Individual or club fishing is available at Lake Pleasant by boat or shoreline. Various clubs and organizations schedule amateur to pro-national events each year. Spring and Summer are optimal times to fish at the lake. Spring is the best time for anglers with the water level being high. Largemouth bass are in the shallows. White bass and striped bass are also in season. Summer time heat pushes the fish into deeper water where it is cooler. Night fishing is one way to increase your odds for largemouth bass. White bass or stripers are active in deeper water. Catfish are most active at night in the coves.
Jason Blauvelt caught this 28-pound, 6.08-ounce, 42.12-inch striped bass on September 13, 2014. VisitPeoriaAZ.com

SPRING TRAINING
A HEAVY HITTER IN SPRING TRAINING With one of the country’s best facilities for Spring Training baseball – not to mention year-round Arizona Summer and Fall League games – and convenient access to just about every major sporting venue, Peoria is a sunny playground for sports enthusiasts. In addition to Spring Training baseball with the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, sports-minded visitors can enjoy regular season baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks, football with the Arizona Cardinals, 6
basketball with the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, hockey with the Arizona Coyotes and NASCAR racing at Phoenix International Raceway. With three public universities, including Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona, and a host of private colleges and universities like the Grand Canyon University, Arizona proves to be a favorite among college sports fans.

Padres SAN
SEATTLE
DIEGO
The San Diego Padres have trained in Arizona since their National League inception in 1969; from 1969 to 1993 the team trained in Yuma and established a worthy tradition there in its own right until moving to the new ballpark in Peoria in 1994. Peoria Sports Complex houses the San Diego Padres in a 60,846 square foot clubhouse, which was renovated in 2014 upon agreement of a new 20-year lease with the City of Peoria.* The new clubhouse layout includes 1,465 square feet of dining space; an updated performance center with 4,462 square feet of exercise and weight training space; a hydrotherapy facility with four plunge pools and one therapy pool. There are 393 lockers for the hundreds of minor and major league players, coaches, trainers and staff. Indeed, Peoria Sports Complex is much more than just a spring training home for the San Diego Padres. It is also the year-round player development home as well. Once the big league club has packed up and headed west for the summer, the Padres host extended spring training, which is then followed by the Arizona Rookie League, the fall instructional camp and the Arizona Fall League. Before you know it, fall turns to winter and just as most of the country is still hoping to thaw out from wintry weather, San Diego’s boys of summer return to Peoria for a new spring training. For these year-round operations, Peoria Sports Complex also features indoor and outdoor batting tunnels, six major-league-sized practice fields (four lighted) and three half-fields.
The Seattle Mariners have trained in Arizona since their American League inception in 1977. From 1977 to 1993 the team trained in Tempe, while in 1994 the team moved to the modern complex in Peoria. Peoria Sports Complex houses the Seattle Mariners in a 56,224 square foot clubhouse which was renovated in 2013 upon agreement of a new 20-year lease with the City of Peoria.* The new clubhouse layout includes 1,080 square feet of dining space for its big leaguers and 1,890 square feet for its minor leaguers; an updated performance center with 5,680 square feet of exercise and weight training space; a hydrotherapy facility with four plunge pools and one therapy pool and 414 lockers for the hundreds of minor and major league players, coaches, trainers and staff. Naturally, Peoria Sports Complex has much more than just the spring training season for the Seattle Mariners. It is also the player development facility on a year-round basis as well. The Mariners first begin with extended spring training, which is then followed by the Arizona Rookie League, the fall instructional camp and the Arizona Fall League. And, of course, it is where you’ll find players of all levels in the organization rehabbing injuries, learning new positions and developing their skills during numerous mini-camps throughout the year.
* The Clubhouses have joined an elite group of buildings that have earned a LEED Gold Level certification from the US Green Building Council for it sustainability construction and design. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification.
