Honors For Dick Burleson
by Don Emde
Iwanted to share with you how happy I was recently to help organize support for Dick Burleson’s induction ceremony into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, which was held in Daytona Beach during Bike Week. Dick’s incredible accomplishments in off-road competition during the 1970s and ’80s include eight straight AMA National Enduro Championships, as well as eight straight Gold medals in the grueling International Six-Days Trial competitions those same years.
Burleson had been inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame many years ago, but his new award was something very special. For those of you not familiar with the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, since 1988 the organization has recognized deserving competitors and others from every major segment of motor racing, including one award per year for a motorcyclist.

2. LeMans president Mike Collins and his wife Lori were in attendance. Don Emde photo
3. Dick holds his new trophy with (from left): Gary Gibbs, Dan Fitch, Ron Ribolzi, Brad Kruckenberg, Jared Krueger, Kevin Kelly, John Strangfeld, and Carl Van Niekerk. All are currently or formerly at Moose/Parts Unlimited except Ribolzi, who is a friend and former Enduro competitor. Don Emde photo
To date, legendary motorcycle road and track racers such as Kenny Roberts, Bob Hannah, Wayne Rainey and others have been honored. Until this year, Malcolm Smith had been the only off-road competitor to be honored, but now Dick Burleson joins him in that illustrious group.
So, what’s his connection to Parts Unlimited? After retiring from racing, Dick was one of the architects of the Moose Racing product line when it was launched in 1994. He then continued to be a part of Moose product development, including Moose Utility Division, for the next 25 years. Parts Unlimited supported Dick’s award as an event sponsor. ■
Congratulations DB!

MOOSE RACING AND THOR ATHLETES AIM FOR THE WIN
It’s not even officially halfway into the calendar year, but already Moose Racing and THOR athletes are leading and even claiming off-road racing championships.
A big congratulations to THOR-backed rider Johnny Girroir of the FMF/KTM Factory Racing Team for claiming the U.S. Sprint Enduro Championship, and to Kyle Peters of the Phoenix Honda racing team for bringing Moose Racing another AMA Arenacross national championship. Girroir was a force to be reckoned with in the Sprint Enduro Championship, dominating his way to clinching the title with two rounds remaining.
For Kyle Peters, the phenom is now a four-time Arenacross champion, and now sets his sights on the World Supercross crown.
PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2023 @sbsbrakes I sbsbrakes.com I #GoAhead
THOR/KTM’s Johnny Girroir clinched the U.S. Sprint Enduro Series Championship in the Pro class two races early with a second-overall finish at the Promised Land MX U.S. Sprint Enduro round in Oldtown, Maryland. Mack Faint photo
Girroir’s highlights extend beyond Sprint Enduro, as the champion is now focusing his efforts on GNCC. After barely cracking the top-five in the first half of the season, Girroir roared back at the Hoosier GNCC to take the win, marking the sixth winner in as many rounds. The stunning 2023 season has now yielded seven winners in as many rounds, four of which are Parts Unlimited-backed athletes including THOR/KTM’s Ben Kelley, defending champion and Moose Racing riders
Jordan Ashburn, and AmPro Yamaha’s Ricky Russell. With five more rounds left to run and no repeat winners yet, the title is still very much up for grabs. Despite a disappointing round seven with no points scored, Kelley can still consider himself in the GNCC championship hunt.
Cody Barnes, another Phoenix Honda star, leads the GNCC XC2 250 points, which sits on a knife’s edge between the Moose Racing rider and his teammate Ruy Barbosa. The duo are not only doing battle in the 250cc ranks in GNCC, but also in the U.S. Sprint Enduro Pro 2 class. Barnes leads the way there, as well, with Barbosa not far off in third, also boasting an overall event win in Maryland, the same round where Girroir claimed the championship with a rare runner-up finish.

At the John Penton GNCC, round seven of the 2023 season, Barnes put in a good fight with Moose Racing/Yamaha rider Liam Draper, eventually winning the XC2 class. Joining Barnes and Draper on the podium for a Moose Racing sweep was Honda rider Mike Witkowski.
On Moose Racing-backed AmPro Yamaha team, more race wins and championships look to be on the way. It will be tough to wrestle the GNCC WXC Championship from Rachael Archer’s grip at this point, the Moose Racing-backed rider is on a tear with five straight wins now to her credit. With the unwavering support of Parts Unlimited and Moose Racing, the defending champ has a good shot at defending her number-one plate.
The Parts Unlimited rider with the most clout in the National Enduro title chase is Ryder Lafferty. The Coastal GasGas/Moose Racing rider is knocking on the door for a win, with a string of podiums so far in the season.
Out West, THOR-backed riders are climbing the ranks in WORCS racing, National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) Series and West Hare Scrambles (WHS). The Oliveira family leads the way, to no surprise, with Dante Oliveira and the FMF KTM Factory Racing Team so far dominating the WHS series. Dante is doing double duty in NGPC, where he also leads the way in the points, taking four wins from seven rounds so far in the season.

Mateo Oliveira tasted sweet victory, himself, with a his first-ever overall WORCS win at the Glen Helen round. “I had the biggest smile on my face,” said Oliveira. “I knew this was my weekend, and I told myself before I left the house to get it done!”
On the hard enduro front, FMF KTM star Trystan Hart continues his quest for championship glory. The national champion has now set his sights on the world stage, and declared after his win at the Battle of the Goats that he is all in for the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. ■
» We at Parts Magazine congratulate all the Moose Racing and THOR riders on their hard-fought success this season.

1999 ROCKY MOUNTAIN 300
Arguably the most popular dealer rides that Parts Unlimited has held through the years were the Rocky Mountain 300 off-road rides. Patterned after the world-famous Rocky Mountain 500 put on by former Indy car driver Wally Dallenbach, the Parts Unlimited ride covered much of the same route through the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado as the 500, only one day shorter.
The home base for the 6th annual Parts Unlimited ride in 1999 was the Three Seasons Lodge in Upper Crested Butte. Since the ride participants filled up the hotel, the main parking lot was converted into a paddock area for sponsor trucks and the dirt bikes. The day before the ride started, the area was used for Performance Alley where sponsors gave out free goodies and talked about their products. The following day the ride took off for Ouray, then returning there two days later.
Similar to how it works today, Parts Unlimited offered vendors of virtually all the applicable product categories a chance to be an event sponsor. Those sponsor fees help offset the expenses for rooms, meals, support staff and guides
and more. In return, their product line is included on the eligibility list of what dealers can order to qualify themselves for the ride. Parts Unlimited sales reps also could qualify for the ride based on signing up a certain number of dealers. The main sponsors of the ride were Parts Unlimited, Moose, THOR and Alpinestars. Rain or shine, the ride continued through Jeep roads, single tracks, water crossings and more, sometime reaching altitudes of 13,000 feet. Obviously, the terrain and weather conditions provided the participating dealers a chance to try the products that they would be selling in their stores. ■
» Most people on the rides would agree, if someone wasn’t having fun, they were in the wrong business.

The 6th annual Rocky Mountain 300 ride was covered in a 16page feature story in Parts Magazine issue #9 of 1999. One of Moose Racing’s riders, Fred Andrews and THOR’s Larry Roeseler are seen on the front cover.
Normally, this would be a parking lot for guests’ cars, but during the Rocky Mountain 300, it was converted to motorcycle parking and the pre-ride Performance Alley.
The day before the ride began, the sponsors all got to set up a display in Performance Alley to hand out free samples of their products that the dealers could use on the ride.

