ur featured brand this month is Moose Racing, a name that LeMans Corporation acquired back in the 1990s. The original company was known for making clever gadgets, tools, and accessories for Enduro and other related forms of off-road riding. That is still the case today – and much more. In addition to a massive expansion of the hard parts line through the years, Moose Racing was soon in the apparel business with a variety of clothing to address motorcycle riding conditions ranging from the desert heat to cold and muddy mountains trails.

2022 BICYCLE

Be sure to check out in this issue the latest additions to the large array of competitive-level riding gear in Moose Racing’s Agroid line. It’s a complete head-to-toe package for both adults and youth, with pants, jerseys, gloves, jackets and a high-tech helmet featuring MIPS Brain Protection System designed to reduce the risk of brain injuries. In addition to the products, you’ll also see our report on how many of the Moose-sponsored men and women are doing this year in GNCC, National Enduro and other top racing series. Athletes such as Steward Baylor, Johnny Girroir, Rachael Archer, Korie Steede and others have been putting the Moose brand on the top step of the podium at many events. Another major feature in this issue is our Spring E-bike Special Section, which begins on page 49. Timed with the release of the 2022 Bicycle catalog, be sure read about many of the all-new cycling products that Parts Unlimited has added to its lineup to support the popular INTENSE TazerMX eMTB. The co-branded INTENSE/THOR line has updated its E-bike apparel offerings with new Chex and Dart jerseys, in addition to Assist riding shorts. A new brand for Parts Unlimited, but well-known to dealers, is 6D, who have created the new ATB-2T Ascent cycling helmet. Alpinestars, 100%, Maxima, Galfer and many more are in the new 2022 Parts Unlimited Bicycle catalog. ■

NEWS EVENTS Launching the Offensive THOR-BACKED OFF-ROAD RIDERS ON THE GAS

RIGHT: THOR/KTM rider Ben Kelley has gone fourfor-four in the 2022 GNCC series starting from the opening round in South Carolina. Mack Faint photo BELOW: THOR/KTM rider Dante Oliveira earned backto-back-to-back victories in the first three rounds of the 2022 WORCS, including this round 2 win at Glen Helen. H. Foley photo

Kelley was locked in a season-long battle for the championship in 2021, which was extremely entertaining for race fans, but in 2022, Kelley is looking to avoid the drama and take control of the championship from the beginning. Considering his utterly dominant performance at the following round at the Wild Boar GNCC in Florida, it looks like Kelley is set up for a great season. “Every other year I’m completely drained at the end of this race, so it’s crazy how good I felt out there,” said Kelley. “I’ve been down here in Florida for the past two months riding at Ranch Russell so I’m in shape. It wasn’t easy, that’s for sure, but it worked out in the end.”

A

s the 2022 off-road racing season roars to life in the U.S., so do THOR-sponsored athletes, taking wins from coast-to-coast en route to another collection of national championships. Headlining the major off-road series in the U.S is the THOR-backed FMF/KTM Factory Racing Team with riders Ben Kelley and Josh Toth in the East, and Dante Oliveira and Taylor Robert in the West. Of the handful of rounds that have taken place in the young 2022 season, these riders have already amassed eight wins. Launching his title defense in the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series, Kelley is off to an outstanding start. He fired the first shot of the series at the Big Buck GNCC, capturing the win with a flag-to-flag victory.

Toth is also on the move in the East, and nabbed his first win of the U.S. Sprint Enduro Championship at the third round. The win only came after what Toth called a “disappointing start” to the season, where he finished second and fourth at the opening two rounds. But thanks to heart and diligence, Toth emerged at the top at round three of the series, and now sits at the top of the points lead. Toth is also seeking to gain momentum in the GNCC and National Enduro Series, where top-five finishes are certainly admirable, but have him wanting more. Out West it is FMF/KTM’s Oliveira on the move. The young veteran has two championships to defend – the World Off Road Championship Series (WORCS) and National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) Series – and so far is out to a nearly flawless start. With the two opening WORCS wins and two of the three NGPC overall victories already to his credit, he is out to a great start, though he’s had his work cut out for him in the ultra-competitive field.

From dust to glory: KTM's Taylor Robert started the National Hare & Hound Championship season nicely with wins in rounds 1 and 2.

THOR rider Josh Toth has settled in nicely to the U.S. Sprint Enduro Championships. The KTM rider was victorious at rounds three and four. Shan Moore photo

But, thanks to the backing of the team, and hard work throughout, the wins are coming. “These guys were on it. They weren’t making it easy on me,” Oliveira said following the Glen Helen NGPC, where he took his second win of the season. “It’s still early in the year, but I’m feeling good.” Oliveira has one less competitor to deal with in 2022, as his KTM teammate Taylor Robert has moved on from WORCS to compete in the National Hare & Hound Championship and the West Hare Scrambles. “I just had a real strong desire to go back and do some real off-road racing,” commented Robert, who now calls himself “the old guy on the team.”

King of the Baggers Kicks Off in Daytona

I

ndian Motorcycle Racing dominated Race 2 at the 2022 King of the Baggers season opener at Daytona International Speedway with an all-out Indian Challenger podium sweep. Veteran road racer and the newest Indian Motorcycle factory rider Jeremy McWilliams battled head-to-head with fellow S&S Cycle/Indian teammate Tyler O’Hara to capture his first King of the Baggers win. O’Hara picked up the runner-up spot, followed by Indian Motorcycle privateer Bobby Fong, who was riding Steve Delorenzi’s S&S Cycle-built RSD Indian Challenger. ■

Robert is also out to a commanding start in the National Hare & Hound Championship, having taken the opening round win at the rugged Desert M/C Winter Classic. Still to come in the 2022 season is Trystan Hart, who will be taking on the AMA U.S. Hard Enduro Championship. The West Hare Scramble Series has yet to kick off, but look for THOR-backed athletes to dominate there, as well, as Robert also has his eye on that crown. ■

NEWS EVENTS Build. Train. Race. PARTS UNLIMITED PARTNERS WITH ROYAL ENFIELD

Now in its third year, Royal Enfield's unique Build. Train. Race. program is going bigger than ever in 2022 MotoAmerica and American Flat Track through the support of Parts Unlimited

G

etting out on the racetrack at a national-level event is a daunting ambition, even for an experienced racer. It might even be called a pipe dream for riders of less experience – especially female motorcyclists – who perhaps only have a few races under their belt, or didn’t even start riding until later in life. However, when 57-year-old Patty Paul of Michigan, a software development manager by day, and 35-year-old Colorado mother Moriah Hummer, who only began racing last year, were accepted to the Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. program for 2022, that pipe dream became a reality. Now in its third year, the unique Build. Train. Race. (BTR) program, fostered by Royal Enfield in North America, continues to provide women of all ages and all experience levels the opportunity to race a national-level championship series, both in American Flat Track and in MotoAmerica. For the 2022 season, the Royal Enfield BTR program is pulling out all the stops, fostering a field of 30 riders across two championships at a total of 13 venues. This ambitious mission by Royal Enfield is made possible through a new partnership with Parts Unlimited. “We’ve had our eye on the Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. programs for some time now and are very impressed with the progress and popularity they’ve seen in both American Flat Track and MotoAmerica,” said Paul Langley, Chairman of LeMans Corporation, parent company of Parts Unlimited. “The concept and the program are truly inspiring and reaches audiences that are very important to the powers-

ports industry – women and amateur racers. It’s a great opportunity to welcome new motorcyclists and show them the fun and passion of racing and that they, too, can aspire to get out on the track.” Applicants selected to compete in one of the two series receive a Royal Enfield motorcycle – an INT 650 for Flat Track and a Continental GT 650 for Road Racing – that they then build into a race bike. Riders in the BTR Road Racing program area treated to the mentorship and guidance of road racer Melissa Paris, who helped bring Build. Train. Race. to MotoAmerica. Once the Build portion of the program is complete, BTR racers then undergo training sessions before embarking on a series within a series in their respective championships. The programs will both be supported by Parts Unlimited through a parts and gear allotment for each participant, totaling more than $100,000 for the season. “The Build. Train. Race. programs have grown considerably since we started in 2019,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead, Royal Enfield Americas. “The amount of resources needed to run these programs is more than what we alone can provide. “Parts Unlimited took notice of the growth and popularity of BTR and stepped up with a big partnership. Their added support will not only help cover costs, but will also allow the creativity and talent of the BTR women to truly shine in 2022. We couldn’t be happier to have them on board. This is going to be an incredible season.”

