaster. Jen is an invaluable part of our team. She has been full-time at Don Emde Incorporated for almost twenty years, doing double duty as both bookkeeper and production manager of the magazines, plus assisting when needed on the book projects. She also serves as Secretary of our corporation. It’s great to see Jen receiving this well-deserved recognition by her industry peers. Congratulations to her, and to the other 99 women in Powersports who have contributed to the success of their companies and to the industry. ■

NEWS EVENTS Parts Unlimited and KICKER Performance Audio Named as Title and Presenting Sponsors of AFT Singles Class
P
rogressive American Flat Track recently announced that Parts Unlimited has signed a multi-year partnership as title sponsor of the AFT Singles class starting with the 2022 season. Joined by KICKER Performance Audio as presenting sponsor for 2022, the class will now be known as the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER. Parts Unlimited has long lived up to the pledge it has become synonymous with: “WE SUPPORT THE SPORT®.” The world’s largest distributor of aftermarket accessories in the powersports industry, Parts Unlimited has been an active supporter of motorsports for as long as it has been supplying dealerships and enthusiasts worldwide with the ultimate selection of accessories. The Wisconsin-based company’s direct partnership ties to Progressive AFT date back to 2018, and it continues to serve as the series’ Official Wholesaler alongside its sister brand, Drag Specialties. As part of the expanded partnership, Parts Unlimited has committed $30,000 in championship bonuses to be paid out to the top three AFT Singles riders at the end of the season -- $15,000 to the ’22 class champion, $10,000 to the runner-up, and $5,000 to the third-ranked rider. “Parts Unlimited is really excited to continue the relationship with Progressive AFT with a new multiyear deal,” said Hylton Beattie, Global Motorsports Director of Parts Unlimited. “We
are delighted to be the AFT Singles Class Title Sponsor. The Singles class consistently delivers close, exciting racing from a mixture of experienced and talented young riders that in 2021 saw twelve different riders on the podium. We will continue to “We Support the Sport” with the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER events encompassing broad factory support, professional privateer teams and raw talent, all the ingredients to produce some legendary racing.” Presenting sponsor KICKER Performance Audio has established a “Living Loud Legacy” by producing highperformance audio products, ranging from powersports, auto, marine, home, and personal audio – since 1973. After getting its first taste as a Progressive AFT sponsor in 2021, the Stillwater, Oklahoma-based brand will also step up its official support in 2022. “American Flat Track is an organization that KICKER has followed and respected for the longest time,” said Kevin Campbell, Director of KICKER Marketing. “In our minds, it is a smart move for a brand such as KICKER Performance Audio to associate itself with a motorsport that boasts the lengthy history and accomplishments of AFT.” ■

Progressive AFT will kick off the 2022 season with a Daytona Bike Week doubleheader on Thursday, March 10 and Friday, March 11 at Volusia Speedway Park. For more information on Progressive AFT visit https://www.americanflattrack.com.

On January 19th, the Top 100 Women in Powersports were recognized at the AIMExpo in Las Vegas. Dealernews magazine owner (and dealer) Bob Althoff spoke at a luncheon held there. arts Magazine publisher Don Emde was recently invited to tour the KTM North America headquarters in Murrieta, Calif. The purpose was to have a first-hand look at both the existing facilities of the organization’s three brands—KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas—as well as the all-new $50 million headquarters that was announced last November. Emde’s guide for the tour was Sel Narayana, Executive Director of KTM North America, who provided a look at the service areas and race shops for all three brands, then over to the new property to see the cement walls tilted up and in place for three buildings under construction. ■

450 SUPERCROSS RIDERS: #1 – 450 Supercross Champion Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM). Cooper Webb was one of the most dominant 250 riders of all time. He claimed his second 250 Supercross West title and his first 250 National motocross title in 2016. Webb struggled a bit when he first moved up to the 450 class, but silenced all critics in 2019 when he joined KTM and started winning. He claimed his first premiere class Supercross Championship in 2019, and his second Supercross Championship in 2021 and is riding with the #1 plate in 2022. #25 – Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) is a threetime World Motocross Champion. racing in America for a while now and has won a lot of races; unfortunately, injuries have kept him from clinching a premier class Supercross title. For 2022 Marvin is healthy, healed and has a “Supercross-only” contract focusing all his efforts on the Supercross Series and championship. Marvin started strong with a fourth in the season opener. #7 – Aaron Plessinger (Red Bull KTM). Aaron, the 2018 250 West Supercross Champion is now a veteran of the 450 class and has garnered a few podiums along the way. He’ll be riding for KTM this season and the new ride has already garnered results. Aaron has already gotten the best finish of his 450 career so far with a second place finish at round two in Oakland, California. As his confidence grows, more top results should follow.

AMA SUPERCROSS PREVIEW 2 0 2 2 DEFENDING CHAMPS AND NEW TALENT

long with a new year comes the 2022 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. Hopeful for a return to normalcy, 2022 will be a full season with a return to some of the country’s favorite venues, including Anaheim Stadium for the season opener. THOR/Parts Unlimited will be sponsoring a full complement of racers including some defending champions. So, here’s the list of talented hopefuls and defending champions riding for Parts Unlimited in the Supercross Series that you’ll see clad in THOR racewear this season.
#14 – Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha). Yamaha’s Dylan Ferrandis had his first season on a 450 just last year. And what a year it was. Dylan used the Supercross series to get used to the big bike and all-star field of racers and he even garnered a 450 Supercross podium. Then, in the 2021 Pro Motocross Series, Dylan came out swinging, taking half a dozen overall victories and multiple podiums to win the 450cc Pro Motocross National Championship in his first year on a 450. Dylan will carry that momentum and confidence into the 2022 Supercross Series. #19 – Justin Bogle xxxx (Twisted Teaxxxx Suzuki) is xxxx newxxxto the xxxxxxx xxxx xxx xxxxxxx xxx xxxxxxx xxx xxxxxxx Twisted Tea Suzuki team for 2022. He’s been making it into the main events and has steadily moved up and should be breaking into the top ten soon. #41 – Brandon Hartranft (Twisted Tea Suzuki) moved up to the 450’s last season and had a solid year of racing in 2021 under the Twisted Tea Suzuki tent and anticipates greater success in 2022. 250 SX RIDERS: #1e, #45 – Colt Nichols (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) earned three consecutive 250SX main event wins en route to his 2021 250SX East Region title, a title fans hoped he would defend in 2022. However, the team opted that he ride the 250SX West Series where he had a solid chance of winning as well. He raced the Anaheim opener where he had a bad crash, injuring both arms and is likely out for the season.

Hopefully, we’ll see him return for the Motocross Nationals. #28 – Christian Craig (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) won two 250SX main events in 2021 and was battling teammate Colt Nichols for the 250SX East title until a leg injury at the penultimate round ended his championship hopes. For 2022, Craig is riding in the 250 SX West Series and as of this writing is leading the points after winning twice at Anaheim as well as in Oakland. He put in a heroic ride at San Diego after a first turn crash in the main had him get up in last place, charge through the field, to take third by the checkered flag. He currently holds the red plate as he leads the 250 SX West Series.