TIRES
Since the first Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tire hit the streets in 2007, it has become an example of Pirelli’s motto: “We sell what we race, and we race what we sell.” Derived from years of experience at the highest levels of roadracing, the Diablo Supercorsa SP tire is a supersport tire for the street, but it has the heart of a racing tire.
Now, Pirelli has introduced the Diablo Supercorsa V4 tire, the fourth generation in what has become one of the most successful motorcycle tires in Pirelli’s history. More than 3.5 million of them have been sold, and Pirelli is looking forward to equipping a range of the top supersport and naked bikes with this latest generation of the tire.
The introduction of the Diablo Supercorsa V4 tire represents the culmination of Pirelli’s rollout of the fourth-generation
Each size of the Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tire has its own specialized structure, which has been dialed in for optimal performance in conjunction with the width of the profile for that size.
The “SP” in Supercorsa SP V4 stands for “Sport Production.” With this tire, someone can ride to the track, participate in a track day, then ride home, without the need to swap tires.
Diablo range of racing and sport tires. The Supercorsa V4 is manufactured in two styles – a track-oriented version and a street version. The one that is in stock and ready to ship to Parts Unlimited dealers is the Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tire for the street
The Supercorsa SP V4 tire might be primarily for street use, but its racing DNA is still apparent in the design, materials and profile. It’s easy to trace the line from race tire to street tire. Pirelli has been the official tire partner and sole tire supplier for the FIM World Superbike Championship since 2004. In 2005, Pirelli introduced the Diablo Superbike tires, which were track-only slicks. The next step in the journey came two years later with the Diablo Supercorsa SC grooved racing tires. In 2008, the first Diablo Supercorsa SP street tire made its debut.
20 PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2023 COVER STORY
Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa V4 tire represents the culmination of Pirelli’s rollout of the fourth-generation Diablo range of racing and sport tires. It’s made for street use, but its racing DNA is still apparent in the design, materials and profile.
From Race to Road
A superbike tire for the street
This evolution from racing slick to high-performance street tire was no accident. Pirelli wanted a tire family that could be used by pro racers and street riders alike. As Pirelli continued to make technological advancements with the racing tire, those same innovations were incorporated into the Supercorsa SP tire, as well. That way, involvement in racing was more than just a way to advertise. It was also a way to develop street tires for consumers in an extremely fast laboratory. And if World Superbike is a lab, then there were a lot of “scientists” working on the Diablo family of tires. Over the past 20 years of development and advancement, Pirelli has gotten input from world champions and OEMs alike to create the highest quality Supercorsa SP tire possible.
The “SP” in Supercorsa SP V4 stands for “Sport Production.” While it is positioned as a street tire, it is also a great choice
for track day enthusiasts thanks to its excellent handling and dry grip characteristics. With this tire, someone can ride to the track, participate in a track day, then ride home, without the need to swap tires or make extensive setup changes to the bike.
The tire bead on the Supercorsa SP V4 is designed to provide maximum performance whether the tire pressure is optimally set for the street or the track. This allows a rider to decrease the tire pressure for a track session without sacrificing the performance, then return it to the street pressure.
Some of the features that equip the Supercorsa SP V4 tire for the street include a faster warm-up time and higher mileage in comparison to its racing counterparts. In all, the Supercorsa SP V4 tire gives riders track-derived performance in a street-savvy package.
21 JULY 2023 ★ PARTS MAGAZINE PIRELLI
COMPETITION COMPOUND
The Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tire includes a dual compound makeup for the front and rear, making it the first iteration of this tire to have a dual compound in the front. The base compound on the front tire is rich in silica, providing temperature stability and consistency in both hot and cold weather conditions. The rear base compound is slightly softer than the one used for the front, and it has a 100 percent carbon black formulation.
On the shoulders of both the front and rear tire, the compound is the same one used by the racing version of the Supercorsa tire, with a 100 percent carbon black formulation, outstanding handling and maximum grip even at full lean.
Altogether, the dual compound design and specific compound choices are intended to give the Supercorsa SP V4 outstanding grip and acceleration, especially when coming out of corners, while still offering adequate mileage to suit the needs of street riders.
PERFORMANCE TREAD PATTERN
The completely slick shoulder area on the Supercorsa SP V4 tire is a clear sign of its racing lineage. The slick area is strategically located to provide an increased contact patch both going into and at full lean, resulting in improved grip through the corners.
The tread pattern itself has a long list of competition-derived characteristics. Pirelli designed the Supercorsa tire with an interrupted FLASH design. This pattern accomplishes a lot of things, including improving water displacement, increasing the size of the contact patch, reducing warm-up time and providing a more even, consistent performance.
NIMBLE PROFILE
The Diablo Superbike slick tire and the Supercorsa SP V4 tire share a similar multi-radius profile, which is ideal for abrupt direction changes. The goal of the profile is to smooth out even the most aggressive riding styles and to provide excellent, consistent reaction to the rider’s inputs.
The front Supercorsa SP V4 tire has a profile designed to improve handling, so a rider can lean into corners earlier and flick the bike quickly and smoothly. The front profile extends the contact patch while leaning, so stability is greatly improved, as well.
SIZE SPECIFIC
Pirelli didn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach for the Diablo Supercorsa SP V4 tire. Each size available has its own specialized structure, which has been dialed in for optimal performance in conjunction with the width of the profile for that size. Details like the proportions of the compound and the arrangement of the tread pattern have all been considered.
Additionally, the Supercorsa SP V4 tire got an upgrade in the materials used compared to the V3 version. Those materials, combined with a wider section of structural cords, give the tire improved rigidity and shockabsorbing capabilities.

2023 NORTH AMERICAN NVP PRODUCT EXPO
For 2023, that special gathering gets kicked up a few notches as Parts Unlimited, Drag Specialties and Parts Canada once again team up to present the North American NVP Product Expo, a collaboration between the three companies that promises to make the Monona Terrace the absolute epicenter of the motorcycle aftermarket.
If that’s not a reason to call Madison home for the weekend, try this on for size – this year’s show will hold more than 53,000 square feet of exhibit space to highlight all those new products and great vendors. Toss in those expo discounts, exclusive dealer training and the popular Meet & Greet/Bike Show and you can bet that Wisconsin’s capital city will be the white-hot focal point of the powersports industry in August.
This cross-border alliance first launched a few years back and proved to be so popular it’s now returning for the second year running post-pandemic. It blends the combined presence of vendors, dealers and sales reps from across the continent – and from two different countries – to gather for some much-needed face-to-face contact, intensive product education and hands-on product viewing. With this collaboration, exhibitors will have the best of all teams in one location to roll out new products and programs and to educate both dealers and sales reps alike.
The North American NVP kicks off Saturday, August 20th with a “State of the Business” dealer briefing session before the Expo opens to dealers for two full days.

Originator and Innovator Powered by Technology
Still innovating after nearly a century, D.I.D is celebrating 90 years of being an industry leader in developing and manufacturing high-quality drive chains and motorbike rims. D.I.D’s SDH pin treatment consists of a hard chromium carbide outer layer that helps retain the chain’s rigidity and strength. This offers improved feel for the rider and improved performance.
With such a long history and invaluable experiences in the highest levels of motorcycle racing around the globe, D.I.D’s original concepts such as DIRECT, SDH Pin Treatment and the patented X-Ring seal design are what make D.I.D stand out from the crowd. These original concepts are vital in the quality and performance of D.I.D’s products and are unique to the brand.
What is rigidity and why is it important? A high-quality chain must have high rigidity, which is a material’s resistance to deformation under great pressure. D.I.D’s DIRECT concept was developed for the purpose of giving chains great response to high-impact torque and power from acceleration and braking, which emphasizes the rider’s sensibility and connection through the drive train. Because of the specifically selected materials and produc-
chain’s rigidity and strength. To help with improved feel to the rider, the interior of the pin has a soft inner core to absorb high shock loads that often happen in offroad racing. This pin technology is a difference maker in performance and rider feel.
Lastly, D.I.D’s patented X-Ring seal is a unique design that offers superior quality and performance. The X-Ring seal shape, which is in the form of an X, allows for maximum flex so that it moves with and not against the chain’s plates. This flex allows for optimum lubrication retention inside of the chain, therefore giving the chain a longer life. Without proper lubrication, the chain’s components will wear more quickly and the chain will become elongated, requiring a new chain. In comparison to an O-Ring chain, an X-Ring sealed chain will likely last up to two times longer.
Also, because of the X-Ring seal’s shape and design, this seal will have much less friction in comparison to other seals. This near frictionless feeling is obtained because there is less seal surface area that is in contact with the inner and outer plates, which gives the rider a much better feel and does not rob the bike of its power. ■

Fit for a King Talking Helmet Tech with Kyle Wyman
When roadracer and Daytona 200 winner Kyle Wyman had a wicked highside while racing in the U.K., he found out firsthand just how good his 6D helmet really was.
The crash resulted in the biggest hit Kyle has ever taken on the head, though cognitive testing showed it didn’t affect his brain as much as other, less violent head injuries. Kyle points to the technology in his 6D ATS-1R helmet as the reason the big crash had such a small effect.
Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) is 6D’s proprietary patented technology that allows an inner liner of the helmet to be suspended independently of the outside liner. During an impact event, that suspended liner is able to shear and displace in three-dimensional space, thereby reducing the transfer of energy.
When the team at 6D dissected Kyle’s helmet, the inner and outer layers of EPS had sheared 6mm in relationship to each other at the impact site. “It showed the helmet took away a significant amount of rotational force before my head ever took the impact,” Kyle explains.
In 2016, Kyle became one of the company’s sponsored riders and a developmental rider. At the time, 6D was working on a street helmet, and they needed an experienced rider to help bring the ATS-1R to life.
“I was drawn to the product because of the safety and the technology of the ODS system, and I’d seen its success in Supercross and motocross,” Kyle says. “I believed in the technology, but there’s a lot more to a street helmet than a dirt helmet – the functionality, the aerodynamics, and wind coming in from different places at speeds up to 190mph. Those were things 6D hadn’t been exposed to in the past.”
The result of the collaboration between 6D and Kyle Wyman is the ATS-1R helmet, a high-tech street helmet worthy of a roadracing champion. These days, fans can see Kyle wearing the ATS-1R in the King of the Baggers Championship. Kyle won the title for Harley-Davidson in 2021, and is on track to do it again in 2023.
Not only can fans see the helmet in action, but they can wear one just like it, too. Parts Unlimited is stocking the ATS-1R Wyman, a replica of the graphics that Kyle wears.
For Kyle, working with 6D is a chance to be on the cutting edge of helmet technology. “It’s a departure from traditional helmet design, and something that’s revolutionized helmets,” Kyle notes. “Now, rotational mitigation is required in a lot of series around the world, and 6D were the pioneers in this area. The way 6D accomplishes rotational mitigation is intriguing because of that extra dimension of absorption that they offer.”
Kyle also appreciates being able to rely on 6D’s ODS no matter what kind of riding he’s doing. If he’s cross-training on his MTB or riding motocross, he relies on a 6D helmet designed for those disciplines. ■

Years and Growing
A MILESTONE FOR A HELMET AND APPAREL BRAND
This year, Z1R is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The helmet and apparel brand has evolved a lot in the past quarter of a century, and things look very different today than they did back in 1998.
When Z1R launched its first products, the lineup was focused on black leather jackets, vests and chaps. Jackets were definitely the biggest offering, with styles like the Pilot, Speed, Bomber, Cruiser and Police.
That last option, the Police jacket, was available in sizes and styling for men, women and kids. While there are a lot of things that have changed about Z1R since its inception, the company has always recognized the importance of providing options for riders of all shapes, sizes and ages. That way, the entire family can enjoy riding together. These days, Z1R offers helmets in youth sizes, letting the little ones enjoy some of the same great graphics and styles as the grownups.
Z1R kept things simple when their first anniversary rolled around in 1999, and the list of available products wasn’t all that different from its initial range. By 2000, though, Z1R was really beginning to expand, including offering more casual apparel with a particular focus on women’s styles. Yes, you
could order a halter top and shorts to go with that leather jacket and chaps!
The real leap in Z1R’s evolution came in 2001, when the company released its first helmets. The full-face Stance helmet was available in eight colors, and Z1R followed up its debut helmet with the ¾ Jimmy helmet and the Drifter half helmet. Suddenly, Z1R wasn’t “just” a company making leather apparel, but a full-line helmet and apparel brand. Another significant shift in 2001 was that Z1R expanded beyond the street market for the first time. The introduction of a snow helmet, available in six different colors, showed that Z1R had plans for conquering more than just the Cruiser segment.
Over the next few years, Z1R continued to increase its helmet lineup, adding new styles each year as well as introducing new colorways and graphics options. In 2003, Z1R made its first appearance in the off-road market. The Roost and Youth Roost off-road helmets were both offered in five colors – not only could parents and kids ride together, but they could be perfectly matched while they did it, too.