BTR Flat Track women get slideways on their Royal Enfield INT 650 motorcycles at Weedsport Speedway.

For 2022, the game is bigger than ever, with BTR Flat Track carrying a field of 15 riders into seven rounds of the American Flat Track season. Returning after a successful first year at MotoAmerica, BTR Road Racing takes on six rounds, also with a field of 15 riders. “Following the success of our first two seasons, it only made sense to go bigger,” Poland added. “We continue to be overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm from fans, sponsors and the entire American Flat Track and MotoAmerica paddocks. We have an incredible group of women and a full race schedule ahead. This is going to be a busy year for Royal Enfield, but we’re looking forward to it!” The BTR Road Racing series kicks off at Virginia International Raceway May 20-22 at round four of the MotoAmerica Championship. The BTR Flat Track effort “officially” kicks off on April 23 in Odessa, Missouri, following a BTR Select round at the Volusia Half-Mile on March 11 for invited returning

riders and those who had their bikes ready to compete (the Build portion of the Flat Track BTR program wasn’t quite concluded at the time of this race). While previous Royal Enfield BTR programs focused on riders of novice experience, seeking to cultivate participants’ skills throughout the season, the 2022 season opened its doors to racers of all levels, drawing talent all the way from SuperHooligan racers to road race instructors and coaches, motocross riders and even from downhill mountain bike racing. “This is definitely the most diverse field we’ve ever had in either discipline,” said Poland. “We’re really looking forward to seeing the talent unfold on the track. It’s everything to know that we’re sending the women out there with the confidence of premium parts, support and protection. Our continued thanks to Parts Unlimited for the incredible support of Build. Train. Race.” ■

NEW SEASON, NEW GEAR OFF-ROAD PERFORMAN CE FOR ADULTS AN D YO U T H

RIDING APPAREL

Moose Racing’s 2022 Agroid racewear

20

A

new riding season means it’s time for riders to stock up on gear. Moose Racing has new Agroid off-road gear for your customers to choose from, pairing the latest color and graphic trends with lightweight, high-performance materials and construction methods. The Agroid line first debuted in 2020, and it is Moose Racing’s wildly popular competition-level gear. The performance fit coupled with flexible, breathable materials are designed to give riders extreme ease of movement on the bike as well as comfort in even the most competitive of riding scenarios. Moose Racing offers the Agroid pants, jerseys and gloves in both adult and youth versions. Additionally, there is the high-tech F.I. Agroid off-road helmet as well as an Agroid jacket that’s perfect for wearing around the pits when things get chilly. When the Moose Racing team set out to design the Agroid gear, its aim was to give riders the right blend of performance, comfort and style. Throughout the development process, Moose Racing teamed up with top

off-road racers, who field-tested the gear and provided feedback to make sure it checked all the boxes. These days, those top riders are wearing Agroid gear in racing series throughout the world. The same gear the toughest competitors wear is the same gear customers can buy from their local dealer. The Agroid jersey is made with lightweight, stretch polyester that is cut large enough to ensure comfortable movement, but not so big that it is bulky. The quick-drying nature of the material and laser-cut ventilation holes help riders stay cool even while working hard, and the sublimated graphics don’t restrict the breathability. Stretch mini-cuffs keep sleeves in place without binding. The Agroid pants are made from a durable stretch polyester woven material. Like the jersey, the pants feature laser-cut ventilation holes for extra airflow. The seat and knees are made from a woven stretch ripstop polyester in a doublelayer style. Paired with an extended leather inner and outer knee guard, this design creates additional fortification. At the same time, the stretch properties allow for a slim fit

over knee braces or guards, but without hindering movement at all. The pants have a pre-bent ergonomic design, too, for increased comfort on the bike. A three-point waist adjustment system fine-tunes the fit. The Agroid Pro gloves got the same attention to detail as the Agroid pants and jerseys, with a big emphasis on flexibility so a rider can easily grip the bars. The glove was designed with thoughtful materials choices like a lightweight stretch polyester paired with a single-layer Clarino palm. The result is plenty of comfort and flexibility, a smooth feel on the bars and sturdy abrasion resistance. The graphics are sublimated, which means the Agroid Pro gloves stay bright, no matter what. To top things off, the F.I. Agroid helmet with MIPS technology completes the look. The MIPS Brain Protection System (BPS) consists of a low-friction layer inserted between the shell and the liner of the helmet, and it is designed to help deflect energy during an angled head impact. The lowfriction layer allows a slight sliding motion in all directions, which reduces the rotational motion that is transmitted to the brain in an impact. By absorbing and deflecting some of that force, the MIPS BPS system is designed to reduce the risk of brain injury. An extra-large eye port provides a clear field of vision through the F.I. Agroid helmet. The nine intake vents and three exhaust ports keep air flowing on even the hottest of days, and the comfort liner is removable and washable to keep things fresh. Outside the helmet, a unique friction hinge visor is easy to adjust to suit each rider.

Off the bike, the Agroid jacket gives riders an extra layer when the weather doesn’t cooperate. A breathable, threelayer softshell membrane provides both water and wind resistance, and the full hood has an elastic drawstring and visor to provide another barrier. The fabric is soft and flexible, and there are five pockets. Of course, younger riders deserve great off-road gear, too, which is why Moose Racing also offers the Agroid gear in a youth version. The Youth Agroid gear has a youth-specific performance-enhancing fit, meaning it’s not simply a smaller version of the adult Agroid line. The vented materials maximize comfort and provide a full range of movement. The Youth Agroid jersey features a stretch comfort collar and cuffs, which keep things in place comfortably. The sublimated graphics maintain their brilliance, even after wipe-outs and washing. The Youth Agroid pants feature a pre-curved breathable polyester mesh chassis overlaid with reinforced high-denier nylon inner knee panels. A three-point waist adjustment system provides a tailored fit. The Youth Agroid pants and jerseys are designed to coordinate with Moose Racing’s Youth MX1 glove. The stretch-fit performance backhand, outseam construction and pre-curved fingers offer maximum comfort. Silicone tacky grips up the youth rider’s connection to the bars. ■

MOOSE RACING ON TOP A ROSTER OF TALENTED RIDERS DOMINATE THE OFF-ROAD SCENE

RACE REPORT

Moose Racing/Phoenix Honda rider Cody Barnes is on the gas in the GNCC series.

I

n the mid-’90s, there was little question – Moose Racing was the gear of choice for the off-road elite. Flash forward to today and the resurgence of an iconic brand couldn’t be in better hands. Thanks to excellent quality, function and style across the Moose Racing product lines for men, women and youth, and a focused sponsorship effort in the American off-road racing scene, Moose Racing is flourishing at the highest levels of the sport. Across major series such as GNCC, National Enduro and U.S. Sprint Enduro, Moose Racing-backed athletes are filling out podiums, all the way from the Pro ranks (both men’s and women’s) to support classes, and the ever-growing youth ranks. “Moose has made a tremendous effort in the last two years for the off-road and amateur segments,” said Carl Van

Niekerk, who heads up rider support at Moose Racing. “It’s important to foster the youth riders, obviously. And, when you support the racers at the grass-roots level, they tend to stay with the company as they move forward.” Some of off-road’s biggest names, such as AmPro Yamaha’s Steward Baylor and Coastal Racing GasGas’ Johnny Girroir continue to fly the Moose Racing colors this season. Thanks to a well-thought-out sponsorship plan, Moose Racing backs teams of nearly every brand in 2022, with AmPro Yamaha and Coastal Racing GasGas joined by Trail Jesters KTM, Magna1 Motorsports Husqvarna and Phoenix Honda. Another big initiative for Moose Racing is support for women’s racing. Just about everywhere you look at Pro Women’s podiums, particularly in GNCC’s ultra-competitive

“We recognize that the women put in the same amount of work, and they deserve the same support,” said Van Niekerk. The tremendous roster of elite off-road talent not only relies on Moose’s choice gear in off-road for performance and protection, but the athletes also play a role in the continuing evolution of the Moose Racing brand. “The gear’s quality has grown, and racing has helped us a lot with development,” said Van Niekerk. “Our racers do a lot of the R&D behind the scenes. We take their input and feedback very seriously in developing the product lines.”