#59 – Levi Kitchen (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) turned pro with the team during the 2021 Pro Motocross season, where he earned three top-ten overall finishes. He suffered a shoulder injury in mid-November but is expected to be fully healthy for his debut Supercross season in the 250SX East Region.
That is your Parts Unlimited/THOR Supercross line-up for 2022. Some of these riders are already winning races, getting podiums and leading their series. But it’s a long season and anything can happen. You can bet that this talented lineup of riders will be in the hunt for every win in 2022. ■

#49 – Nate Thrasher (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) is just getting his Supercross career started and has won two 250SX Main events in 2021. He returns to the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team for his second AMA Supercross season in 2022.

Cooper Webb not only require top performing gear when they’re laying down mind-blowing laps, but they also play an important role in helping THOR designers fine tune what a racer needs from their gear.
For 2022, THOR’s Prime racewear is back in a wide array of eye-catching colorways and styles.
The result of this cumulative professional input and design is evident in THOR’s Prime jersey and pant kits. Prime jerseys are designed to deliver a hybrid fit with set-in style tailored sleeves. They’re constructed of four-way stretch polyester/ spandex blend fabric for an unobstructed range of motion in the arms while riding. The sleeves and torso also feature laser-cut perforation to maximize ventilation, which work in conjunction with the moisture wicking material. To help maximize durability, Pulse pants are also constructed with 600D fabric in high-wear zones and durable nylon in the saddle. Kurt Caselli (1983-2013) was one of the greatest off-road racers America ever produced. Family, friends, fans and supporters formed the Kurt Caselli Foundation in his honor.
K
urt Caselli will always be remembered as one of the greatest American off-road racers.
This multi-time champion in the Hare and Hound Series and the WORCS series also won stages of the Dakar Rally, and won multiple Gold Medals at the International Six Days Enduro and captained the USA Trophy Team to several podium finishes. More than just a great rider, Caselli helped his fellow racers, giving parts and even bikes to riders who needed help and giving assistance to injured riders. Sadly, on November 15, 2013, Kurt Caselli crashed and lost his life while leading the Baja 1000, just a few miles from the finish. To honor his memory, the Kurt Caselli Foundation was formed with the mission of protecting and supporting the lives of off-road riders and racers by focusing on their safety, before, during and after their racing careers. Parts Magazine had the opportunity to attend the 9th Annual Kurt Caselli Ride Day in early December in Pala, California. This annual event pays tribute to Caselli, and helps raise awareness and raise funds for

the nonprofit organization, the Kurt Caselli Foundation (KCF). The foundation is dedicated to establishing rider safety initiatives and projects aimed at protecting and supporting the lives of off-road riders. “Each year we dedicate $150,000 towards our safety mission, and we continue to work with some of the top series and district races in the nation,” said Lindsey Mashchak, the foundation’s Director of Operations. “In 2021, we focused on donating Sweep/Medical UTVs, providing more than $10,000 in PCI radio communications, and continued to [supply] medical safety packs for everyday riders, as well as full medic/sweep teams to wear at events.” The organization also supplies many off-road motorcycle race series/one-off events with KC66 course marking supplies, Mashchak added. The day of riding at one of the best tracks in southern California included several well-groomed tracks, such as the Vet track and Mini-track, and a special off-road loop. Following a morning of ripping, the afternoon’s events were kicked off in a giant group lap of honor for Kurt. The day’s raffle included the chance to win a 2021

As part of a new feature of the annual event, the KCF and the United States Motorcycle Coaching Association (USMCA) partnered to offer free beginner skills classes with USMCA Certified Coaches throughout the day. The day also included a Team Challenge with an ISDE-type Special Test course in honor of Kurt. Kicking off the afternoon session, participants joined in a giant group ride in honor of Caselli.
Kurt's mother Nancy Caselli and sister Carolyn Caselli announced the scholarship winners. Carolyn is a teacher and encouraging the pursuit of higher education is an important part of the Kurt Caselli Foundation.
The Foundation Scholarship application for the fall 2022 semester is now open, and students may apply at www.kurtcaselli.com/scholarship. For a full rundown of the foundation’s ongoing projects, visit www.kurtcaselli.com/programs. For series/ races in need of support, requests can be submitted at www.kurtcaselli.com/safety-inquiries.
In addition to its safety efforts, the foundation also has a special focus of encouraging riders to pursue higher education, and several scholarship checks were handed out to deserving rider/students. At the end of the day, when it was all added up – including gate fees, the raffle, the silent auction, food, drinks, vendors, sponsors, KCF merchandise, donations, and the bike giveaway – the 9th Annual Kurt Caselli Ride Day raised nearly $44,000 to continue to fulfill the group’s mission of protecting and supporting the lives of off-road riders. “The Kurt Caselli Foundation continues to strive to protect and support the lives of off-road riders,” Mashchak said. “Each year this team sets a goal on how we can best help the off-road community, and with the support of the community, we have raised over $1.7 million dollars and have spent over $800,000 on our safety mission alone since late 2013.” ■
Three recipients were awarded the spring 2022 Scholarship on site at the ride day. Pictured from left are Eric Yorba, Grant Kawell and Mitchell Owenby. The Kurt Caselli Scholarship awards gifts of $2,500 to current or former racers who are currently enrolled in institutions of higher learning, or will be enrolling in the upcoming term. The foundation looks for applicants who embody perseverance, integrity, generosity, commitment, humility, and professionalism – character traits that Kurt Caselli exemplified on and off the motorcycle.

RIDER PROTECTION
Full Coverage
Rider Armor Options Moose Racing offers a range of gear designed specifically to shield an off-road rider from the hazards of the track or trail. With various coverage options and even youth styles for the younger riders, Moose Racing has a lot of options available. And while rider armor may not be as flashy as things like jerseys and helmets, with bold designs and lots of color choices, it really is the unsung hero of off-road gear.
XCR Guard jersey and vest
W
hen it comes to off-road racewear, the best defense is usually hiding under the surface. Impact protectors and other barriers between a rider and the ground – and anything else one might run into during a tumble – are the things riders may not want to put to the test, but it’s important to have them, just in case. And, let’s be honest, most of us are going to put our gear to the test, probably more often than we’re willing to admit.