COMPANY ANNIVERSARY
As these product stories from 2006 and 2007 show, Z1R’s helmet lineup continued to grow and evolve as the company moved into new riding segments and helmet styles.
The first major milestone Z1R hit was its 10th anniversary in 2008. By then, the street lineup included nine helmet designs in a huge range of colors and graphics. There were three off-road helmets for adults as well as two youth versions, and the six helmets in the snow selection included Z1R’s first modular helmet. In just one decade, Z1R had gone from a producer of leather street apparel with just 14 products to a robust brand with products in the street, off-road and snow segments. It was also around this time that Z1R sponsored Laura Klock and her two teenage daughters, Erika and Karlee, as they set records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. It would be tough to find better representatives to rock Z1R helmets. In addition to growing into different segments of powersports, Z1R also grew its available selection of items.
From leather jackets and chaps in the apparel department, Z1R has expanded to offer gloves, footwear, rain gear and textile and denim jackets and vests.
Today, Z1R has hot sellers across a variety of helmet segments. In the street category, the Solaris modular helmet has been popular since its debut thanks to its versatile design. In addition to being modular, it also has an internal drop-down sun visor to make swapping between day and night riding as easy as flicking a switch. And by adding the available breath box, dual shield or electric shield, the Solaris helmet can be easily converted into a year-round helmet.
The Rise off-road helmet is popular with riders of all sizes who are hitting the trails. In addition to being offered in adult sizes, it is also available in both Youth and Child versions. There is a variety of colors and graphics for all three versions, too.
The Range Bladestorm snow helmet is the brand’s bestselling winter sports product. The dual-sport design means it can be used with the included standard shield and dualpane, anti-fog shield, or it can be paired with goggles. ■

Looking Out for Young Riders Regulation
Torso Protection and Racewear
The American Motorcyclist Association is the almost-100-year-old organization that is deeply engrained in American motorcycling history. Beginning with sanctioning two-wheeled racing in some of its earliest forms has led to a lineup of almost 2,000 events each year backed by the AMA. Throughout these racing generations, the AMA has developed and evolved its rule book each year to help riders stay safe and come back for another green flag, among many other things. Within the rulebook is a section on competition apparel, something THOR knows well. Naturally, amateur riders make up the majority of competitors in AMA racing, including youth classes. For 2023, AMA has added a new rule to its rulebook highly encouraging chest and back protection, but requiring it for all riders in youth classes.
Thankfully, THOR has served youth riders with proven protection for many seasons before this became an official rule, and the company hasn’t skipped a beat in 2023 to help dealers offer their customers what they need for these young riders.
The Youth Guardian and Youth Guardian MX lines from THOR provide chest and back protection in a carefully designed unit. The new AMA rule does not just list vague requirements. In fact, it’s quite specific, stating “The protector may be worn under or over the jersey, and it should cover the sternum anterior ribs, posterior ribs, and spine from T1 to T 12.”
Compliance is not a worry with the THOR Guardian line, as these protectors are built and proven to allow young riders to not only meet, but exceed, the rule’s requirements. The Youth Guardian MX features a modern design through

its shape and styling and offers tested and certified chest and back protection without sacrificing maneuverability for the rider.
The Youth Guardian MX’s design is complemented with a modern fit achieved through Biofoam shoulder pads with an integrated, adjustable strap system. Combined with an adjustable waist buckle closure system and precisely molded panels, the fit of these protectors can be refined to feel natural for a wide variety of young riders.
For riders who prefer more classic style, the Youth Guardian features traditional design characteristics with modern technology and construction. These protectors utilize adjustable suspension arm guards and shoulder guards, both fitted with molded comfort liners. While the fit and features vary slightly from its MX counterpart, nothing is sacrificed in adjustability of the Guardian.
Despite the stylistic differences, the Youth Guardian and Guardian MX are both tested and certified to meet European regulations and standards, covering both the chest/ abdominal and back portions. Meeting these stipulations helps ensure that the Guardian protectors exceed the minimums of the recent AMA regulations and that young racers across the country can check another box on the safety checklist.
Experienced construction and innovative design play an important hand in achieving these certifications. They include level 1 back protectors constructed to reduce impact energy transmission and a molded panel stone shield up front to combat roost as well as help protect what’s underneath in crashes or mishaps. Plus, comfort is maximized with THOR’s press-fit comfort liner system that’s molded-in for a smooth inner chassis. All in all, Youth Guardian protectors from THOR are a staple for any young rider’s gear bag, no matter their racing or riding style.
While THOR is a heavy supporter of the up-and-comers of motocross, its customers of all ages and skill levels have something to look and feel good in from THOR. Case in point is THOR’s Pulse racewear. The design idea that drove Pulse was to bridge the gap between championship-level performance and workhorse reliability. This results in a hybrid-style meshing of durability, ventilation and flexibility in one racewear package.
Pulse racewear pants leverage THOR’s proprietary InMotion fabric technology, promoting the body’s natural motion when riding while maintaining durability. Enhancing the durability factor is heavy-duty material construction in high-wear zones, a nylon saddle and fullgrain leather knee panels for gripping the bike.
Comfort remains a priority with Pulse racewear as well, offering optimized ventilation for long rides and hot motos with laser-cut ventilation, mesh paneling and moisture
wicking materials in the pants and jerseys. Pulse jerseys also boast a four-way stretch cuff and collar and hybrid setin sleeves for that modern moto fit, feel and performance. For many riders, looking good is a key factor to feeling good, which is why Pulse is offered in three different fast and timeless designs and expanded with eight different colorway options among the three of them. Whether your customers are heading out for a weekend trail ride or lining up at their local moto track, Pulse racewear has their back.
From young amateur racer protection to veteran motos, THOR remains at the forefront of racewear and riding equipment across the powersports industry. ■

Slip-On for Honda’s New Model
Hside of the motorcycle business, but its most recent new model announcement was inspired by the early days of the street scrambler. New to the U.S. market, the SCL500 “drips with raw style and detail that only comes with long history,” according to Honda. This new bike’s modern scrambler style sports a compact chassis with minimal bodywork for a rugged and classic look and is powered by a highly cruise-able twin-cylinder engine.
As a company with its own rich heritage, Vance & Hines never takes its finger off the pulse of the street motorcycle market, so naturally its development team eagerly got their hands on an SCL500 early-on to give it the proper Vance & Hines exhaust system treatment.
Practically as new as the bike itself, Vance & Hines’ Hi-Output slip-on exhaust for Honda SCL500 models is the essential anti-suppressor, helping uncork the new Honda’s true potential. This slip-on’s 4-inch stepped muffler provides a gracious increase in breathing room for the SCL’s twin-cylinder engine and backs it up with an exhilarating roar that will turn heads at a twist of the throttle.
The entire slip-on system is coated with high-temperature, black ceramic paint that provides durability and an incredibly sleek look. A mid-pipe guard is affixed to the slip-on from the Vance & Hines factory, maintaining essential rider and passenger leg protection while accentuating the raw yet refined look.
At the end of the 4-inch muffler is a CNC-machined billet end cap complemented by a rivet-mounted, laser-engraved logo providing the finishing touches that deliver the classic Vance & Hines identity. This Hi-Output slip-on was carefully designed to deliver race-inspired looks and performance in a package that fits as precise as OEM. Plus, riders in any of the 50 states can enjoy treating their SCL with the Vance & Hines touch as these slip-ons meet emissions compliance throughout the country.
This new slip-on for the Honda SCL500 complements a comprehensive lineup of exhaust products offered for the Honda powersports roster. From compact rides like the Honda Monkey, Grom and Navi to metric cruisers like the Rebel 1100 and 1100T, and even the Talon side-by-side, Vance & Hines has the exhaust to make your customers’ machines sing the sound of performance. ■

HI-OUTPUT SLIP-ON
CELEBRATING FOUR DECADES OF STOPPING POWER
Who would have thought that, 40-plus years ago, a single decal positioned on the lower fork leg of a Suzuki GT-750 in England would play a key role in the future of motorcycle disc brakes? Actually, it was the decal’s message that was significant. With tongue-in-cheek humor it read: “Brakes don’t work when it’s wet.” Simply, the Suzuki’s front disc brake with time-honored organic compound pads squeezing a hefty stainless-steel rotor was ineffective in the rain. And it rains a lot in England. What to do?
Members of the United Kingdom’s Transport and Road Research Laboratory rolled up their sleeves to seek a solution. Their trail led to Dunlop Aviation, a subsidiary of Dunlop Tires, England’s largest tire manufacturer, established in 1889 by Irishman John Boyd Dunlop. Most recently Dunlop had developed disc brakes for the supersonic Concorde jet airliner. Rain or shine, its brakes worked, so Dunlop Aviation applied the same principals towards developing a similar sintered-metal pad compound for motorcycles.
Dunlop’s new formula proved effective in wet weather, so they were put into production through a newly-formed subsidiary, Dunlopad. However, circumstances forced Dunlop to sell the small company in 1990. An industrious entrepreneur, Phil Ayliff, who headed the consortium Ayliff Products, stepped forward with a suitable management-buyout plan to complete the deal. With Ayliff’s longtime friend and associate Frank Edwards serving as Dunlopad’s new Operations Director, a new era in motorcycle braking began.
Ayliff promptly filled essential company positions with experienced engineers and marketing personnel. Among them was Frank’s twin brother John, filling a key role in product development and testing. Later Ayliff’s son, Trevor, joined as Managing Director.
“Our first visit to the European trade show in Köln, Germany, was a turning point, as we signed up many European distributors and we soon became an export-led company,” Frank recalls. “This culminated in a prestigious award, the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement, the first motorcycle-based business in the U.K. to be awarded such an honor.”