Moose Racing/AmPro Yamaha's Rachael Archer leads the points in the GNCC Women's Pro series this season.

This important relationship has helped Moose Racing develop some of the most comfortable and durable gear for off-road racers, whether they’re slogging through the Georgia mud, battling freezing temperatures in Indiana, winding through tight trees in Michigan or pounding sand whoops in the sweltering Florida humidity.

ON THE RACE FRONT The proof is in the results, and so far in 2022, Moose Racing-backed riders and teams are showing their dominance. In the GNCC Series, Magna1 Motorsports Husqvarna’s Jordan Ashburn has been a consistent podium finisher. AmPro Yamaha’s Michael Witkowski sent notice that it might well be his year in the XC2 250 Pro division as he started the season with a pair of wins, but he will likely have Phoenix Honda’s Cody Barnes to deal with before long. Barnes took a strong runner-up finish in XC2 250 Pro at the second round of the GNCC Series, the daunting Wild Boar GNCC, which tested riders’ mettle in a race against the elements, as well as each other.

Keep your eyes on Moose Racing/Magna 1 Motorsports Husqvarna rider Jordan Ashburn this season.

MOOSE OFF-ROAD RACING ROUNDUP

WXC division, you will find Moose Racing gear. So far this season, the GNCC Women’s Pro podiums have been exclusively Moose Racing athletes, with AmPro Yamaha’s Rachael Archer leading the way. The lineup also includes Korie Steede of Trail Jesters KTM and Tayla Jones, herself a three-time GNCC WXC Champion, aboard her factory Rockstar Energy Husqvarna.

AmPro Yamaha’s Archer is flexing some muscle in both the GNCC and National Enduro championships. She is thus far undefeated, although Trail Jesters KTM’s Steede did manage to wrestle away a test win from her in the National Enduro Series opener in South Carolina. Steede won’t be letting up any time soon, so we’re likely in for a battle in the National Enduro Women’s Elite division.

Moose Racing’s Baylor also came out swinging in the National Enduro Series, claiming the first big win of the season. Baylor’s victory came as no surprise, but the performance that did turn heads was that of young Ryder Lafferty. The Coastal Racing GasGas racer took one special test win and went on to claim second on the day. In the meantime in the U.S. Sprint Enduro Series, defending champion Layne Michael, yet another in the AmPro Yamaha powerhouse team, is seeking to back up his championship. Michael is also fighting his way back from nagging injuries, and while he has yet to take a win in 2022, he has finished on the podium at all three rounds so far. Michael is battling through the pain in his shoulder, focused on collecting as many points as possible until he is ready to go on the attack. “I wasn’t sure if I was really going to be able to race,” Michael said. “But, I knew I was going to give it a go. Overall the plan was to at least show up and get decent points.” It was also at round three of the U.S. Sprint Enduro series that Pro 2 racer Barnes turned some heads. The young Phoenix Honda rider took four test wins over the weekend en route to the Pro 2-class win, and an overall runner-up finish. The Moose Racing-backed rider nearly took the overall but came up about 30 seconds shy. “I just tried to eliminate mistakes and not crash,” said Barnes. “It was just about not going down or getting stuck. Carbs and Cargo

Helping ATVs and UTVs Work Harder

TVs and UTVs are made to work hard and play hard, but OEM parts will eventually wear out. Plus, there are plenty of aftermarket products that go a long way in making it that much easier to both get things done and have a little fun. Moose Utility Division already has a long list of replacement engine parts to help dealers and customers alike keep engines fresh and performing at their peak. The latest Moose Utility Division products available in the engine department are ATV and UTV carburetors. These carbs are a direct replacement for the OEM version, but they come with a smaller price tag. Each carburetor arrives fully assembled and ready to install, and since they work with the existing OEM cables, making the swap is straightforward. Moose Utility Division ships each carb pre-jetted, though it’s easy enough to do some additional fine-tuning to get the engine into optimal form.

Moose Utility Division’s range of ATV and UTV carburetors are a direct replacement for OE carbs and offer more bang for the buck.

While Moose Utility Division helps keep ATVs and UTVs up and running, the company also focuses on making life easier with solutions for work and play. Winches are pretty much a musthave for off-road vehicles just in case the need arises to get out of a sticky situation. Not only are winches a great item to have on hand “just in case,” but they can also be used to make loading up a UTV cargo bed that much easier. With the Moose Utility Division cargo bed winch mount for UTVs, a four-bolt winch can be installed at the back of the cargo bed to pull heavy loads up onto the vehicle. Why try to load up heavy cargo yourself when you can just let a winch do it? While riders will find plenty of uses for the UTV cargo bed winch mount, Moose Utility Division is quick to note that it is perfect for hunting.

The cargo bed winch mount from Moose Utility Division are a great addition to a UTV, the perfect solution for loading heavy cargo and other tough uses.

The cargo bed winch mount can be installed on Polaris and Can-Am UTVs with a lock-and-ride accessory, while other models will require a little drilling.

eople often wonder, who exactly is LeoVince? While the Italian exhaust manufacturer’s name is certainly derived from that of an individual, he wasn’t a Grand Prix racer. Rather, the LeoVince title is an homage to Leonardo da Vinci, the famed 16th century painter, scientist, engineer and architect. It’s a fitting namesake, given LeoVince’s proud Italian heritage and the company’s approach to exhaust design and manufacturing, which melds the worlds of engineering, science and art. The end product of these passions are the premium exhausts that your customers and riders around the world aspire to install on their bikes. The LeoVince lineage reaches back to 1954, when Lambretta and Vespa 2-stroke scooters ruled the roads of Italy. What began as a small group of mechanics crafting pipes for Italy’s iconic scooters expanded to include other popular two wheelers. Riders and racers recognized the performance benefits offered by these quality exhaust systems, and competition quickly became a hallmark of the LeoVince development process. Over the decades, teams spanning from MotoGP, Superbike, motocross and enduro have equipped their machines with LeoVince exhausts. TIRES

Rising Star

An Off-Road Tire Ready to Win

Michelin’s new StarCross 6 tire range includes five different new models, including the Medium Hard versions.

M

ichelin likes to win. Looking back at Michelin’s multiple AMA Supercross, motocross, GNCC and National Enduro race wins and championships makes that obvious, and the new MICHELIN® StarCross® 6 off-road and motocross tire range is further proof. Designed to give competitors an edge, these tires come in five different versions to excel in a wide range of conditions and terrains. Whatever the course looks like, there is a MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire combination that can conquer it. Of course, Michelin didn’t design this tire exclusively for top riders. It is also designed to be a confidence booster for everyone from leisure riders to racers at every level of the sport. As one would expect with a new tire from Michelin, the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire is packed with technology and expert engineering. Winners don’t get to the top of the podium alone, and Michelin’s two-wheel tires don’t reach peak performance without help from Michelin’s successes in a lot of other industries. Michelin is able to build on its decades of research and development for each new tire, and there’s no reason Michelin’s breakthroughs in other industries

30

PARTS MAGAZINE

M AY 2 0 2 2

can’t improve tires in the two-wheel segment, too. Things learned from Michelin’s tire development in industries like agriculture, passenger and light trucks and, yes, even aircraft all combine to give Michelin a wealth of valuable information and technologies. For the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tires, two of the most significant technologies included in the design are MICHELIN Silica Technology and MICHELIN Adaptive Design. MICHELIN Silica Technology is a staple of modern on-road tires from Michelin, no matter which two-wheel segment the tire fits into. The silica content of the tire is carefully formulated to improve grip in cooler temperatures and in wet conditions. When tested against the MICHELIN StarCross 5 tire range, the previous iteration of this off-road tire, Michelin found a significant improvement in traction for the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire range. What’s especially interesting is how that performance improvement actually increases as the tire wears. When the tire is new, the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire offers as much as a 16 percent improvement in traction. As the tire wears, though, that number actually grows to 19 percent compared to the previous range.

