The Student Counseling Center supports the JU community by addressing students ’ psychological, emotional, social, ethical, and academic development through professional counseling, consultation, community engagement, and graduate student training.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Mental health counseling services for students including crisis intervention and wellness skills training. Community engagement and awareness around mental health and relationship wellness Consultation to parents, faculty, and staff for student mental health issues Graduate and post-graduate clinical training program for future mental health practitioners
KEY INITIATIVES
Provide comprehensive mental health services to students in a flexible format (virtual/in-person) to meet the changing COVID environment. Enhance social media, website, and outreach presence to support student wellness. Integrate care with campus health partners including the Student Health Center. Engage and collaborate with athletics to improve student athlete mental health care. Communicate to student clients a care plan with quick access to community resources for success.

LOOKING FORWARD
Offer in person and virtual appointments to meet student needs. Educate post-baccalaureate students and affiliated programs of 24/7 virtual access to mental health care for students residing in all 50 states. Return to cohort model of graduate training with graduate assistantship stipends to support trainees while learning and providing mental health services to our community. Be responsive to the trauma care needs of our students by providing highly effective and rapid interventions with Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Turn our community engagement communication from broad education regarding stress management to community and organizational strategies for implementation. From talking to doing as a community. Move to a counseling model where a clinician is embedded in athletics to meet the needs of our highly competitive Division I athletes.