Among the options from Moose Racing are the new XCR Guard vest and jersey. The XCR Guard jersey is the long-sleeved, fullcoverage option, with impact protectors in the back, chest, elbows and shoulders. The vest option has back and chest impact protectors. For both the jersey and the vest, the impact protectors are removable to make the garments easy to wash. The breathable stretch mesh chassis fits easily under a jersey, and it lets air continue to flow over a rider’s skin. Rider armor doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort or movement. Another comfort perk of the XCR Guard vest and jersey are flat-stitched seams and out-seam construction, which keeps the material smooth on the inside, where it counts. To further enhance movement, the XCR Guard jersey includes a mesh panel on the interior elbows to ensure a flexible, non-binding fit even in a riding stance. There is also a full-length zipper for easy entry. The XCR Guard vest has been a popular seller since its debut, and Moose Racing is pleased to announce it is in stock once again. In addition to the chest and back impact protectors, the vest also has molded compression foam on the chest for an extra layer of cushioning.

While the XCR Guard jersey and vest keep a rider’s upper body well defended, Moose Racing has the XC1 Guard shorts and pants to cover the rest. Both pieces are made of a four-way stretch nylon/ spandex fabric. The design and the fabric combine to offer supportive compression and easy movement. At the same time, the fabric is highly breathable and dries quickly to keep a rider cool and comfortable. Flat-stitched seams amp up the comfort level, too.
MOOSE RACING
Another new product from Moose Racing is the Youth Agroid Chest Guard. The popular Agroid racewear line already includes a youth version of the jersey and pant, and now younger riders can add the Agroid chest guard to their gear, too. The chest guard includes a built-in back protector, and both the chest and back panels can be set to just the right fit with adjustable shoulder and waist straps. When it’s time to take the chest guard off, the easy-release buckles allow for a quick exit while retaining the strap settings. Design touches that add comfort include a molded foam liner on the interior plus ventilation ports to channel air to the rider’s body.
Youth Agroid Chest Guard
The flexible D3O padding in the front, thigh, hip and tailbone areas packs a big punch while maintaining a low profile. Between the slim padding and the fabric choice, the XC1 Guard shorts and pants both fit easily under a rider’s racewear. Riders who want maximum coverage for their knees will want to opt for the Moose Racing Synapse HD knee guard. The plastic and molded EVA impactresistant foam combine to guard the knee as well as part of both the upper and lower legs. Adjustable straps tailor the fit, and like the XCR Guard pants and shorts, the Synapse HD knee guards will slide on under pants. The Synapse Lite knee protector is the option for riders who want an extra barrier for their knees but in a more minimalist style. These lightweight knee protectors provide additional padding on the top of the knee. Like their more robust counterparts, the Synapse Lite knee protectors slide on under pants and have adjustable hook-and-loop straps. They are also available in youth sizing. ■

TIRES
From Supercross to Sales A Tire for Pros and Customers Alike
Check out the lineup during the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross Championship and you’ll be sure to see plenty of Pirelli’s Scorpion MX 32 Mid-soft and Mid-hard tires mounted up and ready for action.
A
t several of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship rounds last season, more than half of the main event riders were on Pirelli Scorpion MX tires. It was proof that Pirelli’s presence has been increasing each season, and the 2022 Supercross Championship will feature a number of Pirellisupported teams. Each of those teams will be utilizing the Pirelli Scorpion MX 32 Mid-soft and Mid-hard tires, which are the same ones that customers can buy from Parts Unlimited. By racing on what they sell, Pirelli is able to put its product on both the podium and the sales floor. The tires customers can purchase are exactly the same as the ones used by the top teams in the U.S. For dealers, that means the weekend’s race results are the best possible sales tool. The Pirelli race transporter will be at each of the 17 rounds in 2022, just as it was last year. The Pirelli trackside team will provide support and assistance for all of the riders who are competing on the Scorpion MX tires. The Pirelli riders in the Supercross series will rely almost exclusively on the Scorpion MX 32 Mid-soft and Scorpion MX 32 Mid-hard tires. The soil at each round will determine whether it’s one or the other, or a combination of both. Front and rear tires can be mixed and matched, though Pirelli reports that Mid-soft tires all around is the preferred choice on most weekends. The Scorpion MX 32 Mid-soft combines performance with excellent durability. The directional front design offers maximum braking performance and cornering side grip, while mid-shoulder lugs provide better traction in softer terrain. The tire improves steering over softer terrain, too.

The tires that each of those Supercross teams are using are the exact same ones available to your customer through Parts Unlimited, which means this weekend’s race results are a great sales tool.
The Scorpion MX 32 Mid-hard tire was engineered for the world’s top motocross riders, including World FIM, AMA Motocross and AMA Supercross. The dense knob layout maximizes cornering grip and traction while still providing remarkable durability and resistance to punctures. Of course, the weather is always a factor in tire choice. In the event of a rain or mud race, Pirelli riders turn to the Scorpion MX Soft rear tire to give them the traction they need. Developed in cooperation with key riders and teams in the FIM Motocross World Championship, the Scorpion MX Soft tires feature tall, thick knobs that combine stability as well as self-cleaning. For the 2022 season, Pirelli is supporting an impressive number of teams vying for the Supercross championship. Among them are AJE Motorsports Husqvarna, Club MX Yamaha with standouts Garrett Marchbanks and Dominique Thury, Carson Mumford and the BarX Motorsports Suzuki team, Firepower Honda, PRMX Racing, and Phoenix Racing Honda. Pirelli is also proud to support privateers in their Supercross endeavors. ■

rom professional elite teams to the weekend warriors, racers and riders rely on RK and Excel’s unquestionable strength, reliability and quality.
EXCEL PROFESSIONAL RACING - A60 RIMS
Here are a few of the company’s popular products.
RK MXZ4 SERIES NON-SEAL PRO RACING CHAINS RK’s MXZ4 series chains are made for the serious Supercross and motocross racer. MXZ4 chains feature chromoly steel construction with seamless rollers and bushing. RK’s Chromized pins improve the wear resistance compared to normal, non-sealed chains, while also absorbing shock loads from extreme jumps.
A60 rims
Excel’s flagship rim is the Excel A60 Rim, which was developed specifically for professional Supercross and motocross racing. Excel A60 Rims are structurally 15 percent stronger than current Excel Takasago Rims, and feature a V-Curve profile to help mud slide off, helping reduce rotating wheel mass.
The 520MXZ4 has a maximum tensile strength rated at 8,000 ft-lb and is suitable for professional level 125cc to 500cc class racing. MXZ4 technology is also available in 420 and 428 mini bike pitch sizes.
The A60 is only available in black, and is characterized by a metallic silver pin stripe on both sides of the rim. Excel A60’s are available in a range of sizes and can be laced to both stock and aftermarket hubs. A60 rims are used by 8 times GNCC champion Kailub Russell of FMF KTM Factory Racing off-road.
RK 520MXU SEALED
EXCEL RACING RIMS – TAKASAGO RIMS
MXZ4 chains
Takasago rims
When conditions turn muddy, sandy, wet, or if riders just want a chain that provides consistent horsepower delivery from the start of a race to the end, RK offers a sealed chain called MXU. The chain is perfect for Supercross, motocross and off-road racing. RK’s GB520MXU features ultra-thin UW-seals that are perfect for bikes with narrow clearance, and it delivers triple the life expectancy when compared to a non-sealed chain. RK’s UW-Ring seals utilize triple barrier grease protection plus anti-debris technology. Anti-debris protection is vitally important to maximize chain wear life by eliminating friction between internal components. RK’s UW seals also feature small contact points to reduce cold start drag. The UW ring thickness is 50 percent thinner, and will have 65 percent less friction than O-ring chains. The GB520MXU has a maximum tensile strength of 8,000 ft-lb and weighs about 3 pounds per 100 links making the MXU very lightweight.
Excel’s Takasago Series Rims are also suitable for Supercross and motocross racing, and are constructed from 7 series aluminum alloy that meets or exceeds OEM quality specifications. Unlike Excel A60, Excel Takasago rims are available in a wider range of colors and sizes.
Rim colors include Black, Gold, Silver, Blue and Yellow. Takasago Rim width and diameter availability ranges from mini bikes to Adventure bikes and even include Supermoto sizes. Excel Takasago rims can be laced to both stock and aftermarket hubs. Excel Takasago Rims are used by 2021 450 MX Champion Dylan Ferrandis of Star Racing Yamaha. ■ *Please Note – Not all colors are available for all sizes.