MICHELIN

With five different versions of the StarCross 6 tire available, Michelin has your off-road and motocross riding customers covered with tires aimed at any type of terrain they encounter.

While MICHELIN Silica Technology improves traction, it also bolsters the durability of the tread blocks, so the life of the tire isn’t compromised. In testing for the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire, Michelin recorded a durability boost of as much as 11 percent compared to the MICHELIN StarCross 5 tire. MICHELIN Adaptive Design means each tire features a tread pattern that is designed specifically for the terrain it will be encountering. The number, shape, depth and distribution of studs and sipes are all carefully engineered to provide an optimal level of traction and lean angle predictability for the specific terrain. What that means is that each of the five MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire versions available will have tread pattern nuances designed for focused riding conditions. Offered in Sand, Mud, Medium Soft, Medium Hard and Hard versions, the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire can offer outstanding performance in sand and mud as well as terrain that ranges from soft to hard. Michelin has even created a handy chart for dealers to see the best front and rear tire combinations for each setting. And, for ease of understanding for both the dealer and consumer, Michelin continues the naming convention that corresponds to the type of terrain and conditions the tire is designed to be used in. With the April launch of the new tire, Michelin is already offering the MICHELIN StarCross 6 Medium Hard tire and

the MICHELIN StarCross 6 Medium Soft tire. Ordering is now open for dealers. Anyone who wants to see the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire in action need only take a look at GNCC racing. Michelin is once again sponsoring the series, and both pro-level and amateur racers will be competing on the MICHELIN StarCross 6 as well as the MICHELIN StarCross 5 tire. Additionally, Michelin is sponsoring the Magnal Motorsports Husqvarna Team this season. To help give dealers the best advantage possible, Michelin has both education and sales tools available. As usual with its tire introductions, Michelin is offering an online product training course for the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire. Anyone with an assessment score of 80 percent or better will be eligible for a reward from Michelin, too. The training module can be found online at www.michelin-training.net/motorcycle. Additionally, Parts Unlimited reps will be distributing the MICHELIN StarCross 6 tire point of sale material in the coming weeks. ■

DRIVE CHAIN

Level Up

Chains for Every Riding Tier

Whether your customers are on ATVs, streetbikes, off-road machines or Adventure tourers, D.I.D offers multiple tiers of chains to suit a rider’s vehicle and riding style.

W

hen it comes to chains, there is no one size fits all design that suits every riding style. Performance vehicles and competitive riders require a performance chain. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there is no need to put a chain packed with technology onto a vehicle being used for casual riding. D.I.D offers multiple tiers of chains to suit a rider’s vehicle and riding style. And with chains available for street and off-road bikes – or both, in the case of Adventure bikes – as well as ATVs and UTVs, there are a lot of chains to choose from. Thankfully, D.I.D makes it easy by clearly defining the different types of chains, all with characteristics tailored to differing levels of riding. For the everyday rider on a smaller-displacement bike, whether that’s on-road or off, the Standard Series chains are the ideal choice. These straightforward chains are a no-frills, non-sealed option available from 420 to 530 sizes. While they might be simple, Standard Series chains still give riders the quality they expect from D.I.D. The next step up from there are mid-level D.I.D chains with features like the brand’s SDH Pin Treatment, solid bushings and O-ring seals. The SDH Pin Treatment includes a hard chromium carbide outer layer combined with a soft inner core to help absorb shock loads. The result is a smooth drive chain feel. D.I.D’s O-ring seal design and the seamless surface of the solid bushings help extend the life of the chain by sealing in lubrication.

32

PARTS MAGAZINE

M AY 2 0 2 2

For vintage bikes, as well as smaller-displacement bikes that need a solid mid-level chain, D.I.D offers a non-sealed chain in the NZ Series. This series offers increased tensile strength from Standard chains and ranges from 415 through 530 chain sizes, including the 420NZ3 and 428NZ. For riders who want a quality OEM replacement sealed chain, the VO Series O-ring chains come in applications to fit most bikes. D.I.D’s professional level chains include the brand’s patented X-ring seal. The seal offers a chain life of 1½ to two times that of a traditional O-ring sealed chain with only half the friction/drag. The seal will flex with the movement of the side plates and retain the chain’s interior lubrication, which keeps the chain in excellent condition for a longer period of time. Direct Energy Transfer pins are another hallmark of D.I.D’s top-of-the-line chains. Combined with solid bushings, these pins create a smooth, responsive ride. Among the high-quality D.I.D chains are the VX series chains, which can be used for both street and off-road applications. The VX series will meet the demand of most on/off-road bikes on the market. For bikes with extreme power and weight, the ZVM-X series of chains are a beefedup version of the VX series that are designed specifically for applications such as heavy Adventure bikes and street bikes with extremely high torque and horsepower. ■

Battle Ready

Adaptable Adventure and Off-Road Tires The Bridgestone Battlax Adventure Trail AT41 provides great wet and dry traction in a tire that offers excellent long-life performance.

The Battlecross X31 tire is the newest member of the Bridgestone Battlecross X series. Designed for motocross and off-road bikes riding in a broad range of terrain, the Battlecross X31 is a true intermediate tire that gives better traction in both harder and softer terrains. This is due to the use of Bunker Groove technology, which improves the casing flex for greater traction in harder terrain and adds biting edges that contribute to stable riding over softer terrain. No matter which of the two terrain styles a rider is covering, the Battlecross X31 tire is able to adapt. The rear tire features Bridgestone’s Cooling Fins, which promote consistent traction and feel throughout an entire moto by dispersing heat and minimizing inflation pressure gain.

I

t just got a lot easier to do battle with the asphalt and the dirt thanks to the two latest tires from Bridgestone. The Bridgestone Battlax Adventure Trail AT41 and the Bridgestone Battlecross X31 both launched this year to give riders two tire options packed with technology, grip and performance. The Battlax Adventure Trail AT41 is an 80 percent on-road, 20 percent off-road Adventure tire for riders who want both great touring performance and a tread that is aggressive enough for some dirt riding. This tire balances enhanced wet traction on the pavement and touring longevity with the ability to handle some off-road adventure. In terms of Bridgestone’s other Adventure tires, the Battlax Adventure Trail AT41 fills the gap between the on-road Battlax Adventure A41 and the off-road oriented Battlax Adventurecross AX41. By optimizing the groove design of the Battlax Adventure Trail AT41, Bridgestone engineers were able to improve wet traction, braking and water drainage to give riders full confidence, even in bad weather. Bridgestone’s 3LC + Cap & Base technology further enhances both wet and dry traction by providing a dual compound carefully designed for grip on the shoulders and stability on the lower and central sections of the tread. In addition to providing the right amount of grip, this technology also boosts mileage.

Both the front and rear Battlecross X31 tires feature Castle Block, which increases the tires’ biting edges and improves contact pressure on slippery surfaces. On the rear, the asymmetric tread design enhances cornering traction, while the symmetric front promotes braking stability. The Battlax Adventure Trail AT41 is available in most common Adventure Bike sizes, and the Battlecross X31 is available in big bike motocross/off-road dirt bike sizes. ■

HELMETS

Time for a Change

Configuring a Custom Helmet

These two images of the same helmet – ICON’s Airflite – go far in showing just how many options are available for customization.