COMPANY ANNIVERSARY
1998 sales rep trip to England (from left): Jeff Fox with Richie Attianese, Frank Edwards (DP), John Allison, Bill Newell, Terry Murphy, Tony Tepedino, Graham Ayliff (DP), Paul Anderson, Mike Ego, Trevor Ayliff (DP), Larry Mills (DP), Mike Buckley from Dunlop Tires and Phil Ayliff DP Brakes founder.
This event raises a humorous story that colleagues shared about Ayliff. As the story goes, when presenting the Queen’s Award, Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, acknowledged Ayliff Products’ accomplishments, commenting that the company was a family business, to which Ayliff casually replied, “Yes, much like your own, Ma’am.”
After conquering Europe, Ayliff cast his eye towards the lucrative U.S. market, and for that he contacted friend and longtime associate Tony Mills, who, in 1977, had resettled in America to represent Dunlop Tires as U.S. distributor in Buffalo, New York. After retiring from Dunlop, Mills assumed a similar role with DP Brakes.
“Our success in the USA market was primarily due to two factors,” recalls Frank. “First off, Tony Mills becoming associated with DP Brakes after his retirement from Dunlop Tires in 1991. Tony was an industry figure with a technical and marketing background from his years at Dunlop U.K. and USA.”
The second factor leading to DP Brakes’ success in America?
“Easy, having a relationship with Parts Unlimited starting in 1994 and becoming exclusive in 1996,” Edwards says. The relationship included close ties with Parts Unlimited’s Fred Fox and his son Jeff who helped give further insight into the U.S. market.
Not only did then-Dunlopad appear in the Parts Unlimited dealer catalog, the company’s sintered metal pads were featured in Parts Magazine’s third issue – July/August 1994, Volume 1, No. 3. Topic of discussion? Well, those rugged and reliable sintered brake pads. The key takeaway from that first article underscored the importance of sintered pads. “Dunlopad’s position in the motorcycle market is unique because it is the only brake pad manufacturer that
concentrates 100 percent of its production on sintered metal pads,” the story read.
Indeed, there have been several significant changes that affected DP Brakes over the years. Foremost, there was Phil Ayliff’s passing in 2002, and of course Fred Fox’s passing this year. Tony Mills retired a few years ago, but his slot was duly filled by his son, Larry Mills, who grew up within the company’s familial sphere.
Frank Edwards remains Technical Director, but Trevor Ayliff has stepped down to allow his son (Phil’s grandson), Graham Ayliff, to serve as Operations Director.
DP Brakes now offers a wide range of clutch kits and brake pads, including those sintered-metal compounds that started it all.
The name changed from Dunlopad to DP Brakes in 1993 to eliminate any affiliation with the tire company, and the products have remained true stoppers the whole time. “We have established several firsts in the industry: The first to overcome the wet delay before our sintered pads cured that problem,” Edwards notes. “The first to use a ceramic heat shield on motorcycle pads to reduce heat flow to the caliper. The first to develop a no-noise/no-dust compound for Harley-Davidsons.” The company also supports an impressive lineup of off-road champions.
Edwards concludes with this: “We are proud of being an independent company, free of the quagmire of corporates. And, we’re now led by another Ayliff family member, Graham, grandson of the originator of this company.”
Over the years there have been numerous growth changes and DP’s product line has expanded to include part numbers for practically every form of recreational and competition riding. However, the main objective remains the same – to stop! ■

A Yamaha YZ250X with Big Upgrades Performance Potential
Earlier this year, Moose Racing unveiled a customized 2023 Yamaha YZ250X, proving that it’s possible for an off-road bike to both go fast and look good. Blending performance and style was easy for the team at Moose Racing since everything they needed was at their fingertips.
Carl VanNiekerk, Pro Rider Support for Moose Racing, and Product Specialist Austin Weaver teamed up to build the Yamaha, which was supplied by Mukwonago Yamaha in Wisconsin. As for the modifications made to the bike, every single part is from Moose Racing.
The purpose of the build was to showcase what’s possible for customers to achieve with Moose Racing parts. Stock bikes can be transformed into show bikes that perform as well as they look, all with one brand.
Many dealers may not realize just how many products Moose Racing supplies. On the Yamaha YZ250X build alone, there are nearly 30 Moose Racing parts. Many of them are easy to spot when looking at photos of the bike, which was one of the goals Carl and Austin had with this build. Just one glance at the bike shows how many possibilities there are for upgrading an off-road bike exclusively with Moose Racing parts.
The products chosen for the build include some that demonstrate just how easy it can be to give a bike a facelift. Up at the front of the bike, the controls have all been swapped out for Moose Racing parts, including handlebars that are fitted with lock-on grips. The aluminum handlebars include a crossbar pad, and the clutch-side knurling helps keep the grip securely in place.

CUSTOM DIRTBIKE
With Moose Racing's product lineup and a little creativity, your customer's bike can go from stock to stylish in no time. Those upgrades also include plenty of performance options.
With lock-on grips, a secure fit is easy to achieve. There is little chance of them rotating or moving once they have been mounted to the handlebars. The lock-on system mounts in just seconds, and an Allen-head mounting bracket secures them to the bars. This system means there is no need for grip glue or wire – riders get slip-free performance without needing a single adhesive.
The Moose Racing brake and clutch levers complete the setup. Lightweight but durable, these levers are a great option for off-road riders who want reliability. The clutch lever includes a hinge, so it bends instead of breaks in most impact situations.
Keeping parts functioning properly is a must for off-road riding. The Moose Racing case savers are small, lightweight parts that do a big job. The 6061 CNC-machined aluminum pieces guard against engine case damage, all while being sturdier and more attractive than the plastic guards that come stock. Moose Racing even includes the mounting hardware for easy installation.
Another Moose Racing part guarding against impacts is the pro Shark Fin disc protector with brake carrier. This robust piece is as tough as they come for rear brake disc protection. The Shark Fin protector covers both the caliper and the rotor, and it replaces the entire brake carrier.
And speaking of brakes, Moose Racing brake components on this Yamaha 250X include the brake pedal and brake caliper cooler.
Moose Racing XCR brake pads have been mounted on both the front and rear brakes of the Yamaha. The hightech gray zirconium-based ceramic is extra thick to protect the brake fluid from the heat generated during braking, and the sintered metal compound is low-wear, so brakes will continue to perform consistently even in the toughest, most competitive of riding environments. In fact, XCR brake pads provide outstanding braking characteristics even in wet conditions.
To match the performance of the brake pads, the Yamaha also has Moose Racing’s stainless steel brake lines on the front. Swivel ends make them easier to fit, the lines will not kink during installation and rubber protection boots shield vulnerable areas from heat and impacts. The DuPont Teflon-coated brake hose is wrapped with stainless steel, which is PVC-coated to protect both the bike and the brake lines. The coating ensures the brake lines maintain their good looks, too. ■

Race Tech for the Road High-Performance
Tires for Sportbikes
Racing is considered one of the best places to research and develop motorcycle products, which means MotoGP is essentially the world’s fastest laboratory. Michelin has long been the spec tire brand for MotoGP, and much of the company R&D stems from the vast knowledge and expertise gained in that series.
Parts Unlimited carries three key ranges in Michelin’s extensive portfolio of sportbike, track day and roadracing tires: the MICHELIN Pilot Power 2CT, the MICHELIN Power 5 and the MICHELIN Power GP tires.
The MICHELIN Pilot Power 2CT tire is a sportbike option that gives riders an enticing blend of affordability, durability and performance. This tire has exceptional grip in both wet and dry conditions, which makes it a great street tire choice for sportbike riders. No matter what the weather is doing, riders can have confidence that the MICHELIN Pilot Power 2CT tire will perform admirably.
One of the features that makes this tire so versatile is MICHELIN 2CT Technology. The center of the tire is a more durable compound to provide longevity, while the softer compound on the sides of the tire result in good grip and impressive lean angles through the corners.
Michelin has long been a heavyweight in the sportbike tire market, and the MICHELIN Power 5 tire is the newest
offering to prove why. This street tire incorporates the latest in design and materials technology to give sportbike riders three key things – dry grip, wet grip and aesthetics. In blind internal testing with independent supervision, the MICHELIN Power 5 tire excelled in wet grip performance. Of course, the tire is just as impressive in dry conditions, where its agility can really be appreciated. The lean angles and cornering speeds give street riders the performance and agility one might expect from a track tire. The MICHELIN Power 5 tire is a fantastic choice for riders who really want to explore the capabilities of their sportbike.
These performance characteristics are due to the precision engineering, meticulous materials choices and many Michelin technologies built into the MICHELIN Power 5 tire. MICHELIN Radial-X evo Technology is a special ply fold that provides even more sidewall flexibility and greater comfort by absorbing road deformations even at high speeds, delivering remarkable stability and responsiveness for high-powered vehicles.
Michelin pioneered dual-compound motorcycle tires in 2005. MICHELIN 2CT Technology on the front tire and MICHELIN 2CT+ Technology on the rear places the right compound mix in the right spot to provide optimal grip and cornering stability without compromising longevity.
54 PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2023 PRODUCT SHOWCASE TIRES
Michelin’s Pilot Power 2CT tire gives riders a blend of affordability, durability and performance. It has exceptional grip in both wet and dry conditions, which makes it a great street tire choice for sportbike riders.
As much as sportbike riders value performance, the team at Michelin also knows they value looks. The MICHELIN Power 5 tire features MICHELIN Premium Touch Design. This textured finish gives the outer sidewall a distinct look, so it is as stylish as it is functional.
For riders who want the option to ride on both the track and street without the need to swap out their tires, the MICHELIN Power GP is the tire they’ll be looking for. Designed for 50 percent on-road and 50 percent track day use, the MICHELIN Power GP tire is designed as a “plug-and-play” option that means someone can ride to the track, ride on the track, then head home without ever needing to change their tires.
On the street side of things, the MICHELIN Power GP features the same architecture as the MICHELIN Power 5 tire. The dual-compound technologies and tread patterns are shared across Michelin’s street, track day and racing tires, which means the transition from street to track is virtually effortless.
When it comes to track day riding, the MICHELIN Power GP offers the performance traits that can make the day both fun and competitive. The tire is designed for outstanding grip in both wet and dry conditions, and it is easy to set up a bike when using this tire.
The MICHELIN Power GP utilizes both MICHELIN 2CT and 2CT+ Technologies. This means the tire has optimal dual-compound distribution and a carefully formulated blend of carbon black and silica compounds. The result is enhanced grip that offers track day riders supreme confidence through the corners.
Dealers are encouraged to stock up on Michelin’s range of street and track day tires for Michelin’s consumer rebate promotion this month. The promotion will take place during the month of June, and dealers can find details and promotional materials at the Michelin Dealer Engagement Site.
In addition to the promotional material, you can get information about all of Michelin’s tire lines, find product