TIRES
Unconventional Classics Forging a Path for Vintage Racing
Avon’s AM22 tire is a race-compound tire that offers excellent grip and is available in six tire sizes.
I
t’s been a long, strange trip for Team Obsolete. When Rob Iannucci started his team in the late-1970s, vintage racing just didn’t exist in the United States. That didn’t stop him, though, from collecting a couple of 1960s Matchless G50s with a dream of keeping the classic bikes on the track instead of inside a museum. Early on, Avon Tyres got involved as Team Obsolete’s tire sponsor and supplier, often working hand-in-hand with the team to develop tires designed for the needs of vintage bikes. Iannucci said, “They tried different compounds and different tread designs, so we always felt they took us seriously.” Avon had some prior experience, actually, having built tires for most of those motorcycles back when they were new. Since no one else was hosting vintage racing, Team Obsolete started organizing its own vintage races inside other sanctioning bodies. The response from racers was immediate and enthusiastic, and grid sizes grew quickly. When Iannucci approached the AMA about creating a vintage class at Daytona, he was told old bikes should stick to parade laps. Undaunted, Iannucci entered some of his classic bikes in regular amateur classes at Daytona from 1978 to 1980, then approached the AMA again. “When I started negotiations with the AMA in ’81, I gave them a list of bikes that had successfully competed right under their noses!” Iannucci recalls. “They completed their events, they didn’t dump oil, and so they relented. We had the first race at Daytona in 1981.”

More vintage races followed at other AMA events, but it soon became clear vintage racing needed its own organization. Iannucci helped found a brand-new sanctioning body for old bikes, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association. The real showstopper of vintage racing became the 500 Premiere class, where storied 500cc Grand Prix bikes were on display for fans to see, and hear, once again. The class was also popular with racers, and there were often more bikes than spots on the grid. By the mid-1980s, Iannucci was ready to take Team Obsolete international. It was while racing at iconic British tracks that Team Obsolete and Avon Tyres representatives first crossed paths. Recognizing how seriously Avon Tyres took tire development for classic bikes, Team Obsolete made the switch. “When we started using Avon, it was a game changer. Crashes went down, and speeds went up. I think a lot of people followed our lead,” Iannucci says. In 1984, Dave Roper rode a Team Obsolete Matchless G50 to victory in the Historic 500cc race for vintage motorcycles at the Isle of Man TT. He became the first and still only American to win a race at that legendary event. In the many years since its founding, Team Obsolete has competed in more than 1,800 races, and amassed a worldwide list of victories. Avon Tyres has been there nearly the entire time, giving Team Obsolete modern tire technology built for the fastest vintage bikes in the world. ■

otoAmerica begins its eighth season of racing with a kickoff weekend of racing at the iconic Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, in March, and concludes the series 10 races later at Barber Motorsports Park in September. In between, the series will crisscross the country showcasing the six mainstay racing classes of the Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship while welcoming a few others along the way. For the first time, MotoAmerica, in conjunction with the Speedway, will run the proceedings at Daytona with what will be the 80th running of the famed Daytona 200. MotoAmerica’s Supersport class will be the headliner in Florida with the multi-brand class racing for victory in the 200. The Mission King Of The Baggers will also take to the track at Daytona. Not once, but twice with a doubleheader slated to open their championship season. MotoAmerica will also run two of its Twins Cup races to further bolster the lineup of support classes for Bike Week. Roland Sands adds even more, as he brings his Hooligans racing class to the high banks of Daytona. Following MotoAmerica’s debut at Daytona will be a trek to Austin where the MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike Series kicks off as a support race to the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas at Circuit of the Americas, April 8-10. COTA is where the premier riders, teams and motorcycles will make their debut with two races to kick off the Medallia Superbike Series.

Everything comes together April 22-24 in Georgia when the Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship Series showcases all six of its mainstay classes on the track at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. That means Medallia Superbikes, Supersport, Stock 1000, Twins Cup, SportbikeTrackGear.com Junior Cup and Mission King Of The Baggers (with further sponsorship from Drag Specialties) will all be together for the first time in the 2022 season. The only class missing from the lineup at Road Atlanta will be the young up-and-coming road racers taking part in the 2022 Mini Cup By Motul Series, which makes its 2022 debut at Road America, June 3-5. Last year saw the debut of the all-women Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. Program, and it was a rousing success. That class will be back for a bigger field, with the addition of new racers joining a few of the incumbents as the series resumes at selected events in the 2022 Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship. The 2022 Auto Parts 4 Less MotoAmerica Championship promises even more excitement than the 2021 season as Jake Gagne defends his Medallia Superbike Championship from the likes of his new Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha teammate Cameron Petersen. He’ll also go up against – if the rumors are true – Italian legend and twotime MotoGP race winner Danillo Petrucci, who is slated to join the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati NYC team for the 2022 MotoAmerica season. ■