T

here was a time when a big selling point for a helmet was having different colors and graphics, and, of course, being able to swap out the face shield for a number of different tints or finishes. Back then, we all thought how nice it was to have so many options. And then along came the ICON Airflite helmet to show us what it really means to have options. In addition to the six solid-color and 22 graphics available, the Airflite gives the rider the choice of 11 different color options in the Fliteshield, four Pinlock-ready Fliteshield choices, 10 color options in the Forceshield, 11 Dropshield colors, 11 spoiler colors, five Airfoil colors and three visor options. Whew. That is a lot of options. That’s the whole point, though. ICON designed the Airflite to be as customizable as possible, so a rider can craft a helmet that best represents their style. Each Airflite comes equipped with either a Fliteshield – the original shield for the Airflite helmet – or the new Forceshield, which was designed with a 3D-molded process to provide optical clarity. Both the Fliteshield and the Forceshield are easy to change and provide a fog-free view. Behind the outer shield, an internal Dropshield can be lowered at need and, of course, swapped out for one of the 11 color options.

ICON offers a big range of spoiler options so your customers can give their helmets a look that’s just right.

The Fliteshield faceshield on the Airflite is striking enough looking on its own. Throw in the custom options available and your customers can have a truly unique looking helmet.

PARTS MAGAZINE

M AY 2 0 2 2

The Airflite can be worn with an unadorned shell, but riders who want to crank up the style can add a spoiler, Airfoil and visor. Those three items can be mixed and matched, of course. The spoiler looks good alone, but it also pairs perfectly with the Airfoil. The visor, with three color and finish options to choose from, lets a rider create a Supermoto look. While the Airflite was designed to be fun and customizable, it was also designed to keep a rider’s head secure from the world outside. The strong injection-molded polycarbonate shell saves both drag and weight, thanks in part to the carefully sculpted neckline that is designed to avoid interfering with a jacket or suit. Comfort touches aren’t forgotten, either. There are four intake vents, including an oversized chinbar vent, that pushes air though the EPS liner to two rear vents. The Hydradry liner helps keep things cool and dry, too, wicking moisture away from the rider’s skin. When the helmet needs freshening up, the Hydradry liner can be removed and washed. ■

TIRES

Touring the Future

Tires for a High-Tech Electric Motorcycle Another key contributor to the look and sustainability of Tarform’s motorcycles is the modular approach to design. Both the platform – including the software, powertrain and battery – and aesthetics are modular. That means customers can update the bike by swapping out individual pieces. Not only does that add to the motorcycle’s lifespan, but it also keeps it up to date in terms of both looks and functionality. The design of Tarform electric motorcycles blends the styling of classic bikes with optimized aerodynamics that decrease drag, which in turn increases battery range. The battery’s behavior can be controlled by choosing one of three riding modes that have a specific acceleration profile and customized regenerative braking. And when it is time for a recharge, the process takes only two hours with a 220V Level 2 charger or just four hours with a household outlet.

As Avon’s hypersport touring tire, the Spirit ST uses the latest tire technology to give riders ultra-high performance, handling and stability.

A

high-tech motorcycle deserves a high-tech tire. Revolutionary electric motorcycle company Tarform has chosen the Avon Spirit ST tire as OE for its Luna Racer model. The first Tarform motorcycles are already hitting the streets. In addition to the Avon-equipped Luna Racer, Tarform models include the Tarform Founder Edition Racer – which is made to order for each customer – and the Scrambler.

Each Tarform Luna Racer will come equipped with a 110/80 front and a 160/60 rear Avon Spirit ST tire. In all, Avon Tyres offers 19 different sizes for the Spirit ST tire. The Spirit ST tire range was a perfect choice for the Tarform Luna Racer’s OE tires. As Avon’s hypersport touring tire, the Spirit ST uses the latest tire technology to give riders ultrahigh performance, handling and stability. Plus, the Luna Racer needed a tire that can handle torque – it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. A dual-compound tread includes a high volume of silica as well as state-of-the-art polymer technology. The result is a tire that provides outstanding wet grip as well as mileage. Additionally, 3D sipes are carefully designed to improve stability and grip while also allowing the tire to warm up quickly. ■

Tarform was started five years ago in Brooklyn with the goal of creating a motorcycle that paid homage to the styling of mid-century motorcycles coupled with advanced technology and materials. By using natural, biodegradable and recyclable materials, Tarform is able to progress toward the goal of building zerowaste vehicles. One result of this goal is a new, biodegradable composite material based on flax seed fiber, bio resin and an algae-based pigment. After two years of development, that composite is now part of the bodywork on Tarform motorcycles.

Auto-Adapting Headlights for Motorcycles

cross the powersports industry, riding motorcycles is almost unanimously a deeply shared passion. Riders around the world are aware, at some level, of the inherent risks of riding a motorcycle on the road or highway, but that freedom and adrenaline trumps all. There are many things out of a rider’s control whether they’re riding day or night, such as road conditions, inclement weather, wildlife and of course, others around them. While changing uncontrollable factors is an unrealistic ask, the lighting experts at J.W. Speaker have made great strides in something we can control, and that’s forward lighting. With decades of lighting experience and innovation under their belts, J.W. Speaker has raised the bar in motorcycle lighting with their Adaptive® 2 headlights. These headlights automatically illuminate dark spots to the left and right of the rider’s main headlight beam while cornering to help riders better manage the risk of riding at night. This pivotal tool in heads-up night riding is something any applicable motorcycle should be equipped with, and here’s why. J.W. Speaker’s turn radius technology activates supplementary LEDs in real time, improving riders’ ability to see the next pothole, loose gravel on the asphalt, oncoming vehicles and just about anything in between. Improvements delivered by Adaptive 2 series lights are not limited to their turn radius tech, however. They also improve the light projection and brightness over most OEM headlights in straight-ahead riding, putting an extended, 1,500-foot punch of light at riders’ fingertips with their proprietary intelligence high beams. According to J.W. Speaker’s research, there’s a healthy percentage of motorcycle owners over the age of 60. Age is certainly no reason to stop riding a motorcycle because the passion never fades, but the extra visibility Adaptive 2 lights enable can be a key weapon in combatting the challenges of nighttime riding. Adaptive 2 lights can help breed confidence in riders, opening new opportunities and perspectives for them to enjoy rides under a starry sky or hazy night. Beyond that, simply improved peace of mind with better visibility can also improve the riding experience. As J.W. Speaker says, “Safety creates a sense of control, control breeds comfort, comfort creates happiness, and happiness creates passionate, avid riders.” ■

2022 BICYCLE CATALOG NEW VENDORS / MORE PRODUCTS

F

irst fueled by the global Coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. bicycle sales boom continues its growth as increasing numbers of consumers take to the streets and trails for two-wheel recreation and transportation.

While not quite the major growth seen in 2020, a 12-month period ending October 2021 saw the U.S. cycling market grow by 3 percent to just more than $8.4 billion, according to NPD Retail Tracking data. Enmeshed into that growth in the bicycling market is the continuing popularity of E-bikes among riders looking for family-friendly outdoor activity and a need for a commuting alternative – especially in the face of rapidly increasing gas prices. According to NPD, E-bikes grew by 47 percent in that same 2021 period, clocking in at $742 million.

Anyone familiar with their local bicycle trail system or dedicated bike lanes would not be surprised by these figures as the number of riders on E-bikes – which are available in three different classifications depending on the level of motor assistance – seems to grow exponentially. Given that surging growth and the crossover into the powersports market, Parts Unlimited dealers carrying the exclusive INTENSE TazerMX eMTB range and those servicing E-bike and cycling customer in general can once again look to the LeMans Corporation’s Bicycle catalog for the premium parts, products and apparel customers want. In fact, for 2022, the Bicycle catalog is back and it’s bigger and better than ever having grown by 50 additional pages and the addition of such high-quality and well-known brands as 6D helmets, Forceflex glasses and Pedro’s tools and equipment. Additionally, about 1,200 new part numbers were added from such existing vendors at 100%, Acerbis, Alpinestars, Crankbrothers, Flat Tire Defender, Kenda, Maxima, Michelin, Muc-Off, Ram Mounts, Renthal, Strider, Topeak, and THOR. With the expansion of the Bicycle catalog and addition of new and exciting high-quality vendors, Parts Unlimited continues to “Support the Sport,” and serve as the onestop shop for all dealers and their E-bike needs for support and service. The following pages offer up just a sampling of what’s new and exciting in the 2022 Bicycle catalog and include some in-depth product education on a host of products, parts, tools and apparel available for the growing E-bike and cycling market. MTB HELMETS

Cerebral Suspension

Omni-Directional Helmet Technology These days, 6D makes helmets for a wide range of uses, including street and off-road motorcycles, MTB, BMX and Downhill riding. However, the advancements the company is making have been noticed by other groups, like the NFL. In 2017, 6D and its lab partner, Dynamic Research, Inc., won the NFL Head Health Challenge III. After participating in a one-year engineering challenge sponsored by the NFL, 6D and Dynamic Research were awarded $500,000 for their pioneering work.