Clutch Control Replacement Parts for Indian Models
Clutches are the unsung heroes of a motorcycle’s drivetrain. Jackrabbit starts, sudden downshifts, even heavy loads that challenge a motorcycle’s gross vehicle weight rating, contribute to added stress for clutch plates and springs. That’s not even taking into account those fun-filled burnouts and wheelies that are often part of the ride. Yeah, riding can be tough on clutches.
Accumulated mileage is another enemy of clutches. The more miles ridden the more taxing on the clutch assembly. With that in mind, and now that Indian Motorcycle enters its 10th year under the Polaris Industries banner, more than a few of the early Chief and Chieftain models to hit the road are in need of new clutches, perhaps even new clutch cables. Barnett offers an assortment of
Classic Stainless Steel with clear coat. As with all Barnett cables, the protective clear coat is guaranteed not to discolor, and comes in stock or custom lengths for raised handlebars.
Barnett has complete clutch kits for 2014-2023 Indian models as well. These clutch kits feature Carbon-based or Kevlar segmented friction plates that allow better oil flow for cooler clutch temperatures and smoother, more consistent performance and longer friction plate life. Kits also include tempered steel plates and heat-treated, heavy-duty coil springs for a complete and easy clutch replacement. The Indian clutch kits are measured at the factory for proper stack. That ensures proper fit and smooth performance right out of the box.
replacement clutch cables and complete clutch kits to fit all Indian models, ranging from the price-leading Scout to the sporty FTR to the smooth and powerful Chief/ Chieftain/Roadmaster line.
Start with the clutch cables that feature High Efficiency inner wire that Barnett was first to introduce to the motorcycle industry. The High Efficiency wire is nylon coated and lubricated using a super slick silicone lubricant that, when combined with the Teflon inner-lining, provides longer cable life and ultra-smooth cable action that reduces hand lever effort for a more comfortable ride. Three casing types are available in Traditional Black and
Scout/FTR). The kits include Kevlar segmented friction plates offering increased oil flow, tempered steel plates and a set of heavy-duty springs for increased clutch performance. As with all Barnett clutch packs, every Extra Plate Clutch Kit for Indian motorcycles is measured at the factory for proper stack to ensure fit and performance right out of the box. ■

Tailored for specific vehicle use applications, Engine Ice has fine-tuned three antifreeze and coolant formulas, covering motorcycles, UTV/ATV and snow/winter.
Keep Cool Targeted Antifreeze and Coolant Solutions
Heat is the enemy of performance, especially with powersports machines. Founded with the goal of fighting power-robbing temperatures in motorcycle racing, Engine Ice has approached this concern from a scientific level for years. While it may come as an afterthought, changing coolant in motorcycles and other powersports vehicles is recommended every year, generally. It should be part of riders’ normal maintenance routines and can help prevent more serious repairs. Engine Ice has become an expert on powersports cooling through years of experience combining the mindset of a rider and the knowledge of an expert, creating ideal formulas for powersports customers.
Tailored for specific vehicle use applications, Engine Ice has fine-tuned three antifreeze and coolant formulas, covering motorcycles, UTV/ATV and snow/winter. It’s important to understand freeze protection versus cooling performance can have an inverse relationship. When riding in warmer climates, choosing a coolant with less freeze protection is ideal for better heat transfer, and vice versa. Thankfully, Engine Ice has removed complication and tailored each of these vehicle formulas for their typical uses.
Produced for more than 20 years, the blue motorcycle formula has been improved to better fit the needs of the rider providing more efficient heat transfer with freeze protection going down to -7°F.
Engine Ice’s Ice Water is a highperformance coolant concentrate that produces an instant glycol-free engine coolant that is a great alternative for racing applications.
Unlike some motorcycle riders, UTV/ATV customers are more likely to rack up miles and run time in cold weather, which is why Engine Ice adjusted its orange UTV/ATV formula to provide additional freeze protection, going down to -26°F. For the winter sports riders taking their sleds and other machines out in the extreme cold, the green snow/winter formula provides protection all the way down to -45°F.
While these ready-to-pour products are a great solution for the garage, shop, or trailer, some customers may prefer maximum cooling without any freeze protection. These customers will appreciate the adventure-ready convenience of Engine Ice’s Ice Water, a high-performance coolant concentrate. Simply mixing the contents of the pouch with 3-5 gallons of water produces an instant engine coolant with significantly improved wet transfer, reduced surface tension and better corrosion protection than water alone. As a whole, Ice Water’s benefits help move heat away from the engine quicker while protecting key engine components. Plus, since it is only a coolant and not an antifreeze, there is no glycol in the mix, making it a safe alternative for many racing organizations. ■

Playing it Cool Mesh Jackets for Summer Riding
Gearing up for a summer ride doesn’t have to be a sweaty, uncomfortable scenario. It’s possible to stay cool and keep a barrier between the skin and the street thanks to vented gear like ICON’s Upstate Mesh CE jacket and Mesh AF Leather jacket.
The Upstate Mesh CE jacket is one of those pieces of riding gear that manages to look like it isn’t one. At a glance, the styling of this jacket looks more like a casual shirt than a toughas-nails riding jacket. ICON combined rugged Iron Weave mesh with 400D polyester for the chassis, and 300D polyester reinforcements beneath the surface add another line of defense in the shoulders and elbows. There are also canvas overlays in strategic areas to provide extra abrasion resistance as well as a dose of style.
Iron Weave mesh has been featured in many apparel pieces from ICON and has become a staple in their warmer-weather riding gear. The material has proven to be the best combination of durability, weight and airflow, making it ideal for those hot days.
ICON’s Relaxed Fit styling adds to the casual look of the Upstate Mesh CE jacket. It might look laid back on the outside, but inside, this jacket is all business. There is a full set of D3O impact protectors in the elbows, shoulders and back. The Upstate Mesh CE jacket is available in grey, green or black, and all three feature reflective trim to improve a rider’s visibility.
For riders who want a motorcycle jacket that looks a little more traditional, the ICON Mesh AF Leather jacket leaves no doubt about its purpose. By blending leather, mesh and textile materials, this jacket has all the sportbike styling coupled with outstanding airflow, making it perfect for hot days.
The leather on the jacket is ICON’s Tracspec leather, measuring in at 1.2-1.4mm in thickness for premium quality and durability. While the leather is located in key impact zones, the rest of the chassis is comprised of Iron Weave mesh and 300D polyester.
Inside the Mesh AF Leather jacket are D3O T5 impact protectors to give the elbows, shoulders and back a low-profile but highly effective barrier against the outside world.
When it comes to color options for the Mesh AF Leather jacket, there’s black, white or Slayer, which is a black chassis with red badging. While the Upstate Mesh CE jacket is all about looking casual, the Mesh AF Leather jacket is about being ready for high-speed battle. It is designed with ICON’s Sport Fit, providing a comfortable cut for an aggressive riding stance. ■

Traction Equation
Tough and Versatile ATV/UTV Tires
There’s a saying that goes, “Prior planning prevents poor performance.” It’s a valid observation and certainly true when it comes to planning ATV and UTV adventures. Packing water, tools and fuel, and doing pre-trip maintenance are often on the pre-ride checklist. Now, with AMS Tires’ Blacktail series,
your customers can add “equip machine with capable equipment for rough terrain” to that list.
Among the many moving parts that make up a UTV’s handling and performance capabilities, tires are undoubtedly one of the most important. All the horsepower and suspension travel in the world is wasted without capable tires to connect it to the dirt, which is why AMS has developed its complete line of ATV/UTV tires, including the recent Blacktail series.
From loose dirt and mud to wooded trails and open desert, Blacktail tires from AMS are designed to deliver excellent traction in a wide variety of terrain and conditions, while also enhancing shock absorption. Traction is accomplished partially with a wide footprint design, increasing the surface area of the contact patch between the machine and the ground. Thick, deep lugs in an aggressive and robust tread pattern are the second part of the traction equation, helping the tires achieve the versatility to dig in and push forward in unpredictable terrain. These traction capabilities continue to the sidewall as well with shoulder lugs providing extra grip in ruts and in between rocks and tree roots.
Performance like this from a set of tires is key to both fun and function, but it’s not the only thing on customers’ minds. Durability is the other major factor weighed in tire choice decisions and it’s something AMS has built into the Blacktail line. The tires’ radial construction uses a natural rubber compound to shape a 25/32nds-inch tread depth for long-lasting tread life that will stand up to the abuse of off-road. Plus, Blacktail tires are designed to protect wheels, too, with an integrated rim guard molded into the design.
All in all, AMS has applied its extensive experience in powersports tires to create an advanced tire package with Blacktail, ensuring they’re capable of keeping up with today’s advanced ATVs and UTVs. Blacktail tires are available in 25-inch through 27-inch sizes with a six-ply carcass, and 28-inch through 32-inch sizes with an eight-ply carcass. Increased ply ratings in larger sizes help ensure the tires can perform within the necessary load ratings.
Whatever the machine your customers are rolling with, Blacktail tires are ready to get them up and over the obstacles ahead. ■