A
lpinestars’ range of rider protection systems sets a high standard for performance. It draws from rider feedback from racing at the very highest levels of motocross, Supercross, MXGP and EnduroGP. The A-6 Chest Protector typifies this approach. Designed to handle vigorous off-roading, the versatile and lightweight A-6 Chest Protector incorporates well ventilated Level 2 Cell technology protectors on the chest, back and removable flexible Level 1 protectors on the shoulders. The chest and back protector plastic shells are constructed from a high-performance material blend for optimized flexibility and excellent weight saving properties. The plastic shells feature extensive, strategically positioned perforation zones for excellent breathability and ventilation. It’s comfortable too, thanks to the flexible protector plates, soft extensively perforated soft thermoformed bio foam interior padding, and padded side wings. The flexible front side wings connect to the main chest protector with three bridge fixings that allow the wings to move independently and adapt to the natural contours of the body.
The Alpinestars A-6 Chest Protector is designed to provide excellent off-road protection while remaining lightweight, flexible and well-ventilated.
Other thoughtful design features include an adjustable quick release waist system that ensures a customized fit, while keeping the protection securely in position and close to the body at all times. There’s also a removable back puck for compatibility with the Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support (BNS), a silicon BNS pull tab for convenient and safe engagement of the BNS, and removable shoulder protectors. The removable shoulder protectors enhance the versatility and functionality of the A-6 Chest Protector and allow the protection to be worn in various configurations, giving the rider the opportunity to tailor the protector to the conditions for real-world practicality. Performance CVT Belts for ATVs and UTVs
The G-Force Redline belt is designed for ATVs and UTVs with an engine displacement of at least 800cc. It’s an ideal CVT belt for racers and riders who like to push the limits of what’s possible.
The G-Force Redline belt features a revolutionary Ethylene Elastomer compound, and can withstand extreme friction, severe compressive force and excessive heat.
B
ack in the 1990s, Gates set out to develop a highperformance CVT belt that could stand up to the demands of recreational vehicles. It wasn’t until 2011 that the first G-Force CVT belt would hit the market, the result of years of hard work, research and testing. While G-Force is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, parent company Gates is celebrating an even bigger milestone, having been in business for more than 110 years. Today, G-Force is a respected name in belt technology. Two years after the successful launch of the G-Force belt, the G-Force C12 belt followed. While the original belt had aramid cords, the C12 featured carbon fiber tensile cords. In 2019, Gates set a new bar by introducing the G-Force Redline belt, which was designed with a high-tech Ethylene Elastomer compound and provides both greater heat resistance and longer life. The G-Force Redline belt is the top-tier belt in the lineup, designed for ATVs and UTVs with an engine displacement of at least 800cc. It is suitable for stock set-ups, as well as heavily modified vehicles. Thanks in large part to the revolutionary Ethylene Elastomer compound, the Redline belt can withstand extreme friction, severe compressive force and the excessive heat that results from heavy loads and aggressive riding. In other words, it’s an ideal CVT belt for racers and riders who like to push the limits of what’s possible. G-Force Redline belts are designed to give ATVs and UTVs better acceleration and higher top speeds even in extreme environments, but it’s not just about speed. They can also last up to three times longer than OEM belts. Beginning with the 2015 MINT 400, G-Force Redline belts have been represented on the podium at King of the Hammers, Lucas Oil Off Road Race, Mid America Outdoors

The G-Force C12 belt gives engines up to 799cc a performance boost thanks to the carbon tensile cord, which results in minimal stretch and outstanding strength. The G-Force C12 belt also has excellent heat control and provides improved throttle response and acceleration. Engines maintain peak power throughout the shift curve for even more of a performance advantage. The original G-Force CVT belt provides performance and durability for everyday work and recreational riding. The flexible, high-performance materials provide responsive acceleration as well as extended life. For Gates, putting out a quality product is just one step of the process. The other is helping dealers and customers alike properly install and break in a new belt. Gates has a simple, step-by-step guide at www.gates.com/breakitin to help do just that, making the process clear and easy to follow. Gates also makes it easy for dealers to pair the right GForce belt with the right vehicle via an application chart that is straightforward and easy to read at a glance. Dealers can see which belt is ideal based on the vehicle’s engine size and whether it is stock or heavily modified. ■

Off-Road Clutch Performance
Billet Pressure Plates
Barnett recommends installing its new Heavy Duty KTM Belleville clutch spring along with a Dirt Digger clutch plate kit to ensure maximum performance for select 2021-2022 KTM 450 and 500 models.
P
erformance doesn’t have to be complicated. Barnett clutch components for off-road motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs are designed to be direct-fit replacements that make upgrading from stock a no-hassle operation. While clutch performance is vital, so is longevity, which is why Barnett combines cutting-edge design and top materials to give riders the peace of mind they need, whether it’s on the race track or the trail. Barnett has been in business since 1948, making products in the USA that have helped racers get wins the world over. One of the ways racers get to the top is with the Barnett Dirt Digger clutch kit. This high-performance clutch kit features clutch plates made with Barnett’s exclusive carbon fiber or Kevlar materials, tempered steel
drive plates and heavy-duty springs. The end result is a clutch that produces stronger, more positive engagement for that controlled feel off-road riders need. The design also increases the oil flow to the clutch, so the whole operation runs smoother and cooler. That, of course, boosts the Dirt Digger’s lifespan. Barnett has a wide variety of applications available for the Dirt Digger clutch kit, including ones for bikes, ATVs and UTVs. Riders on select 2012-2022 KTM 450 and 500 models can take things up a notch with the Barnett Heavy Duty KTM Belleville clutch spring. Barnett recommends installing the spring along with a Dirt Digger clutch plate kit to ensure maximum performance. The Belleville spring is made of a high-carbon spring steel, which is then heat treated to produce a spring that is 15 percent stiffer than stock. Barnett’s patented billet clutch baskets are CNC-machined from durable billet aluminum paired with replaceable stainless-steel inserts to prevent grooving on the basket. The oil passage windows are designed to increase oil flow, which lengthens the life of the clutch thanks to the cooler operating temperatures. The billet clutch baskets will fit a range of 80cc and larger off-road motorcycles as well as sport ATVs. While all of Barnett’s off-road clutch components are designed to be long lasting, perhaps no product does that better than the billet pressure plates. Like the billet clutch baskets, the pressure plates are CNC-machined from billet aluminum. From there, Barnett attaches a tempered steel surface. The company is so confident in this construction method that the plates are guaranteed to never wear out. Not only does the steel surface add durability, but it also optimizes heat dissipation. ■

The Radial Advantage A Commitment to Performance
rugged and durable radial design, with flexible-yet-tough sidewalls that help the M1 Evil conform to whatever terrain it rolls over. In a sense, the M1 Evil is the ultimate do-it-all tire, and that versatility has made it a big seller in AMS’s lineup. A rising star in the ATV world is the M2 Evil, the follow-up to the legendary M1 Evil. As with the original M1, this new model is built on a totally modern radial chassis that balances flexibility and compliance with high-speed stability. This tire is also DOT rated for regions that allow road use. The M2 Evil’s claim to fame is a 10 percent lighter weight by way of a new tread design and a tweak to the tread depth. The fact that the M2 Evil is also more affordable just sweetens the deal.
The M2 Evil features a totally modern radial chassis that balances flexibility and compliance with high-speed stability.