The ATB-2T is also built to provide outstanding airflow, and includes a special liner to further enhance comfort.

R

eceiving a concussion during a crash is one of the potential consequences of many recreational activities, whether it’s riding a motorcycle, an E-bike, a regular bicycle or some other form of transportation. What isn’t likely is that any of those who have recovered have then set about trying to make a better helmet to help prevent future concussions. Bob Weber, on the other hand, was inspired to start 6D Helmets following his own head-meets-ground adventure. 6D is a new name in the Parts Unlimited family, but it is far from a new company. Since 2011, 6D has been using the latest technology and materials to craft the next generation of helmets. Weber, who serves as CEO, co-founded the company with Robert Reisinger, who serves as Director of Engineering.

From the start, 6D has focused on improving helmet design by reducing the energy transfer that occurs during an impact, making use of non-traditional materials and design methodology to do so. The goal of any helmet designer is to mitigate impact forces as much as possible without compromising the helmet’s structural integrity. For 6D, the result is Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS). This unique and proprietary patented technology is summed up by Weber as suspension for your head. ODS technology allows an inner liner of the helmet to be suspended independently of the outside liner. During an impact event, that suspended liner is able to shear and displace in three-dimensional space, thereby reducing the transfer of energy. ODS technology is the most notable feature of the 6D ATB-2T MTB helmet. Ideal for MTB and eMTB riders, the 2T is E-bike certified, and it has a 5-star rating from Virginia Tech. The 2T also has significant improvements over its predecessor, the ATB-1T. The 2T is 6 percent lighter, and it’s smaller. The result is that riders have increased mobility and less fatigue during long rides. And, as a bonus, the smaller size simply looks nicer, too. In addition to the ODS-equipped EPP inner liner, the 2T features an in-molded EPS outer liner and a polycarbonate shell. The helmet is available in seven color combinations. The 2T is also designed for outstanding airflow. The ventilation includes a brow vent as well as sizable intake vents and exhaust ports to keep air moving over a rider’s head. An Ionic+ anti-microbial fit liner further enhances comfort. ■

Grinding It Out

Cycling Gear, From Casual to Race

THOR’s 2022 Bike Collection of jerseys, pants and shorts certainly bridge the gap between casual trail riding to all-out downhill racing.

C

ycling has long been a popular training activity, but over recent years, powersports enthusiasts have been adding pedal-powered mountain bikes to their two-wheel arsenal for some fun in the local mountains and hills. From ever-evolving electric bikes (E-bikes) to standard, self-powered bikes, mountain biking has evolved into much more than just a training exercise. Keeping pace with the fast increase in participation, bicycle manufacturers have been quickly improving the ergonomics, equipment and overall capabilities of their equipment. Known as an avid group of two-wheel junkies since their start, the crew at THOR have happily welcomed the evolution of mountain biking and recognized the need for cycle wear that’s ready to take on thigh-burning climbs and adrenaline-pumping, downhill charges.

THOR’s 2022 Bike Collection of jerseys, pants and shorts certainly do not disappoint in that field, bridging the gap from casual trail riding to all-out downhill racing. Appropriately dubbed ‘ASSIST,’ this cycling equipment is

Much like THOR’s moto racewear, these are constructed with moveability, durability and sleek looks in mind. A durable polyester main fabric provides a comfortable and athletic fit in combination with THOR’s proprietary hybrid, set-in sleeves. Moisture wicking materials help keep riders cool during gruesome climbs, displayed in red and gray colorways with a sleek, clean design. For your customers that prefer short sleeves for warmer days or more casual rides, the ASSIST Short Sleeve Jersey features the same durable polyester construction, hybrid set-in sleeves and moisture wicking characteristics for leading short-sleeve performance. Today’s bikes are offered in so many unique colors and designs, your customers will be excited to match their bike or style with ASSIST’s three different designs, each available in two different colorways.

Much like with the jerseys, THOR has a comfortable, well performing option for the more casual or warm weather rider with ASSIST MTB Shorts. Even though these shorts have roughly half the material, they deliver the full gambit of performance benefits and technology. ASSIST MTB Shorts were born from a motocross inspired design and engineered specifically for MTB and eMTB performance. They share the same In-Motion fabric, rear yoke stretch panel and side cinch system for optimum comfort and a precision fit. Storage of phones and personal items is also covered with two sleek, zippered pockets. Offered in two colors, riders can mix and match with the ASSIST Short Sleeve Jerseys for a kit for every ride of the week. MTB and eMTB gear follows a similar path to moto gear – a rider can never have too many sets, right? Encourage your customers to get out on the trails and break that personal record or hit that new line backed up with the confidence-promoting THOR ASSIST line. ■

» Whether those riders are on a pedal-assist eMTB like the INTENSE Tazer MX or a fully pedal-powered ride, the legs have to step in and put in some work. All-new for 2022, THOR’s ASSIST MTB Pant offers the essence of high-end motocross design and materials, purpose-built for the rigors and demands of a hard-charging MTB lifestyle.

Talk with your Parts rep for details, and check out the whole line in the 2022 Bicycle catalog. THOR offers a wide range of jerseys engineered for mountain biking.

Several factors help the ASSIST pants stand out, starting with an updated version of THOR’s proprietary In-Motion fabric chassis. THOR’s designers set out to achieve plenty of flexibility and ventilation in an impressively lightweight package, and achieve they did. The ratchet fly closure and lay flat side cinches are crucial in aiding ASSIST’s precision fit, allowing for finetune adjustments to fit the rider individually. The engineered fit doesn’t end there. A pre-curved chassis design and rear yoke stretch panel promote natural movement on the bike in the active riding position. Riders will stay cool with laser-cut ventilation holes and strategically placed vented mesh panels.

Anyone familiar with powersports knows Alpinestars and 100%, but what your customers might not know is that these brands have been heavy into cycling for ages. Parts Unlimited carries everything from Alpinestars and 100% including helmets, body armor and of course jerseys and shorts. Featuring a design aimed squarely at trail riding, the Alpinestars Drop 8.0 short-sleeve jersey is constructed from an advanced poly-fabric for moisture control and features extended mesh on the bottom chest, back, and underarms areas for higher levels of breathability. The jersey also has a hybrid collar construction and two pockets on the sides for stowing essentials like a wallet and phone. Riders can match the Drop 8.0 jersey to the Drop 8.0 shorts for a complete outfit that’s been fully optimized for fun on the trails. The Celium jersey/short combo from 100% is another great set of riding gear. Both pieces of apparel are made from breathable, moisture-wicking four-way stretch material, with appealing features for trail riding. With the Celium jersey, that means an integrated goggle wipe and elastic waistline. With the Celium shorts, your customers get waterrepellent fabric, zippered storage pockets, a BOA closure system, and more.

GAME-CHANGING HELMETS As with riding a motorcycle, strapping on a helmet is a must when setting out on an E-bike. Parts Unlimited carries helmets from 100%, Alpinestars, and now 6D, and all of these brands offer helmets with gamechanging technology designed to provide superior protection for your customers. The newest addition to the Parts Unlimited catalog is 6D’s ATB-2T Ascent helmet. The hallmark feature of 6D’s helmets is its awardwinning ODS (Omni-Directional Suspension) system. ODS consists of hourglass-shaped cushions separating two layers of EPS. This arrangement reduces angular acceleration energy transfer by means of the 3-dimensional displacement capability of ODS. Low-threshold energy accelerations are also dramatically reduced providing a more forgiving helmet over a much broader range of energy demands. On top of that incredible technology, the ATB-2T Ascent is lightweight and well ventilated, with a three-position adjustable visor, adjustable fitment system, quick-release buckle, and Ionic+ anti-microbial liner. For casual riders and those exploring fire roads or single-track on their E-bikes, the Altec ¾-helmet from 100% is a terrific choice. A major feature of the Altec is 100%’s innovative Smartshock Rotational Protective System, which integrates a constellation of 14 elastomer shock absorbers between the helmet shell and EPS liner. This system dramatically improves protection by compressing and absorbing energy while also allowing for rotational movement to account for non-linear impacts.