Engine Additives for Enhanced Performance More than Maintenance
Routine oil changes are an important part of motorcycle maintenance, but it’s really just doing the bare minimum. Riders who want to keep their bike in top form rely on additives that keep engines running cleanly and efficiently.
LIQUI MOLY offers a range of additives that are an easy way to keep bikes performing at their best, including the Motorbike Engine Flush, Motorbike 4T Bike Additive and Motorbike Speed Additive.
When it’s time for an oil change, the LIQUI MOLY Engine Flush should be added beforehand. Available in just the right size for a bike’s oil circuit, the flush will clean deposits
LIQUI MOLY Motorbike 4T Bike Additive should be added to a full fuel tank during routine service. This strong cleaner helps prevent deposits from forming in the fuel system. Adding a dose of the 4T Bike Additive does more than simply reduce residue and deposits, though. It also prevents carburetor icing, improves fuel consumption and reduces emissions.
After that, riders can add a dose of the LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Speed Additive every time they fill up the tank. This additive keeps the fuel system clean and performing at its peak. Additionally, the Motorbike Speed Additive will noticeably improve the throttle response, and the engine will run smoother.
throughout the engine. Just add the Engine Flush, let the engine idle for about 10 minutes, then drain the old oil. All of those loosened deposits and sludge will drain right out along with the oil. The Engine Flush helps restore engine performance and promotes longer engine life, and it is harmless for seals and gaskets.
Once that step has been completed, the oil circuit is clean and ready for fresh LIQUI MOLY oil. There are many specialty oil formulations available from LIQUI MOLY, including oils for high-performance bikes, vintage motorcycles and more. No matter what a customer is riding, there is a LIQUI MOLY oil for it.
For smaller-displacement motorcycles and scooters, LIQUI MOLY offers these 3 additives as Shooters. Ideal for fuel systems of 5-10 liters and an oil volume of up to 2 liters, Shooters eliminate the need for precise measuring, since each package is a perfectly sized single dose for these smaller engines. Just drop in the contents of the Shooter and go. ■

MAX X
It’s riding season, and now is an excellent opportunity for your customers to perform some routine maintenance and check essential parts. One of the most essential parts of a motorcycle is the drive chain. While not a glamorous item, the chain is an integral part of a motorcycle that does require regular maintenance. Your customers should routinely inspect their chain for any signs of wear, from less severe issues like dirt, debris and rust, to critical issues like pin rotation, missing or damaged seals and visible cracks. While minor warning signs can be addressed with proper cleaning and lubrication, the more severe and critical issues can cause a dangerous situation if the user continues to ride on the chain. RK recommends that the chain be replaced immediately. When a chain replacement is required, RK’s MAX series chains are an affordable performance solution. There are three versions of the MAX chain: MAX O, MAX X and MAX Z. All MAX chains series offer performance, while being economically priced.
When riders want to increase the wear life of their chain, MAX X combines performance and durability into an economically priced series of chains. Petersen in race one and Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz in race two. Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Cameron Beaubier couldn’t match his victory from race one at Road Atlanta, but did manage fourth- and third-place finishes despite the track heavily favoring the Yamahas.
After two rounds and four races, it’s Gagne at the top of the standings with his three wins in four races putting him 21 points clear of Beaubier. Scholtz is third, another 11 points behind and 14 points ahead of Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Josh Herrin. Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Richie Escalante is fifth after his seventh- and fourth-place finishes at Barber. There was a new wrinkle to the Supersport class at Barber with the first-ever “Extended” race, which featured a longer race and a mandatory pit stop – and it also paid double points since it was the only Supersport race of the weekend.
Pit stop or no pit stop, Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati’s Xavi Fores showed that at least for now the Supersport race is his and his alone as the Spaniard remained perfect with his third win of the season. Fores leads Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Stefano Mesa by 27 points after the three races with Squid Hunter Racing’s Josh Hayes third in the title chase, just a point ahead of Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Tyler Scott. The Supersport gang will be trying to stop Fores in the next round at Road America, June 2-4.
While Fores remained undefeated, Bad Boys Racing’s Avery Dreher saw his unbeaten streak of three races come to an end when he was topped by first-time winner Levi Badie, who became the first Belgian to win a MotoAmerica race, in the second of two Junior Cup races.
Disrupt Racing’s Hayden Gillim, meanwhile, did a great job of righting his ship after a miserable opening round at Road Atlanta. Gillim won both of the Steel Commander Stock 1000 races at Barber Motorsports Park to get himself back into championship contention.
The 2023 MotoAmerica Championship recently wrapped up its second round at Barber Motorsports Park with close racing throughout the six classes, headlined by the Medallia Superbike Championship round dominated by two-time defending class champion Jake Gagne.
Gagne won both races on his Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing YZF-R1, besting his teammate Cameron
Rocco Landers continued to fill in admirably for the injured Ben Gloddy on the Rodio Racing – Powered by Robem Engineering Aprilia RS 660 with the former REV’IT! Twins Cup Champion winning a third straight race. Landers’ teammate Gus Rodio had a handsome lead in the championship going into Alabama, but two crashes on the weekend left him one point behind leaving the Yellowhammer State.
Defending class champion Blake Davis took advantage of Rodio’s woes to take over the points lead by just one point over Rodio and Cycle Tech’s Hayden Schultz, who are tied in points, after three rounds (the Twins also raced at Daytona). ■

New 4-Stroke Oils Power, Cleanliness and Longevity with PEAC
Maxima Racing Oils is likely already a favorite chemical brand in your shop. With new formulations improving many aspects of Maxima’s 4T lubricants, riders have even more reason to fill their engines with Premium, Syn-Blend, ProPlus+ and Extra oils.
By implementing new base oils and updating the entire additive package, Maxima’s latest generation of 4-stroke oils provides improved power and acceleration, bolsters clutch performance, drastically improves engine cleanliness, and is more resistant to oxidative and thermal-breakdown.
All of these benefits are available in Maxima’s Premium mineral-based oil, Syn- Blend semi-synthetic oil, ProPlus+ full-synthetic oil, and Extra triple-ester full-synthetic oil. Maxima’s PEAC (Performance Enhancing Additive Chemistry) additive system is a hallmark of Maxima oils, and
Maxima’s latest generation of 4-stroke oils provides improved power and acceleration, bolsters clutch performance, improves engine cleanliness and is more resistant to oxidative and thermal-breakdown.
the package has been completely upgraded for these latest 4T lubricants.
In the wild world of chemistry, molecules can be assembled in a way that gives them a preference for certain materials. Maxima harnessed that trait, allowing PEAC to deliver optimized friction to different parts of the engine. For components like the transmission, crank and piston, Maxima tailored molecules to have a high affinity for steel and aluminum, but a low affinity for clutch friction material. This reduces drag for optimal engine power while maintaining necessary clutch friction for effective power transfer. Conversely, PEAC contains additives with a high affinity for clutch material to ensure the friction
plates are adequately protected and modulation remains consistent, even at extreme temperatures.
Another area of improvement for these new 4T oils is in cleanliness and long-term stability. Oxidation is the enemy of oil, causing breakdown that reduces lubrication and forms the precursors to unwanted deposits. For these new oils Maxima has upgraded to a more oxidatively stable base oil and also improved the chemistry of the potent dual-molecule antioxidant package. Reducing the oils’ vulnerability to oxidation improves durability for extended service intervals and also helps prevent the formation of sludge and deposits.
An additional, and significant step, to improve deposit control was a complete overhaul of the dispersant system, which are the components responsible for keeping contaminants from accumulating on engine surfaces by “dispersing” them throughout the oil. The new dispersants,
produced by a completely different and novel process, provide two times the cleaning action, drastically reducing engine deposits.
Maxima is excited to release these new oils, featuring high quality base oils, shear-stable viscosity modifiers, and Maxima’s exclusive PEAC system. With the new and improved Premium mineral-based oil, Syn-Blend semisynthetic oil, ProPlus+ full-synthetic oil, and Extra triple-ester full-synthetic oil, your customers’ machines will be better protected than ever before. ■