ust as fuel injection has supplanted carburetors in most ATVs, and automatic CVTs are now more common than manual transmissions, radial tires have replaced bias-ply technology. And for good reason. Radial tires offer a host of advantages including a softer ride, better traction, and less vibration, among other things. That’s why AMS is committed to building its ATV tires using radial carcass construction, with popular models like the M1, M2, and M4 Evil as well as the Radial Pro available to meet all your customers’ needs. If riders are looking for a durable, multi-purpose utility tire that is DOT rated for limited road use, the original M1 Evil is an easy choice. ATV riders love the M1 Evil’s unidirectional truck-like tread pattern, and equal land/sea ratio that offers excellent handling and smooth rolling. They also love its
Whether your customers are rolling down the street at speed, drifting through the dirt, or crawling over rocks, the M4 Evil has them covered. This tire’s radial carcass is sheathed in medium-height tread with dual center knobs to provide a vibration-free and sure-footed ride. The M4 Evil features a reinforced sidewall and deep rim guard for maximum durability on your customers’ vehicles. Just like the other tires in the Evil lineup, the M4 Evil is DOT approved for limited road use so your customers can get to the trailhead or into town. As the name suggests, AMS’s Radial Pro harnesses the technical advantage of a radial carcass construction to support modern high-performance ATVs. The Radial Pro is a smooth-rolling, long-wearing, multi-surface tire that’s a terrific choice for any condition. Offered in an 8-ply design, the Radial Pro is seriously tough and built to support the weight and power of full-size vehicles. DOTrated for states and counties that allow highway travel, the Radial Pro is available in a huge range of sizes to fit nearly any vehicle. ■

Staying Power
The Popularity of a Crossover Helmet
I
CON’s Variant helmet hit the streets back in the spring of 2010. At the time, it was marketed as an “Urban Assault Helmet.” A street helmet with an off-road helmet vibe, the ICON team had its sights on aggressive street and Supermoto riders. Riders in those two segments loved the helmet thanks in part to its distinct style, but they weren’t the only ones. Adventure riders started showing up at events in the Variant helmet, too, and ICON realized the style had a much broader appeal than anyone had anticipated. Now, more than a decade later, the ICON Variant helmet has become a staple of the brand’s helmet lineup and a definite fan favorite. Through the years, of course, the helmet has been updated and refined, and these days it goes by the name of Variant Pro. The Variant Pro, which debuted in 2019, shares the same great look of the original, but with a stronger, lighter, more modern makeup. ICON refined the fiberglass/Dyneema/ carbon matrix shell in a wind tunnel to come up with a design that has a performance edge as well as reduced bulk. The dual-density EPS liner amps up the helmet’s defenses without fattening up the great profile. ICON incorporated deep channels through the EPS liner to link the eight air intakes and two exhaust ports, ensuring riders get plenty of airflow. Of course, the built-in visor is the distinct feature on the ICON Variant Pro. In addition to giving the helmet its signature look, it also helps block sunlight so riders get a better view of the road ahead – whether or not it’s paved. The Variant Pro shield also maximizes visibility, with a design that increases peripheral vision and provides a distortion-free line of sight. The visor is also fog-free, and the tool-less visor change system lets riders easily swap one level of tint for another. Inside, the Variant Pro features a five-piece Hydradry liner instead of the standard three. Riders can mix and match pieces for a perfect fit, and in all, there are 27 possible combinations. The Hydradry material helps wick away moisture, and it can be cleaned when things need freshening up. When it comes to colors and graphics, ICON threw the rulebook out the window. The Variant Pro is available in two graphics options, Willy Pete and Bug Chucker, but the solid-color choices are arguably just as interesting. The Construct finish looks like a solid color at a glance, but a closer look shows it’s the bare composite shell showing through a clear Rubatone finish. The Ghost Carbon finish gives the look of carbon fiber throughout the shell.

The resulting MICHELIN Road 6 tire gives a wide range of sport, sport-touring and Adventure-Touring motorcycles improved wet grip, longevity and even looks. In addition to the MICHELIN Road 6 range for standard bikes, the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tire range is built with larger, heavier touring motorcycles in mind. The MICHELIN Road 6 tire is available in six front and eight rear sizes, and the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tire is available in one front and three rear sizes. The GT version is especially ideal for bikes that are fully loaded with luggage and a passenger. By offering these two tire options, the MICHELIN Road 6 range can accommodate everything from the KTM 390 all the way up to a BMW K1600 GT/GTL. With this new addition to the Michelin lineup, the brand now offers three generations of product for Sport Touring – including the MICHELIN Pilot Road 4, MICHELIN Road 5 and MICHELIN Road 6 – and two generations of tire for GT-class motorcycles, the MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 GT and MICHELIN Road 6 GT. In addition to bringing together technologies from all over the world, the MICHELIN Road 6 also brings together

decades of development across many different industries. In addition to all of the innovation from its motorcycle tires, Michelin is able to draw on technologies developed for use in passenger cars, agriculture, mining, aircraft and other industries. Increased wet grip is a huge draw for riders who want confidence in all weather conditions. Thanks to 100 percent MICHELIN Silica Technology tread compounds and a new tread pattern featuring MICHELIN Water Evergrip Technology, Michelin reports that the MICHELIN Road 6 has 15 percent more grip in wet conditions than its predecessor. The silica content provides an optimal level of chemical grip, which is especially beneficial in cooler temperatures and on wet roads. Dealers are likely familiar with MICHELIN Water Evergrip Technology, even if the name is new. Michelin designed the MICHELIN Road 6 tires with its innovative 3D sipes, which evolve over time. As the miles add up and the tread wears down, the sipes get wider to maintain the groove ratio. This allows the MICHELIN Road 6 tire to evacuate water efficiently throughout its service life. In addition to the sipes, the tread also features MICHELIN Adaptive Design. The tread pattern is carefully engineered based on the ride angle of the tire. The number, shape, depth and distribution of tread grooves and sipes are all precisely designed for maximum traction and lean angle predictability.

MICHELIN
The result of these updated tread technologies is that the MICHELIN Road 6 tire has a 10 percent longer tread life compared to the previous generation. MICHELIN 2CT+ Technology is already a popular design feature of many Michelin rear tires, but with the MICHELIN Road 6, the technology has been applied to the front tire, too. MICHELIN 2CT+ Technology features a more durable rubber in the center of the tread as well as underneath the softer-compound shoulders. That structure offers better rigidity at lean and more stability when cornering on MICHELIN Road 6 tires. Michelin knows the riders in the segments the MICHELIN Road 6 is built for appreciate a tire with outstanding feedback and handling. This is achieved in part with MICHELIN Amplified Density Technology, a highly dense, rigid tire casing that is paired with Aramid tread plies for reduced weight and improved stability. The finishing touch on the MICHELIN Road 6 tire range is MICHELIN Premium Touch Design. Originally created for ultrahigh-performance sports car tires, this textured finish creates a velour effect to give the outer sidewall a distinct look. Michelin takes pride in supporting dealers with training and sales tools, and the brand has provided both for the MICHELIN Road 6 tire. Not only is there an online product training course, but Michelin is also offering a reward for assessment scores above 80 percent. Dealers can access the course at www.michelin-training.net/motorcycle.
There are two models of the new MICHELIN Road 6. One version is for standard bikes, and the MICHELIN Road 6 GT tire range is built with larger, heavier touring motorcycles in mind.
Parts Unlimited sales reps have new Point of Sale material on hand, including a MICHELIN Road 6 tire counter mat and sport-touring brochure. Both are also available for ordering via Michelin’s Dealer Asset Site. ■