New to the Bicycle catalog lineup is the ATB-2T Ascent helmet from 6D – it’s lightweight, well-ventilated and features a special design aimed at enhanced rider protection.

Backing up the Smarkshock system, the Altec has a multi-density EPS foam liner with a durable polycarbonate shell. The Altec also has integrated sunglass storage, a multi-point adjustable visor, excellent ventilation by way of 15 ports, an adjustable ratcheting fitment system, a washable, moisture-wicking anti-microbial comfort liner, and convenient Nexus push-release buckle. Alpinestars has helmet options as well, including the Vector Tech Polar helmet. This ¾-helmet has a MIPS-equipped liner to help address rotational forces that act on the brain as a result of an angular impact. The

TA K E A S E AT Most E-bike riders will spend the majority of each ride seated and pedaling, so having a comfortable saddle – designed for the type of riding being enjoyed – is key. Fi’zi:k (as in the phonetic spelling of the word “physique”) is major player in the seat market with more than 25 years of experience, and it’s lineup of sophisticated saddles is now available through Parts Unlimited. The Terra Adion is available in two widths to suit different sit-bone spacing. Racers will prefer the Tundra saddle. It’s made form crosscountry riding and competition, so mass has been kept to a minimum. The Tundra has a relatively long, flat, narrow shape and a composite shell with Wing Flex technology for great power transfer and support along with flexibility of movement. B I K E R AC K S F R O M T H E R O C K I E S Your customers may be used to laying their beater bikes in the back of a truck, but you’ll want to warn them against doing that with their pricey E-bikes since they may mar the frame or bend a derailleur hanger. Luckily, Parts Unlimited offers bike racks from RockyMounts, a Colorado-based company that’s been perfecting hitch-mount bike racks since 1993.

The MonoRail is the most versatile rack in the RockyMounts line up. It has the capacity for all styles of bikes, from skinny-tire road machines, up to heavy, fat-tire E-bikes. The MonoRail’s trays can support two bikes weighing up to 60 pounds each, holding the bikes by their front wheels. The MonoRail tilts down 30 degrees to allow access to vehicle hatches, and the rack comes with a locking hitch bolt, cable lock, and lock pods, keyed alike. For complete and uninhibited access to the back of a vehicle, there’s the BackStage. The BackStage is the only swing-away platform hitch rack that swings out a full 180 degrees, so whether your customers have a truck, SUV or camper van, this rack is perfect for those who need open access to the back end of their vehicle. Based around the MonoRail platform, the BackStage provides full access to the back of the vehicle, even with bikes loaded. Are you ready to tap into the sales potential of the E-bike boom? CHEMICALS & LUBRICANTS

From Chain Lube to Deep Shine E-bike Care in a Bottle

Maxima’s Tubeless Sealant is great for today’s range of E-bikes, many of which are rolling on tubeless tires.

The SC1 High Gloss Coating, AKA “new bike in a can.”

W

hatever form of two-wheel fun your customers enjoy, Maxima has them covered. For E-bike riders, Maxima’s catalog of cleaners, lubes and chemicals covers every need, from chain lubes to tubeless sealant and beyond. If you have E-bike-owning customers, make sure they’re aware that one of the major chemical companies in the powersports industry is big into bikes. Gas powered or electric-assist, every two-wheeler needs a properly lubricated chain. For E-bike riders, Maxima’s Chain Pro chain lube is a great way to keep those links moving smoothly. This ultra-clean and long-lasting chain lubricant was designed specifically for use in dry and dusty conditions, so it resists grime and dirt buildup. The surfaceactive formula penetrates deeply and dries quickly, so your customers can get out on the trails with a quiet, smoothshifting chain. Even though Chain Pro is designed for dry environments, the mixture is waterproof, so it effectively repels water and helps protect against corrosion.

E

62

Most E-bikes come with tubeless tires these days, and when filled with a quality sealant, these tires can keep rolling even when punctured. It’s a reassuring prospect, and Maxima’s Tubeless Sealant makes it happen. Tubeless Sealant combines fast-acting polymers with suspended rubber particles to quickly seal punctures up to ¼ inch, providing a patch that’s nearly as durable as the tire itself. Tubeless Sealant offers long-lasting performance, remaining functional within the tire for up to six months.

Maxima Bio-Wash

Since sealant does have a service life, Maxima’s Tubeless Sealant comes with handy rim stickers so your customers can note the installation date. Once the ride has concluded and your customers are left with dusty or muddy bikes, Maxima’s Bio-Wash is the go-to. Bio-Wash is a biodegradable all-purpose cleaner with fastacting cleaning agents that lift away dirt and dissolve grime and oil-based deposits. This cleaner is tough on dirt, yet gentle enough to use on delicate surfaces including paint, plastic, chrome, anodizing, rubber, and carbon fiber. It’s also non-toxic, with no VOCs, harmful acids, or CFCs, which makes this powerful cleaner 50-state VOC compliant. The finishing touch for a freshly washed E-bike or any machine that needs to look spiffy is Maxima’s legendary SC1 High Gloss Coating. This polish has earned the nickname “new bike in a can,” and it lives up to the claim. SC1 makes plastic and painted surfaces look new again with a rich, long-lasting luster. The deep shine is the result of a surface-tenacious, bicycle-specific formulation that forms a durable film that repels mud, dirt and debris so bikes look better, longer. Making Maxima the go-to for E-bike chemicals is an easy decision; they’ve got it all! This is just a sample of what’s available, so make sure you check out the rest of the Maxima lineup for all of your customers’ needs. ■

CYCLING HELMETS

Lightweight Helmets for Mountain Biking

T

he Alpinestars Cycling lineup of products includes two helmets designed specifically for the rigors of mountain bike riding – the Vector Tech and the Vector Pro helmets.

The highly-advanced Vector Tech Helmet has been designed to be safe, protective and comfortable while still delivering the performance you expect from Alpinestars. This helmet boasts a smooth and streamlined profile, while the shape offers extended coverage around the temple and nape areas for enhanced levels of rider protection. The Vector Tech helmet is equipped with the MIPS brain protection system. This utilizes a low friction layer that allows a sliding motion in all directions to reduce the rotational motion transmitted to the brain during an impact, thus significantly reducing the risk of brain injuries. Ventilation is another key design detail of the Vector Tech helmet. Its 19 openings, complete with a reinforced air scoop at the front, deliver significant cooling airflow for optimal performances, even in the harshest conditions. Weight is an important factor in the riding and safety performance of a helmet, and to ensure that the Vector Tech offers the ultimate in weight-saving performance, the material selection, preparation and construction of the helmet have been rigorously analyzed to guarantee the helmet is lightweight but still delivers in terms of energy absorption. The Vector Tech Helmet weighs 390g (about 13.7 ounces) in a size M. Other design features include reinforcing cages embedded in the rigid frame for added strength, a quick release chin strap, a fully adjustable dial sizing system, and a washable, replaceable and breathable comfort liner made with quick-dry, anti-bacterial fabric. The adjustable visor can be tilted forwards for enhanced vision when riding uphill, and has space to facilitate the safe storage of goggles. The Vector Pro helmet is equally well designed, and is identical to the Vector Tech, but weighs just 370g (about 13 ounces), due to it not being MIPS-equipped.