Organize and Conquer
New Accessories for Polaris Slingshots
From adrenaline pumping competition to relaxing rides under the sun, your customers ride simply because they enjoy it. It’s at the very heart of the love for powersports recreation.
A major part of that love for riding is the vast number of aftermarket products available to customize and modify those vehicles, especially those parts that deliver convenience, comfort and that intangible cool factor. Show Chrome knows this market well, and offers up a big lineup of parts and accessories that will help your customers personalize their rides.
With motorcycle customization roots dating back to 1985, Show Chrome applies its passion and first-hand experience to every accessory that exits its doors and lands on dealer shelves. A new model that really piqued Show Chrome’s
interest upon its release is the Polaris Slingshot. First launched for the 2015 model year, the Slingshot caught the attention of enthusiasts everywhere, practically creating its own three-wheeler category. Show Chrome recently launched its all-new Kaliber line of Slingshot accessories.
This comprehensive selection gives Slingshot owners a wide range of options designed to optimize the experience every time they get in their three-wheeled machine. The range offers high levels of comfort, convenience and protection.
Storage and organization can be a major challenge in vehicles that prioritize performance and fun over luxury. Alleviating that concern, the Kaliber line consists of driver and passenger side console organizers and drink holders, a glove box organizer, dual-pocket dashboard storage pouches and a rear center console organizer.
74 PARTS MAGAZINE ★ JULY 2023 PRODUCT SHOWCASE PARTS & ACCESSORIES
The Polaris Slingshot has developed a loyal following of enthusiasts, each looking for ways to customize their machines to make them just right. Show Chrome has them covered.
The Kaliber line of grab handle, e-brake handle and seatbelt buckle covers offer a slick, unified look. The range comes with accent stitching in red, blue or black.
The Kaliber driver and passenger console organizers simultaneously deliver a more comfortable environment along with organized storage for personal belongings and road trip necessities. A 1-inch-thick foam pad provides a leg rest, while a 12-inch-wide storage pouch and drink holder provide a secure place for everything from phones to tumblers.
In stock form, the Slingshot’s glove box possesses sufficient space but lacks organizational design features, leaving items to slide and fumble around. However, dropping in the Kaliber glove box organizer divides the space into a central storage compartment for owner’s documents and other necessities, a divided, open pocket for easy access to smaller items, a mesh pouch, plus a zippered pouch to keep import assets secure. Plus, the organizer’s hand-stitched construction provides a clean, finished look customers will appreciate.
Continuing the organization theme, the Kaliber dualpocket storage pouches and center console organizer add additional, zipper-protected storage options to the dashboard and rear center storage. Small personal items that need to remain secure, but easily accessible, can sit conveniently on the dashboard where there would otherwise be plain and bare plastic. For other important items that riders don’t want rolling around while they’re on the road,
the rear console organizer offers three different pockets to accommodate and protect a versatile range of items.
With storage and organization maximized, Show Chrome continued to turn its attention to comfort and convenience with the Kaliber line of driver and passenger armrest pads. Sold as a pair and easy to install, these armrest pads are robust solution designed to improve cruising comfort.
As is common with many multi-passenger powersports vehicles, the Slingshot comes standard with a passenger grab handle for added riding stability. Thankfully, Slingshot passengers won’t have to rely on grabbing a plain steel bar with the Kaliber grab handle cover, refining style and comfort with high-quality vinyl to grip onto and hand stitching that ties the sporty look together.
Customers who enjoy the refined look of the grab handle cover can accent it with Kaliber seatbelt buckle and e-brake handle covers, delivering the same high-quality material and construction.
Each one of these Kaliber accessories are hand-stitched in the USA at Show Chrome’s facility in Wisconsin using marine grade vinyl for optimal durability and fade protection. Your customers will appreciate that they can complement the color of their Slingshot with optional black, red or blue stitching for each accessory, effortlessly meshing looks of luxury and sport.
The list of options from Show Chrome for your Slingshot customers includes additional accessories like flag poles, axle nut covers, shifter boots, extended dipsticks, hose clamps, extended seat levers, master cylinder braces, and more.
Show Chrome’s expansive lineup also includes innovative products and exciting categories for Can-Am Ryker, Can-Am Spyder, Honda Gold Wing, and Polaris Slingshot and UTVs. ■

Introducing the Contour-X Race-Track Features, All-Day Comfort
Even the most well-designed helmet is unlikely to get worn if it’s not comfortable. That’s why Arai Helmet prioritizes both safety and comfort, creating premium helmets that integrate the latest in safety technology with interior shapes, materials and adjustments that ensure maximum enjoyment. The latest helmet to embrace those objectives is the Contour-X – a fullfeatured model designed for the modern street rider who wants race-derived performance as well as all-day comfort.
As with all Arai helmets, an incredibly round, strong, smooth shell serves as the foundation of protection. The outer shell increases strength while reducing weight, and is designed to glance off obstacles during a crash to help reduce and distribute impact forces.

In conjunction with exhaust ducts beneath the rear spoiler and the back of the helmet as well as additional, adjustable intake vents on the chin and top of the helmet, riders can tailor airflow to suit their needs. Other features of the new Contour-X include the VAS shield-pivot mechanism with a variable axis that allows the shield to open, close and seal accurately with a lower pivot point than the previous generation SAI shield. This allows for about 24mm of additional smooth shell for increased glancing-off performance. A dual-function lever releases both the side cover and shield pin for quick and simple shield removal, and a clear Pinlock insert is included with the helmet for your customer’s convenience.
Inside that fortress of a shell, a one-piece, multi-density EPS liner serves to absorb impact energy. With an intermediateoval interior shape, the Contour-X is poised to fit a wide range of head shapes and features a plush interior liner that’s removable and washable. Arai also offers cheek pads and liners in various thicknesses to allow your customers to fully customize the fit of their new Contour-X.

Overfenders and Lighting for UTVs
For a lot of UTV owners, keeping everything stock is simply not an option, and it’s certainly not as fun. Luckily, Moose Utility Division has a whole list of aftermarket options for UTVs. The company’s two newest products for UTVs include overfenders and a rear mount chase light bar.
Stock fenders are only going to do so much when it comes to keeping mud, dirt and other debris from flying up, especially during aggressive riding or when tackling extreme terrain. The Moose Utility Division overfenders flare out over the sides of the stock fenders to extend their reach. Overfenders like these are an absolute necessity when using oversize Moose wheels and tires. If the wheels and tires are bigger, then the fenders need to be bigger, too, in order to provide effective protection from mud and water.
These overfenders are made from black HMW haircell polyethylene. Measuring in at an extremely slim 1/8 of an inch thick, they are still sturdy thanks to the choice of material. The bend design adds to their durability and rigidity, too.
While the material and design are all about strength, the production method is all about providing a great fit and finish. The overfenders are cut with a CNC five-axis router, which ensures the edges are perfectly smooth. There’s no need to worry about any sharp edges or corners.
Moose Utility Division offers the overfenders as a complete set (two front/two rear) for most sport UTVs, and each set comes with all the mounting hardware required for installation.
For riders who want maximum visibility, the 24-inch rear mount UTV chase light bar is a great option for making a vehicle highly visible from the rear. The bright strobing amber LEDs and solid-red LEDs improve a vehicle’s rearfacing visibility even on days when it’s dusty or snowy.
Moose Utility Division chose the 24-inch length because it provides more flexibility when it comes to available
mounting points. In addition, this light bar can be mounted on almost any UTV or ATV model, making it a nearly universal fit. The lighted rocker switch that comes with the light bar controls the strobing pattern – there are three pattern options for the amber color – and it installs seamlessly into the dash for a clean look.
The light bar is also equipped with a memory, so once a strobe pattern has been selected, the light bar will remain on that setting even after powering off. The next time the vehicle is started up, the strobe will still be set on that same pattern. ■

Bicycle Basics Racks: An Essential E-Bike Accessory
Today, E-Bikes are incredibly popular, and the crossover into the powersports space is accelerating. So, just as a customer needs a trailer to haul sportbikes or a ramp to load a motocross machine, they’re going to need some special transport when they add an E-Bike to their garage. That’s why Parts Unlimited stocks a full assortment of car racks and carriers from both Thule and RockyMounts.
If your customers are new to the world of E-bikes, it’s important to let them know the proper way to transport their bikes. Strapping a bicycle down like a motorcycle isn’t wise, since tie-downs can potentially bend the handlebars or
haul bikes in the back of a truck or they need to stack a family’s worth of bicycles on the back of their SUV, Parts Unlimited has lots of options.
By utilizing the receiver on their car or truck, your customers can tap into a vast range of hitch carriers like those from RockyMounts. damage the fork. Likewise, laying the bike down in the bed of a truck is a bad idea since the derailleur hanger could get damaged and ruin a ride before it starts.
Then, there’s security. An unsecured, expensive E-Bike can quickly disappear from the back of a truck or car. Most bike racks offer locking systems, but conventional bicycle carriers aren’t rated for heavier E-Bikes, so it’s important to use a heavy-duty carrier.
For these reasons and more, new E-bike owners should really consider a quality, E-Bike specific bicycle rack. The variety of racks and transportation accessories from Thule and RockyMounts, two popular and well-respected brands in the bicycling world, offer some great solutions. Whether your customers want a quick, tool-free way to
Thule has some great hitch-mount carriers too, as well as options for truck beds. A popular option is Thule’s InstaGater Pro, which provides upright support for one bicycle and installs without tools. Need to haul the whole crew’s bikes? Over-the-tailgate solutions like the GateMate Pro, which is a well-engineered tailgate pad that can support up to six bikes, are a great option. Both the Insta-Gator Pro and GateMate Pro offer secure transportation at an attractive price.
E-Bikes are here to stay, and they’re a gateway to a long list of add-on sales that will help your customers have a better cycling experience and help your shop’s bottom line. ■