ATV and UTV Sound Bars
Moose Racing soundbars are available in three different lengths, and feature marine-grade protection.
The sound bars have built-in Bluetooth, so it’s easy to stream audio, but there is also a 3.5mm stereo auxiliary input jack connecting the old-fashioned way.
Each sound bar is made from a heavyduty extruded aluminum chassis with a perforated steel grille. Not only does this help guard against the weather, but it also handles the bumps with ease. All of the wiring connections and mounting points are sealed. Taken altogether, these measures have earned the sound bars an IPX68 weatherproof rating.
Weatherproofing is essential, but sound is even more important. The integrated amplifier on each sound bar is designed specifically for powersports applications, and it can deliver as much as 30 percent more SPL than standard amplifier technology. That boost helps music to be heard clearly over the usual noise of a powersports vehicle.
M
oose Utility Division makes products that help ATV and UTV owners get things done, but that doesn’t mean it should be all work and no play. By partnering with sister company Moose Racing, utility vehicles become recreational vehicles, too. Moose Racing sound bars really highlight this “best of both worlds” approach. The sound bars come in three sizes, including a 21-inch bar with six speakers, a 27-inch, eight-speaker bar and a massive 34-inch, 10-speaker bar. The different sizes vastly increase the potential applications, so these sound bars can be used on a lot more than simply ATVs and UTVs. Golf carts? Boats? Sure, no problem. And if you’re wondering about that boat part, the Moose Racing sound bars actually feature marine-grade protection. For ATV and UTV riders who like to seek out the wettest, muddiest spots, or simply ride no matter what the weather is, that’s good news.

The Moose Racing sound bars have built-in Bluetooth, so it’s easy to stream audio, but there is also a 3.5mm stereo auxiliary input jack for customers who want to connect the old-fashioned way. A built-in Memory Sync remembers the most recently connected device on startup, and the sound bar will try to automatically connect if the device is in range. In addition to the features that one would expect to find on a sound bar – like the power buttons and volume control – there is also a built-in LED map light, as well as LEDs above each speaker. Those speaker lights can be set to one of nine colors or cycle through all. The sound bars are designed to be compatible with surface or roll cage mounting. Each sound bar comes with the hardware necessary for both mounting styles. Each sound bar also comes with a 77-inch power harness and a 17-inch input-output harness. The wires are encased in heavy rubber and create a sealed attachment to the sound bar, so water and mud stay out. ■

Stiffer Springs for the CRF110F
W
hat brings Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, one of the world’s most talented freestyle motocross riders, and Legend Suspensions, one of America’s leading V-Twin aftermarket suspension manufacturers, together? A Honda CRF110F kid’s bike, of all things. It’s an unlikely matchup, but the result of the collaboration is a stiffer shock spring for the 2019-and-up CRF110F that lets big kids and adults that are still kids at heart have a lot more fun on two wheels. Got a customer with a 110? They can make it handle jumps and hard riding a lot better with one of these easy-to-install shock springs from Legend Suspensions. As with all of Legend Suspensions’ quality made-inAmerica springs, this CRF110F coil is wound from chrome-silicon steel, shot peened for strength, and powder coated black for an attractive finish. Offered in two
Legend Suspensions’ new CRF110F springs are offered in two rates, a Heavy-Duty spring recommended for riders weighing more than 200 pounds, and a Standard spring for riders weighing 200 pounds or less.
rates, the Heavy-Duty spring is roughly 75 percent stiffer than stock and recommended for riders weighing more than 200 pounds, while the Standard spring is more suitable for riders weighing 200 pounds or less. The springs are easy to install (and come with full instructions), retain the stock ride height, and offer much more support and resistance to bottoming. That’s all good stuff for your customers who like to rail on their 110s, but you may still be wondering how all this came about? Fair enough. Twitch, an icon in motocross and one of the originators of freestyle, is all about having fun. In one YouTube video he may be doing a no-footed backflip off a 10-foot ramp, and in the next he’s dragging the rear fender on his Dyna doing a 12 o’clock wheely, and in another he’s mobbing around his backyard mini track with friends on CRF110Fs.
SUSPENSION PRODUCTS
An Unlikely Matchup
“Whenever I’m on one of these 110s I feel like a kid again,” says the action-sports icon and X-Game gold medalist. However, he notes, getting older sometimes comes with adding on the pounds and with that combo, a better suspension is needed. That’s where Legend Suspensions came in. Legend equips all of Twitch’s street, stunt, and Hooligan flat track bikes with its AXEO fork kits and REVO ARC remote-reservoir shocks, so when Twitch mentioned how much he and his friends were bottoming out their 110s, Legend owner Jesse Jurrens saw an opportunity. “It’s our first foray out of the V-Twin world,” says Jurrens, “but we’re happy to help get a needed product to market, especially one that provides such a big improvement at a really affordable price point.” The CRF110F springs are not only affordable, they’re easy to install and offer enough support to permit full-size riders to really push the limits of the CRF110F without experiencing the impact of bottoming out. If you have customers with CRF110Fs in their fleet, or catch someone eyeing one of the bikes on your showroom floor, make sure they’re aware of this excellent suspension upgrade. ■

LUGGAGE
Ready for Anything
Waterproof Luggage That’s Up for Adventure Nelson-Rigg’s Hurricane Adventure luggage is 100 percent waterproof.
W
hatever the weather forecast says, Adventure riders are ready to go with the Rigg Gear Hurricane Adventure luggage collection. Nelson-Rigg gave the seven-piece collection a big update for the 2022 riding season, making it more versatile and rugged than ever. The Hurricane Adventure luggage is 100 percent waterproof, so riders can load up and hit the road or trail with absolute confidence that when they reach their destination, their gear will be dry. Rain, puddles and creek crossings are no problem for Hurricane luggage. The waterproofing is achieved with a UV-coated tarpaulin PVC that is assembled with electronically heat-welded
seams. Not only does water stay out, but so does dust and dirt. The gear’s two-tone gray and black designs amp up the style. Nelson-Rigg designed the Hurricane luggage to be convenient as well as durable. Some creative design elements on the pieces in the collection include an air purge valve to reduce bulk, and reflective accents. The bags mount up using the patented Rigg-Strap mounting system. This system also allows other, smaller pieces of gear or accessories to be attached to the outside of the luggage. The new and improved Hurricane Adventure luggage system includes a saddlebag set, a backpack/tail bag, 25-liter and 40-liter duffel bags, a 10-liter roll bag and the collection’s original pieces, two sizes Hurricane tank bags. One tank bag works well with typical dual-sport tanks, while the other is designed for larger Adventure tanks. Like all the Nelson Rigg & RiggGear luggage, the Hurricane collection comes with the company’s lifetime warranty. ■