ALL KIDS BIKE SUCCESS! L O S A N G E L E S - A R E A S T U D E N T S G E T R O L L I N G

hen Los Angeles-based author, journalist and veteran motorcyclist Charles Fleming first heard about All Kids Bike, he thought the program sounded like a fantastic way to not only get kids exercising, but to introduce them to the glory of two wheels. The program launched by the Strider Education Foundation supplies kindergarten PE classes with a fleet of Strider balance bikes, helmets and a proven learn-to-ride curriculum that gives children the chance to experience the joy of two wheels. For many children, it’s their first introduction to bicycling.

I’ve done, and some of the most interesting places I’ve been are because, when I was 4 years old, I got on a bike.” So, when Fleming was given the opportunity to set up a screening of the classic “On Any Sunday” in late 2021, he opted to turn the event in a fundraiser for All Kids Bike. With the help of generous donors – including Parts Magazine publisher and editor-in-chief Don Emde – Fleming raised the $5,000 needed to sponsor a school with the bikes and the instruction. Thanks to Fleming and his donors, the All Kids Bike program was established at Glenfeliz Boulevard Elementary School in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles. The program kicked off with a celebration in February where kindergartners and first graders got their first chance to check out the new Strider balance bikes.

Instructors offer careful guidance so that young riders build up the confidence to get rolling on their own.

Los Angeles-based author, journalist and long-time motorcyclist Charles Fleming gets the seal of approval for the new program.

Glenfeliz principal Karen Sulahian said she was very excited when she heard that Strider had chosen the school for the program. Her son had learned to ride and balance on a Strider bike and she realized how great they are for instilling confidence on two wheels. “The confidence that children get when they learn how to do something so independent and liberating as riding a bike transfers to every facet of learning how to do something new, difficult or scary,” Sulahian said. She noted that many of the students live in high-traffic areas where parents might hesitate to send their kids out bicycling. She said, “This program gives all students – special needs, gifted, second language learners, high achievers and at-risk kids alike – the chance to learn how to do something they can use for the rest of their lives.”

ALL KIDS BIKE/FLEMING

The students — some new to two wheels as of that day — take a spin on the Strider balance bikes.

Fleming's fundraiser helped bring the All Kids Bike program to Glenfeliz school.

Fleming, who was on-hand for the program launch, said it was a thrill watching those kid who, at first seemed a little unsure about the bikes, but then after a few guided laps, started getting the hang of it and were “suddenly riding bicycles.” Reflecting back on his riding life, Fleming said he hoped that the experience the program offered would turn some of those kids into lifelong cyclists who could enjoy all the benefits that come from moving through life on two wheels. “That’s what I would wish for these kids, is that added self-confidence and the license it gives them to explore the world,” he said. ■

Performance Pads and Rotors for E-Bikes

ore power to get going means more power is necessary to stop, too. Galfer gives e-bike riders a performance upgrade when it comes to braking, offering brake pads and rotors that are designed specifically for E-bike applications. Galfer’s eMTB brake pads and rotors are able to deftly handle the increased mass and speed that an E-bike has compared to a standard bicycle. And, as Galfer enthusiasts would expect, the pads and rotors offer the consistency, control and smoothness the brand is known for. The G1652 compound brake pads offer durability, excellent modulation and outstanding heat management. Riders get a more performance-oriented pad than stock without giving up longevity.

E

Racers and aggressive riders typically prefer the Pro mountain bike G1554 compound brake pad, which has a strong bite and suits competitive riding styles as well as challenging environments. The G1554 pads are ideal for downhill riding, where brakes are subjected to maximum temperature levels.

Galfer’s eMTB brake pads and rotors are able to deftly handle the increased mass and speed that an E-bike has compared to a standard bicycle.

Galfer offers a variety of rotor sizes for eMTBs. The 203mm WAVE rotor is slightly thicker than a stock rotor, making it ideal for e-bike and aggressive mountain bike riding. The 223mm oversize WAVE rotor takes braking performance up a notch, and a simple adapter is all that is necessary for mounting. Now, Galfer has an even larger option, the 246mm fixedmount WAVE rotor. This size offers maximum stopping power, and like its smaller counterparts, its patented WAVE design keeps braking systems cooler by allowing air to pass over every point of the brake pad surface. ■

Chains Designed for Any Route

C

ustomers with Adventure bikes and dual-sport machines are usually looking for the roads less traveled – both paved and unpaved. Often as not, the journey is the destination and the conditions can vary widely with the weather and the terrain. On trips like this, a motorcycle’s drive chain has to be as tough as the machine on which it’s installed. Let your customers know that Regina Chain has them covered with three selections designed for wherever the day may take them. For the pavement minded, the Regina ZRT Touring/Street chains ensure high mileage and high quality. When it comes to mixing up a little on-road with some off-road action, the ZRE Adventure chains are ideal for riders who want durability, but with the added ability to withstand the stress of off-road riding. Both the ZRT and ZRE chains feature Regina’s innovative Z-Ring seals, which reduce elongation to help prolong mileage. Additional longevity comes by way of the steel solid bushings and rollers plus the shot-peened plates, pins and rollers. The chain’s gold color tops off the package.

Regina Chain’s ZRE Adventure chain is built to withstand the multitude of conditions common to Adventure and dualsport motorcycles.

Those looking for a chain with a lot of ‘bang for the buck’ should check out Regina’s ZRA Black Dual chains. Designed to handle both street and off-road riding, the ZRA chains feature the same quality components found in the other chains. The difference? ZRA chains have a natural steel color and come in 520 and 525 sizes only. Drive train upgrades are a snap thanks to Regina’s chainand-sprocket kits for the most popular Adventure and dual-sport models. Each kit includes the front and rear sprocket in stock gearing plus a pre-cut Z-ring chain. ■

Performance Pipes for the 2022 Honda CRF250R

EXHAUSTS

Exhausting All Options

For those customers already ripping around on the 2022 Honda CRF250R, Pro Circuit has a range of exhaust options. The lineup includes models for everything from pro-level performance to those for amateurs looking for a competitive edge.

P

ro Circuit is a name that is synonymous with true motocross racing heritage, American-made performance and championship-level quality. Over the decades, Pro Circuit has gained irreplaceable experience working with race teams and athletes around the globe developing fine-tuned racing equipment for just about any two-wheeled, off-road race machine. Making its name with their pipes and exhaust systems, Pro Circuit’s legendary performance is now available for the 2022 Honda CRF250R platform. The Pro Circuit exhaust lineup has grown from a small selection of 2-stroke pipes to today’s expansive offering of 2-stroke and 4-stroke systems and components, each developed and built specifically to deliver optimal performance for each model and use. The latest in 4-stroke exhaust technology from Pro Circuit are their T-6 and Ti-6 systems, fueling performance and fun for everyone from weekend trail riders to racers on the professional circuit. The Ti-6 Titanium Exhaust System is Pro Circuit’s staple in motocross and off-road performance, combining the weight saving advantages of titanium and carbon fiber construction with usage versatility across different racing styles. The Ti-6 system is an ideal exhaust setup for AMA Amateur events from closed-course to offroad, as it is equipped with a removable USFS approved spark arrestor. For racers lining up under the stadium lights or behind the gate of a professional motocross event, the Ti-6 Pro

Titanium Exhaust system shares the same weight and performance characteristics as the standard Ti-6, but is designed to meet the sound requirements of AMA and FIM sanctioning bodies. For your more casual riding and racing customers who want the legendary performance for their 2022 CRF250R, but value durability over weight savings, the T-6 Stainless Steel Exhaust System utilizes the same, proven design as the Ti-6. However, the T-6 features a stainless head pipe and combined stainless steel and aluminum construction in the muffler to achieve superior durability while simultaneously shaving a few dollars off the price compared to titanium. Many of your customers today are likely looking to minimize spending while still maximizing fun, and Pro Circuit’s T-6 Stainless Steel Slip-On Silencer does just that. A relatively inexpensive, easy-to-install, durable performance solution for the ’22 CRF250R and more, the T-6 Slip-On can help riders improve long-term performance and riding versatility with a removable spark arrestor and combined stainless steel and aluminum construction. All Pro Circuit exhaust components are manufactured in-house at their Southern California manufacturing facility with the same dedication to performance that Mitch Payton had when he started out with just a small shop. ■