An Instantaneous, Independent Airbag System Impact Algorithms
The average blink of an eye takes only 190 milliseconds. During a crash, the Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Airbag System’s common sizes deploy in only 25 milliseconds – that’s about eight times faster than we blink.
That means the Tech-Air 5 is designed to be fully inflated before the rider ever experiences the impact. Not only does the Tech-Air 5 have to be quick to respond, but it also has to know when to respond. How can the TechAir 5 know when a crash is happening? It all comes down to the data.
Alpinestars has amassed an enormous amount of data, spanning 20 years, millions of miles of riding and thousands of crashes. This data has enabled Alpinestars to develop airbag system algorithms that collect and analyze data at lightning-fast speeds and accurately respond when an impact is detected.
The Tech-Air 5 does all of this without any external connections. There are no tethers or any physical sensors on the bike. Instead, Alpinestars uses a series of tri-axial sensors, including three accelerometers and three gyroscopes, that are housed within the TechAir 5 itself.
Once the Tech-Air 5 senses an impact, the airbag system deploys. According to Alpinestars, the amount of impact force transferred from the impact to the rider’s body is reduced by up to 95 percent thanks to this system. That’s the equivalent of gearing up with 18 Level 1 impact protectors, and it’s all available in a piece that is so thin and lightweight it easily fits underneath a jacket.
The airbag remains fully inflated for more than five seconds since most crashes last only a few seconds (even if it seems like a lot longer when you’re the one going through the experience). After deployment, the Tech-Air 5 can be professionally serviced and safely returned to use.
The state-of-the-art Tech-Air 5 was designed to comfortably fit underneath any properly fitting motorcycle jacket. There only needs to be a 1.6-inch circumference of free space around the rider’s torso to allow the Tech-Air 5 to fully inflate.
The Tech-Air 5 was designed to be not just lightweight and low-profile, but breathable, too. The chassis uses
mesh to ensure airflow, including a 3D mesh net that sits between the rider’s back and the built-in Nucleon KR-Cell style back protector. By offering the Tech-Air 5 in 8 different sizes, from XS to 4XL, Alpinestars has ensured that virtually every rider has access to this groundbreaking technology.
As with most pieces of technology these days, the Tech-Air 5 is Bluetooth enabled and has a mobile app. Riders can see how much battery life is left via the Alpinestars app, and they can enable one of two modes for the Tech-Air 5: STREET and RACE. Since street and track riding are very different, having two modes allows the Tech-Air 5 to run the appropriate algorithms for the riding environment. ■

An Exact Fit
Graded Pistons for an Optimal Rebuild
Wössner pistons are designed for high performance and reliability, using premium materials and manufacturing methods. However, as wonderful as a new Wössner piston is, if it’s not the exact right size for your customer’s cylinder bore, it won’t perform as intended. Luckily, Wössner offers most of its replacement off-road pistons in graded sizes, allowing your techs and customers to achieve optimal piston to cylinder clearance, even when the cylinder is worn.
When an engine is new, the bore size is exactly what’s listed in the specs, but as the miles and hours add up the bore will wear and its diameter will increase slightly. Installing a new, stock-size piston in a worn bore will yield too much clearance, which will result in rapid wear and possibly even catastrophic failure. That’s where Wössner’s graded pistons come in. They’re precisely ground in increments of 0.01mm (.0004˝), starting with A at standard bore diameter and expanding to B, C, and occasionally E and F for some models.
Wössner’s graded pistons come in precises sizes that offer an excellent fit even when a cylinder is worn.
To select the proper size piston, your customer’s cylinder will need to be measured in multiple locations to determine an average diameter. With that information, you can select the appropriate Wössner graded piston to provide optimal piston to cylinder clearance as listed in the bike’s service manual. With proper clearance, the engine will be more reliable and produce more power. ■

NO TIME WASTED CLEANING THE LUBE SPATTER FROM YOUR BIKE MORE POWER TO THE WHEEL MONEY SAVINGS ON LUBE, FUEL CONSUMPTION AND BIKE CLEANERS
Regina Chain released its lubrication-free HPE chain that offers long life and less mechanical drag for better fuel economy.
ince the beginning, motorcycle chains required periodic lubrication to protect the rollers and links against friction and wear. As motorcyclists know, chain lubrication is critical under all circumstances, from around-town commuting to severe conditions such as high-speed road racing.for direct contact between the chain’s coated hard-surface rollers and the motorcycle’s countershaft and drive sprockets. The permanent friction barrier also allows smoother, superior power transfer to the sprockets.
Additionally, HPE chains are environmentally friendly because no aerosol chemicals are released into the air. And, less mechanical drag offers improved fuel economy, with no lubricant residue being slung onto the motorcycle’s rear wheel. The result? A cleaner motorcycle. As an added aesthetic bonus, the innovative HPE chains have gold link plates that help give the motorcycle a cleaner and more refined appearance. ■

Be a Tire Pro Better Bead Breakers
After oil changes, changing out tubes and tires is one of the most common tasks for shops and home mechanics. And, when it comes to tire work – whether in the garage or out on the trail – it’s tough to beat the efficacy of Motion Pro’s BeadPro tire irons, available in a lightweight aluminum version as well as a longer, forged-steel option.
The first step in swapping a tube or tire is breaking the bead, and it can be a bear! Thankfully, the BeadPro is specifically designed to help your customers easily break the bead on most street and off-road tires. An innovative tongue-and-groove design at one end of the levers combine to create powerful spreading jaws that force the tire bead off of the rim. At the opposite end, round tirespoon profiles serve to bring the tire up and over the rim. The BeadPro’s ergonomic handles are easy to hold, and a cross-guard prevents your customer’s hands from sliding into the rim while installing the levers.
Motion Pro offers the BeadPro in a compact, 7075-T6 forged-aluminum version that weighs just 9 ounces for
the pair, making them ideal for tool packs. There’s also the longer, 16-inch Forged Steel version, which provide more leverage and are a good fit for heavy shop use. ■
» Both versions of the BeadPro are in stock and ready to ship. To learn more you can talk with your Parts rep, flip open the Tire & Service catalog, and click on www.parts-unlimited.com.

High-Performance Brake Rotors
Working with top race teams is about more than bragging rights. For Braking, it is a chance to further develop performance braking components. From Superbike to SuperSport competition, Braking riders have a long list of accomplishments in roadracing. All of that success and valuable feedback helps Braking give its customers confidence in products like the EPTA on-road rotors.
When street riders put EPTA on-road rotors on their motorcycle, they know they are getting the same product trusted by racers worldwide. They also know they can count on the rotors to provide consistent, precise braking, time after time.
Braking designed its EPTA rotors to efficiently dissipate heat, which gives the rotors a steady friction coefficient. The result is braking performance that stays consistent,
even during hard use. This makes EPTA on-road rotors ideal for roadracers and track day riders, but it is also a great choice for street riders who want to know how their brakes will behave in every situation.
“EPTA” stands for Enhanced Performance Torque Application. The design of these rotors includes a connection structure that allows a more controlled radial/axial movement. That means there is a better load transfer between the braking track and the carrier, which helps the disc temperature stay more consistent across the entire surface. Hot spots are eliminated, and the rotor’s performance remains stable. The rotors have a pin-free design, too, which eliminates potential pin deformation. ■

Aerosol Products for Better Performance
Powersports vehicles are designed to work hard and play hard, but they still need care and attention to continue performing at optimal levels. Sometimes, that care can be as simple as spraying on a lubricant or oil.
Bel-Ray offers aerosol products designed to keep machines running great, and all of them have the high quality that dealers and riders expect from the brand.
The 6-in-1 Lubricating Fluid is a multi-purpose spray that cleans, lubricates, protects components, displaces water, reduces friction and penetrates rust. If you were counting every item in that list, you know where the name “6-in-1” comes from. This spray can be safely used on electrical connections, vinyl, wood and paint.
Bel-Ray’s Blue Tac Chain Lube provides wear and corrosion protection to extend the life of both chains and sprockets. Designed not to fling off even at high speeds, this lube dries clear and reduces friction for all chains, including O-ring, X-ring and Z-ring styles.
When it comes to keeping air filters breathing easy, the Foam Filter Oil Spray has a distinct tack to capture small particles while allowing maximum airflow. This air filter spray is ideal for dusty, sandy conditions, and the formula is waterproof.
The Foam Filter Cleaner and Degreaser removes dirt, grease and other contaminants from air filters, helping them last longer and perform better. This multi-purpose spray is a great engine degreaser, too. ■

Bluetooth Systems for Arai Helmets Custom Communications
Communicating during a motorcycle ride can be tricky. Without a quality communication system, the on-bike audio can resemble Abbot and Costello’s famous “Who’s on first?” skit with lots of hand motions and shouted conversations.
Always looking to improve on-road communications, Sena Technologies has created specific hands-free intercom systems for two Arai Helmet models – the new Contour-X full-face helmet and Arai’s popular Ram X openface helmet. Sena is a manufacturer of quality hands-free Bluetooth and other forms of onboard communication.
Sena’s four-way, hands-free Bluetooth intercom systems have a range up to 1 mile, and riders can pair their smartphones for turn-by-turn GPS directions, music or for phone calls. With Sena’s convenient Audio Multitasking technology, riders can enjoy their helmet intercom conversations while listening to music, FM radio or GPS directions. The Sena Utility app also allows fingertip control of either device’s many functions.
Arai’s open-face Ram X helmet has its own proprietary sound system, too – Sena’s compact, yet powerful ACS RAM Bluetooth that allows hands-free communication between two riders, or a rider and passenger. Like the
Sena’s ACS10 Bluetooth communication system was designed specifically as a four-way intercom for the new Contour-X that connects four riders/passengers with one another. The system includes Sena’s ACS10 headset with HD speakers, microphone with three-button control, and a rechargeable lithium polymer battery as the power source.
The system is unique to the Contour-X helmet, meaning its components precisely fit specific recesses within the helmet’s interior. That means the ACS10 easily installs into the full-coverage helmet’s interior, offering a comfortable and natural fit for the wearer. Best of all, Sena’s HD speakers offer marked increase in bass and audio clarity for music, intercom conversation, phone calls and more. The speakers also include Sena’s Advanced Noise Control technology that filters out wind and white noise for crisp and clear audio feedback.
ACS10, the ACS RAM offers versatility for easy hands-free operation, this time for those who favor wearing openface helmets. A boom microphone easily picks up the speaker’s voice, and that’s complemented by compact, yet powerful speakers. Sena’s two-party intercom system is rated to send and receive up to 0.3 mile in open terrain for two riders or a rider and passenger.
The ACS RAM’s rechargeable lithium polymer battery lasts up to 12 hours of total talking time, with a full recharge in about 2 and a half hours. The entire assembly weighs just over 3 ounces, so it adds very little weight to an already lightweight, yet stylish, helmet. ■