ithout sufficient compression, an engine won’t run. That’s why a compression tester is an essential diagnostic tool that every professional shop and DIYer should have. With Motion Pro’s new compression tester kit, your techs and your customers will be able to quickly get a compression reading to help evaluate hard-starting or non-running 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. This latest kit features a new billet gauge manifold with a 0-300 PSI analog gauge and integrated pressure-release valve. Three hose adapters – in 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm sizes to fit most machines – attach to the gauge with a quick-disconnect fitting for easy installation and removal, and everything comes in a convenient nylon storage box. New brass hose ends are gentler on aluminum cylinder heads than steel fittings, and durable Nitrile O-rings ensure an air-tight fit at the spark plug hole for an accurate pressure reading with fewer engine cranks. A compression test is the quickest and easiest way to check the health of a cylinder’s piston-ring seal and valve seal,
Motion Pro’s new compression tester kit lets your techs and customers quickly get compression readings.
and it also allows you to compare readings on different cylinders to pinpoint problems. Without a compression tester, you’d be looking at a top-end disassembly and indepth inspection, or worse yet, guessing at the issue. Good mechanics work smarter, not harder, and Motion Pro’s new compression tester kit is definitely a smart buy. ■

Steel Chains for Every Riding Style ProX chains are manufactured in Japan from Japanese steel. The plates, bushings and rollers are all heat-treated for better longevity. Hardened pins and shot-peened rollers further increase a ProX chain’s strength and stress resistance. In all, a ProX chain gives a rider incredible durability and confidence.
ProX has a wide variety of 520 X-ring chains, with fitments for all vehicle types and riding styles.
N
o matter what riding style or bike size a rider prefers, they need a reliable chain, which is why ProX has such extensive chain options. Designed for a wide range of riding styles, ProX produces its 520 chains in two options, standard link and X-ring. Both are available in a standard or gold finish, which ProX says is the most popular choice for riders. Not only are a lot of different riding styles served by ProX chains, but a lot of bike sizes, too. In addition to the huge range of 520 chain variants available, ProX also has mini-bike chains in 420 and 428 sizes.
Of course, a ProX chain isn’t just about being tough. They are also designed for optimal weight to provide maximum performance without compromising longevity. Inner link plates even have lightening holes for additional weight savings. X-ring chains are especially known for their extreme service life, outlasting a standard-link OEM chain by 150 percent or more. This performance-minded O-ring shape results in less contact between the O-ring’s surface and the chain plates. Grease is still sealed in place, but the design reduces friction for smoother operation. ■

BRAKE ROTORS
Stopping at the Top
Brake Rotors with a Championship Pedigree
B
raking closed the 2021 racing season with 133 championships. It was the culmination of a worldwide effort to put EPTA brake rotors at the top of the podium in virtually every kind of motorcycle racing. Those same rotors are the ones customers can buy for their own stopping needs. Braking uses the race track as the ultimate test for its products, and the EPTA on-road and off-road rotors are no exception. The world’s top racers get cutting-edge braking technology while helping Braking continually improve products. Many of the championships that Braking teams earned last year were in off-road competition, particularly AMA Supercross and MXGP. Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing had a banner year: Dylan Ferrandis brought home the Pro Motocross 450MX championship, and Colt Nichols is the 2021 250SX Eastern Regional Champion. For the 2022 U.S. racing season, Braking will again support Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing as well as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team, Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit, and Muc-Off Honda America.
EPTA OVERSIZE KIT 270/280 mm
Braking has EPTA rotors for a range of on-road and offroad applications.
Italian-made EPTA rotors feature a braking track that provides optimal heat dissipation, ensuring a steady friction coefficient for predicable, consistent braking characteristics. The design of the disc accomplishes this by providing more controlled radial/axial movement so there is a better load transfer between the braking track and the carrier. The temperature of the disc remains consistent across the entire surface to eliminate any hot spots. The pin-free design eliminates potential pin deformation, too. ■

hen it’s time to get up and go most everyone in powersport wants to just get it on. Figuring out how they’re going to strap down their streetbike, dirtbike, motocross racer, ATV/ UTV, snowmobile or personal watercraft into the bed of a pickup or onto a trailer, though, can be a head scratcher. Finding that ‘just right’ place to position the tie-downs without any worries isn’t always easy or fast. PSR-USA has some slick answers here with their BTC Bike Tie-Down Clamps. One style is designed to clamp onto handlebars, engine guards or roll cages. The other is designed to provide anchoring points on dirtbikes with
inverted-style forks. Both can have any piece of motosport equipment securely locked-down and ready for the road in no time flat. The Universal BTC is machined from forged aluminum and anodized with a gunmetal finish. The clamps feature heavy duty springs and stainless hardware, and they’ll slip right over any handlebar, even fat 1½inch custom ones. Anti-slip/scratch-protective rubber liners keep them in place without any damage to chrome, powder coated or anodized finishes. Large openings accommodate single or double tie-down hooks. The fork-mount BTCs for most motocross machines with inverted forks are also CNC machined from forged aluminum and feature that anodized gunmetal finish. The heavy-duty springs, stainless hardware and protective rubber inserts are here, as well, and the clamps measure about 2½ inches when closed. ■

BRAKE PADS
Long-Life Performance
Brake Pads Built for Today’s ATVs and UTVs DP’s sintered-metallic brake pads, direct drop-in replacements, not only deliver a noticeably higher level of performance than OE, allowing ATVs and UTVs to stop quicker in shorter distances with more control, that high-level performance is long-lasting. DP brake pads, with all their performance, can last at least two to three times longer than the OE brake pads they replace. That’s something riders will notice.
DP Brakes has brake pads designed specifically for the modern range of big, heavy and powerful ATVs and UTVs.
A
TV and UTV riders have a problem. Their machines, as big, fast and fun as they are, wear through their OE-supplied brake pads at an alarming rate. And it can happen across the board, with the Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000s, the Can Am Mavericks, Honda’s Talon/ Pioneers, the Kawasaki Teryx models, and Polaris RZRs. As good as these machines are their factory-original brake pads just don’t last very long. DP Brakes can put a quick stop to that one OE shortfall.
There’s more good news. Along with that long-lasting, quick-stopping, controlled braking with DP pads there’s never any squealing and they’re clean. They’re quiet and never leave a layer of messy dust behind. And all this comes with competitive pricing. Riders aren’t getting what they need from the OE brake pads in their ATVs and UTVs. DP Brakes can change that, quickly, easily and economically. Long-lasting, highperforming ATV/UTV brake pads from DP are always available at Parts Unlimited and your rep can help you set up a stocking inventory. ■
